Review Mr Lawrence - Melbourne

Mara J
Great place for dinner. A little culturally confused/(diverse) in both decorations and food, but they've picked some great dishes to mix and match with. Went there with a Groupon so we didn't have to deal with ordering and they just have us some of their most popular dishes. Good and very filling, and even has an upstairs area and sectioned off dining room for private parties.

Great location, amazing food, service and atmosphere. Most certainly recommend and will be back!

Absolutley delicious food, i love the vibe of the restaurant too, very cool will be coming back!!

The food is good but the service soso and it's a bit too expensive for a pizza. And why giving me so much changes?? It is so heavy......

Perfect dinner with great staff. Easy choice will go again

Modern middle eastern fresh food. I liked the food although it wasn’t very generous for the price so keep in mind it’s more obvious you’re helping to pay the rent. The food came out very slowly and I was only one of two tables and had ordered first with no delivery orders apparent, so I ended up taking the dine in order out. They also didn’t pick up the phone when I called before arriving so I am not sure why they were less fast than expected. Still, I liked the options on the menu and the server was very pleasant so I would be willing to give them another go in case it was just an off night.

Beautiful restaurant and great location. Service is a little slow but it actually just made us enjoy the evening more and take our time with the meal. Food is good. The fresh Turkish bread is AH-MAZING. Really nice place for a romantic dinner.

Absolutely incredible meal! Fantastic flavours and reasonably priced. We orders a few entrees and one main which was more then enough for my wife and I. Excellent service and great view over port Phillip bay in the upstairs room. Highly recommended and thank you for the meal!

Came here on a Friday night for dinner and was seated upstairs that had a nice view of the ocean. <br/>Friendly service as we ordered the squid which was delicious, the falafel which was decent, the haloumi which was a little too over cooked and sweet tasting and the beef sujok pizza that was amazing. <br/>I tried the sumac infused cocktail which had a kick to it for those who want something a little stronger 😉<br/>On Mondays they have their $10 pizza nights which is something we would definitely come back for.

What a great find!! Right across the Port Melbourne beach is this cool restaurant serving high quality and innovative middle eastern food. We tried their lamb kofta, fish, and grain salad (kisir). All were flavour bombs!! With a nice twist making them different (in a good way) to the usual middle eastern dishes you have tried. Staff are helpful and ambience is quirky. Will definitely return!!

Went for dinner with a couple of friends and shared the crispy squid, lamb meatballs, roast cauliflower, grilled haloumi to start. You cannot fault the flavours but if you are hungry, the dishes are on the small side and quite disappointed with the veg dish, as there wasn't actually a lot of cauliflower.<br/><br/>We also shared the tomato and three cheese pizza and the spiced chic (yummy rice too) and then had to order the mushroom pizza and slow cooked lamb to fill our bellies.<br/><br/>We probably could have stopped there but we had a couple of dessert lovers, so we tried the moroccan mess, choc fondant and basbousa. An enjoyable and tasty meal but does get a bit pricey if you have a reasonable appetite.

Stand out was the lamb but overall an average experience. Food took a while to come out and unfortunately didn’t live up to the expectation. Was nice to try though <br/>

Just had lunch on a Sat. Walked in with only 1 table of guests. Was a bit worried, but I was impressed by the view in the upper floor. Ordered some small bites to munch on. Had the prawn pizza which is a bit salty. The mocktail was delicious. The 5 of us really enjoyed our time. Only until payment time, I got my phone out for the entertainment book discount. I have used it so many times, but never have I been questioned when I showed the code after hitting redeem now. The waitress was great the whole time, except until when I pulled out my entertainment book I felt the attitude change. She even said to me, she HAS to press the button because she would not have know if I have used it before. Then I looked at the voucher and there was a redeem time. She then gave me the discount reluctantly. I went to check, on the entertainment book app, it clearly saids for us to press redeem and show the next page to the store. Just another note, they charge 1.75% surcharge to ALL cards, yes including saving.

