Review Ying Thai 2 - Melbourne

Arthur Jonathan
One of the best Authentic Thai Restaurant in Melbourne! Been coming to Ying Thai regularly for years and i can say that their consistency in cooking their dishes is superb! One of my favorites are the Crispy Pork Skin Salad (Yum Sam Grop) and their Pad Thai! So sooo good 🤤🤤 Their other dishes are great too as you can see in some of my pics below 🤤 You can’t miss this restaurant if you’re visiting to Melbourne! Love Thai Food! 👌🏻👌🏻 P.S. They have a parking space in the back that no one knows 🤫

The food is authentic and delicious especially the yellow crab curry. Service was friendly but could be more attentive. We were seated upstairs and whilst the room was beautiful, two large parties were attending (one with 5 screaming kids) and the noise was deafening. Left the venue with a headache.

Not sure if the management changed but the food quality definitely has changed! The pandan chicken used to be good but now there's no fragrant of pandan at all, just oily fried chicken and it's not cheap too. In fact the place is pretty expensive for Thai dishes, probably because of the location. I'm talking about 16 for a rather small plate of salad, enough for 1 person. The Pad Thai was probably best of all the dishes we ordered but many other Thai places are as good for less price and easier parking. I'm not coming back..

Authentic Thai food. Tong yum is spicy and lots of lemon grass, lime, chilli, spicy tangy deliciousness! Must try! Green curry was very creamy thick and just the way Thai food should be. Coconut drink was very refreshing just comes frozen so you may need to add some water maybe The pandan chicken and crab cakes were yummy! Fish was also 😋 delicious What more i can say! Come here! Its deicious! Value for money too

Food was amazing, flavours very strong. Great variety of Thai dishes, and everything smelled incredible, too!

They have renovated and expanded but I have to say that it's not as good as I remembered anymore. The coconut rice and Gai Hor were still yum but Pad Thai was lacking flavours and the Red Duck Curry was milder than before? With many good Thai restaurants popping up, I probably wouldn't travel all the way to Carlton to have this.

Went back here after 10 years and still tasted superb and great service as always

Our favorite Thai restaurant in Melbourne. Gosh so yummy. Recommended.

Insta: melbfoodie_mark
YT: MelbFoodieMark
-
Great place for cheap flavourful Thai dishes! I've been here several times and my favourites are Pad Kee Mao and Soft Shell Crab Papaya Salad. Pad Kee Mao was savoury with a bit of spicy kick. Soft Shell Crab Salad was just perfect - never knew deep fried crabs go so well with papaya salad! Definitely worth a visit

Ordered through door dash and the food came relatively quick, and upon arrival was still warm. Although the portions looked small, there was actually a good amount!

Tom Yum Hotpot with Seafood mix 4.5/5 - the taste of lime definitely was evident but did not overpower the other spices and spicy notes of the tom yum soup. The seafood variety was good and there were a good amount for two people as each had 2 pieces (fish, mussels) with a few pieces of squid and a good amount of mushrooms. As you get down to the bottom you can taste more of the lemongrass and the peppercorns but overall was a well balanced thai flavour tom yum.

Crab stir fry with yellow curry 5/5 - They definitely didnt cheap out on the crab meat, and so I would say even though the dish was relatively pricey, it was worth it. Each spoonful had a good chunk of crab meat, and the curry gave it a nice umami and spice to the dish, yet can still taste the sweetness coming from the crab. The peppery notes from the scallions and greens also paired nicely, complementing the dish. Overall recommend if you feel like rewarding yourself!
Sense Of Food
Was craving some Thai food today. The weather's super cold and cloudy, so i was craving some warm soup. Not many places actually have Tom Jued Tao Hoo (clear soup with egg tofu, cabbage, minced pork/chicken with some other vegetables) on their menu. But I was so happy to find out that Ying Thai 2 Lygon does!

