Review Entrecote - Melbourne

Michael
✩ A wonderful restaurant in the heart of Prahan! ✩ The service was fantastic – from the moment the front-of-house staff took our coats, to the moment we paid the bill and left. Our waiter was helpful and provided us with her recommendations from the menu. She also checked up on us throughout the night to make sure everything was okay. ✩ Our dishes were fresh, delicious and tasty. We really enjoyed the three-course menu. ✩ The ambience was like no other. We really enjoyed the pianist playing soft tunes as we ate our meal, the candles on each table and the soft lighting throughout the restaurant. ✩ Will certainly be back in the near future!

The venue interior was luxurious and romantic. Classic dishes executed well. Perfect place for a special occasion. The pianist played only til 9pm , highly recommend to book in an earlier time. For weekend bookings I suggest to book 3 months out to get your desired date and time. I booked 2 months ahead and there weren't many times and dates left. Overall, I had lovely experience. The restaurant does briefly take you away somewhere beautiful.

What a beautifully designed space! I could almost pretend I am in France. Even better still, it’s located at the quaint little Greville Street. I had the lunch set - a grilled market fish, perfect as a light meal that came with a tomato broth and beans. I decided to have dessert this time and was pleased with the basque cheese cake with caramelised orange, a perfect balance against the richness of the cheese.

The experience of dinning in Entrecôte is absolutely amazing. I came in the early afternoon and I had a wonderful feast recommended by Christian. The scallops are tender and flavorful, the signature steak frites are too delicious. The steak was cooked the perfect medium rare and the taste of one bite made me wonder about the secret herbal sauce. Cream brûlée is authentic and mouth watering. Last but not least, the bubbles and the bread are delightful. I recommend to go and enjoy this Parisian palace experience on Greville street.

Beautiful French restaurant in Prahran. Just an excellent spot for beautiful classic French food. Bustling location that warrants planning in advance as the place books out and will struggle to make space for walk ins during busy periods. Wine list is extensive, but the classic steak frites was a great dish, well worth the wait.

I enjoyed our work lunch here. Staff were good, food was enjoyable. Had escargot (if you have never had them, give them a try. The dish is really inoffensive and enjoyable), entree scallops (cooked really well) and the steak (steak was cooked well, but a little chewy. The herb butter was really nice). Not a quiet place, but not an issue either. Definitely worth a visit if you want to go French.

Lovely lunch today. Served by our professional, friendly and charming waiter (Marco? Michael?). Accessibility Info: no wheelchair access into the front but if you make a reservation or let them know, there is a back entrance apparently that they can guide you to, that is accessible. You can also sit outside where no steps are involved.

First time visiting Entrecôte and I loved it. We managed to get a parking space not too far away which I can see could be problematic in some instances but nonetheless I have legs and can walk! First impressions of the place was amazing. Love the style and layout of the restaurant. We were greeted and sat at our table and the staff were friendly and given my questions I had, I was found with someone who had the answers which was good! I went all out and tried things I hadn't before and it didn't disappoint. I have nothing bad to say at all which is easy for anyone to say something negative but this lacked nothing bad, drinks were great and had a lovely time. I will definitely be back again! Highly recommend.

Went on Valentine’s Day dinner for two. Nice environment but waited for too long . Liked the steak and dessert:)

Got to love the fully garb waiters ... fine dining style even for takeaway; white shirt, black pants and vest!
7/10 $7.90 for a takeaway, short fat, slightly burnt pasty sausage roll, it's is good though, but is it worth that much?
6/10 for the latte

The food was good. But the waitresses has no idea what they were doing. The gentlemen that served us the sauces didn’t know what bernaise sauce was despite being French. Also asked for more
Mustard. It never came. Used to love this place. But probs isn’t on my list to come back now

Been here a few times, right next to the tan so very convenient for all! The staff are always very welcoming and keen for a chat, the waiter we had described the wine we had with amazing detail, definitely made the night. The food and drinks are very good. Definitely go for their main steak option if it’s your first time, does not disappoint!! (Refer to fourth picture) If you want an authentic out of Paris upper market Parisian experience this is the place. I recommend this place highly.

Love the place is so Paris chic
The steak frittes is a must so is the aperol spritz
Great atmosphere
Def to catch up with friends
Or a romantic dinner
Favourite place

What a disappointment. I have wanted to try here for a long time. We were seated. Thrown a drink menu. Had to ask to order drinks. Then had to ask for a good menu. Bread came. No bread plates. No bread knife. My martini was half a martini. Glass just filled half way. Small glass. At $23 they could at least fill the glass. Steak came and was cold and very bland. Waste of money. Seriously go to Squires Loft for a cheaper and better steak. Never going back!

I used to absolutely adore Entrecôte since discovering it 3 years ago but returned today for their lunch service and was woefully disappointed. The service was so poor, three waitresses attending the busy outside area and instead of focusing on their customers they used every opportunity to have a good chat whenever they could. We had to wave them over to order after sitting down for about 20 minutes. When they brought the napkins and cutlery over the waitress didn’t bother to clear the 3 empty coffee cups on the table nor refill our empty water bottle.

