Review Mahn Doo - Melbourne

Stephanie K
Do take note of their restaurant sign being renamed. Izakaya minami, not Mahn doo. We got a bit lost/confused. They do all their dishes really well. Scanning the menu, it's fusion in the sense of it being Japanese inspired or Korean dishes that are uniquely elevated! I will make it a goal to try everything here. Everything looks enticing. Their assorted sushi platter is one of the best... that's insane to me -very fresh. The wagyu dish wowed the entire table. I know there are different wagyu grades but I've never had wagyu that's so seasoned well or maybe the way they cook it or it being that thick, juicy marbling .. I don't know but you MUST ORDER THIS. If you're in the mood to try innovative korean dishes, Mahn doo will heighten your senses. Along with the attentive, sweet service by all the waitresses, I'm surprised that they don't get the hype and recognition they truly deserve. 👏

Really great food and staff are very attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend to book this place because after 10 minutes of arrival it got super busy. Would totally come back!

This place is so neat and i loved it here. This is a genuine Korean restaurant in Melbourne. There is no reason not to love Mahndoo.

A five-star restaurant! Fantastic service and food. All the ingredients are fresh and clean, everything is flavourful. Will definitely come back again with my partner.

EXCELLENT FOOD, GOOD SERVICE - A GREAT OVERALL EXPERIENCE A group of about 40 of us dined in for lunch. The restaurant managed to accomodate us with no fuss and no delays :) The menu is typically Korean and the food ingredients are very high quality. Despite the large group, the restaurantt was not particularly noisy and other customers weren't crowded out, There is a decent drinks list (wines, beers, spirits). People with mobility issues will be fine here as it is all on one level floor and there is room at tables for a wheelchair. The best dish? Probably the eggplant and wagyu beef!

Dinner was delicious and great value for money. The service was outstanding. A staff member noticed we weren’t too confident in using chopsticks and he gave us forks. Mahn doo have a smart waiter service where at the push of a button, a staff member will be at the table within seconds. I think this should be at every restaurant. The waiters were very attentive and respectful. The atmosphere was very welcoming and comforting. It wasn’t too noisy or crowded.

My korean wife and I both agreed pork kimchi dumpling may not be the best... it may be that kimchi was not seasoned well with the cabbage (or was it even kimchi present?). Despite all that, the mando was fresh and well presented. Kimchi jigae unfortunately was lacking taste, kimchi used for the jigae was not riped (sour) enough to make the dish work. Side dishes provided was decent. Service was good, adequate staff to handle tables on Sat evening. It's quite average for what we had. Probably the octopus pork dish may be better - our neighbouring table ordered and it looked good.

Beautiful food, full of spices and taste. Very nice venue with fake my darker environment. Fantastic service and fabulous alcohol.

This place was the highlight of our weekend with firstly great staff whom were friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic with dumplings to start then grill for Main with very prompt service of food even though place was extremely busy. Will be going back for sure & would recommend for larger groups and families also.

Mahn Doo is gorgeous upscale Korean restaurant located in the CBD. The venue is very chic and sophisticated, with high ceilings, romantic dim lighting and even a nice “sunroom”-like area where the ceiling is made of glass. Despite being a big group, we were very well accommodated for by all the staff and owner.

We started off with Steamed Pork and Kimchi Pork Dumplings which were really nice. The skin was thin, and the filling was flavourful.

The Seafood Pancake and Potato Pancake were both really good. I was actually really impressed with the potato one - super crispy, and soft on the inside. The seafood one could’ve been crispier and more generous with the seafood, but flavours were on point.

The Whole Fried Chicken is definitely a must here! This was probably the table favourite. The chicken is fried very well - very crispy and not-too-thick batter, and incredible tender juicy chicken inside. It’s served with a delightful honey mustard sauce which goes perfectly with the chicken. We actually got a piece of chicken that was raw on the inside, and they were kind enough to take it back and make us a whole new batch - so really good customer service!

The Jap Chae was not bad, but not much of a wow-factor either. It’s a good portion size though, and it’s not overly sweet like some places.

For the mains, we had the Spicy Chicken Bulgogi, Spicy Baby Octopus and Pork Belly BBQ, and Ginseng Chicken Soup.

The chicken bulgogi was super delicious, and there was a nice variety of ingredients. I would highly recommend adding the extra stir fried rice at the end, which was the highlight of the dish!

The pork belly and octopus bbq was delicious too - it’s sweeter than the bulgogi one but the pork belly is very tender, fatty and delicious. Best with rice!

The ginseng soup was the least impressive of the 3. It tasted just like an ordinary chicken soup, not anything special. Also note that none of the mains come with rice, you have to order it separately.

For drinks, we tried the Pineapple and the Peach Rice Wine, and a Korean Rice Wine. Although the peach was recommended, I couldn’t really taste any peach flavour and it was just like a lightly sweet drink. However the pineapple one had a nice strong taste of pineapple. The cocktails taste really light and don’t have much alcohol. Note that their Korean wines & sojus and not available on Zomato Gold - only the soft drinks, tea and beers.

