Review Stalactites - Melbourne

Nancy Varkey
Super awesome šŸ‘ŒšŸ™‚ Had the large Mixed platter spit roast with Mixed dips, Pita bread, Feta&olives. Scrumptious food. Lively place. And of course..... the ceiling was marvelously done up with stalactites moulded lighting šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘Œ Staff are friendly. Service is reasonably quick. But the wait is long. Overall a fantastic experience ā A restaurant you absolutely must visit in Melbourne

Visited on a Thursday night, had a wait before were seated. Don't mind the wait, somehow feels ok, that food will be fresh and worth it. Ordered a large mix platter, large chips, hummus and a bread. Chicken was good but lamb just okay. Could have been better seasoned. Hummus was nice, pita was OK. Fries seemed to be from two separate batches, like half fresh and half re fried. Got to sit in a nook, so all in all not very pleased. Portions are good, two people eating couldn't finish it all. Staff were amazing..

One of the juiciest gyros you can fine in Melbourne, it's so soft and tasty!! The dips are also yummy to my taste, and pita bread was flesh, everything was satisfying.ā™” Price is very good for the quality of food you're getting. One of my favourite to keep coming back, except for waiting in line and finding parking in the city haha but we really enjoyed our meal ā™”

This was my second time coming to this restaurant (years apart), and it was just as good as the first time I was here! This time I had the chicken giro souvlaki. Absolutely delicious. Thereā€™s usually a queue to get into this place, but for a good reason (and worth the wait!).

Second time came to this restaurant. You always find a queue outside restaurant but itā€™s moving quite quick. We ordered Hot sausages, Mixed Giros and Athenian Souvlaki. Taste soooo good! šŸ‘šŸ» a little big portion but good!

Stalactites is an iconic Greek restaurant with classic Greek dishes and a unique dining room experience with stalactites hanging from the ceiling (hence the name). The coffee was okay and food were generally pricey for its portion but delicious. Their meat platters are a must-try!
Paolo
The restaurant arranged in a more or less original style, pleasantly informal, tables a little too close together to look like sardines. The meat is very good, tasty and expertly paired with delicious salads. Very friendly staff.
Stella Lim
Had a three to share meat platter which is more than enough even for four of us. Taste good as well. The herbed snapper was delicious too! Pita bread is fresh. The calamari is nothing special. But the Feta spinach pastry was really yummy too! Had a bottle of dry red wine wasn't bad too!

Walked in off the street and waited about 5 minutes at the wait here to be seated sign before being acknowledged. Seemed as though no one wanted to talk to us. Once our waiter showed us to our table the service was excellent. We ordered some Lamb Giros which Iā€™ve had before. They were great. So were the chips. Very fresh, crispy and tasty. Seasoning was really nice. Came out quick, meat was nice with a little bit of crispness. Desert though was a big let down. We ordered the tasting plate. The creme brĆ»lĆ©e was good, but the other three were very ordinary. The ice cream was definitely not a vanilla bean ice cream. It was something straight out of a cheap ā€œhome brandā€ vanilla ice cream bought from the supermarket. There were no vanilla beans to be seen and the flavour was chemical not natural. The baklava was average but tasted like it was microwaved and a bit of brown sugar thrown on top. The galaktoboureko was the worst and tasted like a three day old slice of snot block from an average bakery. Overall we had a happy dining experience, but wouldnā€™t rush back for another visit.

First time at Stalactites and wow. The meal was awesome and so was the service. Highly recommend the Hommus and Pita bread together with the mixed meat Souvlaki.
Christine Laukkanen
Food was absolutely beautiful!! My only 'thing' is that we did have to wait before we were noticed to receive our bill, and by then we went off the idea of the doggie bag because we couldn't finish all that lovely food. Apart from that, fabulous and definitely recommend!! ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½

Service was great and food was wonderful and delicious. Loved everything about it. Would highly recommend and we will be back! ļæ½

