I can't praise this place highly enough! Lovely, super-professional staff, cosy atmosphere, great coffee, and the food... don't even get me started! I had 'The Mushroom' today and I'm still in disbelief as to how something can be so. damn. delicious! Coming back tomorrow morning for the ricotta pancakes and proudly bringing along a friend from interstate. Faraday's Cage is everything that makes Melbourne special! Love your work!

Arguably the best breakfast i've ever had! And the Cronut to top it off was to die for. Will be back very soon!

Finally found some time to visit reputable Faraday's Cage for brunch! I absolutely adored its spacious and yet, beautiful interiors. We got Benny ($20) and Breakfast Board ($22) - they both looked and tasted amazing!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about their Benny. Their pulled pork was just perfect - soft, juicy, and went wonderfully together with the rest. Not to mention, they were generous with the amount so I was definitely full afterwards. Oozing poached eggs and chipotle hollandaise sauce were fantastic as well - so much flavour. One of the best brunch I've had in Melbourne. Can't recommend enough :)

Faradays Cage is open for business and I popped in to grab some sourdough bread. I arrived too early in the week as bread is only currently available Thursday to Sunday but now I know. Instead grabbed a blueberry danish and a take away coffee. The coffee was as good as I remembered from earlier visits and the danish had a lovey vanilla custard and I reluctantly shared this with my WFH wife... clearly I am a true hero. Will be back for the bread though... I’ve tried making my own sourdough while in isolation but I think it’s a task best left to the experts.

I was excited to be invited back to Faraday’s Cage to check out their recently revised menu. I’ve seen quite a number of their amazingly photogenic dishes on social media before and was definitely interested to see if the hype was justified.

The cafe building itself, a former recording studio, was all brick and industrial exposed beams with tables and cabinetry hand made by the owners out of upcycled wood from well worn European kiln pallets. Amazingly distressed and grainy. Faraday’s Cage has a rear courtyard and also a rear entrance off Chapel Street (Fitzroy) and a few tables out there with dog owners nursing lattes. We settled on a table near the bakery counter and ordered coffee and pastries to start off.

Today we got reacquainted with the
Super buttery flavoured pain au chocolat... soooooo flaky and delicious, great choice of strong chocolate in the middle.

We ordered an oat milk latte, this was delicious, the oat milk is not heavy and compliments the coffee flavor really well and didn’t separate like most lactose free milks tend to.

Bananarama smoothy with coco nibs was great. It wasn’t overly sweet, you could really taste the nut butter and was super thick. Yum

We had tried the Saffron poached pear before and were reminded of super nutty granola with flakes of coconut was incredible. Each mouthful was full of crunchy nuts and the coconut milk and cocoyo gave a creamy texture and made for a lovely rich and filling breakfast. I loved the new presentation also.

Panko crumbed tickling burger. Super crunchy fish but still succulent, served with a super generous amount of tartare sauce and a generous amount of pickle, the ratio of pickles and sauces was great, ensuing that each bite of the soft brioche bun had all range of flavours. Cleverly hidden in the bottom of the burger was a chilli sauce that gave a lovely hint of after bite tingle.

Lastly we tried the chilli scramble with a side of bacon. I liked how the chilli was kept largely on top and you could add in as much or little as you desired. The scramble was perfectly cooked and the bread yummy and springy too.

We parted this visit with a couple of baguettes for the road.

Thanks so much for having us.

The cronut we had served was delicious and looked so cute coated in a pink white chocolate ball/sprinkle. It was seriously crunchy and delicious. The danish was also well made and full of crunch and custard. Both the croissant and pain au chocolat were light, soft and puffy and we needed a sharp knife to slice through the fragile pastry to spread the jams etc.

We ordered a selection of breakfast items which all came out together and all looked as well presented in reality as I had seen online. We chose the pulled pork eggs benedict, the salmon and fritters, the ricotta pancakes, the layered chia pudding and the granola with saffron poached pear.

We tasted from hot to cold and started with the eggs benny. Delicious slow cooked pulled pork shoulder under gooey yolk poached eggs and lemony hollendaise all sitting on a spicy chipotle. This dish was a tasty option for meat lovers. It got my dad’s tick of approval and it was his favourite.

