Review Cargo Restaurant - Melbourne

Siya Thomas
A great place to catch up with friends over a cocktail or a coffee. The outdoor seating was such a pleasant experience facing the still waters of docklands. The staffs were friendly and the hospitality was top notch. Will be back to try more of their lunch & dinner options.

Came in for a celebratory lunch for my lovely daughter with my beautiful to wife on. Wednesday and we all enjoyed our dining experience. The food came out all at the same time as did our drinks. Staff are casually friendly and helpful and not disruptive during your dining. I thoroughly enjoyed my Fixation pale ale along with a Chilli Burger. Worth coming back too.
Shell Belle
Beautiful outlook over the water of the Docklands with the cityscape/apartments towering in the background. Chilled atmosphere; very relaxed for any occasion. Good for families too. Ordering through Mr Yum was easy with a mixed selection of food and drinks. Lovely friendly staff and good service. Only negative was it was a little chilly inside so on a hot day it’s definitely better to be inside. Warm nights it’s great by the water.

Absolutely loved the iced coffee. Staff were nice. Good view everything seems fantastic will go back again! Would have given 5 stars if they had more milk alternatives! Other than that perfect for brunch 🥰

Nice place right on the river. Great view and would be ideal in summer with all the outdoor seating. The food was quite good and generous serves.

Great restaurant with quick service and a gorgeous view. Indoor and outdoor seating. One or two gluten free main meal options.

The food was absolutely lovely and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and amazing view. I had an overall good time however, the cocktails we had were so weak, I myself hardly drink but on this special occasion had 4, yet felt nothing. I went with a group of friends and we all agreed the drinks that night were a waste of money because we didn't even feel like we had alcohol. We spent atleast $400 on cocktails alone.

A nice place to sit back and enjoy the view while munching down delicious woodfire pizza. The serving size is also big so perfect for sharing. We got the Cargo and Funghi pizza. The Cargo was average but the Funghi was delightful with unique flavours of mushroom, cheese, herbs and truffle blend. The outdoor area is great for catching up with friends as you can easily place orders using the QR code and have food and drink brought to your table. Our waitress was attentive and friendly but quick to grab our plates and glasses as soon as they were nearly empty so we felt a bit rushed.
Carol Pawsey
Had a great meal there the other night. Delicious food, attentive and helpful wait staff. My dietary restrictions were catered for with no fuss. It was a very cold night and the restaurant was warm and cozy. Great music and not too loud, conversation was easily heard. Two main meals, a side dish and four drinks totalled $99. The meal sizes were generous and left no room for sweets. We will happily return next time we're in Docklands.

We have traveled and drank and eaten at every place we have stopped at but the customer service in the cafes and bars and shops is so freshly nice can’t say anything bad same at the Cargo had a very nice paella and the young lady patrolled the area topping up with water with out asking very polite person livery service she even warned us the paella was a big dish so advised us against a starter. She was right struggled to eat all of mine not just 5stars but brilliant
Katie Rose
A nice relaxed bar in Docklands looking over the water. Staff very friendly and attentive. Asked for a couple of requests in our order and the food came back correct. Food different and tasted sensational.. could not fault. Would highly recommend this place

This restaurant is a must-visit when you visit Melbourne. I went there yesterday for a brunch. They served delicious food and the service was absolutely great! Not to mention the stunning view of docklands

Food was soooo delicious! Service ok. Coffee needs work. View relaxing. Overall exp. Good. Definitely would recommend enjoying a meal here!

Relexed atmosphere, beautiful views, attentive staff. Would have given 5 stars but the portion sizes are too small for the price paid.
Sue Grant
Great place with friendly staff, food & drinks really good. Nice view

Fantastic experience overall. Spent New Years Eve in Cargo. Lovely place, service was fantastic and food was amazing! Service staff were attentive, patient, and lovely, so good we went back on New Year day! Thank you Cargo xx

I really like how you can dine with a view being the view of the waterfront assuming you get the table by the window ⛲️<br/><br/>Decent food, ordered pizzas 🍕, paella 🥘 & pasta 🍝, defo did not disappoint me. I specifically remember that they had this banana Nutella pizza 🍌 which certainly impressed me as I never had a pizza of these kind.<br/><br/>🗓 Visited in July 2017

Amazing food!!!

Coffee and food were both 10 out of 10! Would highly recommend the waffles. The view is incredible and service was great! Will definitely be returning soon! Even had to get another coffee on our way out.

Firstly the big highlight about this place is its location. Having a nice meal, looking over the water cannot go wrong. Especially there are very less places in Melbourne which offer such experiences. So definitely full points for location and ambience. <br/>Coming to food- it is pretty good. We ordered spicy pizza, loaded fries, open souvlaki and pasta and it was enough for 4 of us. The prices are also average so good in that respect. <br/>They can look into expanding or mixing up their menu a bit or offer happy hour drinks or specials which will gain more traction.<br/>we would surely go back.

This restaurant have a delicious carbonara pappardelle !

We often pop into cargo for a glass of wine and cheesy, garlic pizza when we’re around the docklands. It’s an easy relaxed spot.