When our food arrived I was just stunned by my plate as pictured, each time I have dined at Entrecôte I always order the Steak Frites as it is always such a winner but today for my $46.90 I was served a sad piece of meat that wasn’t even well rested and bled all over and a hastily slapped on green sauce.

When we went to pay the Maître D’ said we could split the bill “if you all know the amount you’re paying” but didn’t even provide us with a copy of the bill until I prompted her for it. Sorry Entrecôte, I used to be a huge fan and would recommend you to anyone who asked where they could find great French food in Melbourne but not anymore. It doesn’t matter how good your food is, if your service is rubbish you’ve ruined the diners experience.

The perfect coffee spot when you are walking the Tan. I love that they have a takeaway window out the back and a beautiful french-style dine-in area in the front.

Soy latte was spot on. The decor is very European - as if you are stepping into a cafe in Paris. Plenty of cute dogs to pat, which is always a good thing.

Was drawn to this place for their ‘steak frites’ - pasture fed Cape Grim 250g Angus Porterhouse with unlimited frites!
Steak was cooked to my liking and was delicious. Had to try the snails and they were surprisingly delicious. Amazing tarte citron- very lemony which I like!

July 2020
Dined at entrecôte for a special birthday dinner.
🍽 soufflé gratinee : rich and decadent. Almost too large for an entree but too tempting to stop eating.
Pithivier Aux Champignons Forestiers: flakey buttery puff encasing a silky creamy mushroom filling.
Confit de Canard- duck was perfectly cooked and melting in the mouth. Sprouts were not bitter and the dish was well balanced.
Creme brûlée - traditional silky custard with shard like caramelised sugar on top.
Paris breast - Choux pastry with hazelnut cream. Delicious and airy pastry.
Profiteroles au chocolate - perfect morsels of vanilla bean ice-cream filled choux. Rich and velvety chocolate sauce.

Hands down, the best creme brûlée in Melbourne! This cafe is a small piece of Paris right on the forefront of Melbourne’s Royal Botanical Gardens. With its french-inspired decor, to its authentic menu, and polite service; this cafe is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon rendezvous!

My sister kept telling me how good this place was. Service, ambiance and taste of food was excellent, except the way the steak was cooked. Super tough and dry, therefore I couldn't agree with her and enjoy this meal. However, I'd like to give this place another go, maybe it was a one off.

I’ve been a returning patron of Entrecote since it opened. I recently visited on a busy Saturday evening and can say I’ll never come back. Waiter forgot our napkins and cutlery and delivered them minutes after food was on the table. I asked for my steak to be cooked
Medium rare but it was served blue. Steak was so tough and difficult to cut through. The waiter accepted my feedback without hesitation, only to return with the same, cut up piece of steak cooked well done. This means my partly eaten steak was returned to their grill. In my previous experiences of sending back steak, I always receive a new piece cooked with precision. I hate wasting food but this was seriously inedible, and not worth $49. I gave up. The restaurant was busy so attention to detail and quality was clearly not their priority. Prawns were tasty, hence the 2 stars. But this isn’t really a prawn restaurant....
MalvernCustomer
Food was good, service was ok, but bring charged a surcharge for card payments at the prices this restaurant charges is nothing short of greedy.

Pity, the food is good and the wine list is very good but the surcharge is enough to put me off coming back.
Randomfoodie282
The steak was a tad too well done for a medium rare which I asked for, but the sauce absolutely made up for it. French toast and coffee were lovely too. My main problem is with the escargots which were very bland and I couldn’t even taste the garlic butter. Atmosphere is very vibrant. Can’t wait to come back for the cheeseburger and more desserts!
FoodieInMel
Beautiful French style restaurant, located in front of gorgeous botanical garden. Great place for brunch or have couple of drinks with friends on their happy hours with some delicious escargots, one of my favourite dish here.
John S
I found both courses that I had (onion soup and daube) rather bland. Service was cheerful and efficient. I don't think it lives up to its french theme. Also, there's french all over the place but they have a glaring error on their web home page, conspicuous to anyone who did a bit of school french and who remembers which way accents go.
RichEats
I can't recommend the steak frites more highly. It's a fantastic meal. The herbed butter sauce is truly delicious and not heavy.

Served with the steak were the best fries/frites I've had in my life. These are unlimited, as is the accompanying salad. Unlimited sparkling water available for a small charge.
Withaknifeandfork
We loved 😍
This is a great French steak house! Butter was delicious. You must also try the creme brûlée - it was light and smooth!

We disliked 😖
I had asked for a medium rare but it was probably more on the medium side. My two friends ordered the same and their dishes were delicious.

I didn’t just like this place, I loved it!

I’ve been eating quite my share of steak frites and a few white wines for lunch and Entrecôte was a winner.

