Review Cafe Corretto - Melbourne

Souvik lal Chakraborty
We ordered the Corretto Special Pizza. The large size costs $24. I would say the pizza was pretty average. Even though the topping was generous, I would say there was hardly any cheese in the pizza.

The staff were very friendly here, and its a beautiful restaurant, the portion sizes were also quite filling. The food was yummy, but it felt like it just hit the mark.

had a really nice pizza here for lunch, thin base and lots of toppings. would recommend it. happily pop back in next time I'm on lygon Street

The spag bol with meatballs and seafood risotto were yummy and fresh. It was nice to see the two owners treated their staff nicely. Let us face it.. If the owner is nice to the staff, the staff are nice to the customers.

We walked Lygon St and chose Cafe Coretto because of the authentic woodfire pizzas. They did not disappoint.

Really nice food and vibes! We had dinner outdoors on a Tuesday night, and we spent a really nice time. They have a wide variety of pizzas and pastas, on medium and large sizes. A wide variety of Italian drinks as well, which was nice to try. Prices are quite accesible and worth the amount, quality and taste of the food. Friendly staff! Will definitely come back some time soon

Have been coming to Cafe Corretto for years now, as the food and Service never seize to amaze. Thus if you are into Good Food and Fast Cars, this is the place to go, as it is the place where the Official Scudderia Ferrari and its fans meet every year during the Australian F1 Event in Melbourne. When in Lygon Street, Cafe Corretto is a place that cannot be missed, hands down up there with the best Lygon Street has to offer.

Best food and best service... will be back for sure!!! Maggie thank you for the best dining experience... she's the best

Pizza could do with a tiny bit more sauce on the base but other then that the place is great, customer service is good and you can relax and eat your meal for an hour without being dusturbed to much

Pizza was perfect, veal was tough. Nice food, good service, toilets a bit below standard. Would have given 5 stars if the veal was better.

The food has always been of the highest quality, extremely generous serves, (the entree size is plenty for me, and I’m a good eater) the service was as always, very good. Prompt service, and meal delivery time was very good. I will return 👍🏻

No major issues with the food. Once we were seated we ordered entree's and mains, the wait time for the entree's was reasonable. Following this we waited 40 minutes for our mains, at which a time we queried the wait as those around us were receiving theirs. A waiter kindly advised us the meals would be 10 minutes. 10 minutes went by and a different waiter then advised they had checked up on our meals and they would be 10-15 minutes, but ensured we were aware we had not been forgotten. As a sign of good will, bruschetta was brought out free of charge, lovely gesture however at this time we just wanted to eat our mains and leave. I'm not asking for anything nor expecting a response. Overall it was a disappointing experience, especially one to welcome my father and his partner to on a rare visit of his to Melbourne.

The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were really friendly. We had pizza and pasta and it was so tasty. Highly recommended!

Great food. Good service and friendly staff. Please visit if you are going to Melbourne

We(4peoples)went there on Friday night so full. Food was good but took long to serve till we asked the waiter twice. I didn't it's because of week end but I found very noisy inside the restaurant. And they put too much tables then it felt so narrow.

Had a very enjoyable and delicious meal on Sunday night .The service was excellent. Vincent our waiter was very professional and friendly :)

I loved this place 20 years ago and today i love them still. The same taste of pizza Paesana brought back many memories.

My daughter and I were visiting Melbourne for an extended weekend and wandered up Lygon St for some pasta. I was going to have veal parmigiana but changed my mind and had pasta. My daughter and I shared 2 entree sized pastas were were absolutely delicious. We had alla pana tortellini and penne with eggplant and a side salad and garlic bread. There was not a morsel left when we finished. Great service yummy food. We will be back😋

Great traditional food, friendly staff. Pizza was awesome.

My daughter and I passed through yesterday seeking shade from the crazy heat, a meal and chilled wine. Our waitress was lovely, very friendly and welcoming. I look forward to our next visit, 5 ⭐️ & a 🙌🏻 From us 👍🏻😉

Filthy chairs - feel like im at road side eatery in the Phillipines!

Woman took our order and said she would bring some water... that never came... i then ordered a coke.... but that also never came!

Just sloppy service and pizza was some wird thin super hard base - so u couldnt stick u fork in it to pick it up - you had to cut it up - which took forever - and then pick up the pieces with fingers or try scoop it up with the fork - i just wanted a normal pizza - think this place needs a bit of a revamp! Just sloppy service and dirty!