Started out with the falafel.  Three egg-shaped falafel on a bed of spiced labneh.  Generally I'm not a fan as I find falafel a bit dry.  In this case they were crispy on the outside but moist enough within not to *need* the labneh.  Some of the best I've had (but I don't eat them very often so it's a low bar).<br/>The chicken, lamb and potatoes followed.  <br/><br/>The chicken was sliced reasonably thinly, cooked evenly and nicely spiced.  The rice pilaf was scattered with red and black currants.  Nice dish.<br/>Potatoes were very nice.  Lightly crushed and deep fried to a nice crispiness.<br/>The serving of lamb was a little small and I found the tomato & mograbieh (pasta balls) a little dull (it was quite similar to what you'd get in a tin of baked beans) and the whole mint leaves wasted.  In fact, the combination of the sauce and the lamb didn't really work that well.  However, the lamb was very nice.  In some ways, this dish was saved by the labneh that came with the potatoes and the pilaf that was served with the chicken.<br/>Dessert was a "moroccan mess" and a sticky date pudding (off-menu special).<br/>The mess was truly messy - a pile of meringue, berry compote and cream with rose-water flavoured floss on top.  Perhaps a little wetter than necessary and very sweet.<br/>The pudding was pretty good. Good moisture, appropriate sauce serving.  Could have been a little hotter upon arrival at the table.<br/><br/>We did book (not long before arriving), but the booking wasn't on their system.  Fortunately there were plenty of tables, so no problem, but considering that my partner had to spell their name over the phone I found it strange that the booking wasn't listed.<br/>Service was friendly and attentive.<br/><br/>Overall... serving sizes are a little on the pokey side for the price, but the flavours were good.  Gluten-free options are a little on the thin side when it comes to the mains though.<br/><br/>Probably a 3.5 in the old scale.

Came on the Groupon deal. Good food (meatballs and hummus were yummy), friendly staff, and a chilled out ambience. Lovely experience dining out with friends or family to try a different cuisine.

Boring food, got this from Groupon for a 4 person meal ($105) however was slightly disappointed in what was served. Carbs galore with bread and pizzas and dips, not much meat was served (refer to photos)..<br/>It was okay though don’t get me wrong, but a bit boring.. <br/>I wouldn’t recommend the Groupon deal and just go there on a nice sunny day to order ala carte, quite in the afternoons probably gets busier on Friday and Saturday evenings..<br/>

We have been to Mr Lawerence several times now and have tried many items from the menu. We love it, food it really delicious, we love the meze platter, the slow cooked lamb and the eggplant pizza. Staff are very attentive and the venue is a lovely comfortable space. We will return often.
Good Food Good Mood
I suggested Mr Lawrence for dinner with friends last night and by chance we discovered it was $10 pizza night. I was impressed with the interiors and fabulous ambiance, it took us on a real journey to the Middle East.<br/><br/>The pricing of the menu was a little distorted to me. For $30 we bought three chicken skewers and for $30 we also bought three pizzas. The skewer itself was flavourful and moist if overpriced. The eggplant pizza was so delicious with its yummy textural pops of pomegranate we ordered a second. The prawn one was tasty also. <br/><br/>We also had the hummus and bread with spicy lamb and the slow cooked lamb. The lamb was a little fatty but I enjoyed its grain accompaniment. The bread with the dip was absolutely fabulous, but next time I would get the sans lamb option. <br/><br/>Dessert wise we tried a variety of options, the lemon pudding, Moroccan mess and the chocolate fondant with a Moroccan twist in the addition of dates. The fondant was perfectly gooey and my favourite of the three. The lemon was a little more tart so a good option for those that don’t enjoy overly sweet deserts. Overall a great addition to lovely Port Melbourne

3.5<br/>We came into Mr Lawrence with a group of 6 for one of our regular catchup meals. The first thing we noticed was the amazing view out over the spirit of Tasmania wharf and then our attention was turned to the impressively styled interior which really caught my attention. Upstairs was more formal and traditional but I liked the varied imaging and impressive bar on the ground level. <br/><br/>We started off with a round of drinks which included the beer paddle option and a number of non alcoholic options.<br/><br/>Tonight was $10 Turkish pizza night and so it would be rude not to really. We chose the eggplant, tahini, and pomegranate pizza as well as the prawn, zucchini, halloumi and harissa pizza. These came on a light and thin pizza dough in a canoe shape, they were visually stunning but pretty darn tasty too. <br/><br/>Other tasty dishes were the slow cooked lamb which was tender, tasty but a little fatty and served in a bed of chickpeas. The chicken skewers were mighty fine with a garlic and herb marinade. While these skewers were delicious they were a little on the pricey side at $10 each. I can get a whole pizza for the same price on pizza night after all. <br/><br/>For dessert tonight I tasted the Chocolate Fondant, the Lemon Pudding and the Moroccan Mess Meringue. My favourite was the rich and decadent chocolate fondant which was a super dessert. The Moroccan Mess was visually stunning with meringue, berries, cream and fairy floss. <br/><br/>Service was ok. My feedback would be that given we hadn’t dined in before we could have used a bit more guidance around quantity of food to order or suggestions for ideal sharing dishes. We only discovered that it was $10 pizza night almost by accident when debating whether to get an additional pizza. This sort of deal should have been on the menu or explained to us before we were midway through the order. <br/><br/>Overall we enjoyed the freshness of authentic tastes of this menu and I really enjoyed the ambience. I think their price point challenges the concept of generous sharing. The groupon deals and entertainment book offers out there address this to some extent.

