Review Palermo - Melbourne

Darshil Mehta
I have never been to a restaurant where the staff is so courteous and conscious about the perfection of the food and willing go above and beyond to offer free food when the food is not cooked to perfection. Needless to say that every food item was perfectly cooked, with the right balance of sides. An excellent collection of wine to go along with each dish. Then flan in the dessert was the highlight. A spectacular place to be.

I have found a new place to add to my favourites. Everything was spot on. Food was incredible - all dishes I had were mouthwatering but my top pick would be the tartar, the lamb and the potatoes. The mood - not too bright or dark, not too loud with the music. The service was also fantastic. I will definitely be returning and recommending.

Wonderful service, excellent dietary accommodations. The veg and sides were phenomenal. Unfortunately the dry aged cuts had run out by the end of the evening, and the special was good but not terribly memorable. Very reasonably priced, solid execution, but unfortunately the meat was not at the level we were hoping for.
Nope Not Today
Just booked that primo packages to celebrate my love one's birthday tonight and everything was fully satisfy. Good ambience and super friendly staff, they explained their menu and meal patience to us, since we're not that good on English listening. Also, I was unexpected drunk and feel like my stomach up side down during appetizers. But their main course was so tasty, specially that crispy pork skin bring me back to the mood and I can continue my dinner. Overall, everything was perfect. Except that grilled provolone cheese was little too chewy for us, it gonna be great if we could have some bread things to help us swallow easier.

Great food and service too! We were very looked after. Food came promptly not much waiting between. Everything was well cooked and flavoured. Lovely setting make sure you do organise ahead to book a table. Desserts - the flan was a great highlight!

I mean Wow. Very good experience. The food was cooked to perfection and it was top quality and fresh. Service was fast and friendly. It s highly highly recommend. I have 2 criticism: 1- the meat selection is a little limited 2- the meet prices are a little rich compared to some of the other great steak hosues in Melbourne. That being said i will return 100% any time i get the chance 👌

It's a nice fine restaurant with several beautiful signature dishes. The appetizer pan grilled cheese is crispy at top and soft at the bottom. The charcoal grilled scotch fillet is the best steak ever. The onion aioli for the fried potato is so smooth. My wife and daughter are satisfied for their birthday celebration. Thank you very much.

By far my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. The food is made on open fire, which gives it that “oh damn! that is good” taste. I would highly recommend the set menus and then add to it if there is something else you would like to try.

We went to Palermo for dinner and we were blown away with the flavours, the atmosphere, the music, the wine and specially the service. Our waiter Luke was very nice and efficient as well as Brooke. Thanks Palermo for the awesome experience, we will definitely be returning. 100% Recommended !!! Miguel Bellido

We were 8 people and a last minute booking. Very welcoming with bubbly attentative service. We had a set menu with each dish so full of flavour and just amazing. The meat was the best around and we left feeling very happy with our dinner experience. Thank you Palermo, we will return!

Great service. The wait staff were fantastic. The food was to die for. And the cocktail? Amazing!!!!!!
Michelle Pirovich
The food is great, as is the service, but if you come in a large group and have to do the set menu, be prepared to be seriously ripped off, not worth the $$ you have to pay.

The food and the service is fantastic, the place has a good vibe and a great wine selection!!!!

We came for my birthday dinner on the 23rd after our friend highly recommended the restaurant. I can honestly say it was the best meat I have ever eaten. I was so impressed and can’t wait to come back.

Loved loved loved Palermo. We had an early dinner here after the theatre. Have eaten at San Telmo several times and it was just as good if not better. Food and service were exceptional and another great new find in Melbourne.

Can’t say enough about this restaurant. great ambiance delicious food. Great little wine list.

Go there...It is a fantastic place to eat with friends... Art De Dente- It is the Dental surgery for you-Calming and the most advanced clinic with experienced clinicians looking after you
Clarice Tang
Fantastic food but extremely disappointed with the service. It was an extremely hot restaurant where the waiters were not able to offer much to rectify the situation. Will do San Telmo instead. Not worth the money especially when we had to pay extra surcharge for no comfort.

Fantastic beautiful steak !!great service staff the best

Went for lunch today and thought the food was great. Ordered a range of food to try and share. Wasn’t disappointed. No room for dessert though. During our lunch, we were served by 4 different people at different times, all very pleasant and accomodating. Would I go back? For sure, other dishes to explore.

Fantastic service, lovely food, just a bit noisy but overall great night.

Thanks Johnny and Paul, for an incredible night. Was awesome. You picked us awesome food. Cheers guys.

Mouth watering beef served up! Delicious. Palermo is a must try CBD restaurant.

