Review Ca De Vin - Melbourne

Spoorthy Reddy
I have been here so many times that now it feels like my go to place when I don’t know where to eat! The place seems like a comfort zone to relax on an afternoon. It’s a tiny place set up between H&M and Myer on Bourke Street. So best pick once you’re tired of shopping. The best thing I like here is the garlic bread, love love it! Their pizzas are different, very light and soft but flavourful.

The atmosphere when you walk in is so calm, romantic and relaxing. You don’t even feel like you’re in Melbourne anymore. The food was so delicious and fresh and the Tiramisu cocktail was amazing. Perfect restaurant for a date night!

The food and service here was absolutely amazing. They were able to accommodate us even though we didn't have a booking (we'll be sure to make one next time though!) and the food portions were extremely generous for the prices we paid.

3 star for the food. Really good food. -1 star for the rude waitress. We arrived and she hardly offers us an available sits. When we already setted she did not offer us a menu nor comes back to take our order. -1 star for no choice of just meat. Or low carbs food. Overall experience was awesome. Best spot around Bourke st.

Love this hidden gem! Great atmosphere for a relaxed lunch, romantic date or quick coffee. The pizzas are delicious, nice selection of wines and desserts.

This Italian restaurant has a beautiful outdoor atmosphere. While the thin-crust Margherita pizza was delicious, the risotto we had was quite bland unfortunately.
Roya Biabani
The margarita pizza was too crunchy it felt like a biscuits. The place was too hot they only had couple of small fans. The margaritas cocktail wasn’t nice either.

Funky venue down an alleyway. The Agnolotti (spelling?)pasta with sage and butter was TO DIE FOR!! I could have eaten two servings though as it left me wanting more Choc Brownies and Shiraz pretty damn yummy too. One of the young staff members was super lovely and fun which added to rhe atmosphere 😀 Will go back

Loved our lunch at Ca de Vin! Pizza, salad and wine... what’s not to love. We ordered the calabrese pizza and goats cheese salad and spent a few hours munching and sipping on crisp white wine. I wish every day could be spent this way. Food was delicious, fresh and full of flavour. Service was great, atmosphere very relaxed and best of all... you’re right in the middle of the buzzing city but hidden in a little lane way. Big thumbs up 👍

Pizza tasted like frozen pizza from supermarket. Pasta very average. Overpriced, food not worth the price paid for

Used to go there when I was a student and almost forgot this little gem hidden away near Bourke Street. Friend suggested to go again and it was a great choice!

We ordered calamari and eggplant for entree and the salami pizza. Calamari was really yummy! Eggplant entree needs a bit more seasoning, I put both salt and pepper on it and still need a bit more sauce. Pizza on the other hand was great flavour!

Great city cafe atmosphere. Very friendly staff and a great escape from the usual cafes. There's s good range of meals to keep anyone satisfied and at reasonable prices. The coffees were exceptionally good as was our server from South Cornwall... what an accent!

Came here using an EatClub deal with a group of friends.. this place has a pretty good vibe.. the heating was pretty strong and we didn’t feel cold at all even though it was still winter.. the food here however was pretty normal, we had some mussels, a couple of pizzas and some pasta.. the pizza base wasn’t the best and there could be a bit more toppings.. the mussels and the pasta was decent..
Average meal overall but location wise and ambience was top notch...
Marco
We had the arancini, melanzane parmigiana and pappardelle picchio pacchio. The arancini was quite nice. The ingredients of the parmigiana were a good combination but could have had more flavour. The pasta was quite bland, missing the garlic and possibly some more parmesan.

Overall, a good experience. Ordered Margherita pizza and grilled vegetables. Pizza base was very thin and not stodgy at all. So if you are looking for a lighter pizza, would recommend here. Grilled vegetables were incredible, cooked perfectly and good serving to share with pizza. Not totally outstanding but very pleasant :)

Found this cute place in an alley just whilst walking to Flinders and the vibe was amazing. Service was perfect, however the Squid Ink Risotta Special was lack luster. Too bland and not enough ingredients for the price we paid ($23). Perhaps other things are nice but this was quite average.

Looking for Italian food around the city?
This would be one of the most popular one among the tourists. Located at the centre of Bourke St.

