Review The Meat & Wine Co Southbank - Melbourne

J “Ryan” C
This superb restaurant has a new look that is modern and vibrant with a warm atmosphere, making for a great dining experience. The steak is always cooked to perfection. Simply delicious and juicy. I love the New Yorker with blue cheese sauce. Staff are friendly and service is fast. Prices are decent. The place is very popular so be sure to make a booking.

Yesterday was my second visit at Meat& Wine Co in Southbank. Service is prompt, staff are professional and friendly, and ambiance is great. The restaurant ensures that people follow health protocols, and that's a good thing. The food is delicious. I have tried their poke bowls with different meat (pork, salmon etc) and the taste is unbeatable. The lightly fried calamari was amazing. Yum! The price of menu items is reasonable for such a prime location and vibe. There is plenty of space for larger groups at two levels.

Went there for my birthday dinner. We ordered Portuguese Prawns for starter and it was as usual mind blowing. For the mains I had the New Yorker with peppercorns and salad and it was absolutely amazing. My partner went for Rib eye with Barbeque Relish and chips and he liked it too. By the time we finished our meal we were too full for dessert. We really had a good time. Glad that came here. Overall, food was good and service was okay to be honest!

Outstanding service. Fri, 21 Jan, 08:54 PM Wed, 25 May, 06:42 PM The above date was my reservation dinner at Meat and Wine Co Southbank. I had an additional reservation because of the last-minute confirmation received from my friends. When we arrived, the front staff told us that we need to sit at a separate table because of a different booking. It was my mistake not to mention in my second reservation about the additional need to be together at one table. Winnie our waiter is our “Angel” She can arrange our tables next to each other instead of being separated by the different corners. This is what I meant extremely good service. She always made sure we are well-taken care of. In fact, she went beyond the expectation. Her knowledge of food and wine recommendation is two thumbs up. Friendly, great smile, knowledge, and care made my dinner celebration end with a wonderful and joyful moment. The majority has been spoken. All my friends gave two thumbs up for the food. Beginning from the starter, the main dish, dessert, and wine are well prepared and served. 110 percent recommended. Keep up the excellent work guys. Dr Mohammad

Some of the juiciest meat I’ve ever had. We wanted the Wagyu but they had run out, so we got the Aged Steak instead and it did not disappoint. So easy to cut into and falls apart in your mouth, although some of the edges can be hard to eat. And the Portuguese Chicken was so flavourful and just falls right off the skewer too. Definitely recommend trying both. But not only do they deliver in mains, their dessert is equally as flavourful, the Chocolate and Hazelnut Fondant is the perfect finisher to your meal. The service we received was absolutely amazing, we did come to our reservation late so they had every right to be curt with us but they did not. They were polite, friendly and we were catered for right until the end. Definitely come here if you’re visiting Melbourne.

Great service at this upper market steakhouse. Beautiful interior. Felt very premium for a steakhouse. The food was great without being exceptional. Our steaks were both one undercooked. So I asked for medium and it came out medium rare. And the other steak was asked medium rare and came out rare. No biggie for us. But it did alter our experience. And for the price you pay, it was a bit disappointing. The blue cheese dressing was awesome and the accompanying salad was great too. I personally didn't enjoy the sauce that came with our entree scallops, but the scallops themselves were baked perfectly. The wines we were recommended were seriously gorgeous. Thanks for having us.

We visited this M&WCo location after receiving a red balloon gift voucher for a lunch for 2. We were greeted promptly and confirmed our reservation to claim the voucher. We were seated next to the waiters station in the main front room of the dining hall. Our waiters were fast and friendly throughout the course of our meal. We shared the two course meal between my partner and I, was plenty of food with a complimentary drink as well. We would return again to experience the full non voucher menu experience.

Great service, beautiful fit out and environment. Made up for the fact they served rare streaks when we ordered medium rare. All in all, the staff made it an enjoyable night. 10/10 for the staff there.