I ordered the Tom Jued Tao Hoo with Minced Chicken and it was delicious. I personally feel it's quite pricey considering it's $14.9 for one container of soup, egg tofu, veggies and a bit of meat. It did not come with rice. But I was craving it real hard that I no longer cared when I ordered haha.

The 🐟 Fish Tom Yum was also delicious. Loved the amount of chili 🌶 the chef had put into the soup. It was burning 🔥. But I loved it as chili and spice are my favorite! It did not come with rice either.

Overall, I liked it and wouldn't mind ordering it again when I crave for Thai food. It's just not something I'll order so often as it's quite pricey.

An Oldie but a goodie!

This Thai restaurant have been around for a long time now and everytime i visit it is always packed with people. They showcase authentic thai food at its best and it always a favourite. Be sure to make a booking as they can get quite busy

My favourite dishes are their thai gree curry, pad kha prao, and pad thai! Would always order this dishes everytime i visit.

Came here with friends for dinner as we enjoy Thai cuisine, plus I really wanted to try this place given it’s overwhelming popularity.

Overall impression of this restaurant, good food with standard serving size. Not too heavy on the coconut milk, and at least I could taste the flavour of the food rather than coconut milk flavour.
FoodieInMel
The dishes we ordered were quite delicious, service was quite efficient and friendly, only thing was they don’t accept pay pass, also charge quite high on the surcharge of the card payment.

I must say, for $15.90 this is the most generous portion of Chicken Pad Thai I’ve ever received. Great value and more importantly, fantastic taste. A great authentic Thai spot hustling amongst Italian cuisine on Lygon Street. With a little touch more friendlier service and bigger catering ability, Ying Thai 2 would well be on its way to being the best Thai restaurant in the Melbourne area. 5 stars regardless.
Srslyfoods
This is the best Thai food in Melbourne. Everything is amazing, from the crab meat to coconut rice. They do get pretty busy so get in early!
Debby
One of the oldest establishments on Lygon street and for good reasons! The food is authentic Thai and will tingle your taste buds. The two dishes you must try are the crispy skin pork salad and the crab curry. Make sure to make booking especially during dinner time.

The food was pretty average. Tom yum was so bland. The coconut juice is far too sweet. Service not so good. The restaurant itself was pretty narrow and when we come in, we were asked to waited near the counter for a while while there are table were ready. On top of it, they only accept cash for lunch and have their atm there for “your convenience”. It charged $2.80 per transaction and not sure why it only gave me $20 for the first withdrawal. Then I had to do it again with additional fee.

Last Sunday I have lunch with my wife and my daughter. we have order two curries dish. One with rice and one with Roti. The waitress have recorded 3 orders instead of 2. When the dish arrived, I have attempted to correct their mistake. The waitress has rushed to scold me and said that I have make the mistake. Her poor attitude and unprofessionalism make me very uncomfortable. At the end, the kitchen still give me a wrong dish. Please do not attend this restaurant unless you have no choice.

Had dinner twice here, had diarrhea twice 😭😭😭😭

This restaurant was very popular and crowded on Wednesday night. We went there without booking but they welcomed us and provided friendly services.

I like the tea set and plates of elephants.
It was great experience and nice to come with friends and children who can't eat much spicy food.

I have a terrible experience today with very bad customer service. Me and my friends went to the restaurant at around 5 pm, we been waiting for a long time just serve us a bowl rice and nothing else! And there even have hair in it! Also the pad Thai noodle I order came with a small white rough stuff. I been here 4times, today was the worse! I won't coming again. 😡
Eats With Kayli
The food was alright and pretty good portions for the price.

What was disappointing was the service, which was extremely unfortunate. The staff were not friendly and ignored us a few times when we tried to get their attention. As we were paying for our $60+ bill, they shook their heads right in front of us as we passed them a $100 bill (FYI they are cash only during lunch). I’m just really disappointed with how their customer service was, and think that it should definitely be looked into by their management.