3.8 starts. Another “cook at home” meal delivered by @providoor with ample time to heat up and plate at home. Knock outs were the tartare and dulce de leche tiramisu. Recipe online with a playlist to create ambience. Missing Evoo on the Buratta. Not sure what that was. May have heightened the flavour a bit. The short ribs with polenta were really heavy and we only ate 1/4 of the dish. @palermomelbourne 5dishes $120 paired with Wine from @thehillswinebar

One of our favourite restaurants! Love everything from the menu to the service. Can’t wait till you reopen!

Got put onto Palermo when i failed to book a seat and their sister restaurant San Telmo.
After dining at San Telmo for several years i found the food experience on par, which is excellent.
Had the tartar beef, steak special, burnt carrots, potatoes, chicken, all yum.
I think the service was actually better than San Telmo, with the waiter very helpful in explaining everything.
Restaurant was only half full on a Friday afternoon, which is a long shot from San Telmo.
Highly recommend!

The eye fillet steak was tender melt in your mouth with such a delicious chargrilled taste that adding anything to it was a sin. Did not disappoint, I was in meat heaven.

My friend and I ate here at the end of last year, and had no problem getting a table. Service was amazing as soon as we walked in: friendly but not invasive, and really efficient. Food recommendations were given easily when we felt overwhelmed by the incredible menu. We started with two corn and cheese empanadas, and had the slow cooked beef with a side of lechugas and papas. Salsa and peri peri sauce were served with the beef, and it was INCREDIBLE! Melt-in-your-mouth, absolutely-to-die-for flavour. We loved it. The sides were fantastic as well. When in Argentina, we opted for the malbec, which topped off an already beautiful meal. The decor, service and food just can't be beat here. Absolutely wonderful experience. Thank you!

Given how much our combined lunch came out to, I was a bit underwhelmed by everything we had here. I mean nothing was terrible, but for what we paid it definitely wasn't amazing. In particular, the steak while much hyped, I found to have more gristle and more chewy than steaks we've gotten elsewhere.
KP
Absolutely stunning ambience, amazing food and great customer service! We had a wonderful 1st dining experience at Palermo, especially with their shared menu. Stand outs include: empanadas, papas potatoes, t-bone & flan. We also had for sides the meat platter, broccolini, octopus, oysters, arancini and pumpkin.

Excellent option to try South American cuisine. The food is very tasty and innovative. The meat option are great but I would ensure you try the fish as well.

One of the best meat house I’ve been too, the service was on point. Food was full of flavours, the meat was cook perfectly. Would come back here again !

Went here for dinner with friends. My goodness this place is Amazing! We shared a selection of South American dishes, Wine & enjoyed a high quality service from the staff.
Will definitely return.

My new favourite place in the city! Went here on a whim as we were passing it and it seemed intriguing. I've actually been to San Telmo its sibling restaurant before but I was more impressed by Parlermo.

Price
Food is on the pricier side, but every dish we had was really tasty!

Staff
Really attentive and great when asked about dietary needs too.

Favourite dish
Whilst the savoury food was amazing, I actually loved the desserts so much! Personal favourite is the tiramisu- a great mix of Italian and Argentinain flavours.

Ambience
Perfect for a date night. It's got dim light, comfy chairs and nice deco with an Argentinian theme.
Whatdoyafeellike
Really good steak! We ordered the beef empanadas and provolone cheese to start with. Both delicious and full of flavour. For mains we ordered the beef short ribs, skirt steak, potatoes and broccolini as the sides. The steak was cooked perfectly and melts in your mouth. There was chimmichurri on the tables to serve with but the steak was good even on its own. Highly recommend.

Wonderful dinner last night at Palermo. We had booked for a birthday/date night back in June but the restaurant had to close for renovations. The team remembered that the original date was my Wifes birthday and provided belated birthday greetings as we entered and a little something special with dessert. The waiter chose a selection of courses for us and we were impressed with the quality of food and service.

Actually: 4.5

A sister restaurant of one my favourite restaurants (San Thelmo). It definitely did not disappoint. From the booking to dining, everything went relatively smoothly. The restaurant is very well set up, with extremely attentive staff. The food was fresh and delicious, even though it did take a bit of time to come out. We will definitely will be back!

Went here for our anniversary and had a very enjoyable night. My partner and I tend to order with our eyes and we were spoiled for choice. Although attentive the staff were alittle pre occupied but we werent too bothered. The food was fresh and delicious where the ambiance matched. Would recommend
Linda
Pros: the enpanadas especially the beef one was scrumptious. I was skeptical about having prunes with beef but the prunes are quite subtle and surprisingly goes well. Fried potatoes as a side were very crisp despite the smothered mascarpone sauce. Lamb rump was cooked to perfection.

Cons: the beer battered vegetables were a bit too oily. It would have been nice to be served with replaced clean eating plates after the small dishes, we had all the dishes on one plate. We were not asked how we would like our steak cooked also unlike most steak places I've been to. In comparison, San Telmo's in my opinion is slightly better.