Absolutely love this place, right from the Ambience, the view, the food and the drinks.. Cargo's pretty close to my place and i go here often and I've never been disappointed till date, the staff's super sweet and accommodating, i love that they have ample vegan and vegetarian options!!
Sharon Jong
This place is definitely a go-to if you're looking for a place to chill. It's located right next to the port, hence, a pretty nice view from the restaurant. It has outdoor seatings as well if you're keen to enjoy the ocean breeze.<br/><br/>It was a late afternoon so we only ordered a beef burger to share and I had a coffee shake. The beef burger was mediocore, nothing fancy about it but the chips were warm and crunch and thiccccc just the way I like my chips.<br/><br/>Overall, I think the food is just okay, but the ratings mostly go to the ambience and its view.
Amala Priya Shankar
I loved the cosy atmosphere in this place with one of the best views & great service. The food was amazing, and quantity was just right at reasonable price. Needless to say we were already full when we were in the second starter, but loved everything we've had. And a lovely desserts to end a beautiful dinner night. Small recommendation is - break the honeycomb into smaller pieces and the focassia could have a little more of garlic flavour and cheese.
Sonam Jaiswal Anant
It’s a waterfront restaurant. Vegetarian and vegan friendly too. I went there with my friend, nice ambience, friendly staffs, nice views and yes food is also great.
Teresa Tamika
Coming from a person who never likes carbonara, this place has a really tasty Carbonara Pappardelle, and I also love the ambience!
Sonam Khanduja
Went for dinner there on a wintery night. Perfect place with perfect view. The ambience and view does add a lot to the experience.<br/>The food was nice. The staff was helpful and courteous. They customised the pizza for us as we don’t eat pork. Though they can add some more chicken options. <br/>Overall lovely evening and awesome food.

A sister restaurant to Berth next door, you could consider Cargo the cool, younger sister. Wheras Berth concentrates on an a la carte menu, Cargo is more casual, with offerings such as pizza, paella and burgers. However, like her neighbour, Cargo has the same gorgeous view; and at night it's pretty spectacular. The sparkling lights over the water at Docklands adds to the cool and fun vibe here.<br/><br/>This restaurant was packed full when we visited, yet the staff were still very attentive and friendly; and our meals were delivered very quickly. For starters we enjoyed mouth watering crumbed calamari which was tender and delicious, and so fresh. We could cut it with a spoon, it was that good. We also had the grilled saganaki, and it too was delightful. The saltiness of the cheese was offset by sweet grapes, and it too was delicious.<br/><br/>Our waitress recommended that we have pizza for our main, and we weren't disappointed with that decision. With a beautifully chewy crust and plenty of topping, it was a really enjoyable pizza. It even had white anchovies which are a particular favourite of mine, so I was extremely happy with my choice.<br/><br/>Our desserts were beautifully presented, and equally tasty. The deconstructed cheesecake was served in a deep dish, and it's tangy passion fruit topping added just the right amount of tang to the creamy filling. The chocolate pot was the cutest little flower pot filled with chocolate mousse, honeycomb, cream and crumb. Such rich chocolate flavour, and silky smooth texture made this an awesome dessert.<br/><br/>We absolutely had the best time at Cargo, and it really is a great venue; whether it be for a casual date night or a big family get together. Such an amazing location is only enhanced by the fabulous staff and delicious food, making for a truly memorable experience.<br/><br/>Thank you so much for hosting us.