Would not feel comfortable revisiting because of this. :(

Pad Thai ($15.90)
Pud see ew ($15.90)
Green curry ($14.90)
Seafood Tom yum ($18.90)
Overall ⭐️4/5 ⭐️
🍴Yummy authentic #thaifood at a reasonable price and we enjoyed all our chosen dishes. For the noodles, we preferred the chicken over the beef meat in terms of texture. The #seafoodtomyum came with quite a generous serving of seafood and was tasty despite us asking for less spicy. We also got the crispy pork vegetable dish and only minor complain is that the pork could have been crispier. Would recommend making a reservation on the weekends as it tends to get packed or go before the peak timings.
📍Ying Thai 2 @yingthai2lygon, 110 Lygon Street, Carlton, Melbourne, Australia
#cafehoppingkidsmelbourne

Been here so many time, when ever I feel like Thai food, I come here. The food here has strong flavour and is tasty. The serving size of the food is good and the price is good too. Service is just average.

Need to book in advance, but cannot book by Zomato ( I don’t know why, I failed)
Staff gave us very small table even we book in advance. Thanks to their speed to serve dishes then we have enough space to put plates.
Highly recommended coconut rice and sticky rice with coconut ice cream (soooo good)

I can not eat spicy food but ying thai is worthy a try. Everytime I feel like Thai food, this is my destination. The portion is big so it is better for sharing. However, the service is poor

Our family’s favourite Thai restaurant since the 1990’s. Their first restaurant was located at Richmond. Loves their Tom Yam Seafood soup In hotpot and the stirred fried beef with basil leaves and many more other dishes. Very authentic taste. Staffs are very efficient and friendly and prices are reasonable. Now only patronize the Carlton branch at Lygon Street since the Richmond branch had relocated to elsewhere.

Ying Thai 2 is located along Lygon street, we haven’t been here for a very long time and upon coming back this time it would seem that they have renovated the place.. It was a lot more modern and bright upstairs.. If you come here on a weekend or Friday night make sure you book as the place was packed.. We had the panang curry, Chinese broccoli with roast pork, pad see eu, glass noodle salad, larb and chicken wrapped in pandan leaf.. Food quality is pretty good, some of the dishes were quite spicy so if you can’t handle the heat be sure to request the kitchen to turn it down a notch.. The only downside was that table seating was limited to 1.5 hours as they are looking to seat other customers..
Other than that I would definitely come back as the food was good and the portions big..

Been coming here for many many years as me and my family love the food here especially tomyum and pandan chicken. The pork crackle is a must order too.

Came here with a group of my university friend for a catch up session. Food are delicious but portion can be quite small. Rice is free flow which is a bonus.

Food 4/5
Service 4/5
Environment 4/5

A nice Thai restaurant near the MU. Valuable and nice for the student group. We tried the Thai style steam fish which is the whole one and sour and spicy taste. We also tried the pineapple fried rice and Pad Thai, which are delicious. The green curry is normal but the size is big.

This is a very busy place which I’ve been to many many times, yet had never reviewed before.

Honestly, the food they served was once much better. In my opinion, the taste has taken a turn for the worse over the years. I remember a time when almost everything on their menu tasted amazing. Sadly, that’s not the case anymore.

I kept going back, hoping that they would be able to bring back the glorious flavours that had made them so popular. And I kept getting disappointed.

Don’t get me wrong, they are still delivering delicious meals. Just not to the level they used to be.

Service was quick as ever. Food okay. Easy choice if you’re craving for Thai.

Yup, yup, yup!!! You’re at the right place if you’re after delicious, authentic Thai. I know this when I had the first sip of my Tom Yum. These guys are the real deal.

Went for lunch on a Thursday and the restaurant was busy, but service wasn’t compromised at all. Highly recommended and will be back!