3.5

The hip neighbourhood of Palermo boasts some of the best steak in the world (Don Julio recently entering the top 50) so it was only fitting they named the restaurant this. Palermo completes the holy trinity in the asado scene in Melbourne, Asado and San Telmo (not yet reviewed) which I've visited prior. The space is surprisingly vast and showcases both the bar as well as the impressive parrilla. Menu-wise it borrows from their partner restaurants their signature items and for good reason, they are crowd pleasers. Mixed in are some other outside European influences and unique items to give Palermo its own identity to separate it from their other restaurants.

For drinks we opt for cocktails, I got their Ponche Palermo which was really nice, a combination of gin, Campari and grapefruit gave it a pleasant fruity and tart flavour.

We start of with a small appetiser of sardine and eggplant on a thin yet crispy crostini. You get the oily characteristics of the fish together with salty olive and caper salsa. Nice little tapas to start off with.

We also get their kingfish crudo which is a non-traditional ceviche, what stood out most was the combination of the yellow peppers and lime dressing. Creamy and vibrant.

The fried provolone cheese was also an easy choice, stringy and crispy around the edges. Although predictably good we thought the cheese overwhelmed the seasonings of oregano and chilli, that of which I could not taste at all.

My friend had a dislike for black (blood) sausage and Ive been able to convert him on several occasions, this was no different as he ate most of it. Surprise, surprise!! Juicy, fatty and slighty irony it's one of the best we've had. A must get and would prefer it over their chorizo.

Their char-grilled veal heartbreads (sweetbreads) was equally delicious, prepared with some crushed hazelnut and dressed in aged balsamic and pickled garlic. It was firm yet not overly creamy which at times can be off-putting. Nice contrast in textures.

For steak we wanted guarantees on quality so we went for their 500g O'Connor's premium dry aged rib eye. We had this previously at Asado and thought it was one of the best steaks we've had in Melbourne, this is no different. Cooked perfectly medium rare, juicy, full of flavour and lightly seasoned. I sprinkled a bit more salt but my friends found it just right, a small portion of the steak needed to be trimmed off as it was inedible but I wouldn't fault it. Served with a side of salsa (probably not for the steak) and chimichurri for taste but I enjoyed it as is. We also had a side of smoked cauliflower which was true to its description, wonderfully smokey. Not the softest cauliflower but we still liked it and made for a great accompaniment.

For dessert we shared their tartufo which consisted of pistachio parfait, salted chocolate crumb and topped off with a rich dark chocolate and orange sauce. I love the slight bitterness and sweetness of the sauce as well as the crunchy elements. Their take on the tiramisu had dulce de leche, nice in small amounts but too much it becomes overly sweet. Perhaps it was back to back desserts (these were not tiny) and it simply was too much for me, dulce de leche itself is very sweet combined with extra chocolate and honeycomb. People with a sweet tooth may appreciate this more.

Throughout the night we wondered if we were going to be booted out before dessert as we were allocated a 2 hour time slot. It was decently paced although the food took longer than usual to arrive at our tables, we were happy to wait but not at the expense of dessert! We were reassured however we were able to (we have our priorities here). Another solid eatery by the team and perhaps a great segue into revisiting Argentina.

Had a wonderful time at Palermo. The staff were lovely, and the food was delicious. We had the eye fillet and the smoked cauliflower (which was amazing). For starters, would recommend the empanada and tortellini.

He service was outstanding. A handsome guy were exposing the menu in detail to us. And giving us recommendations for portion when we order gilled steaks.food was nice and the decoration and vibe of the place was nice.
Eat Good Melbourne
Boyfriend and I dined here on one of our very first dates so Palermo holds a very special place in my heart. At the time, Palermo was newly opened and we were lucky to get a table at the chef's counter without a reservation. The underground venue is beautifully designed and I love the booth tables. They also have private dining rooms on offer. I love sitting at counters where possible to watch the action unfold. I watched our oysters get freshly shucked and to this day, it remains one of the best oysters I've ever had. Sadly, they had sold out of the suckling pig but the ribs and steak amazing. Well seasoned and cooked to perfection. And the croquettes are a must try. So much flavour packed into this small crisp ball of goodness. I believe the menu has had slight alterations since but I will no doubt return.

Waiter was friendly and provided great service, atmosphere was nice too. We’ve been to San Telmo too so found that the food was very similar but nicer in $$, quality wasnt bad. Overall was a nice dinner out.
Frankly, this place disappointed me immensely. My expectation levels were heightened, but plummeted fairly quickly. The baked pasta dish is average, and couldn’t recommend. The empanadas were actually alright, and definitely worth ordering. The flank steak certainly wasn’t bad, but not memorable. Nice decor, good atmosphere, but overpriced, computer says no.

