Amazing food!! Highly recommend you eat here (book first maybe?). We had the schnitzel and a sample plate of lots of yummy Hungarian treats (goulash, latke with cevapcici, amazing beetroot dip, mushrooms with goat cheese and more). Also their desserts are yum!

And just like that, I have a new favourite. Where do I start ? Try the chicken soup, the shots, the spinach or mushroom sauce, the mushroom & cheese stuffed Parma or crumbed mushrooms (on a mushroom mission tonight)
Big servings, most people could share. Hungarian food it's finest! "Nyamm Nyamm"
Reminiscing times when I could enjoy Hungarian food!

Food at this bustling and constantly packed restaurant is wonderful. Good, tasty, authentic Hungarian food- so come with an appetite! The schnitzel I received was easily larger than my head, but so tasty I could have gone back for more.
As the restaurant isn’t that large, it does make it quite noisy because tables are packed in quite closely together; but it does have a great vibe and energy that’s suitable for friends and family gatherings.
Only downside to this restaurant was that the service wasn’t great; we did have to keep trying to get the waiters attention for things we shouldn’t have had to (getting menus, placing orders, ordering more drinks etc). So as long as you’re not coming here for a quick feed, this restaurant should deliver.
We recently went to a Hungarian restaurant in Elsternwick called Budapest Restaurant and Palinka Bar with Hello. Imnikki and co. We had never tried Hungarian cuisine prior to this so it was a first for us which got us very excited!. To ensure we experienced the best of their dishes, we decided to order the Budapest Banquet which consisted of three courses. At $42 per head, it did not sound like a bad idea at all!

If you want excellent value for money and to stay full till the next day, I strongly suggest giving Budapest a go. Not only are the portion sizes very generous, but if you're dining in a group, as I did with One Piece Left and my friends, then the Budapest Banquet is sure to keep your tummy and wallet happy.
First up was the chicken soup or more commonly known as Jewish Penicillin, and what a soothing and heart bowl of soup this was. Tender chicken, soft matzo balls and such a flavourful broth. Also part of the first course was the chopped liver pate. Rich, creamy and well-rounded flavours, we obviously had to ask for more bread to make sure none of this went to waste.
The second course was a sight to behold. A big platter consisting of Hungarian goulash with nokedli, schnitzel, crumbed mushrooms, cevapcici and the fluffiest and dreamiest mashed potatoes ever. The goulash was incredible, almost as good as a home-cooked goulash. The deep robust flavours made the goulash go extremely well with the schnitzel and smoky cevapcici, and even better by itself with the pillowy soft nokedli. The lightly crumbed mushrooms stuffed with dilled goat's cheese was another winner - perfectly balanced in taste and a lovely contrasting mouthfeel that was both light yet dense.
For me, the schnitzel and cevapcici were overshadowed by the aforementioned delights. It was quite a heavy meal, but luckily the pickles and red cabbage helped balanced out all that meat and starch.
Last but not least was the apple strudel with either custard or ice cream, and while it was good, it was a bit of a lacklustre finish. The pastry as flaky as but the fillings a bit dry. Still this did not detract from what a great meal this was!
Thumbs up for the excellent and accommodating service too.
This is the best schnitzel in Melbourne that’s not from my mums house but given hers aren’t available to you, you better go here. Go big, go Budapest !
I hadn't visited Budapest Restaurant and Palinka Bar for about 7 years, so rediscovering this gem of a restaurant was an absolute delight!
Wine spritzers were previously something that was laughed at within my circle of friends, but after giving the red wine and cola spritz a try, I am now a fan! The Hugo elderflower cocktail was so refreshing!
The schnitzels were out of this world! The portions were very generous, and there was alot of variety in the type of schnitzel offered on the menu. The crumb was perfectly light and crunchy, without being overly oily. I really enjoyed the Hungarian paprika sauce with the Hungarian style schnitzel which was stuffed with csabai smoked sausage and cheddar. The crumbed mushrooms with csiki sauce was incredibly delicious. The apple and walnut strudel was nice, but not as impressive as the rest of the meal.
Can't wait to return for some more schnitzels!
I went there with my Mum last night and I had the Chicken Parmigiana and Potatoes and Spinach with a Raspberry Lemonade and my Mum had the Chicken Liver and Salad with a glass of Water. I had a Lemon and Sugar Pancake for Dessert, which was delicious. The staff were kind to us and the service was terrific.
Came here on Sunday for lunch today. I had creamed spinach and crumbed mushrooms. Others had the crumbed veal and mashed potato and barramundi and salad. We also had potato latkes with sour cream. Very nice food, generous servings and quick service. We were too full but would like to try the crepes for dessert.
My advice is try this place on a very empty stomach. Not only are the servings generous as one would expect from Hungarian, but also the food is rich. I ordered an old favorite which was the roast duck with sauerkraut and it was as good as I remembered and the goulash that my husband ordered was delicious too.
The waiters are also very enthusiastic about the food and really like ensure their patrons are happy. So let them recommend for you if your confused as the menu is quite big. (Note the theme).
But my favourite by far was their special. Apple and walnut strudel. This took me by surprise as it was freshly made including the filo. It may not be much to look at as far as planting goes, but seriously I was left speechless. I have not eaten strudel like this in decades. Yes decades! It transported me back to being a little girl watching my grandmother make it (I could never make it I just don't have her pastry hands it seems). I miss my grandmother so much and this nearly made me cry just from the memory and experience. I want to go back just for that alone. The best strudel easily by far I have had since I was little. Thank you, thank you so much for giving me that memory again. I will return!
Great food. Nearly as good as my auntie’s. We shall be back.
Stuffed vine leaves were magnificent and ceviche were ver tasty.
Great winter fare.
