Hands down my favourite restaurant in Melbourne! Tucked away in a small alley giving off that lovely authentic Italian vibe. Not to mention, this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous inside! It managed to hit that perfect balance between traditional and contemporary style. Very professional staff as well. The only downside last time I visited was music (top 40 pop...) but this time, they changed it to jazz which complemented the elegant vibe it offered. FYI, couldn't believe we got the same table as the last time! I also love how they give out free bread wiyh the meal w/ olive oil.
We ordered the following:
Vitello Tonnato ($20) - Poached veal with tuna mayo, and caper; mad proper but I feel like tuna mayo was slightly overpowering. Tagliatelle Bolognese ($26) - essentially ragĂą pasta except it's so much better than one you make at home lol. Definitely up there. Tortelloni Modenesi ($29) - their signature; stuffed w/ Mortadella, Prosciutto, Parmeasan with aged Modena balsamic drizzled on top. MUST HAVE! (FYI, they also have secret 'off menu' dish called Tortellini in Brodo - tiny tortellini in flaoursome broth. More suitable for winter but defintely worth a try if you haven't!) A bit sad knowing that this place is getting more popular now that it's been awarded a chef's hat for the second year in a row. A perfect place to come with your date or even with your friends for a fancy dinner
Been here a few times now and we all know there are so many good Italian restaurants in Melbourne let alone the CBD. However, I'm always impressed with the attention given to their offerings including: home made bread (this tomato/herb one is so good), the sizes are decent & not over the top or too small for price, there is a smallish menu but I think that's better in a lot of ways so they can focus on the quality. You can peak into the kitchen as you enjoy a meal out the back or just sit and enjoy a coffee in the front.
This restaurant is charming and has character. The left side of the menu changes daily. The right hand side is consistent. There is a $15 charge if you bring your own wine. Love the mood music.
Delectable hand made pasta. Little pillows of delicious goodness.
The lamb rack was cooked nicely and very tasty. Garnished with fresh green peas that pop in your mouth. The jus was mellow and flavoursome.
Little hard to find but well worth the effort.
I came here for lunch with my colleagues. I’ve been wanting to try this place since it’s been awarded one chef hat. I had the Linguine and my colleagues had the Tagliatelle and Risotto. The Linguine was pretty nice overall because I’m a big fan of seafood and olives in pasta. However I did find it a little bland. I had a spoonful of my colleague’s Risotto and it was definitely a lot tastier and more unique. I’ll have to come back here to try the rest of their menu.
Incredible!!!! The vibe of this place and the food that goes with it teleport you to Rome!
Trattoria EmĂlia had been on my list for a long time and I was excited to finally go. The space is beautiful and traditional and I loved that it wasn’t too dark or too loud which made it great to actually enjoy a conversation. We had the antipasti board which was so amazing and way more than you usually get at different Italian restaurants and we shared the Tagliatelle bolognese and the Tortelloni Modesto - both were more delicious than the other and I am still dreaming of them. One of my new favourites. Very romantic and delicious!
We absolutely love this place! Emilia is tucked away in a little alley which gives it a lovely authentic Italian vibe to it. The food is amazingly good - my personal fav is the tagliatelle ragu bolognese and I love that they have a permanent as well as seasonal menu.
Lovely cosy Italian restaurant in a small alley.
Free wholemeal bread at the start of the meal was just fantastic, gluten was well formed and stretched. We ordered the spaghetti and tortellini pastas which were both very delicious. Also had a side order of greens which was also lovely. Staff were welcoming and nice. Overall, a nice place for dinner.
This was our second visit to Trattoria Emilia and, like the first, we loved the relaxed, rustic atmosphere and of course, their food. The housemade focaccia was so light, served with EVOO, it was a melt in the mouth sensation! What a great start to the dishes that would follow. We really loved all the courses however the eggplant was a talking point as it was particularly delicious and the hand-cut fries ….. they were awesome!