By pure chance we chose this place, mostly because it would easily seat 7 of us at 7pm at night whereas we’d walked passed a few places that had queues.
The menu was so extensive it was hard to make a choice over pizza or pasta. Between all of us, we had a blend of everything.
Marinara, vegetarian pizza and everything in between.
4 pizza sizes and the small was perfect as an entree and medium enough for most people.
House white or red wine was okay and at a good price.
Staff were very helpful and meals came to the table in quick time. Sitting outside dining on our meals with little street heaters keeping us warm was a nice end of our staff workshop.
Toilets available at the rear but not necessarily wheelchair accessible.
Notes: wheelchair friendly, disabled accessible, kid friendly, parking can be challenging in Lygon Street but stick with it and you’ll find something.
Thank you to everyone at Cafe Corretto.

Overall score: 15/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: you must order the marinara
*
If you ever take a stroll down Lygon Street and end up visiting this institution, you have to order the pasta marinara! Creamy, hearty, generous seafood servings and an all rounder.
The Ferrari decorations peppered around the restaurant also gives this place a more traditional feel. We also really enjoyed the simple bruschetta which was executed well

Unfortunately, I thought that I’ve had better pizzas in this city. The pizza doughs were too thick for more liking - I prefer a crispier version. The toppings were also quite dry in some instances. Conclusion - would come back for the good starter and pastas

Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Presentation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Price: ⭐️⭐️
Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tasty for a quick meal!! Pasta was pretty good. Decor is also not my style but still quite cool.

Cafe Corretto's an old staple. I've had at least 10 differents items here and they're all great!
The Scuderia Ferrari memorabilia is just a fun extra. Particularly recommend the quattro formaggio!

We had to wait 20 minutes to be served and they took a further 50mins to actually give us our food, it wasn't even a full house nor was it even busy
Lisa
My favourite seafood fettuccine in Melbourne. Reasonably priced and good portions, great for a quick dinner or catch up with family. Pizzas here aren’t my favourite but they seem fairly popular too.
Crabapples For Lunch
One of the cheaper Italian places on Lygon that I have been going to for over 10 years. Flashy Ferrari themed decor and good sized portions of pastas here. A lot of the pastas, whether they are the Napoli or cream based options, are quite thick and therefore filling. We only order entree sized portions (roughly $16) and are well satisfied.

Some of the pastas we like are the marinara (seafood in cream sauce), Pescatore (seafood in Napoli sauce), cardinale (chicken and avocado in a Napoli cream sauce), Alla Panna (mushrooms) and others. Good amount of seafood in the seafood pastas, and they sometimes include scallops in there. Also one of the few restaurants that offer linguine as one of the pasta options.

If you like eggplant, try their melanzane pizza - oozing chunks of eggplant that really make the pizza sing. Lots of other places don't do their eggplant as well as this.

It's not the fanciest place but for the price, portion and taste it's great for a reasonably priced meal.
Tina
Ordered a half American and half Mushroom pizza. The mushroom pizza was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, the American pizza was bland in comparison. I would definitely return for a full mushroom pizza.

One of the busies spots in Lygon st.
We ordered two small pizzas, margarita and tropical. The ham top on are so generous.
We also had a entrée of avocado chicken penne. Very very creamy and tasty.
Definitely come back soon.

A nice Italian place that serves up hearty meal! The ambience is cozy and the service is fast and friendly. I ordered the Corretto special pizza and the toppings are generous! The thin crust is perfect and not overwhelming! For the pasta, I ordered the Fettucini Cardinale which is perfectly creamy! Price is very reasonable.
Davisco Sprincorza
Local place from RMIT uni which is good, food is good, had a nice Mexicana styled pizza with salami, olives, onions etc. was a standard pizza, not the best not the worst.
Bopnbeep
One of my favourites on Lygon Street for hearty Italian fare. The mixed pasta is great for sharing if you can’t decide on one pasta. The cardinale with tortellini is delicious and the gnocchi is pillowy soft. Our marinara pizza was soggy unfortunately but the flavours were nice and it was loaded with juicy prawns and clams. This is a friendly family run restaurant and it’s just as good as it was 10 years ago!

Very famous cafe with Ferrari theme. Fair price, about $25 per person. We ordered a soup, a linguine and a large pizza. We cannot finish them due to large portions.
Environment 3/5
Food 3.5/5
Service 3.5/5

Really nice place with nice service.
Had a pizza take away, good ingredients, smells amazing, only thing I don’t like is it smells better than how it tastes.

I will say give it a solid 3.5.

