Review Soul Cafe - Melbourne

Capricorn
We are thankful to have found this cafe serving early breakfast on a Sunday when everywhere else is closed or open much later. Nice coffee and hot chocolate served with marshmallow by friendly service staff. Very rare these days to see happy service staff, not grumpy or rude. Only cons was we walked out smelling like greasy fried bacons, perhaps look at good exhaust fans. We will be back, keep up the good work and continue to serve with your big smile!

A quick bite eatery with nicely loaded bacon and egg sandwiches. Good Coffey and generous milkshakes.

There are so many good reviews for this place that I hate to give the place a bad one. Especially as nearly all my reviews to date have been glowing. Unfortunately, my experience here was terrible. I was with a friend and we enquired about the breakfast special and if we could substitute an item. The guy at the door said yes and rushed us in. It was a bit on the rude side. The woman serving was a horror. I asked the same thing of her and she told us to take a seat. We did and no one came to take our order. When we finally got someones attention, the woman lied and said that she had not told us to take a seat. This woman was that nasty that we left in a hurry in fear that things were going to get heated. Unforgivably bad service.

My son and i walked in, he had just finished from basketball game and was worn out and sweaty. They gave him the dirtiest look and told him he wasnt following the dress code and proceeded to kick him out. Absolutely pathetic.

Breakfast time and this was my choice for the day. The menu displayed outside helped as I walked with my head spinning on which place to dine at. I really wanted something simple so ordered the 'build your own eggs' component and had two poached eggs on sourdough. Simple and tasty. However, next time I'll order the buttermilk pancakes. Saw someone being served this after I placed my order. Looked great. $12 is reasonable. Coffee wasn't bad either. The atmosphere inside was okay. Wanted to take a photo but felt a little self-conscious when I took my phone out to snap a pic and looked at oddly by patrons. Oh well. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram/stroller accessible.

I was really disappointed by my coffee here. When I received it was too hot to drink and burning my hand through the take away cup. I left it a few minutes to cool down during which the coffee started seeping through the cup as if melting it. It tasted very chemically, possibly from the chemicals released from the melting cup. I threw it away after just one sip and purchased a coffee from somewhere else.

I have been a regular here for years. My favorite CBD cafe. Coffee is always good and staff are great. Outside seating area is good. Never had bad service even when the place is very busy. Toasted sandwiches are outstanding.

The food was amazing the coffee exceptional and the staff were so friendly. And had a go on the pokies on the short wait. A++++. Highly recommend.

Had the salmon benedict and avocado benedict. It was good! But had to wait to order which took a while but overall it was all good after that.

In need of a quick coffee, Soul Cafe was open nice and early, and is conveniently located in the city. Used to the early morning rush, the staff coped with my takeaway order fine.

The coffee itself was pretty good and the barista was quite pleasant. I haven't tried the food menu, but they had a decent display of pastries, cookies and cake; and next time I will be sure to try one of those.

Nice location but coffee are taste less, impolite waitress.
If you just want to take a break here is a good suggestion. Don't expect too much.
Came for lunch, well tried to come here for lunch anyway. Ordered our food, waited 45 minutes to ask the staff where our food was. To the response "I told the kitchen to start cooking it now". 10 minutes later we asked another staff member how long it would be. Next minute another waiter comes and leaves a refund on the table and walks away... There were only 5 other people in the cafe and the table that arrived after us received their meal. Staff looked like they didn't want to be there and by the lack of response from the kitchen, it seems like they didn't want any customers either.

These guys have a delicious looking menu and the staff are really lovely. I had the fancy toast, which was a little pricey for just one slice of toast but delicious. The eggs benedict and avo smash that my friends had both looked delicious and much better value
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
My gf and I had been travelling all day. We were walking from my our hotel looking for somewhere to eat. We stumbled across this cafe,

The cafe was a little busy the stuff where all over the shop and meals were taking a long time to come out.

My gf ordered her meal first then I ordered mine. I was the last to order my coffee so when the coffee came out they where around the wrong way. So we got the wrong coffees!!!

The food wasn’t that bad a little over priced for the size. I asked for no capsicum or chilli sauce on my eggs but it still came with it. The Arancini balls where very small for the price.

Little Bit Of Everything
Service was great but the food wasn’t up to the mark. The coffee was too sweet and burnt. We got the Chilli Scrambled eggs and Sweet corn, Zucchini and Chickpea fritters.

Went to the city for NYE and ran into this place as I walked past. The seating area attracted me and hence I had to try their hot chocolate.
We ordered a HC, a Cap and a Apple Crumble muffin.
The guy who served me expected me to carry the muffin and table number which I declined as I wanted to eat it with my HC. Wasn't impressed by this.
When the drinks came out, they brought out 2 HC and a CAP. They made a mistake. The barrista rectified the mistake with fuss or extra charge- he was excellent (Tony).
The HC was delicious but could have been hotter. The muffin was fresh. The Cap tasted like real coffee.
Improvement- table service.
Value for money- reasonable
A PIECE OF CAKE :)

I'd done a lot of walking today as usual and so decided to reward myself with a rare treat - nice slice of cake. Since I've already had a hot chocolate and a Chai latte I figured I'd go the slightly healthier option and have a nice peppermint tea to go with it. I opted for the honeycomb and caramel cake.

