Review The Meatball And Wine Bar - Melbourne

John Howarth
The stingiest cheese and meat platter we have ever experienced - shocking. That piece of Brie would of cost about $1 and the whole board was worth about $10, being generous. I’m okay with a restaurant marking up 50% but this was a 300% ($36 for this) mark up and just awful. Never ever would I go here again.

Food was brilliant, service was impeccable and great atmosphere! Shout out to the servers who were spot on with cocktail and food recommendations, such a great little place. Definitely a hidden gem within Melbourne CBD, make sure you stop by.

As a vegetarian unsure about a meatball place but they have veg balls (quinoa etc) so looked forward to trying them. 5 of us shared garlic bread, parmesean drizzled with honey and warm olives. Balls (beef, lamp pork, fish, veg) are served with your choice of topping (Italian tomato, pesto, creamy mushroom, etc) on base of your choice (mashed potato, pasta, polenta etc). I had veg with tomato sauce and pasta. Others veg with pesto and polenta, beef with tomato and mashed potato, a spaghetti and meatballs and a large meatball on gnocchi. And we shared parmesean and pear salad, Mac 'n' cheese and roasted potato. The vegetarian food was delicious however I wasn't keen on the mac 'n' cheese and we didn't need the salad. Also garlic bread very good with actual garlic. However had to order 2 serves as only 3 pieces per serve. Then 3 of us squeezed in dessert, 1 coconut cookie/vanilla icecream sandwich, 1 sticky date pudding with salted caramel ice cream and butterscotch sauce (decadently delicious) and 1 vanilla ice cream. Also Proseccos, Italian reds, apple juices, cokes, flat whites and soy lattes. Unfortunately they had run out of decaf so risked it and had 2 full strength so let's see what time I fall asleep!! (Normal time thankfully). Venue was really comfortable and nice industrial style fit out however place was very very busy and only 2 guys who were run off their feet!! Took 10 minutes to be served, then 20 mins later told no decaf then 25 mins after that before finally got coffee. So yes nearly 1 hour to get coffee. However waitperson Jake was really good and was doing his best considering just him and one other. I was going to give 5 stars until I went to the bathroom!! OK first navigate stairs down that I'm sure wouldn't meet current building regulations, while the signs on the male and female doors were really really really tacky. And area definitely needs better lighting. So all this effort to make dining area gorgeous then blow it downstairs! Why do some places do this, spend lots of money making dining area gorgeous then neglect the bathrooms? Doesn't make sense and always detracts from the experience. But after 2 waters, 2 coffees and 2 Proseccos, well you get the picture!

This is my Melbourne casual dining go to whenever I’m in town, and it does not disappoint. Tonight’s edition was the traditional beef, Italian tomato sauce and risotto underneath. A hearty meal for a winters evening. And as always a buzzy atmosphere.

Absolute favourite place for a cozy dinner! Their truffle sauce gnocchi is to die for!! Be it a quick lunch between work or a romantic dinner it just fits right in for every occasion. Special mention to the amazing chef and sweet staff. Highly recommended!

Food was fantastic. The meatballs melt in your mouth. I’d go back for the pasta and the wine.

Cosy, rustic and intimate atmosphere! Freya our waitress was absolutely lovely and super helpful in her recommendations with the menu. Food was filling and delicious. A must go! 🙂

Balls and all, perfect place to dine drink wine and eat balls. The service was second to none , with the meatballs being some of the freshest and most tender I have ever eaten.

Wandered into this place looking for a quick bite before a show recently and was really happy with the delicious meatballs.  We had pork meatballs with mushroom sauce, plus a serve of mini meatballs to share.  Both meals were quite tasty and full of flavour. The service was quick and friendly and the price was very reasonable including the wine.

A true diamond in the rough. Hands down, if the inquisitive nature of your everyday person, Cast the question, "Where do i recommend?". There is without a hint of doubt, no competition. Through out the years I've been branded with a sobriquet "Meatball" as my better half proudly holds the moniker of "Mash". So it's only fitting that the Meatball & Wine bar is tantalizing in nature, Euphoric so to speak. The fine art of sniffing, Seeking the natural aromas of a young fresh delicacy is where my expertise lays. The holy nature of this establishment harmonizes the aromas of a Fresh, Perfectly aged Sauvignon Blanc, Thats elements transpire the scent of a freshly blossomed young flower;Iris bouquet in particular.<br/> <br/>10/10 As a Keen Sniffer and Taster i can't recommend better.

Absolutely delicious food with warm customer service. They initially forgot one of our drinks and compensated by giving us extra.<br/>This combines with an amazing atmosphere makes this a must on a gastronomic tour of Melbourne CBD

Will come back for:<br/>+ Lamb meatball with mushroom sauce<br/><br/>Ventured into this place for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious meat balls they served. I had the lamb meatballs with mushroom sauce, and these were moorish, flavoursome and well balanced. Service was also super quick and friendly. Really couldn’t ask for more. Prices were also reasonable for what you get. Will defensively be back for more sometime (this time with some colleagues).

