Review Hofbrauhaus - Melbourne

Ruben Sanchez
First time and for sure not the last one. Staff was very lovely. Food delicious. We order the feast platter. It says for 2-3 people but we were 5 and we almost couldn't finish it. So much food! There was live music and that made the whole experience more delightful. Very recommended. Also, a good place to celebrate birthdays and other sort of big gatherings.

We did the beer tasting experience today. Incredible beer and awesome food paired with it. Host was knowledgeable and personable. Knew the history of beer and could compare with spirits/wine. Had the best afternoon. Can’t wait to come back!

If you’re looking for traditional German food and beer, this is the perfect place to come! We dined on a Friday evening and were able to enjoy live music while enjoying our beer and extremely flavorsome food! Great that they offer a free 300ml beer if you have tickets for the theatre later that night too. Will be returning again!

We came here on Friday night, and the place was buzzing with people and the live band! We ordered the Lemon Schnitzel - freshly crumbed matters marinated and freshly crumbed chicken breast, chips, slaw, Bavarian mayo. It was out of this world!!! The best in the city. Great selection of Bavarian beer. Make sure you book a table, as it gets packed very quickly. Super friendly service, and quick.

Love this German restaurant in Melbourne's Chinatown area. Friendly service with an authentic local tavern feel (well without the cigarette smoke!). Menu is varied and the serves are super generous. The fried mushroom starter is absolutely amazing! Def recommend this. For mains my mate had the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. It was huge!!! Come hungy, don't eat lunch! This is a marathon meal :) The chicken was tender, only thing I would consider is more sauce please!! I opted for the sausages. OMG so good. Perfectly whipped mashed potato's as well as tangy sauerkraut. Really enjoyed this meal. Well worth the trip to town for such a great experience. Highly recommended.

Now the original flavours of a small state of Bavaria in Germany is hard to find anywhere else in Australia. But friends, @hofbrauhaus_melbourne is where you are guaranteed to find the authentic flavours, vibe, people, charm, decor, drinks and everything of Bavaria in this quaint little tavern style restaurant in an alley in Chinatown, Melbourne, Australia. We had a gala feast at this fantastic German restaurant, with all the traditional Bavarian and German cuisine. Weiner schnitzel, served with cranberry sauce, freshly crumbed veal, potato salad and slaw, so crispy, perfectly tender from inside and with that cranberry sauce, it tasted even more yum. Biergarten Fisch, served with bretzel crusted cod with creamed Bavarian cabbage and fennel, buttered potatoes, lemon cream, such a divine main course, loved the bed of creamy veggies the code was served on more, has a very satisfying and mouth-melting flavour to it, highly recommend! Biergarten Ente, served with pan roasted duck breast, duck leg croquette, fondant potato, roast beetroot and sour cherry sauce. The combination of all the flavours were so sensational in this dish, I felt very festive the moment I took a bite of this dish. The duck breast was very juicy and was cooked to perfection, the croquette of duck leg was the show stopper of this elegant and beautiful main dish. Definitely a must try. We had a flatbread topped with bacon, cheese, rocket and onion with their creamy onion and leek soup of the day. This was a perfect winter gastronomic combo, so heart warming the soup was and the flatbread was absolutely delicious. Must try. And of course, the bretzels were perfect like always. We also had a cocktail called Angela Merkel, which was very refreshing in taste, I would strongly recommend this, even though the German lagers are hard to resist here. The prices are impossibly very reasonable and standard considering the generous portion size of their mains. The service is incredibly awesome, led by a team of friendly, cheerful and helpful team of staff. So guys why not checkout this lovely tavern @hofbrauhaus_melbourne this weekend with your friends/family.

What a fun place. We arrived to hear the band banging out some tunes which was fun. Hofbrauhaus has some great beers, no surprises there I hear you say lol. My Maisel's Weissbeir was fantastic and you've gotta love a stein hahaha. The Rothaus Pilsner was crisp, light and tasty. They also have a new range of vegetarian options which my partner enjoyed such as the cabbage rolls and the potato salad. We didn't try the new vegetarian gnocci this time but we are definitely going back. The pretzels are imported from Germany and they hit the table piping hot! OMGosh they are amaaazing. I could have eaten these all night haha. My pork knuckle was fantastic. Cripsy on the outside, with soft juicy meat that literally fell of the bone. This was perfect. The meat was a little salty, and so moorish. Thanks for the collab.

