Review Pier Port Melbourne - Melbourne

Fashion and chill place that have our lunch (dinner or get a beer would be more awesome) . Have order the pork belly and chicken burger. Let’s talk about the pork belly, great skill with roast the pork that crispy skin with the juicy well done body. Especially the sauce, peach and apple with the vinegar (I guess), it’s first time I try this sauce that the oily time could be resolve. The other one , fried chicken burger, would more like South Africa style. Have a bite would feedback you many layer favor, the best burger in Melbourne!

Went for dinner last night for the first time. Beautiful cocktail lounge area and lovely fire places. Staff were exceptionally lovely and attentive. The dining area is beautiful and has a relaxed atmosphere. Meals were all fabulous. Highly recommend the chilli mussels! We all agreed, we would definitely be going back there again soon.

Great spot for a meal- gorgeous water views, friendly staff and delicious food. Great range of dishes. Have eaten here a few time and no matter what dish you have, it’s always fresh, tasty and hot. Special thanks to the wonderful staff Steven & Chloe for the amazing service during a celebratory birthday lunch :)

Came here with my partner and 3 kids. Meals were great but the service was excellent. It was especially good by the bloke with the goatee. He was great with our kids. Joking around and entertaining them with his charm. They absolutely loved him.

I recently had my wedding ceremony and reception at pier Port Melbourne. I've got to say that it's a top notch venue with number one customer service and food. All our guests loved the place and the staff!! Hats off to the wonderful crew who helped with everything on the day. Also special thanks to Rachel, for helping us along the way and for being so flexible and allowing us to perform all our traditional, cultural rites at the wedding. I absolutely recommend this wonderful place to anyone without any second thoughts. Thankyou everyone at pier Port Melbourne for making my big day such wonderful and successful.

The service at the Pier Port Melbourne is to restaurants what Donald Trump is to politics (or even perhaps humanity). I will caveat this by saying the Chap behind the bar was great. It's difficult to choose which aspect of the dining experiencing was least enjoyable, but let's give it a go. Firstly, we were left waiting outside for quite a while after being told "someone will come to you shortly". We eventually moved inside to ensure we were visible, which seemed to work quite well. One of our three meals came out very quickly... But after about twenty minutes, the single competent chap behind the bar flagged with the (half a dozen) wait staff that the other two meals were still absent from our table. "No, they didn't order anything else" proclaimed the tall, sleazy, ethnic chap. We were quick to point out that we did indeed order some food. If humble pie was on the menu, he sure would have been tucking into some shortly afterwards. E The wait staff also have an aversion to the provision of cutlery, as we had to retrieve our own for entree and also all of our mains. One waitress came over towards the end of our meal and asked if I would like another drink, which was very thoughtful of her. I politely declined, fully expecting my fellow diners to also be asked if they wanted a drink. However she promptly disappeared, whilst my friends remained parched. The most impressive part of all this was the fact that none of the staff thought a 'sorry' was warranted after our lengthy delays. Lucky that the meals were reasonably priced. Waaaaaiiit.... Ps the food was quite nice, once It arrived

We often go to The Pier for it's very high quality service, and amazing food & wine to die for, It's such a great atmosphere with a lovely view, we always have a good time here. I could not recommend the venue, food or service any higher.

I recently celebrated my 40th birthday at The Pier - upstairs Cocktail Room, and it was a fantastic experience! The staff in the lead up and on the evening were all sensational and very helpful. The room I believe is one of the best venues Melbourne has to offer. The food was superb! And most importantly all the guests (as well as myself) had a fantastic time! Highly recommend the team at The Pier for any celebrations you want to do in style - you won't be disappointed, they're top notch!!

Thank you to the pier. We had our Christmas party there and everything was perfect. Service was impeccable and I highlight recommend this venue. A huge thank you to the staff. In particular Adrian and Nicole.

I had my 21st and the Pier and it defiantly was a night to remember. From the venue location with million dollar views in the cocktail room over looking the bay and station pier, stunning interior decorating, amazing food and beautiful staff it which attended to every need, it was the perfect place to celebrate one of the most special nights and will be one for me to remember for a long time. Thank you so much xxx

Monday Night I was blown away by not only the quality of the food but the service was first class and the place was packed whilst every other pub in Port Melb was empty - Luv the Pier #TootToot !!!

We Recently got married in the Cocktail room of The Pier and it was a great night! Maddy who was looking after us on the night, made sure everything went smoothly and most importantly that we the Bride and Groom were fed and had a drink! She was very professional and we had a great night without any hiccups. The food was awesome and there was plenty to go around for the party and the waitstaff were always smiling and were lovely to chat to. We had a magical day so Thank you to The Pier and all the staff that made it happen :)

The staff at the Pier are very well mannered and look after us every time that we have been there. Jean the functions manager is so polite and easy to deal with for functions. I could not recommend a better venue to have a function here. Keep up the fantastic work guys!

I had my 40th birthday lunch here last Saturday and was really happy with the food, service and ambience. The staff were accommodating and there a good range of affordable menu options to suit everyone's tastes and share among friends. We had a great time and will be back.

The service was fab the food pretty average l would not recomend it if your going for the food
Foodme
The service here was great and location is nice too. The food mostly looked good at the table, i ordered the fish tacos, to be honest i didnt get what i was expecting, and the menu wasnt clear. Im not a big fan of salmon as i didnt expect salmon in a fish taco. So i ended up with a soggy soft taco that didnt appeal to me. My partners pizza had a thick dough. But the calamari and japense chicken was good. Would try again here but order different.