This is my friend’s favorite restaurant in Lygon Street. I ordered salmon pasta which taste great, creamy and full of flavor.my friend still go for his favorite beef topping pizza. To be honest, pizza in this restaurant is not my type, with thin crust , look like a bit over cooked.but my friend like this style. The price here is very reasonable, and staff are friendly.

keep coming back, always good !
George David Michaelides
Coolest thing about Corretto is the 2001 Ferrari f1 car hanging from the roof. The rest of the place is in dire need of a revamp from the chairs to the table cloths. The pizza is pretty run of the mill for this street similar to the places next door La Porchetta style traditional 90's pizza
Hungry-Caterpillar
Pizza was a disappointment, very salty toppings not dispersed evenly on the pizzas. Base was a bit over cooked and had a dry biscuit consistency.

Pasta was nice and I’d return for the old Italian style generous serve nothing fancy.

Salad was lack lustre.

Considering our order was predominantly pizzas for a medium group I have given a 1 star review. It was a letdown with so much competition in the area I would go elsewhere for a pizza if dining on the street again.

Price: Average
Quality: Below Average
Service: Friendly

Rachael
Out of all the Italian restaurants on lygon, this one doesn’t add much. It’s average with the staff responsiveness, friendliness, food and prices. Pizza was large but the norm from the street and the pasta was gluggy and so-so. Wouldn’t really go back and it doesn’t stand out as a must try or a must return.

Great, simple Italian restaurant. Been there since my uni days and their food quality been quite consistent. Their salmon pasta is my favourite and my kids love their pizza. However, there are lots more restaurants coming up and they have been living in the past. A little touch up or change in their menu might give a bit of life to a tired looking place. Reasonably price. Great for the weekend.
Antonila Eglosios
Had an excellent experience at this authentic Italian restaurant. Ordered the Fettuccine Marinara and it was heavenly! Great prompt service as well.

Reviewing it for what it is which is a very well priced and cheerful Italian joint in Carlton. The Corretto Special is the pizza of choice.....tasty with generous toppings. The pastas are superb for the price too. Inexpensive, tasty and filling. A regular dinner place for me.

You shouldn't have to wait an hour and 10 minutes to recieve a homebrand bowel of pasta. Overpriced at $20.00 for a main that had hardly any sauce and ingredients, something that was pre cooked and just heated up. Use to be regular customers but management has gotten complacent and think their reputation over the years will keep people returning to the restaurant. Not an enjoyable night out.
Anabellebarker6
Smaller portions than expected.. loud thumping coming from the kitchen continuously... pizzas cut in the most uneven slices I’ve ever seen!! Staff seemed uninterested when serving. A little bit disappointed.

Café Corretto is well and truly a Melbournian institution. The first Saturday of each month, me and some friends come and dine amidst this wondrous theatre of cuisine before partaking in our monthly 'Room' screening at Cinema Nova. A favourite of ours is the 1L house red, which is great bang for our buck! Sometimes it's cold, sometimes it's warm; the guessing game adds another element of intrigue to our night. The pizza is also particularly scrumptious and greasy, perfect for a late night celebration of cinema. The most endearing quality of this establishment, however, is the superlative service and staff. One time we were told by a waitress to 'shut up' as she took our order. Personally, I admire the balls on the woman. This shows tremendous character and a desire to accomplish her waitressing through any adversity. Her endeavour is a testament to the workmanlike nature of Café Corretto. Further, we are always overjoyed to be in the presence of various local celebrities, including one specific elderly Italian man who is, without fail, watching videos aloud on his phone at the front of the restaurant. He has become a cult hero to my friends and I.
Ultimately, Corretto has taught me that there's more to a restaurant than just the food. This place is about life itself and the journey to self-knowledge. Like the Vatican to Christians and Mecca to Muslims, Café Corretto to my friends and I is a sacred place of worship which we treasure. Highly recommend.

Went with a group of 20 people, ordered the salmone pasta entree size. It was very tasty and salmon was fresh! I tried my friends bococinni pizza and it was lit 🔥 I'd go back another day to try something different 👍 overall experience was fun 👌

I went here this afternoon for a lunch with my sister after wandering around the Carlton Italian Festa. The place wasn't too crowded. I noticed that there is a huge selection of things you can choose from the menu. I ordered the Francese pizza and my sister went for the Salmon one, both in small size. We had to wait for about 15 minutes for the food to come out because the pizzas were freshly made. It was such a shame because they got us the two same pizzas so we had to wait another 15 minutes for the other to come out.
Because everything was newly made after the order, the pizzas were super fresh and delicious from the first to the last bite. Even though there was a lot of cheese but I didn't feel heavy at all. My Francese pizza was definitely a recommended dish because the semi dried tomato and the spinach and the beef, everything just went so perfectly together. My sister's Salmon one was yummy as well, although I wished they had given us more salmon. The small size turned out to be very proportional and reasonable with the price.
All in all, I love this small cafe on Lygon St, from the inspiring decoration to the decent food that we had. I just only wished my stomach had had more space to try other dishes. Will definitely return for their popular pasta and the steak.
Have eaten here a few times now and enjoy it so much. The pasta is cooked well, sauce is well seasoned and sevice is friendly. The pizza is also delcious.