Ying Thai 2 is probably one of the best authentic Thai restaurant in Melbourne. They have the best coconut rice and the green curry is delicious. I love green plates that they have. I recommend booking on weekends as it can get busy. The place can also get noisy when you sit upstairs.
Deflykira
Best pad thai in town. The place is a bit cramped because there aren’t many seats inside. Not exactly comfortable to sit outside during winter but the food is worth it. I wish they partner with food delivery services.
Yulz
Been to this place for the second time and happy with both visit. We came back last Friday and ordered chicken wrapped in pandan leaves, seafood tom yum, and stir fry duck in holy basil. All really tasty and authentic. Too hungry to take pictures for the Tom Yum and duck stir fry... ha ha.

Decided to check out Ying Thai 2 on Lygon St as we were craving Thai food on a hot summer night.

We arrived at 5pm and the restaurant was already quite busy - we didn’t have a booking so we were required to leave by 6:30pm. By 6pm, they had already stopped taking in walk-ins as it was fully booked!

The restaurant is quite small and crowded, but they do have two storeys plus an outdoor seating area. It’s very cool inside, which is honestly all you really want on a hot day.

We ordered a variety of dishes between three people, including: pandan chicken, soft shell crab salad, pad thai, yellow curry crab and coconut rice. Everything was very authentic and flavourful, and portions were decent.

One of our favourites would have to be the pandan chicken appetiser - that chicken is so tender and succulent, and the pandan gives a nice fragrance. Plus, the sweet chilli sauce is the bomb!

The soft shell crab is amazing - so crispy and huge in size! It goes really well with the sweet and sour dressing.

The Pad Thai is also delicious. The sauce is sweet, and the variety of toppings with the silky noodles tastes so good!

The crab in yellow curry was divine. It’s rich and coconut-y, with a generous amount of crab meat! It’s got a nice spicy kick to it too - perfect with the coconut rice.

We also had an iced milk tea which was strong, sweet and fragrant - just as it should be.

Service is pretty fast, however we did have to wait a while for our final two dishes - the salad and the coconut rice - to arrive, which by that time we’d finished the rest of the dishes. Other than that, the staff are super friendly!

A really nice place for authentic Thai food at a moderate price! Definitely a place worth checking out if you’re craving Thai!

Used to be very nice thai restaursnt in Carlton,
But today I was dissapointed with the meal.
Brought my family to try thai food, but they lrt me down today.
Ordered;
- seafood tomyum pot (was nice)
- larna was also ok
- the stifry crispy pork with kailan (was tasteless)
- the pandan chicken was very oily and not as fragrant as it used to be
- the coconut rice was too sweet
Great restaurant that is usually busy during the evening, book in advance! Great food and quick service. Located about 5 minutes from the CBD. I recommend the Pad thai & Green curry.
Crabapples For Lunch
Great casual place for some hearty Thai food. Good amount of seating both indoors and sheltered outdoors and quite popular with the students living nearby. Prices are reasonable and food quality is pretty good - one of the places I'd considering dropping in on when I'm craving Thai food.

We dined here recently. Considering the reviews, this place was very underwhelming. The food was bland and not authentic. Both the green curry and our noodle dish contained random vegetables - carrot cut in little circles like it has been frozen, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage...what!? The sauce lacked any depth of flavour and just tasted like salt. The spring rolls were good.

Overall I would not recommend going out of your way to eat here.
Foodielover
Came here for quiet afternoon lunch with my friend. Seating is very comfortable and service is good. Order ch icken pad Thai and taste very nice. Would recommend this place
Lesley Luo
The popular and iconic Thai restaurant at Lygon Street. Just come here for a quick meal and reunion with friends. We ordered the crab, tong yum soup, leaf green and spring roll. The crab was amazingly fantastic, highly recommend! However, the tong yum soup was really spicy, though we already required the less spicy.
Linda
A good cheap Thai option that isn’t all it is raved to be really. The small price tag translated to a minimal serving size. Flavours were there, but stock standard also. A clean and minimal restaurant setting that offers a prompt service.
Connie
Very authentic and flavourful Thai food. We had the tom yum soup, pad see ew and the green curry. The tom yum had the perfect amount of spice and tasted great with the coconut rice. Really enjoyed the green curry too. I thought the serving size was really appropriate for the price! The restaurant had nice natural lighting as well :)
Some Bunee Loves Food
Came to this place for a friend's birthday and they have really nice Thai food here. The fried rice is nice but the Tom yum was really sour.

