Review Sakura Kaiten - Melbourne

Aaron Xu
We were loyal customers for years, love their Squid Nigri to death. Came in today with my missus again, we ordered several dishes from the tablet as what we normally do. To my surprise, the Grill Miso Butter fish came with a very small portion of flesh, like 2 pieces of prawn cutlet. Also no taste of Miso whatsoever but a hint of spicy taste. We spoke to the waitress who was lovely enough to pass the message to kitchen. However the answer from kitchen was, that is what it is meant to be. I was infuriated, I know my taste, and I ordered that dishes everytime we came in for a feed. I will still come back, as the other dishes were still at good standard. But that butterfish and the attitude from kitchen staff was a disappointment.

In this cramped setting, enjoy a variety of fresh sushi, sashimi and cooked dishes passing by on the sushi train. Don't see what you want or someone took that last plate? Order from the tablet at each table and your dish will speed over on the special train line. Service is friendly and very attentive - teaspoons auto-magically appear when you pick up a dessert dish. Some dishes are a bit pricey but there's good variety to ensure there's something for everyone.

Excellent level sushi! It is almost the next best thing to omakase sushi. Sakura Kaiten is a gem composed of an all Japanese team hidden inside Melbourne CBD. The way the raw ingredients are selected is just impeccable. How every piece is cut and made is clearly a product of attention to detail. The all Japanese staff are polite, soft spoken but very knowledgeable of their products. The venue is small enough to attend to a determined number of patrons to ensure quality control. When in Melbourne, Sakura Kaiten is a must try for every person who has an affinity for eating sushi.

Insta: melbfoodie_mark YT: MelbFoodieMark ** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne! - Sakura Kaiten has been on my list for being one of the best sushi joints in Melbourne but my recent visit was quite average. Went in with high expectation as usual but quality wasn't as great as before (some of the sashimi didn't taste fresh). It was still decent overall but they can definitely do better. My favourites were scallop nigiri and grilled salmon nigiri. Both were tasty and flavourful.

The best sushi place in Melbourne. It's not like Chinese sushi place this is the real sushi place. You can order your sushi manually or you can pick it up from sushi train. Presentation, taste, freshness, wide range and price is just perfectly right. Didn't give 5 stars due to there are not much space next to other tables. Sushi here will just blow your mind if you haven't tried already.

Authentic sushi, without a doubt. Its not cheap but you know you're paying for the high quality dishes! Service is great, restaurant is a quaint little store that can't house a lot of people so better for smaller sized groups.

Relatively expensive considering other sushi trains. The sushi was not outstanding, no freshness, rice was bland, the salad tasteless, the okonomiyaki was flavourless, the fried tempura was way too hard and crunchy to eat, and oily as well. Decent but compared to other sushi trains this is terrible. Averaging at 5 aud per dish, its not worth it. At all.
Yoga Ganason
Small quaint little shop that can get really busy during peak hours. Great selection on the sushi train and there's even more in the menu which you can order to be made fresh. Priced above average but definitely worth given how fresh and tasty the food is.

This is my favourite sushi place in Melbourne. The food is great quality while still being affordable, there is a lot of variety, and the staff are always great.

Went to this place last minute towards the end of the night and the sushi thats been on the train for hours were dry! Definitely recommend ordering through the ipad or asking for a fresh serve. Food was really nice to eat! The green tea mochi was a little bit of a miss but definitely try the strawberry one if you’re a mochi fan! This place is worth trying :)
One of the best, if not the best sushi train in town. 🍣 A lil more expensive that regular sushi train out there but definately worth every penny. Costed me approx $26 for 5-6 plates.