Overall, we did have a really good time at Mahn Doo. Despite being on the “pricier” end of Korean dining, it was still very affordable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

I came in early as they opened, very quiet - so I could take lots of great photos of the interior space. I am amazed by those food - I thought it would taste so so because the owner might spend too much on the decorations; it turns out that all the food is made from fresh materials and tastes really good because the Chief doesn’t put too many seasoning and keep the original flavour of the ingredients 💗

Probably not the most memorable of lunches, but maybe we didn't order the right things? We thought the service was a little slow until we realized that there was an inset call button at the end of the table. We ordered off the Lunch Menu. We ordered all three types of Pan Fried Dumplings, which seemed to taste very similar, plus the Fried Rice Cakes. Things got a little confused, as our main meals came out first (quite promptly) and we had to send them back, and waited for the Entrees. We had the Spicy Chicken BBQ, and the Sweet & Spicy Calamari BBQ which were served with rice and side dishes of Kimchi and a small Salad. The Calamari was a little rubbery. We also had a Stone Bowl Bimbim Bab of Beef and Vegetables with fired egg on top. The food was tasty enough but nothing special. The place was quite busy for a Friday lunch, and once we found out about the call button, the service and food delivery was quite fast.

The food was delicious :P seating was very comfortable and the service was excellent 😁😁 highly recommend will definitely be back for more 😁😁 their peach rice wine are the best 😁😁

3.5
This was a great meal! We didn’t feel like bbq or steamboat type food and were a little worried that we’d be left with little choice, but what we ordered was perfect and plentiful. Started with the crispy school prawns which were ok but probably could have used a dipping sauce (or even some soy sauce). The pork dumplings were amazing. Best dish for me. The zucchini pancake closely followed. The beef bulgogi was also a generous serving. Overall, a really good meal and as a bonus, they’re on EatClub!

A short walk away from Flagstaff, Mahn Doo is incredibly accessible and spacious.

Ordered:
🍲 Set A: kimchi korean pancake, vegetarian jap chae, seafood and beef rib soup + meat, 4 bowls of rice ($140.00)
🥩 Wagyu Steak BBQ: wagyu steak cooked in Korean stone pan ($60.00)
🍣 Wagyu beef sushi (8 pcs): wagyu beef slices on Japanese style sushi rice ($25.00)

Review:
Mahn Doo is very nice. The service is attentive, and the waitress helps to cook and distribute your meat for you. She even asked how we like our steak to be cooked!

Highlight dishes: wagyu steak and vegetarian japchae. Steak was so amazing that I wished we ordered more - tender, juicy and delicious. The vegetarian japchae was full of flavour and was very easy to eat.

Mahn doo is a kbbq place where meat isn't the main focus. There's a limited number of items and all with unique variations. Very interesting!

Such a great first experience at Mahn doo! The food was great, and as usual my friend and I definitely over-ordered ! It’s hard when you want to try everything and don’t have the stomach space to fit it all. The kimchi pancake was crispy on the outside and had a good texture in the middle. Pan fried pork dumplings were delicious and juicy, as well as the boneless friend chicken. Lastly the Korean ‘Army stew’ was such great hot dish to warm up the Melbourne winter night. Definitely a memorable soup!

Korean style food always good. Nice customer service for us. Hopefully, you guys try this shop no matter what coz too good !! I will back soon

Casual Korean dining

The place is pretty spacious, surrounded by glass walls. Been here a few times at night so it was a bit dim creating a relaxing ambiance.
The chair we sat on was not as comfortable though, as it is a wooden bench. Service here is better than other Korean restaurants. The staffs are well trained, some speaks good english and are very friendly. Empty plates are almost immediately taken away, and it's not hard to call someone up.

Beef bibimbap was generous and not dry which we loved. Meat was tasty, and all of the components matched well. Sauce given was also not too spicy and has a good balance of salty and sweet.

Zucchini pancake was legit the best korean pancake I've had. Crispy on the outside but moist on the inside and not too doughy. Decent portion, can be more generous.

Beef bulgogi was great, meat was tender and well marinated, not dry. Lots of vegs which had great texture. Decent portion but can be more generous meat wise.

Fried chicken was pretty good, flavor was there and wasn't oily. Only thing was the batter was not crispy, a shame really. Portion was decent.

Seafood silken tofu stew was great, tofu was silky, and flavor was just right. Not too spicy and has the umami flavour from the seafood. Pretty generous.

Their pork and kimchi bibimbap was a surprise though. It was literally pork and kimchi on rice, with a sunny side up on top. I thought it was going to be the usual bibimbap but i think i misunderstood the menu. Nonetheless the pork belly were nice and tender, not too fatty and kimchi was sort of stir fried, bit to the sourish side than sweet. Flavor was okay but i way prefer my ol complete bibimbap.

Japchae was pretty good however a bit small in portion.

Miso soup which was decent.

Lastly the were five side dishes and all were delicious as they complimented the dishes really well. I especially like the macaronis and silk tofu. (refillable)

Overall a great place for a nicer Korean dining experience with just a tad bit higher price tag.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.
Quince And Cheese
You don't often see vegetarian barbecue sets but they serve them here. Despite being tempted by the stone bowl, I knew the set was the way to go as it comes with assorted side dishes. The silken tofu was a nice addition, and the kimchi and macaroni salad were also top contenders. The veg themselves were super saucy but not bad. Rice serve was a bit small, in my opinion. I also got a side of sweet fried rice cake which were perfect - large serve, chewy but not too hard to chew, topped with crushed peanuts. Ambiance is a bit odd but food is worth visiting for.

Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

On a overall, a good experience for have dinner on an incredible restaurant.

The food: I ordered the braised beef short ribs with soy sauce, and I recommend this dish for two people. I just recommend the restaurant to advertise the costumer the dish takes a long time (I took me 30 minutes on a not rush day). The beef was so tender! But I had to order rice as extra because the dish as itself is too strong

The service and restaurant: the service is not so friendly unfortunately, but the manager is lovely and tries his best to make you have the best experience. The restaurant is incredible and fancy and giant! I just loved it!

The price: the price was $46 and the rice was $3.

Staff were very friendly and the food was good. Flavours were all there although the basil in their spicy chicken bulgogi was alittle over powering. I would come back and try others on the menu.

We arrived a few minutes late but our table was all set and ready. Unfortunately they’d not got the note I made on the booking about a highchair request - but we managed around it. They could have moved another booking around if we had needed. We let our friends lead the way on ordering as they are the Korean food fans. We went with chefs menu B. It was well priced and the food came out in good portions, hot and tasty. We opted for two sweet dishes and one spicy. Though I found the sweet to be a little too sweet for my personal taste, it was still good. The iced tea was too sweet tho and I didn’t drink it. I’m told the kimchi was good and that it passed their standards. I was happy with the food, staff and service also.

Went here for my birthday recently with a group of friends. Service was quite diligent, friendly and professional. I liked the addition of the buttons for a customer's convenience, rather than having to wave your hand in the air to attract the waiter's attention. Overall, the food was quite good. A little on the pricey side of things, and the Beef Hot Pot BBQ shared dish I ordered had slightly too much excess juice, and not enough meat and vegetables (when compared to other Korean BBQ establishments where you can place how much meat/vegetables on a grill and a unique drip container on the side to collect any excess juice/moisture). The atmosphere was very nice, the bathrooms were well cleaned and the decor looked quite modern and new.

Not a bad Korean eatery! We ordered their soondubu and spicy pork BBQ. Food was average, kimchi was quite nice. Staff were also quite friendly.

After seeing positive reviews for this place on zomato and discovering they offer dakgalbi - a dish we haven't been able to find since leaving Korea - we decided to have dinner at Mahn Doo.
We were greeted by smiling staff which graciously showed us to our seats. The service is something to be commended here as the staff we interacted with were lovely. My mum even struck up conversation with the lady making our dinner table side.
We began with their kimchi and pork dumplings, which were the highlight of the entire meal (probably should've expected so based on the name of the restaurant). Served with a bowl of soy sauce each with optional chilli flakes, the dumplings had a thin wrapping with flavourful filling. Probably the best kimchi pork dumplings we've had in Melbourne.
Our main course of dakgalbi (or spicy chicken barbecue as it's called on the menu in English) arrived next and was cooked on the stove on our table. Though it didn't come with cheese (much to my mum's disappointment, who immensely enjoyed the cheese-covered versions eaten in Korea) the flavour was very reminiscent of dakgalbi we'd eaten in Korea. It was slightly sweet for our palates, however quite decent overall. We also ordered the fried rice that's made in the same pan with any leftover pieces and additional kimchi and perilla leaves. The lady cooking our rice spread it out so it covered the bottom of the pan to make the rice crisp, after hearing of our taste for such. It was a great way to end the meal.
The side dishes served, though small, were quite nice, the standouts being the kimchi, bean shoots and tofu with soy sauce. The freshness was a nice addition to the meal.
Overall, the friendly and speedy service coupled with the standard of the food and roomy interior of the restaurants makes us excited to return to try some of the other dishes at Mahn Doo.

This restaurant is amazing. The structure is gorgeous, the food which is delicious. The food I ordered were kimchi stew, fried mini prawns and spicy squid with pork belly. The customer service is pretty good as well. I give it a 5 star!

One of the joys of strolling around hungry in Melbourne is that you're never far away from good food. I stumbled across this place and was in absolute heaven.
The kimchi fresh flavoured food is something to behold. You must try the beef rib soup despite being a little bit salty. However, everything else I tried was superb. Have been back three times now.
Staff are excellent. So helpful and happy to tweak your order for dietary reasons.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking? Well you know how it is.
Will return.
Linda
I have not been to a place that dishes up quicker than these guys!! The food was good. Portions generous. Authentic and delicate flavours. Not overly creative and lacking that additional kick of excitement though...
Li Lisa
Can’t believe I did not discover this restaurant earlier when I used to walk pass by it so often.
Can tell it is a great place by its kimchi- crunchy, fresh, well balanced flavour.
The Manh doo was also very nice.
Beef rib soup- the beef rib was very tender and easy to eat. The only downside is, the soup was salty.
Will come back to try the bbq!

Came here with my boss for drinks xD. We had 6 bottles of soju i think? (cant remember) hahha. Had some fried chicken and dumplings, it was very nice. The staff are really nice and the owner was friendly even we are drunk. But i can't really comment on the food because we only had entree snacks. Sorry guys
Food : 4/5
Decor : 5/5
Service : 4/5

BBQ octopus and pork belly was divine! Filling, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat.
Although, I was sort of hoping for more of a hands-on Korean bbq experience, but the waiters do practically everything for you.