One of my favourite Italian restaurants in Lygon street.
They have the great steaks that come out on a hot sizzling plate.
Pizzas and pastas are to die for!
I love that they do the pasta to share platter for people like me who can’t choose just one type of pasta dish but must have more than one to be satisfied.
Staff are lovely and attentive.
Only downfall is that dishes can be a tad overpriced. Hopefully they do some specials each day of the week.
Always visited here with no issues.
Take your lover, friends and family for great Italian food.

I am a regular visitor here. Had dinners with my lover, my parents and friends many times here. Food is great, service is great, and this warm, sweet "Ferrari" restaurant never disappoints me. Just love it.

Café Corretto is located at the famous lygon street where you can find lots of Italian food. The pasta here is affordable with a huge portion. It's good for sharing if you consider yourself as a small portion eater. I couldn't finish it alone, ended up wasting some food. The carbonara was okay, but I feel like it was too creamy that I got sick of it after eating them some time. The service was not that well-managed though. I was there during lunch time on a weekdays when it was not crowded at all. I'm pretty sure my friend and I were one of the few guests there at that time. However, we had to wait for more than 40 minutes to get our food done. We were super hungry though, but didn't feel like arguing with the staff. It was not a good service, we felt kind of ignored I have to admit. If I were given a choice, I don't think I would come back.

Wonderful place that never disappoints.
Kailee Hallam and I come here every few months purely to order our favourite pasta, a tortellini cardinale.
We have failed to find any place which serves anything like this. It is a beautiful mix place with a great atmosphere. The garlic focaccia is to die for also.

When we dined here recently, we decided to sit outside. A suspicious man sat next to us and the owner and staff came out and made sure the man didn't do anything to us as we were the only ones outside. Once the man had left, the owner told us that the man was trying to steal our bags as we are two 20 year old women and therefore easy targets. We are beyond grateful that the owner and staff helped us and that we can feel protected when dining.
Kailee Hallam
Best Italian restaurant I've ever been too. Have been coming here for years and have never had a disappointing meal. Always have the garlic focaccia and tortellini cardinale - so delicious! Best tortellini I've ever had, so fresh. Awesome staff as well. Definitely recommend.
Chris Armstrong
Great Italian place with lots of Ferrari memorabilia. The mixed pasta is a great deal for two people with a selection of three different pastas. The carbonara is a great selection.
Britt And Shane
We've been going here since we were kids and the food has always been amazing it's never changed. You don't go here for the service, but you can't beat this place for classic Italian.
Isa Matt Franks
Had the Correto pizza and it was nothing special. The pizza lacked flavour and was missing ingredients that said on the menu. Disappointing.
Sanj Tanya
Probably one of my favourite Italian places on Lygon Street, they have such a wide variety with vegetarian options as well! I took my mum hear for her birthday and she absolutely loved it! The gnocchi is mouth watering and melts in your mouth. Pizza base is great and the sauce they use is beautiful! Bruschetta was tasteful and had a lot of flavour! Definitely worth the price and if the weathers nice it's nice to sit outside with friends and family with a great meal!

My favourite restaurant in Melb! I have been coming here since I was young with my family and still continue to choose Corettos for most going out meals! Best Parma you will ever have - the Napoli sauce is AMAZING. The only downside for me is that over the years the service has gotten worse and worse. Once seated it can take up to 10-15 minutes for even an offer of drinks... which can take a further 10-15 to make it to the table. I have had many meals where we have ordered second drinks to have with mains and they haven't come until all the plates were cleared... but the food is so good we just keep coming back!
Gwendolyn Huang
Cafe Corretto has been one of my fav Italian restaurant in Melbourne. The pasta there are just too good to resist. Strongly recommend spaghetti with Salmon Napoli sauce.

Nice Marinara Risotto, definitely will come again! Really creamy and tasty!! 🍝 😋😋 Better with cheese powder~!! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Love the pizza and pasta here. Just tradition pizza with spaghetti bolognese but I was really impressed by this restaurant. The sauce really boost the flavor of the pasta and it didn't get foo cheesy or oily to the last bite. They have really impressive decoration as well.