The food is delicious and I really love the green curry! The staff are friendly and the whole experience is great!I will definitely recommend this to others!worth trying!

We've been to Ying Thai many times, it is the best Thai food on Lygon Street.
They have 2 levels and they are always busy so please avoid peak time or book table before visiting them. Our favourite dishes are
-Pad Grapow (Chicken basil stirred fried)
-Pad Phong Karee (Crab with dried yellow curry )
-Tom Yum soup

Our all time thai place since high school. They refurnished the place so its more comfortable but the food has not changed, good tom yum gung and green red curries. Favourite dish was the crab meat curry stir fry, crispy pork and chinese broccoli.
Makan2Melbourne
Ying Thai 2 is a Thai restaurant located in Lygon street. The infamous crispy pork skin was the best. The crab meat in curry sauce was also really good. The pud thai was pretty tasty, too. The chicken in pandan leaves was a simple dish full of flavour. Their pork pud prik gang was a must order too. Their dishes were overall good. There wasn’t a dish that I didn’t like. They also offer free flow rice for the whole table! Definitely the perfect place for group dining.
Sunny Days Melbourne
This perpetually busy Thai eatery has a great reputation and I now know why. While the interior is drab and uninviting, the food and service more than make up for it. Service was warm and friendly. The food was served in record time - quite impressive!
The chicken with basil on rice was like crack (or some other form of illicit substance). It was addictive from the get go The chicken was well seasoned and the sauce was super tasty. Mix that up with fluffy jasmine rice and you will think you were in food heaven.
Can't wait to try their other items next time!
Lorna

Great thai food, had green curry , crispy pork with greens, bbq pork with sticky rice. Couldn’t fault anything. Fast service, reasonable prices. Would like to try chicken in pandan leaves and soft shell crab next time. They looked amazing
Chey_ct
My flatmate mentioned this place was good a couple of months ago when she went there because it was too long a queue for the Italian restaurant next door. So when my colleague suggested dinner here, I thought it must be the same place. We ordered the crab curry and the tom yum soup which were his favourites as well as pad thai, sticky rice, coconut rice and roti. The tom yum soup was good albeit it was a lot spicier than we anticipated since we asked for it to be mild. The crab curry was amazing. The crab was fresh and they did not skimp on the crab at all. We had a lot of crab. The yellow curry itself was average if not a little bit bland. The roti was excellent; it tasted like it was freshly made and it was not hard. But my favourite of the meal was the pad thai. It was slightly on the sweet side but I have a sweet tooth and it was just perfect for me. Both the sticky rice and the coconut rice were done well. The portions are generous here and I think it's value for money for what you're getting. The place feels a bit cosy, perhaps because it's very busy. Service is fantastic. Overall, it was a great experience and we certainly enjoyed our evening there.
Anna
Favourite Thai place in Melbourne - reasonably priced and the food is authentic with just the right amount of kick! It’s always packed so make sure to book a table. Tried once on recommendation and have become regulars ever since!

I returned to Ying Thai 2 for a weekday lunch after an absence of many years, and was happy to find that the food is as good as I remember. For entree, we had the gai hor bai toey or chicken in pandan leaves which was pretty good. The soft shell crab som tum had generous portions of tasty crab and papaya salad. Pad thai was delicious, the tamarind flavours came through wonderfully and the rice noodles were well cooked. Penang curry was not bad, and crab curry was delicious (recommend having the latter with roti). A great place for Thai, excellent value and very helpful staff. Food comes out relatively quick too which is a bonus when you're on a lunch break :)

Quality of food was pretty good overall but what was absolutely horrendous was the amount of food. Specifically, we ordered a serving of the prawn and seafood salad and there were literally 2 prices of prawn and 3 pieces of calamari.