Unbelievably good food, the best Greek food I have ever had in Australia. Exceptional flavour and delivery speed was flawless. Will definitely be back.
Linda Croxton
A very busy restaurant. We had a lovely , friendly waitress and great food. There is too much to eat. I would prefer smaller portions. We werenā€™t in a position to benefit from doggie bags freely offered, but the food, wine and evening were thoroughly enjoyable. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Astrid Hutchison
Best Kalamari ever and although very busy, service was excellent fast and friendly. Highly recommend and definitely will be returning.
Tommy Tequila
Bad food bad service i don't recommend it It used to be nice when the greeks owned it
Lisa Burton
Without a doubt the best food i had in my entire visit to melbourne. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

We drove 2 hours to come for dinner and were not dissapointed. The dips are amazing and the Lamb Gyros were delicious. We were a bit reluctant when we seen the big queue outside but it only took us about 20 minutes to be seated. Service was great and our food came out quickly. Will definitely make the trip again.

Got indigestion from the dried-up lamb souvlaki with NO sauce in it. Feedback while paying for the meal. The lady was positive enough to accept it even though she said I should ask for an exchange. I wouldn't need to exchange if it's good in the first place. I shall just stick to my kebabs and hsp. ļæ½

Great service, food never disappoints (best pita bread Iā€™ve ever tasted), always open, whatā€™s not to like?!
Danessa Mickan
Food was excellent. Service was great but main meal came out while we were still eating our entree so we could not eat much of our main meal as the meals were served too close together.
Sarthak & Ishita
We ordered a lamb souvlaki and a chicken souvlaki, had it for the first time and I totally loved it, it was so flavourful and the meat was super tender. We loved it. It is reasonably priced. Always packed with customers and super busy hence had to opt for a takeaway.

I came here because of the high reviews on Zomato and expected to get great Greek food. Unfortunately that is not what I received. Instead what I got was bits of bones in my mixed souvlaki, overcooked and not fresh lamb (the food came out instantly which is an indicator that itā€™s not freshly made), and a lack of any seasoning. Majority of my experience was spent picking out hard pieces of meat from my souvlaki that I couldnā€™t chew, which isnā€™t a pleasant experience at all. Also very disappointed to see that they didnā€™t add chips inside the souvlaki (without an additional cost), which is what differentiates a souvlaki between a kebab. However we instead ordered chips on the side and they were really well seasoned. They also charged a dollar extra to have the souvlaki ā€˜openā€™ which is essentially just a gyro plate (which they sold for just over $30 while the open souvlaki was about half that). Very disappointed in the high prices at this restaurant as it is definitely not justified. The staff were friendly and attentive but not enough to make me come back.

So after long wait visited this place and just enjoyed the food. Lot of vegan and veg options in the menu and best part opens 24 hours.
L

This is one of my favourite Greek restaurants, always packed with customers and super busy! Given the portion, it is reasonably priced for a group of hungry adults. However I wouldnā€™t dine here with my partner, unless weā€™re after hangover food at 1am. Would definitely come back though!

I guess the food wasnā€™t bad. I just guess I really wasnā€™t a fan of it. We got the recommendations from the waitress, but didnā€™t go satisfied after the meal.

Canā€™t go past the lamb gyros at this place. Always busy, always tasty. Great late night food.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Consistently good food and quick service. No frills restaurant with fresh meals. I recommend the lamb giros and pita with mixed dips!
Eng
In difficult times like this we think of supporting our local restaurants but the experience was terrible. Chaotic process of trying to order a takeaway, the souva taste below average including the service. Expensive as well. Better to take my money elsewhere for more decent food and less arrogant service.
Plain Inari
Best Greek food in cbd and metro areas but service from the team was a bit strange, manager was swift and professional, my order took 25 minutes and I wasnā€™t too sure what took 25 minutes when a lot of the food in my platter was the same as the other dishes that arrived earlier! Maybe it was the pita?
Other than that, still great food and good portions, bit overpriced but oh well šŸ˜…
Foodadventureswithliv
absolutely loved visiting Stalactites! the very busy 24hr coeliac accredited greek restaurant in the CBD was absolutely incredible! i canā€™t fault anything, the service was quick, the gluten free souvlaki tasted amazing and staff are very friendly!

being coeliac i canā€™t have souvlaki, so i was very exciting heading to Stalactites, i got the lamb giros souvlaki and it was delicious!!

