Review Auction Rooms - Melbourne

Xiem Hong
This is a beautifully maintained historical building. My wife and I went for brunch, the historical was great and warm with families and couples, lots of noise of laughter and chatter. The service was friendly, with us greeted with a smile. This Cafe is also a dog friendly one, with outside seating for the doggies and their owners. I had the breakfast plate, it was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked . If you are around North Melbourne, it is a place that is worth a visit.

Local institution - great place for a coffee, breakfast or brunch. Auction rooms has to be one of the best local spots for breakfast. The service is great and staff friendly. I can’t remember ever eating anything here that wasn’t great. If the suns out, enjoy a coffee out the front. If the weather in less tolerable, there’s plenty of room inside.

Always busy and full tables but worth it to wait for brunch and coffee. I had a baked egg, and veggies with garlic toast and it was a good combination of tastes. Also, cute coffee art makes it better :)

A lovely experience though they only do takeaway due to covid. I love their decor and the building. The coffee is great and the staff are friendly.

🍞 brunch in north melbourne 🍳 eggs scrambled on toast 🥕 falafel with carrot jam 🥯 cinnamon scroll 🎃 chermoula roast pumpkin 🏠: @auction_rooms 📍: Errol St, North Melbourne 📝: I’ve passed this brunch place the first time a few years ago, but they’re always so busy and with all tables full! Lucky I managed to get a table with my friend this time. ❤️: I got the Falafel with carrot jam, farro tabbouleh, beetroot puree, and poached egg. So delicious and hearty, the perfect bowl. And since I’m a sweettooth, I also got the Cinnamon Scroll. I think it would taste even more amazing warmed up!

One of the best places in North Melbourne. The coffee is very nice. I was attended straight away. Friendly staff. I loved the industrial, modern, eclectic style of this place.

It’s my third time here with friends . No waiting too long time to make order . And coffe is ok . Juice is fresh. We ordered king prawn . Breakfast board with grilled chorizo .and daily special. Also coconut set chia pudding . Smoked salmon. Chia pudding is ok , not my taste. But poached eggs are good .

Excellent! Great coffee and a slightly abstract special of sautéed mushrooms on soft polenta with hazelnuts and crispy 63c eggs… perfectly balanced! The food on the other tables looked good too. Friendly service and comfortable indoor and outdoor tables; now wanting to plan my return!

I love this place! I’ve been a few times for breakfast, brunch or lunch but we had our engagement party there last night and it was amazing! It was pretty short notice as far as planning engagement parties go but everything went so smoothly from planning right thru to the final event. I was pretty disorganized with music and didn’t have anything prepared but they sorted that out for us without an issue. The staff were great and quick with drinks on the night and the food was on point! I received so many compliments on the food and everyone exclaimed how full they were and how they all had more than enough which I am so glad about because I was worried about that. I had a guest snap her heel and the event manager even offered to go and get super glue to fix it! Super impressed, can’t rave about this place enough!!!

Perhaps one of the best cafe I have ever been in Australia. Really exquisite enviornment, superb coffee and meals with professional and friendly staff members. Will always be my must go coffee and meal place whenever I go back to Melbourne.

Flavourless, overpriced breakfast. I'm not picky with food either but it was very underwhelming. There were four of us and not one enjoyed their meal. Counter staff were incredibly rude, we weren't even able to pay part cash and card and were forced to walk and find a cash machine.

Wow. Just had breaky at this joint and it was on point. As a venue owner myself,I have to say these guys don't miss a beat. The presentation to the unique flavours of everything on my plate. Well done guys.

Went there this morning, best St Ally’s coffee. Lovely food, generous plates and decently priced (compares to Melbourne’ market). Service was great too!! Loved it ! Really thank you
Alfred Fung
Food is good for instagram but average taste. Premixed salad put in the fridge too long and making it too cold to eat comfortably. You can hardly find a smile from the server. It matches the cool decoration theme, a cool server!

I really liked the place. It was a pretty long queue when we came at 10.30 on Sunday but it passed pretty quickly so in 15-20 mins we were sitted. Smoked salmon was really good. The portions are jot very big though. The flat white was amazing! Also we had some healthy cake taken away and enjoyed them a bit later! Would recxomend to visit.

Went to this lovely place for breakfast this morning and was impressed with the quick service, friendly staff and the food was delicious and unique. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Melbourne

Auction Rooms Cafe is a must try while your in North Melbourne! Their friendly staff, cool interior and delicious food must not be missed. Thank you for being awesome neighbours also.
Darryl Ephraums
Coffee is nice, but staff are relentless in trying to either serve you very quickly (before you have even sat down) or ferrying you to vacant seats next to doorways so you can freeze your tits off every time a new customer walks in. Not always that comfortable being here in winter! More of a summer cafe lol

Fabulous teriyaki eggplant soba noodle salad. Always excellent and interesting brunch food.