The salad cost $15 in food delivery just the vegetable in the picture

We ordered a medium rare grain fed 120 day rib eye, a premium beef burger and garlic bread to share.

I think the steak would be better presented on a board, but that’s just my suggestion.

The food was superb and we will be back!
Some Bunee Loves Food
Ordered a steak with mushroom sauce - steak was ordered well done and it was surprisingly very tender and not too chewy at all. The mushroom sauce didn't really taste like mushrooms though..

The potato mash was done really well and very garlic flavoured.

The chips were really crunchy and nice. Sweet potato chips were a bit bitter though. The chicken tenders reminded me of Mexican chicken flavours with some burnt flavour.
ARMANEATS
Great atmosphere and comfortable seating made for a good first impression- followed by quick and efficient taking of our food and drink orders. We decided to share, which was a good choice with so many tempting offerings. Our orders arrived in a timely fashion, allowing us time to chat and not feel rushed. The food itself was delicious, we opted for a chicken and a steak dish, both of which were cooked perfectly. The menu had lots of great options, particularly for meat eaters - including ribs, chicken and aged steaks. While the price point would probably make it more of an occasion venue l highly recommend this restaurant.

Have been wanting to try Mean & Wine Co for years and thought it was too fancy with kids. Finally had a kid free afternoon so we went for lunch. It was average. The set menu lunch was very limited. Ordered the steak tartare and a steak with salad and bearnaise sauce. I enjoyed the steak tartare a lot. However the steak wasn’t very tender, a bit dry and ordered medium rare and it was blue in parts as it was uneven. And they glazed it with some weird sweet sauce which totally ruined the flavour for me. Disappointed with the main I didn’t bother to try the desserts. Nothing special so won’t be returning.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday, and I was soo grateful for that. We ordered Wagyu rib eye and beef ribs, both were amazingly delicious! I’ve never tried something incredible like these before. Although, of course with great quality comes with higher price tag, but I feel like it’s all worth it 😍

I won’t be here too often because of the price, but I will definitely be back to celebrate special occasions 💕
Broke The Scale
An absolutely amazing experience at this establishment.

We booked online for a table at 6:15. Upon arriving, we were welcomed by two lovely ladies at front and were seated immediately. Our waitress handed the menus and right away asked if we were interested in any refreshments. We had a couple waitresses throughout the night but each were very friendly and amazingly attentive, making sure we were satisfied.

My friend ordered a medium Ribeye with chips and Garlic cream while I ordered a medium Ribeye with a salad and mushroom sauce. We also ordered a side of Mash and a Love ThyLychee mocktail.

The steaks were cooked a perfect medium, paired well with the sauces and were well seasoned (for those who might like steaks without sauce). The chips were crunchy and the salad was well dressed but otherwise average (What could you expect from a salad?). The mash was smooth, flavourful and filling, and the lychee mocktail was 'amazing', according to my friend who absolutely destroyed it.

Although the prices are a bit steep, you can expect that it would be worth it for the type of service and food you will receive. I would recommend this place to anyone who would be willing to spend a little more to get a lot back.

😻

Came here for a Sunday lunch, and really enjoyed the fare that we had. Service was very attentive, and the kangaroo I had was a perfect medium rare. I also tasted a pork rib, which was delicious too.

Great service, delicious Wagyu steak. Always enjoy going there, never got disappointed.

Their management is completely CHAOTIC, and they have available tables but they’d rather keep ppl waiting.

I went in at 7:10 today, they said we need to wait for 40 mins - 1 hour, so we went upstairs. About 40 mins later, we talked to a waitress to check out position in line, no response.
An hour later I saw ppl who came later than us got called. I got furious. So I went to the reception desk, they say we will get next table.

At the end we waited for 1 hours and half to get our table, and another 20 mins for the manager to came to our table to explain everything, they claimed some ppl had reservation so they got called earlier.
I don’t believe that Bc I literally saw that couple sitting there for an hour to get table, who would wait for an hour for a booked table? Isn’t it another proof that the management is a mess?