Disappointing ☹️<br/>We waited 1 hour for our meal (we politely ask them to check on our meals 30 mins in as we had a gig to get to).<br/>Our meals had clearly been forgotten about but we were given some other excuse. The Spaghetti & Meatballs - sauce was tasteless like tomato purée almost. My sister ordered lamb with Italian Tomato Sauce - dish came out half warm half cold as if it’d been heated up in microwave, inedible actually.<br/>Also the toilets were smelly and awful. Meatballs was a balls up...hopefully they improve soon

Very disappointed with the food. I am really into this “meat ball” ideas and was served with 5 small plain balls with some beans. Doesn’t worth the value at all :(

We were off to a good start put ourselves down on the waiting list ans got a table within half an hour. We got the nice cosy booth. The menu was explained to us well buy unfortunately there was a little miscommunication between the staff we has ordered the cheese platter and drink and no one came around to take our main meal order. No one came to check on us and we had to end m<br/>Up leaving. Nice of them to cover the drinks

The three stars goes to the waitress there. We were at the door waiting for a while at lunch time where the restaurant was not busy, around 3 tables and we didn’t get a greeting when we walked in and we watch the waitress sat the customers before us down and started chatting away. After a while we finally got seated and had a look at the menu and was ready to order and she came over and I started ordering my food and she looked at me like I wasn’t speaking English. I pointed at the food I’d like to order and looked at her and she wasn’t even listening. After I pointed out to her that I would like to order the set and asked her the choices of sides and I would like something with greens in it, and she looked at me again like I wasn’t speaking English. I said greens, vegetables, and she said “market Veg” in a way that I felt made me feel dumb. Other than that the experience was ok and the waiter was nice. But I didn’t appreciate the attitude.

Having walked past the Flinders Lane restaurant on the golden mile so many times, finally decided to give this place a go due to the EatClub deal. Growing up, meatballs are a homely food and not something you’d go out to eat. The place had only two other tables at 2pm on a Sunday arvo. I went with the chicken meatballs on the risotto and because I couldn’t decide on a sauce, the helpful waitress gave me some creamy white sauce and the mushroom sauce - both on the side. The cream sauce lacked any oomph and wasn’t sinful as I hoped, rather more like a béchamel sauce. The mushroom sauce was damn good though, as was the toasted bread smothered in oil on the side. As far as the meatballs went, they were tasty, but when the restaurant is called ‘Meatballs’ you’d expect more than 3 medium sized meatballs on your plate?! Also ordered the ‘giant’ meatball with the gnocchi and a tomato sugo. The gnocchi was nice but the tomato sauce was just too pasty. It needed a bit of reduction, rather than just being a paste. We wanted dessert but of the two options (both include ice cream), they only had chocolate ice cream, so we ended up skipping. Overall, a nice meal but I’m glad we had the EatClub and I won’t be rushing back.

One of the best go-to 🐐 greatest of all time, Italian restaurant! For those who love their meatballs, this is a must-try! Great variety of meatballs, sauces and carbs! The classic combo of pasta +!tomato sauce + beef is amazing! 🍝 <br/><br/>P.S. Add 🌶 oil
Karen
UPDATE 14/9. Came again with friends ordered the giant meatball dish with gnocchi that waste like eating fluffy pillows and ate divine. Also spaghetti meatballs are amazing. I think they just do their regular dishes best.<br/><br/>Use to come here all the time and it had the best spaghetti meatballs.<br/>This time I went with friends for lunch on saturday afternoon and the vibe is much more quiet and relaxed than lunch.<br/>The standard meals were still excellent and garlic bread was great (extra $4 for 3 large slices) however my special the veal and pork meatball with rigatoni was tad too salty for me. So maybe stick to the standard dishes. I will still probably go back though.<br/><br/>

This classic restaurant located along the busy end of flinders lane and serves up the most delicious meatballs.. we came here on a Friday night for a quick meal and was surprised by their quality and service..<br/>We had the cheese and meat platter to start and the platter was to die for.. the portion was generous and the options were plenty, there was 3 different types of cured meats as well as 3 types of cheese, dried fruits, bread and walnuts..<br/>We were full almost by the end of the starter.. for mains we shared a plate of spaghetti meatballs.. and the sauce was super tasty.. the meatballs were also super delicious.. <br/>we paired our meal with wine and it was just a perfect night out..

It was so cold and wintry these days I just wanted to have carbs carbs and more carbs! I was so Hangry by 11:30 that I grabbed my lunch buddy and head over to Meatball And Wine bar for a quick lunch. <br/><br/>The place smelt a bit weird and stale cos we are the only table there. But it was fine when the food came along. <br/><br/>Had their pork and veal meatballs special for $26. Although the food was quite delicious, it was a small portion for $26. I wish there was more pasta, and probably $20 would be more reasonable

A great venue, fab vibe. Would be great to see some new items on the menu - but nevertheless I always go back as it's always busy and the staff are lovely!

Let's talk about balls. I mean, meatballs. Yes I have the maturity of a 10-year-old. <br/><br/>So, what makes for some great meatballs? They can’t be too dry, and have to be the perfect size with a good amount of garlic and herbs thrown into the mix. When done right, although simple, it’s what comfort food is all about.