Good pizza, good pasta, good wine!
Precious Anand ( The Indie Foodie)
The most surreal atmosphere! Such a well thought out menu that has been executed perfectly! Loved the outdoor setting and the furniture! Food was fast and fresh! The seafood was so fresh and well cooked! We also had pizza which was so yummy. Would definitely come here again time and time again!

Meh.

I went on my friends birthday to the restaurant that offers mainly Italian but also Greek and Spanish.

I found this very strange to begin with as I have watched enough Kitchen Nightmares to know that too many cuisines are hardly ever successful at restaurants. Nevertheless, it wasn’t my birthday and my friend insisted on going.

The pasta was bland and the salad too salty. All dishes could have been easily been made at home on a weekday without much effort. There goes cheese in Risotto, please make a note. The risotto was watery but at least not as bland as the pasta.

Don’t think I’ll be returning as there’s a million other places in the city for better value although the venue is nice and so is the staff (just not very attentive).

Overall not bad but neither is my cooking so I’d rather save my night out for something sensational
Corrina
Nicely decorated restaurant that has caught our eye many times walking by, and finally we decided to try it out.
The margarita was exceptionally bland. Nothing but a thin pizza base with cheese and cold tomato cheese.
The Napoli was not much better, too salty and that’s a lot to say because I love salty foods.
Honestly 0 complaints about this place. Service was attentive, quick, and friendly. Food was great with large portions and cooked to perfection. We had the capriciosa pizza, calamari salad and the bruschetta, all of which were spot on. The location is also beautiful and is the best spot for a date and to take cute pics for the gram. Ive recommended this place to many of my friends, and those that have tried eating there have agreed to my thoughts. Definitely worth checking out and would go back in a heartbeat

Visited the restaurant as I have done many times. They were half full we waiters for 49 minutes as others arrived and received their food. Our order was never entered. We enquires twice and still nothing. The third time we spoke to the manager who said it was our fault for not bringing it to his attention earlier. When I said his staff are his representatives he dismissed them. After an hour we finally received the food. The food itself was fine but the services is a disaster. With so much competition in the area you can’t afford to treat customers this way. It’s completely unacceptable.

We arrived at 9pm when they were closing at 10pm... however the staff were happy to serve us.
Order the Jamon pizza - it was simply fantastic. Super crispy pizza base, lots of truffle oil. Very authentically Italian.
Would recommend and would go back. Thank you!

Not all the stars!
Great location right in the heart of Bourke st. Lovely alleyway vibe which is great for a table with friends or a romantic dinner for two.
The food however was average.
We ordered a pasta, the pasta was a little hard and a pizza which, whilst large in size, was more like a crisp bread with topping.
The staff were mostly tentative but seemed to have short attention spans and seem uninterested.
Ending up spending approx. $50 for two, so not outrageous but for $50 the food could have been better.
Hayden Alsop
I really like the atmosphere and ambiance here. Very hip and trendy, I ordered the veal ragu, which was delicious, generous in size. I ordered a medium rare steak, friend ordered the moussaka. Was really impressed with the steak, no salad or chips as a side and the meat was already cut up and plated nicely. I really enjoyed this place.

A friend picked this place for our dinner catch up. A good picked up for nice dinner on Thursday night. The weather is hot, so the venue is perfect as it's in open air with big fan blows up cool air. We ordered few pizza and pasta. Pizza base is really nice, its thin base and crunchy. Pasta also tasty. Their serving is generous portions as well. Happy with our choice.

Real rating 3.5 ⭐️

Hidden in an alcove of Bourke Street, we had stumbled across Ca de Vin and thought we would try it out!

Garlic bread - this was fresh though some parts of it were too hard for my liking. A good entree to start before the mains.

Marinara pizza - topped with a wide array of seafood, this pizza was full of fresh flavors from the sea! The dough was well mixed though I would have preferred a thicker crust - it felt too weak.

Penne pollo - filled with mushrooms, pork pancetta, garlic, chili, pesto, chicken, cream and parmesan, this dish was not too bad. I felt it was a little bit too wet.

Overall, we were satisfied but felt the experience could have been better. We will visit again to try their other pizzas and pastas!

