Shifty Chevre was an unplanned experience yet probably one of my highlights - with a perfect note to end our trip down south. Stumbling across glowing cheese displays out front on Brunswick street, we were easily drawn in. Its casual, cosy and unpretentious and the outdoor seating is recommended to soak in life on the main drag. Its a no fuss cheese bar, with a quirky and cosy space inside with mixed areas depending on the mood you're seeking at whatever time of day.
We delighted in a mix of charcuterie and weekly cheese board, and discovered a sensational beaujolais which seems to be following us around back home in Sydney. The staff were obliging and keen to look after us, making up a few alternatives to our seconds based on preferences from the first board. That being said, these are preferences at at no point were we let down with quality or flavours. At a cheese bar it would be hard to make a bad pick. Some of the produce is exclusive, and some of our favourites cannot be purchased elsewhere it seems.
Beautiful little cheese and wine place. I went here with some friends, there were four of us, it was really busy but the waitress found us a table in the back garden. Te atmosphere was really nice and relaxed. The food and the wine were perfect! I absolutely loved the cheesecake! Would definitely recommend!

Nestled in a cosy, narrow corner shop, Shifty Chevre is a cheese lover’s paradise. As well as its food offerings, they have cheese for sale, on display in their front cabinet. There’s also the French-style raclette, where slices of cheese are placed on individual paddles and inserted into an oven-like appliance. Melted cheese is poured over our potatoes and cured meats such as prosciutto, cured ham and French salami.
Excellent French restaurant with a great variety of meals for various budgets. Lovely staff. Would recommend the croques and the salads. Good vego options.
As a french it was amazing to find some very good cheese over there !! Had the raclette ! Which is not very expensive and you're not hungry anymore after it ! The service was perfect very nice and friendly

OMG. CHEEEESE. 'Nuff said. When the menu says that they serve a bubbling cauldron of cheese, you know it's going to be a good night. It's a great place to go with a group, with a cheese fondue or raclette in the middle of the table, and lots of things to dip in. I don't think I've ever been so close to bliss!
Perfectly poached eggs, soft and molten, and smothered in deliciously creamy hollandaise. The ham hock was the highlight, though – piled high under the egg, I couldn’t really tell what I was getting into, but breaking it up with my fork, it was soft and tender and juicy, with the most delicious smokey flavour. Oh, and that pork crackling…
Came here for a quick bite to eat. Chai latte could have been better, lacked that chai punch and was luke warm. Had the smashed avocado with a side of bacon. A great smashed avocado made even better with merediths goats cheese mixed through it. A great little place to try out, they also have a cheese night coming up!
Cheese fondue is the best I've had in the world, tried in France, Netherlands and Melbourne. Cheesecake is the worst I've had, it's really disgusting. Try them for yourself!
Went here for a birthday last night & didn't really know what to expect but we were pleasantly suprised. From the minute we walked in the staff couldn't of been more help & considering we had a large table the service was top & very efficient.
Can't go wrong with cheese & matched beers/wine but the menu is fantastic & I think I would consume everything on there. We opted for the Mac n cheese with bacon which was absolutely delicious & huge (probably a good idea to share) and also the chorizo, the pork crackling & the halloumi which were also very tasty.
This place has a very nice ambience & is very cosy, perfect for those cold winter nights in Melbourne. Do yourself a favour & visit this place
This place is too good. It's the sort of place where you don't want the night to ever end. We shared a wonderful cheese and meat platter paired with great wine, followed by a cheese fondue and cheesecake. Loved the dark lighting and cozy tables. Loved the local art displayed inside. Loved the fun friendly staff. Perfect evening!
Cheese, cocktails and delightful decorations. Well worth a drink or two.
Try the rosemary, maple, old fashioned. It’s outstanding.
The espresso Martinis are some of the best in town, the food is incredibly good, and the drinks are very reasonably priced. I booked out the venue to host a 30th and they really went above and beyond to take care of us. Definitely stop in and check it out, the beer garden at the back is a hidden gem.
Such a cute place! Full of character, art, good music and drinks. They really did a good job. I can see the passion and personality of the people who run this little pearl in the heart of Fitzroy. Highly recommended for a good drink and chat with friends or lovers or both!
I came here with a friend on a Sunday night. Not busy at all but very friendly and attentive staff. Good choice of music. Definitely a bar not a restaurant - wine, cheese, olives and charcuterie boards which were lovely. Menu was small so it was nice to not agonise over what to get. Very cool bathroom! Wish I took a photo
If you are a cheese and wine person, you cannot miss out on this great venue. Best to book though, as it gets busy. The cheese and wine is mostly French and is just out of this world. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. An absolute must if you are in Fitzroy.
An odd highlight is the lovely bathroom...!