Been here previously and the food was always tasty and lovely. Service was always great, the place can get a bit noisy but that was never an issue.<br/><br/>Most recent visit however was horrible. Friend and I ordered the meatball dishes yes it was a bit bland and lacked seasoning but thats okay. When it came to paying, the waiter overlooked our discount voucher we had by putting in the wrong discount. People make mistakes, thats fine so we kindly showed him that what he entered was wrong by giving the bill back to him. A female staff member walks over to ask the waiter who processed our bill incorrectly what was wrong. He tells her and then she says..."wow like that makes a huuugggeee difference" ... and laughed.<br/><br/>My friend heard it as she said it right in front of us and my friend felt so upset and uncomfortable with how your female staff made that sarcastic comment.<br/><br/>Maybe you should train your staff to comment on customers when they are NOT in front of the customers. I was extremely disappointed in the way your staff dealt with their mistake.<br/><br/>It definitely ruined my night as I told my friend how great the food and service was (previously), and then to be treated like that at the end of our night... disappointing.<br/><br/>
Good Food Good Mood
We were invited to Meatball Wine Bar last night, somewhere I’ve never been before despite its rampant popularity because I’ve traditionally never been the greatest fan of meatballs. After this visit however I am sincerely converted. <br/><br/>We began with two cocktails both of which were delightful concoctions. We then moved on to the beef carpaccio which was simply spectacular. I really enjoyed the flavours with the dressing on there and adding a squeeze of lemon. The radicchio gave it a nice crunch too.<br/><br/>We tried the special which was a trio of sliders comprised of crumbed veal parmigiana with eggplant- absolutely delicious. We then did diy meatball thing meant meant choose your ball, sauce and base. We went for beef which is basically 100% pure Angus beef (and you can tell) in the red sauce which is a rich Italian robust tomatoey delight, on a base of potato smash. <br/><br/>I really enjoyed the textural bite of having a chunky style mash and the beautiful sauce bleeding into the tomato was uber yummy. Our final dish was the penne with mini chicken meatballs, basil pesto and bocconcini. This style dish is right up my alley and the meatballs themselves were quite juicy.<br/><br/>We finished the meal with a sticky date pudding and another diy, the ice cream sandwich. The sticky date was very tasty, I just wish there had been more of it. The ice cream cookie sandwich I chose a chocolate cookie and salted caramel ice cream but they had run out of chocolate so I switched to coconut. Unfortunately the ice cream was very icy so this dish was quite disappointing but generally very impressive aside from that blip

Love the mix and match aspect of this place! You can choose a type of meatball, sauce and a base and combine into a meal. I got chicken meatballs (parmesan, pistachios, muscatels), with a white sauce on roasted veggies (mainly potato). The meatballs were glorious and the veggie option was really good for when you’re not up for a big bowl of pasta. The whole meal was very artisanal and definitely a step up from your mum’s homemade meatballs.

I had a lovely Friday night dinner here with a group of friends. Pork meatballs with pesto green sauce were fantastic. The sauce went really well with the tender pork and the pappardelle. Venue was packed and with the loud music, we ended up yelling to each other across the table. Service could be improved, with staff remembering your order correctly will be a good start. My order first came with meatballs resting on a bed of mashed potatoes. When I told the girl that i didn’t order meatballs with mashed potatoes, she said her eyesight wasn’t that good so she accidentally placed the wrong order. No sorry nor she offered to change it. In the end I asked her if she could please change it to pasta. Which she did.

MEATY BALLS!<br/>I love this place, I come here often before a show at cherry bar and I'm never disappointed. The food is delicious and there's a nice selection of balls and things to put them on! The staff are lovely and there is always excellent music playing.<br/>Will be back again and again.

Love the vibe and the food. The meatball pasta is so simple yet so delicious, really feels like good comfort food. The cheese and charcuterie board is a must have too whenever I’m there.

Tried one of the infamous restaurant on Flinders Lane. The place is quite small with good atmosphere. Service is very attentive. <br/><br/>We ordered chicken balls sliders with white sauce, pork balls house pasta with tomato sauce and giant pork and veal meatballs. <br/><br/>Personally, I like the pork ball the best but prefer chicken balls texture which is more bouncy and texturised. Overall is a good experience.<br/><br/>Will I be back?? Probably

Nice restaurant. The food is good and the price is reasonable. The portion are generous and well presented. Drinks were served fast and chill.

I had the traditionally spaghetti with meat balls. Very very plain, nothing special. Tomato sauce was sour, meatballs were dry. The 2 pieces of garlic bread was so hard it was difficult to chew at all.<br/><br/>My friend had the meatballs and all, which was 3 meatballs, tomato sauce and house pasta. Pasta was very very dry, not enough sauce, the 3 meat balls looked pitiful in a large plate of pasta. The texture of the meatball was strange, it fell apart and was rather mushy.<br/><br/>We were seated against the wall, which was rather cramped and uncomfortable. There was nowhere to put our bags.

Came here for work lunch. you get a choice of meatballs, sauce and base. I chose the pork meatball with red sauce and house pasta. The meat balls were tasty but it lacked sauce and the pasta was a bit too salty.

Great food with the service to back it up. Nice little venue with reasonably priced extremely tasty food. Will definitely be going back again.

