Review El Rincon - Melbourne

Really good Spanish food. Excellent sea food paella!! Amazing croquet! And really delicious garlic & chili prawns!! Quite recommended. I'll come back for sure. Thanks for serving us so well!

Great experience at El Rincon tonight. Excellent Sangria on tap, croqueta and paella. Shout out to the waitress who served us tonight; there is a genuine quality to the restaurant that shines in its food and atmosphere.

Restaurant started off saying they didn't have space for us inside despite us having a booking. Nonetheless, wanted to try the calamari and paella as walked past numerous times. Was not disappointed! Calamari could have been crispier but the flavour was good. Ordered the squid ink paella and only criticism could be the prawns, if they were bigger better - for what you pay, 55 for 2 pax. Overall will return, but recommend booking ahead so you get a seat inside. Not the friendliest bunch, but not the worst either...

This is easily the most authentic Spanish restaurant I have been to in Australia (I have lived in Spain and come from a Spanish family) Visiting from Sydney we had to try this place and were not disappointed. Every tapa we ordered was perfect, and they're also the only place I've seen in Australia that gives you a tapa with the drinks you order too (like like do in Spain). The decor is great and authentic as well, and the service is excellent as well. The ultimate compliment I can give is that I'm now determined to bring my Spanish grandmother down from Sydney just to try this place.

Really authentic Spanish food. Tasted like home!!! Nice staff. Highly recommended.

El Rincon turns out to be a warm place on a cold evening. We were served by two waitresses and my gosh they were so nice and welcoming, and yes quick. Cheese platter and meat platter was good but the cold Sangria stole the show for me. We also had lovely desserts. It was worth a visit. Who knows I might visit them again if I'm near Victoria Street some other day.

Located on the Victoria St side of Queen Victoria Market is this small, intimate, authentic Spanish tapas bar, run by some pretty amazing people who want to provide a true Spanish experience to all of their guests. They have recently started running wine tasting nights and have been quite successful with them. We received a warm welcome and introduction, and were seated at the bar. 4 wines, each with a complementing tapas, my favourite being the Tempranillo and delicious pork belly (I wish they had it on their menu!!). It was informative, funny and entertaining, you could really tell they have a passion for what they do and love sharing it with their guests. For only $35 the value was amazing and they weren’t stingy on the wines, a few cheeky top ups were offered and we couldn’t resist, each wine was incredible. I feel like they could charge more and add more tapas, as it started at 6:30pm and we were hungry for dinner. We stayed back after our wine tasting to order more dishes, as we were so impressed with the tapas we had been provided so far. The paella takes 30 mins to prepare and is worth the wait, adding chorizo is a must. So often I am dissapointed with Paella’s but this is not one of those times 🤤 The Jamon croquettes were probably the best I’ve ever had!!! Both the patatas and the calamari were also hits. Not a thing to complain about. Amazing service, authentic experience. Bookings are a must as this is a small space.

We had two lovely times here at he El Rincon and loved the welcoming atmosphere as well as the very delicious food. We found this authentic jewel by chance and it was the perfect way to end our tours through the Queen Victoria Market. We felt like family, enjoyed the Tapas and had breakfast at the second time. Can’t recommend it highly enough! This is the place to enjoy very good Spanish food in Melbourne.

I first dined at El Rincon with a group of colleagues in late July (photos included) and the same group returned yesterday. Apart from tiny tables that are not quite fitting for Australian sized people 😅, the service was good and prompt. Yesterday we ordered one tapas dish each, all but one sardine dish were different from the July dishes. They were all delicious but the fried sardines this time were quite old and a bit soggy. The sardine I had had big hard bones, I nearly chocked on it, so I had to remove all the tiny bones, however I still got pricked a couple of times.
Apart from that, very happy with the services and food. Dish prices are a bit high for a casual lunch, this place is only for informal celebration of special occasions.

looks good, but eat terrible. I order the fried rice with the sea food. But the sprawn is really bad that I can feel the sand in the sprawn. And there is only one sprawn in my frined 's plate for $22???? The service is terrible that the waitress looks really annoying about us. what?????

We enjoyed a nice tapas lunch here yesterday. The staff were helpful and friendly, the service was quick and the food was really nice. They offer a good selection of wines but unfortunately we only had time for one glass. The place has tables inside and out with a back section that leads into the Vic Market food court. A great place for lunch!