would definitely recommend and come back :)

Hard to get a table, price a bit high but food is delicious & authentic
Nesscessities_gluttonness
You need only ever order: mixed giro platter + chips + dips trio + pita bread. You're welcome

Iā€™ve been going to Stallectites for years and itā€™s always a little treat. At $17 for a gyros, I wouldā€™ve expected a little more meat. First few bites and I was literally looking for meat amongst the lettuce. Saganaki wasnā€™t grilled, just a hard cheese. Large bowl of chips which had been reheated from cooked was terrible, they agreeably took them back and bought out some fresh ones. Not worth the $60 and wonā€™t be rushing back there in a hurry..

#Chicken_Giros_Souvlaki

When Iā€™m feel hungry,
I will always search for the easy way to fill the stomach but with some superior tasty foods.
I can say souvlakiā€™s are one of them definitely.

Well, I saw this restaurant and departed into it for @Chicken_Giros_Souvlaki.

A Tender marinated Chicken Giros from the Spit in Pita.

Served in Very quick time.

The marinated chicken which mesmerised me, thinly slicing meat grilled on a vertical rotisserie. served in pita bread as a wrap in a full portion as well with vegetables, tzatziki, BBQ, tamara.

It will be more interesting if you go with extra tzatziki and Tamara dip.
Debby
The most famous Greek restaurant in Melbourne CBD that open for 24 hours. The souvlaki is great and often have queues for takeaway. All the meat in the platter, souva and sausages are juicy, moist, and very tasty. Service is also quick and friendly.
G
Have never had Greek food before but this was so amazing. Decent portion sizes and price. Very tasty. Fast service and great vibes.
Aaaaa
Food was average, service was average. But the worse is they default a $2 donation to homeless people but dont yell you. They try to sneak it onto the bill. So being sneaky like that means to me they are not actually giving to homeless but going to take it as revenue. Donation is good to me but you need to ask so seems like a scam if you ask me. Can try the place for food but just remember to look at your bill.
JJ
Sorry but not tolerating racism anywhere. Born in Australia and not putting up with this at a popular Greek restaurant. No need for the waiter to state that ā€œIN AUSTRALIA we charge extra for things like that.ā€ Was literally just asking a question in Australian English, didnā€™t need to be replied in a condescending tone. ALSO, we were charged extra $2 for donation to the homeless which wouldā€™ve been TOTALLY FINE if they just asked us. Putting that on our bill without us knowing is a bit shady. Mate, weā€™re happy to donate it but putting it as a hidden fee and not telling us... is that something you do to EVERYONE? Are you even donating it to the homeless?

Also their vegetarian souvlaki was not the best, they changed it to a fritter which wasnā€™t appetising. Chips were honestly dry, not just saying the food was bad cause of my experience. Genuinely itā€™s not worth the stars itā€™s been given.

I had Chef Dimitra Melios's traditional homemade Beef Kokinisto for lunch and Seppelt the Drives Chardonnay. It was just amazing.

I had a few hours in Melbs and my friend knew we had to have great food and great atmosphere. ā€˜I will be backšŸ˜‰ā€™

Stopped by after an all-day tour for a late dinner, around 2300. It was still surprisingly still quite busy but mostly for takeaway. If you head in a bit then there is a sign to wait if you wanted to have a sit-down meal.

They have their standard menu as well as a special menu, which was mostly crossed out when I stopped by. They did have quite a lot of different choices but ended up going with the mixed grill to try and get a taste of everything. The plate was stacked with food. Plenty of meat accompanied with nicely fried chips and a Greek salad. the chicken skewers and the lamb cutlets all had that smoky, BBQ taste to them like they were fresh off the grill. The lamb giro was tender and juicy and the bifteki was interestingly spiced. I tried the galaktoboureko for dessert and it was alright. The pastry wasn't crispy anymore but he custard filling was quite nice.

