Review Cafe Dbar - Coolangatta

This cafe is right on the board of NSW and Queensland. It's great cafe with excellent Coffee, very good juices and smoothies and the pastries were good too. Not only do they have all the things you would expect to have in a cafe but they also have great views and lots of art to look at too.

Amazing view! Came here with friends for breakfast at a Sunday morning. Second floor has an amazing ocean view. You order through a qr code, avoiding queues, which is amazing. Coffe came first, then food Everything well presented and delicious. I ordered a side of eggs and bacon and it wss enough to satisfy my hunger. Nice coffee taste. Staff was friendly and served us with a smile upon arrival and exit. I would recommend to everyone.

Great location and a really relaxing ambience. Staff are friendly but an order was missed, and when advised it wasn't put through but would only take 3 mins if we still wanted it, the 3 mins was more like 10 mins. But other than that hiccup, I liked the place, coffee was pretty good.

Nice little cafe with nice ambience. Great ocean view from upstairs. Gets very busy over public holidays and weekends. Good variety of breakfast. Generally the food was appetising. The Vietnamese Omelette was very flavourful - would recommend to try this. Wouldn’t recommend the big breakfast (paid for extra egg for big breakfast but it came with only two eggs and no mushrooms and we were told that it usually just comes with one egg and that they ran out of truffled mushroom which was supposed to be the best part of the big breakfast).Check your order twice on busy days.

Service wasn't that great, mushrooms on toast was dry and no flavour, maybe because it was the vegan option, but left a not so good taste in my mouth. Coffee was quite nice with almond milk. They have a few vegan option which is good. Nice view on top of the hill

SERVICE Friendly enough. Unsatisfactory wait of 18 minutes for a toasted sandwich. Asked at 13 minutes if they had forgotten it? Told to wait another 5 minutes. Charged 15% extra due to Public Holiday. Had drunk my coffee, by the time the sandwich appeared. A Marine Rescue staff member had ordered and was served their breakfast in the same period? VIEWS Spectacular on 2nd floor with Covid tracking. SANDWICH & COFFEE $20.60 Both were ok.

Great location by the sea to spot whales. Upstairs at this location gives the best views. Food was tasty and enjoyable. Quantity of food was good and left me feeling satisfied. Merlo wine with my lunch of flathead fish and pear salad was very enjoyable. This location is a regular stop for me to come and enjoy a coffee and magnificent fresh bake raspberry and chocolate muffin.

This cafe is located in an amazing spot opposite the border monument. Both downstairs and upstairs seating have a great atmosphere. The menu has a lot of variety and is fresh, but could be tastier and better value for the price. In any case, this is definitely a local highlight.

I see a Rainbow Baaaaay!

Rainbow Bay is riiiiiight at the very end of Gold Cost and it is quite a famous area all over the world! Yes, this little region is has a famous surf area called Snapper Rocks where every year the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro are held and many professional surfers come to have a little go 🤙🏄‍♀️

But here’s a little secret about this area. If you challenge yourself to head up and do a little hiking through the rocks, you will see a historical landmark, the Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse and the Queensland/New South Wales border! How cool is that! 👏🥳 yes, I did jump from one side to another like a little child, what did you expect? 😂
-
Aaaaaaaand on the very top of Point Danger (awesome name after all that hiking, I know 😂 very appropriate I would say) you find Cafe D’Bar!

They certainly are a favourite destination for the neighbourhood and must-see tourist attraction and they have a sister venue, BASKK at Kirra Point, where they usually have events.

The place has not only a downstairs area, with some seats both indoors and outside, but the building itself is a two floor venue where on the top floor you will find a panoramic dining room for a scenic yet chilled and casual dining experience with delicious breakfast and lunch options!