Drinks on the deck... superb location particularly while the sunsets over the beach.<br/>Didnt get a chance to try the food this visit but we will go back.<br/>Service was great & loved the vibe of the place.

We stumbled across Mr Lawrence while strolling around Port Melbourne! The location is ideal, so pretty! You can overlook the whole Port. The store itself is super cool, the fit out it awesome with so many little pieces of art and the step up from the street. The service was brilliant! We were not left waiting and they had a good range of beers and wine. <br/>The food, my gosh! We only had a quick bite to eat, the crispy calamari and the lamb and mint Turkish pizza, but it was 10/10 - without giving too much away, you have to try this place! You won't be disappointed. Great seating set up for large groups also.

If you like your Pizza “well done”, a.k.a Burnt and blackened then this is the place for you.<br/><br/>The pictures sum up the horrible experience. I ordered 7 Turkish Pizzas to take away, to get home and realise that without exaggerating 4 of 7 were inedible. When I contacted the store they weren’t sympathetic at all, suggesting that’s the way they’re meant to be. I sent an email to provide the store with an opportunity to at least say sorry for your experience and show them pictures of the extent of how bad it was. Thank you for the reply I never received!<br/><br/>I’m a local, I used to love taking my family and Mum to Mr Lawrence when it was at prior location a 100m away. Since moving everything has gone from at least 4 star to 1!! Save yourself from a horrible meal and check out Dalmatino’s on Bay Street, Moshi Moshi and Ciao Cielo all amazing!
Linda
Great location. Good service. Pretty good tapas. Slightly pricey, but reasonable sized tapas meals. Would highly recommend this place if you’re after a dining option with a view.
Samantha Riely
Ambiance and location is good, value for money is great but the food wasn't amazing it was just ok. The pizzas were certainly the standout as we tried a few share items aswell but none more worthy of remembering.
Izzfizz101
Very good falafel, as was the sumac chicken wing starters, the pizzas here are probably the best baked bread pizzas I’ve had, really really good . The water was a bit warm but upstairs is the place to go to get a nice view and breeze. Water could be a a bit more chilled, good service by the blonde European waitress. Have to take points off for price and the fact full paying customers subsidise the Groupon policy at this venue.

Function review<br/><br/>My family friends and I booked the private dining room for a special occasion (16 guests), and the $40 set menu was selected. The room was lovely - however the lunch did not go as smoothly as expected. There were long waiting times for the food and waiters were very inattentive. <br/><br/>The gap between the entree and main meals was least 30-40 minutes. Waiters did not communicate this to us, to just let us know that there might be a wait so we could anticipate this, because upon finishing the entree we and our guests awkwardly waited for the next meal to come for half an hour. Moreover, the waiters did not check in with us regularly, I personally had to source a waiter to the room to ask for drink orders, cutlery etc. Overall the waiters were pleasant but far too casual, needed direction and were not vocal enough. It is always nice when waiters take the initiative to ask whether their guests’ needs are being met. I almost felt like we were not important, and often disregarded because we were isolated from the rest of the restaurant. <br/><br/>However, booking the room was pleasant. Booking with Matt (the functions organiser) was very smooth and he was happy to answer any questions. Although, I relayed my concerns to him about this lunch afterwards but he did not care to reply. <br/><br/>I was in two minds about writing this review but it has been bothering me and I recommend taking care before celebrating a special occasion here in the private dining room. Moreover in terms of the set menu – the portion sizing for the price was a little off and we needed to order more. The food is great, but service definitely is lacking and tainted the experience.
Bertram Daniel
My overall impression of this place was everything pleases. I could not fault it except for some of the decor but the food and the service was great. <br/>What took me there was a voucher but I will certainly be back to try the second level as well. Even the toilets were sparkling clean with a good handwash.
Yolanda Wong
Went with living social voucher, so the value weighted against the price we pay is very very good. <br/>Housed wine is at average level, every entree reaches standard but nothing stands out. <br/>I personally find the cured beef and the Turkish pizza too salty. <br/>The highlight is the salmon and Egyptian falafel.<br/><br/>The location is a little bit tricky. Only if the weather is nicer
Plummy Loves Yummy
This was a little surprise. <br/><br/>Mr Lawrence has moved out of the london and into its own residence with beautiful views In Port melbourne. <br/><br/>We had a selection of lovely food<br/><br/>Beetroot dip- fresh and full of flavour. <br/><br/>The falafel are lovely even those who aren't a hue fan of falafel should try these I expect they'll change your mind. <br/><br/>We had some beautifully cooked chicken and a flat bread. <br/><br/>I really enjoyed this. Nice friendly staff, good wine, good food. Great date destination. <br/><br/>Yum