Just had dinner with my sister in law at this intimate little Spanish restaurant and wow! We were both extremely impressed with everything, from the friendly service to the amazing food and sangria. Definitely will be coming back to this little piece of heaven when back in Melbourne! Thank you El Rincon ❤️

Average food, not really authentic quality Spanish.
I ordered a margarita they wanted to make it with solo lemon???Waiter was sweet, but service was slow, considering it was not busy.
A real shame.

Delicious authentic food, wine and beer. Great atmosphere and staff were very accommodating even with our large loud group who stayed for 3 hours! We were just too happy to move! Highly recommend

We were walking around the market to get coffee and got lucky because this small place was open. A friendly staff greeted and seated us. Tables were to small for four people eating together using those big plates so one of us moved.

We ordered bf menu which basically consists of eggs. They turned out to be good although nothing is special. My eggs were slightly overdone. My friend ordered lamb and he said it was good. Their coffee is good too.

Excellent service and attentive wait staff!
El Rincon is the real deal for authentic Spanish Tapas, Alcohol and Meals. I enjoyed this fantastic Sandwich made by the young chef, it was a full flavoured experience of chargrilled eggplant, capsicum and fantastic Salmarejo to top it off.
The decor was stunning with imported Spanish tiles coating the walls and warm lighting showing off the grand Salvador Dali artwork. It's a show stopper.
The lovely manager Adriana came and spoke to me which made for an even better experience! What a warm helpful person, helping me with meal and wine choices as well as answering my endless questions about the stunning decor.
It was the most perfect end on what was a cold rainy day and I can't wait to come back to experience the rest of the endless menu!
Please visit this Melbourne gem the next time you are on Elizabeth st! You won't be disappointed!
Patri
Very disappointing lunch this time round- they are now taking shortcuts that have reduced their quality of food drastically, e.g. their raciones were mostly served on a thin layer of salmorejo and now they spread it on a dry olive bread with the chosen racione on top. This makes the salmorejo taste dry an flavourless. The aioli is now some disgusting sour-cream like adaptation (no egg) which is nothing like aioli or even mayonnaise. Their jamon did not have the sweetness of what we expected from an jamon aged for 18 months. Their bacalao was so salty, it was inedible. Extremely disappointing- we used to love it because of its authenticity but won't be going back!

I regularly walk past this place and decided to try it out one day. It's a little restaurant but has a lot of food to offer. It opens late and you can go here for some drinks - there is a varied wine selection. The is a lot on the menu but the waiter gave us suggestions of popular dishes. They also gave us free tapas at the start of our meal :) the boquerones (anchovies) were my favourite, followed by the croquettes. Black Forest cake was dry and garlic prawns were okay. Overall fun and intimate restaurant, can't wait to try more Spanish tapas there 😊

Absolutely beautiful. Everything hit the mark; authentic delicious food, incredible selection of drinks, beautiful decor and astonishing customer service. We went the week they first opened & promised ourselves we would go back as they were so impressive even after a few days. Nothing has changed. They are still as lovely and passionate about everything they do even though they have been opened for a while now.

To Management:
We wish you amazing success... you deserve it! EVERYBODY we met was so lovely, it is an amazing atmosphere & you made us really welcome... thank you. You really know excellence!

This is my new favourite place. This quaint Spanish Tapas and Wine bar is close to the Queen Victoria Market and oozes with style, warmth and ambience. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and I would have stayed there for much longer, had I not had work to got to in the morning. Yummy tapas and wines went down extremely well.

El Rincon is a Spnaish place in Queen Victoria Market. It has been opened for a few months now and already they are starting to see customers in the late afternoon. Here most people love a drink and free tapas. I had heard good things from Gastrology bloggers about them and so wanted to give them a go. And give them a go I did. The manager and the wait staff seemed very friendly to their customers so I recommend my readers give them a go. And they seemed to know Spanish cuisine.

Enjoyed a very tasty and delicious dinner last thursday night at El Rincon. Great food, service and ambience. Would highly recommend to anyone.

My husband and I thought we would have lunch here today.. never going back the food was awful and the staff were arrogant and rude. The older gentleman who worked there stared at me the whole time making me feel very uncomfortable.

Generally forgiving of poor service, especially if the food is worth it - but unfortunately didn't get that far. Walked in and stood there awkwardly unacknowledged for a few minutes. Were finally taken to our table (by which I mean, someone gestured to a vacant table outside). After considering the menu for a few minutes, then sat there for 10 minutes waiting for our order to be taken. Eventually wandered back inside and enquired as to whether we should be ordering at the counter (already knew the answer, of course), whereupon a different young man gestured outside and said he would be out to take our order. (As an aside, if these people could take an order as well as they can forcefully point outside it would be Victoria's most efficient establishment). Unfortunately, the young man gave false hope - 10 minutes later he was still inside, gleefully dispensing bread rolls without the slightest hint of coming outside to take our order. After a few more minutes of trying to look conspicuous, we left. I suppose you don't need repeat business when you're in one of Melbourne's top tourist destinations.