Went last night and absolutely hated it. The service was terrible. Our entrées were brought out with our mains. And then the staff proceeded to say that we asked for it this way, which was a complete lie. The wait time was ridiculous. The food was extremely underwhelming, the Calamari tasted like something bought out of a box, and the pasta was below average. I expressed how much we didn't enjoy my meal, however, nothing was done. We were charged for everything. If I could put 0.0 I would. I do not recommend anybody going here. Donot waste you're hard earned money and time on this place. I've traveled to melbourne for the weekend and dining here has soured my entire trip.
Helen
Service good but food just average. Ravioli ok and pizza cheese not very nice. Bruschetta was nice. Not bad but probably wouldn't come again.
Foodie Panda
this place has been one of the favourites amongst my friends and i to dine in a group with as they have a wide range of choices to choose from. my favourite main is the 3 types of pastas served on a large platter, where everyone gets to have a share.

we ordered the large platter pasta - carbonara, pesto and seafood - and it did not disappoint! besides the large portions, the taste of the pasta delivered really well.

my friends ordered their own personal pizza as well as garlic bread to share.

in terms of service, it can take several tries to get the staff's attention at times. the restaurant gives off a really cozy ambiance and they have some pretty nice decorations as well. would visit again someday.
Hi
Shocking Service. Waited an hour and a half for food on Saturday night, and the table next to us got their food before. Wouldn't recommend going in on a busy night.
Yang Lizhen
Look like a traditional Italian restaurant. But the food is not true Italian food. I tried two times and the pasta was always too salty. Just a place for food when you don't want cook at home.
VodkaO_ZS
Had the alla tuna (with linguine) and the Irish coffee. The noodle is great, with fresh sauce, chewy linguine, not overboiled or overly soft. The drink is strong enough, but not that tasty. The price is reasonable, the service is quick and not bad.
Lauren Thayer
Have been here three times now and every time has been so yummy! We've had pizza, pasta and bruschetta... and don't forget the generously priced wine! Pizza is fantastic and comes in three sizes depending on how hungry you are.. $10 for a four slice pizza is such good value. The house Shiraz is only $4.80 and is delicious and coffee is really good as well! Pasta is al dente and entree size is more than enough to fill you up and at around $15 it is really good value. The staff are always friendly and service is always fast. It's going on our list of regular go to's that's for sure!
Lachlan Stott
The service was what let this cafe down quite considerably. I booked a table (through Zomato) and they had no idea about it, and refused to give us a table inside. They eventually allowed us to have a table outside, but it took a full 30 minutes and three requests from us for them to actually take our order. Another half an hour before the food came out - which was acceptable. If it weren't for the sub par customer service (and I don't blame all the backpackers that work there, it's clearly management's issue) they would have gotten a better review from me.
Cherry Chen
the best Italian restaurant i've been, the garlic breads, pizza and passta, they are just perfect, taste just right! will come back for sure.
AaronN
This place used to be a favourite back in uni. Been years since I've been back, and the standards have slipped. Food was very average, service was slow (wasnt even that packed) and was too pricey for what we got.
Ebanful
First time here arrived just after the lunch rush Inoffensive and given the price isnt over top I suppose it passes but not the best quality. The "fresh" pasta is more Latina fresh than Nonnas homemade and the chicken and avocado creamy sauce I had wasn't amazing but not terrible either. Not sure if was or not but the chicken in the sauce looked like it was a left over roast chicken shredded up and as it was mostly breast was dry. As I said for the price it was ok.
Andrew
Had a mexican steak and mushrook steak. Good serving size 400g enough and very filling. I must say this place is known for its mushroom steak and i must say it certainly does live up to the taste and desire. The mexican not so much but average. Mushroom steak a certainty to try if visiting this place. cafe coretto very good for price and filing 😋
JeannetN
Not the fastest service but that gave us time to take a deep breath, slow down, relax and take in the Italian racing car atmosphere. Complete rock bottom bargain price, we tried the chocolate milk shake, and pastas. The pastas were cooked perfectly, silky and smooth, the sauces wonderfully rich and creamy. Will come again.

Love me a Correttos Pizza! Hubby and I still come here regularly as we love the pizza and pasta. The Capricosa is so good! I have also had the pasta carbonara here which has been good. A little heavy but that's expected with the cream. I strongly recommend the lasagne though. They melt cheese with the mince and it just tastes great.

Service has always been great here for us, cant fault or complain about that aspect.

Will continue to come back!

My families favourite pizza place EVEEEER growing up..... has finally begun to go down hill. When I was younger the corretos capriciosa would have that delicious stringy cheese and unique base and tasty ham! Now it is still very nice but not exactly like I remembered it! Corretos has always had a very cool interior (love the Ferrari)! A typical Italian joint! Do recommend it for everyone... maybe the pizza is the same as I remember it, you should try and make your own decision!