It’s Friday night, you’ve just clocked off from work, what do you do – well for us, we were recently invited to Cargo Restaurant’s #bottomlesscargo afterwork winter special.<br/><br/>So, what is #bottomlesscargo you ask, kicking off at 4.30pm until 6.30pm every Friday night during winter Cargo are opening their doors to a bottomless supply of drinks and pizza.
Lee Crawford
I’ve only visited for their new bottomless Cargo - bottomless pizza and selected drinks on Friday’s (4:30-6:30). The pizza was delicious - nice thin bases and well loaded with toppings. Nice lively atmosphere and excellent service, I’d definitely like to go back and try more. If you visit try to grab a seat by the window for stunning views.
Dine And Dash
We attended the launch of the new ‘Bottomless Cargo’ where every Friday night during Winter, they serve unlimited selected pizza and drinks! <br/><br/>We had the Margherita with fior di latte, mozzarella on a san Marzano tomato base and basil and The Cargo with double smoked ham, intro bacon, red onion, pineapple and jerry’s BBQ sauce. The pizzas tasted delicious! Very cheesy and hot. Our favourite was the classic Margherita which had the perfect amount of basil. The cocktails on offer was the Aperol Spritz and the Pimms Cup.<br/><br/>The venue is in prime location overlooking the water front which looks stunning at that time of day!<br/><br/>It’s a very valuable deal so I would highly recommend going!
Melanie (ForeverBrunching)
I loved attending the launch of Bottomless Cargo. This includes unlimited pizza and drinks for $39 from 4:30-6:30pm every Friday night during Winter at Cargo Restaurant!<br/><br/>The restaurant is beautiful. It's located in the perfect position, and it feels like you're sitting in the water at Docklands. Watching the sunset over the water was beautiful. It interior decor is modern and clean.<br/><br/>The drinks packed a flavour and alcoholic punch! I really liked the Pimms Cup, which had a nice fruity flavour.<br/>The pizza choices for Bottomless Cargo includes a classic Margherita & The Cargo (double smoked ham, bacon, red onion, caramelised pineapple and BBQ sauce. I really enjoyed both flavours of pizza, but the Margherita was my favourite. It was so cheesy in the best way. Both pizza's had a lovely thin crust.<br/><br/>The staff kept on bringing out the pizza and drinks which was fabulous!
Cathleen
very nice place to have dinner in. My friend were having her birthday and we chose there for both the location and the taste. It is very close to the Firelight Festival venue and we can see almoat every angle of the street, river and bridge from the restaurant through its French windows. I perdonally love the calamari and the caesar salad. Will definately go next time!
Chi Vu
This place is the best place with a thin based pizza. The view is absolutely spectacular and the sea breeze makes it fresh and cool. The food is a whole new level of delicious. The seafood paella is my personal favorite, absolutely tasty. The salads here are interesting and differently special, the watermelons salad is very fresh and nice. The mushroom pizza is absolutely amazing, the alluring smell of truffle oil makes your mouth water and as you take the first bite, you immediately feel amazed by the majestic taste provided. You should totally try out this place, it is an awesome spot to hang with your friends.
Harry
I ordered Crispy Chicken burger and was delightfully surprised. The contrast of the signature barbecue sauce with the apple coleslaw was a very tasty combination. The scenery onto the dock was also beautiful. Friendly staff were also very accommodating. Would come again.
FoodLoverQueenM
Like a pretty view place in docklands. Heard this place years ago finally got chance to go there. Wedges with bacon is really yummy! Wood pizza is also good.
Burgerman77
Great service and good food. Have been back a couple of times and can’t go past the beef burger with Mac and cheese croquets as an entree. Awesome location, especially at sunset.
Michael Bednarek
To be frank with you Cargo is probably my favourite restaurant in Victoria! And the reasons why is you can get both paella and mac and cheese 👏
Lil Porker
Such a cool place! Had been to the Sydney cargo and wanted to check out Melbourne’s. We all opted for burgers which were amazing. Would love to come back and try something else. Recommend taking public transport as it’s difficult to find parking in the area.
Irene Borges
Amazing view and really great food to go with it. Was a lovely family experience and will definitely be back with friends or visitors to Melbourne.
Melbourne Food Journey
Lots of options so great for a large group. I’ve had the Funghi pizza, quinoa salad and fried chicken burger. I wouldn’t say the food is amazing but it’s decent. Most people I’ve been with to this restaurant also liked the food, the only complaint was about the meat being too tough in the open souvlaki. The paella is expensive but it is enough for two people. Also the ambience from the view of the harbour in Docklands is really nice. I would come here again. If you do come here with a large group, pre-order or you may be waiting a while.
Jacqui Davies
Been to Cargo a number of times. Staff are always lovely. Service is very quick. Food has always been great (I’ve had the fish and chips, and the pulled pork burgers). Obviously the view isn’t too bad.

With beautiful, serene waterfront vista, this place is at a gorgeous location. On a summer evening, it's an ideal spot to wine, done and watch the sunset. The rating is for this and the attentive and friendly service throughout the evening.<br/><br/>The mushroom arancini were fine but didn't inspire us. The beef on my soft shell tacos were really tough and required extensive jaw exercises. My friend chose the open souvlaki, which was very edible but had no magic.
Gary O'Brien
Quite at breakfast time around Docklands but this is a coffee gem if you happen to be there. Check my full review https://www.coffeefourdad.com/coffeefourdad/cargo-restaurant-cafe-docklands

We felt like some paella so Cargo came up with the highest rating on Zomato whilst we were searching. The view and ambience here is great, but the food was alright. We ordered the seafood paella, calamari and pulled pork and soba noodles. The paella was really salty and we found ourselves reaching for water after every few bites. The soba noodles was quite plain and needed a little more seasoning? However the calamari was good.

Absolutely love this place. Especially for breakfast. The food is always fresh, delicious and definitely satisfying. <br/><br/>Ambiance is wonderful. Lovely view of Docklands. <br/><br/>Staff are very quick and prompt.

Nice busy restaurant, be ready to stand in a queue for space. <br/>Went on a date with my boyfriend recently and had an amazing experience. Very nice ambiance specially if u get the nice spot. <br/>Food was good too. We ordered Mac and cheese, lamb sliders. That’s was good enough in quantity for us that we had to cancel out paella 🥘 , and the staff was kind enough to do that for us
Mandy Fung
Great atmosphere, beautiful water views, decent service but unfortunately the dishes consumed tonight was lacking. We had the pulled pork burger which came served with soggy fries, bland polenta chips and an ok pasta. I really wanted to like this place as it's so close to home but I guess I can come back for drinks by the water.

Very pleasant. Beautiful location on the water with outdoor and indoor settings. Stone fired pizzas, good solid western food and friendly attentive service. Reasonably priced. Thoroughly enjoyed eating here. Great for couples or larger groups.

Fantastic place, great quality brekkie. There is also a full selection of alternative milks and lactose free variants. My favourite is Sir Benedict.
Brian Thrush
All the staff were impeccable . Our server Pat should come in for special mention . The food was delicious and well priced . Great location , will definitely be back .

We had this massive debate over which Paella to get because we both love seafood but like all seafood paella, the risk of it tasting like jack all was high. So we ended up going for the Chicken and Pork Chorizo Paella because M promised that it would be off its chops. <br/>The dish was indeed flavorsome and not too soggy. <br/><br/>Calamari with Watermelon. H was disappointed when it came out with one little piece of watermelon but the calamari itself was crunchy and chewy on the inside like how it should be. Drizzled with a bit of lemon and paired with the Aioli, this was a side to order. <br/><br/>Feeling a little meaty, we also ordered the Spicy Chicken Pizza. The Pizza wasn’t that good thats why we ended up getting it for takeaway. Would recommend you guys go for something else. <br/><br/>To sum it up, this place had good customer service with really nice staff. The paella is a must try and would recommend you guys give the place a shot!
JJB
My boyfriend and I first came here on NYE. It was a great atmosphere, great food and drinks and a stunning view of the water. Have been back since then and the food and atmosphere was great once again. Always an enjoyable experience here and the staff are always very friendly. Would definitely recommend coming here.