My friend and I went to Mr Lawrence on a Groupon voucher for the first time tonight.  This is a great little place, the staff were welcoming and friendly, the service attentive.  The feel of the place is really relaxed and laid back, the lighting is soft and makes you feel like you could happily settle in for a leisurely night with friends over a few bevvies.  The food was fantastic and tasty and the set menu we shared had some really good variety.  We loved this place, will definitely return.
Flopsymopsy
Always great food! Change in venue hasn't been a negative thing either! Drinks can get a little expensive so beware!<br/><br/>Mostly service is great but a slight attitude from one waiter wasn't appreciated.<br/><br/>
Jessica
Amazingggggg food, especially the BBQ chicken & date balls. The layout is funky & cosy. The staff were really friendly. We will definitely be returning.
Elysium
Beautifully crafted dishes! Full of mouth watering flavours, that are very unique to their cuisine.<br/>My favourite dish was the basturma pizza!<br/>We will definitely go back very often!
Olive Sundays
Mr. Lawrence is a middle-eastern restaurant in Port Melbourne that brings the relaxed vibes from the beach across the road. The décor is colourful and inviting just like their menu. Their signature Turkish style pizzas and their Turkish delight rose cocktail is a good way to start any winter night.
NH
Loved the decor and presentation of this restaurant. Awesome view of the beach. Food was very tasty and flavoursome. Would definitely recommend!

Came here for a delicious meal on a week night. The place wasn't overly busy, however the service was impeccable none the less. <br/>The food was delicious however felt that the portion sizing for the price was a little off.<br/>We all left still feeling a little peckish as it was hard to gauge how much food to order. <br/>Next time would definitely order more, especially considering the skewers were $10 each for just a regular sized (albeit delicious skewers). <br/>Thanks for the delicious food and night of dining.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
A big switch-up has seen Mr Lawrence moving from its old digs at the London Hotel to the previous home of its sister restaurant, Tenpin. The large undertaking has also seen Mr Lawrence usher in a revamped menu featuring a mix of old favourites and brand new dishes.
Gastrology
Mr Lawrence has bid farewell to its home at the iconic London Hotel, and started  afresh down the road in a vibrant new standalone venue at 67 Beach Street. The new bright and airy space welcomes Port Melbourne locals and visitors to enjoy a feast and cocktail or two, while admiring what is arguably the best bayside view in Melbourne.
Lou
Tasty Middle Eastern dishes, great wine list, $10 Turkish pizzas on a Monday, great service. I haven't been since they moved locations (such a shame they had to move from the London) but for a long time Mr Lawrence has been a hit in my book.
Johnny Shabazz
Not too bad. The sort of modern restrained middle eastern was fun. Dishes were reasonably priced, beer selection was quite nice, they love their tap beer there. My issue was the after dinner coffee. I ordered a long macchiato but they clearly had no idea how to make a decent one. For a long Mach, it's three fingers of espresso a capful of cold milk and a teaspoon of very fine frothe draped over the crema. What I got was a single shot extracted from a double shot group head a bit of latte milk and entirely too much frothe. It ruined my meal. Which I was really enjoying.
Split The Bill
Mr Lawerance is the place to be on a Monday night in Port Melbourne. If you can, reserve a table as it was very busy. We ordered the Monday night special which was Turkish pizza $10 each. We haf the Beef sujuk sausage, potato, olives & feta plus the spiced mince with lamb, miny, yoghurt & almonds. Washed down with a jug of Pimms. Pizzas came out very quick, quicker than our jug. It was delicious and we will be back.<br/>
George Cockerill
Very interesting, superbly cooked and tasty dishes here - well set up for sharing. Brilliant Monday deal on Turkish pizza means it's always packed out then. Service good if not especially friendly.
Griffo
Love this welcome refurbished version of the classic The London.  The food is always delicious, fantastic selection of wine and beer and the location is unbeatable.