A very good experience in terms of service and drinks. The beers felt fresh from the keg, nice and chilled. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Giri was our host and he was a good man, total customer satisfaction provided and polite.

I would bring more friends and visit the place again sometime soon.
The only reason for a star rating 4/5 is because I believe the place could do better on kitchen timings as they need to be pushed a little more as there were quite a few hungry customers.

Customer service: Very Good
4.5/5

Ambience: Could be better but good
3.5/5

Food/Drinks: Fresh and timely served
5/5

It’s like our family restaurant! We have been coming in for years and never disappoint! Food is great and very happy venue.

If its a German place your after definelty worth checking out Hofbrauhaus. A german vibe and setting including staff dressed in the attire. Good food and heaps of beer
Cathy
Good atmosphere Good place for a Friday night
Chris Lee
I went here and got the chicken schnitzel lunch special. Killer value. Schnitzel, good amount of chips, slaw and a 300 ml beer for $19. Schnitzel tasted fresh & delicate. Beer was great. I went with the Hofbrau original. Need atmosphere & decorations inside including staff costumes. Super happy with it all!
Steph
Usually come here for Friday drinks but had my team’s end of year lunch here. EatClub offers a 15% discount.

Chicken Schnitzel $14.5 🍗

I really enjoyed the fried garlic potato bread 🍞 (not sure what is the German name) but it was amazing. The chicken schnitzel is pretty good as well tho it took the restaurant ages to serve us the meal. Probably waited a good 30 mins?
ILoveFood
The atmosphere as well as the food here is top notch. Definitely give the beer a try and also the amazing meats!
Dani Boudville
It's exactly what you think it is. Loud and a good time. Lots of beers to choose from and the food is generally great (maybe steer away from the potato dumplings and cheese noodles). Meat platters are enormous and the pork knuckle is the drawcard. They also ring a bell everytime you do a shot and will sing you happy birthday.

If you say hello to Phil he will show you a good time. Best German restaurant in town!

Hofbrauhaus is my go to place every weekend after work. They have this incredibly chill vibe which is very inviting and makes you feel comfortable instantly. While the crowd that I have witnessed is more or less office going people, I’m sure any age group can enjoy at this pub. They serve a wide variety of German Beer and food. Vegan options are very limited, but who cares when you’re getting amazing beer for cheap with a ultra ambience! Cheers!
Mr MM Smith
excellent food and service, huge portions and great beer. The price is very reasonable for the amount of food you get, the platter is my fave along with the sausage taster, I usually pop in after work for a Dunkel. Love this place.
Denny Patron
Went hear with a group and had the $39 Oktoberfest feast and it was magic. Snitzels all so fresh, pork hock was amazing. All good and good value as well.
Ringo Vicious
Foods are really nice especially the signature ones. Pork belly is a must order. Beers are nice and so is the live performance. Loved my time spent there. Def go back a million times.
Lawrence Wei
Been waiting more than 30 mins to get my food when it’s very quiet ! Not allow to share beer when we ordered 500ml beer

BEST CHICKEN SCHNITZEL EVER

I reviewed this place before but I guess Zomato removed it? I regularly come here for food and beer great atmosphere and drinks . Food is nice and service is always good. Problem is that I think quality of the food has diminished slightly in comparison to 4-5 years ago. Overall the best German restaurant in Melbourne specially for FC Bayern fans.
Khorry Sila
Thē ambiance was so fun!! You can see that they’re playing and dancing with the live music.. It’s a nice place to go and have fun to get a beer..

I dare say this pork knuckle taste better than the ones i had in Germany! The knuckle is very flavourful and tender, so delicious and highly recommend!
I got the platter as it was my first time here, it was like a taste test for what you really want on ur next visit.
Keen on coming back again just for the knuckle, the spicy sausage was excellent as well, everything was worth a try.
Apple strudel was really good as well! Such friendly staff very suitable for larger bday dinner as it is a very rowdy atmosphere!
Robin Raj
Well this is mini munich all i can say. Great music and overall ambiance. Great staff and service. Do book in adavance as you will this find place full most of the time.
Parul Aggarwal
Good beer selection and food is great.
Cmzajicek
We had a group of 4 dine and the food was really tasty. It’s a little on the expensive side to get a dish each, in hindsight suggest sharing dishes and getting a variety as I think it’s better value for money! The staff were really lovely and the atmosphere great, well worth the visit!
Zomatino
Went with work colleagues for a farewell lunch and loved their prompt and attentive service. The food also tasted really good, however I found that the Schnitzel although tasty wasn’t crispy and crunchy as it should be, instead it was a bit soft and soggy. Will still go there as I found the Schnitzel, Chips, Salad and the Aioli all worked really well together.
HEARD Magazine
This a great spot for friends to head out for a few drinks and big meal and great entertainment. A little slice of Germany hidden amongst the Melbourne laneways.

