Review Caffe E Torta - Melbourne

Dr Eve's Health Emporium
Great place to pop by for a great lunch or cappuccino with great desserts, biscuits and cakes. I love the freshly squeezed juices made for you instantly. The fresh produce and delicious food explains, why this place is always packed up and so popular. If you need a healthy boost during your busy shopping in the City, that's the place that will offer you the needed "pick me up" special treat.

Was out and about in Melbourne and had some time to pass so was looking to sit down for a coffee, came across this place. It presented really well and looked great. That’s where the good ended. I made my way in and was met with a blank look on the girls face behind the counter. She asked how could she help so I said I was after a cappuccino and an orange juice. The blank look continued and she looked to a colleague for help. The colleague asked what I was after do I repeated my order. At this point a guy came up to me and asked what I was after. For the third time I repeated myself and was told to follow him back outside and to sign in. I said I wasn’t from Victoria and didn’t see the sign (which wasn’t at the first entry door, it was at a second entry up the arcade a little bit) and said no one inside told me, His response was quite abrupt when he said “well I’m telling you”. That was it for me so I responded with “and I will tell you, we are off elsewhere”. Unfortunately this male was a bit rude so didn’t really deserve our order”. As I left I couldn’t quite hear what he said to a group in the corner but it was quite obvious it wasn’t nice when they looked in my and my 10 year old daughters direction and laughed quite loud. We had the last laugh though when we went to the arcade opposite and had a great breakfast and drink and were met with positivity and happiness. 2 stars only for the decor of the cafe. If you are in Melbourne you have plenty of other options. We enjoyed a great weekend in Melbourne where everyone was happy and friendly, except here.

Food was fresh and delicious, staff were friendly and very professional and the atmosphere was beautiful. Perfect breakfast to end the weekend, i only have photos of half eaten food because we couldn't wait to try it!

Good quality cakes and coffee, one very friendly waitress and one who clearly doesn't want to be there. You should get rid of the unfriendly waitress... it's very bad for business having staff like that.

I like the cafe so much! It cheers me up, and super nice staff! And I enjoyed the food🥰

Situated in a convenient location. They have a decent selection of pastries. Went with my 10 yr old for brunch. Coffee 4/5, Fresh Juice 5/5. The food was OK 3/5 but serving size small and the bread toasted hard and difficult to bite.

Long-time favourite, on an irregular basis. Today had the $27.50 lunch special of Tagliatelle Al Ragu and glass of wine. Excellent dish, displaying a hint of nutmeg in the ragu, which is unusual and confirmed by the chef (I asked), and which lifts the overall taste experience. Recommended. I had a house red wine, which seemed to be a Shiraz Merlot, quite yummy (I'm happy to try whatever comes). I also had a refreshing iced coffee. I sat in the Arcade and had interesting conversation with my American neighbour. Nice to do normal things like this again post-double vaxxed!

Great coffee, quaint and great atmosphere. Awesome toasted sandwiches

We have been in Melbourne for 5 days, and we luckily found this little treasure on day one. It was worth a walk every morning for a coffee fix, for some of the best coffee I have tasted! Would highly recommend that you drop in an experience Caffe E Torta as part of your'Melbourne experience!'

Best coffee ever! Not sure if it was the coffee or the batista or a mixture of both but iv never had a coffee as amazing as this one. Staff and food was spectacular. Could not recommended highly enough.
Frederika Bastecky
Exceptional! Delicious, high quality food, wonderful service - even on boxing day! Really lovely, hands on owner which is, I am sure, why it is successful! We will definitely be coming back :)

The food was great but the service was terrible. I think it was the owner who served us. She did not speak to her staff very nicely very impacient with everyone don't think she could handle the pressure.
Fiona Gordon
Went to Melbourne for the tennis and ate breakfast here every morning. Tastiest breakfast ever, poached eggs bliss and amazing sourdough!

Coffee and vanilla slice Sunday 21st May around 4:30pm. The coffees and vanilla slice were good. However the attitude of the waitress - rude; thought she was being smart when, in fact, she came across as being a rather ignorant individual. This experience left us a somewhat sour aftertaste and we would certainly not recommend this cafe.

I have been coming to this great restaurant for years and years and have never been disappointed. Great food, very good coffee and a terrific atmosphere in such a small environment.

What a great find had my sister and brother in law from the uk perftect place for lunch food was fanatic great service a joy to go there
Vanna Lau
Coffee, food and atmosphere was really good. Customer service was really poor, the waitress was off hand and acted as though she didn't want to be there or even manage a little smile. Her attitude was astounding ... Get a job you enjoy

This place is a gem! Coffee is always great, love the cakes and pastries especially the almond croissant which is now my personal favourite. Judge for yourself, you wont be disappointed.