We were booked for dinner on a Saturday night. It was fairly busy but thankfully we got a window seat overlooking the ocean. The decor of the place is an eclectic mixture of a pub and a Middle Eastern cafe. The food was delivered to the table quickly, presented well and tasted heavenly. We ordered Turkish pizzas and shoe string fries along with a Pimms jug. The pizzas were simply delicious. We tried 3 different pizzas including a vegetarian  one and all 3 were impressive, could not fault it. The shoestring fries were tasty too and the aioli that came along with it was the best one I had tasted in recent times. <br/>Do try the Pimms jug if you visit this place, its refreshing.
Leslie Davis
Had a birthday dinner for a group of 14 here on Saturday. It was easily organised. The suggestion of a set menu was good. The food was very tasty. My vegetarians were catered for and the staff looked after us very well. Baking for a very happy event well received by all my guests. Definitely not sitting on their laurels for their location here. The food was a bit different also. Nice variations. All very fresh.

I recently discovered Mr Lawrence and it's already one of my fave summer spots. My preference is the share tapas plates and I highly recommend the pork loin and the lamb hummus, accompanied by cocktails of course. The views are great and the glass barrier along the outside seating provides protection from the Melbourne winds :)
Andrew Turner
We'd booked for lunch on a Sunday at Mr Lawrence at the London on the corner Princes and Beach st in Port Melbourne. It was reasonably busy inside but we had a window seat with views out across the bay. Inside the fit out has Middle Eastern touches while still feeling a bit like former pub it is. Apparently it is under threat of re-development, which given how few notable older buildings there are on this part of the seafront seems like a shame. The menu is also influenced by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours.
Chris
Impeccable Turkish cuisine, & really great staff. Decent prices as well. <br/>edit: I've been here 3 times now and re-rating to a 4.5 overall (first 2 times were 5's, 3rd time a 4)
John
We have had many a time here at The London with friends and family. And I heard around the grapevine that they are looking to redevelop the building!!!! Please don't!!!<br/><br/>I like the menu overall, a lot of meat dishes with tasty middle eastern spices. The pizzas are a big hit and great to share. One thing I noticed when ordering for a big table and all sharing was a few dishes tasted similar. If you don't mind a bit of a wait at peak times (this is expected anyway) then give it a go! Wether it's Sunday sessions looking out to the bay or a romantic dinner for 2, I will be back ;)
Big Al
Summer is here and nothing better than a cruisey Sunday session at one of the many tables with ocean views. It's funny that I have been going for several years now but only this visit figured out the venue is named after Lawrence of Arabia (well my uncle actually figured it out on his first visit!). Consequently the food has a very middle eastern influence, not what you may expect from a contemporary looking fit out in an historical old pub but they do it well. Last visit I ordered the fish which was tailored to meet my special dietary requirements, the rest of our table orders varied from slow cooked meats to salad, the service here is attentive and friendly and wine list extensive. I wonder what it might be like if they ran a broader menu as middle eastern can get a little stodgy and for me isn't a regular or appealing offering. In any case I'll certainly be back for the view, vino and service.
Kimberley Shadbolt
Tried the $10 Turkish pizzas on a Monday. The food and drink was superb and the waiter was so attentive and polite. The menu was so interesting. I'll definitely be going back to try more.
Aniiyyo
Great food , great service , we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere .<br/>The Turkish pizza are highly recommended .<br/>Although this place is very popular , still you don't hear so much noise . The tables have nice distance .<br/>Good place to have a long dinner

