Review Spice Club Indian Brasserie - Melbourne

Aditya Joshi
Great food! I’ve been here twice and tried their vegetarian as well as non vegetarian options. Very authentic. They have a beautiful picture of Hindu God, Sri Ram on the wall that caught my eye. While most staff members were friendly, one seems to be a particularly cold towards people of South Asian appearance - and that’s a bit tragic/ironic, if you think about it.

Quality indian food. Tried the food for first time and it was way delicious than other Indian restaurants around. Ordered Palak paneer, Butter chicken, Jeera rice, Paneer aloo tikki, Okra, Jeera aloo etc. as i had some friends over for dinner and highly satisfied as it was too fresh. Plus it was very quick and very reasonable price too. I would definitely recommend Spice Club to all those who are craving for indian food.

Gulab gamun full of raw suger sticking outside skin but overall dry from inside and very bad quality. Amritsar change had swimming pool of oil. I have stomach-ache afte4 having it. Panner kulcha had very uneven cooking because its thin from one side and too thick from other side. Hardly had any spices or panner in it. I dont know how that restaurant even running. Need to change chef and management. One of the worst indian restaurant i tried in Melbourne.

Highly recommend for good Indian food in Melbourne. We ordered a variety of food and everything tasted extremely well and fresh. We did order mango lassi as well. It tasted way better than many other Indian restaurants. Mango 🥭 lassi is a must try here. Super thick. We didn’t like the music in the background, but the waitress was sweet enough to let us play our own music. Over all it’s a good restaurant for good Indian food 🥘 Management: please please set up a good playlist. Your existing playlist of heartbroken mid 2000s Hindi songs just kills the vibe. 😞 (-1 ⭐️)

Ordered the banquet and weren't too happy with the curries. Entrees was superb although the kebab was a bit too salty, but we were not complaining. The mains tho are ridiculously bland and tasteless. Ordered lamb korma and butter chicken, which are nothing like what we expected. Didn't even try the daal as we were so disappointed and couldn't wait to just take the food away and add extra spices in there!! Maybe the chef was just having a bad day, but I don't think we'll be coming bad, sadly... Service was good, quick and efficient.

We have a lovely dinner at Spice Club for two. We had chicken madras, beef vindaloo, cumin rice, onion kulcha and pratha bread. Absolutely delightful and we even ordered a second serve of cumin rice so we can finish all the curries! The chicken madras was tender with the right spiciness. The beef vindaloo was spicy (that's how we liked it!) and aromatic. The cut of beef was good and we ate everything on the table. We look forward to returning, with some friends!

We booked a table really late, but the staff served us with a huge smile and manager (Amit) Checked on us couple of times even though they were closed. Beautiful food and amazing customer service. Must recommend 💜

Drowned in e-numbers and laced with salt this place gave me the worst ‘Indian’ food possible. To call it Indian is an affront to the nation and to the culture. Do not even think about wasting your money.

Food is amazing no words to explain really enjoyed with family best Indian restaurant in Melbourne

Good place to go for an Indian meal!!!

Spice Club has never put a foot wrong with me. The curries are amazing (with my personal favourites being the madras and the korma) and have a great flavour and texture to them and I also recommend the tandoori paneer which is suburb as an entree. The service is always sharp and friendly, and there is always enough seating available on busy nights.

Overall, this is definitely one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Melbourne.

Have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food and service are excellent. We had chicken jalfrezi with naan and stuffed kulchas which were really tasty and made us warm on this cold Melbourne night. Can wait to eat here again. P.s. used an eatclub voucher

Pathetic Food! Pathetic Ambiance! I feel like puking after having the food. Poor quality food!
The quantity as per the price is completely not acceptable.
Also, the restaurant charges extra 2% for transaction fee. I mean really?
PATHETIC is also an understatement I’d say.

I have been a regular customer of this amazing and authentic north Indian restaurant since last 2 years. What makes me visit here once in a while is their overall package that they provide.

The food, service and the exuberance.

Have spent half of my life in India and then moved to Australia, I would say this place always delivers what it promises. The food is the best you will find in Melbourne. Not just the food, the overall management and the hospitality provided by the staff and specially the lady in-charge makes this place stand apart from other Asian restaurants here.

Writing this long review because they deserves this. Keep being awesome guys. I'll visit you soon. 10/10.

Dinner tonight was... Indian. Yes I know AGAIN! I can’t get enough of it...!

I have walked past here for years and eaten here a long time ago and we ordered some delicious food tonight.

First of all the serving sizes are very very generous. The garlic naan was so big we had 4 of them between 2 adults and 2 children with some still to spare.

Our butter chicken was very flavorful yet it was more earthy and less creamy than all the others I’ve tried (well I’ve eaten my fair share of Indian over the years) but it was still good.

The garlic chicken balls? It’s like Kiev but 1000% better. They were awesome!!!

We had a little cooling dip too that was served and it went great with the food.

Overall, very tasty stuff!

We have been looking for somewhere local to have a nice Indian curry since moving from UK - we were certainly not disappointed! Really tasty, delicious fresh food and friendly, efficient staff. We will definitely be back, so pleased we found this gem of a place. 👍😁

Incredible Indian food. So much variety and interesting options I've never seen before. Amazing flavour. Generous servings. Highly recommend.