I love the lasagna here. You can not go wrong with a corretos lasagna. All my life the staff have been ridiculously friendly here too :)

There is plenty of choice for Italian cuisine in Lygon Street, but this cafe is one of my favourites . I have been here numerous times dining with friends, and have always found the pizzas to be very good, and the service friendly and attentive. Fairly standard decor inside, with Italian themed wall adornments, and a large kerbside area for al fresco dining. There is nothing remarkable about the menu - the usual pizza and pasta options - but the quality is good, and the food inexpensive.
FoodieCCC
A special place with Ferrari decorations, looks so special, it's definitely a reastaurant I'd like to recommend to others. Pizzas and pastas are great, after all, it's located on Lygon St, the Italian food will never go wrong.
Shanehornglim
pizza the waitress recommended was bland. service was quite disappointing as we had to ask multiple times for a jug of water. pizzas are by no means cheap

Sunday afternoons are a treat for Yvonne and I.
We regularly take in a movie at Nova and then adjourn to Cafe Corretto for a late lunch / early dinner.
House Sauv Blanc is chilled and very palatable and Bruschetta tops it off for starters.
Mains are huge so we normally order entrees. The Salmone is to die for and it is difficult to pick the pasta to have it with. Their Spag Bol is hard to pass on and is one of my favourites. The meat sauce is sensational.
Coffee and Port finishes off a great day.
The Francese family ensure that everyone leaves full and smiling .
Rate it at 5/5 and recommend it as a great place to relax with friends both young and old

Had their focaccia prosciutto and risotto marinara tonight, and I gotta say it blew my mind. Pizza crust is thin and crispy, very delicious, best pizza I have had in a while. Service was a little slow though, but overall a great experience

Dropped in to this place over a weekend with friends to have dinner but all went in vain. Was amazed by the way they have maintained the place with Ferrari tucked up on the wall. Got seated and was shocked to see that the waiter didn't care to come and offer water and take down the order. He looked at us and ignored us as if he was too busy. We got frustrated and left. Wanted to share this incident about the poor service.

Wow, this restaurant has it all, great food, excellent, polite, friendly & efficient uniformed staff, fantastic décor (a cameraman's dream especially if you're interested in racing cars) and background music at a level one could easily be heard over. After perusing their vast menu I chose their home made Salmone (ham, touch of cream in napoli sauce, smoked salmon & parsley) at $18.40 which was served steaming hot and within 10 minutes of ordering, truly yummy so much so that I sent my compliments back to the chef. Then for dessert I chose their Tartufo at $8.50 (the presentation was truly unique & very Italian). This restaurant rocks, I genuinely couldn't find fault with it and excellent quality value at $26.90 for the 2 courses. Note: It's a very rare occasion I give any restaurant a 5/5 rating but this restaurant deserved it.

Oct 06, 2016 update

Revisited Cafe Correctto for lunch today and chose an entrée sized Beef Lasagne at $11.20 followed by their Passion Fruit Delight at $8.50. The lasagne was really enjoyable, soft (just as I like it, not partly burnt like some restaurants) and the dessert, was beautifully presented (Italian style) and sent my taste buds off to heaven. As for the super friendly, efficient staff members, nothing has changed still fantastic. This restaurant's food quality for the money paid is astounding. My rating below hasn't changed.

The Juror's Verdict: Food 5/5, Service Provision 5/5, Will I return: Yes, highly recommend - now two memorable experiences.

Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Was one of the best, now terrible service. Had to request from 3 different waiters for pamasan cheese for over 20 mins. Ordered our pizza at the start however after finishing our main after 45 mins, we assume they had forgot. When we went to pay, we were told to wait 3 mins for the pizza. Instead waited 10 mins for them to make. Even after receiving our pizza they didnt even apologise for the wait. Urgh, completely dissapointed.

This amazing bunch of chefs have absolutely made my day!

In addition to the outstanding food we enjoyed at this Italian Restaurant, the owner and this lovely lady went out of their way find something I'd forgotten on my table last night! "He dug the bins like a cat", they said!

So so so grateful to them! Absolutely amazing service!
Jonathan Rubino
DO NOT GO HERE!The food was quite average (although large potion sizes) and the lady who served us was quite rude and gave us attitude when we needed more time to decide what to order. When I went to pay the bill and the manager completely ignored me standing directly in front of him for a good 10 minutes while he spoke to his friend. Later on a waitress left in tears. Just a bizarre experience.

Friendly staff. Great food. Good atmosphere and heaters during the winter so outside dining is enjoyable. The staff are always friendly and pleasant. Wait times can be hard to handle but it is Carlton so anywhere half decent will have a wait. Love the theme (f1) . Would recommend the lasagna and most pizzas

I was very disappointed. Service is ok but waiters have no idea about the menu is all about (except for the Italian waiter!) Overpriced for sure but must admit mains are really filling. Anyway, I am Italian and this is not worth to be called real Italian food!