I really enjoy visiting Sukura Kaiten Sushi. They make high quality food which is delicious and tasty. The cost is a little bit more than other sushi trains, but you are paying for better quality food.🔆LOCATION🔆Kaiten Sushi is situated on Little Collins Street near the corner of Exhibition Street. It is a very small venue, and seating is very cramped. It’s best to go there early so you can get good seats at the back.🔆SERVICE🔆Staff is efficient and friendly. We enjoy ordering items from the tablet. Its fast and efficient, and it gets delivered via a conveyer belt to your designated table and next to the sushi train.🔆MENU/PRICE🔆For the sushi train, the costs of items are as follows: Orange plate, $2.80Pink plate, $3.80Black plate, $4.80White plate, $5.80Red plate, $6.80🔆VERDICT🔆Between two people, we had a total of 13 plates (mixture of all different coloured plates) which equates to costs $65.40 ($32.70 per person). We were quite full afterwards and couldn’t fit in dessert - which is a shame because I love dessert hehe. It was very enjoyable dinner and all the items we ordered were very fresh and tasty. Sakura Sushi Kaiten is one of my favourite sushi train restaurants in Melbourne - highly recommended!

One of my favourite quick sushi place , they have another outlet beside Melbourne central but I still prefer this one. Even tho the seating is quite packed but I still come all the time . Sometimes, it get busy during dinner time do make a bookings offer you’re going for dinner . Friendly staff service 👍🏼

Their second location (Sakura Kaiten II) is conveniently next to Melbourne Central. We made the effort to travel to the original though!

Ordered:
🍣 Sushi train ($55.00 for 2)

Review:
My favourite was definitely the salmon sashimi. It was fresh, delicious and definitely comparable to some of the best I've had. There was also a large variety of sushi - definitely a more boujee experience than the sushi trains I have been to.

The service was efficient, but a bit slow because it was peak lunch hour. Lots of suits around, so I wouldn't recommend a big group at lunch on a weekday!

Revisited Sakura Kaiten for dinner recently. This place used to be one of my top sushi trains in Melbourne. It is really tiny, and it does get quite busy too. The seating space is very cramped though. The potato croquette was okay, although quite pricey for the size (it is just one piece cut in half). The unagi was soft but lacked sauce, while the aburi salmon was nice. Our favourites were the soft shell crab and chawanmushi, and the udon was a nice warm way to end the meal.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Sashimi
+ Takoyaki

Came here for a late dinner and was pretty impressed with the selection of sushi and sashimi on offer from this sushi train restaurant. Yes, prices are probably not the lowest but the you get some pretty good and fresh ingredients that sing on the tongue. Service was great and the robotic delivery was pretty cool (and reminisce of some of the ones we visited in Japan). We came out contented and pretty sure I’ll be back again soon.

Best sushi train in Melbourne. Quality stands up over the years! For some reason this one is better than the other Sushi Kaiten II?
Sam
This place in comparison to others is a little more expensive but so worth it! Everything about it was amazing. Definitely our choice of sushi train from now on.
Some Bunee Loves Food
The place is awesome. All the dishes are awesome. My favourite is called the No1. Sushi. Seared Salmon roll with tuna inside. I can't believe I didn't have a pic here but I shall go again and upload it.

I really like this place because it does a lot of fusion style sushi, e.g. with cream cheese etc. Not just the traditional ones. I usually come here for lunch when I want to spoil myself. It does cost a bit more than other places e.g. $25-30 per person on about 5 plates.

Some other sushi I have tried:
Grilled King fish sushi from the sushi train. The King fish was slightly grilled on the top and smeared with mayo and sauce, on top of fluffy white rice. Full of flavour, fish was tender and overall it was very tasty. Plate of two costs $5.80 aud.

Grilled salmon with jalapeños from the sushi train. Slightly grilled on the edges of these salmon sashimi pieces, and sprinkled with pepper and jalapeños, this dish is very Mexican-theme! The sauce is a bit sour to bring out the flavors of the salmon perfectly. Totally slurpicious!

Seared Salmon Belly Sushi. The belly is one of the best parts in a salmon and is extremely yummy because of the texture and I loved it seared. Topped with a dash of mayo, the dish just makes me crave for more after finishing!