Got seated with menus.. then no one returned for 20 mins.. place wasn't even that busy.. so many better cafes in near by laneways

Such authentic food taken from Greek and Italian influences, loved it! Definitely a new lunch spot when I hit the shops :)

We're from Sydney and from the myriad of cafes in Melbourne we were so lucky to find Caffe e Torta! Amazing coffee, free range produce and that warm Mediterranean hospitality. We'll def be back next time we're in town.

This place rocks and the main reason I come to Melbourne! Absolutely love the food and coffee. Friendly staff are expeditious with serving your every need! Highly recommended! Try the beef clasico you will not be disappointed!!

This hidden cafe in block arcade has a really nice ambiance and amazing smell of coffee and baked goods. The service has been pretty good the few times I visited.<br/><br/>My sis had their flat white and she absolutely loved it, though I didn't try it.<br/><br/>Went back couple times and got the soy chai latte which is decent tho the chai wasnt as strong as I'd like.<br/><br/>Had the decaf soy cappuccino too and it was quite nice, was a tad bit sour tasting. agian its decaf so i cnt really say but i quite enjoyed it still.<br/><br/>iced mocha here is pretty sweet though (came with ice cream), with more choc taste than coffee, while iced choco was a great drink.<br/><br/>Overall we love the vibe of the place as it was really chill<br/><br/>( follow for more!✨)<br/><br/>xx,joelle.

I often dine solo and my pet hate is being ignored, sat at the bar, wasnt asked if i wanted menu or a drink to start, then a couple came sat behind me, they wete served straight away, then another group on the other side of me, both given menus while still nothing for me, umm Helooooo!!!!!<br/>This isnt the first time at this place, so im not bothering again, surprised their profile says knowm for attentive service.<br/>How's the food? Wouldn't know

I had their beef ragu pasta for lunch on a weekday. It was authentic and delicious - the sauce was rich and tomatoey and the pasta was silky and al dente. Lots of people were queuing to have lunch there.

This place is located at the little Collins st entrance of the royal arcade.. it is always packed when I passed by.. I tried the ice chocolate and it was pretty decent.. it wasn’t too sweet and was nice and milky.. customer service here was pretty good.. and the wait staff were very friendly..<br/>I would definitely come back to try some of their other foods & drinks..

Lovely European feel to this cafe. Really good coffee. We enjoyed a grilled chicken bliss toastie which was delicious and a golden frittata that was just as good.

I like your coffee. Sometimes I often go there to buy take away coffee. These days one lady work at barista. She is really really rude. I was really happy with previous barista guy. He was really kind and friendly. Today I asked some question about ice coffee size. She answer really rude way. She almost shout to me ‘we have only one size’ . And waiter came to me try to explain about they change take away cup. She can explain like him. But she didn’t. <br/>But it’s not first time. She always rude and angry. What’s wrong with you? I’m not gonna go to there anymore before they change barista. Thank you for your great service .

Omg!!!! I love it’s coffee!!! <br/><br/>Not sour and watery at all. Filled with the aroma and richness of the coffee beans ~ inside seatings and outside tables are available, and lovely service as well. <br/><br/>Cute latte arts which I seldom seen in Melbourne(lol why normally there is no latte art for flat whites in Melbourne?) <br/><br/>The only drawback probably is the price ( the most expensive large flat white with almond milk I have ever tried lol: $5.8) normally is from 4.5-5 hhhh but since the quality is okay~ so never mind the price then ~~

We have enjoyed this cafe frequently (ie almost every Saturday for ages). Unfortunately yesterday, with no warning or notification they decided to levy an additional 10% surcharge for weekends from now on. <br/>No notification on seating or ordering, just at the till. Very rude as well as gouging. Penalty rates for staff drop while the business hikes the prices.<br/>Left a sour taste and we won’t be back, as we asked the server to pass on to management.

I loved the opera cake and I had pasta in my previous visit. I loved both of them. The staff is polite too. Love the ambience. The manger was pretty great too. Will visit this place again.

Came across this cafe just by chance while hunting for a reasonable latte and a place that doesn’t use disposable cups for sit down coffees. <br/><br/>Had a soy latte and a little pistachio & cherry pastry. The latte came at just the right temperature and kept it to the last sip due to the heavy cup it came in (instead of the usual glass). The aroma and finish of it promised , and delivered, a delicious old school coffee hit : Rich, smooth and with just the perfect bitterness. The pastry was a dainty three bites - fresh pistachios, aromatic and juicy cherry, toothsome marzipan centre - and was full of flavour and texture with perfectly balanced sweetness (to me). <br/><br/>I guess I’ve visited Brunetti’s a dozen times, between the city and Carlton branches, but feel an odd one out among family and friends who love going there for a coffee and a sweet. All I know is I’ve tried and just don’t enjoy Brunetti’s lattes and sweets - somehow they taste bland and mass produced (??). Well today at this cafe, I feel I’ve tasted what Brunetti’s is trying to be. Hope to return !