Cafe Coretto does an amazing Quattro formaggio pizza. Their starter bread is also very good, other pizzas are not so bad, will probably be back to try several more to make better judgement. Pastas we had; one Napoli and one bolognese, just save it for home because it'll only result in disappointment. Bolognese mince was as dry as sand, and the Napoli sauce was a mixture of heartburn and half a cup of sugar. Won't be back for the pastas, but a late night pizza is still in the cards. Reasonable pricing for a Lygon St restaurant, and the wait staff are pretty attentive and very friendly. Atmosphere isn't bad, it's kind of Italian diner-esque, but it works for them.

Excited to take 3 boys aged 14, 10 & 9 for dinner here. Unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. Waiters pounced for our order within seconds of being seated, no time to look at the menu. We had 5 different waiters throughout the evening. Adjoining tables were wiped down with Windex whilst we were eating, which was nasty. Orders were half taken. Food was average. Ice cream good. Calamari terrible. Only able to order house wine by the glass. Not impressed.

Had an American pizza here tonight. The base was thin & tasty. The salami had a nice peppery zing however the whole thing was just way too oily. I doubt I will go back here as the other diners I was with did not enjoy their pasta (bland creaminess) & pizza (wet base, not cooked thru). Disappointed!

Most likely the worst italian food and service I've ever experienced on Lygon st so far. Dreadful from the beginning to the very end. Starting with a very long wait for having 2 glasses of water. The table where we were seated barely cleaned, the glasses seemed overly ruined by the dishwashing machine. The water they brought was lukewarm. Even though the restaurant was pretty busy inside and thus quite noisy, we could hear the chief yelling out from his kitchen making the atmosphere very unpleasant. We ordered a pizza and pasta, the pizza was dry and tasteless, the base tasted like not fresh and too much sauce for the pasta. The waiters and waitresses working there didn't look like happy to work at this restaurant what it can be understandable. When I asked for the bill, the staff coldly urged me on heading towards the checkout where I have found the manager watching the TV without paying attention to patrons. The badly trained staff is simply the reflection of its management : TERRIBLE !

This has to be one of my favourite restaurants on Lygon St. It's not the flashiest or most expensive but it has a certain charm that keeps me coming back. Home of the Ferrari Club of Melbourne, the restaurant is filled with Formula 1 memorabilia which is fantastic to have a look at. The menu is chock full of pizza and pasta - pizza alone takes up 2 pages with something for everyone. Tonight I went for the arrabilia sauce with tortellini - rich tomato sauce with hot salami, olives and anchovies. The carbonara here is also really good and the pizzas have a beautiful hand made crust that isn't too doughy or thick. Good choice if you want family style Italian.

It was just OK. Result will be:
Food Quality: 3.5
Staff service: 3.5
Payment opetion & behaviour @ the till: 1 (because minimum eftpos is $20, no split bill & sure charge for credit card = WTH) & the guy was so cold & unfriendly.
Today we all shared the Pasta platter and garlic bread. Both tasted great. Especially the carbonara. Service was average. Waitresses didn't have a clue. But very cheap and good food. I would go again.

In our top three of favourite pizzas in Melbourne, and we've compared dozens. Really tasty, light base. Perfect spot for a hot melbourne summer night.

I usually have various kind of pasta in this restaurant. A rival of next door restaurant. And can be very crowded on weekend. Popular with local and students.

Cafe corretto was my favourite restaurant back in uni time. Now i only go back once a year. Having said that,Corretto has never let me down. What I love is their salmone pasta and Avocado cream based pasta. Tonight, I went back at 10:30pm for a real late dinner and we were served by friendly and attentive staff, and with the food that I have no complaint about. Will be back after a year again for sure.

I was not impressed with my meal here. As previously mentioned, service is barely adequate, and I'd add to that and say "so is the food". There are plenty of better options on Lygon street.

Hit and miss. Service is average which often leads to problems with the food. Ordered the parma and got a schnitzel. Asked for my correct meal and they just brought out a bowl of sauce for the top of the chicken. Oh well. Lots of other good options around.

I went here couple of days ago and I was really dissapinted with their service. I ordered their pizza and carbonarra tortellini. I think I ordered the wrong pizza, they served my pizza with anchovies and I didnt like it. Their tortellini carbonara was okay but when I ate them too much, it felt too ceamy and I can tasted their cheese.

Best pizza on Lygon street. The 'zucca' pizza is one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten to be quite frank - however the timeliness of food arriving / service isn't always that great.