Gave feedback to the staff and their only reaction was pointing to a sign at the counter that said “our prices for prawn have increased.” No apologies, just kept pointing.

Absolutely terrible, and although I would’ve gone back for the food, would never go back because of this experience.

I’m starving to eat thai food yesterday, so yeah we eat here and ordered skin pork and begie stir fried with pork belly. It’s actually my first time to eat here, but this place was really nice, the food was appetising with a generous portion for some meal.
Steven Yuniansyah Suyanto
Unbelieveable. The taste reminds me of Bangkok and the TomYum soup is bloody delicious. I really love this restaurant. This is my first time to eat thai food in Melbourne and i love it.
Melissa
Tasty Thai food at a decent price.
Ordered a Pad Thai which was about $15, but the portion was big so it's good for sharing. The taste was great, I would've preferred it if it was slightly less dry and the pork was a little chewy but I enjoyed the flavours.
Jox
Been coming here for a LONG time and I’m never disappointed. Always a hit and reasonably priced. They accept bookings so make sure you make one before going especially if it’s on a weekend.
Pradeep Gunasekaran
Soft shell crab was good ,Tom yum soup was average while the fish cakes were bad . Will definitely visit again . Soft shell crab is a must try . Ambience and service are above average. Always crowded so get in early
Descartesmuse
A really tasty Thai venue with a great menu selection.

Whether it be lunch or dinner, you'll definitely fund singing you like. This place is much more than your typical Thai restaurant in its menu.

It's very popular, so just be mindful of that. If you can get in, uber eats maybe? Lol
Jenny
One of the best Thai food restaurant. I’ve been here with my boyfriend for over 2 years and we can’t stop to come here. They have lunch special and they taste good it’s just the portion is smaller. Their som tum and Tom yam are yummy, just like the one I had in Thailand. For drinks, you can’t run away from Thai milk tea. Even though it too sweet for me it still very good.
Kacangma
We ordered the slightly non ordinary Thai dishes today. Soft shell crab with papaya salad, bbq pork skewers with sticky rice and chicken wrapped in pandan leaves. I love the flavours. A very good balance between salty, sweet, sour and spicy. The coconut rice is just perfect. We will return for other dishes in the future.

Food is really good! We went for lunch and their lunch menu although limited but reasonable and very good portions! Always enjoyed their food
MeganEatsEverything
Taste wise, very satisfied! The only drawback is that their dishes tend to be on the sweeter side, but still pretty good.
- Crabmeat dish (can’t remember the exact name)
- Chinese broccoli stir fry
- Basil Leaf and Chilli pork stir fry
- Chicken green curry
The dishes ordered were above average and a suggestion, try the Coconut rice. It is VERY fragrant, pairs well with their main dishes!!

Worst customer serive experiece ever!!!

Came here after work and ordered a snapper with garlic, pepper and oyster sauce along with tom yum soup, spring roll, pad thai.

The food overall was over cooked. But the worse part of all was the snapper. The snapper was supposed to be with garlic, pepper and oyster sauce. But the dish came out to be extremely spicy with fresh chilli all over the fish. We talked to the staffs and they responded rudly and question us why did we order Tom Yum soup as it was spicy too. The attitude of the staffs were rude and unfriendly. They didnt offer us for the dish to be returned and said that we ate half the dish while we had a try each with 4 people and realised this dish was not what we were expecting. Their respond was that the chilli was garnish only and they are not hot but the result was that the fish became overly spicy and uneatable

Been here for few times always busy and packed, better to have reservation if you’re coming as a large group. Their Pad See Ew is my favourite. Overall nice food and good services.
Tasty Eaters
I always come here all the time, mostly for birthday, because is still the best thai food, favorites for my whole family, taste always persistent, Yummy food, good portion, always go home with full tummy and very happy, nonetheless we always comeback here for many years to come.