Seriously I want to try the whole menu! And honestly, no matter how beautiful the whole are is, Cafe D’Bar is one of those places that I could STAY 👏 ALL 👏 DAY! This place is like a daydream and has THE BEST acai tasting bowl I’ve tried in the area! 👏

Here’s what we had

- Acai Bowl - available all day, it is like I said one of the best tasting acai bowls I have ever had! You can see that they use REAL acai and not just ice blended with a little of acai and this was a 10/10 bowl! The consistency was just right, taste was outstanding and mouthwatering and the portion was ABSOLUTELY fantastic. The presentation of the whole bowl is also beautiful and they try quite hard to make you impressed, even cutting the strawberries in a special shape! As a friendly recommendation I would not hide/cover them with the other topping of the bowl and actually make them stand out in the bowl! People would definitely find it even more appealing! The choice of toppings was outstanding and very appropriate for the usual and classic acai bowl - banana, strawberries and kiwi - and I really loved the passionfruit touch! They also use a granola that is quite balanced in terms of sweetness and crunchiness and I was completely in love with it. Portion was just right again I would 100% recommend. This bowl is available ALL DAY btw!

- BEC - my friend had a Bacon, Egg & Cheese Roll which looked SO tempting and delicious! The size was great and the bread was moist and appropriately fluffy. It came with good volume taken by melted cheese and 2 eggs on top, followed by a good portion of bacon and a slice of tomato and lettuce on the bottom. It was paired with curly fries of great size again and ideally crunchy with that necessary and outstanding touch of pinched salt. The whole meal looked incredible like I said and my friend loved it.

- Bananarama - a smoothie of banana, cinnamon, greek yoghurt, chia seeds and honey that my friend enjoyed and I wished they actually had it as allergen friendly too for me to try. Looked good in aesthetics and consistency was just perfect.

On a separate note, I was slightly disappointed with the fact that their social media account didn’t even notice my pictures and no signs of appreciation for the shout out I actually did for them, as I utterly loved my experience. I think that from an objective perspective, these days, it’s quite important to actually also have a strong social media and engage with other accounts out there, especially if people are saying good things about them.

I understand there are other priorities from a business point of view, but I also believe that a good social media with proper feedback (or any feedback!) to costumers would make it more likely to revisit. Because let’s face it, with so much competition these days, if you don’t stand out or give any attention to the people that actually genuinely support you, why would they come back?

Either way, I just see it as something polite to do because as I have said, I would absolutely love to come again and try other meals and even consider visiting their other sister venue BASKK at Kirra Point.

A good little spot! Açai bowl and coffee were great, but the baked goods we tried that day could be better. Both a little undercooked/ muffin was quite doughy from the fresh strawberries baked in it. Other meals coming out looked good!

I called ahead to book a table but was notified that it’s walk ins only. We were able to be seated as a group for what was a busy morning. Our food came out timely and our waitress was friendly.
Liv (nourishinglively)
This cute little cafe located right on the peak of a hill overlooking Coolangatta is the perfect stop for a delicious breakfast or coffee. Staying close by we frequented Cafe D’bar for a coffee on our walks but stayed for breakfast one morning and weren’t disappointed. We both ordered the açai bowls and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity for the price! For a very reasonable $16 you get a thick açai bowl topped with delicious fruits, granola and grains. The only thing I would say that is missing is peanut butter, but that’s completely personal choice. There is also a really cute homewares & clothing shop directly beside the cafe which is a must visit !

Had a very late lunch here on New Year’s Day. Sat inside yet outside at one of the long tables under the greenery on a hot day enjoying the cool breeze. Super relaxing atmosphere. Excellent attentive and efficient service. Food has healthy or naughty options but even the naughty has a freshness to it that makes it feel lighter. Overall really great experience in a beautiful location.

I had a great meal with family at Cafe D’bar over the weekend. Staff were friendly, the atmosphere and view great and not to mention the food was delicious. I ordered the avocado Mexican salsa and a Summer Dayz juice, the salsa was very fresh and filling, as the juice. I would order both again! My boyfriend ordered the fish of the day (snapper) and and loved the meal. The only thing to not is that the cafe can be quite squeezy, so wheelchair access would require staff assistance.
Anson
BEST OCEAN VIEW!!! Perhaps slightly overpriced but great food nonetheless. I got the eggs benny while my boyfriend got the full breakfast special. This place is usually packed and very busy so it may be difficult to grab a waiter’s attention. Yet the view, fresh breeze and atmosphere makes up for when service becomes a little slow!
Catdog
Beautiful spot on top of the hill. Super cute, open and airy feel to the cafe. The food was delicious and I can see why the place is so busy on the weekend. Salmon gravalax was yum as was the pork belly pesto egg special and the bircher muesli. Nice stuff in the gallery next door too. Would recommend!
Mon Bon
Everything was great with our meal, ordered lime milkshake, almond crumbed flathead tails and the chicken burger- couldn’t fault anything! The flathead meal with rocket salad was delicious would recommend!