We stumbled upon this place our first night in Melbourne and loved it. The cocktails were truly delicious, filled with fresh fruits, and we shared the fish and chips and a quinoa salad with brisket. Both were fresh and exceptional. Our waitress was super sweet and answered questions to make sure my dietary restrictions were met. Choosing restaurants on the fly can be tough and I hate wasting a vacation meal on subpar food but this place totally delivered!
Le_orange
Simple food, cool atmosphere and good customer service. Everything is reasonably priced, particularly for the area. Wouldn’t return here purely for the food, but great for an easy meal before a night out.
Adam Harsley
We chose this place for a start due to its location and the magnificent view it’s got looking over the waters & buildings surrounding it. The food took long to prepare & when we asked the waiter how far from surving indicating to him it’s been 20-25 mins since we ordered. He literally denied that with an offending attitude & saying it will take another 20-25 more mins to prepare, instead of going back to the kitchen to pass our enquiry. Anyway, the food came 1 after he left. So based on that, I have to say the waiter who surved us was not very friendly. As for the food, my wife & my self ordered scrabbled eggs on toast with Hollandaise sauce. The eggs were normal, bread is not that fresh & the sauce they brought was no where near to a real hollandasie sauce where it should be sweatish, creamy & thick. Although the resturant was kinda busy due to its location, but they really need to work on the taste of their food and train their staff on how to be friendly with customers.
Jon
Bad attention to service. Only attended to large groups and forgot about other tables. Took over an hour to get main meals.. not good enough. Need to sort out service and attention to customers
The Fo0die
Note that thefo0die.com rating is a 3.5 but in Zomato's rating system, it is closer to a 4.<br/><br/> Fo0die dined as a guest of Cargo and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.<br/><br/>Located just by the water in Docklands, we arrived at the 5 year old venue via tram from work on a Friday evening. Approaching the venue, we could see that the venue has floor to ceiling glass windows right around the venue to ensure best views of their waterfront location. Large bench tables under gazebos occupy the front of the venue.
Annika Höfermann
Food was so good that I came back for dinner after spending lunch here. For lunch I had the saganaki which was really good! The dinner lamb shoulder was a little disappointing. It was a little tasteless and the fries were boring. The dessert were waffles with ice cream and tim tams which were delicious. Service was perfect despite of how busy it was. I will definitely be back!
Chronicles Of Nardia
Cargo is a casual dining restaurant located on the water at New Quay, Docklands. Cargo has plenty of seating outside as well as a beautiful setup inside featuring floor to ceiling windows with perfect views of the water & surrounding areas. We were thrilled to visit on a sunny, warm, spring day, the views were stunning. <br/><br/>The menu is extensive so we had trouble choosing. Our lovely waitress Laura helped with suggestions & we ordered a few dishes to share. <br/><br/>The calamari with watermelon, cucumber & aioli was a delicious starter. The calamari was very tender & the crumb was light & crunchy. The watermelon & cucumber were nice accompaniments too. <br/><br/>The Saganaki arrived at the table on a sizzling pan, with red grapes & balsamic. It was charred, salty & oozy and we ate this in record time. <br/><br/>We also tried the Seafood Paella which seemed appropriate given the amazing water views. It was a visually beautiful dish, packed with plenty of seafood including mussels, prawns & fish pieces, it tasted even better than it looked. <br/><br/>We finished with coffees & dessert. The deconstructed cheesecake with honey joy crumbs, passionfruit & fresh fruit was a delicious creamy cheesecake & lovely fresh dessert. The choc chip waffles were served with with tim tam crumble, chocolate caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream & fairy floss. The waffles were light & we loved the presentation of this dish. <br/><br/>We thoroughly enjoyed our long lunch at Cargo, the food was impressive, stunning views & fantastic service. Thanks so much for having us.
Eating Away Melbourne
Love Cargo, always come here for a quick dinner if Im in the area. we had a birthday dinner here the other day and it was lovely. <br/><br/>Ordered the arancini and Saganaki for entree they were both really nice! My main seafood Paella wasn't the best but everyone else seemed enjoyed their food. I tried a bit of the fish and chips and the grilled chicken they were both nice!<br/><br/>Ordered everything on the dessert menu to share and they were all very good. Service was very friendly with banters!
Miss T.A
Nice view of the quay. Came her for dessert and drinks only. Deconstructed cheesecake was delicious and not too heavy. Efficient and friendly staff. Will come back to try other items on the menu.

