What’s up Bud? 🌻
That is what the big flower said to the small flower, yes, but it is also what I am saying to you!
Because while crabs never give things away as they are shellfish, I am giving you deets about the perfect destination for food lovers.
Nature Cafe Bar opened with one single goal: to be THE place for vegans and vegetarians as well as anyone looking to eat a healthy meal. And they have things on the menu that I would never have imagined that I would get to try a few years ago. EVERYTHING on the menu is 100% plant based (except for cow’s milk used as a friendly option for coffees). EVERYTHING.
Banana Pancakes? Vegan B.L.A.T? Vegan fish tacos?! Vegan eggs? Chocolate lava cake? Magick mushroom latte’s? Mylk shake’s? Food that CHANGE colour?! Endless ‘instagramable’ smoothie bowls?! WHAT IS THIS PLACE EVEN? 😮
Even better is that they have many garlic & onion free option which are ingredients that can upset people’s guts and they tend to avoid while eating out! 🙏
They are proud to help preserve our health and the lives of our precious animal friends and the environment. PLUS they have ongoing and frequent events going on and you might even the privilege of enjoying brunch with a fun, happy vibe with live music!
It is quite far and that is why I haven’t been here yet. It is far, but a perfect day escape like the one I had. So I think it’s fair to say that after this… I am moving! I SO AM 😂
We found parking across the road in a parking spot near some cinemas in although we had to pay for it I think that during the weekend there is some free parking. The place is located in a somewhat busy road and it is actually very close to other popular venues, but it surely stands out from everything else.
There is some outdoor seating and once you go inside you get overwhelmed but the beauty of this place as there are walls, painting, props everywhere and it seems that you are actually entering a forest indeed! Honestly I don’t think that they could have done a better job here!
We were kindly received by the staff members and everyone was so busy and joyful! Such a frenetic environment! It was actually quite busy at the time as it’s clearly a very popular venue (as you will see why) they took time to greet and lead us to a table 🤗 we decided to sit outside the little back yard area that was again amazing in every sense of the word - they have a painted a mural that has animals and plants and makes you feel like you’re in the jungle! I cannot imagine how much work that would have taken!
I knew how hard it would be to choose from the menu at this place as obviously everything sounded amazing on the menu that I had seen online and even got more confused as I saw the meals coming out I just wanted to try everything 😂so I decided to ask for the advice or Amrita, the owner, that obviously knows what’s best 👌 here’s what we had:
- Blue Mermaid Smoothie Bowl - incredible well designed and with the most beautiful aesthetics, it is one of the most beautiful bowls I have ever seen! Being blue always takes things to another level and with the outstanding decorations that this had, it couldn’t came out as more perfect 👏😭😍🙋♀️so beautiful that you don’t even want to touch it! But you sure should and devour this as the taste is as incredible as it looks! The base is called soursop and is a blend of a creamy pineapple strawberry flavour mixed with banana, pineapple, coconut milk, agave nectar and organic blue spirulina to make that bright blue colour. Yes, this is a little bowl of heaven and it sure has more than what meets the eye! 👏 size is approved, consistency is creamy and like I said the taste is outstanding 👌 it must have taken quite a few times to perfect that recipe I can only imagine! And then the topping last ate just insane 👏 Topped with banana slices, strawberries, orange slices (very interesting!), and some other seasonal fresh fruit, mostly berries, it’s THE PERFECT summer bow 😍 the house made apple crumble granola clusters come in a great serving size occupying half of the bowl and the taste is not overly sweet and just sweet enough to please everyone 👏 there are also some shreds of coconut (cute little stripes!) and this is how you know this isn’t just an average blue bowl (I mean, being a blue bowl isn’t average from the start but actually with so much competition and things out there there are already quite a few good competitors!) And here the coconut yogurt art speaks for itself and makes this one stand out - it looks like little pouches of a chia pudding and actually you cannot find a very strong coconut flavour as you would expect (as it looks quite dense!) and you have a subtly taste of coconut and it’s the consistency that takes over and makes it stand out 👏 great thinking here and I personally found them quite enjoyable. It also comes with some raspberry coulis and decorated with edible flowers (as it obviously had to) and I absolutely loved this 👏 I honestly cannot recommend this one enough and if I were to visit again I would certainly ask for it again even though ALL the bowls are incredible and you cannot really go wrong ✨ if you’re unsure which one to ask, just see which ingredients you like the most and be ready to get dazzled 👏