Insta: melbfoodie_mark
YT: MelbFoodieMark
** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne!
-
I used to work at this cafe, which by the way was under-paying me and now went out of bussiness, and this chef I met there always talked highly of this brunch place called Auction Rooms. Now, I am not exactly a Bunch-Goer. In fact, I actually hate most brunch cafes. Serving a few slices of bread with 1 or 2 eggs, throw in a bit of raquette making it all insta-worthy and charge $27... ???? like what? But with Auction Rooms, it was different. All the dishes tasted fantastic. Almost restaurant level. Definitely did not feel like I got robbed. Worth every penny 💪

We grabbed Breakfast Board ($23.5), Corned Beef Hash ($21.5), Prawn Linguini ($26). They were all so flavourful. Their chorizo was really something. Probably one of the best chorizoes I've ever had so far. So juicy with layers of herby flavours. Grab an extra if you can. Corned Beef was delicious. Crispy beef hash + Egg yolk + Sriracha Hollandaise + Charcoal pita bread = Perfection! 0 regret. I'd grab it again with a side of chorizo next time. Not to mention, their coffee was great too. Had their Barista Breakfast ($10) and I still can't forget how aromatic their espresso was. Mad Props! Finally a brunch cafe that's actually worthy to be called one of the best in Melbourne.

Great cafe. amazing chill vibes. Got the bfast board, and really enjoyed it! Tried my friends beef hash and I gotta say that was my fav among the 4. Mushroom dish was pretty good too, and even the veggie bowl was yummy. I really enjoyed the halloumi.
, croquette and the granola bowl on my board; Would come back again to have the whole beef hash to myself next time 😋

Friends from Sydney were visiting over the weekend and they wanted to try Auction Room. We visited on a Sunday morning around 11.00am and there was a bit of a queue. Lucky there were seats inside so we could sit and wait while checking out the menu.
There is a weekend surcharge of 10% and 18% surcharge for public holidays. Oh my god - that's the most I've seen for a public holiday surcharge.

🔆LOCATION🔆

Auction Room Cafe is situated on the popular Erroll Street in North Melbourne.

From the outside it looks like a very run-down establishment, however as you walk inside, it is very rustic-style setting. Very spacious with a big counter/drinks/coffee serving area in the middle and more seatings towards the back. It's very lively and good atmosphere.

🔆SERVICE🔆

We had a really lovely waitress serving us, but our drinks were forgotten for some reason. Our meals came before our drinks, we had to chase up twice.
Honestly I dont think this is a good place to visit on weekends or during public holidays.

🔆VERDICT🔆

The quality of food at Auction Room is quite consistent but was let down by our drinks and the service.

there is surcharge even on weekend and i could noy find this info on zomato

Variety of items on the menu. Wonderful food but room is a bit loud. Had a bit of a wait on Sunday for a 2pm lunch.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: Consistent, great vibes and delicious food.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I think this café must have been one of the first brunch places that I went to back in the days, but even coming back recently hasn’t changed my view on it. Their food and service is impeccable. I have tried their brioche French toast many times and it is a winner – deliciously made with caramelised bananas.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: There is a bit of a line even early on Saturdays so make sure you come in earlier!

🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great place for a brunch feed – won’t disappoint.

My partner has wanted to take me here for ages and I can see why. The venue is beautiful, it’s such a cool atmosphere. The food was fantastic, the breakfast board was delicious and so were the waffles. The coffee is what originally brought my partner here and he is fussy with his coffee. The menu was really fun, so we will have to come back to try more

Used to love this place a few years back, thought I would revisit today. Great service...quick and efficient.
Just crazy loud with the music and a fully packed place. Couldn't hear myself think even with my own headset on at full volume. Not the place for meetings or a quiet spot to work.

Lovely place for late breakfast. We had breakfast both new years eve morning and day morning. Everything we had was super good. Also service was nice! I recommend downloading an app, so you can join the waiting list already at home.

Love the mushroom medley! ! Also candyman coffee, but think they have changed to St. Ali

First time customer, and will definitely be going back. Staff were incredibly friendly, food came out fairly quickly and on top that, it was amazing. Would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice place to go to for lunch and just enjoy the atmosphere.
Srslyfoods
The food was incredible. There was a line for us but we got in fairly quick for a Wednesday brunch. Food came out quick and it was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this place!
GreenEggs
During recent trip to Melbourne this was the only place we visited twice. First time on busy Saturday morning but wait for table was reasonable. Staff were friendly and efficient. Ordered Corned Beef Hash and Brown Rice Vege Bowl, hash was crisp yet not dry with perfectly poached eggs, vege bowl was ordered with side of halloumi and lemon and devoured without complaint. Second trip ordered the special, scrambled eggs with chilli and chorizo and a repeat brown rice vege bowl with halomi (it was that good the first time). Again perfectly cooked eggs with heat from chorizo and chilli not over powering. Great coffee.