Volcano tuna sushi from Sakura Kaiten sushi train, Melbourne. Fresh raw tuna slice in an inverted sushi roll and topped with a jalapeño and spicy sauce. Preferred the salmon version in terms of taste but it's good value for the lowest cost sushi train plate.

Grilled scallops with mentaiko sauce. Mentaiko sauce is the marinated roe of pollock and cod. it's the first time I've tasted it and it was like xo sauce, slightly salty and fishy taste, and a perfect combo with the plump scallops. Slurps!

Spicy scallop ship sushi from sushi train. Crunchy seaweed wrapped around some cold rice with fresh scallop pieces sprinkled in spicy powder. A bit bland in flavour as the scallop wasnt a grilled one and overall I can actually only taste a bit of spicyness and cold. Probably won't be having this again but good to try out :)

Spicy salmon roll from sushi train. So spicy but nice!

One of the best sushi spot in Melbourne CBD! If you’re looking for authentic japanese sushi! This is the spot! Love the varieties and servers were all friendly! One bad thing is that you gotta wait for the long queue outside since the space isn’t much. Probably its not kids friendly here!
Sofie
sakura kaiten used to be my favourite sushi train restaurant in melbourne. Until my family and I all had bad stomach pain after dining there. I have also noticed the small plates on the table are unclean. We will never go back again.

Amazing food and great service! Wish the toilets were not outside in a wet warehousing facility though..

Rating 3.5/5
Service ★★★★
Food ★★★
Ambience ★★★★

Used to love Sakura Kaiten a lot, but my recent visit was quite average experience.

Sushi quality isn’t as fresh as before. Still pretty sad about it.

But the staffs were amazing and attentive, as always. Would love to go back again.

Pricey, but worth it! This is such a cute sushi train with the cute concept of the train delivering it to you when you order from the screen. The sushi here is so fresh and delicious. Sometimes there’s a line to get in, but the wait isn’t very long. Staff are attentive and friendly. If you’re willing to spend, this is the place!
Makan2Melbourne
Finally tried the highest rates sushi train in Melbourne. Had high expectations, especially with the high price tag. Super tuna belly was really good and fatty. However, their rice was dry, it was disappointing although you can tell that their ingredients were better quality. Liked their grilled scallops, although the sauce was overpowering. Also liked the salmon belly sashimi, but overall it was disappointing, especially with the rice. Wouldn’t want to go back anytime soon.

Best sushi train I’ve been in Melbourne. More expensive than other sushi trains but the quality is way better than hotaru or testujin etc..... I go here all the time when I feel like quality sushi train
Siew Hooke
I’ve tried almost all the sushi trains in Melbourne and this one is always the best in my opinion. The space is small and intimate and the food is always fresh and tasty with a great selection of hot food as well.
Missfoodieguide
Came here on a weekday datenight and was quite disappointed with the food quality and freshness. Sashimi and taco wasabi are not so fresh and the sushi rice is hard and cold.
Linnie Eats All The Food
Dinner with Miss Pandan and it was her turn to choose and of course it was Japanese, more specifically, sushi train. We went to her favourite sushi train place, Sakura Kaiten Sushi on Collin Street and yes, there is a second one but Miss Train was adamant that we only go to the original one. She also warned me that it’ll be super busy so we got there just before it opened and there were already people waiting outside. Once the doors opened, we were all seated and the train started moving.

Food was really good and hot.
All items ordered through the tablet came on time and was very fresh.
Staff were friendly and attentive.
A little bit cramped.
Melbourne Foodie
Melbourne Sushi train- very cramped and dark place. Was seated at the train but enjoyed the variety that came through. You could order other items if they weren't located on the train.
The scallop sashimi was great however the Wagu tataki was so tough that I had to spit out the pieces.

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 3/5

A suitable place for lunch, how much you spend depending on what you grab. Highly recommended the dessert “蕨饼” , very good! Not very sweet. Definitely will go back.