Amazing staff; I’ve chatted with the owner over the years and it’s great to see restaurants like this thrive.

I had steak, frites, bernaise, Pinot Gris and a French onion soup; pretty much my go to in any French restaurant.

The onion soup was so rich, meaty and flavourful. It was absolutely stunning. My steak was well done, tender and salty to my liking and the chips seemed like they were endless..!

With a few wines later it was an outstanding lunch and great value. If you’re in the area you shouldn’t miss this place.

Ordered:
- steak tartare (entree size)
- steak frites

First and foremost, the service at this restaurant was professional and suited the ambience of the place. The steak tartare had a strong mustard taste but was delicious overall when paired with the waffle chips. The steak frites, however, was tougher than I anticipated (medium rare) and the sauce had a seafood aftertaste that I could not shake off. It was a disappointment as I’d heard only good things about the steak frites.
Quince And Cheese
I’m not a big chips person but Entrecôte’s “frites” are the exception. They’re all I’ve tried at this hotspot (aside from coffee, which is nice), but they’re worth going back for. Generally, I enjoy the space for the odd business meeting when I need a spot on this side of town or when I want to get some work done on my laptop and people-watch. It might not be the most common reason to visit the venue, but it’s a good enough reason for me. For food, vegan options are sparse but there are several vegetarian.
Hunger Gains
Before visiting Entrecôte I had heard many great things about their steaks. However, a friend of mine convinced me to order the cheeseburger and ensured me it wouldn’t disappoint. I have to say, this was without a doubt the best cheeseburger I have ever eaten. I swear by it! Can’t wait to visit again and get my burger fix. Lovely atmosphere in here and amazing service.
Anna
Nice place, however a lot of difficulty ordering my meal. The waitress’s was really new and couldn’t understand simple breakfast items like sourdough’ or ‘green tea’ and they got my meal wrong and had to take it back. Bit disappointing service however nice food.

Overall score: 16/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: beautiful French cafe in Melbourne
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the croque madame was perfectly done. Adequately crunchy toast paired with bechamel cheese and ham. The eggs benedict was more standard - the English muffin wasn’t warm enough and I thought the pulled pork was a bit dry. Coffee was easy to drink and more milky than usual.
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - this is a beautiful and charming french cafe. French music and spacious tables. I could sit here forever, especially with newspaper and coffee.
*
Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️- you would be looking to pay $25-30 for brunch and coffee. prices are a bit on the high side because portions were quite small.
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the croque madame was beautiful, with a thick layer of cheese evenly spread on the bread. Eggs ben looked okay. Not as much effort to make our coffees look beautiful.
*
Service ⭐️⭐️ - the staff were not as friendly as we expected. A waitress asked “what do you want?” when we went to the counter to pay. Such a pity, because this wasn’t our first time here and it never used to be this way.

After absolutely loving the steak frittes a couple years ago, I thought of returning back with my partner for our anniversary. The onion soup was delicious, had the smokiness and creaminess expected in an authentic French onion soup, definitely recommend. After talking up the steak frittes for so long, we were both severely disappointed. Memories of melt in the mouth steak ,completely gone. Whilst cooked medium rare, the porterhouse was so tough and required some serious elbow grease to cut. This left me feeling ripped off at the spend we’d just made. Whilst it is a nice dining experience, I definitely wouldn’t come here for the steak alone!I

As a big fan of steak I have been wanting to visit this place . Cute french vibe cafe / restaurant outside and inside the place. Steak is pretty good, sauce is to die for and fries is delicious.

Good French bar located at a quiet place. The snails and steak are good! A little expensive but overall a nice place for dining. Recommend: Steak tartare
Hungry Little Dinosaur
The lighting in here is is beautiful! We had scallops and steak tartare - scallops were a bit cold but the steak tartare was beautiful. Steak was a bit tough, I usually prefer eye fillet but the salad was beautiful as were the fries. Finished it up with a creme brûlée. The service was lovely and friendly and will definitely return! The goal for us was $183 but it was worth every dollar!

We came here for the steak it was truly delightful. However if it was a bit hotter it would have been perfect. We sampled the snails which were garlicky and so good with some crunchy bread. Great Parisian bistro feel.

Lovely place to eat and chill out, next to a lovely park. The folded eggs were just devine, paired with the scrumptious grained buttery toast. Would definitely come back again for the steak and fries!
AH
I definitely enjoyed Entrecôte, however, perhaps my expectations were unrealistically high. While the food was certainly tasty, I felt that it was a bit overpriced for what it was, particularly given that the steak could have been more tender.