The experience we had in Palermo last night was great. We were lucky to be introduced to the amazing and very knowledgeable host/waiter/bartender that we forgot to ask for the name because everything was so seamless. Yes Wagyu Porterhouse MBS 9+ was the best steak we had in Melbourne because of his recommendation. Will definitely be back for more wine next time!

Went for special occasion with my partner, was really excited to try another one of San Telmo Family.
I founded a pretty expensive place, were customer service wasn't worth to pay that money.
Nothing to say about quality of food, always great , but no one dish really impressed me, remember i had good empanada and focaccia( bit funny because I didn’t choose this place for sure for a nice focaccia) .
San Telmo Family have better places than this one.
Antony Alderuccio
For the price the meat quality was very average, I had ribeye and was very disappointed I’m not sure if they were having a bad run with meat but it was tough as nails. I didn’t say anything I probably should’ve but for the price you pay it actually turned me off going back.

I went to Palermo with a friend after discovering it was part of the San Telmo/Asado family. 3 from 3 for me! Great dinner and atmosphere. I would highly recommend and will definitely be taking others to experience the place.
Wandering Ella
Practically the twin sister of San Telmo. We had a dinner here for 10 people, so we ordered the set menu. The patatas bravas were fantastic, and so were the fresh and tart ceviches! Our air dryed steaks were cooked at a perfect juicy medium.

I went to Palermo last Sunday night with my roommate who comes from China, we find it in google map, which is near from our apartment. we two arrived in Melbourne for one month and we have never gone to any Italian restaurants. so we use google map to search restaurants near our apartment. we choose this one because it has a high mark in the ranking lists.

The equipment and surrounding in the restaurant are fine. The waiter gave us a nice service. we ordered soup, stake, vegetable salad and Tiraamisu which was recommend by waiter. all of them were yummy and we all enjoy them. What a nice night!

I want to go there once again next time!
Hello. Imnikki
4.5

I'm a big fan of San Telmo so when my friend suggested Palermo for dinner, I was eager in anticipation for what was in store. The night started off with a jug of Sangria. Fruity, mellow and extremely easy to drink; if summer was a drink, this was it. A second jug please!

We were all too lazy to decide what to order so we asked our helpful and charming waiter, Juan, to decide for us. All he asked of us was to provide our dietary requirements, and off he went. The next hour or so, we were dazzled by his choices and can conclude that he completed his task with flying colours.

Some of the standout dishes include the beef empanadas, provoleta, all 3 cuts of the beef, and the simple but stunning spuds. The empanada crust was crisped with a tender texture, and was generously filled with smoky and flavoursome beef, garlic and prunes. The gooey provoleta impressed us with its piquant and bold flavours, as contrasted with the humble beef (rib eye, skirt and eye fillet) whom quietly allowed its natural meaty flavour to wow us. Potatoes may sound deceivingly ordinary but Palermo's version was polenta crusted, topped with herb aioli and fried to perfection (double fried perhaps?).

The rest of the dishes were tasty too, but a bit refinement here and there would definitely elevate them to a higher level of deliciousness. For example, the kingfish ceviche was seasoned very well, but the kingfish itself tasted rather fishy.

We were taken care of very well throughout the night, and fed very well too. I had no room for desserts, which was very unlike me. It didn't matter though, the impeccable service and delicious food made this a very sweet experience for me.
I Have A Reservation
Great ambiance, great food and great service. Can't go wrong with a steakhouse! Make sure you get the empanadas, croquetas, sausage, steak (of course) and alfajor! I heard that the flan is amazing but we didn't have any room for that. Will have to go back..

Becky
Highly recommend the beef tartare for starters and the wagyu ribeye MBS 9 as the main to share. Good service, environment, food. No complaints!
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
đŸ˜±Lizzie’s first impression: being a massive fan of San Telmo I knew I had to try this place - the staff were really nice but I was quickly disappointed with the food.

đŸ©Lizzie enjoyed: the empanadas were amazing - both the lamb special and the normal were very tasty and crispy.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: I ordered the hanger steak and it was horrendous - the cut was fatty and every bite had a bit of fat and tendon...I was really unhappy with it! The cauliflower was a bit bland and needed a little bit more Smokey flavour. The food took almost an hour to come out after our order and by then my stomach was completely empty by then.

đŸ„‡Lizzie rates overall: I was really disappointed and hope I can come back again for a different experience.

One of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne at the moment, have literally dined here over 15 times this year, the food is always on point, and service is always great and attentive! Keep up the great work guys!

Dinner for two on a Friday night and the vibe was great. It wasn’t a full house, however it was decently busy. We were sat at our tables and the waitress went through the menu with us. I have not dined at San Telmo, but I hear they are very similar, since this is just the sister restaurant.

Appetizer: Lamb empanada
This was listed under a separate menu that was attached to the main menu - I’m not 100% sure if this was a ‘todays special”. Nevertheless, the empanada is a must! The pastry was so crumbly yet the filing was so moist. Perfectly salted and packed full of flavour.