It is a nice place for a meal. It was kinda busy so you can get forgotten, so you might need to flag people if you needed something else after you've been served.
SouthEastEater
Dined in Stalactites for dinner. The restaurant is 24/7 but always appears busy.
Food: a little bit pricy compared to other Greek restaurants around. Ordered the lamb giro.
Service: canā€™t complain. No issues
MelbourneLops
Really good Greek restaurant in the CBD. The gyro was the star of the night but all in all everything was tasty. Nice and busy and super affordable too.
Sam Dze
Overall, the souvlaki was nice and the chips with feta were nicely seasoned. I found the lamb dry, but the chicken was good and I enjoyed the meal.

2.5 stars āļø Mmmm I dunno. I know itā€™s an institution but food is really exxy. Considering I could have gone to Gazi and eat a much yummier version of this for the same price, I just donā€™t see the attraction of Stalactites.

I had their fries to share with colleagues and also the combo (lamb and chicken) gyro wrap. The meat was over salted, the tsakizki just have a slightly sour flavour and the salad was moderately fresh.

The lemon lime bitters wasnā€™t even freshly made either. A bit disappointing about the whole thing really.

Top quality food šŸ˜ so fresh and flavoursome!
All the way from Sydney just to try šŸ‘ŒšŸ½

O my where to start. Thought it would be a great place to go bc the line all day has been out the door. Boy was I wrong. Horrible service, asked for them to hold onion, fries from my gyro and it came w a pound of onion and no hummus. Pita might as well been from a grocery store and 3 days stale. Employees could give a sh*t. don't waste your time or money here. it was so gross

I have been wanting to try this restaurant which always busy, finally scored a lunch with few friends. We opted for shared dishes. The dip platter and flat bread are really enjoyable and tasty, ended up order another one. The meat platter is huge, came with variety of grilled meats. Taste wise was nothing special, the meats were on dry side, perhaps bit too long on the grill. The calamari was also ordinary. The real highlight was the dip platter.

This place is always busy despite it being 24 hours, the slovakis are really good and its perfect for a late night out or dinner.
Jeff Smithson
Great good old fashion health Greek Food! Busy place when we arrived but the wait was worth it,...ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦. the flavour reminded me of a greek friends mothers food when I was 16 and eat at his place, what more can I say
Madison
I was yelled at by the chef, not once, but three times because I didnā€™t hear my number for takeaway. I ended up apologising and felt like an idiot as he berated me for not hearing it in front of all the other customers and staff. I spoke to the head server and explained that I was upset that I was yelled at and her response was ā€œwell, did you not hear your number?ā€ No apology. Disgraceful customer service and will likely never return here.
Connie Lu
Such a great late night venue for late night cravings in the heart of the city. Even though it was late when we can, it was still packed. You can really tell how good it is by looking at the crowds right?

This place has been around forever! Brought back lots of memories when this was the only few places that was still open at 3am! Staff are not attentive & kinda fiesty too! Food came pretty fast, serving portion was decent. Flavours are average. Not sure about the hype as I have had better Greek foods! Worth a try to check it out yourself!

Hello All!

With so many great reviews about the place, you may not even want this one to add. However, I'm here to share my first experience at the restaurant.
Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to sit and eat (which I was dying to, because of how it looks from the outside), so we had to place a take-away order. I won't complain, because we ate it while it was still warm and loved it as much.

We ordered for Mixed Giro Souvlaki - Oh, the size of the Souvlaki!!!! It was huge and heavy for someone who's just getting the hang of Greek food..haha.The bread was fresh and the meat was nicely wrapped with it. Every piece of meat was juicy and delicious. The only thing that got me was the bottom of the wrap by the time we almost finished it. It was gradually becoming moist and gooey as we reached the end, resulting in an open bread with meat and sauce. But I'm not complaining about that either.

My overall experience was good and I would love to come back for some more.

Food - 5/5
Ambiance - 5/5Ā
Staff - 5/5
Quantity - 5/5

We ordered the mixed meat platter - chicken and lamb; grilled sausages , mixed dips and pita bread! Satisfying meal! Greek food at its best! :)
HEARD Magazine
A late night favourite within the Melbourne CBD, Stalactities is the home of souvlaki it can be argued.Ā

While they have an extensive menu of Greek classics what you really want here is their souvlaki. Whether its chicken, lamb a mix of both with some chips inside you can't really go wrong her.Ā

Stalactities a great anytime of day but if you are heading here after a late night be warned that there might be line out the door dining in or take away this place is always busy.