You can't go wrong with anything you choose from the menu but be warned the meals are large so come with an appetite. Team that with steins of beers and you're in for a good night.

We recommend you book as it can get busy and there might not always be a table if you walk in.

Don't recommend it for that romantic date stick with groups for this one it will be more fun!
Tushar Pasrija
Really Really good place. The beer is amazing! Haven’t had that good beer anywhere in Melbourne .
Linnie Eats All The Food
Hofbrauhaus, known for their German dinners, beers and dancing in the evening, you would never have thought to have brunch here right? Well good news is they’ve opened their doors for brunch now. We got a hot chocolate to start off the day and it wasn’t as chocolate-y as I was use to. It tasted more like milk with a dash of chocolate flavour in it which was a shame.

Came here for the first time. Located next to Hutong and opposite Flower Drum.

Ordered the lunch special, chicken schnitzel. The dish came with side of salad greens and potato chips.

Service is good. Dish is ok.
Gee
2.5
It wasn’t my choice to come here. I had the schnitzel that had pieces of tomato and cheese on top alongside some chips and a lame looking salad. It certainly filled me up (bigger isn’t always better), but the quality of food wasn’t there and it’s not cheap for what you get. The meal was very average, so a 2.5 is a fair rating.

Came here on a busy bustling Friday night. Squashed into a long table. Very noisy, with music blaring, couldn’t talk to the person opposite me as couldn’t hear them. But wait, it gets worse as then the band started playing so forget talking to anyone. Realised this is more a club than a restaurant where you are able to converse with friends. Settled for the fact it’s just me, food and loud music as opposed to being out with friends. On a positive note, pretzels, schnitzels and beer were delicious, service excellent. Only come here if you want good food, loud music and not being able to converse with your friends.
Alfonso
A lovely German place that gives off a cultural vibe. This place does German food very nicely and has all the classic you would expect. Went for a schnitzel and was not disappointed, pub schnitzels can't even compare to this of course.
TweeVy Ngo
Good place to enjoy dining with large loud crowds. Ordered the beef cheeks, dish was a tad overly salted. I was disappointed with portion as I expected a German restaurant to have a little bit more than a small plate for a main meal.
Daniel Wirjoprawiro
Unique restaurant in Melbourne! Love the German vibes and the wide variety of sausages and beers 🍻. Particularly love the live music and chilli cheese sausage!

Went to Hof for my graduation dinner and it did not disappoint 👍🏻

🍖 Food 4.5/5
❗️Must order their sausage sharing platter. The sausage platter gives you a taste to all of their sausages - my favourite is the one with cheese inside. It also comes with their in-house baked pretzels which is an absolute love 🥨

Pork Knuckle is also a must! The meat falls off the bone easily and the crackling skin is crispy.

👯‍♀️ Service 4/5
Their service is friendly and the ladies are all dressed up in traditional German aprons. Which is really cute.

💰 Price $-$$
Go with a group of friends and you get to order sharing platters. Not too expensive when you split it but individual dish starts from $20.

Overall ✅✅✅
Hofbrauhaus has been around for a long time. If you’re craving traditional german food and beer, they won’t disappoint 👍🏻 Their live music lifts up the atmosphere a lot.

💰Tip💰
Entertainment book offers buy 1 get 1 free voucher. If not they’re on Eatclub offering 15% off.

Have been here for dinner and lunch, both times were great! The evenings have live music, lots more drinking and are much more animated. Lunchtime is a quieter experience but the food is just as delicious!

The soft pretzels are my favourite on the menu. Soft, fluffy dough and the perfect amount of salt.