A very mixed review of our visit to Cargo last night. While the food and venue were superb the service was perhaps the most woeful I have had in recent times which absolutely impacted on our enjoyment.<br/><br/>We came to Cargo ahead of a concert at festival hall and were seated at a table looking out over the amazing evening view of Docklands. As a venue location it can’t really be beaten as its right there on the waters edge. The staff member wanted to immediately take our drinks order before we had even finished sitting down and we told her we needed a few minutes to read the menu. Big mistake ... it took something in the vaccinity of 20 minutes for her to return to us and take our drinks order (and food order at that stage). We had made eye contact with her a ton of times but she was clearly too busy and ignored us. We had even pulled other staff aside asking if we could order from them but they clearly had their own areas to look after. <br/><br/>We ordered a couple of cocktails and beer along with an open souvlaki, chicken burger and a mushroom pizza. Interestingly enough the food came out really fast... and without our drinks which we had to follow up on. It seemed like if we hadn’t pressed for them to be done in order to accompany our food we might have still been waiting.<br/><br/>Food wise absolutely no complaints. The open souvlaki was served in a hot metal plate with lamb, chips, pita, salad. Lamb was tender and tasty. <br/><br/>The pizza was lightly truffled and had a good base... more crispy that chewy. <br/><br/>The chicken burger was also tasty and chicken tender.<br/><br/>Our passionfruit Moscow mules was visually stunning and presented in a copper mug while the cosmopolitan came well shaken and tart.<br/><br/>Our next interaction with staff was again problematic. Trying the get someone to print our bill and help us leave took an age. Nothing more frustrating than being ready to leave and wanting to pay, not having a queue to pay but not being able to get a staff member to help us get out of there. <br/><br/>If they could fix their front of house, or hire more staff if need be, then Cargo could be great as their food really good value for such a wonderful location.

Cargo is the best Café in Docklands. My husband and I have been dining there for years now and it has never disappointed us. The quality of the food is amazing and the owner is lovely and makes us feel at home. The prices are affordable and they have plenty of kids menu options. I couldn't speak highly enough of this place.

Location - Perfect <br/>Music - Perfect <br/>Food - Good <br/>Service - Good <br/>Value for money - Very Good <br/>Company - Your luck<br/>Very good for a brunch place. Lazy Sunday meals by the dock.

Great venue, views, vibe, service and food. Had the wagyu burger and it was one of the best i have had in a while cheesy juicy charry and smokey all at once. 4.5 *s if i could.
Mark Sewell
We bring our club here every few months and always have a great time. The food is top quality and priced quite reasonably. Staff are great and nothing is ever too much to ask. Do yourself a four and check it out
Jess_foodie
Cappriciossa pizza and fish & chips. Good but not the best I’ve had. Even Urban Grooves tastes better than this shop. But nice staffs, has space for improvements. Good job guys
The_littlehungrylife
On a wet, cold and windy day! Cargo is somewhere I would travel just to have lunch and a cup of warm mulled wine! <br/><br/>The service here was amazing and the staff were so patient, especially as my husband and I are so picky with our food. <br/><br/>We ordered lattes, mulled wine, the potted Violet crumble, pulled beef soft taco and the pork and chicken paella. I have to say the paella was by far the best I’ve ever had. It was pack with flavour, perfect size to share and I loved the little crispy bits. The mulled wine was beyond amazing! I would come back just to have a glass or two. <br/><br/>Overall this is a place I’ll be returning to and would highly recommend other to visit. <br/><br/>The only downfall is the parking and location. It was a bit tricky to find and there isn’t many good parking spot. However this to me is a minor issue.
Daniel
Staff were amazing from the moment we walked in and complimented with mouth water food made a such a lovely weekend experience. I had a paella, beef taco and mauled wine. Would come back again to try other dishes!! The mauled wine was warm mixed with spices! Never had such a unique experience.
Mridul Agarwal
One of the best vegetarian food i have had in Melbourne. Mac and cheese croquettes were an absolute delight . Then came the vegetable paella full of flavours cooked to perfection. Had mulled wine with cinnamon for drinks which was refreshing. Ending the dinner with violet crumble which again did not disappoint at all. Totally loved the place.

4.5 instead of just 4. We simply love going to Cargo. Food is great, ambiance is beautiful and the whole vibe is positive....isn't it enough to have a lovely time? <br/><br/>Nothing that we have ordered so far has ever been anything less than excellent. Beef and Cauliflower Croquettes - Excellently crisp and went perfectly well with modernized version of kasundi (we love any kind of kasundi, a special West Bengal mustard paste ). Soft Shell Taco had super moist and beautifully braised beef and chipotle mayo added the much required zing to it. Crispy chicken burger as the name suggests, perfectly crisp and yummy chicken stuffed in a very fluffy buns. Open Souvlaki had the most juiciest lamb we have eaten in Melbourne. <br/><br/>Attendants are very sweet. In all worth every cent spent.
Byron Carelse
Great views and food! The saganaki is to die for, and the menu is great and reasonably priced. Couldn’t recommend this place enough to everyone.

Cargo is an amazing restaurant serving great food with stunning view of the Docklands harbour. We got to try a few dishes from their menu. Our favourite dish is the paella, it was so good! We would definitely go back again as I love everything about this place.

A beautiful dining location in the heart of the Docklands, with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the Melbourne Harbour, Cargo is a splendid restaurant with vibes suited to any occasion – whether a casual yet classy business lunch, a vibrant time with the family, or an elegant date night. The harbour location is gorgeous, and complemented well by the friendly and caring service. With a full serviced bar, inventive and delicious cocktails, as well as care in their flavour choices, Cargo is a restaurant I wouldn’t hesitate to return to.