Her's: Pretty solid korean food here. Had the army stew, dumplings and other yum dishes. The side dishes were also great too...so do ask for refills!

Would recommend as a nice place for groups and when you're craving quality korean food!

His: tasty food, warm service, and generous servings.

If you want some good authentic Korean food I wouldn’t recommend you this restaurant. We order the $140 set for 4person, it’s not worth the value at all. For this price , you can go to many other Korean restaurant and better quality than this restaurant and definitely cheaper! The waitress thr are not attentive, when taking our orders, she’s not giving any response at all, end up giving us wrong beverages. Very disappointed, wouldn’t going back!

Excellent service, food & overall dining experience. Gorgeous venue. Attentive staff. Delicious food. Some confusion between staff about whether of not the desserts were available- they were but 2 of 3 waiters who attended us after we pressed the “buzzer” said no desserts were in stock. Since they’d been replenished the day before, Saturday evening staff should have been aware. Regardless, they couldn’t have been more helpful. And every mouthful was a delight.
FlikTeoh
Disappointed with the foods. Service was ok. But the taste of everything was far away from good. The beef rib soup was horrible, tasted like it was just beef ribs boiled with salt water and only cooked the moment you ordered it.

I was very impressed with Mahn Doo. For years now I have been trying to find a Korean restaurant that is of the same high standard as Miss Korea in Camberwell. Finally I found it. I tried various dishes - Korean dumplings, zucchini and kimchi pancakes and bulgogi. All were of high standard. Wine is also served generously as well.

Only downside was the dessert selection. The menu has three stunning looking desserts. We all wanted to try the pink tiramisu but this dessert and another pretty dessert was sold out and we were not interested in the other dessert option. I found it weird that they had already sold out of these desserts. We were in at 6:30pm, it was fairly quiet yet most of their desserts sold out. Perhaps they had an overly busy lunch service. Please up your game in the dessert department...

Also, Minced Beef BBQ was an interesting concept however a bit plain but was worth ordering for the tasty kimchi and mac and cheese side dishes.

Been here for two times and my experience for both visits were really good.

Mahn Doo provided a good environment with fairy lights, private tables in booth and spacious seats.

The staffs were always friendly and helpful, they even helped us to cook. Would recommend their original fried whole chicken if you like original chicken, you could not miss it.

I really like one of their side dishes which is the tofu, I think it is their signature side dish where I don’t see other Korean restaurants serve that.

Will recommend couples to go on romantic date here, and I’m sure you won’t leave disappointed.

It's a coincidence for us to eating Korea foods. It's just so so. But if u want to try ,I think u can do it. I like more of korea's BBQ . But it's not a bad choice to eat here.
Lachlan Mos
Had the first kimchee soup in my life here. It was yummy. The sweet -spicy fried chicken was so good. Can’t help myself from eating it. Love it so muchhhhh

To those who are considering to choose Mahn Doo, I would highly recommend you not to visit until you know the premises is clean.

I saw a rat at the end of the shop and
reported to the staff. There was no apology much less compensation. The staff also said they caught one before and was common to see the rat in melbourne. It is common for rats to be on the streets and I am sure they are not supposed to be in a restaurant. I have already reported this case to the relevant authorities in melbourne and awaiting for action to be taken.

I always wanted to try Mahn Doo but it looked so posh and exxy on the outside I got a bit scared. But when my friend suggested to go there, I thought, why not?

Turns out, they have lunch specials that are very reasonable. Her bimbimbap was $12 and my silken tofu seafood stew was $14 and it tasted so delish!!! Unlike normal Korean resto though they don't give a lot of side dishes and whatever they gave they didn't see if we wanted refills.
Leroy Jenkins
While they do have a wide selection of dishes nothing really stands out as amazing. For example we ordered the pig's feet and mackerel and both seemed like they were reheated frozen or precooked foods. There are better Korean options in the city.
Lee
Very nice atmosphere, warm and slightly sophisticated. The lighting make it very romantic, and the staff are quick with service (very distant however, with the sense of professionalism still lingering).

If you talk about korean dumpling, this will be one of the best i ever had. It taste just right and nice texture of the dumpling's skin.
As for their other dish, i did try some of them, but i don't think they were what i like though.

Spacious, classy upmarket traditional Korean.

Been here numerous times with older Koreans who adore this place, if you are after a soju guzzling, cheap and cheerful place then DO NOT come here. This place actually has a manager on the floor that looks like a manager. Food, top notch from their soups, stews and hot pots it all holds their own to similar upmarket restaurants in Korea (I'm particularly impressed with their beef tail soup)
Staff are what you can expect, the usual student/working holiday but they are observant and polite. Manager is also quite nice and well mannered.
Melbourne Food Journey
I've been here a few times, each time the food and service are decent. The bulgogi and seafood pancake are not bad at all. This place isn't amazing but it's a solid good option for Korean food.
Chyntia
We had a mixed sausage and kimchi stew, which is delicious. Unlike other kimchi stew, this one is less concentrared and taste lighter. Moreover, the place is pretty fancy compare to other Korean restaurant with similar price range

Wow, what a fantastic experience my friends and I had here! Service was quick and friendly.

We ordered the pan fried beef dumplings, kimchi pancake, Korean fried chicken with sweet chilli and a beef bulgogi share dish.

