If there is one thing I've learned from our misadventures in Haikou, China is never to shy away from a store or restaurant that has only Chinese characters on display. You can always find a gem from these shops. Anyway, the bub is having a slight fever and the perfect food for it is congee or porridge. I usually have a bowl whenever I have fever too. So decided to visit Hurstville Central station and wanted to try one shop that sells porridge, unfortunately it was already 8:00 pm and they were closing already. Went downstairs and found this restaurant. Was a bit hesitant to try as most signs posted on their wall are in Chinese characters. Obviously, those who can read it are the target market of the restaurant. But braved it anyway and asked if they serve congee. And they do!
We ordered fish and chicken balls congee and roasted pork with rice. The place is brightly lit and lots of table for seating. Menu was immediately handed out once we were seated. While we were browsing the menu, tea was already served and a plastic bowl for the bub was set. We didn't wait long for our order to be served. The congee and the balls were really good. It was my first time to have congee with cabbages in it. It was ok and it was really tasty. I love the chicken balls. Serving size for the roasted pork was big but not much rice on the plate. It was a hearty meal. Happy to come back.
The taste here is good. I had the Malasiya curry chicken with rice today and got hot milk tea, daily soup for free, and got black tea in tea pot as well😀You will not believe that I just spent $13.8 on it! It's quite cheap. I will recommand my friends and family members to come here.
Authentic Hong Kong food.
One of the best places in the area to get BBQ Pork, Duck etc. and they have a good selection of vegetarian options too.
Much cleaner than most of the other BBQ restaurants in Hurstville.
Really enjoyed the Soya Sauce Chicken, it was so juicy and the skin was packed with flavour. I added the spring onion and ginger to my bite which made it over the top good. A great little hole in the wall, nice and cheap and not too bad service. If you're wanting a quick tasty bite definitely check these guys out. I have been coming here for 4-5 name changes over 15+ years. The food has been consistent over that time. Yu Star serves good quality Cantonese staple rice and noodle dishes. The Char Sui is very good , our current favourite is a very light Sweet and Sour fish dish
Located just next to the escalators at Hurstville station Forrest Road exit. This BBQ house used to be called Sunny BBQ. Nothing has changed except the name. Must be simply change of ownership.
They specialised in BBQ and other Cantonese cuisine. Always ordered their peking duck meal. You get the normal peeling duck served with pancake and the hoisin sauce plus your choice of duck fried noodle or fried rice. Add another dish listed on their menu you pay just over 45 bucks. Very good deal. Yummy food too.
Bottom line : Great food. Good service. Good Value for money.
Located conveniently next to Hurstville station, Yu Star serves up some very good Cantonese food at affordable prices. They have excellent sweet and sour pork ribs and do a very nice steamed barramundi with shallots and ginger. Highly recommended.