Really great service and friendly staff,

Awesome location with the perfect vibe, really captures the spirit of D’bar

I had the eggs benny with ham, the house made holindase with perfectly fluffy. Amazingly presented dish, highly recommend checking them out

Check out our Instagram for more reviews of your favourite local spots

instagram.com./tastyreviewz

9/10

TL;DR: Location is one of the kings here, but what also helps to rule this place is a good selection of items during any time of day - and that they are inventive and got the eye for quality the whole way through. With a good view of the ocean that is hard to beat for sheer ambiance alone, and while it is not perfect with the service and set up, they do a lot better than average, making Cafe D'Bar another good hotspot near the border.

If you cross the road from this place, you are going to be interstate. That is the best way to start off selling and describing Cafe D'Bar, since how many places are able to bank on that novel aspect followed up by using it well beyond the novelty of it all? Location, location, location often is a good meal ticket for somewhere, and from there it is about delivering on the advantages and getting people to want to come there - good food is always tantamount, but with such a great view of the ocean going a step beyond is exactly what they are doing here.

It was the week after Father's Day, and one the weekend I had found myself down the coast for about 24 hours all-round, staying the night at my parent's apartment. The week beforehand my parents were overseas in Thailand, so there was not really a lot that could be done outside of giving a phone call through WhatsApp to wish him a happy Father's day, ergo from that time I knew I had to take him out for either a lunch or breakfast during my visit there (the mum in tow as well, just to get that out there). During the evening beforehand, and part of the morning, it was onto various websites in searching up the options close by. A few were left that had yet to be tapped into, and after the shortlist got whittled down this was one of the choices left - and obviously was the finalist.

The whole premises is one big beach house which has been fitted out nicely, with a homely look in the design out the front, and moving on into the back, it becomes an art gallery for those interested. With the design of the house, with heaps of glass louvers around the perimeter that can be adjusted according to the weather and will still allow clients to have a great view of the horizon. It is like they knew this house was to be designed for the cafe years upon years ago.

Service here is pretty good overall, the kind of standard good that is come to be expected. In considering the pace, for a weekend breakfast it was pretty fast considering the laid-back sort of pace and that is in spite of how packed out the entire premises were. The structure of ordering is that they will come to you to get the orders and bring it to the table, whereas it is up to the counter to go and pay for the bill at the end. They are relatively friendly when they have a few minutes, it is apparent how much they take to kids being there, and the motion is constantly on. They have big shoes to fill, and a whole lot of clientele, and the efforts taken to meet all that is most certainly apparent.

One of the signs that a place is going to be good is the breakfast menu, especially when the selection on the menu is on that deviates away from the normal selection and starts to be a bit more inventive. Surprisingly so, the breakfast menu is fairly modest overall and has a few different sections - there are a few sections which are dedicated to options that are on the lighter side, two of them being different degrees of healthy, and the starting one that is essentially for more basic items along with another that is the basics. After that, the big, hot items arrive which combine a variation of twists on favourites, along with a big breakfast that is bound to please the biggest carnivore in town.

When it gets to lunch time, it doesn't pull back like is often apparent. When it comes to then, the sections are all suited to differing levels of appetites. That begins with a range of bar snacks, followed up by snacks that are slightly more substantial including tasting plates and accompaniments to bread. For something a lot meatier, the next lot include burgers and salads, then it gets onto their signature items. These are a tad pricier than the other items, and are presented in a similar way to somewhere aspiring to be Michelin-level (or at least some level of reputation). And without any doubt, there will be seafood on the menu with it being near the ocean and whatnot. To finish it all of with sweets, just look into the cabinet and fridge to see what they have got.