Chickpea Squid - Amazing! To die for!<br/>Lamb pizza - freshly baked, soft bread with delicious minced lamb.<br/>Sticky date pudding - was a good dessert. Maybe a little bit too sweet.<br/>Great atmosphere. Love the wood fire..
Peter Emmerson
In 1 word. Sensational, Pussycat loved it as well, great service and beautiful food, what else could one want on a Sunday afternoon, view is also fantastic overlooking the bay, the docks and the beach<br/>12 September 2017<br/>Back again , menu and location has changed but the food and service hasn't , well worth a visit, not as good as when located at the pub mind you but still ok
Keen For Cuisine
Was really pleasantly surprised by the the food at this restaurant! Loved the turkish pizza, would definitely like to go back to take advantage of their $10 pizza on a Monday. For dessert the rosewater pannacotta was super delicious but i'd definitely give a miss to the knafeh. Service was super nice too.
The New Fave
With such a drool-worthy looking menu (and may I add, an exceptional location) Mr Lawrence has been near the top of my To Do list for quite some time. Situated on Beach Street looking over the water, Mr Lawrence draws in the Summer crowds with its outdoor seating, and the Winter crowds with its reputation for delicious Middle Eastern cuisine.
Christine Naumovski
Great food and fantastic service! We had meatballs, lamb pizza and chicken tangine. All very delicious! Great location too :) I highly recommend Mr Lawrence!
L
This is fast becoming my favourite restaurant, I've come here an embarrassing too many times in the last few months. Good service, beautiful view if you get a window seat and are able to catch the sunset, and amazing food. I've only tried about half the menu at this point but I can't get enough of it! The pulled pork, sticky date pudding, fennel fried squid and pumpkin pizza are all my standouts.
Christian Eliab Ratnam
The food was great. Staff were friendly. I had Turkish pizzas with red wine. Beautiful location. Definitely will visit again soon. Check this out when in port Melbourne.
Stephanie Watts
Amazing Turkish pizza!!! Monday night they have pizza specials, definitely worth the visit!! Beautiful location. Also great for drinks on night out, superb drink list - they do great Espresso Martinis :) Good service!
ToorakM
5/5 - Oh what a gorgeous location! Sit outside on a warm sunny day and enjoy the views - especially at sunset! <br/><br/>This place does amazing little Turkish pizza. Not many in our area do Turkish so it's great to have this so close and so good. <br/><br/>Forget the diet here - they've got a terrific drinks list yet a few more French champagnes would be good! <br/><br/>The chicken pizza was delicious, the dips and bread (Beetroot dip we are still raving about) and sujuck pizza was perfection. Such great flavours and generous serves. The dessert pizza we were pretty much stuffed by this time but it was so delicious. 5/5 meal. <br/><br/>Look for their specials too as some days you can grab a pizza super cheap! Staff were so lovely too. <br/><br/>A word of warning the front gets windy out front like a wind tunnel so sit around the side as you get more sun and no wind!
Miffy
Been here a couple of times for work lunches. Nice location with views of the Spirit of Tasmania. Food portions, even pizzas are not large so you can afford space for dessert, but quality is good.
Nicky M
Place is beautiful and great location. The food is amazing. Always bring friends here because I know they will like the food and the atmosphere.
Amber KH L
The Turkish pizza's are delicious and the Turkish flavours have a great modern spin . We sat out the front looking over the road at the water and pier which was lovely. It's located in a little more quieter spot of Port Melbourne and is close to the tram stop, so getting in and out is easy.
Steve Levon
Amazing Middle Eastern flavours in a beautiful setting whether it be outside watching the gorgeous sunset in Port Melbourne or inside in the contemporary pub like atmosphere... The Turkish style pizzas are to die for, and that's just the start! Recommend this place in a heartbeat.
Kate Bolton
I popped in for their Monday Night dinner special, Turkish Pizzas, and was pleased I did. The restaurant layout is lovely and open. Great entree selection, I had a lamb boereks they were super delish and a vege Turkish pizza. Only thing which could improve is the service but was all good for Monday night.
Ash McCallum
We recently stopped into Mr Lawrence for a quick bite and were pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and the staff were friendly and attentive. We shared two pizzas - which were great. We'll definitely be back.
Lizabeth
A definite favourite ever since they were able to find us a last minute table on Valentine's Day a couple of years ago. Excellent food, the lamb and pinenut boureks, prawn and haloumi fritters and bastourma are always a favourite. Finish up with one of their delicious expresso martini's at an outside table and you have the recipe for happiness.
Finger Lickin
Some friends and I dropped in on a Sunday afternoon and it was the perfect choice for a sunny summers day. The food was delicious with great flavour and there was a great variety of drinks to choose from.

This is my local and I LOVE it! Food, view and service is fantastic! Flavours and menu is awesome and caters to all food allergies! Define highly recommend👍🏻
Howardpeter243
my wife and I had lunch last week and we really liked it, the menu has a great choice and what we tried was very tasty, a broad selection of beers which we sampled some and the staff is very nice as well, its worth to try

Catch up the girls for an early dinner... Loved the prawn haloumi fritters (yummy)...friendly staff, great atmosphere, cosy. Awesome local restaurant. <br/>

We were out and about in port Melbourne and hungry. The building has been around forever so we thought we'd give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and the menu was middle eastern inspired with great flavours. Mon nights the pizzas are only $10. Will be coming back.
M. T.
We wanted a table outside and were informed by the wait staff that they had no means of attaining a table for us - we simply had to stalk and wait upon other customers to leave and steal their table. Service was a tad slow in general both to clear the dirty table, to take our order and for food to arrive. Food was average.
Emily Russell
Fantastic venue with friendly staff. The pizzas were absolutely amazing and you get a great view of the ocean. Highly highly recommend this place.