Great coffee, but BAD service!!!!!!!! NO RESPECT, NO SERVICE AT ALL!!!! I came here twice but nothing changed!! You THREW our food on the table!! And blame us for no smile while paying the bills? Seriously, why do you feel having the right to ask for customers’ smile while serving with no respect!!! Shame on you!!! That’s so rude!!! Totally ruined our weekend!!!

The mocha is good, but not as good as last time. I wish to rate 4 here, by sorry, poor customer experience! Excuse me, could you guys just take a look in the corner of your restaurant? It is your part! Could you also respect the time to everyone?! Being wait 15 mins for waffle, we asked if it had made out to cancel it. Then servant went to check for another 10mins. Simply just packed for us. When we checked, you seriously ask us to smile undertook your faces?I know it is busy afternoon, I think everybody deserves an equal treat. Especially, the lady with short hair, you have to be trained!
Gee
Below average at best. So many times I’ve walked past and loved the look and charm of the place - seats in the window and a very Euro feel about the place. Had the ham and mushroom melt toasted sandwich and it was dismal! Soggy mushrooms, a dash of mustard and some wilted lettuce - I couldn’t believe it! Staff could do with some improvement too. Never again.

Had lunch here last week the food was great, good wine selection to pair up with my meal. Desert was a delicious cake & I have to say one of the best coffees in the city.  In regard to service I could not fault them. Over all a fantastic lunch.
Lize
I often go here because I enjoy the ambiance of the cafe and the coffee is nice however 99% of the time service is impolite and often that service is worst from the people who run the place.
Byron's Vanilla Slice Blog
These cakes came as a result of an opportunist walk through the laneways en route to the tram stop on Elizabeth Street. Although the Italian restaurant aren’t known for their cakes, they do offer an array of sweets to temp passers by like me. At a whopping $11.70 for just the vanilla slice and the raspberry macaron, I didn’t feel too cheeky asking for a free iced coffee. To my surprise I actually got it too! - a result of a wrong order sent back and being in the right place at the right time. Disappointingly, the vanilla slice wasn’t fresh, you could see some slight discolouration of the custard upon close inspection and the flaccid and somewhat lifeless pastry did not ooze freshly baked. The whole thing was very average, and not worthy of the hefty price tag. Mrs B thoroughly enjoyed her raspberry cream macaron and I must admit a free iced coffee on a 30 degree day was a bonus. Not all bad bad.

Called in to this beautiful cafe in Little Collins. The cafe looks like it’s 100 years old inside, it was all Art Deco features, like stepping back in time, just lovely. <br/><br/>Now the coffee was rich and full flavoured w a good temp, and a nice flavour. The price was standard and this place is worth checking out, just for the experience. <br/><br/>Happy hump day! Yay hahahaha

Went to this cafe years ago and the service and food was terrible. 2nd January most cafes around were closed and I just needed toast so thought to give it another go; just because what could go wrong with a toast. <br/>So I order sourdough toast with some butter and was shocked to find it was $7.50 (it is about $4 at all other cafes in close proximity). I walk out with the toast and find that it wasn't even buttered and they had thrown a cold individually packed butter in the box, which by the time I realized bread was too cold to apply the butter. For $7.50 the least I could expect was for the staff to butter my toast. The toast was hard as wood and not edible at all. Had to throw it out. If they cannot even get a toast right, won't trust them with any other meal.

Classic Italian coffee and cake. They coffee is not hipster Melbourne coffee its old school muddy a little bitter glorious Italian style going back to the origins of Melbourne coffee culture. The decor, atmosphere and simple offering is what makes this place good.A

Pleasantly surprised with this random business meeting breakfast. Had the poached eggs and avo with toast and cap. Very good and would definitely go back. Service was superb and overall great experience.

A little pricy for the basic brunch menu options on offer , but the food was fresh and served quickly. The cabinet selection of donuts and sticky buns looks worth trying!

I walked in and they told me it's table service so find a table when I was ready. I wanted some peace and quiet so I sat in this corner with 2 tables but just sat at the one table. I was told to move because this place is reserved for 4 people 😦who tells a customer to move?? Furthermore, I ordered a croissant and coffee and I was given just a knife and no fork. I ate he croissant with my hands anyway but if you're going to just give me a knife then this is completely useless. Also the owner was chatting away to some customers and did not bother to treat me in a like manner. A woman sat next to me and the owner immediately asked her if she wanted water. I did not receive this service. First impressions of this cafe is not great. Also very expensive....$11 for croissant and coffee? It's $7 in Brunetti for a large danish and coffee. Sorely disappointed and will never come here again due to their attitude.