The pork knuckle is outstanding and the schnitzel has a good crumb. The food is a bit expensive but for the novelty factor of the cuisine and size (massive portions), it’s a must-try restaurant in Melbourne, at least once.
Birdman
Has been around for donkeys this place and hasn’t changed a bit (nor should it). Ordered the platter which is designed for 2-3 people which has a bit of everything. Pork Belly, sausages, schnitzel, knuckle mashed potato etc. All the food had excellent flavours, the Knuckle had excellent crackling and a heap of meat on it too. We booked via eatclub which was 15% off all food and beverage however the restaurant said it was up to $25 max which it clearly doesn’t say on EatClub which is a bit dodgy but whatever, good joint.

good beer, the best pork knuckle, very yummy sausages and the apple scruddle was a perfect finish to an enjoyable dinner, that’s why over all these years, other restaurants come and go, this one still seats on top of my list if I ever want some German food

Well what can I say. Went here with the sick c*nts of the office headed up by il padrino. Had some great schnitzels all around. Dropped some new tracks and had the biggest laughs thanks to this place. This place is mint and with the boys it was mad. Complimenti e danke ;)

As my ethnic background is Eastern European, I've never ordered a schnitzel at a restaurant in Australia. Ever. I figured I'd be disappointed. I was wrong. The pork schnitzel here was exquisite. Tender, expertly fried, delicious sides. We shared fried mushrooms to start and they're just like my mother used to make. Excellent. Pity it took 50 minutes from ordering to receive our schnitzels. At the time of ordering, there was only one other table occupied. At the time of follow up (at the 45 minute mark) there were three other tables occupied. There was no initiative or care factor from staff, who forgot to put the order through. They did comp a pretzel and at our request removed the mushrooms from the bill. Go for the food, it really is excellent. Buy one main get one free is offered in the entertainment book.

For the longest time of my life, all that I thought about German food is that it tastes bland and they drink a lot of beer. But that changed when I had my first taste of real German food, and very surprisingly it happened while living in India. There was an Indo German expo, to boost cultural and economic ties between the two countries and one of the highlights of the expo was showcasing real German food. And that was the first time I indulged in German sausages, pretzels, sauerkraut etc… and also appreciated the value of mustard as a condiment.
The King Of The North
Shared a sausage platter (for two) and enjoyed the 4-6pm happy hour on Friday night. $15 Steins, $7.50 a half Stein. Beer was tasty, Weissbier was my favourite. Service was good and the sausage platter was great value for two ($50). Highly recommend

I attended Hofbrauhaus in Market Lane last Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience of a Bavarian style brunch. Located in the heart of china town, I experienced a traditional German brunch which included eggs benedict, baked potatoes and the mushrooms. My taste buds were amazed as we devoured our meals. I'd highly recommend the experience, not just for the amazing food but the wonderful service as well. :)

Melbourne’s favourite Bavarian drinking hole Hofbrauhaus is now also doing brunch. And what perfect timing for a hearty brunch feed with Melbourne’s weather quickly cooling down to the bone chilling temps. Brrrrr. Even my pick of one of the lighter options; the panfried mushrooms, oozed of hearty comfort. That or indulgently rich cultured butter. Paired with the earthiness of the mushrooms, each bite was incredibly flavoursome and had me going back for more.
Good Food Good Mood
We were invited to Hofbrahaus to try their new brunch offering this morning and experienced a really traditional meal. The yummy shredded pancake was a favourite and took me right back to Berlin with a slightly more modern plating.

I really enjoyed this dish and I also thoroughly enjoyed the house made donuts with plum compote. They had a great fluffy texture although they aren’t particularly breakfasty of their own accord but make a great addition to the table as a shared dessert item.

The other one I tried was the willowzen eggs which reads as a vegetarian dish but actually had bacon throughout so make sure you check dirtarues with staff. I really enjoyed the soft yummy pretzel with this. Overall the food is very authentic so it’s something quite unique for our Melbourne palettes and worth checking out for something different
Michi
First time trying germany food and was pleasantly enjoyed the cuisine. The combination of fried pork knuckles, bratwurst and germany beer makes this place worth a visit. Recommended to come in a big group as portion is pretty large.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Entree and Main Platter

A delightful dining experience where the purveyor does everything to make you feel like you are in Munich Germany. The interiors, the staff as well as the food were pretty spot on from this respect. Food was generously portioned, hearty, and tasty. We had the shared platter and this was a great way to share with a group of us, plus sample what the place had the offer. Food was great especially when eaten with a pint of their German beers. The pork knuckle was particularly delicious (crispy skin, gelatinous in parts and tender all round). A great atmosphere, good service and reasonably priced dining experience. I can’t say I will frequent this place as the food is quite heavy and rich, but would certainly bring guests and come by here for special occasions and for something a little different.