We saw the reviews and thought this restaurant would be worth trying. My dish came very spicy and over spiced which wasn’t written on the menu. My husbands fish was dry. Will not be returning.

We had a catch-up dinner at Spice Club on 25/07 and went the chef's recommendations for entree's which was the platter and a nice chicken dish which had so many different flavours and spice. The tandoori chicken and seekh kebab had the right amount of spice and was fantastic quality in terms of tenderness.
For the mains we had beef vindaloo, indian style butter chicken, garlic & chilli prawn with roomali roti. We requested varying degrees of spice and got mild to hot with each curry serving up to expectation in terms of spiciness. Flavour was great and roomali roti definetely hit the mark. Will definitely be back

Came here last night with an EatClub voucher. The restaurant was empty which didn’t bode well but the food was delicious! We started with onion bhaji, then had lamb pasanda and chicken curry for main. We also had Kashmiri and plain naan. Staff were friendly and the meal was really tasty. Would come back.

We went there on monday night, good service, food was decent portion, we tried tandoori platter was really good.
We tried butter chicken, palAk panner, lamv Vindaloo.
Parantha, roti and Garlic naan
My freind found bit too much garlic on Nan, but nan was fresh and soft.

Overall experience was decent .

Came here for dinner in a group of 9. The staff were friendly and the service was fast, especially given how many orders we had. Everyone started off with the mixed appetiser platter - it was good but a bit expensive for what it was, though. The curries were all good, though, albeit maybe lacking in a little bit of spice, and the breads were good too.

Stale, tasteless food served by rude, brash waitresses. If you want food poisoning this is the place to go to. Empty on a Saturday night - should have known better!!!

A more apt name for this restaurant would be the Diarrhoea Club because that's just what your going to be taking home with you over the next few days.

Very good chicken bryani served here but the rest is good, but not as great. Enjoy a nice quiet night with a friendly, polite and attentive staff. A little pricey all things considered but the experience is there.
This is my favourite restaurant. The main attraction of this restaurant for me is not only food but service as well. All the staff and manager are very friendly. They always looked after us. Thanks

I quite like this place for local Indian food. There aren't too many indian places around South Yarra, which is mostly inundated with Thai and Vietnamese - which I'm not complaining about! The Serve has incredibly friendly staff who are attentive, seem to remember what you ordered last time and are always pleasant to deal with. Despite having been here a few times there never seems to be a large crowd, however I think they do quite a bit of home delivery trade!

The traditional favourites such as butter chicken and some of the kormas can be a little on the oily side, but that's probably part of what makes them incredibly tasty! Their veggie samosas are one of my favourite things on the menu and their naan bread is to die for. Wouldn't go shouting about it from the rooftops but it's a definite local fave for a quiet meal. Great BYO deal too!

Great service but a shame food wasn't as good! We bought a living social voucher for $29 (upto $82 value) correct and did verify the same. it was a banquet from the menu at $36 p.p and $10 for a serve of either chocolate or vanilla ice-cream each. We booked quite late around 7pm to arrive at 8pm last week friday. Booking and seating process was great. I showed my voucher on arrival and the entree's started. The samosa and onion bhaji were nice but the lamb (boti kebab) was under cooked and very dry and hard to chew. chicken tikka was ok. For our mains we had butter chicken (probably one of the worst I have eaten), veg sabzi was good and lamb ok. Rice too bland but guess that's what was on the menu. we got 4 rotis which was good. For the dessert, I had the chocolate ice-cream that I liked and wife had vanilla which seemed ordinary. Overall great location and staff, but the food lacks flavour and certainly more needs to be done.

Food was great and freshly made. Customer service is wonderful. A bit pricey compared to other Indian restaurants however quality of food is exceptional.
Hands down the best Indian resto around, as confirmed by their front windows FULL of articles and awards and full tables every night of the week. The palak paneer is one of the best I ever had and the lamb melts in your mouth. They also do take away menu that is a little cheaper than the dine-in option, plus a 10% discount if you pay in cash. Absolutely wonderful!
first time here. drove by by chance & absolutely enjoyed every moment of it. the food is delicious, staff were great. It gets quite busy & full, so either you make reservations or come a bit early before 8pm). I was very satisfied with the food, because there's nothing i hate more than not being satisfied 😁😁. 10/10

Delivered within 40 minutes and food delivered hot. Excellent quality food and punctual, friendly service. Great range of vegetarian options. Highly recommended. Will definitely order again.
My usual Indian was closed so decided to try here! To keep short and simple, overpriced and extremely tasteless! 65$ for 2 people! Won't be back

Good ambience and happy friendly staff, food can have more depth and flavour to get the real value for money but not bad overall.
Would try this again

New owners, gone downhill fast. Food has become bland, Service is terrible - left us sitting amongst piles of dirty dishes before they take them away and they rarely take drink orders. Food didn't come out until more than an hour after we arrived. New owner is very rude- we were the last table there, spent hundreds of dollars, yet he stood 2 metres from us with his arms folded, intimidating us to leave. We left and he shut the door behind us, no goodbye or thankyou. Comeback James please! We've been coming for years, but won't return.