The Hot Smoked Salmon and Fritters was another tasty dish. I loved the addition of the crumbed & cheese stuffed jalapeño and avocado mole that supported the flavoursome fritters & salmon.

The ricotta hot cakes were pretty as a picture and were thick and luscious pancakes. I couldn’t taste the white chocolate over the generous maple syrup, but I certainly loved the meringue, mascarpone and berries.

Our next dish was the cold coconut and matcha chia pudding, this was immaculately presented in a clear glass with kiwi fruit down the sides. Layers of coconut chia, matcha, and mango cashew mousse made each spoon a tasty new taste sensation. This was quite sweet compared to other chia dishes I have tasted before. This was my mums favourite dish.

Our last dish was perhaps the most beautifully presented granola dish I have seen. The saffron poached pear was vibrant and colourful and the flowers and fruit added to this colourful display. The thyme that went into the granola gave it quite a savoury play, with a subtle sweetness mostly by the additions of Fruit & Acai and the creamy Labne yogurt. I loved this dish for its subtle sweetness and it clearly was the healthy option.

For me I was conflicted between the poached pear granola dish and the pulled pork eggs benny being my favourite. Having said that there wasn’t a dish that I didn’t enjoy and I’d gladly have them all again.

Their lunchtime menu has interesting dishes too, so I will have to come back a little later in the day and try those dishes.

As a bakery Faraday’s Cage ticks all the boxes and their bread was baked very well with a deep brown crunchy crust. We took a baguette and a sourdough loaf home and had some lovely fresh bread with peanut butter later in the afternoon. Naughty but so nice.

Fairly different menu from many other cafes. Ordered the egg plant schnitzel dish. Super tasty, not too oily and loved the addition on the egg and salad to cut through the ‘fatty’ texture of the eggplant. My soy latter was great also.

You know a cafe is good when you have trouble deciding what to order... ended up with the house smoked salmon and corn fritters ($22) ft. An egg, avocado salsa & stuffed jalapeños. The dish had everything you could want for brekkie - a bit of heat, protein, some veggie and a creamy chilli jam mayo to tie everything together. Must try!! Other dishes featured include: the Green nourish bowl, eggs benny with pulled pork and avocado/tomato bruschetta. All very well presented and plated well.

Beautiful and delicious brunch dishes. I got the mushroom dish with poached eggs, my friends got the wagyu beef burger and smoked salmon & fritters, all were so amazing.

The staff was very friendly and knew well about the dishes, so she was able to give food recommendations.

I’d definitely be back for more of these delicious food 😋

Had the opportunity to visit this cafe as a result of winning an instagram giveaway. Part of the giveaway pack was a sourdough loaf, baguette, almond and chocolate croissant, strawberry danish, Proud Mary coffee beans, Tea Drop tea leaves and Oatly oat milk.
I had a taste test of the pastries straight away and loved how light and fluffy the croissant were. I also tried the oat milk with my coffee machine at home, it had a lovely taste and blended well with the coffee espresso.

Very impressed by Faraday's Cage! Went there for brunch this morning and were greeted by lovely staff who were very attentive despite a 10min wait before getting seated.

I ordered the Ricotta Hotcakes which I'd rate a 9/10. They were super fluffy and light with bits of ricotta throughout so that made them a little different to other hotcakes I've had. They came with a beautiful raspberry type coulis which complemented the hotcakes so well (even though I'm not a massive fan  of raspberries). They were very generous with the amount of pistachios they put on top! The only reason I didn't score it a 10 is because it came with a huge dollop of cream, which lots of people would like, but I personally don't like cream and would have much preferred a marscapone, icecream or even yoghurt.

My partner ordered the Chilli Scramble Eggs with soft shell crab and really enjoyed it. The crab was cooked to perfection, and the curry leaves and saffron made for a more unique flavour.

Also I have to say, the coffee was amazing! Usually I wouldn't bother to say anything about the coffee as most coffee is pretty good in Melbourne. We ordered skinny lattes and they were the perfect strength and temperature.

Would definitely recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed! I'll be back to try the pastries :)