Then we get onto the range of drinks on offer. Regardless of who you are, there is something that is bound to let you wet your beak here - even if it is just water, there is a generous selection beyond that. Aside from the tea and coffee that is often here - always the drawcard for me if not obvious by now - the other big signature selection has got to be their range of Australian wines. It does not stop there either, with also a range of cocktails, beers, infused vodkas, ciders and spirits. That is only for those wanting something hard, but if it is something non-alcoholic that you seek, there is more to here than the aforementioned tea and coffee. That is in the form of juices, smoothies which re both dairy and non-dairy, and some classic milkshakes. This is what an Australian menu is all about.

Before going onto this review, there had been a visit here beforehand some months back to get a coffee and cake. Albeit that was pretty good from what I can remember, at the time I knew that reading the menu that it was not going to get the full essence of the place and that Cafe D'Bar was worthy of a more full review. The muffin was soft and moreish, plenty big and full of bits of chocolate. This was good for one, or to share between many, and indicated that they already had a high level of quality to contend with. So already there was enough of a decent reputation in which was therefore proven and then improved upon.

That was said because this time around, the breakfast was one filling sucker that even my parents were impressed to a good extent. Going inside, like it was said before hand it was quite packed but that did not mean that there were no tables; people got out of here efficiently enough knowingly and before long all three of us were seated and getting grub.

First things first, it was time to get the coffees. This is a completely new blend of coffee to me, so off the bat there is not a defined consensus. The blend is called "But First Coffee" which already is a winner in my book from the name alone; after taking a sip of the cold brew it readily becomes a good contender for a local favourite. The flavour of the coffee was a milder one, a little like a fruit-infused honey in many says - not as sweet nor as sticky mind you, but something about it had that aroma to it. Also, as per normal with cold brew it as not strong at first sip, but the jolt and alertness creep up slowly. Add onto that, an irresistible chilled temperature and it makes for a good deviation from the norm.

Getting onto the major meals, between the three of us there two unique order and avocado on toast. I had zucchini fritters, which were served with spinach, haloumi cheese, caramlised onions, shaved zucchini and a finish of both garlic and olive oil. On the side was the option to get some bacon, and you can bet that that was ordered - and crispy as well. The good news is that they delivered on that last aspect, and no bad news is to follow. The fritters were tender and delicious, usually a bit subtle in flavour there were distinct notes with the distinct taste of garlic and texture of olive oil. The spinach, onion, and zucchini all added a fresh twist to the meal, plus haloumi cheese is always a good touch to any breakfast - especially when it is as well cooked as it was right here.

My dad went for the omelet, mixed in with wok-seared Asian vegetables and a side of tempura enoki mushrooms. Mixed into the mix was also ketjap manis, plenty of chili, and coriander. The omelet was lithe in texture, and smooth as silk because of how well beaten the eggs were. Much of the delicious flavour came from the Asian ingredients, and their condiments which created a flavour profile that was slightly spicy, but also somewhat sweet in parts, and every bite was distinctive in some unique degree. Also, I am a big sucker for the tempura cooking, and a bite of that tempura mushroom was simply delicious.

I also got a bite of the avocado on toast, and it was fine. The toast was sourdough, and had a firm texture, the avocado was creamy, and the cherry tomatoes were sweet. It does it for some people, not really me though.

At first I was going to leave it at that for the meal, and not get another coffee but with the leisurely pace of the place, and that one of my parents had ordered a coffee I decided to join in. This time around, it was the usual order of a doppio that I had, and it was pretty good. The shot was well extracted, it was nice and hot when it came out, plus it is probably more of a mid-strength coffee than anything. What a way to bookend the meal.

Cafe D'Bar is a really solid place that manages to utilise the location aspect really well for once, getting the atmosphere right, and being able to treat the patrons to both a great view of the ocean, and good food that is of a high quality. It elevates what would often be a serviceable place into somewhere which is punching well above its own weight, with much of that coming from the vibe and how they have utilised the unique position with it being the first or last stop across inter-state the border; it could have just rested on that unique characteristic, but it decides to go on its own independent merits.