A very carb dense meal at the Meatball and Wine Bar<br/>Ordered:<br/>🌭 [entree] Grilled sausage: Served with focaccia ($8.00)<br/>🍝 Spaghetti and Meatballs: Their version of the classic dish served with garlic bread ($26.00)<br/>🥔 Super MB Potato Smash: Creamy and rustic potatoes ($10)<br/><br/>Review:<br/>Grilled sausages were delicious, and the sauce it came in was very complementary and elevated the dish very well.<br/><br/>I'm picky with my pasta dishes - I don't eat them often and I prefer my meat:noodle ratios to be on point.<br/>I felt like there was too much spaghetti for the number of meatballs, and the tomato sauce wasn't doing much for me either. Felt like a very lacklustre dish, even though the meatballs had an interesting fragrant herb twist to it.<br/><br/>Creamy mash potato was absolutely awesome! A few chunks of potato skin in there for texture, it was mouth watering and was a great side to accompany us during our dinner.<br/><br/>My mate and I were unable to finish our food... which was great since the dinner was definitely within budget (

What a delightful little place this is. I took a few friends who've never been here before and boy they weren't disappointed. It's very small, but that just lends itself to great personalised service. We started by ordering the beef carrpaccio and bottle of merlot blend. Then followed by individually ordering our own meatball mains. There were just faces of amazed as to how delicious, flavoursome and moist the balls were. get a little entree surprise and the main meals were amazing.<br/>The service from Jack especially was supurb. He made you feel right at home the moment you step in. We can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.
Leila
Good meatballs. Good wine. Perfect as a date night restaurant, or even for a cheeky meal by yourself. Apart from the food, I really liked the ambience. Lovely feel to it.

Ermigod. Offering meatballs and wine, it was very unlikely that I would be disappointed by the Meatball & Wine Bar on Flinders Lane in Melbourne’s CBD. And I wasn’t. The menu is uncomplicated and appealing. We both decided to do the choose-your-own option, so one of us chose pork and the other beef, one of us chose a white sauce and the other a tomato sauce, and as a base, creamy polenta and the daily vegetables (market special).
The Wandering Reviewer
Nice place to come for drinks beer especially if you are a carnivore. Good selection of sliders and of course meatballs. Not too pricy. <br/>Service is good. Toilets weren’t great - come on guys flush and put the seat down. <br/>Not really wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking - it’s Melbourne so good luck.

Haven't been here in years and I just so happened to order the exact same thing as I did last time (judging from an older photo). The balls weren't dry and the texture of the balls felt like fresh pork mince. The pork meat balls (fennel, sage and orange) were topped with a creamy white sauce which was a great combination of flavorful and subtle. Needed a bit more sauce however. Unfortunately the meatballs had to carry the dish as my beans were underseasoned and bland, so much so I had to crack salt and pepper onto them.<br/><br/>There were a couple hiccups with service but we are a forgiving bunch and understand stuff gets lost in translation along the way and some waiters/waitresses are still learning the ropes. Most importantly though they acknowledged this a couple of times. Expensive? Depends on how you see it. For a bowl of pasta it ain't too bad.<br/>

I have been to Meatball & Wine Bar at both Flinders Lane in the CBD and Swan Street in Richmond. <br/>On all of my visits I have been happy with the meal and service I’ve received. <br/>On my most recent trip to Flinders Lane I got pork meatballs with red sauce, served on house pasta with a side of garlic bread. It was delicious, the pasta was cooked beautifully and the pork meatballs were juicy and full of flavour. <br/>The garlic bread is abit crisp/crunchy at times where I prefer bread to be a bit softer, but the flavour is still nice.

Overall the experience fell a step or two below my expectations. As typical with eateries in the Melbourne CBD the ambience is classy and the décor is trendy. It was slightly loud for my personal liking but others may not find this a problem.<br/><br/>The Entrée of warm bread that was unfortunately slightly stale was served with an extremely large dish (or should I say pot) of olive oil and balsamic that appeared more comical than practical. For the price I paid I was hoping for more than 3 average sized meatballs (in no way large). The portion of pasta was decent but the amount of sauce was barely adequate. The pasta also had a few cold spots. The meatballs themselves were excellent, tender, and very flavorful.<br/><br/>Service-wise ranged from basic politeness without a smile to very helpful from two different staff. The sheer range of restaurants in the area makes it hard to want to return.

One of my best finds through Zomato. This quaint restaurant has such a calming vibe & feel. I tried their assortment of meat balls (Beef, Pork & Chicken) which came with three sauces. I also ordered for mash potatoes & a glass of Pinot grigio. <br/><br/>Their proportions are huge. The meatball was tender & juicy went quite well with the sauces & of course wine. <br/><br/>It's a perfect restaurant for a Date night.
Kiffdcosta
Was actually so surprised how good this place was! I didn’t expect much as it was ‘just meatballs’ that I thought we were getting. We got the cheese board with honey & some meatballs & was so impressed at how good it was. Defs recommended for either pre dinner to share (what I had that day) or a full meal
Daniel McManus
Food: Tried pork w/pesto and beef w/tomato sauce meatballs with my partner and we both loved them. High quality food at a decent price. Herb bread was amazing, definitely recommend to add to the meal. <br/>Service: Staff are friendly, polite, knowledgeable, quick and best of all, NOT over the top. Probably the best standard service I've had. <br/>Ambience: Cute little venue. Not a lot of space but definitely enough without feeling cramped.
Vanessa
Came here with my friends for a casual dining experience. The dim lighting set a warm and romantic atmosphere, but the noise level was off the charts (We had to shout to hear each other). Anyway, I loved the DIY meatball dishes… they were simply divine! There’s no reservations for small groups but there is a waiting list if it’s packed inside.
Yasmin T
Lovely date night spot, tucked into Flinders Lane and compete with dimmed candle light. We both enjoyed the highly customisable menu, which allowed us to stick to our respective diets. Both dishes were amazing and generously portioned. Will be back again!