One of my favourite brunch spots 💕🍳
I’ve been coming to the auction room for years! Now that I’ve moved away from the local area, I still love to come back and enjoy the coffee and food.

❤️: coffee, food- bakery, baked eggs etc., friendly staff member, interior design, location!
Karina J
I love the decor and how they have been able to retain most of the history of thus beautiful building. The coffee had great flavour and I can’t wait to return to try the food!

Located in North Melbourne this busy cafe has never failed to impress me. With there wide variety of options on both breakfast and lunch menus as well as specials it makes my decision quite a difficult one to choose. However every time I return for catching up with friends, i never feel limited with my options.

The breakfast board 4/5: this dish gives us a fun way to enjoy your meal and looks amazing as well! The variety of egg, potato rosti and yoghurt with fruit on the side gives you a satisfied breakfast without feeling like you've had too much of one item on your dish which tends to happen when places try to overload the plate.

The corned beef hash 4.5/5: this dish like your typical slow cooked beef hash dishes had all the different flavours that pair well together to create a fulfilling dish when contrasted with the poached eggs. The care to every ingredient to ensure each item on the plate was flavourful was a surprise. I ended up wanting more of the cauliflower even though I was so full on the slow cooked hash.

Coffee 4/5: had an Iced latte and it was pleasant while last time I came it was a little bitter. Good variety including filter and matcha drinks.

Also recommend: the baked eggs dish

Overall I find this brunch place worth visiting if you're a local or visiting Melbourne.

Unpretentious food with a flair. Lovely service and lots of great seasonal options. Also really enjoy the space, especially the outdoor area!
Viperbuzz12
I like the insustrial design of the cafe. Bought long black and I didn't like it. The coffee tasted so bitter and sort of chemical after taste. Won't be going back.

First comment on zomato for this amazing place. I’m the supper fan of eggs Benedict, apparently the corned beef hash just playing as the “Benedict” role in this brunch place. The hollandise was creamy and tasty, that would be the greatest combination with the corned beef which was flavored perfectly as well. Also I wasn’t expected the pita could be that fantastic especially to match with everything else in this dish. Such a gourmet that I’m really satisfied with. The coffee for both of mine and my friend’s was awesome too. Definitely I’ll come back for that even if I’m not near this suburb.

oh wow i love this place! my foodie friend recommended this place, so i eventually came to try it. and so glad i didi!! i had the buttermilk waffles. they were amazing. they tasted as good as they look! perfection! the song What a Wonderful World was playing as i ate it, and i was thinking, yes it is a wonderful world, especially when im eating these waffles! :) this is a really cool place, with an inviting and friendly vibe. and really friendly and attentive staff! :) i love it! great coffee too!

Yummmm love this place!!!

Poached Eggs & Thick Cut Bacon. Less is more and form follows function. Who cares mouth and taste follows fork so hurry up with your photos and let me eat! @auction_rooms nom nom nom.

The Auction Room's Pressed pork shoulder with white bean puree, morcilla, shaved bone marrow, pickled carrots, sweet potato crisps and a slow cooked poached egg. Mmmm it was a goodie. I applaud the chef team for pushing a difference in ingredients and for their contemporary plating.

This dish is an acquired taste and one in which I hope to one day be able to appreciate more. Fd: 8.5/10 | Srv: 5/5 | Cf: 4/5. @auction_rooms

French Toast. I think mum was on a winner when she ordered this one

Pay them a visit last easter and it was a long queue. We waited for 30’. Despite of the busy day, the quality of food is maintained well. The service is quick and friendly staffs. The food is average but the drink is good. Love their coconut chocolate
Jelly9449
Great view and atmosphere in the cafe and all the wait staffs are more than happy to recommend you which dish to try based on your preference. We tried their Braised lamb shoulder with smoked eggplant, whipped chèvre, Moghrabieh couscous, almonds, pickled red onions & salt, and their Brown rice bowl with field mushrooms, Swiss chard, leek, peppers, zucchini, broccolini, hazelnuts, coriander, and cherry tomato salsa. To which both were amazing. But I think it'd be good to try their braised lamb dish if you're starving. It might be a struggle to finish the food if you aren't that hungry.
On my 2nd visit with another friend, I ordered seafood linguini while she ordered breakfast board. I'd say their pasta is a must-try dish if you're going there for brunch around 12 pm and starving. It smells and tastes amazing and it fills you up just right.