Prime Location, poorly managed.
Food was good enough but customer service let us down. Upon arrival around quarter to 11 we asked for a table of 6 and found out breaky finished at 11 (lunch didn't start til 11:30 (later changed to quarter to 12 by the staff) when we asked if we could order at 11:30 they told us they had the right to refuse orders in busy periods. We were offered only the bar snacks until 11:45 (literally olives and nuts and bruschetta) and after ordering we waited 30-40 minutes for our meal. Has a lot of potential just needs a few tweaks with customer service and management.

Fabulous location on top of the hill at Point Danger, with beautiful views, including of whales playing out at sea.
We sat on the second story to make the most of the views.
The menu was great and varied. My eggs benny was excellent, perfectly poached eggs and beautiful homemade sauce. Coffees and juices were excellent too.
Service was good and they left us be to linger before clearing our table.
It can get very busy here but we were lucky to enjoy a quiet time.

The dishes I've ordered here (Acai Bowl & Dragon Fruit Yoghurt & Granola) were both worth 4 star, beautiful presentation and tastes great. However, unfortunately Dbar is lacking in efficient service which effected the overall rating. My breakfast arrive 20-25 minutes before my friends did, which is not ideal. Upon my second visit a month later it was Déjà vu and my friends meal came out 10-15 minutes after mine and there eggs, bacon and grilled tomato (literally everything on their plate) was cold and poorly presented!!! So disappointed in this as I have enjoyed all of my meals here so much but the service is just too lacking and my friends haven't enjoyed their meals.

Though here are not many places on the Gold Coast where you can sit and look out over an amazing view while watching whales frolic out to sea.

This place was so nice they had such a good location on top of the hill / esplanade walk. The service was heaps friendly and food was amazing, everyone enjoyed, wish I could go back for more

I flew in on the red eye to Gold Coast and decided to drive along the coast to find a cafe for breakfast. This cafe is in a great location along the coast with great views. The cafe interior is modern with a great feel. Service was good and the food came out promptly too while it was quite busy.

Great coffee and food would highly recommend to come here if your visiting the GC.
My fd order the Asian breakky as we are Asian and she said it's very spicy. If you want to try the Asian way, u must take with the spicy as well!

I ordered the Hot breakfast and the scramble eggs were amazing! The sourdough was burned. Suggest to try other bread.

Amazing view and location, a little bit pricy.
Thedeanborecki
Probably my favorite cafe on the gold coast strictly based on the quality! The thickshakes and chips are to die for. The prices are cafe reasonable and the location is perfect, if you live around or are up in the area, you cant go anywhere else
Wolalajam
Bad customer service, sat down for 10mins no one took our orders then when we ask the waiter they told us to go to the counter. Food looked fancy on the menu but came out very average, the breakfast champion is just a very average big breaky
Claire
Went here on the Easter long weekend and was impressed with how the staff managed the crowds. We happily paid $55 (including surcharge) for a seafood platter. The milkshakes and fruit smoothies were great. We were really impressed when the seafood platter came out! Not only did it have delicious seafood and crispy chips, it also had refreshing salad and cut up pieces of fruit. We devoured the lot except for the prawns, which had a strange taste to them. It was great to be able to stroll through the onsite gallery and shop afterwards too.

Great local eatery.
Food is always fresh and presented well.
Great selection of meals & drinks.
Friendly staff always accommodate menu variations.
Mostly always busy after 9am.
GF, V, & O options.
Always find the counter staff friendly and service quick. Food and coffee is always worth coming here for. Watching whales and surfers while eating eggs bene is probably the best sat art to the day I could imagine.
The eggs bene is excellent. The coffee is consistently good. The juice is really good (just a little too full of ice but that's being really picky!)

•2/5 •Poor/unorganised serv.... •2/5
•Poor/unorganised service (lost my order on two seperate occasions)
•Excellent Atmosphere and location.
•Generous portion sizes and excellent coffee.
•Unfortunately service is a let down to an otherwise excellent establishment. Won't be returning after repeated poor service.