Everything was just spot on. The dumplings were amazing and crispy, the pancake was so crispy but soft on the inside, the chicken was delicious and the bulgogi, which was cooked in front of us at our table was so damn good. Add a jug of beer and a bottle of soju and our feast worked out to roughly $45 each with 3 people. Oh, and the interior designis really modern and cosy too.

I will definitely be back. I can't wait.

Edit: went back already. Ordered the same again except for the bulgogi as there was only two of us. Pic is missing korean fried chicken with sweet chilli. Was fantastic again!

The environment and atmosphere are very good, the lunch menu is quite cheap. I just spend $10 for getting a stone blow rice and those lovely atmosphere, is worth
Debby
Place is spacious. Plenty of seatings with booth area too. Service was great and very friendly however they helped us cook our stew and left without adivising us when its ready to eat which created a confusion. The food was average. You could better korean cuisine with cheaper price.
Who Loves Good Food
Impressive interiors. Friendly Korean hospitality. We started with the steamed pork dumplings presented on a steamer tray, they were lovely & converted our panfried dumpling diehards. The pancakes were crispy. Fried chicken were ok. The flounder was a real surprise. We also had bibimbap, bulgogi & other favs. Definitely recommend!

Points for: modern, classy Korean dining
Dine Time: Weekend dinner

Manh Doo aims for the classier end of casual Korean dining, with it's dark modern & spacious dining room, and comfortable seating.

The menu is quite authentic and it's rare to find Korean style steamed dumplings in Melbourne, obviously why it's named Manh Doo. These are quite delicious and you could probably down 4 easily.
The jeon pancakes are crispy with chunky ingredients - thumbs up, unlike some that are thin and floppy. The potato pancake is like a crispy hash brown, pretty addictive.

Koreans have a soft spot for the spicy chicken BBQ (dduk kal bi), followed by frying rice in the same pan afterwards. It's an incredibly heavy but somehow even the smallest Korean girl can put it all away. Damn. The second time I had this, the waitress didn't fry the rice long enough - seemed like she needed the portable gas stove.

Everything is made with care and extra attention, and the portions are generous. A good number of side dishes are also served and these can always be topped up.
Elly Leung
Most horrible Hot stone rice ever had! The veggie seasoning is quiet salty and the most ridiculous thing is the rice is cold in the hot pot! Very disappointed. Never expect that such an authentic Korean restaurant would go wrong in this basic dish.
Lynn Lynn
Came here on a Saturday night (made a booking) with a group of 5, and we were very impressed! The staff were really friendly, and food was of course very good!
Jess
Customer service of this place is really good. Everyone is so friendly and polite. One thing that got me a little confused was that when we ordered our food, it didn't come with rice. Usually with other places it would and their menu is quite small so there isn't much to choose from. The one thing I like about this place is that their tables are pretty big so you don't feel so cramped when you're eating like other Korean places. Their pork bone soup is great though 👌🏼

We went here as a group of 4 and I couldn't be happier with the choice. We ordered a couple of entrées and mains to share, finishing with desserts and it came to about $50 a head. Highlights include the fried chicken, potato pancake and the spicy chicken bbq. Considering how much food came to the table and how tasty it all was the cost was very reasonable. The service was very attentive and ambience was also good. I would definitely go back!
Christina Lily
Ambience is great, a bit loud but the same as every where else on a Friday night. Service was great and food also met my expectation. We had the set menu of $140 plus 2 serves of steamed dumplings and 2 jugs of rice wine (pineapple and peach). 5 of us, all full and it costs us about $40/person. My friends were also happy with the chill atmosphere albeit the location is a bit of a walk from the centre of Melbourne CBD but I guess you can always tram it there. Overall, it was a good experience and will definitely come back for more.

Mahn Doo was packed on Friday night so I'm glad I made a booking for two. The restaurant has high ceiling, modern, clean and spacious. I was ushered straight to my table the minute I walked in which has enough room for 4 people. There's a "call" button ok each table for you to get service from the wait staff. Staff are attentive and polite. We ordered the spicy kimchi and pork soup, vegetarian japche, pork shank, mahn Doo red wine and genmai tea. The food is well presented and in good portion. They also served 4 complimentary sides including kimchi, tofu, tofu skin and bean sprout. The use of steel chopsticks and rice bowls adds to the authenticity of Korean dining culture. Lovely place and good service.

Have a simple dinner here and tried the fried flounder and a bibimbap. The restaurant is really nice, polished and spacious. It was also mostly empty on a weeknight. The flounder was excellent. The bibimbap was good but the sauce was usually sweet. I'd probably return to try more of the large menu because it's such a nice restaurant inside.
Iryna Sakhatovska
Have been to Manh Doo two times, tried a few dishes including the Mixed Sausages with Kimchi Stew. Overall I've found the dishes to be tasty, however definitely on the expensive side.
Shelly
I've only been here for lunch and it's a great place to dine. Service is pretty good - waiters are attentive and their bell system works pretty well.