The best part of it all is that this place is always open, thats right they run 24 hour day to make sure you always have access to a great souvlaki.
Emerensiana Vitalis Handoko
Best Greek restaurant in Melbourne for sure
All the meat and bread that they served were fresh and so delicious
Need to book a table ahead if you want to eat here as they always busy
Great service and friendly staff too

Great food at a great price. Best souvlaki I've ever had. The other 3 people had a meat platter. It was superb. Starter of pita and dips was sensational. Staff were efficient and knowledgeable. We dropped in for dinner on a Monday night. The restaurant was busy, but we were "managed"effectively.
Alexandra
The food is consistently good. Ordered platters to share this time but I think I prefer just a good old souvlaki. The service was good and we were well looked after. There was a huge queue on a cold and rainy Sunday night so maybe pop in early if you don't want to wait.
ALICE āš”ļø
this place is honestly below average but over priced, thereā€™s actually no customer service here at all which is disappointing we came in on a sunday night and even though it wasnā€™t busy and there were free tables all around we were squished in a corner table where i could hear the conversation between another couple three seats down šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

letā€™s talk about the food:
WE ORDERED
šŸ„™ Mixed Giro $32 āļøāļø
šŸ„™ Open Lamb Fillet Souvlaki $18.50 āļøāļøāļø

I find it funny how you guys charge an extra $1 to open the lamb souvlaki if I had known I wouldā€™ve just opened it myself šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

For $32 the Mixed Giro was beyond disappointing there are other Greek restaurants that serves double the serving for $10 less with better service and better quality food.

No rush to come back at all šŸ™…šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Very disappointing dining experience. Pita bread was burnt (80% of the surface was charred black) and hard - signs of being reheated multiple times. There was hair in the dip, which got replaced. Made the complain and got minor discount for the bread, but were still charged full price for the dip. Dolmades and slow cooked lamb was over bathed in lemon juice. Very disappointed, especially after how much I have raved about the place to overseas visitors and when they went there it was a BIG let down.
Some Bunee Loves Food
3.5. The souvlaki was OK, meat had some chewy bits which i had to spit out but overall good. It had a charred flavor to it.

Always busy and sometimes a long line to get in.
Maria Elfrida
Amazing greek food in Melbourne! The tatziki, hummus, and every dip was very nice! We even ordered the pita bread twice because we really love the dip! The lamb giros souvlaki also the best one! It was huge and the lamb meat was very tender and juicy. One other meal we forgot the name, it was made of eggplant and potato but it was also very nice! We even didnā€™t expect it will be very nice! Overall, it was a very nice dining experience.
Alicia Maree Andrews
If youā€™re looking for a place that has a great vibe, delicious food and you leave feeling full then this is the place to come!! Our friends took us here while visiting Melbourne and Iā€™m so glad! The food was full of flavour and really well priced! The place felt very clean and warm. 100% will be returning when we get the chance!!! šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Went here the other day for a family dinner. Super busy joint with a line to get in most nights of the week. We ordered a lamb platter, dips, bread, saganaki, chicken and all was pretty tasty.

I love this place so much! The only reason I didnā€™t give them 5 stars is bcs of some inconsistencies in food quality but consistent in bad service šŸ™ƒ

FOOD: Whenever I go to Stalactites, I would order a Chicken Gyro, Tzatziki, Hummus and Pitas. Hands down, Stalactites has the BEST hummus I have ever had! Now alot of hummus Iā€™ve tried is usually abit more on the sour side but Stalactites nailed it with it being salty and sour perfectly! Its abit more watery so it goes amazingly with dipping for the gyro. The tzatziki has its good and bad days, when itā€™s good its AMAZING but when its bad, its watery and tastes like nothing. The chicken gyro is so addictive and so good but be prepared for alot of oil. The pita however is always a winner for me and I will always LOVE their pita. Itā€™s not your usual thick bready pita, itā€™s more roti-like than flatbread like. Their food is so fabulous but I just wished it was ALWAYS fabulous and not having good and bad days.