Not for food. Great position and nice feel about the place. You can sit out at a bench on the footpath or find a table inside. We had the seafood platter for two at $44. the 4 prawns were cooked fine, but that was it. There was 'calamari' (more likely cuttlefish) that was thick and blubbery (too thick unless it was a giant squid). The main part of the dish, crumbed fillets, were obviously overcooked as they were too dark and brittle. You could snap them in two. The fish inside was totally dried out. A real pity, as it's not hard to cook fish fillets. Maybe they were re-heated from the day before.

So enjoy the ambience, take in the view, maybe have a drink. But don't touch the food.
FineDiner
Fantastic position. Food was quite nice. Service was very poor. The girls behind the counter were very unfriendly, quite rude at times & I noticed they were very impatient with tourist(non-English speaking) customers. Something they definitely need to work on. Has good potential.
Enrico Janson Resuta
Drove all the way from Brisbane to get there before 11 so I could order their Vietnamese pancakes to find out they had stopped serving breakfast 15 mins before they advertise they would stop - which is 11... I am incredibly disappointed about this. You sell overpriced food with no table service and you're a cafe that can't handle your expected capacity.
Shem Irwin
Wow! Just rang the Cafe to find out what the surcharge was for a Public Holiday before I went there and the staff member refused to tell me. Safe to say I won't be going there.
Paul Bolton
The best breakfast on the Gold Coast. The rest of their meals are pretty amazing too. Must try the barra burger.