Food is delish. The dumplings and pancakes on the lunch menu are great to share. The meat and rice dishes are quite good too.
Full Time Wholesomeness
A typical genuine Korean BBQ restaurant experience with courteous and pleasing waiters & waitresses. The food were also very tasty. I had the tofu and seafood soup stew with rice. Their kimchi pancake is also worth noting, in which the pancake crust was chewy and glutenous. I highly recommend their rice wine cocktails. The taste is sweet with fresh and fullness of fruity sensation, a layer of foam on top of that bring you dive into a sea of sparkly sweetness just on the tip of your tougue. BEST. RICE. COCKTAIL. YET.

Food were presented well and tasted amazing . Staff were friendly and try that German beer in the menu . I forgot the name of it but it tasted amazing 😌

Amazing food and attentive wait staff! Sweet and sour fried chicken was a standout dish, side dishes were really yummy too. Definitely visit if you love Korean food!

Hidden gem in Melbourne. Nice ambient vibe and excellent service. Definitely one to checkout if you love Korean food. Steamed pork dumplings and the spicy fried chicken is a must.

Used to be a happy customer with their great dumplings...

Sadly just had an extremely disappointing dinner here. Ordered the beef ribs soup and the flounder. When ordering, I was told I would get one rice with the soup. Upon serving the waitress mentioned it didn't come with rice, we were confused and went ahead with another extra rice.

We then found out that they served us the wrong soup! Had to wait another 15 mins just to receive a horrible stew.

They did apologise as the waitress was new but we were expecting slightly better service as we noticed the owner took notice of our situation.

Upon mentioning the inedible beef rib soup, the owner simply quipped oh is it.
Overall, just quite disappointed by the whole experience, quite possibly wont be back either :(
Quinn
Been here for lunch and dinner. Yummy food. The pancake is gold!! It's so different from other Korean restaurant that I've been to. It's thin, super crispy and comes with big portion. Every dish is well seasoned and flavorful. Nice, friendly and attentive staffs. I love the atmosphere and the design of the place. Highly recommend it.

Came here by pure luck. Was walking pass this place and notice bright lights within the restaurant. There were quite a number of people in there which was a plus. When we entered. We were greeted by the friendly manager who took us to our seats. The menu was easy to read and with plenty of photos to show various dishes. I ordered the tofu soup, kimchi pancake and spicy chicken. I would recommend both the kimchi pancake and the chicken. The tofu soup was a little blant so avoid that. The layout of every dish was clean and enticing. I would recommend this place. Will be returning for kbbq next. The waiters are friendly and bubbly even when they are busy.

+: Attentive service staff. Steamed pork dumplings

-: The seafood and beef ribs soup is prepared with pre cooked seafood, so that was rather disappointing
The Morning Kiss
Ok I didn't eat all of these at once, I'm just a regular diner :)))
I'll start with the beef rib soup. It was a super super dish to me. Look simple but delightful, highly recommend for a chilling day. The broth was so light and refreshing, I couldn't stop myself from sipping it. And the ribs, they were cut easily with the spoon. The ribs might be a bit plain but having it with the side dishes was a freaking good idea. It thought it was a bit weird when matching it with pasta but it worked, magically:)) and as you can see I literally emptied the bowl.
I love the seafood pancake, not too greasy, soft, light and the seafood were all well cooked. I took away it but couldn't resist having a couples of bites :P. The sauce coming with it was amazing, a bit alcoholic, sweet, sour, salty and a few slices of chillies to give it that zing.
The dumplings are my third favorite so far. I always had steamed ones so maybe next time I should give the pan fried version a try. I love the soft and thin skin so much, it was satisfying to look at and even more when those dumplings are in your mouth.
The only reason why I cant give a five is their rice. I'm not sure if it's the style but my rice was hard and I didn't like it that way.
Very friendly staff and elegant interior design. I wish they could make the music a better match.
Anyways I will visit them again
Again and maybe again :)))

I can't fault Mahn Doo at all, wonderful service, incredible ambience and decor and wonderful food. Also since i'm a pottery maker i could not help but notice the amazing Celdon they have on display. My friend and I ordered the seafood pajeon and spicy chicken with some makgeolli, perfect for a rainy Melbourne day. The bathrooms were clean and the whole experience there was just amazing. Fresh banchan too! Will definitely return and have recommended to many of those around me to check out this place.
Must Be Hungry
Mahn do is one of the most underrated Korean restaurants in Melbourne. You don't hear much hype around them which is a shame because the food, service and ambiance is wonderful.😄

We came here for a casual after work dinner and had Korean pork stew, zucchini pancake, dumplings, deep fried chicken and seafood stew.😋

Everything was delicious and well presented, making the experience really delicious. 😊
FOOD TRIP
Manh Doo is a Korean eatery located just a bit out of central CBD, but easily walkable. The restaurant itself is spacious and elegant with a great dining atmosphere. Service is convenient with the press of a call button on the table, but the portions of food are quite small and average in flavour. One of my favorite korean reastaurants in Melbourne: the dumplings (mahn doo) are a must have. Seafood panckake, stone bowl rice with kimchi and pork and the marinated thin sliced beef bulgogi. If you're hungry go for the Beef bulgogi and mushrooms BBQ set.