A regular at Mr Lawrence, I called tonight for a takeaway. One star says it all.<br/><br/>Firstly, the menu on their website is horrifically out of date - at the risk of stating the obvious, if you're going to try and order a takeaway from a place where the available menu has changed substantially from what's actually available, it's going to be hard work.<br/><br/>Worse, when I eventually said I'd leave it as it was becoming so hard to get an order sorted (finding out the beetroot they told me they no longer do, before telling me it was back on, before then telling me it was now a totally different beetroot dish that was now actually a dip... ) the British lady who was on the phone said 'sure' and hung up. No 'I'm really sorry about that' and no 'thanks for calling'.<br/><br/>What a shame - great food, basics of a correct menu and, worse, courteous service, missing. Unacceptable.

Went for lunch with a visitor from the UK on a Thursday. Really impressed with the service (both speed and friendliness). The dishes were all delicious, however we all agree the stand out dish was the watermelon, feta and nut salad. Really good range of beers on tap too.

Made a booking for 5 >3mth ago, confirmed it 2wks ago. Arrive to a table set for 4. Solution was to uncomfortably squish a person on the end, up against another table. Attitude to resolving the issue very poor. About the 15th time I've been to this place, but sadly the last for a while. I hope they can get their service ethic back on track before I come back - I would like to be a regular again. When she started her shift, the lady with the bright red punky hair somewhat turned our very poor experience around with her wonderful and skilful service. Take a leaf out of her book pronto!

Good for vegetarians! Stopped in on a Monday lunch - $10 pizzas - perfect. We had a variety of dips pizza and salad. All fresh, nicely presented, wholesome flavours without being over the top. Service was fast and attentive even though we were outside on a windy day. Dog friendly, nice foreshore views. We'll be back.
Heidi
Really nice restaurant on the waterfront in Port Melbourne! The honey and orange pork ribs were delicious! As was the watermelon salad! The Turkish pizzas are really good, definitely worth ordering one to share!

Great location + Fantastic Food + Nice Beer on Tap. This place is more than value for what you pay for, especially in in such a prime location. Heard the current owners have some link to Chin Chin restaurant (The Lucas Group); it shows in the design and quality of the food. Service is really great; even on hectic warm weekends, which attracts every dog and his dog to Port Melbourne.

We didn't have a booking so we were seated as the communal / raised table. We were there for 15 minutes and were not served. Let me make that clear- no-one gave us menu's, no-one asked if we wanted drinks, no water for the table, not even a "sorry will be with you soon". Then after 15 minutes other people were seated at the communal table and seved straight away. Still no acknowledgement that we were also there. That's when we got up and walked out. Wont be back here in a hurry.

In summer this place is highly recommended- delicious craft beers, excellent food and friendly staff. I would recommend the pide pizza and chicken wings!

Great informal restaurant, which serves beautiful fresh food. We dined with children (5pm) & they were also catered for well.<br/>Great service & ambience.<br/>We liked it so much we returned a couple more times with our friends.

Fantastic place with friendly staffs and cozy space. Make sure you stop by here to chill under the summer sunshine if outside already felt too hot for you

100% recommended. Excellent food. Nice and warm place. Well located. Precise service. <br/>We ordered Pulled Pork which comes with turkish bread, a kind of 'fajitas'. Excellent.<br/>And Pork Loin with coliflower purée. <br/>Imposible to complain about anything.

I feel that this will become a new favourite. Great fit out with quality food that made me want to eat it all again.

Posted by FoodieAboutTown on Saturday, April 25, 2015 · Leave a Comment   The Good Old London at Port Melbourne, under the badge of Mr Lawrence they are offering sunshine and Middle Eastern fare by the sea. Really like the vibe here, super relaxed (but you still get great service!). A great menu with plenty of mouth watering and healthy options, you can enjoy a graze through Ricotta fritters, Ocean Trout, Boureks, Tagine, sticky lamb shoulder or some Turkish pizzas. The Persian lamb meatballs with labne are sensational, big, hunky lamb balls, super juicy and slathered in a rich, deep tomato sauce and a light hit of labne. The ‘Bastourma – Cured beef, Persian fetta & pickled fennel’ is quite possibly the best ‘healthy’ option dish I could have picked. I have never had ‘Bastourma’ before, Google tells me it is ‘a traditionally dry-cured and air-dried prime cut beef topside’. It was sooooo tasty, perfect with creamy fetta and LOVE the pickled fennel. It was a generous dish and bloody lovely!! Beautiful Harvey Bay – half shell scallops with cauliflower puree and chorizo crumbs. Just one each, I could have eaten a dozen! They were so good, plump, perfectly cooked scallops, served proud in their shells with a lovely cauliflower puree and a little hit of bacon – YUM! The staff were lovely, looked after us really well, for a pit stop on a long walk in the sunshine, this was perfection. See you soon Mr Lawrence! —————————— Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Music n/a but loved the buzz of Port Melbourne seafront! Toilets n/a Worryingly didn’t go! A healthy lunch. A cafe that serves plenty of healthy food, the falafels are magnificent.