Don't waste your money in this terrible and dodgy cafe. Meal sizes are small and very poor quality, not to mention they over charged the customers. My wife ordered a cappuccino and I ordered a Latte and eggs and ham breakfast. Then, I realised they used the same cappuccino milk froth for my Latte. My latte basically had a coffee shot and rest was milk froth. After the coffee, me and my wife had a conversation with the owner and he was rude and very disrespectful. He asked us to leave because he didn't want other people to hear this. And then a staff gave us a foreign coin and said ''it will bring you luck'' then she laughed with other staffs. Me and my wife was very shock and left with sadness and disappointment. <br/>

Really nice cake selection, coffee is nice and the tea comes in a silk bag. The food looked good but I was just doing a cake. Prices are reasonable. Very chic environment, good efficient staff. No messing about. Very tight seating arrangements.

Popped in for coffee and dessert on Friday night and asked myself why have I never ventured here before? Housed in the beautiful Block Arcade its like a different lovely little world inside and very European in its ambiance and decor. It's certainly cosy with small circular tables closely packed together (oh so Parisian) but it's all part of the atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and provide excellent service too, a coffee was placed in front of my friend that spilled and as I was sitting there pretty unimpressed it was swiftly removed and replaced with a new one without anyone saying anything. I was delighted to learn the restaurant also owns the delicious macaron concession in the Arcade so decided on the giant macaron for one of the desserts, as well as a brownie and lemon meringue tart to share between the three of us (variety is the splice of life). While they all looked visually appealing they just missed the mark for me. Still tasty but the tart needed more of the citrus layer, the brownie wasn't fudgy enough and the macaron as a concept needed some filling that wasn't just piped cream and a few raspberries. Another friend enjoyed her waffle though and I did love the setting so would certainly keep it in mind for a lunch option

Well this cafe is cute. It could well be one planted from Rome or Milan.<br/><br/>The cakes look amazing and the coffee is nice. The staff are super friendly:)

I had my lunch here today. It was very very delicious.<br/>However, the reason that i gave you 3.0 out of 5 is that all staffs were very nice but an old lady (someone called her a manager) served me the food was very rude. I am not a big fan of someone who is serving a dish in a cafe calling me 'hey' instead of ' excuse me'. She just called me hey and put the dish on the table. I tried to be nice so i said thank you but she just ignored it and just walked away. i really want to come back i cannot deny the place and the food are great, but i think she needs to be more polite when she is talking to people.

Popped in here for lunch .... good service. Ordered a chicken salad & smoked salmon bruschetta .... we were hungry so it was ok... plenty of salmon but when it also said cucumber 3 quarter pieces isn't much as is 3 beans in the salad! We didn't get the water we asked for but it hit the hunger spot for now.

A quaint little place in a busy downtown arcade, Caffé E Torta is a great place for intimate conversations with friends or family.<br/><br/>Imagine our surprise when soon after our heavy lunch our guides to Melbourne decided to take us out for coffee at this great place nearby. Caffé E Torta looks small, and indeed it isn't very big, but it was almost full of people on that Friday afternoon, and we had to wait to get seated, which kind of builds up the suspense on what to expect.<br/><br/>Good drinks, good service (staff was awesome considering we were a big group and hoped to be seated together), at okay prices. <br/><br/>Would imagine that this place is an excellent location for catching up with friends, relaxing, or simply people-watching.<br/><br/>

I come here every now n then for a coffee during the working week - its decent coffee, great location, but made the mistake of eating here again as my previous time was preety poor.<br/><br/>I got an omelet.... Fat thick, dry, rock hard omelette that looked like a slab of cake from a buffet. The lettuce that it came with was brown and wilted.... Preety disgusting.. Im really surprised this was served.<br/><br/>I pulled it apart a little and was trying to get past my first mouthfull as i was starving, but gave up..it was hard to get down. <br/><br/>I payed and left. While i was paying, the man there saw we didn't touch the food. He didnt ask, charged us anyways.<br/><br/>I wont eat here again. Place would be better off sticking to coffee and cake. The food here really struggles...shame.<br/><br/>

I do not usually make complaints, one thing I have to say about this place is their bad services. Food was a bit overpriced but given the location I could take it. I have been to this place before and the customer service was great. This is a very rare unpleasant service experience I ever get. No matter how great how fresh their food are, I can not take that attitude. Sorry, I do not recommend you to come here if you want nice decent services.