Friendly staff and food tastes good. I like the fried rice cake. It's sweet and spicy but it's Korean Style. For the stone bowl, I must say It's the Best I have ever eaten

Korean food is the pure form of happiness put into food. So obviously Mahn Doo needs to be on the list of restaurants to try. The BBQ here is a bit different as it has a ring of soup with lots of veggies and noodles in it together with a small hill to grill the meat. This let's the fat of the meat drip into the soup which makes everything super tasty. Had this and the hot stone bowl (bibimbap) which is an all time favourite along with some hite beer. The service and look of the restaurant remind more of a higher end dining place - which I didn't expect and felt is was a bit out of place for the standard Korean BBQ fan like me. The music also didn't fit making it a nice but also somewhat confusing experience. This place has definitely more potential and it's recommended for everyone who likes Kfood.

Not sure about this place, I've only been there once. Surprisingly the food were reasonably priced despite its interiors looking like a fine dining restaurant. Don't expect large portions

delicate interior design. Staff are so nice and helpful. kimichi and pork dumplings are so yummy. Spicy chicken and seafood soup taste good as well. But i don't like the pancake, which is not crispy and has a light taste.

Had dinner here!

Ordered a kimchi and pork dumpling to start. And... it was yumm!!! Their dumplings are home made :)

Had a kimchi and pork ribs casserole and it was cooked beautifully! The pork neck was very soft and the meat was very tender.

The sides were also nice, especially the tofu!

Also, we ordered pineaple and rice wine 400ml jugs and it was very nice!! Very recommended to the cider-lover. It was sweet with a bit alcohol-bitter taste in it.

The staffs were very helpful and professional too!

Will come back again to try other food! Heard that the bbq and the bibimbap are also nice :)

What really put me off was the service.
My friend found a small cockroach on the table so she killed it but we still informed the manager about the situation. The manager took the cockroach away but he came back to our table stating that there has never been a cockroach at their restaurant and then told us that the cockroach must have definitely came from us instead. Should you ever blame your customers for situations like these? He didn't even murmured a single 'sorry' and later on looked back at us with a "do you honestly think the cockroach came from our restaurant/disbelief" look.
That happened earlier in the evening and the food that was served before us didn't wow us nor did it make up for the bad service we had.
The food was alright but definitely not something I would crave for and want to come back for again.

I went with a group of friends consisting of 22 people for a birthday dinner. It was a very unpleasant experience as the restaurant manager kept pressuring us to order while we were waiting for the birthday girl to arrive. Even worse, the girls found a cockroach inside on of their cups. When they told the restaurant manager about it showed it to him as proof (one of our friends caught it with a piece of tissue), the restaurant manager simply replied them: "our restaurant has no cockroaches, for all I know it is probably you guys that brought it in". It was ridiculously rude! It was an uneasy and awkward moment for everyone. The worst experience ever from a restaurant manager!!!! Furthermore, according to the trading hours, the restaurant closes at 11pm on Tuesday nights. But at 10pm, the restaurant manager was once again pressuring us to leave the restaurant as they were no customers left, so we had to leave and they closed the restaurant at around 10.15 instead. Overall, the food is decent, but restaurant manager is ridiculously rude. Service was horrible. Will never ever come back to this restaurant again!

Portion of the food is small but the food quality, ambience and service was overall very good! I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

Don't know what all the high ratings are for. The place itself is lovely, staff are friendly but half didn't understand me when I asked for lettuce.also I asked for soy sauce for 2 ppl and they brought out a tiny plate with enough for 3 dips.. we had to request more, twice. Also the tempura calamari was cold and chewy. Our beef Bulgogi although flavour being nice, was definitely not the best I've had. Limited side plates as well. Reasonably priced for what you get but we were really disappointed. Still on the hunt for a different amazing korean bbq place because this certainly is not it.

Beautiful venue, affordable and quality food. Best Korean dumplings!
Staff were helpful and were attentive for our big group of 15 people.
Definitely will be back again for quality Korean food and dumplings!

A hidden gem on La Trobe street! The service is always amazing and the food is tasty and fresh. The Jap che is just deeeelish and one of my fav dishes. The dumplings are the cleanest tasting I've had. Just perfect. Good value for money.

Absolutely fantastic find. I had walked past this restaurant multiple times assuming it was fine dining. One day when willing to splurge I discovered how affordable the menu really was! Arguably one of the best Korean restaurants I have visited in Melbourne, albeit few, this place is definitely under appreciated. I would recommend the hot pots and the steam dumplings.. although you of course have the option to hot plate cook yourself!

Great decoration, spacious restaurant. Portion is rather small, however food were beautifully prepared compare to Korean restaurant standard. Despite full house and busy Friday night, service was pretty quick. If you like your meal not too greasy and more towards clean and healthier meal this is the right place for you. Fried dumpling is more outstanding than the steam one.

Along for lunch in a group of six. I've walk past this restaurant at least once a week and thought it would be nice to try but it looked a little expensive. It wasn't until I checked out the menu that I realised that it was reasonably priced. As you walk in there is a bit of wow factor as it's fairly large inside with a modern yet subtly traditional feel. It's a very clean and well maintained restaurant. We had a booth that was very comfortable for six and it made us feel that we were in a private space to ourselves. Very friendly servers, keen and attentive and a very cool touch is the discrete button on the table to summon assistance - we did push the button and in a flash someone arrived to take our order. As this restaurant is built on dumplings, we ordered a selection of steamed and fried - unfortunately for us they had no pork dumplings for a Friday lunch... very strange! You can get a great meal here for $10 - $15 which is really well priced, the meals themselves were all very well presented, not huge in portion size but they were enjoyable and no one left feeling hungry. The BBQ Chicken and Kimchi Pork were the hits for lunch, my take of chicken schnitzel was also very good. The dumplings that we did order (no pork) were all really good and at 8 for $5 or $6 per server they were also good value. Added to this they have a small but well balanced wine list and we settled for a lovely Montepulciano red to enjoy with our meal. This place is a must return for me, i really enjoyed the entire experience.