Disappointing to average ... Had a group lunch on a Friday not long ago ... <br/><br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Feedback as to the dishes were mostly average as follows: Wagyu burgers were nothing special (certainly not bad but in no way newsworthy or worth returning to pay $18 for) ... Similar response for the pastas (carbonara and spaghetti w/ meatballs)... Apparently the mushroom pizza was fine.<br/><br/>My dish of seafood paella was soundly disappointing; $34 for a lunch and I would expect to come out sated, satisfied, and looking forward to a re-run. No ... While the seafood was fresh, it looked like the seafood suppliers provided only juveniles (the mussels were about the size of a 20c piece!), the rice was bland and claggy of which I left 90% uneaten. While the waitress did offer to pack it up for take-home, my response was a resounding 'no thanks' ... I didn't run off to leave feedback from the safety of my browser, I did indeed stop to leave my feedback to Cargo at the time. They didn't seem to care! <br/><br/>Value for money on the paella: 6 mussels, 3 prawns; some (maybe 4?) small pieces of fish ... meant that each bite cost me around $2.60 ... Which might have been fine had I not left still hungry and underwhelmed. Actually had the rice been of a reasonably tasty standard, I would have certainly gone away sated as the rice portion was substantial indeed.<br/><br/>Disclaimer: I do realise that food experience can change day-to-day depending on the chefs-of-the-day so perhaps others have found better gastronomic delight here at other times!<br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Attentive and responsive once their attention was grabbed<br/><br/>Location and ambiance: 5/5 <br/>Who doesn't love a dockside setting on a lovely summer day?!
Cece Huang
It’s great, friendly staff, nice environment, beautiful sunset during my dinner wiz my friends, not too pricey. It s a very good choice to go during holiday

I was excited to receive the invitation to dine at Cargo having visited the restaurant when it was previously Mecca Bah many years ago. I was delighted to see it retains its impressive atmosphere which is inevitable when you are located on the water with gorgeous floor to ceiling glass windows. <br/>The intention here was to create a casual dining experience with superb ambiance so you can get a relatively inexpensive meal and still enjoy the stunning view. This fills the previous gap in the market given the surrounding restaurants mostly steer towards fine dining. <br/>We ordered a couple of cocktails to start and were suitably impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed my passionfruit Moscow mule. It had a strong ginger beer taste which worked well with the mint and was very refreshing. The espresso martini and apple pie cocktail were also well executed.<br/>We commenced the meal with the calamari entree which was very fresh. There was much to chose from for mains so we decided to share the seafood paella, open souvlaki and grilled chicken dishes. The paella was well cooked and generously portioned. It was visually stunning which was a common theme across all the dishes.<br/>The souvlaki has some extremely tender slow cooked lamb shoulder and was another large serving. All of the food is certainly very good value given the reasonable cost and sizeable serves (not to mention location location location). The grilled chicken dish was very flavoursome and kind of a diy taco dish. All quite good choices to share. <br/>Dessert was an almost unbearably tough choice but we eventually settled on the deconstructed cheesecake and violet crumble. The cheesecake appealed to me as it had a honey joy crumb (a great nostalgic treat for me) and it was a perfect silky texture. Violet crumble piqued my interest as I knew it was presented pot plant style which was quite intriguing. This was rather unique and definitely had wow factor. The flavours were strong but complimented each other when eaten together. Overall I was pretty impressed. Cargo does a casual meal exceptionally well

Got takeaway pizzas here today to take on the boat right nearby. Excellent service and great pizzas, light base and fresh toppings so you arent left feeling bloated as pizza can do. Great food, staff, location 💙

An amazing place located by the waters with a beautiful view of the city. If you are looking out for a place to capture the beautiful sunsets over a glass of wine with some amazing food, Cargo is the perfect place to be.

Amazing views across Docklands and of the bridge! Food was average in both cost and quality, as was the service, and the limited vego options. Nice place for a drink at sunset

Came for brunch, it’s located in a nice setting overlooking the water. Lots of outdoor seating. <br/>Food was nice but my husbands meal was cold, as was his coffee which took a long time to arrive. My latte tasted like the coffee was burnt. Staff were friendly. OK overall for something low key.

Outstanding food. I can highly recommend the spaghetti and meatballs smothered in a tasty, rich tomato sauce. Also the vegetarian paella is to die for. Check it out.

Breakfast items were just okay, nothing too special. Their breads are dry and tough. Tad overpriced for what you're getting.<br/>Attentive staff and great location with very nice seating, however.

Had a nice late lunch, lovely views with friendly staff. Experienced some minor setbacks to the perfect dining experience. But overall enjoyable. Had a range of gluten free options to cater to everyone. Major critics, having a different area set up for those with prams as it gets too cramped, and to cook meals with all the ingredients listed and not leave out items.

This restaurant is really beautiful, clean, amazing service and great food. It was so nice eating dinner and enjoying the water views. Food was amazing I loved everything about it. Prices are very reasonable. Will definitely go back

Have a drink with your friends in weekend, riverside view. Tasty food. You sure will have a wonderful weekend in Cargo. I like their salad, never boring.
Little Bit Of Everything
Located by the water, sunsets are magically beautiful. On a nice warm evening siting down and sipping away wine is what I do every time I end up at Cargo. There food is delicious and served pretty quick. Have not tried any of their Pizzas, the selection from Pots and Pans are pretty good.