This place is famous for their pad thai, so we had to give it a go. We tried prawns and also beef pad thai. Beef used was very chewy, not up to standard. They also served our dishes with orange instead of lime, not sure if that is the way it is supposed to be. Also got surcharged on the credit card which is annoying. Apart from that food and experience was pretty good, I might go back, but then again for the same money there is better food out there
J-acqui
One of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne but so hard to get a table (understandably). Our go to's are - crab yellow curry (I'm salivating just thinking about it), pineapple fried rice and seafood tom yum. We tried the noodles once (pad see ew) and weren't impressed so we stick with the above tried and tested formula. I have also heard the sticky rice dessert is amazing. Don't go here if you value good service - you go here solely for the food
Split The Bill
Came here for a catch up with work colleagues as we had a craving for Thai.
We ordered the chicken satay, curry, coconut rice, asian veggies which were delicious. Unfortunately the red duck curry was not that flavoursome.
Kau Chun Charmaine
Pad thai and green curry are really nice and authentic! Love the crab meat dish so much, definitely recommend! Coconut juice is a tiny bit sweet but still good.

The food is perfect, price also very resonable, but the serivce is terrible. We sitted in uperlevel, the staff didn’t do nothing but sat there staring blankly.

Thai eats on Lygon st.

Ambience: The place has 2 floors, though the 2nd floor is much quieter and has a bit more space. Overall ambience is pretty nice and cosy.

Service: The staffs are friendly, food came out reasonably quick.

Food: Been here a few times and it's always left me with good mood. I especially like their pad thai, large portion perfect taste although it was once too salty but they gladly offered me a change which was yum. Their tom yum soup is served under candles so it stays hot, and is again yum. One dish i really love is their pork/fish skin salad (prefer fish) with seafood which was really fresh and savory as i love the sauce, crispy fish skin, juicy seafood, nutty cashew and refreshing cabbage. This is really a must try here. Had their stir fried vegs as well which was pretty good but nothing special. Their wrapped in pandan chicken is also a must order so juicy, fragrant and flavorful.
[UPDATE]

The food were all satisfactory, aside form the soft shell crab salad which we found to be too sour. However, the service was really slow, menu wasn't given when we were seated, there was no one to take our order so we had to wait despite being really hungry and food also took a long time. The reason to this was because there was only one person serving when the place isn't even half full. It was past lunch time and so I was a bit disappointed with this. However I'd give points for the food quality and taste, but would love to have better service at noon.

Price: reasonable for taste and portion.

YUM: Gai Hor Bai Toey (pandan chicken) and Yum Sam Grob (crispy skin salad)
NAH: none(follow for more!)

xx、 joelle

Visited very late at night after going to a comedy show at the Trades Hall down the road. We just stumbled on this place and thought we'd give it a go as we were pretty hunrgy and "anything will do" but turns out we hit the jackpot as this place was amazing. The service was fast. The Pad Thai was a huge serving, the seafood red curry had tonnes of flavour and wasn't too spicy and we also shared a salad which I've forgotten the name of but was definitely on the spicy side of things but loved it. Will come back for:
+ Marinated chicken in pandan leave
+ Tom Yum
+ Red duck curry
+ Thai Ice Milk Tea

This place is our “go to” place for reliably balanced, and flavour packed Thai food. The thing that these guys get right is the balance of flavour between the sours, chilly and their use of fresh ingredients. The chicken in pandan leave is a must try here (flagrant, tender and delicious), and the Tom yum a great entree to get the mouth salivating and the taste buds going. The duck red curry had a load of fresh fruits in it (lychees, pineapples) and as I was not usually that into sweeter mains, was quite surprise to find that I quite like the balance here. The prawn balls were good, but after a few, they felt a bit stodgy. The Ice thai white tea was a great drink to accompany the meal. Service was prompt and non fussy as usual, and the food came out quickly. Will be back soon.
Considering the good reviews we were looking forward to this place but was however disappointed. The food is generally mediocre. The pad thai was soggy and bland. The seafood salad Yum Sam Grob with crispy pork skin had little seafood and mostly “pork skin” which tasted straight out from a packet. The green curry also lacked depth and flavour. Service was also rubbish. They sat us upstairs and was no where to be found after we made our initial order. Perhaps we didn’t order the right dishes but we’ve definitely had better Thai elsewhere and won’t be coming back.