Piggyeatalot
2.5 ⭐️ the sushi was a bit overpriced for what they offer, even though it’s fresh enough. I really like the ordering system, how you can order, and there is another separate “train line” that shoots the food out 😂
KEL
My 3rd time here and still want to come back for more! Every single dish was so fresh and delicate. From sushi to sashimi to hot food and dessert, OISHI! Remember to try the matcha pudding. Trust me you will find it surprisingly good.
JOELLE
Sushi specialising Japanese eatery.

The place is definitely not spacious, with only a few individual tables (mostly for 3 or more people) and the rest are along the sushi train. It can be crampy but the place was cos and have a really cute sushi delivery concept. Staffs were friendly, and food came out at a reasonable speed. We order through the tablet provided and it was easy to use. On my recent visit we were given a 1 hour limit as it was a friday night.

Probably the best sushi train in Melbourne.
Their highlight has to be their scallop nigiris as they melt in your mouth, the unagi as well was so so tender, their salmon sashimi were fresh though tuna didn't meet my expectation on my recent visit unfortunately.
Other recommendations would include their agedashi tofu, soba salad, calamari nigiri, potato croquettes, soft shell crab.
Wagyu tataki was pleasant though can be more generous

Okonimiyaki (asked to separate sauce) was pretty good as well, good texture and decent size.

Overall the nigiris have a nicely portioned meat on top of a perfect amount of rice which is chewy and seasoned well.
Had some yuzu umeshus and I loveddd the yuzu black as it was bit stronger than the other one.

What I wouldn't recommend would be the volcano roll and tuna.

Overall, this place is a bit more expensive than other sushi trains in the city, but most of the time it's worth it.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.

Reasonable price for a lovely sushi. One of the best sushi joint in melbourne i will say. The fishes are fresh the rice for the sushi is perfect. The place is considered small thats why i prefer to wait for a table rather than eating in sushi bar because it just no space.
Shak
Favourite sushi train in Melbourne. Slightly on the pricier side compared to other sushi trains in the CBD but quality is incomparable as you won’t find it anywhere else. This is always at the top of the list for a nice dining out experience whenever the sushi cravings arise.
Vicnifer's Food Reviews
Thanks for the meal!

Sushi train!

Excellent quality sushi train. Likely the best in Melbourne at the moment. Delicous sashimi and cooked fish and seafood. My favourite was surprisingly the udon with fried chicken. The soup was just so hot and flavourful and the chicken was succulent and juicy. Only complaint was the type of wasabi they used. It felt like the cheap ones you get from sushi takeaways. Other than that will happy to pay slightly more for the better sushi train experience in the Melbourne
Abigailyu2
Very hidden place in the city for sushi lovers to explore, but worth doing that. Love the vibe. Stuff are friendly. Love all cheese rolls and sashimi. (Only took one pic though🍣)
Candy Ye
Love the toro nigiri! Everything is great and fresh! We ate 11 plates and they costed me abt 60 dollars so it’s a bit pricy but really worth to try them
Fiona Chen
My favorite sushi train in town, have been back all the time for years. Must try the salmon belly nigri All the hot and cold food are nice and fresh, and service is always good
Donniechu
The food was good, there were some interesting dishes that I hadn’t seen in other sushi establishments. Quite pricey and there was a veeeeerry long wait but overall a likable experience.
Applejuice
Great little place with a cosy interior. We waited for around 10-15 minutes as we arrived at peak dinner time. The service staff is extremely helpful and attentive and we had no issues throughout our time at the restaurant. The food is solid with a wide variety of options, however for the price you're paying I expected a little more. My favourite dish was the spicy scallop nigiri.
Wanqi Feng
I like the way them make the sushi, the cheese they add in it absolutly make it special! The price is reasonable. I might come here at least once every month.