FABULOUS MEAL OUT - The meatballs were amazing alongside the friendly and efficient staff.<br/>Highly recommend this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!            Great inner city location.

Well I was gonna give a 3 but gave 5 coz I don’t think some of the review below reflects the food here.<br/>Came here with my partner on a quiet night, had the Beef Carpaccio on sharing, Giant Ball (me) and spaghetti meatball (my wife). Food was delicious and very pleasant with big portions, my wife couldn’t finish her spaghetti..<br/>Although on the other hand we found that the service was really poor as they were all very busy talking to each other and literally so the guy who took our orders rolling a cigarette at the bar in front of all customers, so don’t know what the whing about food is about..meeeh! <br/><br/>Food *****<br/>Service ..maybe next time!
Christina Mathiasz
Very underwhelmed with this place. Whilst the meals look very pretty and appetizing, the flavour wasn't there. The gnocchi giant meatball dish had very little gnocchi on the dish and the meatball was flavourless. Fish meatball pasta with recommended pesto sauce, did not work well. Garlic bread was cold and tough. On the plus side, service was excellent.

Dropped by for a meal before we head for a play in CBD. Dim lighting for a romantic ambience. Delicious meatballs that’s worth a try! Only wished they gave us more😀

First time here on Saturday night.... we had the $45 set menu which was awesome... great entree , delicious shared plates for mains and an ice cream sandwich for dessert... staff were friendly and service was great... only negative thing for management is that the toilets are pretty disgusting out back in the laneway... while I appreciate that this is a laneway shared by other business , the smell and general appearance coming from the toilets was really bad... surely you guys could do more to make these facilities less offensive... other than that really enjoyed the food and night out
Mouth On A Mission
Arguably Melbourne's best date night restaurant at a reasonable price. <br/>Meatballs is nestled away in a lovers nest amongst Flinders Lanes shops and restaurants and yet remains a romantic and wonderful setting. Old exposed bricks draped in a warm yet dim light gives Meatballs one of Melbourne's most wonderfully intimate atmospheres. <br/><br/>Not only is the atmosphere amazing but the food stands on equally exceptional footing. Never having been a huge fan of meatballs before, my night here converted me entirely to a fervent lover of them. Offering every choice of meatball, sauce and pasta or other delicious carbs for the meatballs to sit, meatballs is a must have for anyone with taste buds or trying to impress a fellow foodie.

Came here with a group of friends and had the group set menu, which is comprised of their “best dishes”. <br/><br/>I’m disappointed. I don’t get what the hype is about. food took ages to come, and everything served was... meh. The only dish worth mentioning was their fish meatballs, which was really flavourful and moist. The fennel salad remained untouched because the fennel is so overpowering and you taste nothing else except for a hint of slaw. The entire set menu consisted of jus types of meatballs ALL served with potato mash or some sort of blended sauce. The first dish tasted good, then the next 5 dishes started tasting the same, with the same sort of flavours and textures. It soon felt like everything was just....mush. Nothing blew us away either. <br/><br/>The desserts that came with the group menu were also very disappointing. It’s ice cream wedged between cookies, you can’t go wrong with that right? WRONG. The cookies were rock hard and SO sweet we couldn’t even finish half of it, and the ice cream texture was gritty and.....ugh. <br/><br/>I just think this place is overrated. Unless you can’t eat hard food for some reason..I wouldn’t suggest this place.

From the time you walk in you feel relaxed, the ambience is romantic with dimly lit candles. Service is attentive and quick! The chef was happy to make my meatballs without pork. Both dishes were very pleasant. Would be back for straight down the line pasta & meatballs! Yummy!

Delicious food and big portions!<br/>The white creamy sauce with the beef meatballs is a must have; everything is such great quality.<br/>The interior is quite dark which is neither good or bad. Great music, great staff and great vibes.<br/>The only fault: a bit expensive. After eating there i can understand why, but if your eating on a budget i’d stay clear.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
We tried this place for the first time today. The restaurant Is really dark inside and the space between the tables are really small, I personally don’t like it much. <br/><br/>But the food and beer were really good , I wish they have more varieties of menu for us to choose.<br/><br/>

Ordered the special for the night that was Tender Beef Balls with Mozzarella on Rosemary Smash & creamy red sauce. Everything was great, rich hearty meal that left me satisfied 😊

On a Thursday night, we walked in to Meatball in the city for dinner. It wasn’t a planned dinner venue so we didn’t make any reservation but we wanted something near Flinders lane and without any waiting list or long queue like their neighbour Chin Chin! We didn’t have to wait and happy to be seated by the bar. It was a good pick that night because we really enjoyed the food which was really high quality and cooked well. The service was also friendly and attentive. We chose the air dried beef wagyu as entree, beef balls with Italian tomatoes sauce and polenta for the base of the meatballs. We also ordered the pulled pork and aioli salads but was later told by the waitress who took our order that salads are not available after 4 pm! It wasn’t really her fault as it was on noted on the menu as well but I guess the print was too small. We substituted the salads with the sliders and chose the pork balls with green pesto salsa verde sauce. The pork balls were simply divine!! It will be nice to have salads option available for dinner service though. Highly recommend this place for casual dining experience with great quality food.