I can accept the fact that the queue is long, the estimated time is not accurate, but I can’t accept the restaurant forgot us and helped ppl to cut the line. Very disappointed.

If you insist to go there, I highly recommend you book a table first and I don’t think any restaurant worthies an hour and half waiting.
Amazing food. Great friendly prompt service. Great kid menu. Fantastic place to go! Will definitely be back!!

Came here for a birthday dinner. Was told that we could have the room for 2 hours. Came on time but upon entering, staff told us that we could only have jt for 1 hour and said sorry for the changes. Should’ve told us earlier tho
Overall, food taste and quality is nice

I would not recommend this place to anyone that has an allergy, they do not cater well for them.

Overall enjoyed my dining experience at this restaurant. Even though the prices are a little dear, the service is superb and the quality of the food is great.

This place was beautiful and if you are seated by the window, the view is spectacular. The beef ribs here are so flavoursome and delicious!!! So worth the $70. The steak here is okay, and the sauces (I tried the mushroom one and the black garlic butter) which were okay. I definitely recommend the ribs!!! amazing ! will be back

Great atmosphere, fair service. In summary better off going to a local pub or even a Hog’s Breath Cafe does serve better steaks and sauces.

Myself and my husband along with friends have been here many times and enjoyed it hence why we go back!!! Today we received the most unprofessional service by the manager and walked out! I have been in the industry for over 25 years and would never treat a customer as I was treated today. As I mentioned to the manager I’m meeting with a food review company on Monday. My recommendation won’t be nice. We actually walked before receiving our meal!! That’s the type of service that we received pretty bad if you ask me!!

Food was delicious and the lychee mocktail was my favourite. Place was a bit dark. Good for date nights and family nights. It is more in the pricier end.

Unfortunately for a $130 meal I was severely disappointed. As much as I wanted to like the place, I couldn't. The staff were kind but for a place called The MEAT & Wine Co, the MEAT was the the most disappointing experience, which was essentially my whole meal. I had booked this place for 3pm for my boyfriend's birthday, I ordered the fillet (medium) with peppercorn sauce. I was going to opt for medium rare and regardless if I did the meat quality was not up to par when you think about the price. It was chewy, over cooked and lacked flavour. The peppercorn sauce was too over powering that I hardly used it. In the end I gave my boyfriend half my fillet, he also didn't finish it as he said it was too chewy. We were quite surprised at the lack of quality. Whether it's the cut of meat or the way it was cooked I'm not sure. His pork ribs however, were great. The lychee mocktail was good. But at the end of the meal I was left saddened since it was his birthday, a lack lustre meal killed the mood, the highlights were the chips, my $12 mocktail and the onion rings.... Upon paying the bill i was asked how was everything, I had to tell them it was not great.. but didn't elaborate to the point of sounding like a fussy customer. They did offer two drink coupons should I return. But, I don't see myself returning.

We were here to celebrate a special occasion on a Monday night. It was a full house, however, the experience has been very disappointing.

We ordered fried calamari, prawn and beef skewer, 1 steak with chips and 2 drinks, the bill was $160+ for 2 people. I believe with this price we can get much better food elsewhere in Melbourne. Would like to explain the reason behind.

The calamari being normal taste- golden crispy and crunchy, but the presentation was off- calamari pcs were randomly plated on the dish. The same look you can get at any cheap eat shop, and yes we paid $24 for that. Seems like the kitchen has been too busy to care.

Everything else was just far-off from our expectation. The worst part- the prawn and beef skewer was COLD, and I had stomach pain after having two bites of the steak, which has never happened to me before. Being a restaurant for MEAT LOVER this is unacceptable. Oh, also they forgot about our salad when serving.

The $59 fillet was nothing much special, meat was dry, not enough flavour.

The place has become a must-visit for tourists but being a local I don't see any reason for visiting as you can find much better alternatives for better quality steak. Sorry, won't be back.