First thing I ate landing in Melbourne. I 100% recommend this to EVERYONE. Service was great and super friendly. Food was fresh and presentation just as good! 10/10!!
Eliza T
My favourite sushi train place in the city. The sashimi is always so fresh, my favourites include the tuna and scallops. I always order their chawanmushi which is the steamed egg custard in a cup, always so tasty and filled with generous toppings. They offer a great range of desserts too!
Jamie
Wanting to satisfy our sushi cravings by trying out a new place, we decided to try Sakura Kaiten Sushi after hearing some mixed but mostly good reviews.
Although arriving at 12:30pm on a weekend, there was luckily no line when we arrived. Once seated the restaurant filled very quickly though.
There was a nice variety of sushi, sashimi and other dishes available on the sushi train. The iPad, through which you could also place orders through, had even more choices as well.
The seafood was mostly pretty fresh, my favourite sushi picks would have to be the scallop and cream cheese eel. The salmon however, was cut pretty thin and weren’t the best cut.
The rice (so important in sushi) was also really average and not well seasoned.
All in all, a decent place when you’re craving a variety of sushi, but definitely on the pricier side as sushi trains go.
Danielle Nguyen
This place is so exclusive and intimate. On arrival, there was a line but it moved quickly. Each dish was delicious. So much effort and detail were put into these dishes. There were many varieties and it was too hard to pick what to eat. It was so appealing to my eyes. The raw stuff was super fresh and it didn’t have the typical smell. Would love to come back to get my Japanese fix.
Hon
Came here for a date night, I thought to bring my girlfriend to somewhere more fancier than our usual sushi train joint. Unfortunately, sushi was pretty average. Sushi rice is cold and fish are not as fresh as it should be.
Thirtyhundreds
Was one of the premiere sushi train locations in the CBD. Whilst still good, the quality of certain dishes has been a bit more uneven in recent times especially compared to a few recent entrants to the game.
Leila
Forewarning: the photos are kind of terrible since they’re screenshots of a video. Moving on.