Had lunch with friends on a sunny day. Pleasant setting. Had the steak tartare which was nice although it could have been seasoned more and was lacking in capers and cornichons. Followed with the scallops which were rather cold and probably a little under cooked. Hesitated to send them back but was reluctant to spoil the experience with my friends and having to eat on my own after. The grilled eggplants on the dish were hard and bitter. Nice fries but that's to be expected in a French Brasserie and great bread. Service was hit and miss, seemed to be a lot of staff on but no-one really knowing what the others were doing. Interesting that at the end of the meal when we ask for the bill (more than once) the waitress brought the credit card machine without showing us the bill and was rather surprised when we wanted to see it! Overall, expensive for the amount and quality of the food and experience.
Willtravelforfood17
Came here and had my usual which was the steak frites which is $46.90 (from memory) and comes with bottomless shoestring fries (yassss) and a serve of salad. They only have 1 cut of steak which is the porterhouse and I requested to have it done medium rare. It was perfectly done and tender. The fries were well-seasoned and moreish and delicious dipped in the green secret sauce. The sauce was also delicious and herby and complimented the dish. The steak tartare which my partner ordered was creamy and fresh and delicious. The meat was of excellent quality. A small letdown was they didn’t serve us bread like they usually did upon seating us (this is the first time we have had to ask here) and it was stone cold. Also we had to ask for our salad as the waitress forgot to bring it to us although she did it at once. She was also lovely and pleasant when serving us. Otherwise a great place for French cuisine.

Entrecôte is one my favourite places I have to try and not go back every time I want to go out for food! They do breakfast, lunch and dinner!! I’ve only had breakfast and lunch but have heard the dinner is incredible as well. The French toast was so delicious, usually with sweet breakfasts you can feel yucky or a bit sick but this is made so beautifully and all the flavours together are just perfect! The service is always a 10/10 and the almond cappuccino..... to die for! also the service is perfect! So attentive and lovely! 🥰

A wonderful Anniversary dinner!

My husband and I dined here on Saturday night, after I had come several times for lunch within the last 18mth period. We wanted a relaxed and casual yet sophisticated and high quality experience and Entrocte did not disappoint!

We were warmly greeted, and had a beautiful spot inside in the bistro area near the window (beautiful ambience!) We both ordered the famous steak frites (bottomless frites!!), followed by the equally famous lemon tart and almond cheesecake. Our meals were faultless. Steaks were cooked as requested and at $45, this is excellent value. The desserts finished off the meal perfectly and my husband, who isn’t usually a fan of lemon tart, was converted by this one in particular.

Staff were extremely helpful, friendly and attentive.

We both can’t wait to go back and this will be a regular dining spot for us from now on. Perfect for either a romantic dinner, dinner with friends, or similarly, a long lunch with your nearest and dearest.

😱Lizzie’s first impression: I really loved the ambience of this place - really felt like I was back in a neat little restaurant in France! I have been loving french food so this place was no different.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: You can't go wrong with the steak and the unlimited fries. Yes I said it - UNLIMITED fries. In saying that, they gave me so much on my first serve I didn't even have to ask for more. The steak was cooked nicely and tasted delicious. We ordered a side of salad too which was refreshing. They have a big selection of wine so you really can't go wrong.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy:
The flan was massive and is great for sharing - but was a let down. This is because it wasn't as smooth and as silky as I wanted it to be and it tasted more eggy than it should.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: A great place for date night as the place is dimmed and not too loud.
Chef To Eat Anyway
French restaurant. We had dinner in there. There are classic French dishes. The food was good . The dry age beef was awesome ,it was dried more than 46 days . They service was ok . It was good experience.

I had
The madame croque because it looked so good online but when I had it the cheese was mozzarella I think so the dish lacked favour sadly despite looking gorgeous. The chips were good crunchy how I like it. The green sauce was good too. Kind of want to try their steak next time.

A Parisian steakhouse, Entrecôte served delicious steak frites with a signature green herb sauce. I’ve been there for both brunch and dinner and both times I was impressed with the quality of their meals. I’ve tried a few of the dishes; steak frites, oysters, carpaccio scallops, beetroot tart tatin, as well as their desserts creme brûlée and profiteroles, and found all of them to be fresh, classy, delicious and beautifully presented. The amazing food coupled with the elegant ambiance made dining at Entrecôte a treat.

Have always visited entrecote for steak frites and it does reminds me of the ones in Paris. This parisian steak house overlooks the botanic garden. Be sure to try their bottomless brunch
Ralena
Presentation over taste- this sounds to be the philosophy of this restaurant. The presentation is curated, dishes look marvelous. The service is outstanding. However, they should do a bit more effort in order to bring the taste of the dishes to that level too. Definitely their steaks are good, but the signature green herbal sauce in which they drawn them is definitely not for every taste. It’s rather a particular something that’s acceptable to eat while still warm, once colder it’s just unbeatable. The fries were great but came cold. The dessert again looked great, the taste was average and nothing exceptional. But you kind of forget about all this, while the surroundings are so nice and the waters so polite and accommodating. Someone has a bit exaggerated as well when dimming the lights down- it was impossible to actually see what’s exactly in our dishes. Definitely give it a go, the atmosphere is nice especially if you want to impress your date or dining partner.