I like Camberwell one- my usual place. I Booked the south bank for dinner as I thought it’s beautiful location to show it to overseas friends - Very Disappointed with the services, we were the first in , but last serviced ! Not enough waiters - whatever the reason. My overseas visitors even felt the bad services, not impressed at all. 👎

As a huge meat/steak fan, this place sure does impressed. Would have given it a 5 star if the service is more pleasant and friendly. I tried both the newyork cut and the scotch, both are cooked to medium rare and the basting sauce compliments the meat really well.

I cannot understand how this place is so highly recommended. Food, service, less than standard. Tartare too salty, ceaser salad not tasty, rump steak done to well with no flavour, no tap beer. Overall, not good is my impression

I am very very disappointed with this restaurant especially I am celebrating my partner’s birthday. The table is right up against the wall cramped in between everyone. The light shine right through your eyes.
We were waiting at the bar area enjoying 4pm to 6pm happy hour and we wanted to stay till 6 but one of the waitresses wanted us to move to the table and she asked us twice already. So I asked’ can we still order drinks at the table? She said yes so we moved to the table and she disappeared, never took our orders and we waited for 15 minutes.
Someone else came and took our order but it was 6:15 so I asked if we still got the happy hour deal and he said that they don’t do deals on tables.
So they pretty much made us left the bar and couldn’t enjoy the happy hour time 🤷🏻‍♀️
Just... awful....

Back to the food
The salmon tartare and Wagyu tartare is very very very salty. I doubt that tartare is even wagyu.

The prawn is delicious but i can’t believe that I’m getting only three prawns for $24 and the prawns are just grilled with coriander garlic some basic spices. Did they get the prawn from the Baltic Sea flew in to Melbourne an hour before ?

The wagyu 6+ does not look like a 6+
Very very dry and had lots of salt, it’s not fresh and just a normal piece of steak you can get on a Wednesday steak night.

I rarely write such bad comments for any restaurants, I do expect a bit more when i has to pay $24 for 3 prawns and $79 for a piece of steak .
I have never written such long comment either.
It is so disappointing that it pretty much ruined my night.

The only good thing is, the rose lychee spritz is very very nice
Jamie
My family and I took a good friend of mine here. We had the Wagyu Ribeye and rump. Both were cooked perfectly to our preferred med/rare setting. Large serving sizes. The staff were polite and helpful. My friend and my daughter enjoyed the food immensely. It was a great night.

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. I usually go to the Hawthorn store but this one time experience seemed to taste better with their steak. The ribs were on par. My medium rare was done well but a couple of my friends' steak were a bit overcooked. Nevertheless, a good night with great service!
Emma Broomfield
Literally the best steak I've ever had. I had the grain fed rump and it was cooked perfectly rare. Consistently amazing from beginning to end. I'm very excited to come back here.

After visiting this place many times for special occasions, this time was ruined by the terrible service.
The food was delicious and great but when one makes a booking, one would expect to be seated down at that time. Instead for my fathers birthday we were made to wait an hour and a half to then be asked to leave in an hour as they needed the table.
I hope this is a once off experience as I thoroughly enjoyed this place previously.

Rating 4 stars. I don't normally 'love' franchises, however, The Meat & Wine Co have done exceptionally well in Melbourne (the city of boutique and unique cafes, restaurants and coffee joints). Offering delicious red meat focused dishes of all varieties, a wide drinks menu and sweet selection of desserts, it's a solid choice for a group lunch/ dinner.
JustCruizing
Gazing at the mouth watering menu it’s a moment where you wish you have the bucks to try every single item on the menu and be an absolute guts by the end of the experience. Unfortunately for me reality struck i could afford a few things of which every dish I picked was wise and flawless. My partner and I got the Sichuan calamari , Mac and cheese , ribs platter and monte - grain fed 120D rib eye steak. Ribs and steak were ridiculously tender, juicy and flavoursome , calamari was cooked perfectly but flavours were ok and the Mac and cheese was very comforting and fun. Obviously pricey but expect no regrets , well worth every cent. Eager to try to the wagyu selection for our next visit. Happy days.

