Had the roast pork banh mi here, one of the best in Sydney ! Through my constant quest to find the perfect Banh Mi, from the cheap 5$ ones at Cabra to a curry chicken variant at Coogee, to the upmarket Mr Crackle at Darlinghurst, this may be -the one. Unlike some places, the bread here maintains its shape and crunch, without being too tough and just the right amount of chewy. Make the bread too tough and all you get is mouthfuls of bread, make it too soft and you feel like you’re eating a limp sausage. The bread here is perfectly made, allowing me to get bits of pork in between mouthfuls of bread.
The pork crackling is crispy and rightly cooked, not too much that it becomes powder in your mouth, but not too chewy that it sticks to your teeth. The mayo and patte servings are generous and the chilli is freshly cut - unlike some stores that use preserved chilis. These are not overly spicy for the faint of heart.
This local bakery is famous in Maroubra for its bahn mi / Vietnamese rolls...specifically the chicken rolls. What's great about them is they pack the salad on...and also they throw in deep fried crunchy onion which I've never seen before but it works.
Wonderful neighbourhood Vietnamese bakery. Enjoyed the crispy pork roll ($8) with its roast pork and crispy crackling. But the regular pork roll ($7) was also excellent - generous on Maggi and pate relative to other places but they're in the perfect ratio to make your banh mi a flavourful delight (not too much that it's soggy). They also put fried onions in, which add an extra element of flavour and crunch. Don't be afraid to get extra chilli here because it's barely spicy (coming from someone who has a low chilli tolerance). Good bread too - lightly crispy, not so hard that it hurts your mouth. Their baked goods look fresh and enticing too.