Came here a few weeks ago for dinner. We had :<br/>-Seafood Paella.<br/>-Open Souvlaki ( slowed cooked lamb shoulder with tabouleh and herbs chips).<br/>- Huli Huli grilled chicken served with a capsicum, black & corn salsa, tortillas, sour cream, lime & herb salad.<br/>- 2 Red wine.<br/><br/>We enjoy all the food that night, everything was fresh and tasty, price was good and the portion sizes was ok too. Love the view of this restaurant, we sat by the window. They were nice to let us pick where we want to sit because we came on the week day and wasn't too busy. Our male wait staff that night was friendly and helpful. <br/><br/>At first when we arrive, no one was at the front to serve us, we had to ask the chef where do we go. Then when we went in, a few staff was looking but didn't help us. Finally one guy came over to help us and then let us sit where we wanted. After that the customer service was good. 😀

Located by the waterfront at Docklands, Cargo is a relaxed restaurant with stunning views and a broad menu spanning pastas, pizzas and a wide assortment of mains and salads. The space is bright, airy and modern, boasting high ceilings and large outdoor seating areas which are perfect for lounging on a weekend and private functions.

With bistro (pre order/paid) and restaurant dining options, cargo caters to all. A gorgeous position on the water in the Docklands, you automatically feel like you’ve retreated into a holiday. The entrees are fantastic- we loved the saganaki with grapes and honey, the Mac and cheese croquettes which were super cheesey and dense (in the best way) and the watermelon salad which was refreshing. For mains we ordered the Margherita pizza which was very thin in both base and toppings but decent. The mushroom tacos (a vegetarian alternative to the original tacos on the menu) were incredible- so many different mushrooms and textures, creating a lot of flavour. They are also huge in size. Cargo also offers an extensive drinks menu and a great dessert menu too. The deconstructed cheesecake was one of the best cheesecakes we’ve had in a while- rich yet light and super tasty. We highly recommend cargo as a great Docklands spot for a bite to eat or drink located on the beautiful water.

I tried cargo a few nights ago for the first time and the food was absolutely beautiful. I was tossing between the Huli-huli grilled chicken and the fish and chips. In the end I decided to get the fish and chips and it was delicious. Battered fish and chips with a delicious tartare sauce, what more could u ask for!! The view was absolutely beautiful at night and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. The staff were so nice and helpful as well. Definitely coming back again, can't wait to try other things from there!!!

Love it when a plan comes together, 8.00am Sunday morning we're at New Quay and so is the sun, after many days of hiding behind clouds. We were able to sit outside, right on the water's edge, and could examine the menu in very pleasing surroundings. The heaters were put on outside, just in case. The Lovely Man decided very quickly we needed to come back for lunch, such are the delights on the menu, but right then, we were there for breakfast.<br/><br/>Our very bubbly waitress was quick to offer drinks, and there would be only only disappointment, and it's a minor one - tea bag for my green tea, it's such a lovely place, loose-leaf tea. Yes, that's the biggest issue I had with this place. <br/><br/>Everyone was satisfied with their breakfast - but mine was the best! 'Sir Benedict' - double smoked ham, two poached eggs (perfect), Sriracha hollandaise, tomato and coriander salsa, jalapenos and herb salad on multi-grain toast. The zingy salsa, the super-fresh herbs and the pickled jalapenos worked beautifully against the 'regular' flavours of a benedict. I was so very happy eating this, in the sunshine, on a Sunday. Nothing could beat it. The other dishes: Chocolate Chip Waffle with maple syrup and ice cream, 'Break-The-Fast' eggs, and 'Eggs as you like 'em' - with avocado mash were given the tick of approval by the rest of my dining party. The coffees, hot chocolate and iced-chocolate were all very pleasing.<br/><br/>Wonderful!

Water front spot. Easy and short stroll from the carpark near the Giant ferris Wheel. Relax setting, friendly staff. Table for eight. Saturday arvo, Quick seating, space between tables comfortable. We had branch here and found the easy menu quite a treat. Breakfast dishes can be as filling as you like. Waffles yum not too sweet. Jugs for drinks very decent size. The battered fish and chips was delish. Definitely worth checking out.

Beautiful location, many spots around the edge to view the Docklands. The open souvlaki was delicious. Definitely will come back again. Great service aswell!

The wood fire pizzas are amazing! There was nothing better than dining with views of docklands in such a welcoming and comfortable environment! Would highly recommend :)

Friendly service and fantastic ambiance overlooking the New Quay. We ordered the open lamb souvlaki with chips (good portion but the Lam was not very tender), crumbed calamari (a bit bland and required salt and pepper to taste) and the beef meatballs (very filling). Overall a pleasant dining experience!