We had a 9pm booking there tonight (14 September). I was looking forward to having a nice romantic dinner with my husband. I have to say it was one of the worst experiences we have ever encountered in our entire lives. The service here was absolutely appalling. <br/><br/>When we arrived, although there were plenty of clear tables they put us right next to table of 40 people who had their kids constantly running around us,our table and were screaming. This table of forty also the men at the table were screaming at the top of their lungs at the afl as if it was TAB. <br/><br/>We ordered entrees and mains as soon possible after having to get the waiters attention. We asked to have food come out as soon as possible especially considering the screaming kids running around our table. We waited for ages for the entrees. Eventually they came. <br/><br/>After entrees were cleared, we waited forty minutes on mains while they constantly serve the table of 40. Eventually we asked for an ETA as it was getting ridiculous. We were then told another 15 minutes. Then 15 minutes later we told another five minutes<br/><br/>Then we hear a loud bang. Then a waitress comes to our table and goes we go sorry we dropped your steak on the floor, we can bring the fish out now if your like or keep it warm. It was funny even though we requested food as soon as possible, they didn’t manage to drop any of the other tables forty meals. I advised it was really awkward to eat in front of your partner when they don’t have their mains. I then had to let them know it is also not acceptable to service cold fish as they just wanted to hold it until they had made another steak. <br/><br/>Then they go okay, will have start over and make them all again. We then go through waiting another 15 minutes and then of course another five while again kids are still running around our table and men screaming at the top of their lungs.<br/><br/>It took well over an hour to finally get our mains. We normally <br/><br/>order dessert but after what we endured so far; we were not sticking around any longer. I asked for the bill. They then gave us bill charging us the entire amount, even though they all well aware of what we had to put up with.<br/><br/>When I complained how ridiculous to charge us the full amount after that abysmal experience we got some discount. At no point did staff offer to move us, they knew we wanted food as soon as possible and still proceeded to service the table of 40 and disregard us. Then they dropped our steak and we had to wait even longer. Then they had to start the whole process again when they dropped the food, all while still being surrounded by party of 40 screaming kids and men screaming at their phones.<br/><br/>It was one of the worst dining experiences we have every encountered. We regret ever making the decision to come here and wished we had stayed at home.
Melbourne Madness
A personal favourite happy place!I always make a visit to the Pier Port Melbourne when I get my hair done in the area - I love to sit out the front, order a drink and some food and relax with a book!Food is delicious and being so close to the beach is an automatic relaxant. <br/><br/>Can highly recommend the bruschetta and the spaghetti!I think I am overdue for another trip here now I think about it.See you soon team! :)

Well arrived at 1230 last Sunday. Food came at 230! Ordered oysters Kilpatrick and they use BBQ sauce. WTF. Just cheap and not right so sent them back. Complained about the massive delay and the kitchen apologized but nothing offered to make us feel even the slightest bit better. Never again. Telling everyone. Nice location and the waiting staff are nice but seem stressed
Mjloco
Location is amazing but service and food quality are unfortunately sub-par. We went on a sunny day so granted the venue was busier than usual. However waiting over an hour for food, and on top of that not even being offered water in the meantime, put a dampener on our whole day. Could be simply rectified by adding another couple of staff members who had a bit more experience.

Lovely venue! Food was immaculate. Staff were attentive without being invasive which i love! We got 2 wood fired pizzas to share between 3 people along with a grilled chicken and quinoa salad, 2 espresso martini's and a cider, we could not for the life of us finish it all! All were A grade. The highlight was the prosciutto pizza which was on the specials menu. Pizzas are cooked fresh and very filling! I would LOVE to come back to try more! Thanks for the hospitality guys 😊 X

A cosy venue with a great location. Loved the option of a fire place. Were very accommodating to a large group of us. Offered a great menu with heaps of options and a great assortment of drinks. Staff were lovely.

The Pier in Port Melbourne is a fabulous place to eat and drink with friends and family. I've been several times for coffee and cake with friends, lunch to functions. Recently we had a late night coffee and shared a cheesecake. Coffee was good and service is always great.

Great place to come if your in Port Melbourne. It’s on the cnr of Beach Rd and Bay St. The food was very good but have to say that it was a bit pricey. The service was excellent and made you feel welcome.

A very stylish place in a beautiful part of the world. The fire place was on and made for a very comfortable evening. <br/>We ordered: <br/>Starters:: Calamari with aoli - tender and flavoursome<br/>Thai style chicken San choy bow - refreshing and aromatic. A first for my friend. I could have had more!<br/>Pan friend tiger Prawns with chorizo - in a salad style <br/>All great - favourite was San choy bow. <br/><br/>Then: <br/>Soft shell crab tacos- I've had these a couple of times before. I'm glad they are still on the menu. Very popular. <br/>Also ordered Fries as a side. <br/><br/>Finished with: <br/>Cheesecake with berries <br/>Very filling but light and fluffy at the same time. <br/><br/>Also: Morgans Bay sparkling went down very well. A lovely sparkling only at $9. <br/><br/>Service was good. It wasn't a busy night. Our waitress although lovely, could have pulled back a little on asking if we are ready to order. We all felt that asking us 3 separate times ( while clearly in mid conversation) was too much. <br/>Also, attempting to taking plates with food on them a tad early was not cool. <br/>Newby maybe. Love this place nevertheless.