The corned beef hash was beautiful, service was even greater. After asking the host to swap poached eggs for fried eggs, the dish also came with hollandaise sauce on the side, very considerate staff and kitchen.
Rate: 4.0/5
☆彡 returned a second time for a late 3pm lunch (kitchen closes 3:30, so luckily we could still order food!) instant seating in spacious interior, not too busy.
ordered: miso-glazed pumpkin pumpkin & quinoa ($20), Brioche french toast ($19) and hot chocolate.

☆ the Good:
- miso-glazed pumpkin (new item) was delicious, never thought pumpkin PUREE could taste so creamy almost caramelly, i was almost licking the bowl clean!!! Very well balanced light dish with sweetness from pumpkin and crunch from walnuts and quinoa
- brioche french toast was so beautifully presented and also tasted amazing, the frosted pecans are a perfect addition
- food came super quick
- staff are very friendly: one of them (maybe manager?) he was super kind/friendly and waitress also asked how our meals were

NOTE: this service is waay better than the first time i went where some staff seemed very rushed, uninterested

☆ not so good:
- maybe a bit pricey side of brunch

☆彡 overall, will probs return for that miso-glazed pumpkin or even other menu items :)
Auction Rooms is this massive cafe buzzing with very high energy, and oh boy! Oh boy!! It's difficult to not enjoy the ambiance.

Two delectable bundles of taste - Hot Chocolate, one being extremely healthy because of Oat Milk, and the other had raisin syrup (if our memory serves me right)..... was difficult to not go gaga over and clearly deserves The Drink Of The Day title.

The Dish Of The Day easily goes to Hand pulled pork with Sircha Hollandaise dish was To Die For

And the Lamb Shoulder with Smoked Eggplant Puree was Out of This World!!

Smoked Salmon with Pumpkin Jam, Kale.and Chorizo was a perfection to eye and #Delish for the taste buds

It's quite rare to not like something such as Pecan and Apple Cinnamon Cake was one of them...absolutely dry and crumbly and thus, our rating ignores the bad taste of dessert.

Honestly food is expensive but the first bite from your plate and you know why... Hence Value For Money

They have a decent spread for Vegan and #Vegetarians and also for those who are on a glutenfree diet.

Auction Rooms do flavors that is hard to ignore, do plating that is hard to not appeal and rarely difficult to dislike and therefore, it's a Must on your list.
Rach
Despite being early, we were ignored and left to wait at the entrance for at least 5 minutes before someone attended to us (with at least 3-4 waiters/ waitresses walking and looking around).

The food was alright - I have to say, the standard had dropped dramatically from when I visited last year.

We had the corned beef hash and the fried chicken buttermilk waffles (special for Mother’s Day). The corned beef hash was extremely salty and had no real other flavours. The buttermilk waffles were nicely balanced in flavours but the fried chicken was, again, too salty. The presentation was good though.

We had the Mork dark chocolate (yum) and the green juice. This had got to be THE WORST green juice I have ever had (after visiting >100+ other brunch places in Melbourne). The green juice came in a small glass and the glass was filled to the brim with ice (aka the juice was only a mere 1/3 of the glass), having said that, it was only $6.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I will visit Auction Rooms again in the future.
Sense Of Food
Buzzing, rustic-chic cafe with a sunny courtyard, for coffee of the day and inventive breakfasts. Inside, concrete floors, rustic brick and steel combine for an industrial chic look. But chatter lifts the otherwise stark space. That buzz never stops as customers, both regulars and new comers, head to the cafe for a comfort brunch to satisfy their day.

Well, with that said, though I did love the vibe and the friendly service, and my friend loved what she ordered, the chia pudding was kind of weird. I loved the creaminess of the chia pudding itself against the sweet strawberry syrup, but in some bites where there’s peppercorn, it just did not go well together at all. If there were no pepperish taste in the dish, I would’ve gives a 5/5 for the dish.

Yet, presentation looks amazing, and savory dishes were good too. Overall, I would like to give it another shot and try something else next time.

Je t’aime to the food and coffee here 🥰 (PS: It’s French for I love you! hehe)

FOOD & COFFEE: I ordered the extremely famous Brioche French Toast and it certainly blew me away! I’m a major sweet brunch lover and Auction Room’s French Toast hit every single spot! The toast was perfectly toasted and was crispy but the inside was still so soft and fluffy! The bananas were caramelized absolutely beautifully and gave an amazing flavour, the pecans were SO SO GOOD and added an amazing crunch to the dish but the cream was such a winning factor! Everything came together and some people would think that it might be too sweet but fear not because it delivered balance! It is definitely a dish that deserves high praise because of the perfect flavour and textures and I can see why it’s such a crowd favourite! The coffee is also phenomenal as well! The soy milk latte was so creamy but the flavour of the coffee is still beautiful and it certainly gave me the morning warmness I want and NEED!