SERVICE: Some of the servers here are nice but usually theyā€™re pretty rude and couldnā€™t bother about you. It really doesnā€™t matter too much to me because I take away all the time anyway but itā€™d be a much better experience if the service was as good as their food.

Stalactites is an amazing and un-challengeable Greek food place and I genuinely love their food alot and know that I will keep returning, tho not perfect, it certainly is very very good.
Gastrology
One of Melbourne's longest established and best known Greek restaurants, Stalactites has been owned and operated by the same Greek family since 1978 and is quite simply a Melbourne institution. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week, Stalactites is a must for Melbourne diners.
Andrew Fernandes
Mixed feelings here. I liked the food. It was tasty. Ordered the lamb chops, mixed dips and tyrokafteri with pita. My veggie friends had a veg souvlaki.

The dips consistency was a bit watery though. The pita was different from anything Iā€™ve had. More chewy.

I liked the setting. The ceiling gave the impression of a cave. There was a good bustle about the place and seemed quite popular especially for take out.
Vivien šŸ“šŸ™
Been going here for years and can say quality is still as good as ever. Meat is juicy and tender and their opening hours are so good- meaning I can meet my cravings whenever I want.
Chef ASD
First thing I want to say about this restaurant big potion of shavarma. So when you have a plan to visit this restaurant make your order bases on your group.

But food very nice, and good Middle Eastern taste. Slice potato very soft and tender also babaganush out standing.

Nice chicken shavarma Crust out line then soft meat. Beef we don't like much.

Service OK normal....
AH
Both eat-in and takeaway here have been great in my experience. The meat can be very salty on occasion, but the rest is always great. I particularly like the dips that always taste really fresh. It can get very busy though, so Iā€™d avoid it on a Friday or Saturday night.
That_Foodie_Friend
Fantastic experience at this family business. We came earlier so we were able to skip the lines, but it was still super busy. We loved the fast service and the fresh food made on site. All our food was hot and the waiters were knowledgeable. We highly recommend, just watch out for the long lines.
Peter Vu
Had the mixed giro, was very filling was delicious and was a great experience. the food was all great and the ambiance was thriving. would definitely come back

Perfect for a late night souvlaki. Quick and friendly service and the lamb souvlaki amazing!! So tender. I will 100% go here again next time I visit Melbourne.
Hungry Diner
Best midnight lamb souvlaki Iā€™ve ever eaten.

We also got the saganaki that was heaven!!

I canā€™t wait to come back here, this place was packed and so fun.
Juerong Qiu
I really love the calamari. Almost every table ordered this dish. It was fresh and crispy. Chips were very tasty too. But the grilled chicken was a bit overcooked and charred.
Tushar Pasrija
Thatā€™s my go-to place after Friday/Saturday Nights. Undoubtedly the best greek food in Melbourne and yes they 24/7! Tip: do try their mix platter!
The Brunchabout Diaries
This is probably one of the more upscale 24 hour food places in Melbourne. The food is tasty, reasonably priced and the interior is comfy and cool (just look at the roof!)

I got the closed lamb souvlaki (you can get them open or closed) and a bowl of these lovely crisp chips. Everything was absolutely delicious, especially the tender meat in the souvlaki.

This is a great food stop, both when youā€™re sober or drunk.

In the latest Coeliac Australia newsletter, you may have seen three new accredited establishments. Two of which are owned by the same family, Stalactites which has been in the family since 1978 and Hella Good. Naturally, I had to make sure to visit and review them for Coeliac Awareness Week. Located at 177/183 Lonsdale Street in the Melbourne CBD, Stalactites is easy to find.
Zoe Chin
As a business, Iā€™m not sure whether Stalactites has realised the sheer impact it has made on my life since their decision to become Coeliac Association Accredited. It is only as a young Coeliac with an active social life, will one be able to imagine the disappointment and sheer isolation they feel when they are unable to satisfy their late night munchies, simply because there were no safe options around at 2 am in the Melbourne CBD. It was such a tragedy for me to lose late night Greek food, so boy am I so so so glad Iā€™ve gotten it back!