Beautiful interiors, very well maintained for a busy place. The bartenders are friendly and very nice. Pleasant place to hang out for drinks. Love the location, as you get a good view. Better decent price. I also like the caramel pudding that they have !
Good Food Good Mood
I like to tell myself I have a balanced meal here. I devour a carby garlic bread (solo) and then enjoy a fresh nourishing salad. I've eaten at The Pier countless times pre frying myself at Port Melbourne beach and there's always plenty of delicious options to chose from. It's not cheap but your experiencing a million dollar view and you can't put a price on breathing fresh sea air in a friendly modern establishment. <br/><br/><br/>

Been here a few times over the past few years as I am a local... nothing special, but not bad to sit have a chat.. Pizzas are good and service is attentive

Excellent food, service and cocktails. Came here for a sunday session in the sun. Love this place, the people and the lamb shoulder is amazing and staff very friendly.

Sure whatever I couldn't resist this resto, even if it is out of regular rotation. Leave it to me to order a burger and wings though. Yes I was a Solo diner, but wait staff showed no judgement and made the night a pleasant experience. Burger had that restaurant touch and wings were tender and juicy could have been crisper. If I could have chips, I would! Wash it down with some free water, you have to keep it humble.

Very busy night we didn't have a booking but was lucky enough to get a table. Service was very good food was amazing from the entree to main and dessert, price you pay for what you get, fantastic spot to watch the sunset. Will be back again.<br/><br/>Back ahain tonight 23 February same awesome service with a smile. Manager even remembered us from last time. Food as good as ever will be back again, also have cute bar out the back we will have to try. Cocktails and beer's next time.

Bad experience.Booked for brekkie 11am and was ushered to an unset table in the middle of a small function room where several people were hanging around, apparently waiting for some event to happen.Gave me some stupid excuse about them fully booked for lunch at 130pm,hence wanting to put us there and not giving me a table in the otherwise main section which was empty and had tables all set.I reminded them that I was just there for brekkie.<br/>So I got my table but they told me I have to finish by 1230pm which was fine for me.<br/>3 orders, one order completely wrong. How difficult is it for anyone to get an order right especially when there are too many staff and so few customers? Then just before 12noon,i was told to settle my bill first. What a bad experience.<br/>Restaurant looked nice. That is the only plus about this place.Poached eggs -they can't do it right. Bread-alcheapo french toast inplace of sourdough.<br/>

I went to this place against my better judgement as I knew the inflated prices were to cover their rent and/or charging us for the location. <br/><br/>It's a nice place, clean with neat décor and is on the corner of Bay and Beach Sts, overlooking the port and bay.<br/><br/>Contrary to other reports, the staff were quite attentive and polite with us but they weren't busy.<br/><br/>We didn't order much, a beer and Mango Margarita, the lamb tacos and the bread with dips. The beer was good, the lamb tacos fairly tasty but on the light side for $19, the Margarita uninspiring. The bread and dips consisted of bread with olive oil and balsamic - when staff were asked where the dips were, we were advised that it was on top of the bread....that's when we noticed there was cheese and herbs melted on top. It wasn't great and for $18.50 was really just taking the proverbial.<br/><br/>The food might be as good as others have suggested but the fare I received wouldn't suggest so and I wouldn't go back to find out.<br/><br/>$65 for a beer, Margarita, lamb tacos and bread with dips isn't good value.<br/><br/>

Came here today after a long time since our last visit...love the menu they have now. ....special shout out for the croquettes and the spaghetti pumpkin dish....wow...give these a go! Just a quick comment on the fish and chips...batter needs a bit if work (more batter than fish which tends to get quite greasy in your stomach once eaten)and a little salad would have been nice. Next time i will try the san choy boi and fish taco. Service great wine great...enjoyed our lunch.

Had the beef burger here, was delicious, great combination of ingredients and chef's mayo top it off. We also had the chicken buffalo ribs with ranch aside which went down a treat
Plummy Loves Yummy
I have eaten here many times. <br/><br/>The piers location is perfect you can sip on a beautiful wine overlooking port Phillip bay. <br/><br/>Food:<br/><br/>Mussels. Probably my favourite thing on the menu. A deep red chilli sauce with a good portion size of mussels- probably one of the cheaper things on the menu- well worth it. <br/><br/>Pizzas- I wasn't a fan of the prawn pizza. It was almost sweet, however the vegetarian pizza is so good- packed with flavour and sun dried tomatoes. <br/><br/>Steak- look- it was great but with other contenders nearby charging the same price for a piece of steak id be tempted to leave that for one of the big guns (see my other reviews). <br/><br/>Chicken burger- it's nice to have a beautifully cooked piece of breast (not covered in batter for once) in a sexy brioche bun. Highly recommended. <br/><br/>The piers location wins here. I feel like they need to add a few more staples to their menu to entice people to eat here more regularly.