We went for a quick drink. We ordered a chocolate milkshake and a chai tea latte. The drinks were amazing. Nice and creamy. Very tasty too. The staff were friendly and attentive. Our drinks didn't take too long to be served either. Cute little coffee shop in CBD. I will definitely go back and recommend it to anyone.

had the pleasure of having a splendid cappuccino in this charming little corner cafe of the royal arcade. the vintage decor with the vespa outside and the picture frames by the counter really adds to its charm. wooden interior and fixtures made it nice and cozy. staff were friendly and I loved the managers enthusiasm at 9 in the morning! he was very attentive and accommodating and his British accent just added more charm to this cafe. would definitely return for the sweets!
Nick Komo
Love the coffee here. Probably best coffee you will find around cbd. Try taking a takeaway coffee into work. The whole office will smell the coffee 😉.<br/>Definitely best croissants too!
Paula Dean
Came here with a friend for a coffee and I must say coffee was good and staff were friendly, overall a pleasant experience. Will try it again next time I'm in the area!
Klara
Tried two dishes and both were very tasty. <br/>First being the classic avocado and eggs on grilled sourdough. The second is the ham and cheese sandwich. I love how crispy their bread is. And how great the simple dishes taste. <br/><br/>Haven't tried their coffee, but I personally think the macaroon is too sweet. <br/><br/>Located in the corner of an arcade, it's a little get away by sitting here, enjoying the delicious food and watching people passing by. Highly recommend:)

Went here with a friend as she goes to this cafe often for lunch. We got there at around 1:30pm. We both ordered the Chicken Bliss sandwich and had lattes. The coffee is great here and the food is too however service was lacking - we wanted to order something sweet after we finished our sandwiches and asked if we could have another look at the menu, about 10 minutes pass and still no menu. We then asked the waiter again and he returned about 5-10 minutes later with the menu's. Normally this would not be an issue but we were on lunch break and usually the service here is very quick. We ended up sharing the lemon meringue tart which was delicious. Also, the location is very nice. I will definitely remember this place and come back.
Ta.be.tabi
By the time I was very cosily seated (the round tables are tightly lined up next to each other which had to be pulled out to get to the couch side) it was too late to leave when I properly read the menu and saw that the cafe only served eggs up to 11:30am. Nothing else looked appealing to me so I enquired about today’s special which was Penne with slow-cooked Ragu sauce. I gathered it was what the customer next to me must be having, and it look delicious so I ordered one for myself too. I normally don’t order pricier pasta dishes because my taste in Italian dishes is quite simple.

A random cafe I had picked to have a sit after shopping. And I didn't expect that I kept return to this cafe each time I'm visiting Melb. Crossaints are to die for. Coffee is great. Service is prompt. Staffs are friendly. It is amazing how fast your food arrived in front of u and then I turned around and check out the kitchen and found an army in the kitchen... Appreciate. Applause. Great job.

Lovely place, excellent service. Very cosy and good coffee. Located in one of the nicest parts of melbourne on the corner of an arcade. Traditional feel.

If you like Italian food and you're in the CBD, this place is for you. Awesome breakfast menu and lunch. Highly recommend the pasta, fresh and delicious. The service was friendly and very attentive. Love the Italian coffee, had the espresso coffee, it was strong and full of flavour.variety of Italian cakes, too. absolutely recommend will go again. 👍
Rob C
Set in a delightful heritage arcade, the service is prompt and friendly. Nice selection of croissants, cakes, slices, muffins and my pick, a gluten free raspberry friand - light and delicious. Sandwiches and light meals available in an extensive menu for those peckish or ravenous catered for equally.  Coffee was smooth and rich with citrus flavours and caramel undertones.  Both  short and long black were good to the last drop with no bitterness. Reasonable prices given the venue and location, allowing you to appreciate the ornate surrounds and watch the passing parade..