Hyped place.
Long waiting, no turning on of the heaters during winters, the food is just okay-ish.
The rates are high as compared to the quality of food.
Quinn Tran
I love this place ❤️ i love the atmosphere, the space and everything, great service, nice and friendly staff, good food, good price, and very italian, great wine, always crowded and might need to wait

The extra long pizzas to share served on a wooden paddle right in the heart of Melbourne CBD on bustling Bourke St Melbourne GPO is a long time favourite of mine whether it’s for a quick bite to eat during lunch or a relaxing dinner.

Went for a sunday day lunch here. The place looks good as the Melbourne GPO lanely has been converted into a couple of chic cafe. The look of this place is good.
The service is not so good. Since we did not want to block the way for the moving crowds, we occupied the corner table among the almost empty cafe. The waitress came on us very rudely for occupying the table and not waiting. I wanted to ask why the front desk was left empty for about 10-15 mins when we were waiting to be attended by someone. But well, her courtesy was back when it was time to pay the bill.
The food is good, fresh and nice. We ordered 2 pasta, coffee and hot chocolate. The hit chocolate was creamy and yum. The salmon pasta was very tasty and nice. However, not worth such high price.
Maybe with a better hospitality, price we pay will be accounted for.
Anyways, will not want to go back here.

Hands down the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered in Melbourne!! The rudeness is shocking, my friend told me about it and then we got there. Simple question of, “can we sit in the outside area”? Was met with rude response. To having to wait 15+ minutes for someone to take our orders. I’m glad we refused to order food because that’s a cluster f*** of a restaurant. Oh one of the male waiter decided to move the barrier without warning, just a simple “you could have advised us that you were about to move the wall as our bags were leaning on it” was met with anger and again rudeness no apology. I do not care if you’re “European” restaurant. Treat your customers right.

Came for an afternoon snack with some friends visiting from overseas and was extremely disappointed by the service from all the waitstaff. When coming to take our orders, the waitress#1 asked if we were ready, I looked at my friends to see if they were ready, and the waitress rudely said "are you ready or not?" We asked waitress#2 for hot sauce and she glared at us as if we were uncultured and stupid. She never brought us our hot sauce, which led to us asking waitress#3 for it. No stories about her, she was impersonal and impolite but she brought us our long-awaited hot sauce. After our meal, waitress#4 brought the bill to us and asked us to check it, I said that everything was there and gave her my card. She looked at our table and rudely pointed out that there were drinks on our table but not on the bill, suggesting that we were being dishonest. We looked back at her in confusion, and she repeated herself, even angrier. I calmly pointed at the bill, and showed her that the soda and two coffees were printed very clearly. She still made it seem like we were the idiots, and walked off.

The coffees and pizza were mediocre, service was absolutely horrible.

Came here for lunch today as recommended by a friend. It's such a lovely place in a nice little laneway. The heaters were on full blast making it warm and cosy. I love the atmosphere and ambience, very hip and trendy. I ordered the veal ragu, which was delicious, generous in size, not too heavy but would like a little more veal. Really enjoyed this place and loving the Melbourne feel.

Came Ca de Vin tonight with work mates and the atmosphere was quite and chill. Along the small alley way with some wooden tables really lift up the memories. The food were not outstanding but still nice tho, my people said one pasta was oily, hard to swallow. Nice experience really happy with bunch of mates out!!!😍
Good Food, Good Mood
Melbourne’s little European hideaway! Nestled against the old GPO, Ca de Vin has fast, attentive service and a real homey vibe from the moment you walk through.

I ordered a medium rare steak, friend ordered the moussaka. Was really impressed with the steak, no salad or chips as a side (just came with roast veggies) and the meat was already cut up and plated nicely. The moussaka was a bit rich but portion size was very large, no wonder why the waitress asked “is this for sharing?” 😂 nope! Would definitely come back here again.

After an evening of bar hopping, we were in search of a nice late night meal in the city.
We passed Ca de Vin by chance, but the gorgeous little dimly lit laneway instantly caught our eye.
The menu had all the classics and plenty of options. I opted for a pizza while my friend chose a pasta and we both ordered a glass of red. Upon first glance, the pizza was the biggest I’ve ever seen. However, the base was so wonderfully biscuit-thin that I was able to get through most of it! And it was really delicious. I loved the setting and atmosphere of this place and I would happily return.