We waited over half an hour to get to the sushi train. Definitely worth it! Best sushi train in Melbourne thus far, huuuge variety and the ones I tried were all so flavorsome and fresh. Only downside was the chairs were simply too close together, I was kind of awkwardly knocking elbows with the patron next to me. Prices were also quite steep, but the dishes were so good I didn’t mind all that much.
Feed Me Melbourne
Had been eyeing Sakura for a while for its bustling reviews and rating. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed. Sushi was fresh; however, freshness and quality was on par with other sushi trains. Ended up eating 17 plates between 2 and was shocked when the bill was near $100. I would only recommend this place if you are not starving. Average price per plate was $5.80 which is around $2 more than other places.
Eat Out In Melbourne
The sushi at Sakura Kaiten is a must-eat! It's my favourite sushi train in Melbourne. Very different to the usual sushi trains, but good different! I always like to go in and try something new. The karage chicken is my favourite. The price is a little expensive and it's often hard to find a table, but it's worth it, even if you go once to just try it.
Tasty_melbourne
Came here last Friday night after work, the lines were certainly building up around 6pm but fortunate enough to get a seat inside. This place is authentically Japanese. I loved that the rice that comes with the nigiri sushi wasn’t too sweet or vinegary. Deep fried oysters and the squid nigiris are amazing, highly recommend.
Jenny Matillano
Overall, I would've rated this restaurant 5/5 if only their prices weren't too steep for the sizes of their servings, as well as the actual space inside the restaurant. You can barely move freely when you're seated since the chairs around the bar are very close to each other, you can tell they are using every bit of space to cater customers to get seated as much as they could but ends up quite awkward being too close each other. Nevertheless I couldn't fault the freshness of their fish especially the salmon, tuna and scallops. It'd literally melt in your mouth. I would recommend this place for its freshness and just for trying it out but if I were to crave sushi again the next time i'd opt for the few other places i know thats way cheaper than here with the same umami and freshness.
Richard Tom
Good for a fast sushi train hit, really enjoyed some of the plates that came out, which were full of flavour and umami. Price was a bit dearer than expected, but standard for city cuisine.
Murasaki
Very nice staff. the quality of the food is good for the price. I would recommend the sea urchin hand roll, super salmon belly, toro, matcha......
Prof. Pinky@LunchLab
My score 4.0+ stars. J & I had lunch here last Monday. We were able to get bench spots almost immediately - I agree with other reviewers, it is a bit of a squish but more interesting than being on a table. Women serving/helping were very nice & explained how things worked (to us newbies to their system). We had 15 plates between us & 3 glasses of wine (total $118). I was ok with the cost of the food as it was SOOO good 🤤 - I thought the wine was a bit steep (if you were in for a bit of a session it would be better value to get a bottle). They had a nice funky Pinot Gris, but I wasn't a huge fan of the Riesling. Favs > Grilled scallop nigiri, Grilled Yellowtail nigiri w miso, Snapper nigiri w "pesto" & Grilled tuna nigiri (all fabulous). Slight letdowns > Crumbed fried oyster - Tim E was right about fried items (we probably should have ordered a fresh plate via the ipad). Salmon "back" nigiri - was a daily special (flesh was too firm - didn't melt in the mouth like all the other dishes). Spicy nigiri salmon - sauce just overpowered the beautiful fresh fish IMO. Overall a lovely experience - the best sushi train we've been to & I suspect we'll enjoy it even more on a second visit! For us a special occasion sort of place - just go & eat whatever you like the look of & don't worry about the plates (& dollars 😬) piling up...
Chace Hua
Poor service, they tried to cram six people on a table that could barely seat 4, after requesting politely that we were happy to split and happy to wait they responded with "but we have to clean the tables..". The sushi was not fresh and overpriced for what it was. I would definitely not recommend this place, sorry.
Jackie
This my number 1 favorite sushi train place in Melbourne CBD. Sushi sashimi are really fresh and there are alot of varieties. Sushi train places are best to go when t is busy, so the dish are always rotated and fresh. But with Sakura they handle the portion on the train very well and regardless whether it is busy or not, it tastes fresh and delicious :)
Tran
Cant express how much i love this place. Yes, its pricier than other sushi places but the quality of the sushi is on another level. My favourite are their different salmon bellies!
The variety is great, and everything is always fresh.
Shun Liu
I think this is still my favourite Sushi train and definitely the best quality Sushi you can find in Melbourne for this price. Even beats some of the good places you’ll find in Osaka and Kyoto. Having been to many Asian countries and comparing to top sushi trains in USA, this is definitely the best you can find in western countries.
Ayapom
Been here about 3 years ago and the experience was quiet amazing, decided to return again with my partner and the quality and food is exactly the same. Very delicious and quiet a fun atmosphere.
Goodeats
Really fresh tasting sushi. A world of difference in quality compared to many of the other cheaper chain restaurants. I guess you get what you pay for. Impressed. The yellowtail belly nigiri and engawa fluke fin nigiri were my favourites. I’ll be back for more.
The World’s My Oyster
Best quality sushi train around. The prices are a little high at $5.80 for most dishes and the seating is limited to one hour. But the fish is sliced thick and fresh and the sauces like the basil and miso sauce is paired perfectly! Tonight we had the special Uni (sea urchin) warship sushi and the Uni was the freshest and sweetest I’ve had in Australia and only $3.80 each! Can’t wait to come back!
Kevin & Emily
This is hands down the best sushi train restaurant in Melbourne. Sakura Kaiten Sushi located in Little Collins Street close to Flinders Street, is the home of some pricey, yet absolutely delicious sushi that must be tried by all sushi lovers.

We were seated promptly after a short wait outside, where the attendees were friendly and accommodating, even pushing in our chairs for us whilst we were seated and ensuring we were comfortable and cosy! We had an array of sushi ranging from scallops to sashimi, and my personal favourite was the scallops. The best I have ever had in my life, whilst the sashimi was of the highest grade. Each plate just tasted premium, with the fish tasting fresh and of the greatest quality cut. You can very well differentiate the flavour from here to other establishments, whether it is the sauce, cream cheese or sushi and it is this that makes it our favourite.

Definitely worthwhile saving for a special occasion, and will definitely be one to remember. Our favourite in Melbourne for sure!