A little Italian gem in Melbourne! It's a little Italy! Everything about this place is special, the table setting, the decor , the friendly staff and the food! It's in the arcade and surrounded by boutique ships. Special thanks to the owner for making us so comfortable!
Jim Gard'ner
Really nice, busy little cafe. Great food with fresh ingredients and almost everything is available gluten free which is fantastic for my daughter who is a coeliac. We needed a mid afternoon food and coffee fix and Caffe e Torta hit the spot perfectly.
Gina
Love the vibe of this place. Good place to meet friends or to get a quick wholesome bight. They make pasta and soup the way that mamma makes it. One of my favourite CBD lunch time haunts.
Fooodmachine
This place is a joke, for a start sloping tables that haven't been corrected, crossiants weren't available for the initial part of the morning and it makes half their menu, why wasn't this the first thing they told as as we sat down? Eggs on toast was super soggy, and the crossiant when it came was doughy and not crunchy as it should be. Would not recommend
Renato Silva
I am appalled by the terrible experience my wife just had there.<br/><br/>As she was choosing  a table, a man yelled "girls!, girls! What do you want?"<br/><br/>She said "a table". She was then "told" to sit at a table that this person chose. <br/><br/>She then said "I do not appreciate being called 'girl'". To which the man said: "So, leave my caffe. I am the owner. Leave now!"<br/><br/>I called this man to understand why he did that. He did not let me speak, shouted, interrupted me. I asked his name and he would not say it". He hung up on me and did not speak like a human being.<br/><br/>Avoid it at all costs. The owner is crazy, and they probably spit in your food.
Heather Lennox
Great service. Excellent atmosphere. I must recommend their Mushroom Bruschetti was absolutely delicious and light. I will definitely go back there again even if it is only for that. :D
CK
Excellent location and great ambience. Excellent food - the ricotta and the croissants are fantastic. Service was attentive and friendly. Only issue was the coffee. It is a good brand just badly made.
J Jones
Unpretentious and yet still very cool. Very Melbourne. Compact and cosy venue complimented by a simple menu, shame they no longer do the always excellent daily pasta special which was fab with a coffee on a cold day.<br/><br/>One of the best spots for coffee and a sweet treat in the cbd. Great central location to meet someone.
Lachlan Chan
Was in a rush to get a sandwich. Service was quick and the baguette was hand made with precision. But for $12.80 I would hope I ate a good baguette. It was one of the best made baguettes I've eaten but was a bit too expensive.<br/><br/>The flavour of the smoked ham mixed with fresh cheddar cheese, tomato and lettuce with some Mayo, seeded mustard and butter all in a little bit hard baguette roll<br/><br/>The taste and flavour was 9/10 but value was 4/10

Your stay in any city is always complimented with a good coffee and breakfast. Sometimes if you are lucky you stumble upon the best. <br/>Great food, excellent staff and very cheap.

Great locations! Good atmosphere. But the coffee is bad. Sorry for saying that. We order one strong latte and one strong cappuccino. Is bad. The service is not friendly. Bad experience.

Usually, when visiting Melbourne I take a well worn path straight to Carlton for coffee. Today I worked and needed a caffe between meetings. I found it in Royal arcade at Caffe and Torta.<br/>European styled cafe with table service, excellent Genovese coffee and the finest treats in the CBD.<br/>My lemon meringue was delectable ... I savoured every morsel.<br/>Perfect on s chilly Melbourne day.<br/>Highly recommend.

Caffe E Torta used to be a kind of bohemian / Parisian place to hang out with a special friend and enjoy an afternoon coffee, or a lovely lentil soup. That was a few years ago. I went there recently and things have certainly changed. My frittata was dry and seemed like it had been inside a microwave oven for too long, with a mountain of parmesan sprinkled on top to disguise the taste. Its companion salad appeared and tasted tired. A  bossy lady staff member spoilt the atmosphere by hassling the waitstaff.

If you want a lesson in how a good barista makes all the difference, step into Caffe e Torta. After experiencing a succession of afternoon Baristas over the last 8 years or so, I can confidently say that no one (well, nearly no one-they're getting better) drives that machine as well as Tim does in the morning. Wish I could make the AM session more often. At $4.00 it's expensive, but reliable. <br/><br/>The window bar is still the best people watching spot in Melbourne.
Julie
Lovely little cafe perfect to refuel after a leisurely stroll around the city. The meal options are basic but it's all about the atmosphere.
Bon Bon
A great little cafe serving simple , fresh and pleasant breakfast. As it is little and located inside a nice arcade, you do get the vibe and feel of Europe while enjoying the food. Good for a single diner , sitting at the bar , looking at the lt Collins street, observing passerby and immersing in a relaxed lazy morning.

CHARMING TINY CAFE - Today, Caffe e Torta was my stop for a coffee and a cake, classic! I haven't been able to enter the place until today, as this cafe is packed to the rafters at peak hours. The cafe is really tiny and noisy, but cozy, charming and even cinematic, old European style. I loved the little niche room at the bottom end. <br/><br/>The cakes looked great so I had the strawberry and pistacchio tart and it was very good. Fresh, flavoursome, great pastry, and light. The coffee was also good, but on the smooth side.<br/><br/>The staff were  correct, and the owner very friendly. However, I asked him if he sourced his cakes from A la Folie Patisserie in South Jarrah, he said no, and said that somebody makes the cakes for the cafe. That is not true. Go and  see the display at A la Folie, and if you ask the owner she will tell you that they supply Caffe e Torta with their cakes. Why the need of lying?
Maximilian
Very busy cafè! They have good selection of desserts but they are not all fresh you can feel some has been defrost from the morning! Anyway the location and atmosphere is nice! Coffe is ok
Mehran Rb
flat white was bitter and cold, I asked to make another one and they just put it in the microwave! A rude, grumpy and pretentious lady called herself "manager" when I complained. not a good experience at all !!! do not recommend this place.