The restaurantā€™s decision to cater to the Coeliac community, and even go the extra mile to assure us as such by getting themselves certified by the Coeliac association, shows us that as a business, theyā€™re considerate of their customersā€™ circumstances. Furthermore, we arenā€™t just catered for with pathetic ā€˜bare minimumā€™ options either, as in addition to their delicious meats, salads and dips, they even have delicious gluten-free pita (yum, yum, yum!) on offer!

Thank you for allowing our community to enjoy delicious late night Greek food once more WITH peace of mind that we wonā€™t be getting sick for it- you have no idea how much it means to all of us! ā˜ŗļø

At Stalactites you know you can have a bite at any time if the day even after a long night out. As it's open 24 hours you know that your lamb souvlaki will always be fresh as the place churns out quite a bit as there are always customers in there. My usual orders are lamb souvlaki with extra sauce and chips and Coke are my go to eat and the best thing is you will know it's always available.
Teara Robertson
Check your bill. We came in in the early hours of the morning. Wasnā€™t offered an eftpos receipt and when I asked for one there was a $6 discrepancy. The money was refunded after I requested it however no apology was offered and it didnā€™t seem like it was a surprise. Was a shame because the kebab was amazing.
Thats My Food
I had heard only good things about this restaurant so the expectations were really high, and I this that did not work well for me. Because my expectations were high it led me to see everything very critically and so I had to give 3 stars to this place(I thought it will be 4).

I have been to this place 3 times now and every time it has been one thing or the other that has bugged me. First lets talk about the positives.

The meat is always fresh from the SPIT. Chicken meat in Giro was really tender and really good flavoured. Meatball pasta was really nice. Meatballs were juicy and had really good flavour. Pasta was nicely cooked. The quality of service is very good, and the best part is that this place is always open.

Now about my not so good experience, I had a mix Giro with a bowl of chips in which the chips were old and soggy. I asked the server to get the fresh ones and she quickly brought back a bowl filled with chips (Top half fresh chips and the bottom half soggy chips). The lamb meat was hot but was really overcooked and dry, which was not very pleasant to eat.

I think that this place deserves an easy 4. I am going to go there again for sure and hope this this time I will not face any disappointments like before.
Vaani Gupta
I have visited this 2 times because i heard about it a lot. But unfortunately i didn't like the food here. I realised that the lamb was dry, but chicken was alright. My fries were not fresh. I loved the staff service. But i expected a lot by food which wasn't good enough.
Dickson Chong
Overall experience was good with delicious Slovakia but only the hummus and baklava were disappointing. Baklava was soft as in been soaked in syrup for weeks. Not recommend
Linnie Eats All The Food
Stalactites is a Melbourne Institution and most Melburnians would have stopped by here on a late drunken escapade as itā€™s opened 24 hours. So when Baby A only has a few nights left in Melbourne before he jet sets off back to QLD, all the babies decided to take him to Stalactite. The fried cheese (saganaki) was very disappointing. It was super duper hard and was not pleasant at all. The bowl of chippies though, were crunchy and seasoned well and the mixed dips were fantabulous!

Fast service and relatively good pricing! The food is delicious. My favourite is the chicken on the gyros meat platter and the eggplant dip. Absolutely delicious. Iā€™ve been going here for years and itā€™s always just as good!

A Melbourne institution. The heart and soul of Melbourne's greek precinct in the CBD. I usually take interstate visitors here. As a local sometimes we dismiss our tourist hotspots as we can be a bit too cool for school. There's a reason why stalas remains popular- tasty hearty Greek food at a reasonable price, great service, cosy fun interior. And its open 24 hours as well!

A must visit when visiting Melbourne.
Best Greek food around! This place stands the test of time, because over the years, time and time again, it never disappoints. I just canā€™t get enough of the Lamb Souvlaki, the Greek Salad is nice too. Considering the price of those dishes the portion size is huge, you donā€™t have to spend much to have a very nice meal here. The service is top notch. The place gets busy so you have to pick your times - but remember thereā€™s always the option to takeaway.

Impressed with this place. It's modern and spacious with a cool stalactite setting. Having been to Greece a few times, I found it hard to find good Greek food in Sydney. This is the first Greek place I visit in Melbourne and I absolutely love their meats and calamari. Got to try the vegetarian platter too and the eggplant is just gorgeous. Another plus are the Greek beers and wine. We were a group and were comfortably sat upstairs. Lovely staff, great service. Also found out that they're open 24/7. How awesome is that?