Visited to check out their new German Style Brunch! Not only they have a new brunch menu they have cocktails(sounds like a perfect weekend plan). I had the Woodland mushroom pan fried in cultured butter on toast. It was delicious and the buttery taste was fragrant.

The only feedback i would have would be an improvement on the poached eggs as they were as perfectly cooked as expected.

50th years anniversary of Hofbrauhaus in Chinatown. One of the most popular German restaurants in Melbourne. They start the brunch menu with various German breakfast choices. Definitely a good place to try the unique and authentic German breakfast. Highly recommended

Having been to Hofbrauhaus previously, we knew it stuck fairly traditionally to its German roots, yet for some reason I was still shocked when I saw the menu. “It’s like…” thoughtful pause, “it’s like...

The staff are so lovely! We came for dinner late last night after a comedy show and were glad to find the place open. We ordered a schnitzel and a pork belly. The mushroom sauce with the schnitzel was absolutely delicious. My pork belly wasn’t the greatest in the world - will be going for the pork knuckle next time which looks amazing. My 5 star rating is a combo of the food, but also the fantastic staff. They had completely sold out of the beer we wanted, but they brought out another on the house to make up for it. They really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed the place - thank you :)

I really reccomend this nice venue first of all for their high quality beers and for their authentic german dishes!!! Another good feature best sraff 🙋

When you’re in Melbourne and in the mood for German food Hofbrauhaus is probably the first place that comes to mind. But have you had a Bavarian brunch before? There were lots of dishes I had never heard of and could barely pronounce but they were delicious. Hofbrauhaus will be doing Bavarian brunch every Sunday from 11am so you can try it for yourself.

I was recently invited to the launch of a Bavarian Brunch menu at German restaurant Hofbräuhaus. The restaurant interior is cosy, with lots of German style : wooden floors, waiters in traditional costume and beer barrels. There is beautiful light that comes through the windows, and you begin to feel like you are in Europe. However, we did think the music was too loud for a brunch atmosphere, as we struggled to hold conversation over it.
Gastrology
Lovers of German fare that are bored by regular brunch options will rejoice at the ability to enjoy brunch with a tasty Bavarian twist.

Hofbrauhaus in Melbourne CBD has recently introduced a new German Brunch. From the end of March you can now get your German style breakfast at Hofbrauhaus every Sunday 11-3pm in the Alpine Bar.

2.5/5
How did this place get a rating of 4.4/5? The service was ok, the food average and the really expensive for what you get.

We ordered a couple of beers, and some schnapps, as you do! The schnapps were good but the beers, were very average.

We ordered a couple of kranskys for $10 each wow, and I had butterfly pork cutlets and my partner a pork schnitzel.

My pork was ok but dry and or fatty. The mash was below average and the gravy not very good. My sauerkraut was cold and lifeless.

Whilst my partners food fared a little better the meal was $120 and sooo really overpriced for the quality and amount of food we got!
Makan2Melbourne
They offer platter, which was perfect for sharing. The portion was quiet big, enough for 4 people. The pork knuckle and pork belly were the best ones. The skin was crispy, although it was a bit tough to cut the pork knuckle. The sausages were too salty for my liking. The other ones were just average, nothing special. Would recommend pre-booking using the EatClub app for discount.

I Tried the eggs Benedict with dumplings ~ I really enjoyed the texture of the dumplings and the hollandaise sauce, I just wish the eggs were poached slightly better and more consistent between the dishes.

The sweet pancakes were also quite nice however the texture was slightly dense. But still tasted good with the cream and jam 👌🏼

If I’d had to praise only ONE thing about Hofbrauhaus, it would be their customer follow up and attention to satisfaction! I previously reviewed based on an unpleasant experience however, the food was definitely amazing and got a message from the management and was invited back and I’d have to say, I wasn’t disappointed.

FOOD: We got to try a bigger range of food this time and by the time we left, we were bretzel-ed out (but that’s not gonna stop us from returning!) Everything that we ordered from bretzels to sausages to even desserts was so on point. The food was amazing quality and it left us feeling satisfied and happy! I couldn’t have asked for a better meal! And like I keep repeating, order the bretzels and thank me later 🤩

SERVICE: Service was absolutely lovely with all the waitresses having the most welcoming service and smiles that made us feel like we were dining with the happiest staff on Earth! They truly made the experience 10 times better and are clearly living up to the joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere!

