My husband and I went there for lunch. Neither of us was particularly hungry but we wanted some tradition german dishes. We avoided other places because the meals seemed too large but were happy to see smaller options here.
My husband ordered a wurst which he enjoyed. I also tasted it and was impressed. Unfortunately, my Chicken and Avocado croissant was not good. The chicken was dry, the avocado brown and the croissant slightly overcooked. Avocado goes brown easily and it's not difficult to overcook croissants but with the chicken being dry there was no redeeming feature.
However, I did order a custard strudel (cherry) for dessert and it was delicious. I don't even know how to describe how good it was. The cherry filling tasted good. I find a lot of cherry flavoured foods taste like bad cough medicine, not this. This was fresh and juicy. The pastry was well proportioned to the filling and the cream had a nice hint of vanilla in it.
The serving staff in the dining area were lovely and helpful. At the counter, things were disorganised and crowded which gave a bad impression. The Manager was trying his best but seemed to be trying too hard to be in everything. I suspect he might need to learn to trust his staff and limit himself to one area of the business, not micromanaging everything.
Overall I would suggest enjoying the traditional German food and not worrying about anything else.
This is the truest German shop in hanhdorf. Have a joke with the cranky German and taste his beautiful meals and pastries. Well worth a visit and it’s old works charm took me back to Düsseldorf. Love it