Its hardly a trip to Melbourne without a fancy Euro style meal. Having already scratched our itch for Italian, I decided that the Parisian Steakhouse and Cafe, Entrecote, situated near the royal botanical gardens would be a nice place to have dinner. Making a reservation beforehand, it was a relaxing stroll through the greenery that really set the mood for dinner.

4.5 stars 🌟
Absolutely loved our meal at Entrecôte and will definitely be returning - my partner is obsessed with their Steak Frites ($44.90)!

We have wanted to try this place ever since we came back from Paris and dined at Le Relais De L’Entrecote, the famous restaurant chain that serves only steak frites (no menu, they just ask how you want your steak cooked). Entrecôte really took us back to Paris; we loved the chic decor, French waiters and of course, the beautiful steak frites with the magical green sauce! Just like in France, the frites are ‘endless’ and we couldn’t resist ordering more just to make sure not a drop of that sauce went to waste!

I had the Miltraillette ($23.90) which is basically half a serve of steak frites on a baguette - as a devout lover of bread this was perfect for me but be warned that the bread is very hard so may not be enjoyable for everyone.

Dessert was also a huge highlight for me - I ordered the Fraises et Fromage ($17.90) which is a baked almond “cheesecake” with strawberries, sorbet and meringue. I’ve never had an almond cheesecake before and it was a revelation - so creamy but also with a hint of nuttiness that was so delicious. Loved all the other textural elements as well - just a fantastic well rounded dessert. Highly recommend!

Food was above average, but the waiting time of the dish to come is quite long...Cheese and Ham Toast and Egg Benedict are highly recommended!

I went there for brunch with my friends with 2 babies. The settings of the restaurant is not best for babies because it is not spacious that it is impossible to bring in the strollers or even to ask for a baby highchair. The food I ordered (I think it was an omlet with sourdough and simple salad) was super delicious. The eggs were super creamy and tasty. I will definitely visit this restaurant again next time, but without the babies..:)

Came here for breakfast. Lovely space and it really reminds you of being in Europe. Decent breakfast that is filling and nice coffee. Would come back
Linda
Rating this a 4.5 (bring back half star ratings zomato please)
With high expectations for this place, the entrees and service did not disappoint. The oysters were delicate and flavoursome, and the blini was refreshing and light. The snails - an absolute must have!! The garlic butter is 5/5 and even better with the complimentary bread. The tartare chips are a real treat - not the best tartare I’ve had but tasty.
However the steak was just ok but maybe cause expected it to be amazing, the sauce didn’t have much flavour but the steak was nicely seasoned. The brûlée was a bit runny too in some parts.
Service exceptional - can not fault.
A must visit for any melbournian.

One of the better French restaurants in Melbourne, but I came here specifically for the profiteroles, they're that good.
The pastry is light, fluffy and a little buttery and it's filled with the best vanilla bean ice cream. Like proper vanilla bean.
The dark chocolate sauce goes perfectly well with everything.
Fantastic dessert.

Love our brunch experience here! Nothing to complain about as the food was delicious, the drinks were great and the service was also brilliant!

Would love to come here for lunch one day! The menu looked great!

Puppy friendly, yummy food and good coffee. Staff are professional but very busy as it's a high turn over restaurant, but very hard to get there attention.
The New Fave
for it to serve breakfast with its gorgeous European-esque courtyard out the front which is ideal for. some morning sunshine. And as soon as I heard that there was a breakfast burger (with frites!) on the menu I knew I had to give it a try. Although on the occasion I went, I wasn’t quite hungover. enough to fully appreciate the breakfast burger, so instead I went for the omelette with herbs and Gruyere, with a side of smoked salmon. Entrecote is my local on Domain Road next to the Royal Botanic Gardens. The ambience is perfect of a little French restaurant with true authentic French waiters to match. You will find their happy hour between 4pm to 6pm is popular and the front terrace is often packed.
$2.50 freshly shuckled oysters and Champagne cocktails to compliment it is a great pre-dinner and dinner venue with gorgeous European music.
Will always come back for more.
Thanks for having me Entrecote.
EmLou86
We visited entrecôte for breakfast on a Tuesday. Being a weekday we got a table immediately and the lovely staff sorted out our coffees while we waited for friends. Three of us had the Benedict with ham hock terrine and apple cider hollandaise, and one went for three royal Benedict with smoked salmon. The meals were delicious, very nicely sized but not enormous so you need to roll out. Coffees were great and the fresh orange juice was a standout. Next I’ll be back at happy hour for the cheap oysters and champagne!

Dinner here on a week night. Surprisingly the restaurant was packed, so I would book beforehand.
In summary:
- Service = 4.5
- Atmosphere = 4.5
- Food = 3.5
- Value for money = 3
We ordered the goat cheese salad, “steak frites”, creme brûlée & profiteroles. The salad could have been improved with more goats cheese. The steak was little bit dry and over powered by the herb sauce. (I would have preferred no herb sauce and just mustard!). The fries were a highlight as well the Creme brûlée (although it was a little bit watery(?)). There’s not many bottles of wine under $100 and it appears the restaurant operates on 100% mark up. Overall, $250 for 2ppl which I can’t justify for the food, even though the service and atmosphere is above average.
Theycallmemaggie
A beautifully cooked steak paired with bottomless fries makes for quite the compelling reason to visit Entrecote. But as I discovered during my most recent visit which took place on my birthday earlier this year, the raspberry mille feuille is also high up there on the list of reasons to visit.