The ambience is stunning, especially if you visit late in the evening. The food is also good. It’s a busy restaurant so the service could be a bit tacky.
Hungrygypo
good quick service.
pizza is nice. lamb scewers are tasty and the bread that comes with it is delicious. chicken main dish was also really nice, chicken was extremely tender and moist. only downfal was the calamari salad. was extremely bland and not worth $30 for the quantity.
overall had a nice vibe and food was fresh and tasty.

Ca De Vin, bourke st, Melbourne cbd, cuisine - Italian! Lovely place song the GPO building - very historic feel to it. The vegetarian pasta was great- even with Napoli sauce (which I normally don’t prefer). They did struggle following their menu though. My pasta dish didn’t say Napoli sauce in the description and my colleagues’ ordered the same risotto, however one was red and another was white! The chef probably just does what his instincts tell him 😝 why follow the rules? Everything was delicious so worked out in the end! Great lunch place in the heart of the city. @cadevin #rating3.5 #instablogger #foodblogger #italianfood #bourkest #melbournecbd #citylunches #catchupwitholdfriends #pastaismyfavouritefoodgroup #ilovepasta #ilovemelbourne #igersmelbourne #melbournebesteats #ican eatpastaalldayeveryday #winterishere #vegbourne #vegetarianrocks #vegetarian #veg

A cute little italian restaurant hidden in postal lane on Bourke St. Came here for lunch for a work meeting and it was great! We firstly ordered starters to share and the calamari was amazing! Great flavour and they were so soft and tender. I then had Rigatoni Arrabiata for main and it was beautiful also! Pasta was cooked perfectly and a decent sizing also for the price. Just a bit too much sauce for the amount of pasta but otherwise really good. Staff were also very friendly.. a great place to know of to visit again :)

Don't be fooled. Even when not busy, they move you to tables of their preference, and then they forget you. An fat guy, probably the owner, constantly chats with friends while ignoring everyone else. I would not go there again.Avoid
One of my favorite Italian eatery. Been there many times. There margarita pizza is really good, so is chicken pasta and stewer.
Easy accessible by public transport and this place has a very vibrant vibe to it.
Give it a try once.

It's my go to pizza place after tiring Bourke street strolling. Ambience is 10/10 and love the stuff with thick accents.
I actually love there pizzas they are so nice and crisp and eggplant frites with cumin dip.
Ca de bin semillion sav Blanc is always a good idea to gulp those Delish heavenly pizzas

Good food, good music, good service. A perfect place for a cosy eating.
Pizza was nice thin and crispy, flavoring on the dot and not to heavy.
Calamari was fresh and soft, very tasty and easy to eat !!!
Highly recommended 😄

Bad customer service, been waiting for more than 30 mins for food. Many people who came after us got their food first. When I asked the lady who took my order to check up on my order, she asked me what I ordered before and turns out she didn’t even put in the order. We’ve asked many of the staffs but none of them gave us an answer after 15 minutes. Person in charge during that night was pretty rude and didn’t try to take much action to compensate, vibe she was giving wasn’t at all friendly or at an expected standard. Just really disappointed with the service of the staffs. Come to Ca de vin if you’d like to have your night ruined.
AJ
Food was not that great all of the toppings for the pasta was on one side and all of the pasta was on one side. The cutlery was blunt and wonky was really long. You needed to stand up every time someone went by because tables were close together.
Georgia.elkhoury17
Waitress had no customer service skills, denied the under cooked food, ignored us for the first 15 minutes. never returning. The chicken skewers were pink. After being cooked again, they were still under cooked. I told the waitress "this still isn't cooked it's pink, chicken shouldn't be pink, what if i get food poisoning?". The waitress replied: "it's pink because it's cooked" (doesn't make any sense??), and "NO, you won't get food poisoning". The waitress then stormed off with our food, came back and proceeded to charge us the full amount even though we only took one bite of the chicken skewers before realising they were practically raw. Ca de Vin - big no no.