- Tropical Pancakes - I had actually seen that in the menu online they had some cherry pancakes but once we arrived at the venue I was told those were from the old menu and these were for summer! And obviously I didn’t mind at all, because how can you go wrong with pancakes 😂 there are some large banana pancakes that are not particularly fluffy but instead more dense in nature and of food consistency still 👌 I would say that the dough is very wee conceived and that they still make it quite enjoyable (even those fluffy pancake fans will love this for sure!). They come topped topped with fresh strawberries and some other seasonal fresh fruit for flavour and decoration purposes 😂 all fresh and carefully chosen, as well as some toasted coconut sprinkled on top. The best part of definitely taking a piece of pancakes with that mouthwatering organic vanilla bean Pana ice cream and OMG 😍 the best! And actually the mango coulis with the mint on top enhances the flavours here and make this a total winner. It also comes with some maple syrup on the side that you absolutely should pour and indulge 👏 THE DREAM. THE ABSOLUTE DREAM 👏
- Magic Buddha Bowl - once I heard that this meal actually changed colour, OBVIOUSLY that I had so see if the magic was indeed real. And it’s actually so impressive to watch! It’s basically a Thai inspired bowl with purple Vermicelli noodles that through some magical chemistry and acid-basic geeky equations, turn from blue to purple when you squeeze a lemon on them! I actually haven’t had any other bowl in Melbourne that does that and I think that says something about this place! But it’s not just the looks again that win - the taste is superb again, marvellous indeed! The noodles are cooked in sesame oil and they come paired with marinated tofu, peanuts, cucumber, slaw and with a tangy satay dressing, which I absolutely loved! It is actually such a great meal in therms of ingredients and all very Thai infused and with herbs and seasonal greens. You won’t be disappointed with you choose this one 👏
- Charcoal Chicken Burger (w/ VEGAN CHEDDAR 😍🥳) - my friend had this meal and I tried a piece (obviously) because I wanted to also give my opinion about the vegan versions of meat and cheese! With some a Crispy southern fried chicken patty I have to say that the consistency gave me some mixed feelings as it is quite mushy on the inside, but still incredibly crumbly and with great taste on the outside. Not the best vegan fried chicken patty I’ve had but not the worst one either, but if there is some slight doubt here, then the vegan cheddar cheese makes this one stand out and compensate for it 👏 absolutely loved the taste and how it was melted on top of the vegan fried chicken 👏 and it also comes with some Lebanese cucumber, a tomato slice, lettuce, mayo, BBQ sauce and Gherkin, everything served on a black charcoal brioche bun that was DEFINITELY approved and to die for. Portion is great and overall taste is certainly well achieved and you can choose to pair it with some sides, and we obviously chose the obvious sweet potato fries - crunchy crispy and ideally salty!
- Blue Latte - we decided to do a little experiment with this one and if it wasn’t enough to actually have a blue latte (which is already so instagramable and extra 😂) we added a magick medicinal mushroom shot! You can a yard this to any drink and you can choose from Cordypeps, Lions mane, Reishi and Turkeys tail. And while I don’t really know what the names mean, they all have a particular effect and ‘power’ (😂). Since I had no clue what to pick I asked from Amrita to chose one for me and she opted for the Reishi which is supposed to have some relaxation benefits (which are never enough and obviously always appreciated! 👏). The drink itself is made with organic blue spirulina from blue-green algae and some ginger, cinnamon, aniseed to enhance the flavour, all blended in your favourite plant based milk. It’s purpose is to boost the immune system, increase energy and metabolism and improve digestion! The taste is very enjoyable and definitely would winner over a matcha latte (not chai though, as nothing is ever a match to a chai 😂).
- Avo-Joa Smoothie - we also asked for a smoothie and I have to say that I would recommend this one over the blue latte in terms of taste! It is absolutely incredible! With pure feijoa which is a tropical fruit and has a tangy pineapple guava flavour, blended wit banana, avocado, almond milk and dates this reminded me of actually acai! The final taste is very similar indeed and even the colour is quite the same! Consistency was on point and it came topped with chia seeds and some flowers - would recommend! 👏 but again i will also add that no matter what smoothie you pick, you’ll make a good choice 👌 they all seemed incredible and they will certainly be filling and just a bliss,
- Raspberry Cheesecake - as a final treat to our brunch we decided to try one of the cakes they had! They actually had SO many and obviously since all were vegan, it would be quite hard to pick which one to have - honestly they look so incredible! They literally seem like those raw cakes from popular health magazines and I’m pretty sure that the taste will be a winner too in all. Amrita picked up one of her favourite which was a raspberry cheesecake and once it arrived 👏👏👏 presentation ON POINT! It’s sooooo pretty! It’s basically a base of raw chocolate (semi solid - it actually is quite soft!), with a middle layer of the raspberry cheesecake (spongy in consistency and kind of a melted marshmallow even?) and then a top layer of chocolate again. On top there is something that looks like a little pink hat? 😂 or maybe a little merengue? 😂 yum!
- Homemade Juices - they now have homemade juices selling to the public as they had quite a demand for it! The glass bottles actually had a very pretty layout and the juices inside are so bright! You can definitely tell it’s pure fruit and no artificial sweeteners or ingredients!
Would I go back? OF COURSE 🥳 loved the service, the atmosphere and the food! Everything is so bright and positive in here that this is the place to cheer you up after a long working week, to start your weekend the best way possible, or even for a quick getaway during the week if you live close!