My Special Place. Love, love, love this café. Tim makes the best coffee in Melbourne, Andrew and Mary (and Spiro) are wonderful hosts and the staff are friendly and efficient. Food is great and there is everything ranging from baguettes to pasta of the day and everything is fresh and tasty. And, of course, the location and setting are beautiful - reminds me of the little cafes in Italy. Love to get out of the office and escape here at lunchtime or for a coffee. Highly recommend it.

DON'T GO HERE. Kids not welcome!<br/>Was turned away from the front door because we had a stroller.

Garbage. What's happened to Melbourne being a great city to eat in? Just had breakfast here it was shite, poached eggs were well undercooked and came with a slice of coon cheese and packet ham with some dried herbs sprinkled on top. I'm going to go past McDonald's to get a sausage and egg mcmuffin to fill me up and get the taste out of my mouth.

Housed in the historic Block Arcade, the small bistro oozes old-world glamour and offers a deliciously balanced brew of Italian coffee. Sometimes you'll find me doing word search puzzles here, or just sitting at one of the small marble tables that line the corridor...after all,

Cafe E Torta is a smart cafe on Little Collins Street with a faithful following of regulars due to its ambience, great cuisine and service. Come here for a European experience. Sit down and seconds later a warm friendly waiter attends to your order. The ambience is awesome in the arcade or come inside where art and posters adorn the walls in a tribute to Europe.

A part of the ever popular cafe ‘Caffe e Torta’ this little gem really only does macarons, coffee and the honey pops. The range of flavors was good but not too out there and they were a substantial sized treat. We were offered a taster of the ‘signature macaron’, green tea matcha – this was rich, sweet particularly green teaish with a rich decadence too it. It was also really pretty.

While the lunch dishes aren't perfect at Caffe e Torta, they're still good quality and satisfying. The service is efficient even though the place was packed elbow to elbow, and the prices are reasonable. I'm tempted to return to this bustling little cafe for breakfast, or perhaps for a coffee and a big slice of cake. Indeed, the cafe itself is telling me to.

Some places you see a million times thinking you'll go there one day, because while it looks good and interesting you just don't feel like going there that day.  It'd been like that for the longest time with Caffe e Torta, an attempt to recreate a slice of neighborhood Italy incongruously sitting at the end of a Melbourne Victorian era arcade. First thing is, particularly if you've got a hankering to sit inside, getting there fairly soon after 12 would be a good idea.  While the cafe was never completely full so you'd need to wait for a seat it's not the largest of places so getting there early means more seating options.  Sitting outside in the arcade while watching everyone walk past with Christmas shopping was quite nice though anyway, and never at any stage did we feel crowded or hassled by the passing throngs. The menu is fairly straightforward, mainly a number of salads, open and closed sandwiches, some baguettes and a pasta of the day.  It's not particularly cheap but not expens

Great Coffee. Great coffee and service in the heart of Melbourne. Perfect place for a little pick me up in between shopping!

Give it a miss!!. There are so many decent friendly places that serve good coffee and service in this area and this place is not one of them!! I was served by a grumpy person who made me feel that they were doing me a favour by making me a cup of coffee and serving me a piece of cake ( what does torta e caffe mean?), and the quality of both was not good....and that is me being kind !

Best Pasta. Had the most amazing Spaghetti Bolognese on the weekend and the soup was equally as good. Real soul and comfort food. <br/>Will be going back there next time in Melbourne. Was very busy but the staff were great and friendly.

GREAT BREAKFAST. Great breakfast today, beautiful coffee, service good and quick. If in the city early in the morning Cafe E Torta is a very good choice.Today was our first time and we will be going back there again. Also very friendly and helpful to all our questions about the menu. Keep the good work !!!

Give it a miss.. I have given this place a chance three times....staff were rude , the service very poor even though it was not busy and about 5 staff busy doing nothing and looking sour while not doing it, Coffee is nothing special and neither is the food, All it has going for it is the location and it looks really cute. That's enough, I am not going back again and will tell others to avoid it.

A huge disappointment.. Over priced for what you get. flavours don't marry well together and don't ask for sauce! Because they dont do it. <br/>Really disappointed. Won't come back nor recommend.

Nice coffee, good service, nice food but a bit small for what you pay for. Will be back. Overall a nice lunch.