Dined in two years before and had a quite good impression on the restaurant. But two years later, it turned out to be a disappointment. The quality of food was not as good as before (beef and prawns over-cooked and the ribs were cold). Service was unsatisfying (waitress was so impatient and her attitude was just not respectful to her customers). More than half hour waiting for serving without any explanations about while it took so long (and the food were cold). Generally quite disappointing. For a restaurant like this (everything not reasonable with this price ), you definitely expect more. The only one star is for the environment.
Caroline
Had such a good steak the other night here. We ordered scotch and new york cut both are fresh and delicious. Love the extra sweetness taste from the basting sauce, compliments the beef really well.
Chef ASD
Very nice location and friendly staffs. We are not order so many dishes. Only few mains the steak was wow and tender inside.

The ribs is a killer to have nice glazy and so tender. It's a must try dish.

As a name of meat and wine they have good wine to match with food.

Can try this restaurant for lunch or dinner. It's near to the Crown casino

There is a lot of competition being situated on Southbank and it is hard to get in without a booking but we popped by before a show and they managed to squeeze us in before their next booking. So glad that they did! I tried the platter so that I could have a bit of everything and it was absolutely delicious! Wouldn’t rate the charcoal lemonade I had though.... will know next time to just get a regular lemonade drink. Can’t fault the food or service here and I thought the pricing was very reasonable for a steakhouse.
Whalesfoodadventure
Loved the pea pasta. It was something different but tasted amazing. The bruschetta had too much going on and the bread was way too hard. Loved the creme brûlée
Claudia Yofa
Food was amazing and reasonably priced. The service was great too! Been here multiple times, never failed to impress :) Would definitely come back for more!
Kathy Chen
Biggest steak I’ve ever had! 400 grams pure juicy dry aged steak. The steak alone had so much flavour the mushroom sauce wasn’t really needed, but of course the mushroom sauce was bomb. I totally recommend!

A great steak chain in the heart of Melbourne CBD.
I am always worried about going to chain restaurants especially in Melbourne. Independent is usually best. However, for a big group eating this was perfect. They had more than enough space for the 11 of us. The food came quick. It was tasty.

My steak was cooked perfectly and no one complained at all! The menu is great, you have multiple meat options and a lot of entrees and sides to choose from.

I liked it!

After having our anniversary dinner at meat and wine co, me and my boyfriend decided unanimously that they have the BEST meat in melbourne, without a doubt. Everything was superb - my one negative was that we ordered the greek salad and gave us the grain salad; but the meat was too good to complain!
Ed
We found ourselves at the Meat and Wine Co courtesy of a RedBalloon thing I had received as a gift. The reception upon arrival was perfunctory and we were shown to our little reserved table at the bar because of the shared plates and cocktails experience. The setting was actually very ill-suited to the experience - how does one fit four shared plates and two cocktails on a table barely 40 cm in diameter? Not to mention, the bartender seem dumbfounded when we told him that we were ready to begin the experience. The saving grace was the food but even then it’s probably not enough to entice us to return.
Ana Jansz
We have eaten here a few times now and over all it's a good experience, nice restaurant with good food but the service is not the best, staff could be nicer and on a few occasions we have had to wait a very long time for our food.
Joel Coffill
It was first time coming here and I was pleasantly surprised. Food was really nice, steak was cooked perfectly. Customer service not bad tho. Would recommend to anyone.
Evelyn Chen
A cozy restaurant with high quality service. Dining in with a group and enjoyed variety of meats. The cooking was great and food was treated carefully. Among all the dishes I prefer beef and lamb ribs and mashed potatoes aside. The butter was excellent but still figuring what else was in it. Although it took a bit longer waiting for our food but the taste was amazing.
HeraldSun Reviews
Way too long to be served, was quite frustrating. The Mac and cheese side dish was too watery, although it had good flavour. The most expensive steak on the menu 300g wagyu wasn’t as good as when ordered from other meat&wine co restaurants. Was quite disappointing to be honest, the South Yarra branch was more of a standout experience compared to this one.