AMBIENCE: Loud but hey, you came for a good time and that’s what you’re gonna get so order a beer and enjoy some amazing live music, activities and bring a friend or two to experience a true Bavarian time!

Overall, Hofbrauhaus’s invitation made me feel really honoured as I realise how personal they’d want you to feel with them and how they want everyone to have the best meal possible! I’d most definitely return and am most gracious of the wonderful experience I had! Thank you once again, Hofbrauhaus and I’m sure you’ll see a happy girl with her bretzel no later! (Keep your eyes peeled for my hopefully soon brunch review as the spread looks PHENOMENAL)
This place deserves a 3.5 star rating.

I have been to this place twice and both the times the experience was completely opposite.

The first time I was seated downstairs where an amazing band was playing, crowd was great and the food was really good.

But the second time was completely different. I got a table upstairs, the place was quieter. But the ambience of the place was really nice. I wanted to have good food in not a very loud place so this was perfect for me.

Coming to the food: i got myself some sausages, schnitzel and a starter wias potato and bacon. The flavour of the sausages was just great, and with the awesome saukeraut the whole dish was just on the next level.

Schnitzel was goooood, chicken was fresh and juicy and the chips were hot and crispy.

Service wise this place was alright. I got a wrong order but I didnot want to wait any longer so I didn't return it, but it should not have happened in the first place. When another server found out that i had got wrong order she was really nice to offer me a free shot, but I dont drink so that one went to waste.

I would highly recommend this restaurant who likes to eat meat or loves amazingly flavoured sausages.

This place was lit. Food was amazing. Sausages, schnitzel was just amazing. Few staff was very sweet. While there was the one who misheard my order and gave me a different schnitzel. Though the different one was delicious too but i didn't get what i ordered. Other than that everything was decent.

🍻Oktoberfest at Hofbrauhaus was lit AF 🍺! Food was so damn delicious and the entertainment was on fire 🔥 , I really can’t think of a better way to spend the night out than celebrating Oktoberfest here. And yes, that schnitzel was the best I’ve ever had 🤤

A fun place with great entertainment and food. We ordered the HB Feast Platter and it was more than enough for four people. Great live entertainment with the highlight being dancing on the tables.
Andy Trancao
For the longest time I’ve heard and seen the Hofbrauhaus all over social media. I finally got the chance to go in with my friend with no expectations whatsoever. we’re two big dudes and we eat A LOT, so when we saw the HB platter for 2-3 (pictured) we knew it was for us.

It was so tasty, the porks were cooked to perfection and usually I’m not a fan of sausages, but these ones were the melt in your mouth kind.

Would highly recommend anyone who loves a good beer and a bit of pork on your fork!
EatPicLove
Easily the most entertaining and hospitable venue I have ever been to. The food was served with an authentic taste and feel of Germany. From the moment we were seated to when we left, we were dealt with amazing service and an amazing experience of song and dance. Whether it be for a family dinner or a night out, Hofbräuhaus is a venue for all.
Nathan
I shared the pork knuckle, which was fantastic, and since it's as big as two mains it's probably the best value on the menu. Service was very friendly and helpful but the venue was extremely loud. There was a band playing which was a bit much, we had to yell to talk to each other. Can also recommend the goulash soup and the spätzle.
Miss T.A
Great entertainment from the live band. Gigantic generous amount of well cooked meat on plate. Great to sample different kinds of meat . Mango flavoured beer was light and refreshing. Excellent service.
Sparky
Friendly service and quality German food if that’s what you’re after. Basically it has Germany quality so if that’s what you’re after then this would be the place with an exorbitant price to what you’re eating.

Food Rating: 😀💗4/5
Atmosphere Rating: 5/5
Service Rating: 👏 4/5
Would recommend booking in advance over the phone (especially during the holiday season).

German food in the heart of Melbourne! It's often so hard to find authentic European-style food in Melbourne, but I think Hofbräuhaus is potentially the best one in the city. They've tried to decorate the place as similar to the original one in Germany, and the service is prompt and great too.
Ordered the Bavarian lunch platter, as well as the Würstlspiess and Hähnchenschnitzel. The sausages (Würstlspiess) were not my favourite, but they were very similar to the ones I had in Europe. By far my favourite was the schnitzel (Hähnchenschnitzel) - the crispy crumb coat as well as the thin schnitzel was amazing! The lunch platter has a little bit of both dishes and also had my favourite potato salad!