Amazing!! Third visit here in the last 2 weeks and the food is delicious. Atmosphere european, warm, busy. Can't beat the coffee the best I have had in Melbourne. Food home made and fresh! I am going to make this my daily local.

Went into this cafe on a quiet Sunday at 8:30am the rudest owner we have ever come across wanted to sit us in the squishy spot when the place was nearly empty and we were only having coffees and would have been put in 20mins. Not only had he lost $8.00 but he will now not be featured in the Good Food Guide! Silly Silly man

Came here after yoga, saw the place and thought the layout and decoration is very cute, some what like a shop you'd expect to see in a little English town or a scene in Hogwarts.<br/><br/>Sat down and browsed over the menu nothing really seems exciting, but since I'm here let's just give it a try.<br/><br/>Ordered the Chick n bacon melt, a glass of juice and a latte because a day cannot really start until it's 10am and a coffee is consumed.<br/><br/>Waited a good 5mins for the melt, which turned out to be a Turkish bread, with 6 leaves of spinach, a slice of bacon with a pinkish glow and a slice of chicken breast that might have been in the freezer since the death of Hitler, I guess the only think positive would be the fact that the cheese was actually melted.<br/><br/>And to be honest, that was not the worst part. The worst is that the coffee was very average and for the first time I have to wait 15mins for a café latte.<br/><br/>After barely consuming half of my most important meal of the day, I just want to tell all the pedestrians passing by to avoid this place.

Used to be good, now without class.. The staff here are clueless. I ordered a long black and they served it in a glass. It was much too hot too handle so I asked if they could put it in a cup. The waitress brought out a great big orange milo mug from Kmart and sarcastically asked if I wanted her to pour it in and just walked off. I just walked out, amused, never to return.

Felt ripped off. Dined there this morning with my family and thought we would have something light for breakfast. We were shown to a table but when they found out we were only have something small they told us to seat at the counter as they were reserved for people eating breakfast. Don't know what the difference is but hey they obviously think there is. Had coffee which was very good and shared a blueberry muffin and a ham and mushroom melt. No prices on any of the food in the cases so I was horrified when I saw the bill and the melt was $15.20. No salad, no garnish just the melt on the plate. That is terribly overpriced for what I felt was average. Understand the rent is expensive in the city so you have to charge more for you food but you display the prices of your menu so people are aware of what they are paying. Would go back for coffee but certainly not the food.

Nice experience.. Ordered the vegetarian frittata with salad on the side.<br/>The frittata was sensational but I thought the side of salad had no thought put into it. <br/>Service was pretty nice, one young waitress I noticed was too focused on knocking off work as her approach towards me while I was fixing up the bill was sour and uncomfortable.<br/><br/>But I will be back, it was a nice outing.

Great little spot in the city. Has a great coffee and bite to eat here this week. The staff were friendly and the service prompt - one person did hover a little to ensure we didn't waste time I suspect but she was easily ignored. Yes the tables are cramped but this usually isn't a problem unless very busy. Good variety on menu and the food was fresh and tasty.

Great service, and flexible catering for special dietary requirements. Well recommended.

Mobile review. I have been visiting this establishment for over two years, the coffee is excellent, I have never had a coffee there that wasn't excellent, food freshly picked from the market, I have avocado and fetta on rye or Turkish bread, always excellent and the spaghetti bolonaise is amazing, this dish is one of their best, order with bread and olive oil, supurb. Although I have only eaten breakfast a couple of times, fresh and excellent once again. I can highly recommend this establishment, staff friendly, owners friendly and all very professional. I am very fussy and when I find somewhere special I stick with it, twoyears later still love the place.

One of my favourite finds.. Found this place last year and I'm so proud! Absolutely love the interior, very cosy and the coffee is delicious. Staff are very friendly. Perfect location. Caffe E Torta is a little gem. Perfectly located in the heart of the CBD. Pasta of the day is always a favourite. If you don't have an Italian Nonna this is what you are missing. Also best coffee within miles.

Classy little cafe located in the Royal Arcade. Plenty of seats and quick and attentive waiters. The coffee was top notch although $5.30 for a large cappuccino on a weekend is pretty solid! Nice place for a stop in.

Great view.... Absolutely loved this cafe. The staff were lovely. The atmosphere was great. Coffee wasn't quite hot enough for my liking but the flavour was spot on. I had a fruit salad which was delicious. And the food around the table all looked really tasty. Continually filled up our water and were more than willing to split the bill. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend it.

Great Cafe - best coffee. Caffe E Torta has been my absolutely fave coffee shops for years!!! In addition to great coffee, hot, iced - whatever you want, they also make the best salad sandwich in Melbourne - in my view.

Discriminates against mums. Won't let people in with prams. Rude & ignorant staff. Avoid if parents and others should votes with their feet too.