Good service by happy staff in a great environment. The food was really good. We had the scallops with black sesame aioli and mango salsa, buffalo wings, soft shell crab tacos, San Choi Bao and chats. The scallops were amazing - I licked the plate, no way I was leaving any of that aioli behind. Did I detect truffle oil in it? Maybe. Mmmm. Buffalo wings were really well considered. Just enough chilli to leave warmth on your palette but not HOT. YUM. Soft shell crab was good but could have been better with some aioli or something. San Choi Bao was great. The potatoes were a bit naf - not crispy and a bit tired. Still, a great experience and will definitely go again. Definitely. Great price too considering what you get.
Food_fiend99
Because of its fantastic location across from South Melbourne Beach I have always wanted to try The Pier. The restaurant it self is very nice on the inside and outside, great decor. The food in my opinion could be improved, especially given the price of everything. The soft crab tacos were quite underwhelming and so was my mum's linguini in terms of taste. I think if that could be improved then it would be great. I did enjoy the bruschetta and croquettes though, they were tasty. Also they have fantastic milkshakes!
Mandy Fung
Great food and ambience but the service is extremely lacking! Our sparkling wine was brought to the table and opened but was not poured and left on the table in an ice bucket. The waitress forgot to place one of our main course orders and then told us it wasn't on her notebook, insinuating it wasn't ordered. We had to wait for ages to get attention from the wait staff to ask for our bill. Then we waited for at least 15 minutes or so for someone to collect the bill. The food was great but there are so many good restaurants that I'm not sure how it's acceptable to provide lacklustre service.
James Rockaferd
Great food and magnificent service! Atmosphere around the place during a hot night is quite good as well. Prices are to be expected from within the area.
Bernardo Jacobi
Been here 4 times and I really love the food in this place. Service is good and staff is friendly. I've had wood fired pizza, burgers, and fish bites (a-m-a-z-i-n-g). Good drinks and atmosphere on weekend nights. I will definitely keep coming, it's a bit pricey but worth it.

Have attended the Pier on several occasions and enjoyed both the salads and pizzas 🙂 great atmosphere and friendly service. Highly recommend the venue for a relaxed lunch!
Nick O'conner
Last night went to the Pier Hotel for family dinner, there were 5 of us, I had the Mediterranean meatballs which were off the planet good, My brothers shared a few pizzas, Highly recommend the Lamb and Prawn pizza. Best Pizza we tasted in a long while. Service was great with staff recommending various wines to compliment our meals. The dessert again was amazing, We come here regularly for family dinner and the food, drinks and staff are all generally consistent. We also recommend extended family to visit from out of state when they come to stay. Thanks again for the professional service, which is rare to find these days.

I went to the Pier to catch up with a few friends. I absolutely loved the Mediterranean Meatballs. I finished off with a beautiful dessert (panna cotta). This venue was absolutely pumping. What a great vibe. The service was very good and the beach views were great. There were 2 cruise liner docked there on station pier, what a great view. I will defiantly be back.

Dropped by here afterwork one day.. One really hot day!! Didnt need to book ahead, there were tables available so that was good. Dont get me wrong though - it was still quite busy!! I think there may have been a wedding nearby?<br/><br/>Foods - absolutely delicious!!! Got a salmon thingy majig on avocado...
Kat Louise
Had lunch calamari, lamb tacos and calamari linguini was beautiful. The service was amazing and love the barbarian decor in sun lounge area 😊

A lovely venue in Port Melbourne across the road from the beach. They have lots of options for food, including some great vegetarian options. There are function rooms upstairs that cater for varying size crowd and have a great view. The staff are very friendly, and this place is definitely worth a visit!

I went here for the first time the other day and the food was amazing. I had the chicken fillet burger and it was so delicious. The service was fantastic too. I will definitely be coming back to try other things on the menu. Great spot for lunch and a few drinks.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
The Pier is in a fantastic location opposite the beach. It has a lot going for it. Decent meals, a spacious drinks area and the service was very attentive too. My mum's dish would have been the pick of the day. It was a gargantuan bowl of mussels in a tomato based sauce with a touch of piquancy. It came with toasted baguette for dipping and pomme frites. It was messy eating but very satisfying.

I'm not the one to write a review about anything however, I feel like this needs to be said. I sat outside and seeing as they didn't seem to have a dress code I thought it would be alright to be eating lunch on a nice sunny hot day in a singlet. I walked inside grabbed a couple menus and sat outside and was ready to order. Two ladies came and sat behind me and they were immediately offered menus and water by a female waitress who seemed to be ignoring me. Couple minutes later a male waiter (who seemed like a manager) came to me and advised me that they would be requiring a credit card to put behind the bar in order to get a table number and to order food as well. I'm not sure if this is a norm at this venue however the ladies behind me weren't asked for their credit card so I assume it was just me. At the time I didn't think much of it but the more I thought about it... The more angry i got. I assume that the manager thought I would not be able to pay for the food, (this might be speculation but it could be due to the fact that I was wearing a singlet) hence the credit card behind the bar. Look I work in hospitality as well and I know some places don't accept singlets and if this place looked like a place that doesn't allow singlets, I wouldn't have gone in. When I went in to pay my bill, I asked whether taking credit cards behind the bar before I could order food was the norm at this venue And they explained that only if I was sitting outside, and I asked them why the ladies behind me weren't asked for their credit card? Got a response of 'they should have been.' If this is a venue policy, maybe implement it to everyone outside otherwise don't single out a single person solely based on their appearance. I left with a bad taste in my mouth. Doubt I will return.

Nice place. Food is standard. Its over price pub meal. Menu selection are okay. I dont think i be back for lunch or dinner regularly. More place for work function kind a stuff. Service is friendly and attentive.
Heidi
Started with the bruschetta and then had the soft shell crab tacos! They were good, but could do with some extra chili! The calamari linguini was really nice too! Really nice local pub.
Sharon
Ate here for dinner and got a lovely booth seat. The food is very nice and so is the venue however service is a bit slow. Waited a long time between ordering mains and desserts. I had the flourless chocolate and macadamia pudding that was a little dry. Service could be improved but a very nice place

It's a shame that one of the most beautiful locations in Port Melbourne is so average. Have eaten here a number of times and have had functions in both the downstairs and upstairs rooms. Food is consistently average and relatively overpriced. Wait staff are however quite friendly. So much potential here.
Shtik
The food was expensive and pretty average. The paella had chewy calamari that wasn't cooked enough. The chorizo was undercooked. Overall it looked and tasted bland. Very noisy place. When we paid by visa we were charged a 1.5 percent surcharge. Definitely would not recommend this restaurant there are too many better and cheaper places to eat nearby
YumYum
Great pub / restaurant. We come here a lot. Best place to sit is in the booths. The good and service is consistently good. The soft shell crab tacos are a must. Criticism is no variety in menu and very few non meat options which is disappointing.
Nick The Greek
Like the Pier for drinks or lunch / dinner . Great on a sunny afternoon out on the street or inside next to the fire on those cold wet days. Try the soft shell crab tacos. Good share plates as well.