SERVICE: Service is friendly and attentive!

Auction Rooms has been on my food bucket list for awhile now and I do not regret coming here! The French Toast is definitely a must-try for any sweet tooth if they’re ever around the area (and hey, I wouldn’t judge if you’d wanna travel just for it too 😉)

We came here on a Sunday morning and it was quite busy here. The coffee is great! My friend ordered earl grey and it would be great if that comes with milk. The food looks amazing but it tastes not as good as I expected. The staff are so nice and friendly.
Jessica Brisbane Foodie
Amazing and probably the best brunch place I have been to in Melbourne so far. I had the brown rice dish and added egg and hallomui and it was so delicious. My husband had the burger and it was delicious as well! The coffee was super! Even though it’s a bit of a drive for us it was 100% worth it! Will be back for sure!
Margaret
It is a over rated cafe, coffee is ok, food aren't nice consider the price we paid. Staffs are not fully observing the needs from the customer as no one serve our table until you asked.
Nice tech for provide notices when the seat are available, so you no need to wait at the cafe.
Overall is not the cafe I will go back.a bit disappointed due to the rating reflect the experience

Great brunch place located in North Melbourne. Went there on a Saturday so we had to wait for a table, but it’s not that long of a wait if you’re going with just two people.

The corned beef hash is my all time favourite item on their menu. The poached eggs are always cooked perfectly and the pita bread that comes with the dish compliments the beef hash nicely.

The breakfast board on the other hand is also nice, but the portion size is a bit small for the amount you pay for.

Overall, the atmosphere was great for a place with decent food and drink options. The only improvement I would suggest is to change the chairs on the bigger tables to have backrests as it can get quite uncomfortable sitting for long periods. Would definitely come back to try their other dishes!
Whalesfoodadventure
Great service. Ordered the fritters and sides of potato hash and asparagus. Fritters were amazing taste and texture. Place gets real busy especially on weekends but worth it
Karen
I would give 3.5 if I could but I find service really important. I went with my family for coffee mid Sunday afternoon. Got seated really quickly. The food and coffee was of good quality

However, the waitress who took our order was not very professional though. My mother asked if she was able to have a vase of flowers as she spotted flowers on other table. A simple, "Sorry, I can't do that." Would've sufficed however she made a sarcastic remark, "do you want me to steal it off other tables?" which ruined the feeling of a family catch up.

On the other hand, another asian(?) Waistress was quick and efficient and seemed to really care about customer service as she helped us get extra serviettes.
Jisu Kim
Friendly staffs and quiet nice place. I ordered strong latte and some foods to be share with my friend, they were so nice. I liked combination of food ingredients.
Little Pony
It’s pity to experience that a waiter was so arrogant and kinda racist in a such high-score cafe. But the host was friendly and efficient.
I was hesitating which coffee to order, he was impatient and gave me a tutorial of the coffee menu in a rush without useful info. And it wasn’t busy period.
Later on he notified all the tables around us due to last order except us.
If service sucks, the rest is just not worth it.
Yang Yubing
Really great brunch restaurant in Melbourne. The dishes my friends and I ordered all tasted wonderfully. You can directly choose anything you'd like to try on the menu and you won't feel regretted. By the way, the environment is also great for enjoying a happy hour with your friends.
THEJUGERNAUTS
Somewhere in the 3.5 mark TBH. Its an amazing looking cafe, great looking space and the coffee was quite good. The food really is just sorta okay. Decent but its not going to knock your socks off. Weird looking plate with the misc things (their breakfast platter?) on it - is kinda presented really poorly. Put me off our meal when it arrived. Egg hash thingo was servicable. Fritters similarily so. YMMV.

A beautiful spot for brunch in North Melbourne.

🍹 DRINKS: n/a

🍽 FOOD:
- 'Matt's Scramble - Chorizo and Spanner Crab chilli scramble on a toasted croissant, smoked hot sauce, and herb salad' ($23.50) [SPECIAL]: this was delicious! Just the right amount for me, and I loved the taste of chorizo against the crab (though pieces were far and few) combined in the sauce. And of course, can't go wrong with a scrambled egg and a deliciously crispy exterior, soft interior croissant. The 'herb salad' is a bit false advertising, there were just a few sprigs...but an overall yummy dish nonetheless.
- "Braised lamb..." ($25.50) [REG MENU] - the lamb meat was soft, filling and delicious. Loved the little touches of corn, salad and the sauce.

📷 AMBIENCE: lovely and bright ambience with an eclectic combination of spaces in lots of light. Every visit in a different spot would bring a new vibe.