Birthday Lunch
It’s been on the bucket list for a while now and it turned out to be a lovely afternoon. Baguette and lescure butter no way to go wrong. Freshly shucked pacific oysters and scallops. Both delicious! For main we have the classic selections confit duck which lacked flavor, cheeseburger which was very strong with vinegar flavor from the pickle and of course steak frites. Let a little to be desired. The fries were delicious.
The staff and atmosphere is second to none but the food really I could go without. Not really anything to rave about. It’s off the bucket list at least.
Uncle Rico
Delightful restaurant in great location. Excellent service and luckily we made it just in time for happy hour! Steak was well cooked and bottomless frites were fabulous, but the bernaise sauce was the best. So good. Duck cooked to perfection. For dessert, tarte tatin and creme brûlée were delicious and generous portions.

Gorgeous cafe with delicious coffee, super nice service and a lovely cosy atmosphere. Music in the background is decent and not too loud and it’s warm!

Is Alfred Place Entrecote closed down permanently or renovating therefore temporary closure? If temporary, when does it re-open? I am devastated to be away from my favourite French place

It is marked as permanently closed on Zomato.
Places I Eat
Good service and nice interior. Ordered the steak and fries. The steak itself was cooked nicely, however very tasteless. The sauce with it was also quite tasteless. Not worth the $45. Wouldn’t order again. Won’t be back anytime soon.

My friend and I checked out Entrecôte recently, it had been on my list for some time so was excited to finally try it. Situated across from the botanical gardens in a beautiful converted terrace building, the restaurant itself is really nice. The menu was pretty classic brunch, we both had the folded eggs with mushroom which was great. Although the food was good, the service was incredibly slow, we waited so long to be given menus, water, to order and to pay. There seems to be enough staff but it was difficult to get attention. I would be keen to come back and try the Acai bowl though.
Mi55Bee
Had their infamous golden folded eggs, croissant with wilted spinach and thyme mushrooms. So good! Great coffee and fantastic service from staffs. A special place with different interior rooms, nice relaxing spot for weekend by the park

Currently lying in bed clutching my stomach because I’m so damn full (in the good way)
This place was top notch. Environment was great. Very Parisian setting. Me and my boyfriend ordered the French onion soup & scallops and pork belly for entrees. Warning I was already full by this point. Portions are generooooous. I should’ve stopped there, but oh no. Next we had the steak frites and organic chicken, with a side of mash potato. The mash potato was 95% buttery goodness (as it should be)

But the real winner here.... drum roll please. The glorious creme brûlée. A part of me died and went to heaven. Seriously.

You will feel like a Parisienne inside its gorgeous venue. Their steak was average but the bottomless french fries were one of the best fries we've had. Three cheese gnocchi was yum. On a different occasion we had the house rosé, oysters, terrine platter, croquettes and the cheeseburger. We had a lovely fridate but our stomachs were upset following the dinner. I suggest the kitchen to take better care of raw food in summer.

Really nice rendition of the original Entrecôte in which it was inspired. Though you'll never be able to replicate walking around the streets of Paris to get to Le Relais de l’Entrecôte on the 6th Arrondismond, the venue here is pretty nice and reminiscent of a french bistro (without it trying to be a replica of the original). The cooking of the steak is on point and the sauce, though it was several months between the times I had one and then the other, I'd say is also spot on. Chips are nice and the salad is lightly tossed in that delicious mustardy french dressing. Good wine on offer. Bottomless chips and salad. Can't argue with any of that. Highly recommended.

Such a nice place to eat. Food was great and location was perfect, right across from the botanic gardens. Staff were extremely helpful and seated us at a table with pram access. They even tried their best to cheer up our fussy little girl today. Eventually i had to sit outside with my daughter while staff brought the meal to our new table. They didnt make us feel like a nuisance at all! Plenty of families eat here and i can see why! Would recommend this place to all parents.

I’d already rehearsed what I’d say to the waitstaff before Pocket Rocket arrived and it was something along the lines of: “I know it’s foolhardy to ask for something that doesn’t contain onion and garlic in a French restaurant, but…is there anything on the menu that doesn’t?”