We gathered and The Pier delivered. I cannot speak highly enough about the wonderful service we received from all the staff at The Pier with a very special thanks to Glenn for making our day. <br/>I arrived in Port Melbourne from WA with family down from rural Victoria to commemorate the 100th year of our grandfather sailing off for the first war from the old Town Pier site across the road. <br/>We had chosen The Pier as a meeting point months ago due to its proximity, not realising the day coincided with Mothers Day. We arrived in the afternoon, it was extremely busy and we were only expecting a small gathering. Our numbers unexpectedly blew out to over 30 with family travelling down at the last minute from Canberra and NSW. <br/>Despite being extremely busy at the time Glenn couldn't have done more for us. He found us a table, later turned down the music and even had the kitchen turn off exhaust fans to allow us to do some commemorative speeches and a song.<br/>The lunch menu was excellent and meals were fantastic.<br/>The service we received on Sunday was truly exceptional and we cannot thank you enough for a brilliant day.<br/>We'll see you again the next time we are in town.

Great location and surprisingly great food. Have been there a few times whenever I go to the beach and it never disappoints. Top quality food that you would expect from a high end restaurant. Even the simple dishes have a touch of class. Would highly recommend..

Entrees were oysters (yes I adore them, leave me alone) and a cucumber and tomato salad. The owner, who is a lovely man, suggested we order the calamari salad and the meatball pasta. He should know, right?! So of course we ordered them both to share. For the main I had the char grilled aged eye fillet, Sammy had the pan fried barramundi and Fred admitted food overload (our third meal out that day) and stuck to the sides! I think I ate half the the meatball pasta on my own. It was not what I expected, it was a thousand times better. Beef meatballs with orecchiette, kale & pinenuts. Give it a whirl! My steak was

Their lounge is relaxing and comfortable. A fire rages on a wall and a couple of televisions are erected for viewing sport and also silly television shows. I wasn't sure that they planned to broadcast the AFL as when we arrived Zac Efron was singing about something in what I assumed was High School Musical so I was elated to find the AFL being broadcast when I later returned to the area with a beer. Although they do not provide table service in the lounge, both the bar and the toilet are in striking distance and it is not inconvenient to hang out and watch the sport at this place. When I previously attended The Pier, I thought that it would be a good candidate for a relaxing Saturday afternoon so I was pleased that I was not disappointed. At the time of this writing, 53% of the punters who reviewed The Pier on Urbanspoon liked it.

Lunch in Port Melbourne. Had a fantastic lunch at The Pier on Friday afternoon. Waitress was welcoming, answered all our questions and suggested a wine to compliment the meal. Food and drinks all came out quickly and tasted excellent. Very impressed, definitely back ASAP!

Beautiful, tasty and great service. We're locals and come here regularly: the staff = wonderful, the food = great, the ambience = outstanding & with its beach side views , its our favourite place for meals or drinks with friends - NB. the cocktails are awesome!

Amazing!!!. Had a great experience at The Pier. Nice staff and had the best table by the beach. The calamari salad is a must! My friends and I will definitely be back.

The razza of restaurants. Oh my god. the only thing drier than pork crackling I had is my day job.

One of the worst experiences I have had. We were four people dinning together. 2 people order the fillet steak for approx $37 and the other 2 ordered the stock fillet for approx $38. The steaks come with fat fries. I politely asked the waitress to swap my fries for a salad. She said she would check with the chef and let me know. She came back and told us that they could swap the fries for a salad but they would have to charge. I ask her how much and she said she didn't know. I ask for my steak to come with out the fries. She then returned with our meals, all with fries except my mine, which had nothing extra on the plate. When my husband saw his meal, which was consisted of the steak sitting on top of 5 fat fries, he asked for my fires. The other 2 people got 6 fries. Guess what he received exactly 5 fries on a side plate. <br/>We also order a salad to share ($10). It came in a ramekin. Boy o boy. <br/>I WILL NEVER GO TO THE PIER AGAIN AND I AM NOT ASHAMED TO TELL OTHERS<br/> ABOUT MY EXPREINCE

The Pier Hotel. Lunch Sunday 12th October 2014 It is a good palce to go if you are on a diet because there is hardly any food on the plate although very pricy. Fish & Chips $24.50 - 2 small pieces of fish and approximately 8 chips in a small container no more than 3 inches wide & chips are standing on end. Got money paid for deserts refunded as they were not delivered to us after an hour of waiting and we needed to leave. Would not go back there if you paid me to.

