One of the best Indian restaurants in Sydney. The ambience, the staff, the food (oh!! The food 😍😍) are mind blowing...
Especially love their garlic naan, chicken Tikka and prawns Balchao ( I like it hot).
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a taste of what Indian food is.
The best Indian food in Sydney. Amazing dosai, delicious curries, and fantastic service. Get the banquet, you won't regret it!
Pros: place is usually packed yet the service is good. Food is tasty. Ordered dosa. Satisfied with the taste !
Cons: none
Overall: will visit again!
This has gotta be my favourite Indian restaurant in the north shore. Chilli 🌶 crab 🦀 dish was divine. Their garlic cheesy naan bread is to die for! Lamb cutlets - amazing. Butter chicken was a little on the sweet side but delicious anyway. Their dosas are just amazing especially the beef 🥩 one! We ordered a trio of desserts also which were perhaps not my cup of tea but the mango dessert on there was amazing! Fantastic service also. Will definitely be back!
Great menu with clearly labelled vegan options. The dosa in particular was a standout and can be ordered dairy free. The potato filling was incredible and the dosa was light and flakey. The coconut sauce went amazingly with it. Would come back and get the dosa alone it was that good. The okra was also another great dish but hard to go past the dosa!! Must try when dining here.
Who knew Southern Indian food was so HEALTHY! Yep, my bad, I was clueless. After trying several of the other "go-to" Indian hot spots around town we still hadn't found one that hit the G spot. But if you enjoy Isaan (Northern) Thai food for its emphasis on gut-healthy fermented and pickled dishes then you are going to love Malabar. With a great range of healthy and MSG-free curries and dosas, not too sweet either which is great so the kids don't go home in a sugar-spin, we love this place now. No need to be fearful of the old-school penguin suit service either, they staff are always polished but warm and friendly and the dishes come out briskly. Love you guys and gals! x
Malabar is a nice South Indian restaurant in Crows Nest and I'd say one of the authentic ones in Sydney. Their entrees and mains are equally good. My favorites are mini masala dosa, garlic pepper rasam, baby eggplant and potato and dhal. They have a decent space upstairs suitable for a small gathering.
Mala bar is a good place to have indian food and enjoy. The place is simple and has paintings of india on the walls and a small statue of "ganapati" who is an indian god.
We tried the mango lassi, bangalore dosa, lamb chops, spinach chaat and chicken chettinad.
Mango lassi-It is nice and refreshing and has a nice flavour of mango and overall a balanced taste.
Bangalore dosa-The dosa was very nice and crisp. The filling had potatoes and dal and had the perfect amount of spice and flavour. The potatoes were well cooked and dal added a twist to the dosa.I highly reccomend it to all:D
Lamb chops-It had a nice spicy flavour but I am not a lamb eater so it wasn't my favourite.
Spianch chaat-It was a very nice and refreshing starter. The spinach was nice and crisp and the topping had a balanced flavour of spice, sweet and sour.It is perfect:D
Chicken chettinad-The chicken is well cooked and has a nice and spicy gravy. It has a hint of tamarid and has a perfect amount of spice and flavour and the texture is perfect. It is another reccomendation:D
Overall a nice place to go for indian food:D
With Ajay Kapoor and Payal Kapoor
Fantastic place! Best Indian food, I have had here. Dosa & Goan Curry were superb! Highly recommended. I have been there twice and it was amazing both of the times.
The more spicier version meant for Indian palates out of the two Malabars. The other milder one is in darlinghurst. I love this one which has better food though service could be better like their other branch.
Great crispy dosa and very flavoursome samosas and tikka. My only complaint is the the accompaniments to the dosa could have been better. I'd go back for the dosa and probably give some of the curries a shot next time too.
The food was nice, clean southern Indian food. Service was quick and professional.
I ordered the Mini dosa which I was happy with and also the samosas and chicken tikka for the entree. The food was that nice I ordered Dhal as my lunch for the next day which was the best Dahl I've ever had (I have had a lot!) we will go back for sure.
