Pretty awesome ambience. Burger can be a little messy to handle but the taste and everything else is fantastic. Do drop by if you're around the corner. It's absolutely worth it!
Having established in the very hip and trendy areas of Fitzroy, New School Canteen offers a diverse menu that caters not only to meat-eating burger lovers, but also their vegan and vegetarian friends alike. While some components, namely the beef patty and the chicken wings, could do with some improvements, we found the burgers here undeniably tasty and satisfying, and sides like the Loaded Fries and Shakes were definitely no sideshow and proved to be equally enjoyable as well.
Went to new school canteen late after an event. Really nice fitout and the menu reads well. The burger was great, meat slighty pink. The cheese melted perfectly. Really rate this burger.
Tucked away in the backstreets of Fitzroy is a cafe/restaurant serving anything you could ever need as a Melbournian. Not only do they offer health conscious brunch meals but also ones if you're looking to indulge. And not only that but they have a big ass burger menu if you're looking to get just that bit phatter. This time I tried the burgers and was pretty impressed!! Not only are they gorgeous to look at but they taste great too! Keen to come back and try their brunch options next time
Great service, excellent burger - the addition of the croquette made my burger ridiculously good - nice place, busy but not congested, a repeat visit is a definite, maybe after noon as the meals were substantial, once more, great service
New School Canteen is a new cafe that has a spacious, minimalist and modern design which was pleasing to the eye. The Scotch eggs were hands down the best eggs I've had. It's such a shame there were only two halves of an egg. The grilled cheesy toast that came along with it was a yummy complimentary to it too. The bacon wasn't crispy at all, instead it was pretty rock hard so it was difficult to chew on it. Staff were prompt and lovely. Their burger and fries menu looked delicious too! Would love to come back and try their other dishes.
New kid on the block by way of Fitzroy cafes tucked away off the main strips but super easy to get to. Serving breakfast, brunch and burgers for lunch and dinner, it's an airy and bright dining room that is comfortable to sit in with plenty of space around the tables. It was reasonably busy when we arrived for Sunday breakfast but we were able to get a table easily and our coffee order was seen to promptly.
Food choices were great! 1st time visiting with teenage boys! The burgers and the peanut butter shake was a hit..... I thoroughly enjoyed the Freeka Time which was delicious and my coffee was spot on! I'll definitely be back for the ham and eggs which looks an interesting surprise on a plate! Thanks for something new and inviting New School Canteen!!!
Great new place bringing some of the best of their LoLo and Wren and Rude Boy Burgers menu and fresh new items to Fitzroy. Fabulous coffee as always. Great open and airy atmosphere. Authentically honest and friendly service, not pretentious. Good compliment to the area.
Speaking of new, New School Canteen had only been open for a few weeks when we visited. This all-day eatery serves up brunch until 4 and burgers all day, every day. As tempting as the burgers sounded, we were there for breakfast. Burgers would have to wait for another day. When I sat down the first thing I noticed was just how large the tables were! The pristine white tables could have comfortably sat 3. Alternatively, the more gluttonous amongst us would have no trouble finding table space for more dishes at the same time.
Great setup and brand new kitchen, the staff are very friendly worth a try, they have cold drip coffee which is great
Amazing vegetarian options for burgers. So good to find a place that knows how to do a decent veggie burger. Have been here a couple of times and have always been happy. I ordered uber eats last night and there was a small note with our order which was friendly and really thoughtful! Would definitely reccomend it to anyone. The Blue Chip and Cauliflower burgers are amazing :)
Burgers are good. Coffees are good. I like the industrial decor and there are plenty of seating indoors and a few outdoors. Nice to find a cafe that is alao open for dinner in the area. Priced well, not too expensive but right for the quality of food.
I love the simple yet stylish desgine of this new cafe venue.
The menu is no exception. Great range of vegetarian food and the multitude of vegi burgers are just scrumptious!
I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as delecious.

Probably the best vegetarian burger I've had, so good it's comparable to the best beef burgers I've had!
Chicken fillets are amazing on an all-round great burger. Milkshakes are top notch. Have sinned here many a time while on diet.