How hard can it be to cook two hunks of scrap pieces of lamb.. Went there with a few mates from work. Nice place. Staff was helpful. But the food. OMG never have i been served such crap. Buffalo chicken ribs were bland. Had to drain them in salt just to bring out some flavour. <br/>Open lamb souvlaki was worst meal I have ever had. Two strips of lamb which looked like off cuts severly undercooked. Are chefs too lazy to cook these days that they want to cook meat as little as possible. Even the waitress agreed it was raw. Now I know why there was very little lighting above the tables. Never going there again. Should've gone around the corner to Zorbas and had a real souvlaki for a fraction of the cost.

Definitely the best restaurant/ lounge Venue in Port Melbourne!!!. I went to the Pier with my friends. Great location right at the beach, a stunning view and a brand new food menu. I was really surprised about the Beef Meatballs and the Rhubarb & Ginger Syllabub desert was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the Pier !!

SO MUCH FOOD!. I came in here with a few friends for a quick meal last Friday and was not expecting such a cool little place. Firstly there is a sweet funky lounge and secondly the food was actually quite good. We shared the Chili muscles, the San choy bow, crab tacos and lamb shoulder between 4 of us and WAY to much food. None the less we finished it cause I couldn't see this great food go to waste... but instead to my waist. Great service, from really friendly people.

Great location, amazing food. Had lunch at the Pier Port Melbourne yesterday, ordered the brioche chicken burger and it was very tasty and home made ! Very cosy and modern location sitting next to the fire with the ocean view for my partner.Quick service definitely "The Place to be" we'll come back thank you Guys!

So over priced for very average food! I'm a local and have eaten at the pier three times! Every single time is a disappointment. The menu hasn't changed in two years and wcerything on the menu is tasteless, poor quality and to top it off EXPENSIVE! It's such a shame because it's an amazing location!

Another great place in port melb. After having a great little lunch at corte I didn't think it could get better for dinner<br/>We made a booking at the pier for 4 Friday night dinner and this place is booming with what they call vinyl nights playing great old tracks<br/>We dinned in the restaurant and with a great view, our waiter glen was a great and a funny guy <br/>He quickly recommended the lamb shoulder to share at $50 for two it was big enough and was amazing, great flavours that just melts in your mouth <br/>One of my friends had a plain old burger ( well that's what I thought, how boring) ,but to my surprise he was fixed into this burger and I had to have a bite to see what the fuss was about and it was so juicy and delicious. <br/>Highly recommended this place, great food, good and different selection of beers and friendly staff who seem to enjoy having you their
Food 2 Run
In town for the great ocean road marathon and called into the pier for a meal after a run along the beach. $$$ for food and average meal. Service was good. Been to the pier before and thought was pretty good. Not this time..shame...

Great location with really nice view. Staff were attentive and accommodating. Good choice of pub/ cafe style menu. Quite expensive but nothing to complain about. Chocolate and macadamia but pudding worth waiting 15 mins for!
Sharon
Great food, staff and value for money. A very 'chilled' atmosphere - the perfect place to find something to tempt your taste buds and relax. Highly recommended.

Enjoyable night. My wife and I enjoyed our night at the pier, great service and fantastic food. Our oysters were so fresh, lamb taco was a winner and that was just our entrees. Started with a beer I've never had which is called min. Chips ( recommended by our waitress) and was tasty. We both had a steak for mains, a juicy 400 g scotch with triple cooked chips, they are so fluffy inside and crispy outer. We had to retire to the lounge area (so so full). The lounge is a great area for pre drinks, we didn't notice this when we walk in, but we know for next time because we will defiantly be back

We chose to eat here and decided to read the reviews whilst waiting for our meals and I must say, I wasn't really looking forward to eating after reading them. We were pleasantly surprised to find good sized meals that tasted really good, the service was friendly and prompt and we really enjoyed dining here. I do think it is a bit pricey but other than that, we were very happy.

Shame about the food. We've visited the pier before and had a good nite a few years ago...but unfortunately our latest experience wasn't all that great.<br/>Booked a table for valentine's eve a few weeks ago, and arrived to a half full venue. Seated quickly and given water and menus: but no mention of the specials that were printed on a sheet on the table and on a chalk-board.<br/>Drinks came quickly as did entree.<br/>Mains arrived very promptly...which again was good (the venue was getting busy by this stage). We'd ordered a steak and one of the specials: the seafood bouillabaisse. Steak was ok...sauce a bit bland. Bouillabaisse though was almost inedible. Under seasoned, mussels that hadn't opened at all, over cooked prawns, and raw crab meat. When we mentioned to the waitress she apologised as she removed our plates, and mentioned to the "pizza chef" but our feedback didn't make it further than that. She apologised again as she brought our bill, but nothing further: all items still on the bill, not even complimentary entree. All in all...a disappointing evening, over priced, mediocre service,

Great location; everything else was very ordinary. Dined here one weeknight with my partner and three children. Amongst the cons was the fact that I was blinded by the setting sun for most of the meal (I have a suspicion we were given this table because we had kids - many others were free when we sat down). Secondly the service was dreadful. I almost had to scream out to the wait staff to be noticed. Lastly, while the food was OK it wasn't anything special and was, in my opinion, greatly overpriced. The bill for two adults, three kids - one main each, kids each had a bowl of ice cream plus a soft drink each for the kids and one glass of (pretty ordinary) wine for the adults, was well over $200. So does uncomfortable venue (for me at least with the sun), atrocious service and only average food = value for money? Not even close.

Solid wines, solid food and solid service.....the sunset views are cracking

Great location, pleasant service I wasn't impressed with the food. My risotto was bland no chicken stock or wine flavour. They also seem to have a problem with portion control, other diners meals looked alot fuller than ours. Left dissapointed.