Food fabulous. Service average.

...a stylish yet cosy place for a meal, in an almost unmatched location across from the beach. Where things have changed, they are exclusively for the better. The menu now fills

Four dinner visits and great every time!<br/>The lamb & pinenut boureks and the ricotta & spinach fritters are just amazing<br/>The broadbean falafel and the Chermoula grilled chicken were good but not amazing.<br/>Pizzas are nice but small so keep that in mind.<br/>I didn't like the Persian lamb meatballs but that could be just me.

Fantastic place. We went to Mr Lawrence for a Melbourne Cup lunch and were totally overwhelmed by the quality of the food, the caliber of the service and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. The lunch started at 11am with canapes, and progressed through many many tasting plates until 4pm. Each dish was sensational. The wine list was very affordable and included some lovely wines which were not much more expensive that a bottle shop.<br/><br/>Without doubt this was one of the best MC lunches we attended and hope that we can return again next year.

Fantastic food. We ordered a prawn Turkish pizza and a rocket salad for two to share. The serving size was a little on the small side for the price, particularly the salad which was $9.50 and could ha e fitted on a side plate. However, the flavours were delicious. The staff were also friendly and attentive. The environment a little noisy inside and too windy outside but it was fine overall and generally pleasant. The Hugo Elderflower wine with mint leaves was delicious and topped off the experience nicely.

A bit overpriced but generally the good is good. Ideal for an afternoon in the sun and a bite to eat. Food is well presented and most of the dishes we tried were good.

Terrible service!. The food is good here but the service is shocking! We sat outside only to be forgotten about and bitten by bugs to then come inside and be forgotten about. We had to prompt a waiter to come and order our starter drink!!<br/>Food takes ages to come out! <br/>We live a block down the road and won't be coming back ... We wil be <br/>going to the exchange from now on.<br/>This place seriously needs to pick up it's game. While we were waiting for our second course no one bothered to take another drink order. <br/>Don't bother!

Delicious!. We have been here three times and it is so delicious each and every time. The pizzas are delicious and great to share, salads and sides are really yummy as well. They've nailed the modern middle-eastern style cooking. The fit out and ambiance is really cool as well - all around a must try!

Seriously!!!. Slow service, comatosed staff and average food ... Looks like they use the same ingredients in every dish. Average quality ingredients. Definitely not generous or even considerate of greens. A wine list that is actually NOT A WINE LIST. How embarrassing to have this place in Port Melbourne. Horror! Rort ... BORING

Always a good experience. I've been to Mr Lawrence 4 times and it's always been a great experience. They serve Middle Eastern style share plates. Fav's are the lamb pizza, the pulled pork and the shredded lamb share plates. Great wine list too.

Worst place. The waiter dropped a glass and coke was everywhere with glass all over us. But no that's not all the chips we ordered never came because they didn't have any and we ended up paying a bill of over 100 dollars for chips we didn't get and coke filled with ice. I believe that this restaurant should shut down because it defiantly didn't do it for me. I rate it a 1 star.

Loved It!. We went here for Friday lunch on a Cudo voucher. The food was excellent. Such lovely flavours. We had prawns for entrée, pulled pork and chermoula chicken for mains. The service was great. The views out the window lovely. We will definitely go here again. Hopefully a voucher deal is offered again.

26-8-2017<br/>My second visit to MrL last Sat night was quite different, apart from the new location. The food I have to say is still of a high quality, but sadly front of house with their curt demeanour really detracted from the experience which was a real shame :( <br/><br/><br/>------<br/><br/>The food coming off the pass here is exquisite, with the flavours exploding in your mouth, and for that reason alone you have to LOVE it, but the wait for the food was lengthy, which almost spoiled the evening. Having said Mr Lawrence is right up there with the best and comes highly recommended. Expect to part with around $45-50 ph + drinks
