Even though it is a very busy cafe, the food came out really quick and the staff members are extremely efficient and friendly!
Lovely cafe with beautiful food and very friendly staff. They can cater for gluten free and vegan, and it was delicious!
Shanklin Cafe is located at 500 Tooronga rd, in Hawthorn East.
We ordered:
Chilli Prawn Scrambled -
Wild-caught banana prawn, fried shallots, cherry tomatoes, goats cheese, fresh chilli, smoked paprika, grated parmesan, served with sourdough.
Nutella Pancakes -
Pancakes with strawberries, grilled banana, oreo-crumbles, vanilla ice-cream and Nutella.
Health Bowl -
Smoked King-Salmon, garlic & ginger steamed broccolini, green pea, black turtle bean, organic red quinoa, avo, smoked corn, Tuscan kale, honey beetroot hummus & pomegranate balsamic dressing.
Velvet Beetroot Latte.
This is one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne, the service and quality of food is amazing. The chilli prawn was the best scrambled I’ve had. I shared the pancakes, but wished I had it all to myself. I can’t fault this cafe.

Visited with a friend after stumbling upon this cafe on Zomato - 4.9 rating definitely caught my eye! Took me awhile to travel down to Hawthorn but it was definitely worth it :) We grabbed Baked Eggs Shakshuka ($22) and Portobello Mushroom ($23). They were all beautifuly plated and service was friendly and attentive.
Baked Eggs Shakshuka came with red peppers, cherry tomato, chorizo & goat cheese with sourdough. Mildly spicy - enough to give off that heat you seek.
Portobello Mushroom was panko crumbed with zaatar spice with halloumi topped with 2 poached eggs. I actually liked this one more. Mushroom + Egg + Halloumi in one bite = heaven. It was just beautiful - slightly crispy, savoury, sweet all at the same time.
Shanklin has to be one of the best cafes I’ve ever visited. Each dish on the menu is creatively plated and tastes as good as they look. The stunning presentation will blow you away, but each bite will make you want to stay for more. Not only will you walk out of Shanklin extremely full, but you will be counting down the days till your next visit. One of the best things about Shanklin during this time (Covid 19) is the outdoor seating. There are plenty of tables undercover outdoors, but be sure to wear a warm coat and book in advance. The staff here practice safe table service and ensure all tables are hygienically cleaned before seating new customers. The staff were also another standout feature of this cafe. They are extremely friendly, professional and will let you alter the menu however you please. We can not recommend this cafe more! So many great things to choose, you can’t go wrong! Our favourite was the chicken burger!
Decided to visit one of the highest rating Shanklin cafe few days ago, ordered myself a salmon potato rösti and a beetroot latte. The beetroot latte is visually appealing, reddish-pink colour with some dried petals on top and honey on the side. I find the beetroot taste quite bland, the milky taste comes forward to me more which disappoints me a bit, but it’s a GOOD drink. For the potato rosti, it’s taste really good, a nice combination of smoked salmon and egg benedict. Although it burnt a bit, not sure if it’s intentional to create some crispy texture or it’s just a slight mistake. Overall, I quite like the food and atmosphere. The staffs are VERY friendly. I would suggest go for something light like teas or juices with the potato rosti 💜
Food and drinks were amazing. Have been returning to this cafe for a few times now. They have an incredible menu which makes it hard for me to decide cause everything is amazingly delicious. Their matcha comes with a side small beaker of honey and it’s super cute. It’s also a good way for me to control the sweetness of my drink.
Amazing and friendly stuffs too. They know how to recommend their best choice to the customers.

I had a very high expectation towards the baked egg but (probably) due to corona (the menu was changed?) it did not meet up my expectations as i suspected many components were missing (like mushroom) but overall it was a great brunch experience!

We had an amazing experience at Shanklins Cafe and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Probably book in advance though. We didn't and had to wait a short while but the manager Daniel maneuvered people around to fit us in. He and his staff were incredible. Working together like they'd been doing it for years. We were checked on often, even with the restaurant filled. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. My friend who lives in the area recommended it and she talked to Daniel like they were best friends.
Most important is the food and it did not disappoint. I can see why it is rated so highly. I ate the Portobello Mushroom and it was just what I needed as my first out of house meal since Corvid-19 started. My friend got the Super Green and unfortunately a tiny part of the toast was burnt. It was all fixed up and after we shared the Nutella Pancakes. Glad we shared because the portion sizes were HUGE and I struggled cramming each delicious bite in my mouth.
I was unable to get a picture of them but what soured my experience slightly was two women next to us bickering to each other about being seated next to two large dark skinned males. We were close to saying something.
Over all a 4.9/5 experience. Will definitely come back.

Had an amazing brunch at Shanklin yesterday. We ordered Chili Prawn Scramble and Pork Benny. Both tasted really good, well seasoned and fresh. We also ordered Nutella Pancake. It was a different texture than what I was expecting, not super soft/fluffly, but could be because it’s vegan (?) The topping was amazing though. Iced matcha latte tasted a bit bland, but after notifying the staff they gave us another one and then another one, so a total of 3 glasses. They also gave us another pancake on the house because of it. We felt really bad about it though but nonetheless service was 5/5. I’d give it a 6/5 even if possible. Ambience was 5/5 as well. Please keep up the good work👍🏻
Shanklin was a beautiful cafe with great indoor and outdoor seating available. The staff were so lovely and welcoming.
Shanklin have some amazing dishes available for people who have a sweet tooth and also for people looking to eat healthy.
On the sweet side - shanklin offer an amazing Nutella freakshake with incredible presentation and tastes incredible, true to the Nutella flavour. They also offer Nutella and ice cream pancakes topped with crushed Oreo with fruit surrounding the pancake stack. It tasted as amazing as it looked.
On the healthy side - we ordered a colourful bowl which came with salmon and some beans, corn, avo and tasty greens. This dish was equally as delicious!

Such a nice and cozy cafe. Super friendly staff and relaxing vibe. Have been here multiple times and never disappointed. Baked Egg and the Turkish Latte were my favourite two items, with a little flavour twist from mediterranean could make so much difference!
This is one of my favourite brunch places!!! Definitely worth going to. I would highly recommend making a booking as it gets super busy on weekends especially and helps to ensure that you don’t have to wait too long for a table. The food is amazing!!
Nice place in a quiet suburb. I enjoyed the eggs with prawns. Quite busy though so might be a good idea to make a booking. Friendly service and the food was quick. Would be back to try other items on the menu :)
Food is just out of this world! Service was okay and the restaurant ambience was really nice. I would definitely recommend the Portobello mushroom - it’s so crunchy and juicy.

Let's start with the coffee. Probably one of the best cold brews I've had in some time. That is saying a lot given average coffee standards in Melbourne!
The brunch - unique middle Eastern inspired menu that really hits the nail on balancing the middle Eastern spices with standard lunch fare. Every single dish was delicious and moreish. Consider sharing a brunch dish if you are not starving because the servings were very large!
Service was extremely hospitable with genuine care and concern for our comfort.e.g. swiftly accommodated baby and high chair, and checked in multiple times on how things are.
Probably my fav Israel breakfast in Mel. I really love their baked eggs shakshuka which contains eggs and grilled sausage. The flavor is perfect for me while it’s strong and delicious.
We also ordered chili prawn scramble and potato roasti, and four drinks. The Iced chocolate was not that sweet, which I like the most.
Delicious food and very friendly service.
Well worth the visist to this easily missed cafe. Hidden in plain sight, keep your eye out for it.
Coffee was great! Scramble egg and steak sandwiches were delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. Food came out really quickly too, despite being quite busy.