Too expensive. Disgusting food not worth it. Rubbish. <br/><br/>Service was ok. Food, rubbish. Don’t call them as a restaurant. McDonald has better taste !!!!! LOL
Elizabeth Lea
Really awesome experience and the menu is really fun, especially if you have a group. Way too overpriced for what it is, however. The meatballs are pretty average, and the servings aren't too generous considering how much you're paying.

👍🏽: Delicious food!!! 😋My partner and I both ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs w/ garlic bread 🍝. Great size, great taste and very filling. Staff were knowledgeable and prompt. <br/><br/>👎🏽: Menu was difficult to decipher and required staff assistance to understand 😖. And the “floral and fruity” Pinot was awful. I couldn’t have more than two mouthfuls😐<br/><br/>Overall I enjoyed the meal and general decor.<br/>Highly recommend 🤗<br/>

Good afternoon for chill and enjoy some good food and drinks with friends as the restaurant is not really crowded in early afternoon.<br/>Disappointed by their customer service from those two girls serving us..rude and unprofessional!
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: I have been here a couple of times and I love the vibes of this place, especially on a Thursday or a Friday night. <br/><br/>🍩Lizzie enjoyed: The dish worth ordering is definitely the mash potato option when getting the DIY Meatballs dish. The side of mushrooms are also delicious! My gnocchi with a giant meatball dish was also superb I wanted more!! <br/><br/>🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: Unfortunately my gnocchi dish sauce had too much tomato/too acidic and probably needed more gnocchi or cheese or carbs to balance the sauce out. <br/><br/>🥇Lizzie rates overall: A great place for a catch up over pasta meatballs and wine.

Never coming back. Maybe great if desperate but if looking for a nice great place with good service maybe not. $26 pasta and huge portion (not really good for when alone) and I absolutely hate throwing away food so asked for takeaway box and was told can’t because of the meat. Finished the meat instead and they were still unwilling to until paying at the counter. Attached picture of leftover food. Why would you throw something perfectly edible and good to the bin instead of letting someone take it home and eat it ? Think restaurants should rethink their priorities.

I had a dinner with my friend last wednesday dec 27 ar night in this place. We entered the restaurant without anyone accomodating us, and there is this lady who sat us down making me dissapointed already. And then we took our order I had beef meatballs with pesto salsa verde and mashed potatoes. And the MASHED POTATOES??! I like the flavors of my food but its a mash potatoes why does it have Big CHUNKS on it? And still a little bit undercooked making it annoying to eat. Im a chef too but I am a normal person when eating out but its basic you know MASHED POTATOES. MASHED!! I am more fussy with customer service because no matter what the food you’ve had when you give smiles and warmth to customers they will feel good when they go out to that door and looking forward to coming back. But its just dissapointing these front staff shouldn’t think at work about how good they are and shows in their aura to the customers thats what I always tell my staffs. but how they make customer happy. But theres this guy who accomodated us well with this smile. Well I want to give this feedback so they know how their customers feel and what they’re gonna do about it. So for me, the customer service i’ll give 2.4 below average and the food is 2.6 if the mashed potato was done the right way I would say coming back and have it as my comfort food. Hope when I come back and give a chance to this restaurant I will have things differently.

Awesome place. My go to place for weekday dinners. Beef, cream sauce and potato smash is all time favourite! Service is great too. If I have to be constructive, it is a little too dark in the room.

For starters we ordered the parmessan cheese with honey served with foccacia. This was a little strange and random. You get a slice of foccacia honey on the side and a big slab of parmessan. I didn't think it worked well together. The sliders were good. We ordered one pork meatball, one beef meatball and one fish meatball. The beef one is the best out of the three. They have a great list of wine to compliment your dishes. This is a great place to catch up with friends, easy food but delicious and great wine.

We came as a group and had the $55 per head meal. The cheese and cold meats boards were great, particularly the prosciutto and Wagyu bresaola. The range of salads and meatballs were pretty good.<br/><br/>What I disliked the most were the fish balls and ice cream sandwich dessert. Perhaps I had the Asian style bouncy fish balls in mind but the fish balls served broke apart as soon as my fork went in. They were very crumbly, so I found the texture quite unappetising. <br/><br/>As for the ice cream sandwiches, they were hard pick up without having the ice cream ooze out, let alone be able to eat them like sandwiches! The cookies were very hard and failed on taste. I ended up leaving most of the cookies. The ice cream was just well, ice cream. Nothing to rave about.<br/><br/>It's unlikely I'll come back.<br/><br/>

We stumbled across this restaurant while looking for dinner the other night and highly recommend it.  Delicious food and wine, fantastic service - and so many ways to eat meatballs!

Came here with my partner last Friday night. Now we got advised this restaurants by friends for a perfect date night with good food and great wine. Left the place very happy! <br/>We had olives and cheese and honey with muscatels as starters, spaghetti meatball and pizza pie as mains dishes, all to share. Both agreed that the pizza pie was the highlight of the night! As drinks couldn't go wrong with the primitivo..