Awesome food and super friendly staff. I wanted to try some of the squid ink flavoured paella and they prepared some for me. Also, my kids eat only plain food 😣 so I asked for a steak and chips and they made it. More importantly my two little boys had fun and we could enjoy our meals and wine. Gracias!!!!

The little place is so cosy and beautiful with amazing food thats very authentic. The staff is absolutely stunning and the friendliest I've encountered in a long time. Our little boys had a ball and loved the food and the beaitiful waitresses who got hugs and kisses on the way out. We will definitely be back.

El Rincón is by far the most authentic Spanish restaurant I visited in Melbourne. Located next to Queen Victoria Market, this little gem has the best tapas and pintxos in Melbourne and at affordable prices. The sizes of the Tapas are generous, the food is delicious. The friendly staff is the cherry on top!! Thanks Maika and Carlos for your great service! Definetely coming back soon.

Such a nice place in the heart of the city! It really reminds me of Spain! The best croquettas and the best sangria in Australia so far. We had 5 tapas with some sangria with 2 people and i don't need food for at least half a day. I definitely be back here. Melbourne people should definitely try the REAL Spanish food! Thanks carlos and his staff for the awesome service!

Victoria Street right next to Victoria Market is the go to place if you want some cosy venues with great food this is the street to be on. Now, there’s a new bad boy that’s opened for 5 months or so and they’re serving authentic Spanish Tapas and they’re tucked away so you just need to keep your eyes opened. Right next to Victoria Market stands El Rincon, it’s quaint, it’s cosy and it’s full of personality.

What a discover!!! I just found the most authentic spanish place in Melbourne if not in Australia. They have a great selection of tapas and wines. You can feel the spanish spirit as soon as you get in. The music, the awesome staff, the atmosphere... make you feel like you are over there. The tapas are really generous for what you pay and for every beer, sangria or wine you get free food!!! Good job guys did a great job. I will go regularly to this place for sure.

Incredible service, amazing food and extremely pleasant environment. The atmosphere is enhanced by the perfect selection of music!
Carlos and Nil, our servers were so much fun and ready to explain and educate us on the menu and drinks selection and quick with a quip!
Can't wait to come back and highly recommend to any one - definitely my new local!! A++++

Great food, great service, beautiful wines and awesome service from Carlos. Definitely worth repeated visits. One for locals and visitors to Melbourne. Perfect for large night snacks. If you love Spanish food then this is the place to be. Also they have Sangria on tap! It's like being back in Barcelona!

First time here ! Lovely place. Carlos was working and he is brilliant. Telling us about the specials. Lovely food and a couple of small complimentary dishes! A quiet time in the evening. But I suspect this place can get packed out. Great vibe, great food and great wine! And 2 seconds from the world famous Queen Victoria Markets! Lovely!

Excellent place to grab a little bite of Spain. The "Gallega Octopus" and the "Spanish Tortilla" were amazing! Don't hesitate to try this restaurant.

Great place for tappas! Love the wine especially and very friendly service from Carlos and Ana the chef! Will definitely be a regular here!!

We love this place. In the morning for an espresso and omelette, or the evening for sherry, tapas, or a delicious meal. So authentic, makes us think we are in Madrid again! Carlos is a great and enthusiastic host. Look forward to learning so much more about sherry. :-)

Passing by and saw a sign for sangria on tap... why not stop. I'm beyond happy that we did. Outstanding service! Positive and welcoming vibe! Food is on another level; orgasm worthy. El Rincón you are on another level! Thank you to the beautiful people here. A must visit!!!!!
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Melbourne’s favourite central food market is home to an array of multi-cultural cuisines, and El Rincon brings Spanish to the table. It’s part of the Queen Vic Market food court, but you won’t find bain maries here. Dishes are cooked to order, many according to family recipes, such as their grandmother’s sangria recipe which is so popular that it’s now trademarked under the Running Bull Sangria brand. It’s the sort of food the chefs grew up with back in Spain, and dishes haven’t been altered to suit the local palate, keeping in line with their philosohpy of serving authentic Spanish cuisine.