Amazing starters and mains! Service was excellent and the quantity of the food is great. Good price and pretty reasonable for a meal for two. We've had the share plates to main dishes. Recommend checking this out for some delicious Greek food in you haven't yet.

Quick service and fantastic quality of food. Had the lamb gyro which was had an excellent texture and was value for money. Hardly a wait on a Friday night. Definitely order one dish to share between two people. Itā€™s not the kind of place youā€™d expect to find in the CBD (family friendly) but would visit again.

This place is always packed!! Easy, good Greek food. The Vegetarian Platter was on the small side for $19 with only one Olive I was a bit disappointed. Hubby enjoyed his souvlakia. It can get quite noisy too. Recommend if you are visiting!

Great location, great Greek food, especially the mixed meat platter. Entrees are always pleasant here. This is a loud brash restaurant - especially as the evening gets going, and I recommend it for anyone wanting their Greek fix washed down with some retsina.

Yummiest Souvalaki's in town.. I like them Open, with 2 extra Dips on top of the standard Tzatziki.. and ofcourse the Chicken giros, but lamb is good too..

Didn't like the Saganaki here that much, however, the Pita bread is really light and flavorful.

Love most of their Desserts too!Ā
Only down side - Staff/service can come across as being a bit rude, however, I've found most of the Greek joints to be focusing more on food and creating an energetic and vibrant environment, which can appear a bit loud at times...

But, I love going there for great food and a good ambiance at a great location...

Rude service, apparently customers should not ask about the differences between meals. $31 for a pathetic amount of tasteless food. Save your money and go elsewhere

When you have a craving for souvlaki or some delicious dips and pita bread come here! I always order the open lamb souvlaki as I always make a giant mess with a mess of the rolled up version!

One of the most vegetarian unfriendly places I have been to in Melbourne.

I ordered a vegetarian souvlaki and it was very unappetizing.

The service was a huge problem too. We were a table of 12 (split in two tables) and the gap between our orders was too much. It also took the staff close to 45 mins to even just take our order.

Overall, not worth the time, try someplace else.
Awesome, belt loosening food, marvellous service and a great atmosphere. Have been in a couple of times now and love the place. Created a new love for Greek food.

I like this place, i go here a several times a year and its always tasty.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere.

I usually get either lamb or chicken souvlaki, and they always taste great, very consistent.

Also, they use the right pita bread that makes it !!

Have to admit, this place is a gem in the city, it took my heart at 24*7 & greek. I went here with my friends a couple of days back after a nice comedy gig in the city. I was just amazed by the overall setting, the ambiance, the staff and most importantly the food in here, it took me by surprise.
So we ordered their meat platter for 2. When the plate arrived you might think it isnā€™t that much, but that plate is heavyyy and thatā€™s actually the best part. You get a good balance of lamb chicken n pork. The skewers were my favourite, especially the chicken one. They were nicely grilled and crispy skinned on the outside and really tender on the inside. I just love the homemade greek rissoles, they were so moist and ofcourse the pork sausages cut into small bits, were just my favourite but only if i could have more. I found that the lamb cutlets were really not my thing thou.
After all of this i really couldnā€™t stand up from my place. I would recommend this place for sure.

Happy dinners with my friends and definitely worth a visit when in Melbourne. The dips are amazing and the Chicken Souvlaki were delicious. We were a bit reluctant when we seen a long queue outside but it only took us a 20mins to be seated. Service was great and our food came out quickly. Will definitely come again.

Came here for a work lunch and ordered the mixed appetiser platter for one. Good value for money - $20 for meats, dips, pita and sides. Service was great, we pre ordered and the meals all came out quickly and together. The pita is buttery and crisp - the stand out!

A perfect place for sharing with friends or family. The meat platter has an abundance of different meats and the meat goes really well with their pita bread. The dips were absolutely exquisite and really recommended to try. The staff there was really friendly too and even recommended us to try the Greek soft drinks which I find delightful.