Entree: King Fish ceviche & beef tartare
The combination if the beef tartare and the horseradish cream .. delicious!! The flavours went so well together and the meat was definitely not gamey at all. Would recommend.
King fish was fresh, grapes worked really well and the dish was quite refreshing.

Main: skirt steak and eye fillet
Both were great, but the eye fillet was so so sooo tender, it almost melted in your mouth. Well seasoned and precut for you so you can enjoy your dinner.

Side: Carrots
Great, would recommend!!

Loved our dinner at Palermo. Our large group had the set menu and it was awesome. A great selection and plenty to round. Highlights included the kingfish ceviche, and surprisingly the iceberg lettuce salad and the polenta coated potatoes. Great wine list and service was top notch!

Ambient was alright to begin with, until the food came up.

I am someone who seldom criticizes, but for a 4.2 on Zomato, I’d have to say I was very disappointed with the food.
Ceviche wasn’t all that fresh, and seasoning was overwhelming and sour.
Then it was the Chorizo. I have had my fair shares of chorizos in my life but nothing this salty. I reckon it might be some mistakes or something so I called on the waiter for a feedback from our table that it is too salty. However, staff attitude was not very pleasing. His words, “ we have been making our food like this for a long time. We are not changing anything just because you think it is salty.”

Well I was nice enough to hand you a feedback because you may use it for future references, and I was not even attacking your business I just thought you should now, sir. đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

Not coming back, not recommending.
Having visited San Telmo in the past and loving it, we were excited to try Palermo, one of its sister restaurants. In short, we had an excellent meal. Service was informative and friendly, and the ambience was warm and inviting. We liked the open kitchen where you could see the chefs working as well as the fire pit in action.

The kingfish ceviche was tasty and refreshing but it was the beef tartare which blew our minds. The waiter kindly offered extra lavosh which we really appreciated. For mains we shared lamb shoulder from the fire pit and skirt steak prepared on the parilla grill. Both were tender and perfectly cooked. The side of carrots were delicious and the yogurt agave dressing of the salad was also quite nice. Dessert options looked great but in the end we were too full to have any.

Palermo is a fantastic restaurant that we would recommend, even if you have been to San Telmo or the other sister restaurants. Although there are some major similarities across the board, the quality of food is amazing. Also, having the opportunity to have meat from the fire pit is not something you’d easily find elsewhere. It is not often that we cannot fault a meal but on this occasion it really was flawless.

High quality service and second to none food. The staff were great at recommending food and wine. Would definitely recommend the sweet potato to have along side the steak
Olive Sundays
Palermo is an Argentinian Steakhouse in the city. You might notice some similarities from their sister restaurant San Telmo. The dĂ©cor is classy and has a modern-chic vibe. And what I love is the open kitchen layout where you can see the charcoal flaming and meats roasting over the asado fire pit. It kind of makes your mouth water before you’ve even seen the menu.
Mark Boyce
I came here to treat myself after work and get a taste of Argentinian food. I entered and left like I was very special; the host offered to take my jacket, the wait staff were meticulous in explain the menu and the food was well presented. I had a lovely dining experience which was well paced and not in any way rushed. I would definitely recommend Palermo to anyone, the service was great and the food tasted fantastic.
Winter
The atmosphere was very good, nice ambient and a lovely environment for a date. Staff was friendly and attentive. However the food was far below average for the price, the steak was not tender a bit chewy. And also had the flamed pork which was not flavorsome. The time the food took to come out was almost an hour! We were starving And it wasnt even that packed. Wouldnt come back again...
Đ›ĐžĐœŃĐž
Amazing dining experience, from the food to the service, atmosphere and drinks- everything was perfect! Standouts were the beef tartare, empanadas, humita, steaks with chimichurri and the quince dessert.
Sarah Schmitz
Catchup with friends was planned, we did not book a table we got a table as restaurant was not full when we arrived and not when we left. We have been rushed to order and one starter came out quick and than we waited very long time for the time we where given to eat so we could not have dessert anymore we asked and got told table is booked after us be quick, and than we got the bill brought to the table, we felt very hurried, I rather get told sorry we have no space - that would have been ok as their are in close proximity a lot of nice places. It was very pricey for the evening we had.

Palmero honestly took my breath away. The service there was absolutely divine with our waiter introducing us to the menu and giving us background to where the food came from and how it’s cooked. He was quite a character, definitely added to our night!

As the food started coming out, we were starting to feel spoilt. The kingfish cerviche was the first to set our sights and the flavours kept our buds tingling! However what definitely stole the show, not only in regards to starters, but the whole night in general was the polenta and beef cheeks! The cheeks were so tender and everything complimented each other so well!