THE BEST RESTAURANT EVER if you want a chiselled jawline. If you want a defined jaw, order the STEAK FRITES. You'll be chewing for days. I could barely cut my steak with a knife. I wish I was exaggerating but my knife wouldn't go through the 2 end slices of steak as they were smaller and even more tough. ...and before you go assuming, she must have ordered her steak well done, nope, I ordered my steak MEDIUM-RARE!!! Awful. The green herb sauce is lovely but it doesn't save the dish. The only way it could would be if the steak came in a large, deep bowl of soup and that soup was Entrecôte's homemade butter and herb sauce. The French fries are yummy but they taste just like McDonald's fries without the MSG guilt. I really enjoyed the Lemon Tart. It provided a much-needed tartness (literally) relief. It was sharp in taste. Towards the end it became ever so slightly too sour as the lemon custard to pastry ratio is a little one-sided. It was light, refreshing and tangy. You pay for the location, ambiance and decor. It really is a lovely spot, especially sitting at the tables outside on a warm night. The South Yarra restaurant is tropical-chic in design and has a soothing atmosphere. Also, highly #Instagramable!

Entrecote! Great place if your after some French cuisine. Their signature dish is the steak with a "pestoish" kind of sauce, French fries and a side salad. Probably next time I would get the sauce on the side as I'd prefer to pour it over the meat myself. Dissapointed I didn't try any of the desserts as they all sounded delicious. Great selection of French wines also. The waitress we had was very knowledgeable in regards to paring wine with our meals. I will endeavour to return ( and order desert this time).

Lovely venue with a very French feel. On a nice day it is the perfect location for brunch, perusing the weekend paper and a spot of people watching.

I dined here tonight ( impromtu dinner) the service was impeccable, the food delicious and the surroundings glorious!! I can't fault it. Keep up the good work!!

You can't say you've been to entrecôte without having the signature steak and frites. The sauce on that dish is beautiful! The restaurant atmosphere is also very nice 👍

It's really amazing walking into this old house with many rooms for dining. Really nice service and good french food. I had the pork loin and it was so tender and soft. The roasted apple was a perfect match and not too mushy. The Crème brûlée was not too sweet. The sugar layer was thin and crispy, really good.

We went here for a girlfriends birthday! Ambience was relaxed and furnishings made you feel like you were in somebodies home (super cute!). I ordered the cheeseburger with fries - and yes if you haven't heard already... unlimited fries as an option is available! The burger bun was soft with a juicy meat patty. The fries were super crispy and didn't disappoint. The special green sauce; the 'signature Entrecote sauce' really enhances the burger flavour. Dessert was crème brulee.. all I can say is O..M..G.. I ordered one just for myself, however don't get hungry eyes... it can be definitely shared between two. Would definitely go here again. Only con was the place can get noisy so sometimes hard to converse.

Went here at my daughter's request for her birthday. It was busy. A good sign. Food was nicely prepared but service was not quite up to par, especially for the price. Portions were modest. (probably a good thing as rich french sauces are best consumed in moderation).I had the signature steak. My wife had the burger and my daughter ordered gnocchi which ended up very mushy and not at all the expected defined pillows of bliss. My wife and I concurred after a taste and we asked our waiter if we could provide some feedback to management especially as it was a $36.90 dish and my daughter had felt she couldn't eat it. After not one but two prompts to our waiter, eventually Matthew came to our table. We explained our concern about the gnocchi however rather than accepting our position, he berated us explaining that we had eaten three quarters of the dish. This was surprising as firstly we simply wished to provide some feedback and secondly this was clearly not the case. Unfortunately as the table had been cleared by that time it was not possible to prove otherwise. He then lectured us that "french gnocchi was soft and made of flour vs italiian gnocchi which was harder". I explained that we understood that and pointed out that it was a matter of expectations as defined pieces should still have been there and we did not expect the dish to taste like "mushy porridge". After some minutes he went away and returned with our bill saying that "he doesn't normally do this but he had deducted the gnocchi from the bill".This was good of him but the goodwill was quickly negated by the additional 5 minute belligerent diatribe that came afterwards. -A wasted opportunity for him to reverse the situation. A pity for the restaurant.

If you feel like steak and fries this place is perfect. Lemon tart is the best I've had. Extensive wine list and an amazing room to dine in!

Food: only the barramundi is good! The steak of the steak frites dish was overdone and so tough, took forever to chew. Coffee was good too, not too acidic.

Service: alright. They weren't the friendliest, you could tell often they weren't all that happy to help and was just giving off bad vibes.

Ambiance: yeap, that's probably the only reason you should come here (only if that's your priority).

Came here for the famous steak frites and to me it was overrated. The steak itself is nice ..but the sauce was not to my liking. It tasted like a coconut thai sauce which does not go well with steak (should've asked for it on the side) the restaurant is on the pretentious side but some waiters are nice and professional. Better steak elsewhere in my opinion like rockpool bar and grill.

Totally love this frenchies 💕😁
Came here for romantic dinner. Love the dim lightings and interior. Cosy as much!
Their frites are soooo addictive and is bottomless!!! 😱🤤🤤🤤
Steaks are good too.
I will go back there for their brekkie because i heard the place has different feel in the day time.

Some of the best steak in the city. If you can look past the Steak Frites you're insane. I don't know what magic goes into that green sauce but it's heavenly. Service is always on point, food is spectacular and the wine list and desserts are also worth visiting for.