The staff were really nice and helpful, I took a number and sat outside to enjoy the fresh air. When my cake came it looked divinely decadent and I wasted no time digging in to it. It was at turns both rich, sweet, spongy, creamy and very very tasty indeed. Scores very highly with me and I'd recommend it to others for sure. :)

Service was great! However coffee was a little burnt and the banana walnut muffin just didn't taste good. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be going back.

The waitress recommended me to try their big breakfast and I was definitely not disappointed! Their mushroom was sooo juicy and delicious definitely one of the best I've tasted. Portion was really huge too I shared one plate with a friend and we left pretty full.

Called to ask a few questions before we came to dine and the lady who answered was were sooooo rude and blunt. If you treat people like that over the phone imagine how crap the customer experience would be in person. Never dining here.

Decent coffee and really nice chai! Would love to see some more vegan options with a name like Soul Cafe! Good location and vibes, connected to the Mercure hotel.

So so so so so so so bad. Don't waste your time here... Poor baristas who clearly do not understand what they were doing. (or care, they were chatting the whole time

Had an iced mocha which was 70% ice, 20% ice cream and 10% actual mocha. For $7. What a rip off. No way.

Friendly service but the coffee was awful. Yes, admittedly ordering soy based drinks puts any place to the test, but the cappuccino I got tasted overheated and burnt, so unpalatable I disposed of it after a few sips. Their almond croissant was tasty but a little doughy. I won't be back, unfortunately.

Coffee was a bit wishy washy & tasteless, service was ok considering the Easter madness. Good selection of fast food & takeaways which is what I was after -sandwiches on the run

Every Friday I come and would like to thank you for Tony wonderful service, his care to make sure every customer is kept happy is not a easy Thing. Thank you.
However guys a coating of paint on the floor and walls would make you feel that the place is care for, as your staff have made a difference, great work Tony .

the food is extremely slow I've been waiting for over 20mins for my meal and the food is just moderate, coffee isn't good. There is surcharge on MasterCard. The staff isn't very friendly and the environment is very old.

Came for a lunch, for something nice, but did not enjoy food at all. Ordered Atlantic salmon, salmon was a bit undercooked. I know that salmon is not cooked well done until asked, but mine was not cooked properly. Crushed potatoes were something strange, it was like mash with lumps, not really enjoyable. And the green leaves on the top (don't know proper name) were cold. Can really say anything about service, because there is almost no service at all - u need to place order at the counter, no one is looking after u if u want anything else. Won't be in a rush to be back. By the way, knife they gave me was dirty.

I agree the service was slow and staffs were not friendly. My Maple and Hickory The fish bit dry, I can feel the smoky and taste just ok. Portions are small and very little of vegies. Not recommended.

Am surprised at the negative reviews. The food and coffee was fast. Corn Fritters were amazing and tasty. Coffee was perfect temperature. I say give it another go.

Long wait. 20 minute wait for a take-away latte!

Great breakfast spot attached to our hotel (Grand Mercure). Asked and got 1 poached egg on toast as I don't like a huge brekky. No worries at all. Fast service, good coffee.

You could certainly do worse than Soul Cafe, but there's nothing to see here. Sadly we're not really spoilt for choice in this part of town :(
Erica Skippings
Slow service, food was bland and not nice at all. Wouldn't go back.

Very bad service. The waite.... Very bad service.
The waiter even didn't ask when he took a bottle of water from our table instead he gave us a long face. Same thing when he took our empty plates. Thank you for your kind attitude! NOT

Couldn't get it right. Service was slow and they couldn't even get the orders right! When the toasted banana bread arrived, the waitress said she would return with a knife but we ended up getting it ourselves as we got sick of waiting and letting it get cold (that's how long we were waiting). Both the strawberry and vanilla smoothies tasted sour that we couldn't even finish it! Never returning to that place again!!

Ordered Ham and eggs Benedict what I go was 2 small Coles English muffins with ham and eggs and I paid $19. ABSOLUTE RUBBISH, too expensive, small portion sizes.
Soul Cafe
Swanston street is one of the busiest streets in central Melbourne and is dotted with cafes and alfresco dining areas so that everyone can sit, relax and soak up the atmosphere.

One of the more upmarket eateries is the Soul Café, just north of one of the best shopping spots in the city, the Bourke street Mall.
With both indoor and alfresco dining you can enjoy the delectable light menu for lunch, brunch or dinner, or treat yourself between shopping to one of the special sweet treats on offer.

Soul Café belongs to the Grand Mercure complex so the décor, menu and service is five star but the prices are great, and really affordable if you want to treat yourself here each time you're in the city. SUPERB coffee. delicious and I tend to swap between the two when I drop in for lunch.

Pretty good wine list as well means it's quite easy to dine, wine and wile a sunny afternoon away under the black umbrella's as I watch the hum and buzz that exists along this exuberant city strip.