For the mains we decided to go for the pork, eye fillet and dry aged rib eye and honestly, it did not go wrong. The meat was so well cooked and juicy and well salted! Accompanied with their carrots and sweet potato sides, which were also just so delicious!

I have nothing more to say other than thank you for blessing our taste buds, it was definitely a night to remember!

Absolutely fantastic visit to Palermo on a Friday night. I recommend booking in as they do get very busy, we arrived at 8:15 and the restaurant was still packed. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable, trusted him heaps. My partner and I ordered the Beef Empanada, the cured Meat plate, chorizo, the burnt carrots, the Papas (potatoes), and of course the dry aged rib eye and juicy eye fillet.
Everything was perfection, we enjoyed every bite however be careful about how much you order because we couldn’t finish the potatoes no matter how hard we tried, we didn’t have room for dessert either which was disappointing as I wanted to try their famous Flan.
Definitely keen to come back again, overall it was a wonderful experience, thanks so much Palermo for a lovely and delicious dinner!

TT and I wanted to try Palermo because of its great reviews, but sadly we left disappointed. It’s probably a 2.5 ⭐ but I won’t give it a 3 Star. First of all, the place isn’t packed when we arrived nor was it full when we left, yet we got seated right next to another table, and someone else got seated next to us. A few people complained and got seated elsewhere but seriously, there is no need to pack us like sardines.

We ordered the cured meat. It came with pickles, bread that’s dotted with potatoes and three variety of meat. It was yummy. 4/5 yummy. So what went wrong?

The suckling pig croquette went wrong. Oozing with fat, it was not tasty at all. Thank goodness we only ordered one to share.

The beef ribs went wrong. It was seriously chewy- we expected melt in your mouth goodness.

The salad and octopus are both redeeming factors but even those are very salty in places.

I don’t be coming back any time soon.
Palermo has a luxurious ambiance, you feel instantly spoilt. Thoroughly enjoyed the following entrees: Empanadas, Kingfish Ceviche & Suckling Pig Croquettes. However, the mains were not as impressive. Chicken was quite ordinary & Beef was tough like leather, not enjoyable at all. 3.5/5
Samantha Riely
The food is amazing however if your ordering from the grill your In for a lengthy wait but it is worth it! Service is a little slow on drink orders we would of drank more had we been able to get the staff near the tables they seem to not engage with customers more than ordering and food delivery.
Willtravelforfood17
We ordered the flank steak and the striploin. Both steaks arrived beautiful and medium rare. The steaks were tender and flavourful and beautifully dry aged. We also ordered a side of carrots and the potatoes. The carrots were soft and sweet and the potatoes were crispy and flavourful. The service was good but the only letdown was the food took 45 minutes to be served. It was worth the wait though!

I came here for my birthday on Saturday night with my boyfriend. I just want to say every single one of our dishes were absolutely delicious! We will definitely be returning. Wish I took some photos but we were too busy enjoying our food!

3.5/5
Overall this was a pretty good experience but not something that made me want to return in a hurry. Had the dining room booked with a set menu which gave us a sample of everything. The standouts were the steak and chorizo which were both very tasty! The white fish ceviche, octopus and beef empanadas were all ok but not top notch. Service was friendly and fine. Not as good as there other restaurant San telmo which is amazing!

Having dined at San Telmo before, I was eager to check out Palermo when catching up with friends.
Service from the team was friendly and prompt, but the dining area is so noisy that it does make it hard to catch up with your friends, even when it’s just a group of 6.

We had a wide range of dishes to share- most of which were delicious and great to try (sides and entrees were great), but we were really disappointed with the portion sizes (especially for the meat- which is why you go to Argentinian restaurants!); so even though we spent about $75 pp, we still felt like a cheeky nip into Maccas afterwards to satisfy our stomachs.

I’m a cheese lover so of course I ordered the Provoleta. I highly recommend it ! Enough for 2 to share . The meat was well cooked and soooo tender. The flan was so silky and sweet. A must try dessert! As it was a Friday night , the patrons inside the restaurant were very loud so i had to raise my voice when talking to my friend and waiter (no fault on the staff ). I would have enjoyed the dining experience more if it was in a quieter setting . Good to see the chefs in action from my table .

Everything was very good but not mind blowingly exceptional. The octopus wasn't available which was a big let down. Suckling pig and strip lion were absolutely delicious. Service was good but the waitress needed to develop her knowledge on the cuts of meat, diet and wine list. For the price, this is bog standard information you expect to know.

We went for a function, so perhaps it's different for your average diner, but this place is amazing. Great food, great service, and so cosy and welcoming. Loved it.

Brilliant! Having been to San Telmo I was expecting a similar deal at Palermo, even the neon sign is identical. Spacious and a great fitout. Food choices extensive and quality bar none. Had eye fillet for main acompanied with carrots and potatoes, the potatoes definitely the best I have ever had at a restaurant. Steak was on par with Rockpool. Service was impressive and will definitely be back. Enjoyed it much more than San Telmo. Fits in well on Lt Bourke St.