For people who like thailand cuisine in Melbourne, this is a place that you need to stop by and try! One of the best place to eat authentic thailand cuisine. The place is always crowded especially when it comes to dinner time. The price is also reasonable and the staff are very friendly.

Food:
1. coconut rice ($AUD 3.50 per head and you can get free refill as many as you want) its very delicate, sweet and fragrant.
2. Poo Nim Tod Grob (deep fried soft shell crab served with homemade sweet chilli sauce it) - one of the entree thats been very popular because its very crispy, crunchy, not too oily and the chilli sauce is really balancing the taste. It cost you only $AUD 9.90
3. Tom Jurd Tai Hoo Moo Sub (clear soup with egg tofu and marinated minced pork) - It cost you only $AUD 10.90

4. Ka-Nar Moo Grob (Stir-Fried Chinese Broccoli with crispy pork) - one of the famous classic thailand menu that people usually order. the portion are not really big but the crispy pork was really good!its moisture, soft, and it like melted in your tongue. It cost you $AUD 16.90

The staff always give a good service eventhough they were busy. The restaurant also have outdoor seatings too..

Before you come to restaurant, make sure you make a reservation by calling them otherwise its going to be hard to get a place as it is a busy restaurant especially in weekend.

#BHAsFoodDiary

You can’t really fault this place. It delivers quality Thai food at grease lightning speed! Seriously, our food order came within 5 minutes. The duck curry had generous amount of duck meat. You could skip the crabmeat omelette, that was quite average. The crabmeat curry and papaya salad looked good tho!

Came here on a Sunday night and loved the food. The papaya salad and the chicken panang was delicious and the Tom yum hotpot was great. Service was good and food came out fast. Cash only so make sure to bring some notes. Will be back.

The food here is pretty good, but the service is poor. I just walked in to order take-away and the girl takes my order and then wanders off without a word and starts giggling with her friends and playing with a kid behind the counter. So I wait a minute or so and she doesn’t look at me once or come back, so I assume that she’s put the order through and I’ll pay when I pick it up. She comes out about ten minutes later to clear some plates from the outside tables and sees me. She tells me that she wanted me to pay first, although swears she’s put the order through. After I pay, she tells me it will be another fifteen minutes, like they always do when you place an order. If they want me to pay, don’t make me to wait like an idiot at the counter while you mess around. And don’t lie to me once you finally get around to asking for my money. I have ordered food here a lot, despite the rude staff, but will look elsewhere for Thai food going forwards.

Food is delicious and well priced. Some of my favourite dishes are the chicken parcels, tom yum soup and simple green curry. If you are looking for a very good, reasonably priced Thai restaurant, look no further.

Always my favourite Thai restaurant in Melbourne and never complained for having to travelling a bit out from the city just for having its authentic Thai food. My personal favourite dish is the yellow curry crab meat, though have encountered at least two times the situation when I booked at 8 but being told this dish was sold out on spot.

Ying Thai 2 has been my favorite place for Thai food. However their food are abit inconsistent after the renovation. So finger crossed that theh gonna fix it soon.

Yum sam grob with pork skin - unfortunately we have to sent it back because the crackling taste old. But staffs were nice and let us swap it with other dish.

For noodle, go for Pad thai or Pad kee mow (very spicy)

If you are looking for something for tastefull, Duck red curry (they have some vegies in it too)

Tom yum was a bit spicier than usual.

Looking for something unique? Gang som cha aom kai tod is your go to dish! Its tomato based soup with omelete and seafood. Please not that this is a bit spicy but its very nice

Fish lover must try the Pla neung ma-now. Fish cook perfectly and the seasoning was spot on (very refreshing taste)

But definately try the Yun sam grob with pork skin. Maybe we just had some badluck today.