🧂SERVICE: good.

LOG:
2019.04.14 -- 4.0 -- Visited with T, C&C for another weekend brunch / double date.

2019.03. -- 4.0 -- Visited with B for brunch on a Sunday morning! It was already busy with customers, and apparently Laurina from the Bachelor AU S2 was at the bar behind us! :O
Would return for something else on the menu. :)
Affogato Addiction
Solid brunch / lunch menu, excellent roast for coffee. Can be quite busy at peak times.

Corn fritters, $19.5, is a tasty choice.

Does not offer am affogato! (Would consider docking half a star for that)
Danielle Nguyen
I loved the variety of food they had on the menu. My favourite dishes were the nachos and corn and kale fritters. The nachos were flavoursome with a spicy kick, which I enjoyed. The corn and kale fritters were crispy, and with the help of the pomegranates, it helped break up the flavours. I especially loved the presentation of this place. The staff were attentive and friendly.
Binula
Been here quite a few times now and never been disappointed. The menu has a good variety of unique options - I’ve had the breakfast board, the corn beef hash and the burgers which have all been delicious! The coffee is always made well and service is generally very friendly.
Gene
Good coffee, tasty food and a pleasant atmosphere. However a big let-down for me today was that I was charged $2.50 for jam and $2.00 for hot sauce. That definitely raised my eyebrow at checkout which I feel they should have been up-front with at the time of ordering. In my experience, there’s an assumption that things like jam and hot sauce are free of charge so either they were honestly forgetful in telling me about the charge or they were being deceitful and hoping we wouldn’t notice when it came time to pay. I hope it’s the former but it could just as easily be the latter since we dealt with two waiters regarding the hot sauce and jam. I probably would have been fine $1 but an eye-watering $2.50 for a thimble of jam? There’s covering your costs and then there’s straight-up price gouging. What’s next? Charging for salt and pepper? A rental fee for using their knives and forks?

That said, with these extra costs and a simple eggs and toast costing a whopping $11 ($15.50 if you include the jam and hot sauce), I think they’ve officially priced themselves out of our business and will look elsewhere for coffee and breakfast when we’re in the area. Or we’ll just eat at home.
Oodreiilittlepotato
Had the brioche french toast for me, and my friend got the corn and kale fritters. The brioche french toast, not too sweet just perfect for my sweet tooth! And quiet filling. The corn and kale fritters is nice, just nice. And had ice coffee which is in my top 5 ice coffee in Melbourne

We had to wait a long time for a table, but the corn beef hash was worth it. The staff were friendly and helpful, but I guess it was too busy to be very attentive. The coffee was also good. Will come again.
Lachie Swann
The Auction Rooms is an amazing breakfast venue. It’s long windows catch the sun in the morning, the staff are great and the coffee is exceptional. The corn beef hash (which sounds strange) might be the best breakfast dish I’ve tried in Melbourne. This place rocks.
Liuxxx
Today's visit was not on par with my previous experiences.

The corned beef lacked flavour and very dry.

Pita bread were burnt to the days.

Service was okay. New waitress i assume.
Carmelita
Over priced menu with weekend surcharges. I hope to god they pay their workers above award rates with the amount they charge their customers. Coffee was decent but food was really lacklustre.
Inder
Amazingly friendly service. Compliments to the chef on the outstanding Christmas lunch (Dec ‘18). The poke bowl was also outstanding. This is a must visit place.
Pros:
♤Fine and healthy food
♤Lovely atmosphere
♤Fast and reliable service
Overall one of my favourite breakfast/brunch places in Melbourne.
Definitely recommend: 4.6

Fantastic! Not that this place needs my review but I loved my lunch on Sunday at the Auction Room. I will have to come back for the seafood linguini so you’ll see me on the weekend.

The salmon wasn’t fishy and cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside and soft and tender in the centre. I’m not a big fan of deep fried kale but didn’t mind it with the dish as it wasn’t too greasy.
Aishah
A nice rustic feel to the interior of this cafe. Great service and good food too! We ordered the baked eggs and the corned beef hash. Good portion sizes too!

Nice cafe with a beautiful decor! The smoked chicken sandwich is great as are the coffees. The only thing to be mindful of is, that it is a tad expensive..
Bite The Looks By BHA

We went here on a Saturday morning before heading off to the airport. We wanted a good quality breakfast with an interesting menu. Auction rooms surely deliver on food, service and overall design of the cafe. We were greeted politely and were found a table quite promptly which in retrospect we were quite lucky as when we were leaving there was a long queue at the door. Food was simple but delicious ingredients prepared well and the staff were great.

A place with Weekend Vibe... the crispy kale is my favourite among so many lovely things in the cafe. Will have brunch next time here that’s for sure!