The Ambience is awesome at night and the outdoor seating with amazing heating in that tiny lane ticks all the boxes. When we come to the food it let down u less you order pizza they look and smell amazing. We ordered eggplant chips and the bakes cheese for an appetizer and the seafood Linguine and Pasta Pollo for the main. The mains were ok nothing special though, but the appetizer were no what expected at all.
Brianna Marie
So bland and boring! How is this place so popular, seriously? I guess the only thing it has going for it is location and nice decor. Both myself and my partner did not bother finishing our meals, because why bother.
Joshua Waddell
This food wasn't anything special. I had the carbonara which was on the list of foods people likes and found the pasta bland with only the pancetta giving it flavour. My girlfriend had the marinara pizza she said it was equally as boring.
Rosie Raiti
Great pizzas- marinara could have more topping but presented beautifully, the meat pizza was delicious full of flavour and topping..great laneway cozy restaurant, warm and cozy .

I love Italian food. Whenever I am in the city, this is the place I always go to. The industrial, dark, romantic, warm, candle-lit, surprisingly quiet ambiance of this alleyway restaurant appeals to me. The service is super-friendly and professional. The food, above all, is scrumptious and al dente. My favourites are the Calabrese Pizza and Penne Pollo.

Always a delight at Ca De Vin.
Willtravelforfood17
A nice place to go for a casual dinner. Food ok - my friend had the seafood pasta in a bag and it was well presented although was a little bland and pasta was a little overcooked. I had the carbonara which was not bad, well seasoned and pasta was al dente.
HeraldSun Reviews
Pasta was average. Worst service in the cbd. Menu is limited and bland. No atmosphere or happy vibe. Ordered a carbonara but got a pollo pasta, ordered a latte but got a cappuccino. If half the glass is froth mr.barista, it is not a latte, it is a cappuccino. Don't recommend to anybody who has a reasonable standard

Located in Melbourne's GPO, Ca De Vin serves up moreish Mediterranean cuisine. The eatery serves a range of food options that caters to a wide variety of tastes. The ambience at Ca De Vin is its strongest pulling point - Constantly bustling with plenty of passer-bys due to its central Melbourne CBD location. The restaurant has been opened since 2004 and has a loyal band of follower and it is easy to understand why. There is a sense of warmth and hospitality that is truly palpable.

Located at the Melbourne GPO next to H&M, me and a friend were happy to discover this place while walking through the laneway.

The place was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon but we were seated straight away. I ordered the striploin steak and my friend had the spaghetti carbonara.

When my food arrived, it looked really good even though I've notice some of the carrots were burnt. The carrots were still pretty yummy though and as for the steak it was juicy and tender, I wanted more! Lol. My friend said he really enjoyed his meal and I could tell - he literally cleaned the plate!

Service was prompt and the staff were friendly and helpful, would definitely return.

Arron Conran
Very nice, setting was amazing. Pizza was some of the best I've had in Melbourne, big serving. Pasta dishes were good along with the thin cut fries. I would highly recommend, will return.
Elaine Rojas
Avoid! The worst service in Melbourne. We had to ask for everything several times, no one asked us how everything was and the worst of all they wouldn't allow us to split the bill even though nowhere in the menu or the restaurant it was written that they do not split bills; when we complaint about it we had the manager tell us that she hoped we wouldn't come back there.
Jaymie
Lovely little restaurant in the lame way between Myer and GPO. It's pricey but yummy. We have the mushroom pizza, calamari and the pasta pesto with chicken. We also had a bottle of santa vittoria water and a glass of house red. Not a lot of change from $90. We'll be back again
Kane
Hard to fault. Friendly service, quick, delicious food (margarita pizza & carbonara), generous serves. Although fantastic, pasta was a little to salty.
Facebook User
Great location. Great atmosphere. Food excellent.
Had the lamb skewers and penne pollo which couldn't fault. Staff attentive. About to try the dessert. Waitress recommends Creme Catalane.

Good location to take a break during shopping as this restaurant is located in next to GPO. Good atmosphere at dinner time, but service was not impressed just staff were doing their routine. My friend and I had seafood linguine and pizza. Pasta was good, I like the taste, however, pizza was a bit salty for me.
FoodHedonist
I am not sure if I went there on a bad day but I didn't enjoy anything that I ordered except the lemon lime bitters. The service was good though and I can imagine the atmosphere being amazing in the evenings. It just failed to impress me unfortunately.