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5
Ambience: 4/5
Value: 4/5

Overall: 4.5/5

Quality sushi. You can sit in front of the sushi train or just at another table and order them through the electronic menu. Very attentive waiting staff and prompt service. I’m surprised that they serve matcha tea made with matcha powder as you usually get those with the teabags. I love 90% of the items that I ordered and my favs are the grilled scallop nigiri and the green tea Mochi ice-cream.
FoodforThought
This is the ultimate sushi train. Although pricier than your typical sushi trains, you’re paying for quality. Rare times the main ingredient is twice the size/amount of rice (although this means less filling and more spending :P). There’s not a whole heap of options on their menu but they do feature some rather unique items like whelk. Their mentaiko scallop sushi is absolutely chunky and delicious. The unagi is little odd with cream cheese.
Hungry Big Potato Bear
My favourite sushi train restaurant. Things I always order are:
- Aburi scallop nigiri
- Crab croquette which is super creamy
- Deep fried scallops which always taste fresh
- Salmon aburi
- Salmon sashimi including salmon belly
- Salmon lobster roll
- Salmon cream cheese roll
- Strawberry mochi
- Mandarin jelly because I love jelly
Linh Nguyen
The seaweed salad was really good, the jellyfish one was not !! Wagyu beef was tasty, dumplings tasted a bit old, like frozen one. Somehow, we ended up spending 100$ on those little food, which means really expensive for poor uni students!!!

4.5/5
My partner and I had dinner at Sakura last night. This place is one of the best sushi trains that I’ve been to. The service was excellent, and very attentive.

We ate a lot of food, mainly because some dishes came w a single portion of food, but in reality I think it was because the food was soo tasty.

The fresh food was extremely fresh, especially the seafood but the deep fried food such as the karage chicken wasn’t quite as good to me.

The drink list was good and I was really pleased to see my favourite rice beer on the menu.

Overall it was a great night.
Kahmin
had dinner here with 2 girlfriends - we waited for almost 45 minutes for a table. it’s a small dining area but food is really good. worth the wait. really fresh, thick and delicious sashimi. soft shell crab was amazing. aburi sushi was so good, we each ordered 2 extra servings. overall a really good dinner but slightly more pricey.
La'Toya Lee
Staff were polite but terrible wait time, sat inside waiting for sushi train, there was a free spot but staff said there was someone already waiting for that spot.
30min later still no one sitting there so we gave up and left...
Darryl Low
Cramped place. Advised staff we wanted a seat at the sushi train, waited for 20 minutes, only to be told that customer that just walked in took the last spot. Waited there way before new ppl came in
Xiaoleyang888
Love this Sushi train!Fresh sashimi and salad. You can pick your style from the train or chose your favourite dishes by iPad. Two people finished 16 dishes,I really recommend the yuzi plum with a sweet flavor~
Pluviophile
Hands down the best place to eat their grilled scalop nigiri. We couldn’t find any other place that had grilled scalop nigiri than this sushi place, not even in Japan. They also have other selections of great sushi and sashimi but we always come back for their scalop nigiris. Please remember that this place is a conveyor belt style sushi where you can just pick and just whatever sushi that passes you or you can also order specifically for which sushi you would like to have. The place is quite small thus it’s always busy in dinner time. Staff and service is always friendly and nice.

I found the portion sizes were generally far too small and flavours to be a little underwhelming. Small portions aren’t always bad, because they can be small but packed with flavour. But most of the food here didn’t leave much of an impression and overall I left feeling not completely full or satisfied. I was pretty disappointed seeing as it had quite a reputation and is so highly rated. Plus the menu and food did look and sound amazing.
I think the thing I enjoyed most was the vegetarian udon, which was surprisingly pretty good. It outshined what should have been the star - the sushi.

At the end of the little Collins street, near the parliament. Very popular so better book a table before you go, otherwise you may need to line up there. The food is nice. Will come again.