Excellent - Highly Recommended. Having read the reviews on Urban Spoon I was unsure whether to book dinner for visiting guests. My experience has always been good at The Pier Hotel (and therefore surprised by the negative reports and poor recommendations) and tonight was no exception. The ambience is fantastic; the staff terrific, professional, friendly and with great attention; the food was excellent in quality and presentation. The bottle of wine ordered was not available, but they offered a dearer wine at the same price. Without hesitation, recommend The Pier Hotel for a great night.

Whats not to like. We love the pier hotel, the staff are bubbly, and there is so much to choose from on the menu, you dont see a large menu much with a great variety. We keep going back and trying something new everytime and haven't been disapointed. <br/>We highly recommend the eye fillet steak it melts in your mouth, and the lamb pizza<br/>Desserts are great too we love the chocolate platter to share so full after that<br/>The pier is our new place for sunday lunch

Good food god serverise good place do go come.

Never Again. Possibly the most pretencious venue in Melbourne, The Pier dining experiance over the weekend left a lot to be desired.<br/><br/>Jammed on a table that was practically in the kitchen, my three friends and I had the pleasure of hearing some quite inappropriate comments and language from the chefs, the service was horrible, and the food looked like it had been slapped together by an amatuer.<br/><br/>My al-dente risotto was swimming in a puddle of water, my friend's fish was fried so dark it looked as bad as she said it tasted, the other dishes weren't quite to the standard you would expect from a menu with prices such as these, even the complementary bread tasted like it was yesterdays bread toasted 4 hours ago.<br/><br/> A mix up with our bill topped off a night to forget as we all left the restaurant for the last time, with a sour taste in everyones mouth.

Afternoon with friends...... Just had a late lunch....left the ordering to the waiter and we received 3 beautifully presented dishes ,calamari , crab tacos and oysters which was accompioned by a light Punt Road Pinot Grigo.Loved the warm and happy atmosphere and watched the sunset over the Bay. Great way to spend the afternoon, already planning next time. Highly recommend

Great place for an evening drink. Nice sharing plates, especially the soft shell crab tacos. The Pier is a classic Port Melbourne pub...outstanding views, nice wine list, pleasant and knowledgable staff and lots of local clientele.

Lucky find. A friend and I stopped into the Pier on a whim, it was just where we were when the urge to eat hit us.<br/><br/>I went for the Margherita pizza, friend chose the Eye Fillet steak.<br/><br/>I like having a margherita pizza first, before I get into the more exotic choices at a place, because, in my opinion, if you can't get the simple ones right, you most likely really don't get the complex ones right. Well, no issues there the pizza was delicious, piping hot when I received it, and went well with my crowny lager (on tap! how often does that happen!?).<br/><br/>My friend asked for a pinot noir to have over his meal, and the waitress actually let him have a taste from two bottles before he made his choice.<br/><br/>Buddy was very happy with his steak, as was I with the pizza. I'll be back to this place.

A Quick Drink. Ordered a Pear Cider, a Pieroni and a house red, which I then quickly upgraded to a Merlot. The Merlot was poured from the last dregs of a bottle (about 50-75 cl) and topped up with a fresh bottle. At the bar I sipped the wine, which was a little rough, just vinegary, with undertones of salad dressing. I requested, to satisfy my curiosity, a small sample in a fresh glass from the new bottle. I was refused, and given the old bottle from the bin to smell. Then I was told a bottle will last a couple of days without spoiling. I informed I wished to try because I had been sailing, and perhaps my palate was destroyed from the salt water, to which I was told that that was a strange way to try to be a cheap drunk, but each to their own.<br/><br/>Somewhat amusing in retrospect, but certainly worse service than I was expecting, and judging by the other reviews here I will not be returning for dinner either.

Unimpressed. Visited the pier with my husband last weekend for a light meal and drink, ordered the plater to share... Disappointed with the quality , deep fried dim sim, sea food stick deep fried with a bit of chorizo fried again , that it was like rubber. The location is great , and seems to have quite a fair of people dinning in, we thought it may be the place to eat ... Very wrong.

Nice surprise .... Popped into The Pier Hotel purely by accident on Saturday. Intended to have only a quick beverage while I waited for friends before we chose somewhere in the city to dine ... Started chatting to the friendly bar tender who convinced me into a quick snack of arancini to complement my wine selection. The Arancini was fantastic, generous size and a well balanced combination of flavours. Once my friends turned up, convinced by the arancini i asked if there was any room in the restaurant for us. After a short wait, they managed to find a table for us. The waitress who was looking after us was polite and well versed on the menu, we waited for nothing. Each of her recommendations was spot on and she evidently knew her wine as well. We stayed for three courses each and far too many wines, but found no need to travel on that evening. After dinner we retreated to the lounge and finished off the remainder of our final bottle by the fire. An in all a fantastic evening, service was faultless, wine selection sufficient and food fabulous. Will definitely be back again soon!

Great pizza. Went down to the beach on a warm, end of summer night and ended up catching the aroma of the wood fire oven from the pier. Wow it made us hungry straight away. Was welcomed by a very bubbly waiter or manager I think. <br/>Was seated next to the very busy kitchen ( a bit noisy but great atmosphere) well attended by the wait staff, drinks took a little time but we did order some great cocktails<br/>We did order a pizza, the ham and prosciutto and it tasted just as good as that aroma was<br/>We ended up having dessert as well, can I say it was the best baked cheese cake I have ever had!!! You must go just for this reason alone<br/>All up we were glad that we caught the aroma of the wood oven, we will return<br/>Only thing is they need to clean their windows so we can see that great view

$35 meal and left hungry. aWFUL. Not only was the service disgraceful but the meal which cost 35 had literally three pieces of vegetables. When I asked for more vegetables they not only serviced me with a bowl of uncooked broccoli they also charged me 10 dollars for them.<br/><br/>The waitress was completely clueless and the lamb shank felt like I was eating the left overs of a dogs bone. This is the second time I have eaten there and both times I left hungry. <br/><br/>Great looking venue but the food is very average and very over priced.