Don't miss this place if you're a fan of a good steak.

Entrecote has some lovely and professional staff, who are very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to selections. The bottomless fries are a real crowd pleaser, and are cooked well. The meat is cooked to as requested.

Hands down the steak frites are my favourite meal in Melbourne. It's pricey but perfect for a celebratory meal. The atmosphere is always lovely and romantic and the desserts are such a treat.

One of my favourite places. Sure friendly staff, delicious breakfast martinis and butter laden escargot, I have never been disappointed by anything here!

Absolutely amazing! French inspired interior made the experience extra special.
Service was great.
Oysters were fresh.
Steak was tender
Beef cheeks were melting in our mouths.
Profiterole dessert was a perfect ending.
High Reccomended!

The Sunday lunch occasion with friends provided a small window of French life in a bistro setting. The place is certainly different than in its previous guise as Lynch's. The food is good and the service excellent . The prices perhaps on the expensive side. $44 for a flat steak with French fries would be cheaper at the nearby pub.

This place does ace steaks and fries to your hearts content. I love the set up here, there's a very classy vibe and the waiters are lovely. Would recommend this as a date place or just a trendy place to go with good friends for a 'treat yourself' kind of day !

went for brunch. can't speak for other dishes but the champagne soaked strawberries and brioche french toast is to die for. would return just for this dish

Visited for dinner with my boyfriend on a Friday night. We had a booking for 6.30 but arrived early and had no issues being seated at our table.
All the staff were french and I am not sure if this always happens on the weekend or because it was Bastille Day but there was live music outside the front of the restaurant.
Between my partner and I we ordered the King Louis Croquettes, the steak frites, the tenderloin from the butcher's special and for dessert the pear and almond tart and the 'Mont Blanc' along with 3 glasses of wine. Everything was of very high quality and very delicious.
I would highly recommend the tenderloin steak as it is was very tender. This was made even more obvious once compared to the steak frites steak.
For all of this, with a $45 saving from the entertainment book, it cost us $150. A fairly reasonable amount for steaks.

Best birthday cake EVER!!! It was chocolate mousse style with raspberries folded through the middle and had a chocolate hazelnut base, decorated perfectly with gold leaf. I came to Entrecôte for my 40th birthday with 8 family members. The staff were lovely, the food was cooked to order (steak). Perfect night.
Food ✅✅✅✅
Service ✅✅✅
Location ✅✅✅✅

Good vibe, I had a a good time with friends but I don't think it worth the price. I ordered the fish, small portion and really simple, it was under-cooked in the middle, in summary I have had better for less price.
Those who ordered the special steak were really happy with it, the PLUS is that it comes with unlimited fries and salad.
The cream brulle was the best dish.

Takes one bad experience to erase all the good ones. I’ve been going to entre for about 2-3 years now and I’ve only just now had awful service. The bald, old French man that waits the tables on the porch at the front is the rudest staff member I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting. They weren’t busy at all but we were told we couldn’t sit outside because there weren’t enough tables but by the time everyone had arrived (5 of us), 3 tables had cleared so I went to ask the man if we could sit there and he simply gestured towards the patio so I walked up to him and I said, “excuse me are we able to sit there?” But before I could finish my sentence, he said “I pointed over there 3 times, I cleared it for you.” Then walked off. I wish I could say the food improved the service but my entire brunch was ruined by him and it was a friend’s homecoming. Will never return because it’s not worth the stress of seeing such a horrid person.

Went there for dine looking forward to have their infamous steak and frittes speciality. It did not dissapoint!! Steak was nicely charred and medium, thou I'd prefer more rare. The highlight was their pomme frittes (ie: french fries ) it was SO good!!! And its bottomless. Yes bottomless as I've heard, thou we didnt get more since we were saving some space left in our tummy for dessert.
Ordered Creme brule for dessert and it was spot on. Soft velvety and not too sweet. Just hit the right spot.

Almost forget to mention that we ordered french onion soup and escargot for entree and it hit right the spot too.

Love their restaurant ambiance and their jazzy tunes brought you straight to day in paris. Service was excellent too.

Highly reccomended the place, will come back for more.

Friendly staff (all French and happy to chat). Great steak with the yummy classic entrecôte sauce (not dissimilar to the one in Paris). Desserts were so good. Especially the crème brûlée.

Much better rapport qualité/prix than France Soir.
Also tried their breakfast a few weeks ago and it was great too. The building is very French looking, music is french, the perfect atmosphere to bring me back home. Few little mistakes by staff but nothing important and all is well when service is friendly. Looking forward to go again to try the steak tartare!

Great service, beautiful atmosphere (I recommend sitting outside!!) and delicious food, what more could you ask for!?

I've visited Entrecôte a couple of times now for lunch and breakfast and had a great experience both times.

For breakfast I recommend the folded eggs with herbs on toast - the eggs were yum and buttery, the bread used for the toast was delish. For lunch, try a baguette and side of chips!