The OMG moment!!

Right from the ambience, the location of this place and most importantly the food, this restaurant scores a 5/5...had a relaxed saturday afternoon lunch here... Inspite of the crowd, we were not rushed at all by the staff... Among the multiple dishes, the calamari entree was just outstanding... The steaks also were cooked to perfection as ordered... The closing desert of the chocolate foundant was again just amazing...

Looking forward to my next visit here when in Melbourne... This place is highly recommended and is a must visit when in Melbourne...

Happy eating!!!
Staff were friendly. The Steak and chips were very nice . Make sure that if you want tap water and not sparkling water that you let them know . I would recommend this place . Some of the steaks are a bit pricy though .
Crabapples For Lunch
A few of us had the ribs and steak here but both weren't very good. The steak was quite dry even though I ordered it medium rare, and the ribs didn't have much meat on it. Considering the price and the fact that their speciality is supposedly their meats, I wasn't impressed.

There are better places for steak and ribs around in my opinion.
P
Nice location, extensive wine list.
We ordered the half rack of beef ribs and full of the pork. The beef was a little tough and chewy, whereas the pork fell off the bone and was lovely. Also ordered a side of greens, a bit disappointed as most of it was just the stems. I had Tempranillo and my partner had a Shiraz, both were nice and well priced. Service was mildly inconsistent, never too bad but our glasses were empty for a fair while. However, I would say the supervisor of the shift put in a lot of effort to give a good experience. Essentially, a good place to get some meat and a wine!
Marcia Rodrigues
The best place for a steak. I happened to visit the place for our office Christmas lunch. We had a customised menu from which i selected the szechuan calamari which was made to perfection. I had a steak for mains (obviously!!), a new yorker with portuguese sauce. The steak was a melt in your mouth and the sauce was the best I’ve had at a steakhouse. I had a creme brulee for dessert and that was a real touchdown. A friend of mine tried the pavlova and was highly impressed too.

I would definitely come back to celebrate a special occasion.
Louise
Always good food when we go here. The price is reasonable for the quality of food they serve. Make sure to make a booking because they are always full most of the time, however they also entertain walk in guests. We did that twice - first time we were lucky enough to be seated straight away; the second time however we had to wait at least 45 minutes, that's why bookings are recommended. We usually order the steak platter between my husband and I, add a bowl of chips - and that's good enough for us (not to mention we eat a lot). the Kangaroo steak is a must try. They also gave us a free creme brulee for my husband's birthday. Good food, food ambiance. Definitely one of my favourite places in Melbourne to have dinner/lunch.
Thecheftable
It's a popular spot in South bank , very busy, we ordered steaks & rips they were Cooked nicely, a couple of things negative I actually notice is that the waitress try to Ruch you to order quick and it's a very noisy place. It's recommended if you after a good steak
LinLin ST
Not really sure what the rave is all about with this one... The szechuan calamari for entree was tasty but not a dish to brag about. The New Yorker steak was a little disappointing as it came out medium when I asked for medium/rare, and the mushroom sauce didn’t really have much flavor. Unfortunately my creme brûlée was runny, so the dessert wasn’t able to save my experience. Rather surprising from a 4.6 star rated restaurant!
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Been here a few times and it has been very consistent. They really do excel in quality meat and wine, obviously. Had various types of steaks and they are generally really good. Garlic bread came with manchego cheese on top. The Portuguese chicken is also really nice.
RickT
Been here twice and not sure why I came the second time. Veggies were luke warm and the steak is so average as it was the last time. There are much better steak joints in Melbourne. Give it a miss.
Tammy
Established in South Africa in 2000, this swankily outfitted restaurant has expanded to four continents in Sydney, London, Israel, Mozambique, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Kuwait & here in Melbourne. I was curious when I gathered that it holds strict absolute control from the sourcing of its meats produce to execution of its impeccable grills, roasts & plating processes, and we weren’t disappointed at all!
.
The steak came succulent & my favourite had to be the ribs that were grilled to a slightly edge-burnt charred texture, all tenderly falling off the bones and came beautifully glazed in a smoky BBQ sauce that wasn’t overly sweet. The portion looked big but it was wiped off quickly! The other interesting entree was the Sichuan Peppercorn-sprinkled Pork Belly! Crispy on the outside, yet so tender and juicy once sliced. Very appetising. I wished it was served as a main.
.
The last pic was of this special lemonade prepped with activated charcoal!! Tasted lemony & refreshing without the sharp sour aftertaste. I’d imagined it to help with my digestion! We went early for dinner at about 5pm and by the time we went off, the restaurant was FILLED with locals merrymaking over the hearty food. A popular place, with awesome meticulously prepared portions. Love it!
.
.
.
#melbourne #melbournefood #melbournefoodscene #melbournefoodblogger #melbournefoodie #themeatandwineco #australia #melbourne_insta #melbournefoodies