The service was really fast! When I mean fast I mean we got our dishes before our drinks that we were planning to enjoy BEFORE eating! OK, the food was alright but we felt they where trying to kick us out as soon as possible so they can seat more people as it was in the rush hour on a Friday night. Bad on you guys !!! Maybe less but happy customers will get you better results

Wonderful food! Came here quiet late with friends. We had the ball special, the house pasta and a side salad, mmm delicious! <br/>Service was slightly below expectations but definetly will be back for some more of their food and wines!

Meatballs are nice but overall the dishes are way overpriced for the cost of what you’re getting. I had a vegetable salad which was below average. A few bland potatoes and some mixed lettuce. Can’t believe a chef actually thought this up.

Really like this place, great meatballs and accompaniments and good service too. What I like most is that, in spite of being fully booked and people waiting for a table to become available, they never rush you when you've finished your meal. Most places are all too happy to slap the bill on the table when you're done so you get make way for the next lot. Not at Meatball and wine bar. Quality service!

Had the beef balls with pasta the last time I was here. Food was alright. The meatballs were really yummy! My partner had the pork meatballs which were quite flavourful too. Service wasn't amazing from what I remember and the place is mostly crowded. I prefer to sit outside as it tends to get really loud inside the restaurant. Overall, I would consider this place a good dinner place for a weekday date night.

Delicious but over priced! I always order the pork, green and polenta meatballs and it's so delicious but you should get more than 3 meatballs!
Jesse Stratford
Very impressed by their customer service attitude. My wife ordered meatballs that turned out to contain cheese, which she can’t have. It wasn’t mentioned on the menu, but we didn’t ask either so not really their fault. To make up for it they gave us our meal on the house. That’s a real customer service attitude!

Hanging out with friends over dinner is a big part of socializing. We all lead pretty busy and exhausting lives so catching up once a month or so allows us to share our experiences and enjoy each others company. It is especially good when done over a few drinks. However, with a Coeliac in the mix, it does make things a little complicated. To solve this I send a list of places to the group that I’ve checked over and then they pick somewhere. Back in August, they picked The Meatball and Wine Bar on Flinders Lane.

Amazing food ! Went for a Saturday lunch and got a table straight away. I got the pork balls with tomato sauce and gluten free pasta! I then covered it in chilli oil! Was amazing ! Will be back ! <br/><br/>

We came for a drink and a couple of bits to eat. Enjoyed both food and drink. Menu is a nightmare to read when you’re hungry and have the attention span of a goldfish. Staff were ok.

Before I bore you with my opinion of this restaurant, in the interests of transparency and disclosure, I should note that mince was a large part of a childhood food trauma of mine. The image of overcooked grey granules of beef mince between frozen peas, carrots and corn, or perhaps floating in some kind of non-descript sauce, is seared into my pre-adolescent memory. Various family members would patrol the consumption of this food, until it was entirely consumed. ‘‘A McDonald’s burger is mince you know - and you’re all over that like a fat kid on a cupcake!” was a common refrain. Oh the memories, the memories.<br/><br/>Fast forward several decades and I found myself voluntarily confronting my food aversion following a recent invitation to the Meatball and Wine Co. I was intrigued as I have often wondered about meatball restaurants in general, often exuding elegance in their ambiance, perhaps compensating for the unsophistication of their main fare.<br/><br/>On arrival there was much consternation between the members of our group as to what the best meatball/sauce/carbohydrate combination would be - I went for pork meatballs with pesto salsa verde and polenta, which was pretty good. Consensus around the table that the pork meatballs were the most delicious and polenta was also popular. <br/><br/>All in all it was a reasonable and inexpensive meal – the place had a great busy vibe and the service was very attentive.

Absolutely amazing, and will be back again! My partner got spaghetti with meatballs, and i had a trio of meatballs with red sauce on potato smash - have to say we both thought that trio of meatballs was a better option (bigger meatballs and fluffier in texture). Portions are really good in size, and reasonably priced! The bartender did a fantastic job with describing us few wines to go with our meals.<br/>If you want a hearty meal-this is a place to visit!

Melbourne Food Journey
Say hello to the BEST meatballs in Melbourne, from the Meatball and Wine Bar! Choose your ball, your sauce and your base and get ready to feast. I went with the melt-in-your-mouth pork meatballs, a red tomato sauce and the most creamy potato mash ever. And for a place based solely around meatballs, they have an awesome menu with a lot of variety- like the refreshing orange and fennel salad we shared and some hearty, wholesome dessert! <br/>
Tardar Sauce
We came here Saturday lunchtime without a booking and got a table straight away. We had the meat and cheese board, the mini meatballs with 3 sauces and coffees. Total $ 76. I liked the meatballs and the cheese board was good, it just needed 1 stronger cheese and more pickled vegetables :)<br/>The staff are friendly. Bit cold going to the outdoor toilet underneath the stairs. Overall we had a great time and would not hesitate in returning.

Ordered pork meatball with white sauce sitting on potato smash, it was awesome. Plate was big so I didn't finish. Service was good. Music was not loud. Love the dim light.
Whats On The Grill?
Casual city meatball & wine bar. I found the menu slightly messy and confusing but you can work it out. Had the beef balls with red sauce & polenta as well as fish balls with green sauce & cannellini beans. Food was good but slightly overpriced and the service was casual.