We stumbled into el Rincon needing coffee after the overload of the markets & had so much more! The tapas menu is extensive offering many tapas classics. The jamon was delicious & the calamari so melt in the mouth tender. Sitting at the counter eyeing the flan & sipping sangria was a Spanish delight & combined with the fabulous music & Spanish personalities we found it a wonderful experience! Don't forget the croquettes- eat some!!

Good food, lots of variety and good vegetarian options. Great service (thanks Carlos!) attentive without being overbearing. Listen to Carlos when he says how much food to get, we got more than he suggested and it was a lettle too much. Lovely, lovely sherries!
Penguineats
We have received repeated requests from restaurant management insisting for the “small portion sizes” comment be removed. They also insisted that the items served that evening were Pintxos and not Tapas, except all email correspondences as well as communication by wait staff on the night indicated they were serving Tapas.
Given the dishonesty of restaurant management, I cannot in good conscience recommend any readers to visit.
Melbourne Culinary
El Rincon, literally translating to "the corner", in reference to the location of the restaurant by Melbourne's Queen Victoria Market, is a small Spanish restaurant, cafe and bar which has recently opened in the CBD. As well as boasting one of the largest collections of sherry in Melbourne, the restaurant is uniquely Spanish in regards to the different aspects of the restaurant, ranging from not only their food, but also their decor and even the tiles.
Aggie Koczwara
I highly recommend Eiir El Rincon a top class restaurant that offers REAL Spanish food served the traditional way with Sangria. The food was gourment tapas style, absolutely delicious and perfect for sharing for those that like to try a bit of everything. The atmosphere is great, cosy and European. We came in for a quick meal and ended up with 5 meals and dessert. I would like to give a special shout out to Carlos who looked after us very well and offered friendly conversation.
YUM! We'll be back!
The New Fave
El Rincon is a new tapas bar located near the Queen Victoria Market. Offering authentic Spanish cuisine, it's not hard to feel as though you may actually be sipping on Sangria in Spain as soon as you walk through El Rincon's doors. There are two important things to note about El Rincon. The first is that they have Sangria on tap, that's right, on tap - and it's absolutely delicious. The second (which is just as important as the first), is that El Rincon would have to have one of the best croquettes I've had in Melbourne. Rich, gooey, and full of flavour, the croquette with jamon serrano and choriza was fried to perfection.
Gastrology
El Rincón is an authentic Spanish Tapas bar located in the heart of the Queen Victoria Market. The restaurant boasts a large range of premium Australian and Spanish wines to match its traditional Spanish meals and tapas offering which is inspired by the streets of Southern Spain. Walking into El Rincón, patrons are immediately welcomed with genuine warmth. We couldn’t resist imbibing in the House Special Sangria which went down a treat with the food (we left our menu choices in the hands of the restaurant and were not disappointed).
FOOD TRIP
El Rincon is a beautiful little Spanish tapas wine bar located in the Queen Victoria markets. Everything they do here is authentic and based on tradition. From the elegant décor to their secret family recipe sangria, thought and consideration was put into every aspect of this restaurant. Perfect for a bite to eat after work or just for some drinks and to relax. The staff are warm and inviting, treating visitors with the same manner as they would welcome a family member.

Can't beat freshly squeezed orange juice - on the house! Breakfast was very tasty and excellent customer service. Lovely little spot looking out on the cold and rainy Melbourne weather. Good spot for a coffee- which was also very good.

Viva El Rincon! what an amazing evening to mark my 30th birthday :) This place is full of character , sophistication and delecious wine. My tastebuds went on a journey through south of Spain...& it was fun too! The owners absolutely love what they do and do what they love ♡ Ill be back soon! Anna

This place has a very cosy and feel to it and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is simple, but very tasty. This is a great place to come down to get an authentic Spanish meal at great value for money.

The food is awesome and huge portion! Love the interior and atmosphere. Staffs are warm, friendly and super nice! Definitely coming back again and highly recommended!

Finally a Spanish place that doesn't sell boring paella!

Great authentic Spanish food, large portions and incredibly reasonably priced!! (Mains under $20) Randomly stumbled across this place after doing my weekly grocery shopping at vic market. It's now my favourite place to bring people to, not only for the good food and nice ambiance, but for the great customer service that transports you to the heart of Spain.

I love the spanish chicken, breakfast mains, tapas, and the San Marcos cake, the good thing about the desserts here is that it isn't all that sweet. Also love the fact that coffees also come with a free biscuit that is all made in-house!