Delicious Indian food and the most friendly, personable service makes for a great night out at the Serve!
We've only been here a handful of times yet the staff always remember who we are and even keep a record of what we've ordered previously - makes getting through the menu much easier!
It's also BYO - which is an absolute bonus! The samosas are great and all of the main dishes we've tried have been so full of flavour that you can tell how much time and effort has gone into the making of their food! Would definitely recommend!!

Good but not great. We had a lamb, chicken and vege curry and all were tasty enough but just lacked a bit more depth of flavour and spice. The garlic naan was good as were the entrees. Service could be better, had to ask twice for a wine bucket. Not bad if you need a curry fix.

great location, good ambiance and excellent service. the food isn't bad either, with the right use of Indian spices and improved flavors this place could become unbeatable.

I've walked past The Serve on many occasions without thinking too much about it however my brother and sister-in-law asked us to join them one night recently.

It was a balmy night and we had a table out on the deck overlooking Toorak Rd. It is undercover (in case of rain) and back from the street so no real sense of the traffic. Very pleasant.

First - the service was excellent - attentive, professional and friendly. And the advice on serve sizes was spot on.

Next - the food was all very good. Huge choice. We started with chicken tikka, Kurmuri fish, and Barra Kebab which was actually 4 french lamb cutlets. For mains we had rogan josh (can't help myself), prawn madras and Daal Makhani with the usual sides. All were very good.

Value - we brought our own wine and there was a reasonable charge for this. Overall it was very good value for money.

And did I say the service was good?

Yes, I know. All restaurants in the area are expensive. But we expected food to be way more special compared with the price. All dishes were OK, very clean, not too oily but not too tasty. Service was great and nice atmosphere. But our next Indian will be somewhere else.

Best Indian Restaurant in Australia. Amazing food, incredible hospitality. James and Alisha, are truly great hosts. If you haven't been, it's a must try.

Best Indian restaurant in the area. Thought we would try The Serve as it's close to home and we were yet to find a great Indian restaurant in the area. It was a Saturday night and the place was buzzing, but we were still able to comfortably hold a conversation across the table. There is a decent wine list and the waiter was very helpful when our first choice of bottle was unavailable. We ordered the Tandoori Platter for entree, followed by the Lamb Vindaloo and a Potato & Cauliflower dish for main (along with rice, naan, chilli paste and vegetable pickle as accompaniments). All dishes were lovely and the chilli paste was a delicious way to amp up the heat! We were quite full after that, but couldn't resist trying the Pistachio Kulfi special that was recommended to us for dessert - it was light and not too sweet, the perfect way to finish a meal. Friendly service and overall great value. We can't wait to come back and sample more items from the menu.

The food here is on a whole another level!!! Best Indian ive had in Melb thus far!

Lovely dinner. Had a quick Friday night dinner recently and it was delicious. The mixed starters were a good combination of flavours followed by prawns and lamb to share. Yummy and well worth a visit. Great friendly service.

Very clean restaurant that encompasses both modern furniture and traditional Indian decoration. Customer service was great by constantly attending to our needs. Water was refilled without request. The food was an 8/10 with unique recipes and attention to presentation.

We have been coming here for a few years, last year it changed its name from Little India Bistro & Tandoor to The Serve Bistro and Tandoor. It has the same food and staff just a different name. It is a medium sized restaurant that is clean and the staff all look professional. The staff are friendly and welcoming. For Entees we order the Chilli Pakoras, it is green chilli's with a chickpea batter that is fried. The chillis are fresh and have a nice bite to it. They come with a refreshing mint chutney...

They have nailed the fantastic restaurant equation: they do their food well (consistently), the staff could not be any friendlier, and the price point is spot on. My exact words when we left tonight were, "there is no restaurant in Melbourne I'd rather give my money to." Thank you, we will be back soon!

Best Indian in Melbourne!. We came here early last Friday night. They were pretty busy but still greeted us as soon as we came in and were very friendly and attentive. The Lamb Saag and the Kadai Lamb were both delicious and the meat was really tender and flavoursome. The garlic naan was really nice. big portions and we left feeling pretty stuffed but not sick like at some Indian places. not that cheap but definitively worth it! will be back.

Dinner 27 Dec 2014. Just happened to walk in as the place was around the corner from the hotel we stayed at. The food at The Serve turned out to be the best Indian cuisine we've had in Australia so far. We are from South Africa ( now living in Sydney) and we have some fine Indian cuisine restaurants which are not quite your local take away joint. The attention to detail is what sets it apart, and beware the the Hot option ! Its only for the chilli heads!

Try this place. You will not be disappointed!

Average food. Naan was tasty. Malai Kofta wasn't one of the better that I've had, the sauce was way too rich and the kofta's were dry. Servings were way too small for both the price and quality.
Charliegallagher00
Two thumbs up!. We LOVE The Serve! The Kofta Saagwala and the Chicken Tikka Masala were exceptional, with the perfect spice and flavour to satisfy our every desire. Excellent naan as well, we will definitely be coming back soon.