4.5. My go-to German restaurant in town, it's served consistently good food over the years. I love the HB feast platter: perfectly cooked pork knuckle with crispy crackling and tasty meat, tasty smoked pork loin, decent pork belly, a small selection of delicious sausages, and 2 large schnitzels, which are always great. Easily enough for 4 people or 2 super hungry ones. We ordered some extra sides: spatzle which was not bad, potato dumplings and bratkartoffeln which were both really tasty. Have also had the sausage platter and bretzels which are great. A good selection of Bavarian beer and schnaps, the Devil's Herbs is my fav (try lighting it first!) Friendly staff, the evening entertainment is good fun although it can be very loud.

We came here last night and got the feast platter. Though it was shared among the 3 of us, we couldn’t finish it as there was a lot of meat! The skin on the pork belly was crispy and cooked well. The schnitzel was close to the ones we had in Austria. The pork knuckle was decent. We also enjoyed the crispy eggplant. The potato salad was average. There was a live band in the background which added a great energy to the restaurant. We didn’t realise we were meant to go to the counter to get the bill, otherwise the service is friendly. Highly recommend a visit!

Its my second trip here! Food was good the first time, today we ordered 2 pork knuckles for sharing, the portion is generous. Too bad, one of the knuckle is not crispy enough 😢 but the other one was crispy and good. Beer was good!

Amazing! The food was fantastic, schnitzels were tasty, cocktails and beers were high quality and the pork knuckle was to die for. We ordered the big meat platter and it was the perfect sharing dish. Highly recommend if you are in the CBD.

A beautiful restaurant tucked away on Market Lane, Hofbräuhaus is a cozy, yet loud German restaurant with good food, good drinks and good vibes. The ambiance is reminiscent of Germany with its music, decor and menu. We ordered the Swiss Schnitzel and Cheese Kranskys to share. Both were amazing and not a single fault can be said about them. To drink, there was the Signature Lager, which went well with the food we ate, as it was light and smooth. Service was create and really friendly. Would definitely go again!

One of my favourite places in the city! Always fabulous service, food and entertainment. Not cheap but worth it for the quality and overall experience. Must try the sharing boards!

It’s a fun atmosphere, but maybe a little bit too loud. There was a band playing and my friend and I having a great dance with a ladies. Food was amazing, experience was very unique. Definitely worth a visit. Love it!

One of the best places for food, beer and entertainment. I'm not a beer drinker but their beer are soooo good! And food were huge and delicious!!! The band is hilarious and so much fun. And finally the service crew were just great. They accommodated all my requests to make my mom's birthday extra special! This is a must visit place!

Ordered

----------------------

1. HB Feast Platter:

- Pork Knuckle - Skin was amazing and meat was tender but could be more seasoned/flavored

- Pork Belly - Skin was a bit tough and chewy. The meat could've been more tender and flavored

- Kassler (Pork Chop) - Flavor and texture were better than the pork belly

- Sausages - Enjoyed the flavors (particularly the red ones) and texture

- Schnitzel - Okay, not particularly outstanding in the platter

- Mashed Potato: This shone over the Schnitzel

- Sauerkraut - Tasty

- Braised Red Cabbages - Tasty but it was too sour for some of us

- Mix Leaf Salad - Okay, more like decoration on the side

- Haus made pork jus - Okay, some of us liked it, some of us thought it was okay

It is not just about food, but a real german experience. As I am from Germany I sometimes miss German food and the beer of course. The food in Hofbräuhaus is really authentic and delicious and the imported beer is just awesome! I had Bretzel with Obazda as a starter and the Bretzel was freshly baked and still warm, so yummy! The Schnitzel was to die for! I ordered it with Spätzle and pork jus, as this is how I eat it at home:) it was really yummy! The entertainment and the friendly and attentive staff completed a really great evening!

Came here for fathers day dinner. We booked a couple of weeks in advance.. i’m glad we did as it was very busy! Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was loud and fun with live music and a great interaction with the crowd

We ordered two of the bretzel to share between our table of three to start off with. It was warm, soft and fresh.. delicious! I got the lemon schnitzel for main. It was a bit expensive but oh so worth it as the portion size was huge and it was probably the best schnitzel i’ve ever had. Cooked to perfection, a really crunchy crumb, I couldn’t fault it.