For a fine dining experience I have definitely had better. Service was good however food was average all around. I ordered one of the chef's choice dishes and they couldn't get it right. If it is a chef's choice don't you think it would be cooked to perfection?!? The salmon was very well over done and some of my friends ordered pasta where they commented it was quiet bland and had to add heaps of salt n pepper. Not what expected from such an affluent area.
Jacque
Inconsistent. I have eaten here 3 time now and today was the worst!!! they were not busy!!<br/>Soft shell crab tacos and white bate entrees were good but the prawn pizza was CRAP the whole this was too soggy to pick up to eat!!! and my lamb salad was ruined cos the did not rest the meat, the blood mixing through salad which spoilt the flavour of the whole thing!!<br/><br/>So it looks like it only worth going here when its busy!!!
Shaun Cook
Busy but worth it!. Hit the pier Sunday, as expect it was busy. Waited a while to be served but was acknowledged by staff while we were waiting which is rare to see. Over all great service, good food and summer vibe. Will be back over summer. Cheers guys!

Wouldn't bother taking a none drinker. These guys charge $9 for a large raspberry lemonade. Not family friendly. Walk down the road as there's plently of alternatives.

Great from start to end. Booking, welcome, table service all good. Food excellent and plenty of it. We had a table of 7 and everyone was equally happy. I highly recommend.
I Like Good Food...
Headed here with a group of 10 today - there was a tiny bit of confusion to begin, it had been organised with management leading up that we would have a set 2 course menu, but when we arrived we were told it wasn't available - after pulling out the iPhone & showing emails around we were finally good to go with the 2 course offer.<br/>Great choices, pumpkin soup, calamari or chicken salad for entree - we had our share of all around the table and everyone enjoyed. Choices for mains were rib eye steak, Atlantic salmon (delicious!!), gnocchi or 3 meat turkey and ham stack - again, we had our fair share around the table and every only had favorable comments. All up, fantastic 2-3 hours hanging out at The Pier - will def go back again.

Jewellz13. Fabulous spot with efficient staff - totally disappointing food.... in a city spoilt for choice I am kicking myself for giving them a second chance.<br/>The salad listed as "a Thai salad" does not represent a thai dish in any way shape or form - a ridiculously easy one to pull off too - was massacred by using rocket?? with basically just a few cherry tomates and cashews thrown in with a bland vinaigrette?? No hint of a chill or lime absolute rubbish for $26 bucks....they are taking the piss!!

Great Service and Food. We had dinner last week at The Pier.........As soon as I walked in I was welcomed and seated to the awaiting table.....drinks where ordered and bought over straight away......Menu was presented and again with in a few minutes the waitress came over to see if we where ready to order.....and answered our questions regarding the Menu .....and like to add she KNEW HER FOOD.....Our ordered was place and with in 10 min our dinner had arrived......which was delicious....... the Slow Baked Chicken Breast and The Fish of the Day......<br/>We also placed a late ordered for another person who was on there way.......Then unsure if we had asked for Chicken.....once again asked our attending waitress and without going back to check our order she replied to us "yes you ordered the Cesar Salad with Chicken."...which was great......!! We then asked to be moved to a another table while waiting for the other person to arrive.......we where moved and once again.....the waitress was great and attended to us in a very prompt manner.......The other meal arrived within a few minutes of the person arriving. Ending the evening with Coffee and Baked NY Cheese cake......ohh so yummy.....!!<br/>The Service was Great & Prompt and the Food was Fantastic.......And Our Waitress was Great.....

Nice Place...Food not worth the money. I really enjoyed the venue and the service was friendly but I found the food was very average and way over priced. Its in a good spot and would return but only for drinks not food.
DT
Overpriced!!!. For what we are paying and the quality that we received, is totally extremely expensive! Basically you are paying for a "fine dining" price but pub food of quality. In terms of service, nothing much to expect too.
Mike
Fantastic meal, good prices and great location. The Pier really has improved the quality of food and service over the past 6 months!
The Angry Owner
Good: location, service, atmosphere. Bad: food, drink, rip off.

My Favourite!. Had a great time at the Pier! Sun was shining, service was smooth, crab tagliatelle was devine and the wine went down well. Lovely place to eat and be... we will be back for sure!
Wayne
Can't say much about the food since the service was absolutely abismal. I would be deeply embarassed if I had any association with this establishment. Sat down and was ignored by the waittress even though we were the only seated table in the outside area. She continued to clean 3 other empty tables while ignoring us. She did not even attempt an apology as we got up and walked out after patiently waiting 15min. Since the management clearly have no interest in quality control and the staff are completely lacking in interest to serve patrons it would seem this establishment is doomed to fail. This would be most deserving in its current incarnation unless severe improvements are made.
Sugi
Bad service. Went there for lunch on New Years Eve and sat in the outdoor area at the front. Waitress completely ignored us even when we waved to her. She cleared empty tables and took orders from tables in front of us even though our table had dirty plates and glasses from the previous customers. We walked out after about 15 minutes and will not be going back there again.