LOVE THEIR SUSHI!!! Great place to grab lunch or dinner with your friends despite it being a bit on the pricey side.

Recommend getting their tuna and salmon nigiri! Definitely going to return here soon.

The most transcendent and marvellous sushi tasting experience. The three of us devoured 28 plates of Japanese delicacies.

The salmon belly was undoubtedly the king of all sushi. I am a firm believer of this and do not want to be argued. Really tender, juicy and fatty at the same time. Packed with flavor of the sea goodness. Much more enjoyable than any other part of salmon for sashimi.

Miso soup was great. Balanced enough to deliver kick of miso aroma. Salmon teriyaki was delicious. Grilled to perfection, flavored perfectly. Scallop sashimi was so moist and juicy. With a dash of spy sauce helped to accentuate its delicate flavor.

Definitely worth the price. Could easily lose myself to pick whatever looking good passing in front my eyes.

Feast.

Absolutely amazing! Great little sushi train place in Melbourne. Sushi were very fresh, service were friendly. And they have sake too, not many sushi train places serve alcohol, this is a plus+. However the sits were a bit squashy and table is tiny.

Food is of excellent quality, well portioned and decently priced. Service was exceptional and friendly. The menu is large with a good variety. Coming from Sydney I cannot compare to the other sushi train restaurants in Melbourne however, it is one of the best sushi I've ever had. We spent about $150 for two people but that is evidence of how delicious everything was.

Last year i had the pleasure of eating at their Lonsdale St restaurant, Sakura Kaiten Sushi II, and this place is just as good and its popularity is evident as we had to line up outside for 20 minutes. The selection here is excellent and ranges from your standard sushi train plates to very high end dishes like wagyu steak and scallops. The standout dishes for me were the fried tofu and soba noodles, seriously as good as anything in Japan along with the tuna sushimi lightly seared sashimi salmon with a basil sauce. I couldn't get enough of the seaweed salad and mini japanese pancake. The tempura prawns and crumbed sweet potatoe also good, basically my only issue was with the second serve of beef which was tough and well over cooked. Restaurant tucked away in a very quiet part of Little Collins st and make use of the tablets where you can order dishes fresh.

I thought it could be the best sushi train in Melbourne. Although some dishes are too salty, but most seafood sushi or sashimi is fresh and tasty. you will know that tuna or small or prawn or scallops is fresh not frozen. and the price is not very high. almost $60 p.p
if you like sushi and enjoy the seafood and also want to save your money. try this one!

I can’t believe I haven’t put up my review, this is literally the best sushi train in Melbourne! I have been coming here for years and unfortunately moved out to the suburbs and I miss coming here for lunch and dinner several times a month. Cannot fault this place, the fish is fresh, the oysters are fresh, it is beautifully presented and the little bullet train is adorable! The kingfish with jalapeño is a stand out dish and one plate is not enough and now I’m so hungry I’m coming for lunch tomorrow!

Out of honesty, from Sydneyside diner, this is far by most the best sushi train ever I have experienced. The different types of nigiri and rolls that makes it so unique and special. Everything is worth trying and fresh too.

This sushi train is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! For the price you pay, the quality and quantity is definitely worth! The size of the pieces are bigger than your average sushi train sizes. They offer a decent range for you to choose from and they are soo fresh! My favourite was the tuna and the teriyaki salmon! I have never seen the tuna THIS red and THIS fresh! The teriyaki salmon was the first time I’ve actually tried it and it was soo mindblowing! All the flavours and textures went soo well together! This is hands down probably the best sushi train i’ve ever been to!

We had 13 plates in total and it only costed us $75! What a bargain! The waiters are super friendly and attentive! The place also does modified orders, which delivers on the train right to you! They have a decent range of seating, although it can be a abit squishy! But for a sushi train store, this place really exceeded our expectations! Highly recommend this place and definitely coming back!!

One of the best sushi trains in Melbourne. They have great selection of sushi. This is usually my go to place for a quick sushi fix. Highlights are chawanmushi, uni sushi etc.