I've been to this restaurant twice and I've always left satisfied! Pricing is not too expensive and the dimly lit ambience makes it perfect for a date or with close friends.<br/><br/>I visited this restaurant on a Wednesday night and it was relatively packed inside. My partner and I ordered the grilled sausage as an entree and it was great. For the mains, I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs whereas my partner got the pasta special. I thought these tasted quite nice but there was nothing spectacular about it.<br/><br/>Overall, I enjoyed my time here and the waitress who served us was lovely. I would come here again...but I'm not in any rush.

Good meatballs, very good pasta. Service was ok. The place was packed so I suggest you make reservations if you're planning on having dinner there. <br/><br/>I ordered the beef meatballs with red sauce on their pasta of the day.

I was a bit sceptical of dining out just for meatballs but this place does them so well! I had the beef meatballs with the tomato sauce and mashed potato. The flavour combo was delicious, and adding the chilli oil makes it an even better experience. The meatballs were so flavourful and filling. I also recommend the dessert cookie sandwich to share - you can choose two different cookies and an ice cream. I had the pistachio & meringue and chocolate cookie sandwiched with their homemade salted caramel ice cream and it was to die for! Service was efficient, and nice ambiance.

The service is good - food was bad 🙅🏼<br/><br/>We ordered chicken meatballs with red sauce on pappardelle and fish meatballs with red sauce on cannelloni beans and garlic bread.<br/><br/>The beans had to be sent back as they were hard and undercooked so that left me eating alone -- pet peeve -- I could tell the new dish would take a while when we got sent out a platter with bread, honey, raisins and a piece of cheese ?? 🤔<br/><br/>I've been here once before and are a special they had on- meatballs with Mac and cheese, was really delicious.... this time I felt like it was a build a meal 😕 choose your meat, choose your sauce, choose your side.<br/><br/>Which left me with 4 chicken meatballs which were too soft and under flavoured with a red sauce which was far too sweet/acidic, on top of stodgy pappardelle. The pasta and sauce hadn't been combined in the pan so some pasta was just plain pasta on the plate ?? Where is the love?<br/><br/>When my partner ordered the fish meatballs we questioned whether the dill would be over powering but went for it anyway. Turns out the dill is actually all you can taste - not the fish. Second time round the beans were softer but now under the same red sauce and paired with dill meatballs.<br/><br/>We left 2 nearly full plates. Total bill came to $75 😒 don't have anything else to say. I get they are busy. I think the if the red sauce was better seasoned and combined with the pasta and the dill was a quarter of what it was I wouldn't be writing this.

Love this place! Always leaves feeling full and happy. My favourite is the mash with white sauce. The Italian bread is a must and their wine list is also very good.

We had heard good things about Meatball & Wine Bar (Flinders) and we thought we would give it a go!<br/><br/>For food, we had spaghetti and meatballs, as well as the chicken meatball with cream sauce on the house pasta. Meatballs, themselves, were great and really brought unique flavours. The cream sauce, however, was bland with no ounce of complexity and needed a good dust of salt. The spaghetti and meatballs were served with garlic bread - which was soaked in oil (as you tear the bread the oil literally drips off it). The red sauce reminded me of a tomato pureé you can get in a can, coupled with al denté pasta. Overall cheapened what could have been a fantastic meal. Fox was underwhelmed considering.<br/><br/>Service was to the point, quick and informative. Cannot fault them in any particular way, just stock standard here.<br/><br/>Venue oozed style, but was lacking in practicality. Music that was a notch too high, and minimal to no lighting which didnt really let me see the food. Overall presented well however.<br/><br/>Overall we were expecting a bit more from Meatball & Wine Bar. The total came to approx $70 and came out feeling pretty dissapointed for flinders lane. Will probably not be returning to this one.<br/><br/>Overall 3 out of 5.<br/>

Ordered the pork balls and polenta with the pesto sauce. Really simple and flavourful. Only feeling was that it was a bit expensive for the amount you got. <br/><br/>Lovely warm setting, perfect for winter

My partner and I love coming here. This our go to restaurant. Never a let down and always a recommendation to our friends and family! Can't wait to go again.

Enjoyable mood setting with the misses, reasonably priced if you looking for a quality night out, grab ya self some meat balls cause ya know you'll be going balls deep inside out of that
Uvika Sahni
Cheese & meat board came out to be a better pick over meatball sliders surprisingly. The board had different flavours to offer, perfect to go with the drinks for 2. Have to try meatballs again when they can serve the main course. <br/>A must visit place though.<br/><br/>Ambience - 3.5/5<br/>Hospitality - 4<br/>Food - 4

Well done guys nothing turn me on like a good serve off meat balls and a great glass off wine and conversation keep up the great work ,a she'll be back soon

LIT!: oh wow I've been meaning to go here and boy did it serve. I chose the beef balls, pesto sauce with creamy polenta. My boyfriend chose pork ball, white sauce and potato mash. Verdict was that pork balls with white sauce and creamy polenta would have been the best combination. Both dishes were extremely filling that we were close to falling into a food coma. <br/><br/>NOT SO LIT: the extra herb bread was okay.
Amarinda Long
Been here a lot as it is always lovely and something different. Last time I went I had the chicken meatball salad (pictured), but do try whatever is on the specials as it is always good! The polenta is just perfect too.

Great food, even better wine. But I'm not going to lie, when your paying that kind of money you expect to be provided with exceptional service. Not sure if it was a bad night but we have to ask for drinks 3 times, to order & no one seemed to know what they were doing. Unfortunately I won't be returning.