Ca de WIN!!!

I have seriously walked past this place so many times and had no idea it even existed. Really nice venue with plenty of atmosphere. Staff were pleasant and food arrived quickly.

We ordered the Calbrese Pizza and Penne Pollo.
The food was seriously good and great servings. Pizza is definitely the pick for me. Thin crispy base and crust.

Great Value and will definitely be coming back!

Kayacrackerrs
My rating is based on:
1. Their great linguini carbonara - tasty, not too heavy and makes me constantly want more
2. The ambience albeit being in a place too convenient. Having a great restaurant right next to Myer on Bourke street is a gem!
Chee Ching Low
What I like: their pizzas and pesto
Their carbonara can be quite inconsistent.
Their mussels were so-so.
Their tiramisu was okay. I wanted a creamier and more intense taste from it.
Overall, I would say it's a rather safe place to eat your dinner.
The Harsh Critic
Summary:

Food - 3.5
Drinks - 3.5
Service - 2
Pram friendly - yes but need to leave pram on side
Pet friendly - unsure

We ordered a paella and ribeye to share. Paella had very generous amount of seafood. It is a bit spicy but it was quite nice. Ribeye was cooked spot on for medium. For drinks, I ordered a Smallfry Riesling. Quite sweet in palette, good with the paella. Atmosphere is quite nice, just like the trattoria in the alleyway you found in Italy. The place was so packed there just aren't enough waiters to serve the customers.
Jean
Ca De Vin was a great find when I just finished doing some window shopping at MYER. The setting, atmosphere and food are all excellent - creating a nice European feel to the proceedings. Over time, it has not remained a location I visit a lot but whenever I do I am reminded as to why I feel in love with it in the first place.
Kenji Maratimo
Went there today, quite cool in a way, up an alleyway, pouring rain held up just ok.
Ordered the Radicchio and Fig salad which was very nice. We also ordered the Peperoncino which is the generic Italian name for hot chili peppers, however our pizza was far for m hot. It was ok but no great, it was dry and lacked flavour, the cheese slide off and the salami or pepperoni was...Well just ok.
The place would be great for coffee with friends but I could not help getting annoyed by the constraint traffic of people.walking by and coughing g while passing us.
Worth a visit try something else.
Andrew R Buchel
Restaurant located in the lane way next to The Melbourne GPO (currently H&M store).

Ordered a flat bread and spaghetti carbonara. The flat bread was very crispy and the carbonara was good, however could have used more pepper and Parmesan for my tast

Staff were generally ok, if a little distant (had to get their attention as no one asked even if I wanted a second drink). This may have been because I visited on a Thursday night and they appeared quite busy.

Ultimately if you want the best Italian food, go to Lygon Street. But if you're on Bourke Street and you want pasta, this place isn't too bad.
Jenna Brindley
Mum and I came here for dinner the other night. Food was amazing! Really fresh and tasty. Very well priced. Only thing was that hey bought the food out very quickly. Other than that I would highly recommend this restaurant.
The Reviewer
came to this café on an outing to the city. Restaurant about 40% full on a weekday. Wanted to sit at a table that was nice for a quick coffee and was told by the waitress that I couldn't sit there as there were 4 seats and my party was only 2 people. Even though there were ample tables of all sizes available. I was stunned that an establishment would do that, I understand if it was a peak times etc, but at 4pm when everyone is just after a drink/coffee etc, it's inappropriate. Got up and walked off and went to koko black in the arcade across the road. Much better service and the chocolate was awesome. Won't be back to CA DE VIN. No way. Such a waste.
Good Food Good Mood
Carb loading on a weekend in a little laneway is there anything better? Had a perfect Margherita here in this distinctly Melbourne location. I have walked past a million times and never ventured inside on the assumption that being so central it would be tourist city but we were able to enjoy the lovely atmosphere in relative seclusion. You enter through a huge wrought iron door into a kind of gothic space with lots of candles and lanterns. The perfect place for a date
Sean
This little gem is a lovely Bourke St surprise almost hidden squashed in a narrow laneway between Myer and the old GPO. Great, efficient friendly service and fresh tasty food to match. We chose tasting plates. Do try the sausage, antipasto, and feta parcels. The perfect choice for when you're looking to escape manic Bourke St but don't want to wander too far.
Bazz
Walking in from the busy Bourke st mall, where the queue for the Myer windows Christmas display stretched down to outside the laneway that hosts this delightful European flavoured restaurant. The three of us shared two pizzas (smoked salmon and Gamberi ). Both pizzas were excellent for the crust and the fresh taste of the toppings.
The French fries were the only average item we had
Overall it cost $73 for the two pizzas and fries, along with two lemon drinks and a coke.
Overall, a lovely spot to go for any reason and an excellent place to take any visitor as it is so Melbourne but also could be anywhere in Europe.
Mr Fox
Nice place for drinks after work. Serves some good pizza so you can stick around for some good eats. Good central location in the middle of the city.
Plummy Loves Yummy
Lovely pizzas, nice thin bases and more traditional than some of the other "Italian" restaurants in town. Considering this restaurants so central I think it's quite reasonably priced.