I took some overseas friends up to point danger last week and unfortunately decided to go to lunch at Cafe Dbar as well. Big mistake! Ordered a range of food from salads to fish and linguini. So very overpriced especially to be told we had to walk downstairs to order. The place just does not make sense. Every staff member i see is rushed (when the cafe wasn't busy), dirty looking, and just grumpy. As a former hospitality worker I know how hard the job can be and it's made unbearable when you hate the people you work for which is why I assume every girl I spoke to had massive amounts of attitude for example customer service in this joint when I asked a young blonde girl for water - she sighed and pointed at the tepid water bottles across the room saying 'help yourself'... Ok ..so I go over to the stand and each bottle is either empty or half full with a dirty chux thrown over the cutlery. The whole place screams 'we don't care' from the staff to the food. Don't go to this place... It's dirty and if it wasn't for the view they would have been out of business long ago! It was just a horrible experience and I really hope someone else takes over to show them how it's done! Blah!
Luke
Overpriced for a start and the food was very ordinary. I also got a takeaway muffin for the mrs and it was stale!
I also found the staff rude and unhelpful, I don't know if it's a family run business or not? But it was like none of the girls working could be bothered? They also had attitude. I think they are more interested in tourist dollars, people that come and go and never come back
Julie Anderson
Horrible cafe food with snobby young girls who basically threw our meals at us before telling us that they don't have any glasses for water?
Vdz_and_klr
Wraps were horrible.. Bitter lettuce and rocket, bland chicken and lamb for the two wraps we ordered and for such exorbitant prices. If it wasn't for the view no-one would eat there,
Jack
Disappointed with my visit today so much so I won't be back. Waited 40 min for a wrap and Duck Turkish for lunch while the two couples either side of us who ordered after us received their meals before us. When the order arrived it was wrong and I had to wait a further 17min, Only for it to be quite tasteless and the duck fairly invisible. We were offered a coffee for the inconvenience but I won't be back. Too many great cafés on the Gold Coast to bother with this one.
John
The only thing good I can say about this place is the views.
The food is below average and very overpriced. The chicken Caesar was awful. The chicken was dry and I couldn't even tell what sort of lettuce was in it. Also had to search for the dressing None of the waitresses smile. Such a shame because it's in the ideal position. I won't be rushing back here.
FiFYI
Overpriced!. Ordered 2 iced coffees which cost $16!!! For that price I'd expect full table service but, no, this is an order and pay at counter establishment. We fetched our own bottle of water...which was tepid (on a hot day). No glasses, just flimsy plastic cups. We decided not to eat there when we saw the price of a hamburger was $21!!! For these prices, I'd expect better service.
Ben
Ordered takeaway coffee and a milkshake, 5 min wait on the coffee & 20 mins on the shake... By which time the coffee was cold
Jinxy
I'm confused, is there table service or not? After five minutes of being ignored, I asked if we could take a seat, and then was pointed to a table. The staff kept on cleaning cutlery and placing settings all the while ignoring us. And the place was nearly empty! I went to the counter and got some menus myself before being rudely told to 'order at the front'. The food was ok, far too expensive for the portions however. I find $25 for eggs on toast and a banana smoothie rather excessive.
Jayde
What's not to love about this place!?! Great view and atmosphere and food and coffee!! Their smashed avocado on rye is an essential part of my Coast weekend away!!
George P
OMG HOW BAD IS THIS PLACE. Ok the positives first, the view and atmosphere great, size of the servings HUGE. Ordered two Cajun Wraps, Eye Fillet Burger and kids Fish & Chips. The Burger and Fish and Chips was as cold as the six pack I have in the fridge. Every plate was slapped in front of us, the eftpos machine was literally thrown in front of us to pay. Food cold and staff the most arrogant I've ever experienced. DON'T WASTE UR TIME
Kristy Stott
The menu sounds delicious, but when the food arrived it was oily overcooked and the prawns old-- this was a $28 dish. The salad was oily and not enough lettuce, totally overpowered with bacon and the bread was hard. Extremely dissatisfied
Rick
Average. Dined here very recently for a 21st birthday. The atmosphere and views were very pleasent. Waited half an hour from being seated to be served. Food was nice yet we recieved meals at different times, not good for dining. The staff are very rude and we felt very put out
Allyvia Oberman
Rude staff, but decent food. The views are great, and when the food eventually comes out - its good too! But the staff lack in customer service - which kind of puts you off all together
Jodi
Best brekky and coffee in coolangatta!! View is really nice and staff very friendly ... Lots on menu to choose from
Daniel
Came here for lunch with friends and their kids. The food on the menu sounded good but were poorly executed. The smoke salmon wrap had very little salmon and overall flavourless (it was basically a bean shoot & cucumber wrap). The fish burger was tasty but on the "unnecessarily too oily" side. The seafood melt just didn't look too appetising and it was exactly that. The kid's fish & chips was done well except for the sauce - the only description I can think of is a good tartar sauce mixed with equal portion of garlic juice and a dash of dish washing liquid. All four of us adults were of the opinion that the sauce was not eatable and definitely should not be served as part of a kid's meal
Tom
We ate there this morning with a group if 4 adults. Over all the quality was average, not the worst I've had but pretty poor quality and value. Two things stood out 1. They charge $4 for one additional poached egg. Bit pricy! 2. Our coffees came 10 minutes after we have finished eating out food as they kept making the take away coffees first. Had to ask twice and then go to the counter to eventually get them. Pretty poor service.

Posted in Places by thebluemacaron Another warm, cloudless Saturday morning on the coast meant a perfect opportunity for brunch, so Red Macaron, Banana, Dumpling, Sherbet and I made our way south. Nested above the waters of Coolangatta, overlooking the dramatic shoreline which connects to Burleigh and Surfers Paradise, is Cafe D’Bar. Having just missed the service time for breakfast, we meticulously browsed the lunch menu. After ordering, we seated ourselves on the ground floor in an open dining area relishing the warm sea air and cobalt sky. Drinks consisted of a colourful quartet: Green Power (apple, pear, spinach, broccoli, cucumber, mint), Summer Surprise (strawberry, rockmelon, mango, orange, apple, watermelon, pineapple, mint), Strawberry (strawberry, watermelon, apple, mint) and Mango Delight (mango and apple). D’Bar’s setting is a 1925 old Queenslander, its décor heavily referencing the surfing culture and its history on the southern end of the coast. With its shady verandah and surfing murals, there’s an iconic wholesome Queensland feel to the restaurant, which is a winner for locals and tourists alike. Because of its size, split levels and diverse food and beverage menu, D’Bar has something for everyone.
