Great oasis in the middle of the Gibb River Road.
Be careful on weekends, shop closes at 1pm both Saturday and Sunday.
Great coffee and the best Sausage Rolls
MT Barnett Roadhouse on the Gibb river road is a welcoming break from the corrugations and offers good unpowered camping, toilets showers and a refreshing swimming in the Manning river, good walking trail to the Manning gorge with spectacular views.
I notice a lot of people complaining about how rude the staff were. When we were there in May 2021 at the start of the peak season, there was a delightful couple from Melbourne with a little kid who lay under the shelving and made parrot noises until we spotted where they were coming from! The camp hosts were another lovely family from Queensland with young kids. After chatting to quite a few seasonal workers up here, it’s evident that the managers and hospitality staff change regularly and move around as a way of seeing Australia . Most are from eastern states . If you are polite and friendly it’s worth getting to know them, as they have inside knowledge about local attractions and goings on. Having said that, the camping was pricy but as it was pre July school holiday madness, we didn’t mind as we almost had the place to ourselves and absolutely loved manning gorge and the swimming holes.