Love this place. Love the food. I still have couple of
More things to try on their menu. It is always crowded during weekends so go with 20-30 mins queuing time in hand. While you are in the queue, please do visit the games shop around the corner and the gift shop next door.

Me and my friends were here for brunch ,, what an amazing day it was ,, had a great time there with some great good .. this place is full of energy with friendly and all time smiling staff. Tried couple items here , coffee is a MUST try they are just amazing , and then coming to food -I ate the corn and kale fritters with eggplant purée, pickled chillies , pomegranate , fried eggs and I added the avocado and tomato salsa on the side which I say is the must to do. And next item was baked eggs with tomato sauce, and other one is hot smoked salmon with poached eggs.. all the items we tried was amazingly tasty. I would definitely recommend everyone here for a good brunch/ breakfast .

• Auction room • , where do I start with you. As they say it's not about quantity but quality. If you're the one to experiment with flavours, auction room is the way to go. Though a little pricey, the experience makes up for it. Who knew eggplant and jam could be in the same sentence. #foodporn #cafe

The quality of the food in this place has remained the same throughout the years. Enjoy most of the food in their menu. Food always comes well seasoned, good balance and cook to perfection.

The portion can be a bit too little at time and the waiting time for the food can be a tad long. Not taking into consideration the queue.

Price wise very similar to other brunching
Joints.

Lovely industrial design and very relaxing inviting atmosphere.

Friendly and good customer service.

Will return? Yes.

Auction rooms is a charming cafe located in North Melbourne. It is famous for its lovely dishes, nice coffee, and good service. The ambience is great by decors, lighting, colour, furniture

Love me some Auction Rooms action! One of the North Melbourne cafes that will not fail you!
Set in a beautiful old warehouse, with a very industrious open kitchen and equipped with a long line.
Great food and beverages, baked goods galore!

Nice little stop before or after shopping at the Queen Vic Markets!
Decided to randomly select a place via Zomato for brunch and see if it lived up to its rating. This place just fell short.
We ordered coffee which was decent and I ordered the salmon and my wife ordered eggs on toast. The salmon was slightly dry but however all ingredients/flavours combined really complemented each other and made for quite a delicious dish. My wife’s dish however was a bit too oily for her as they had spread butter on the toast without asking.
Other than that the service was friendly and the place was quite busy.
This is my favorite brunch place in North Melbourne, it’s long established and the experience is always good. Unlike all the new cafes doing massive online marketing, this place just maintains high standard of coffee and food and be what it is... Still, you will expect to queue for most of the days..

Friendly waiter, companion ordered the burger and said it’s one of the best he’s had. I ate a grain, hazelnut, roast vegetable, avocado salad which was beautiful. Perfect size and great combination of flavours.

An excellent brunch place between last work and next job. Hot chocolate is so sweet to have a latte art on it. The rice bowl is very good at the beginning but hard to eat too much as it will be too rich. I think that’s why the acid cucumbers exist, to prevent the richness. Beef slices r yummy, liked some sort of snacks.

My partner and I came here early afternoon for it’s all-day breakfast.

Rarely do I go into a brunch restaurant and not know what to order as I had with Auction Rooms, given their distinct lack of a profile, all-encompassing dish- each restaurant’s equivalent of a big breakfast.

I ordered their baked eggs with an extra serving of chorizo and a black coffee. My partner, ordered their salmon and crispy kale and a cold brew.

The composition of their dishes was varied but there lacked substance in quantity- three slices of chorizo and two dollops of mayonnaise did not justify the additional cost.

The baked eggs were however delicious- tomato paste, two poached eggs, a sort of cheese, hazelnuts. The salmon was average but the crispy kale, the green beans and the pumpkin/sweet potato purée were perfect accompaniments. And the potato hash cubes were worthwhile ordering.

Overall, each dish in the menu seems to be inherently lacking- size and sides, but great with pairing of additional items at a cost.

Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere of the cafe was really nice and relaxing. The food looks pleasing to the eye but could be more flavourful

Didn't have time for breakfast but stopped in for a quick snack from their cake window. The donut was fresh and delicious, and we demolished it instantly. Will have to return for breakfast one day for the full experience!

We saw the high score on Zomato and were very very excited to give it a try. Pay $11 for fried eggs on sourdough as in photo below: any one with basic cooking skill can make an fried egg look better than this.
Cannot be more disappointed. Will not come again.

The ambiance of this place is great.. I am a foodie who loves the food more than the presentation.. they serve the food in a very beautiful manner, but the flavour profile does not meet the price.. great for instagram pics though 😁

A well/decorated, spacious and lovely cafe with good food and good service. What more do you need? Drinks were well-made, and the food was well-presented and tasty.