This was a fantastic meal. The service was exceptional from the very start. I didn’t have an opportunity to take pictures but the kingfish ceviche was brilliant. All the food was lovely but that was my favourite. For a good mix of starters, suckling pig a couple of ciders and bottle of wine $175

Top resturant this. probably preferred this too San Telmo. we had the special pork to start & followed up with the lamb rump & hanger steak accompanied with fried potatoes & broccolini which was to die for. great staff aswell & nice wine selection to match your meal
My daughter and I had a delightful experience at Palermo. Surprised at how sparsely populated the room was. However the service and food were fabulous. The surprises were the carrot salad which was recommended by staff and the pineapple dessert.
If you enjoy great food served impeccably then can’t go past this place.

Been here twice including Valentine's day with the missus. Great food and vibe. Recommend the croquetas, ojo de bife, broccolini side, zanahorias side and flan. The calamar was pretty good too. The heartbread and prawn specials were nice but they do change.

Also had the asado lamb.. this one fell a bit flat. Could just bbq my own meat. I'd choose the non chargrilled meats for mains.

Their wines by the glass are decent, south american options instead of the usual aussie wine choices.

One thing I found a bit confronting was the big-ass gratuity field on the receipt. Feels quite intimidating as the font size is alot bigger than the items ordered. Kind of a "tip me" in your face. This is where I choose not to give it 4.5 or 5.

It’s all about the meat. Argentinian restaurant so if you are after the big veggie dinner you’d better look elsewhere. Five of us in a friendly booth, friendly waitress passes us the menus and we order. Empanadas to begin with accompanied with chimichuri and salsa-salty mini pastries. A chorizo to share and then the main event -big hunka beef ribeye đŸ„© on the bone, salad leaves and potatoes on the side. Best steak I’ve had in Melbourne. All at table were blown away-cooked on wood coals makes for a spectacular carnivorous event.

We had birthday dinner booked for 8 guests.
As we entered, there was a small line at the front desk so we waited for assistance. A wait staff approached us and asked if she could help. I told her we have a booking under “so and so”, she then advised us that we have to wait to be seated. Ummm.. pretty sure we were waiting already, but thanks for nothing? The service throughout the night was like a mixed bag of jelly beans, sometimes you get the yummy red ones & every now and then you get the black ones that no-one wants. For one of the courses, we were served 1 chorizo & 1 blood sausage, cut into 6 pieces for 8 guests. That made a lot of sense.. no really it does. After we queried whether that was meant to be for the whole table they proceeded to say oh sorry we’ll bring out the rest of the sausages.. 20 minutes later. So if we didn’t query we would have had to share 2 sausages for 8 guests? Overall food was below average, ceviche wasn’t citrusy, meat was chewy, their salsa & chimichurri made the meal bearable. To top off such an experience, they surprised us (not the good kind of surprise either) with a 5% service charge? They didn’t even mention it when we were paying.
AAA
Had a dinner for 8. Set menu (forced for large groups). Chose $80/pp menu. Only enjoyable dish was the focaccia. Everything else was sub standard and really needed the salsa or chimichurri to bring it up. We all agreed it was a mediocre menu. Service wasn’t bad but watch out cuz you’ll be paying for it! “Service charge 5%” is put on the bill (which one of us only noticed now, days after our dinner as we’re looking at the bill to transf her our share of the meal). So ended up paying a forced tip of $50 (are we in America now?!). The waitress failed to point out the surcharge so we actually also gave a cash tip. I’m told by a friend who is in the hospitality industry that when restaurants add a service charge that it should be pointed out at the point of giving the bill so that we know not to tip extra ( he went to palermo on a separate occasion and said he didn’t enjoy the food either). none of us will be going back.

Have been here several times now, and have never been disappointed. Palermo has converted me on skirt steak, and ordering a full rib eye is a must have experience. I'm a big fan of the fugazzeta, but it would make a much better complimentary appetiser than standalone entree. Service speed can vary depending on how busy they are, and the meat can't be hurried. All the desserts are excellent, and having watched the staff making them I can confidently say that they're true artists. The Ambrosia is the perfect dessert to bookend a heavy meal.

Firstly, the service here was so friendly, it was a big positive as soon as we entered. They were also helpful with the menu, and drinks. The food itself was delicious, the suckling pigs croquette was just delicious, so full of flavor. I also really liked the grilled provolone, presented a bit like saganaki. The ceviche was probably my fav!! For mains I absolutely loved the vacio steak, so tender and cooked to perfection. Although you’re not going to go wrong with any of the meats here. I also loved the carrots side dish, with the eggplant purĂ©e. And for dessert, I couldn’t go past the flan, so creamy and rich. All in all, a great feed! A bit on the exxy side, but the meats do it justice.