The meat lovers dream!

The pork belly was sizeable for an entree. It was impeccably cooked and melts in your mouth. A little too salty for my liking but that may be a palette preference.

The ribs were huge accompanied by big fat chips. Tastes amazing.

The Meat & Wine Co. has fantastic steaks, professional service, and a lovely environment, only to be slightly let down by their underwhelming sides.

We ordered the 450 Day Wagyu Ribeye Steak (MB6+), their special dry-aged Ribeye (off menu), the 150D Shorthorn New Yorker Steak, Szechuan Calamari, Mac & Cheese, and Garlic Bread.

Needless to say, the Wagyu was probably the most delicious steak I’ve ever had; it was incredibly tender due to the marbling and I couldn’t ask for more. The dry-aged Ribeye packed some extra flavour and was also quite tender, while the New Yorker was a bit disappointing due to it being a little dry, however, it was still a good steak. The Calamari was very nice as well; soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and had some nice subtle flavours.

Now on to the sides: the mushroom and garlic sauces were very plain and light. I understand that this is to retain the original flavour of the steak but it could’ve had a little more presence. The Fries and Mac & Cheese were not bad, but they were nothing special for the price.

Apart from the food, the environment was very comfortable with a modern yet rustic feel due to the beautiful timber used. The service was fantastic as our waiter was friendly and quite educational; he explained the differences between all the steaks and how they were prepared.

From my experience, I’d definitely recommend coming here for their steaks and calamari. Just don’t expect too much from their sides. I give it 4-stars, but it is very close to 5-stars.
Nikki
Went here for an early date night on Friday and I have to say staff were wonderful and friendly whilst being professional. We started with pork belly and Shizuan calamari which were both cooked perfect and tasty only heartbreak moment is no crackle! Hence why they get solid 4.5/5.
For mains had New York strip 120 days with black garlic butter and chips and chicken breast which were Lovley! Dessert was pavlova and as expected it was scrumptious, wine delicious and would recommend for people to visit. Great job team.
The Dear Luncher
Another one of these establishments where you think it looks pretty average from the outside, but float on in and just like a Transformer it reveals itself to be far more than meets the eye.

The Meat & Wine Co. is sensational from an ambience perspective. Multi-deck, couches, big tables, small tables - all sorts. There is a noticeable African theme present with the decor.

Plenty of steaks on offer obviously, but the lunch special is great value for the discerning foodie that wants to sample a few things at an entry level price of $49 for two courses (+ a drink).

The Dear Luncher ordered the parmesan panna cotta for the entreé and the 250g Wagyu rump for the main. Everything was high quality, barring a couple of minor faults. The request for the rump to be prepared medium ended up being a bit closer to well-done than one would prefer. In addition, the blue cheese sauce accompanying the steak was quite weak, it seemed more like a creamy sauce with a small fob of blue cheese melting in the middle.

These minor foibles aside, this was a superb dining experience. Always Come to this place every time I visit Melbourne.
This brand always deliver a good products, from ribs to steak.
With a small dry aged meat display, you can educate yourself and ask the chef what sort of cut and ask the dry aged process.