Highly recommended if ur peckish whilst doing your Christmas shopping.

I had the jamon pizza. Personal favourite of mine.

Yum
Harrykarakinos
Port Arlington mussels a must here. Pizza great. Who would think this place is in Bourke street. Reasonable service, relaxed. Wine list not comprehensive. Did I say the mussels are awesome...if your into them

Food was very average especially for the price. I had a seafood linguine which has quite bland. Nice little spot - they could do a lot better.

I really love this hidden Italian restaurant:)for me they make the best pizza in Melbourne. When I'm craving for pizza I always come here. Also seafood pasta is really tasty too.Atmosphere here is so good as well.

Food is good but not amazing, comparing to the serving size and price it would be pricy. I could have any similar taste in a random Italian restaurant on Lygon. However, nice atmosphere, cozy and pretty when candle are lit up in the evening. May be a nice place for a date😉

Love the atmosphere of this place. The open air laneway is hard to beat. The service is attentive and friendly. Food is wonderful. A great place to grab some food and drinks while taking a break from shopping.

Great food great service. One of my favourite pizzas in town. Perfect location and atmosphere in the heart of CBD. Definitely will come back again

Won our hearts”
Certainly very pleased with the ambience, service, food and drinks! We particularly loved the Margherita Pizza and the pasta linguine Cartoccio, beautiful dish of prawns, fish and mussels. The only regret was probably not staying for dessert! Perhaps our next visit?!
Diamado
One of my all-time favourite restaurants, wholesome beautiful Mediterranean food and friendly staff. I keep going back to this place; it has never dropped its standards over the years. My all-time favourite the eggplant fritters with the cumin dip, saganaki Greek cheese grilled, topped with honey and fig jam. Dinner mains are a generous serving, I enjoyed the twice cooked crispy duck . Definitely recommend this little hidden treasure!

While this place is a little expensive for the quality of food you get, compared to other italian places in the area, the service is great and its in a very iconic Melbourne laneways. Great place for a first date to impress!

Find me on Instagram @melbourne_explorer or MelbourneExplorer.com.

First time visiting this place. I read a few reviews and decided to go with a pasta. I ordered the Penne pollo which had diced sautéed free range chicken win garlic, chilli, mushrooms and pancetta cooked in a creamy pesto sauce. I requested it with some extra chillies. I can honestly say it's full of flavour however I found my pasta a bit too greasy and at the bottom of my plate a lot of oil has been collected and at the end of the meal I felt it was too rich in the oil. Over all the flavours were beautiful and well seasoned. Only negative point was that the pasta was not worth for $25. The portion was too small. It wasn't filling.

My friend ordered the chargrilled chicken skewers, marinated in smoked paprika, lemon and olive oil and tahini dip; drizzled with honey mustard sauce. It lacked seasoning but overall my friend enjoyed it.

Would I recommend it to anyone? I would, the location was beautiful and the lit candles made the environment so nice. It was a nice chilled out spot, but the portions are not too great. But it's good for first timers.

We ordered a pomodoro and a salmon special of the day, the dish is quite small and does not taste good. Yet the ambiance is really good. But the food and drink are so not worth the money.