My place to go for generous-portion pasta on Lygon. Dishes have satisfying proportion and of relatively lower prices compared to the surrounding. Pasta is good in general. Their carbonara is creamy and rich. Marinara is yummy too. I do not like theor pesto sauce. Lasagna isn’t the best I have had, the pasta is a bit stodgy, so as the tortellini. Pizzas are sizzling hot when served and taste good. My previous review has commented on their lacking of staff. It was taking ages just to get a few glasses of water. However, this problem has been relieved in my recent visit. They have more waiting staff now. They are friendly and helpful.

So I just had a main of Quattro Formagi Ravioli Pasta. It tasted great, everything was delicious. But the portion I give it a 2/5 not as filling as expected.

Less than average. Prices are ok but do not expect great quality. Better off to go somewhere else

Used to be a regular! found some place better. My partner and i were regular visitors of this cafe until we found a better taste and value for money. We faced lonnnnng waiting times for service and meals, not quite a great option for pizza but the one thing i remember well was the bruschetta that they served. Average would be the word. I know there are better places out there so dont think we'd be going back since they really need to up their speed and quality, Portions and menu pretty standard.

Disappointing. Waited 50 minutes to get our meal.Once the order was taken waitress disappeared. When meal arrived it was not complete.Meals arrived at different intervals.Used to be great place but the last two sessions have been terrible.Manager had to chase up order.

Will take a break and try somewhere else

I quite like saltimbocca so I thought I’d give it a go here. What came out was not what I’d been visualising when I ordered. It seemed like the ham had been tossed with the veal rather than being layered on top and I also couldn’t see any sage leaves. Although the meat was very hot, the surrounding sauce had already started to congeal when it was placed on the table; it didn’t look particularly appetising. The flavours were still OK, though not outstanding, and at least the veal wasn’t overcooked, but it isn’t something I’d order again. I don’t know how this place is garnering the votes it has. Well, I’m glad to join the 18% who disagree. Lygon St offers an endless range of Italian restaurants and cafés. I’ll go somewhere else next time.

We noticed they had a drinks section dedicated solely on spiders and we clapped our hands in glee upon noticing the name blue heaven. Instant order!

The sauce was creamy and was well-portioned as it coated my pasta well .. and it wasn't like those pasta dishes where you had to kind of save the sauce for your pasta due to the lacking amount of the sauce .. The seafood was not too bad as well, it contained octopus, mussels, squid and prawns .. The cutest thing was that the Fettucine was colourful XP hehehehehhe ... Sadly, I finished 98% of this dish and was nearly full, so I didn't get my 3 course meal, and instead got myself a 2 course meal

All is not lost with a chicken Parmesan. Granted, the meat sauce took away some from what I would prefer, but it was still good, because I cleaned the plate. I’ve learned my lesson for the night, or at least another one. The first lesson being, head to Laksa King when it opens, or find a less busy night. Bah! I also must admit here my wife’s dish once again trumps mine.

Worst steak in the world! Worst manager in the world! Midium rare is well done, medium is over cook, manager doesn't accept it and got very bad attitude , won't go there again, none of our friends go back again! Rubber steak!

Definitely not a good pizza. Trust me I'm Italian.. My son and I were at a function in the city last night and thought we would go to Lygon street for Pizza. Unfortately we chose to have one at Corretto. Now the topping was ok but the base was TERRIBLE, soggy, rubbery and definitely not made with any passion at all. If my pizza base came out like that on my home made pizza, I would throw it out and start again. I am not sure what the rest of the food is like but DO NOT have the Pizza.
To top it off when the thick Italian accented waiter asked, "how was the pizza?" And I said the base was 'Terrible' he was surprised that someone had told it as it was. service was ok, But the Pizza, Horrible.
if you are after a real Awsome Pizza experience, made with Passion and no expences spared on the quality of the toppings, pizza base, not to mention the Pastas and risottos, and the wood oven it is cooked in, you must try Mr Woodstack In Carrum..........that's correct in Carrum, you will not regret the drive...................

Great pizza and pasta. We have eaten here on quite a few occasions and keep coming back (and not just because my hubby loves f1). The food is reasonably priced and it is delicious! Even had the chicken and avocado and it was great too! We refuse to sit outside because of disgusting smokers but inside is great! Worth the line up!

Average on Lygon. Went on a Saturday night. All mains came out at different times which was annoying and awkward.

My pizza was ok, calamari ok, our friend's pasta dishes looked really bad. On the plus side, House red wine was $4.80 and really nice!

Do not eat at this place. I'm not sure if the owner purposely hiring people who doesn't know anything to cut cost? Waited for 45min for a meal while I asked twice to the same waitress who took my order and still didn't get it. The food taste like any other Italian place anyways so why go there?