Initially entering the venue we were not greeted and once seated apparently all we needed was a glass of water for the next 20-30minutes. In fact, a waiter managed to clear two tables within arms reach of our table before we even got a glance. Whilst taking our order, the waitress appeared to have difficulty processing our order, which consisted of asking for a lemon lime bitters, and a cognac (of which she displayed no knowledge of the drinks menu), to be accompanied with an entree of calamari and chips, which from experience is a pretty simple concept to grasp. This was to be followed with two pizzas; a lamb pizza, and a porchetta pizza. After placing our order, we were promptly forgot about whilst other patrons who walked in much later than us were on their second course and almost ready to leave. Once the other patrons recieved their bill we had been present with our entrees, the menu promised lightly crumbed calamari but instead recieved $2 fish and chip shop fried calamari. After our Coles brand crinkle cut chips had gone stale we began to question if they were building the woodfire oven while we waited for our pizzas. Eventually after the restaurant had cleared, our pizzas finally arrived. We had high hopes for the lamb pizza, which from previous experience was amazing. However, this time around the only way to describe the taste of the meat hitting your pallette resembled the experience of shoving a dirty mouldy dish rag down your throat. Needless to say being somebody who never spits out food or hardly leaves a plate empty this is a dish I wouldn't even give to the starving. With the other pizza I found myself questioning whether Cargo were cutting costs on the topping department as it appeared that maybe somebody had already picked off the best bits....which happened to be all of the toppings. <br/>Here are some tips to improve on the disaster that we were force fed:<br/>1. Have your staff know the menu, it's always disappointing to have a happy and chirpy waitress but have them unable to understand what you want.<br/>2. Pay attention to your customers ie: don't clear tables when it is obvious that customers are ready to order.<br/>3. Ask how a meal is going a few minutes after delivering it, instead of ignoring them and chatting up other tables.<br/>4. There is no way that a pizza that doesn't even have any topping should take more than 20 minutes in a restaurant with less than 10 patrons, perhaps work on either not forgetting orders, or the speed of your cooks/chefs.<br/>5. Taste the food before it goes out, although you may not like the idea of eating a dish rag, imagine how the customer feels when you decide it's a good idea to feed it to them. This critique of the pizza may be harsh, but don't try and fix what ain't broke in the first place.<br/><br/>In the end, The only redeeming qualities of this 'restuarant' were the chips and the lemon wedge that accompanied the calamari. We really hope that other customers don't have to experience what we did.

Good food with nice view. They get a real good fusion menu. Mexican, Mediterranean, Asian... Just name it Cargo won't let you down. The service is quick and okay. Worth to go back to try something more.
Split The Bill
A large establishment seating up to 300 people overlooking the water at Docklands . We were impressed right away and then as each of our selected dishes appeared we knew we were on to a winner. <br/><br/>Our entrees consisted of saganaki and octopus and orange salad. The saganaki was amazing drizzled with balsamic vinegar and grapes. We could have easily had a second! The octopus salad was very refreshing and complimented the saganaki well. <br/><br/>For our mains we decided upon the Pulled Pork and Soba Noodle Salad and the Open Souvlaki. The slow cooked meat in both these dishes was sooo delicious and full of flavour. Mixed in with the accompaniments, we were on cloud nine! <br/><br/>We finished our lunch off with the most delicious dessert we had had in a very long time. Banofee sundae with banana fritter, salted caramel, biscuit crumbs and caramel ice cream was recommended to us by the lovely waitress who said it was her all time favourite. Well we can understand why!!! Yum! <br/><br/>The service was excellent to us and surrounding diners. The portions were generous, it is reasonably priced, the food was very flavoursome plus you have a view overlooking the harbour. What's not to like!!! Absolutely nothing. <br/><br/>Thanks so much for allowing us to experience a wonderful establishment! We will definitely be recommending a visit and will be back ourselves!
Just Another Foodie
Ordered the beef burger and it was one of the most disappointing burgers I've ever had. The beef patty tasted like the supermarket freezer ones, quite hard and really dry. There was only a tiny dollop of aioli which made the burger bland and dry. Asked for a side of sauce to go with my fries and was charged $1. Not impressed and wouldn't return. On a positive note the staff were friendly.

Yuck!!!! A Saturday breakfast consisted of: lukewarm coffee, barely cooked bacon, brown, pre-mushed, cold avocado and cold, watery scrambled eggs. Shame the food was so disappointing; friendly staff, quick service and comfy venue.

Come to this place for the views alone or coffee if nothing else. We had lunch here & it was wonderful. Sat outside along the river & thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was fine considering how busy it was. Food was good too.

Went to Cargo with a big group, it was a bridal party after a wedding rehearsal at the function venue upstairs. I am still confused by Docklands, but this venue is in a seemingly nice location, right on the water with views of Etihad Stadium and the Bolte Bridge. I ordered the Huli Huli grilled chicken which was nicely cooked and came with some soft tortillas, sour cream, and a delicious salsa filled with beans and capsicum. Most of the other guests ordered the burgers which also looked delish. Very tasty and reasonably priced if you're looking for modern Australian.

Exteriorly imitating a barge, Cargo restaurant is ideally located along the Docklands wharf overlooking the water. With views of newly built houses and the Bolte Bridge, it’s easy to relax inside the glass-lined restaurant, with a glass of wine in hand. With Cargo being more of a casual and low-key venue compared with its higher class sister restaurant, Berth, the two aptly named venues sitting alongside each other are strategically different in many ways.

It was a brilliant start to the evening with the Wild Mushroom Arancini. Fried to a perfect golden brown, the crisp outer gave way to a cheesy and gooey inner that was stuffed with aromatic mushrooms. Well seasoned, the mushrooms within were juicy and flavoursome, perfectly complemented by the slight tang of the aioli surrounding each ball.<br/> <br/>Located literally on the bank of Docklands, Cargo not only provides excellent views of the harbour, but most importantly, an interesting menu full of delicious, quality dishes that’s executed to a high level.<br/>The unobtrusive yet attentive service, coupled with the great fit out and ambiance, this is the perfect date night venue that won’t break the bank!

Beautifully cooked polenta chips. Crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The cargo sliders -beef was tasty and juicy. Comes in 3 pcs. The Open souvlaki was soft, full of flavour and the herb chips and yogurt complete the dish. My son's commented - I think master chef cooked for us!

Great atmosphere, Beautiful to sit looking out over the water, food is good too, been a number of times now and consistently delicious.<br/>Polenta chips are more like croquettes just as an FYI.<br/>Even the humble Mac and cheese is delicious