This place is great when you’re looking for somewhere a little different from your normal basic pub.

My son took me there for Father’s Day. Enjoy these type of restaurants. Service was good, Bier was great and the sausages with sauerkraut was great. Recommend this place anytime

If you’re after a mean feed then this is the place for you! The portions are spectacularly large and everything is grande. Pork knuckle and sausages are their specialty and it did not disappoint. The pork was rich and juicy. All the dishes are quite heavy so having the pickled cabbage on the side, helped break up the flavours. The pretzel was warm when served and pairing it with butter was so delicious. Not to mention the beer! Beer is served in 1 litre cups and I really enjoyed the mango flavour. It was light and crisp which made it enjoyable. I loved how there was an interactive live band and waiters were dressed up. Service was attentive and ambience was cosy. Overall, great experience!

Amazing place for me! Come with friends every weekend! Food is big enough for 2 people! Good music performance! And especially recommend the honey and orange beer( I forgot that name:-I) !

sweet staffs and lovely night! Thank you Hofbrauhaus!
BTW could you share your background music for us ^ ^

Sometimes when we craving for meat , hofbrauhaus would always come to my mind. If u are a group of 3 ppl , I would always suggest that u go for their meat platter. The food is generally served as always. I myself is not a big fan of beer if I have a choice I would not go for beer but whenever I go there I would order their fruity beer ( mango is my favourite) the taste of alcohol is not strong and it is easy to drink. Their staffs are always friendly and u would always feel welcomed in there .

The overall atmosphere was spectacular. Lovely German music, decor and the waiters and waitresses were all very kind and cheery. The beer was quite broad in range, with the delectable option of 500ml and 1L options!!!

The food was quite good. I had the chicken schnitzel with chips and a salad whereas my friends had the sausages with mash. Honestly, the food was a tad pricey but the serving size was a little too big.

I would recommend it for those with big appetites and a hunch for European food 👌

Hofbrauhaus on Market Lane in Melbourne. With live music Thursday to Sunday (including tracks such as the chicken dance,. which will score you a free shot of schnapps if you dance along), bucket loads of character and costumed waitresses. that serve you with beaming smiles, Hofbrauhaus will keep you entertained and feel welcomed from the minute you walk through the door.

A Bavarian feast filled with dirndls, beer, schnapps and schnitzels! The atmosphere at hofbrauhaus is a lot of fun and a great place to enjoy a tasty traditional meal with friends. If you’re celebrating something, be sure to let the band know and soon, the whole restaurant will know too! Their beers and cocktails are great as well as their entrees. We really enjoyed the pretzel (with their cheese dip of course) as well as the eggplant chips (coated in polenta). The Parma schnitzel was delicious - and absolutely ginormous and the German egg noodles with cheese is a great vego option (they certainly aren’t stingy on the cheese!). We couldn’t look past the strudel for dessert. After that and some schnapps shots we left full, happy and a bit unsteady on our feet (the sign of a perfect night in our opinion!)
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Being right next to Chinatown, Market Lane seems like an odd place to find a Bavarian beer house, but Hofbräuhaus has been around since 1968. In this venue, you’ll be treated to hearty Bavarian fare and entertainment – live music builds a fun atmosphere during the busy evenings.

When I heard that Hofbrauhaus wasn’t your “typical restaurant” I had my doubts as to how unique it would be, but honestly, with the entertainment and stellar vibes that have on their weekend nights, it truly is a fun, authentic Bavarian experience for all. Their live band, dim lighting, and the all-round happiness of the place is second to none. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this lively spot in Melbourne Chinatown to all looking to have the perfect group dinner spot! Coupled with speedy service, a comprehensive Central European menu, and THE BEST VIBES, Hofbrauhaus is THE PLACE to be for food and fun.

Absolutely a fantastic experience. I felt like I was back in Berlin! If you have visited Germany and looking for an authentic beer hall this is the place for you.

The band was fantastic - thank you for performing my song Sweet Caroline!

The food was amazing. The platter is big enough to be shared by 4 people.

Also if you are dining upstairs it’s going to be loud! The warning they provide when you make the booking is correct but it’s all part of the experience!