Walked in on a busy Saturday, and the usual ritual of giving your name and waiting to get a seat followed suit. The wait was a mere 10 mins

Got ushered to our dear and we ordered the usual suspects ; coffees, which were pretty good

I ordered the beef hash while the missus got the baked eggs and on the side we added chorizo and the potato hash.

The dishes were great! I wouldn’t say it knocked me off my seat but they were delicious nonetheless. Great vibes and good service all round! Can’t wait to be back!

Nice setting, felt warm and cosy. However the coffee was cold, and the size of the smashed avo was disappointing, and rather the eggs were bland.

The staff here are so lovely. I've recently moved to the area and Auction Rooms has quickly become my favourite place to be on my morning's off. Thanks guys 😊

Had the beef hash and platter with mum on Mother's day. Was expecting more from the platter but it was okay. The beef hash was definitely the highlight and a must-try.

Terrible experience today at Auction Rooms. Arrived towards the end of the day, was told “you’d better be quick” when I asked for a couple of moments to read the menu (although an apology later ensued), coffees were first delivered to the wrong table and my meal was awful (way too much chilli causing me to cough for a good five minutes), and completely overpriced. I won’t be returning.

my rating is on the coffee at Auction Rooms, I ordered a Almond Cap and had a couple of sips and it went straight into the bin, bitter tasteless, they should really test their milks and decide if this is the best option to make a good coffee.

This is one of my all time favs
Amazing coffee
Great menu, food is alway delish
Pastries are super fresh
Can sometimes be a wait on weekends (as most good spots in Melbourne)
Hard to fault

Will come back for:
+ Hash Brown
+ French toast

Auction rooms is one of my favourite brunch places in town. The atmosphere, vibe and service is always reliably great. We came in for brunch on a Saturday morning, and the place was pumping as usual. Although, we only queued 15 minutes before we were promptly seated and the food came quick once ordered. We had the hash brown (this is a deconstructed version of what you know as a hash brown, that still tasted great with loads of texture), the French toast (another great dish - savoury, crunchy from the caramelised walnuts and bananas), and the poke bowl (this was unfortunately a miss for us today as the rice was soggy and gluey - perhaps having an off day with this one)? Nevertheless, I still consider this a great Melbourne brunch destination.

This place is absolutely amazing. Staff are friendly, food was delicious and the ambience was exactly what I wanted and expected from Melbourne. I ordered the beef hash and my friend ordered the lamb chops alongside some homemade lemonade and lemon lime and bitters. Definitely one of my highlights from my time in Melbourne.

Enjoyed my Saturday here at auction room. 10min waiting time for the table which is pretty good for a weekend. I ordered the beef hash with poached eggs and I really like the flavour. Definitely worth a try!! Their plum green tea is a bit disappointing.

One of the first cafes I’ve tried in Melbourne years back. I still remember the pork belly as it was delicious. More recently tried the salmon which was decent. Friendly staff and good coffee, what more could you ask for
David Baldini
They don't have vegan dishes, the good things they have good vegetarian one wich can be definetly turn in Vegan. The coffee and the place itself is pretty good. I love the style of this place. I will go back definetly, hopefully they'll start to make Vegan dishes.

Very popular place, but staff were a let down. Ignored me and my partner as we patiently waited to be seated- no one said 'ill be right with you' etc. Once we did get a table and ordered- our food was not very inspiring, portion size was very small, and bland in taste.
Not a great experience

Auction Rooms is a bright, rustic-chic cafe in North Melbourne. We were looking for a place to work for the afternoon that had great food. After a couple of recommendations, we landed at this cozy spot. The staff was unbelievably friendly and attentive. Even though it was busy, we never felt rushed to leave and in fact felt welcome to stay as long as we wanted even during times where we had finished drinks/food and continue to work. We started with a couple of drinks, including a tasty and perfectly spiced chai tea latte. After working for a couple of hours, we ordered some brunch: the corned beef hash & grilled chicken salad.

The housemade corned beef hash was made with slow cooked beef, leeks, crispy potato straws & cabbage, topped with poached eggs & sriracha hollandaise. This dish was absolutely delicious, and the flavors really worked well together. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and that hollandaise was oh so dreamy. It came with some warm pita that was perfect for getting every last drop of that sauce!

The grilled buttermilk chicken salad was made with quinoa, chopped cos, smoked almonds, fennel, parmesan, & pickled radish. I was a pretty simple salad, but the flavors going on here blew my tastebuds out of the water! The fennel & picked radish added the perfect level of acidity, and I enjoyed the texture of those crunchy almonds. I literally could have eaten this salad all day long.

This cafe really had it all - deliciously creative food, excellent coffee & tea, and a friendly atmosphere, perfect for working or catching up with friends! Amazing!