You only come here for the food. Don't expect too much from the service because it's absolutely rubbish.
All the pastas are beautiful, pizzas are thin and really big & main dishes are all splendid.

Surprise surprise! A touristy restaurant with quality! Great ambiance, in a cute little laneway, with candlelight. I've had the pizza and pasta, the pizza was sensational. The pasta (penne pollo) was also nice, though a little too greasy. Overall highly recommended. Would def go back.

I thought to myself, this place must be shite! It's tourist money here --
but no. I was wrong.
The pizza I had was good. And the vibe was beautiful. It's a kind of tacky however irresistible dating spot.

Tucked inside postal lane this is a very cozy space for dinner . Loved the salt & pepper calamari salad - tender and crisp , and their pear ciders!

This little place is nestled next to the GPO building, or H&M. The first thing that struck me was the lanterns and candles, also a large wrought iron door with a beautiful intricate design. The hostess was very polite and helpful to find a seat, lunchtime is very busy, but they are very, accommodating to find you a table, only waited for five minutes. The food was fresh and authentic Italian, had the pizza it was absolutely delicious, also shared a small entree pasta, also fresh and light not too greasy or oily perfect. Love their espresso Italian coffee too. And if you have room after all that try the tiramisu is absolutely divine. It's not cheap. Service was attentive and very polite so you pay for quality it's worth it. Enjoy.

A lovely hideout tucked away in the heart of the city. We ordered the zucchini pizza and bruschetta to share, and espresso martinis. Service was very fast. I liked the atmosphere - buskers just outside on the street and the grunginess of being in a semi-outdoor street setting. The pizza was delicious (although I am a sucker for truffle oil), but there was a bit too much rocket for the relatively small amount of zucchini. Bruschetta could have used more toppings, but liked the flatbread style of it. Overall, we were satisfied and will probably be back for more pizza.

great PIZZA and a decent beer selection. punters ca find this place in one of Melbourne's iconic lane-way eateries.
ill always return here for a good night out ;)
CoolBeans
It's in the GPO building. You might miss it entirely if not for the beautiful smells that waft through the air around the area. It's the perfect little place hidden away, for a catch up with a friend while shopping or just have lunch or dinner. It offers Italian food and it's delicious. There was a good selection of wine offered as well. Will definitely keep going back:)
Blueberrypie
A little piece of Italy hidden in a lane. Delicious pizzas and pastas, has a very cozy feeling in winter and a covered ans relaxing feeling in summer. Great service, a little on the expensive side however.

Ca De Vin is a hidden Italian gem located between Myer and H&M. The pizza's are of a high quality, with mouth watering toppings and excellent thin bases. Tiramisu was authentic and well crafted. Overall, a must try for city fine dining.

Loved this little gem for lunch hidden away in this great laneway, ordered the margerita pizza and radicchio salad to share, pizza was good although was a little bland needed a little seasoning, salad was beautiful, I'm a bit of a salad freak and this ticked all boxes. Reasonably priced, great location for a quick lunch in midst of shopping 😍

What a cozy Italian cafe hiding in between Myer and H&M. Great chilling place...Extraordinary presentation of bruschetta, freshly cured salmon and eggplant chips. Beautiful cozy ambience, friendly Italian service and delicious food. Will be back to try more...

Uhmm..i can say that its is little but crowded and noisy resto located in The heart of CBD.The pizza is great I like how they bake it with very thinnnnn base. The menu is limited and the quality of the dish is below standard especially the seafood one. The services is very bad, some of them have very bad attitude thats make me hesitate to introduce to my friends. Overall, ok to try out but not likely to come back
Services: 2.5/5
Atmosphere: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Value for money: 3/5
Presentation: 3.5/5

While the location is perfect and ambiance is great the food and price of it just didn't quite hit the mark. While not being awful, it was at best average by comparison to other similar venues in the CBD. Service was okay - again average at best. On the whole it was okay for a quick stop but nothing to write home about and you wouldn't bother with a return visit.

Fresh Italian food with decent portions at a reasonable price. Beautiful euro setting. Unfortunately they have a limited bar range and mainly offer beer and wines.