Fantastic ribs. Everything else was good too but man those pork ribs! Great service and a great night. We went with a group of six and had a great time. Will return soon.

I've been here twice and it is a nice place, but seems to fall short when compared to other restaurants at this price range/level. The ribs are the highlight dish here - huge full rack of pork ribs covered in smoky sauce on a huge bed of thick-cut fries. Deliciously juicy and satisfying. My only gripe is that for the price the ribs aren't hugely special. Steaks and other meats were a let down last time we came, better value and taste at other restaurants in the city.

Good food. Good wine. One can simply not complain. Will be back for more!
The service was efficient and food came out nice and hot. It’s good to ask staff for any recommendations on the menu

Deserved a 4.5 but lost a half due to a little slow on the drinks. Service was good though they just seemed under staffed but being a public holiday they probably were by design. Started off with the rib platter which had a mix of beef, pork and lamb, all of which I thought were exceptional. Had the 400g grass fed rib eye on the bone which was cooked to absolute perfection and was accompanied by a delicious and decent size side of mash. Great feed.

Love the elegance and classiness of the place!

What we liked
1. Calamari - definitely love the spice and batter
2. Onion rings- love the crispness of the onion
3. Salmon - was really tender and juicy! Definitely not dry at all
4. Chocolate fondant- our favourite dish ever! We could have easily ordered 3-4 more portion of this
5. Fries- love it with the dips! Especially the spicy sauce

Although the pork rib was good, we didn’t really think that it was tender or juicy. We found it a little dry compared to the ones we had elsewhere. However we will definitely return for the rest !

I’m not a massive steak enthusiast but the steaks this joint cooks up are amazing. Would definitely recommend the steak, as well as the calamari for an entree, so delicious along side their Szechuan sauce.

I must say the steak was delicious. Had the rib eye, which was cooked perfectly and has a tasty. For some it might be a little sweet. The Mac and cheese was good too, the pasta might have been a bit under done. The pork belly entree was full of flavour and a great entree. The dessert was decadent and the kitchen nicely decorated the dish for my partners birthday. The service was ok, a bit slow to clear the table, fill water or bring the eftpos machine. The decor seems slightly dated with all the wood furnishings.

Went here for a company dinner the other day and we ordered a bunch of steaks and ribs. The meat were succulant and tender. The flavour were there and they were cooked to perfection. Nothing to complain in the food. However, the service was a bit slow and the waiters seemed to be a bit hectic by themselves eventhough it wasn’t that full at that time we’re there. The ambiance of the place was a bit too dark for us and also a bit too noisy. But overall it was a pleasant dinner.

One of my favorite dinner place. I bring my parents here every time when they come to Melbourne. The steak and the lamb ribs are highly recommended.

The staff were friendly . The steak and potato were both very nice . Perhaps there could have been some vegetables on the plate too . The other thing that occurred is that we were given spring water and not told that there was a fee . It was all settled anyway .

Everything was amazing apart from the steak, which was a bit of a let down. Slightly over cooked but still edible. We were also served by Anna who took care of us so well! She made our dining experience that much better.

Best ribs in Melbourne - soft, fall off the bone deliciousness. The lunch special is a really good deal at $42 pp for a two course meal + drink. This was our second visit and we chose the beetroot & labne and bruschetta for entrees. Must admit we preferred the calamari and wagyu tartare more from our first visit. The St. Luis ribs were even better the second time round, just melted in the mouth & perfectly charred. The garlic sauce was fluffy and not too strong, great with chips.

First time coming here and I was pleasantly surprised that everything we ordered was quite good. We ordered the bruschetta and the calamari for starters and I ordered the grass fed rib eye with blue cheese sauce for my main. In terms of the steak i feel that Rare is better (not saying the steak was bad) however it does entrees better than Rare.
It is slightly cheaper than Rare so definitely a good alternative.

Love the location, staff , ambience & food.
I tried their Rib eye steak - medium rare along with a glass of Riesling. It was one the best dining experiences I had in Melbourne.