Thoroughly enjoyed dinner at Palermo. Very similar in style to its sister restaurant, San Telmo, Palermo has a Argentinian inspired menu with a large focus on meat. Between two of us we shared the duckfish ceviche, the fried cheese and the pulled pork croquettes. The croquettes in particular were fantastic. Then for main we went for the lamb rump and a side of carrots. The lamb was delicious and the carrots were a unique take on a common side dish.

Came here a few days ago for dinner, and loved every bit of it. The service we received was brilliant, mainly due to the recommendations our waitress gave us (we had never had Argentine food before) and her great personality. The food was brilliant, especially the beef tartare and the eye fillet steak which was so tender. Will be returning!

In the same spirit and from the stable of San Telmo and Pastuso, Palermo was able to still surprise me with Argentinian dishes which I haven't had yet. The salmon was charred and smoky, yet still delicate and succulent; the lamb was so soft and juicy it made me question the Greek's supremacy in its preparation; whilst the chicken was just as they serve it at San Telmo - flawlessly cooked. The icing on the cake tho was the flan and the chocolate mousse, which were both devine. The food matched with smart service, all at a decent value pricing, makes me want to book a ticket to Buenos Aires.

Terribly disappointing. Had very high hopes due it’s tremendous sister restaurants but this misses the mark in almost every way I think.food took forever to come out.. first entree was around 35 minutes and it didn’t get any quicker. Tables are crammed in they may as well just do one big table and have communal dining. Lighting is appalling I had to use the light on my camera to see the food. staff were nice but found they prioritised resetting tables at the end of the night over clearing food which had been sitting there. Food was a let down... pork croquettes average, fried cheese and the cuttlefish were good but the suckling pig and the lamb we got for main were average again. Little flavour and fatty lamb. Fairly expensive overall too. Restaurant will be busy with people checking it out thanks to San Telmo and Pastuso but don’t imagine anyone being a repeat guest.

Delicious food, great service and some nice ambience. Would definitely recommend the fried broccoli - not a fan usually but I gulped these down in a second.

What a great experience all round.

First off - Josh, our waiter, what an absolute gem. Every recommendation was excellent, service was highly professional but not remotely awkward. He is definitely one to be kept

Food was excellent - cheese empanadas, suckling pig croquette all fantastic. The lamb from the pit was the nicest lamb I've ever eaten and I love my meat.

Fit out is beautiful and sleek.

For anyone that is squeamish about seeing whole pigs being smoked and cooked over a pit, probably not the place for you. But then again, if you were squeamish about that you're probably Vegan...so what are you doing complaining in an Argentinian steak house?
Hangry Horace
Food was delicious and well executed. There was a little wait in between courses but we didn't mind it. We ordered the corn empanada, white fish ceviche and suckling pig croquettes to start. I thoroughly enjoyed the empanada as it was full flavoured and creamy. We also ordered the grilled calamari and the dry aged bone in striploin which was perfectly cooked and had a nice char. The caramel flan was also a nice end to the meal. Service was friendly and attentive.
The City Lane
Named after the funky Buenos Aires suburb, which in turn was named after Saint Benedict of Palermo, Sicily, Palermo Melbourne sets out to capture the best of Argentinean food, along with its Italian, and of course Spanish, influences.

Don’t get the asado it’s crap... not even on a bbq. Looked like it was put in the oven. Too expensive and staff were rude. They asked if I wanted to leave a tip and I said no, they asked me again rudely, like how can you not leave one?? Lol really??

Absolutely top notch. Went there and layed it on thick with a couple of the raw dishes followed by meat meat meat. Loved the way the kitchen was open and it was operating so calmly. The food came out looking stunning and was swiftly delivered by passionate staff. The raw white fish dish was the highlight of the starters as well as the tartare. The mains were all good but the red meat was pretty hard to top. Malbec wine was delish. Welcome back to Melbourne chef Oliver Gould! Get there.

Ate at Palermo a few days ago with a group of friends (about 8 of us), it was faultless and amazing. Great service and spectacular food. Not being an expert in the cuisine we asked the wait staff to order for us. Following a few simple questions from them on food styles we liked as well as any dietary requirements the food came (and just kept coming). The flavors were wonderful, everything was beautifully cooked and presented as well as great range of South American wines (i particularly enjoyed a refreshing Pinot Grigio style white from Argentina that the waiter recommended). We all "waddled" out of there a few hours later raving about the place.
We'll all definitely be going back to Palermo.
Hunch

Really enjoyed our meal, the skirt steak was delicious and tender. All dishes perfect for sharing. We sat at the kitchen bar and watched the charcoal grill. Definitely will have to go back and try the other cuts of meat!

Food and ambience were generally good but it took over an hour for our ribs and steak to arrive. Our server was very friendly and attentive though. My fave dishes were the fried broccoli and the short ribs.