THE place for korean dumplings (where the name of the restaurant comes from).

Great lunchtime budget meals, lovely interior, and delicious dumplings.

We had the steamed pork dumplings for entree (brilliant for $5), spicy chicken and marinated beef Bibimbap for the mains. With 2 Asahi, $89. Delicious and generously sized meals. Good atmosphere and great service.

Went here with my cousin on a Tuesday during lunchtime. The atmosphere was really relaxing and fresh, the customer service was very quick and genuine. Some staff members aren't very fluent in English but they are very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and affordable. We tried the fried and steamed " pork and kimchi" mandu and they were delicate and tasty. I had the beef rub stew with sweet potato noodles. It was so flavours and rich yet clear and refreshing at the same time. The broth was perfect for a cold day, like comfort food for the soul. My cousin had the seafood stew and said it was mild and full of mussels and tofu. Each main came along with kimchi and cold pasta sides. Would recommend to others to try. Modern , fresh vibes for a relaxing korean lunch with friends. :)

Work across the Rd and tried this place for the first time on Friday for lunch. Nice restaurant, and tasty but extremely small servings. I ordered the beef stone bowl and there was sooooo little beef. This place isn't like typical korean restaurants, you don't get condiments given to u too (not the stone bowl anyway)...Again, pricey for the portion received. Disappointing....

The baby triplets have been wanting to go on a date with Mr D and myself and finally we were all free for it (YAYERS!). The girlies of course adored Korean food and I wanted to check out Mahn Doo since we’ve always parked next to it and have never gone inside. So this time, we’re heading into Mahn Doo. Mr D and I arrived first and went to get our table. However, due to a mix up, one of the staff gave our table away and the manager was not super duper happy and profusely apologised. Luckily, the place hasn’t filled up yet so they managed to find a booth for us and our night continued on. Each table has a buzzer so you could call the staff without getting up.

Mahn Doo (the name means a kind of Korean dumpling) is a stylish Korean restaurant near the corner of Queen and La Trobe. It features a range of dishes from budget lunchtime rice "stonebowls" to dumplings and Korean BBQs at night. Décor is all high ceilings and industrial-themed (think, dark wood and concrete), tastefully complemented with a bit of greenery. Ok, the food. The spicy pork stonebowl ($10) is a goer; delicious well-seasoned fried pork slices marinated in chilli bean paste and rice in a sizzling hot stonebowl. It also comes with a salad of assorted greens, tomato and tofu. Very basic and on the smaller side but paired with their dumplings (beef, pork or kimchi and pork, steamed or panfried for $5), makes an ample meal. The dumplings were merely OK, but were well-presented and a bargain for $5. The service was also very friendly and welcoming (the manager greets and farewells you at the door) and the food arrived quickly and without fuss. Overall, a very enjoyable experience featuring quality food at very affordable prices, particularly at lunch, in stylish and pleasant surroundings.

Beautifully decorated and set up with great atmosphere. Good service and delicious food. Below features the beef bulgogi & mushroom bbq and the special pork, baby octopus and kimchi bbq. Will definitely be revisiting!!

Don't judge a book by its cover. That's what it's like. Each and every time I walked past this place during lunchtime I had been reluctant to go in just due to the fine dining feel of the venue.

Went in with a large group of people today for the first time and and were pleasantly surprised. The prices were good and reasonable.

The food were mixed but loved the kimchi & pork pan fried dumplings. They were the highlight of what was ordered. I would definitely go back to try other dishes.

We went to mahn doo for my boyfriend birthday. We like trying different cuisines and we decided to try Korean food for the first time. We ordered BBQ chicken and bbq pork. Preparation time was not too long and portions were big with a variety of side dishes like kimchi. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. I also liked the ambience and the feel of the restaurant. Will definitely visit again.
Just Another Foodie
Had dinner here and was pleasantly surprised. It's quite spacious inside with a nice decor. Service was great throughout the meal and though it was a busy night we had waiters constantly come over and assist in cooking the food. My favourite dish was the kimchi and pork ribs stew, the ribs were cooked to perfection and was very tender. I also highly recommend the peach rice wine (comes in a jug to share) which tasted really good.

The food is very good and different to other Korean places. Love the restaurant atmosphere and lighting. The dumplings are so goooood. Fried or steamed.

Love this place - have eaten here approx 6-7 times and consistently great food and service. The wine list is interesting in a good way with plenty by the glass. Highly recommended.

Had their Ginseng Chicken Soup and Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken. I loved the Ginseng Chicken Soup because the broth was rich and flavoursome. Moreover, the chicken were tender and not overcooked. However, the only drawback was that the chicken was very small, and there was not much meat in the soup. The Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken was not bad and I felt that it was one of the better ones I have had in Melbourne. The banchan served here was different as we were served with kimchi, tofu and mashed potato, where the tofu was my favourite.
