Such a gem of a place, went on a quiet weeknight. The food is delicious and service is superb too. Loved the chicken gyros, lamb, calamari and eggplant dip. Really authentic and glad we came in despite how quiet it looked! Wine is served in crystal glasses if you're into that sort of thing.

I’ve been to my fair share of Greek restaurants and this place has to be my favourite. Authentic and tasty! I took my family of 4 here, and we had the shared plates which came with 5 entrees, a platter of meat and then desert and boy was that enough for us! Generous serving sizes for a very reasonable price! Thank you again, we’ll be back!

Amazing Greek food. The traditional banquet is so filling. Entrees, salads, then a tray if succulent lamb, chicken, rissoles, sausages, cutlets... Tender, amazingly juicy food for such a good price per person. Then, sweets... You will roll out a happy human being after treating yourself to Spitiko (or Theodora's) menu. Thankfully, a tram is close, or plenty of parking nearby.

Went with a group of 5 on Thursday night and thoroughly enjoyed the service and the food. The waiter had a good sense of humour and the food was very delicious. Unassuming type of restaurant but once you're inside, it's a place you'll want to come back to. Nice wine glasses btw.

A great place to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine. The owner serves quality Greek food in a relaxing atmosphere. Overall the food was excellent and the staff friendly. Can definitely recommend this restaurant, for anyone wanting to enjoy Mediterranean food.
Nick Papas
This place is one of the finest Greek restaurants I've been to. The food came out quick and plentiful. The waitresses were great especially Tina who was so helpful. Great place guys.
Jamie Stevens
Terrible service probably the worst service at a Greek restaurant I have been to we were the first people in for dinner we ordered at the same time as another family who's food came promptly probably 4 to 5 dishes we waited 30 minutes to get one dish then 10 minutes later came another then after asking the other dish came so a share meal was spread over 30 minutes without an apology rude and terrible service wouldnt bother wasting your money when there's plenty of other Greek places around the city who deliver I would hate to come here when it's actually busy
Tasha Peck
Absolutely hated the service. Tried to give constructive criticism towards the end because we felt we weren't being attended to at all throughout the meal and ended up with the manager/staff saying that he would like to make a complaint about us! About us? What type of restaurant tells a customer who is upset about the service that they would like to make a complaint about us? This does nothing, this goes nowhere and all it does is give the manager a chance to vent his frustration of his shit service to his paying customers. Definitely will tell everybody how appalling this terrible place was.

Best Greek in Melbourne, beautiful food and lovely staff!

Had the most beautiful meal. Truly a family affair. Best Greek food ever.

What can I say about spitiko... I love the place, from the food to the service it's always bang on. John and the staff make it an occasion every time you walk in the door
Yasha Aronov
Great place, excellent service and nice food!!! I'm planning to bring friends.
Jaime Dean Penna
Lovely staff and beautiful food! Will definitely be back again! Love that they keep it traditional.

Great food and service great Authentic Greek food good vibe

Most disrespectful service I have ever experienced. The waiter pushed tables against my father (senior citizen) as he sat on the other end to signal him to move. I told him you should ask him to move before you push tables into his chest. He told me that he is Greek and people should get the message???? I have never met a rude Greek before...average food....had much better at Yia Yia's house. #nevergoingback

Delicious and a great vibe. Satisfied my craving for Greek food and culture perfectly!

Cannot speak highly enough of this place. Great tasty cuisine, fabulous atmosphere and the greatest owners and staff. Bravo to Gianni and his staff and parea. Wonderful experience.

Ordered takeaway from here last night and it was a pleasure. It also felt like we were dining in Greece. Very authentic and clearly made with love. Highly recommend the seafood platter. Can't wait to go back and dine in!

Always enjoyed dining in here, takeaway is just as good. Lovely moussaka and feta fries go down a treat. Keep up the good work guys :)

Beautiful food and excellent service as always, thankyou
Chrissy_abdelmalek
Very poor experience overall, especially considering the location and pricing of the venue. Our food took over one hour to arrive, the waiter couldn’t speak English and was difficult to communicate with. Our chips arrived burnt, the meat didn’t taste great, one entree and one main were entirely forgotten. The entire evening was spent going back and forth between the waiter, owner and our table in order to rectify the issues above. Would not recommend.
Alexis
Terrible service from the incredibly rude owner. My partner and I ended up walking out of the restaurant after the shocking way we were treated. Do not eat here, save your money for businesses that value their customers.
Adrian
My FiancĂ© and I came here for dinner with a booking. The owner then greeted us saying are you with “Groupon or just a booking”? We immediately went online and saw a deal for $59. We were in the middle of paying for the deal on Groupon after having asked a waitress if we should pay Groupon or the front desk. The owner then came over and then said you can’t use Groupon as you have already come into the store which is absolutely not fair. I began to explain to him that we have not paid for anything as of yet and is no different to us booking through Groupon and coming back. He refused to honour the deal and we again explained to him that he is losing business by doing this as we actually have come here multiple times and enjoyed the food. His excuse for this was that it is “marketing” so this somehow doesn’t apply to us???<br/><br/>Absolutely lousy customer experience and it is clear the level of professionalism in the front of house is severely lacking. We will never be coming back here on principle.

The waiter didn’t seem to know what he was doing. Had the meals wrong. We got serviced food we didn’t order. The food ordered didn’t come until nearly 11pm but we ordered at 8. The seafood platter was way too pricy for what was on the plate, given lots of calamari, but only two pieces of grilled fish, 4 pieces of prawns, 2 scallops screwers, one grilled cheese, bread with dips, for $110. I honestly had better seafood platter for the same amount of money. Was told could split bills but when we got to the counter was told can’t do that. Couldn’t do margarita or pinacolada when they were on the menu, apparently was out of tequila on a Saturday night. Overall food was ok, quantity was there but everything else was disappointing. Probably won’t go there again.

Very impressed with the hospitality and how welcoming the staff were during our visit. Our table of two had the banquet which started with 4 dips, saganaki & pita bread. While not noteworthy, all were enjoyable and a solid start. We shared a Greek salad and meat platter for our mains. The components of the meat platter were well-seasoned and full of flavour. The lamb and patties were a standout. For dessert, we were served Greek doughnuts which were fried perfectly, the nuts on top added a nice texture which complimented the doughnuts nicely.

Thank you for an amazing dinner tonight Hugo! Your hospitality and genuine warmth made for a great night and even better food! Your passion for culture and history taught us so much about beautiful Theadora, and not to mention your many talents keeping us on our toes all night. We will definitely be back soon, and can’t wait for more delicious food and life stories from you!xxx

The restaurant is new to the area so why not try it out... the cuisine is delicious... traditional Greek style... and the service very good... try the banquet!

Stumbled across this pace for a last minute birthday.  As partner is Greek Cypriot, we were prepared to be underwhelmed as often nationals are away from home.  We could not have been more delighted with the warmth of service, true to recipe quality and the overall ambience. The hosts were passionate, attentive and thoughtful about everything.   We will be back!<br/>Thank you............
Tony
Went here as part of family weekend away. Went with Mel and her kids. Restaurant and decor was fine. We started off with three dips and bread. All this was great. Nice. We then decided to go 2 large platters for 8 of us. The amount of food was underwhelming and plates were packed with sausage and patties. The cheap stuff. Potatoes a bit average with occasional surprise of undercooked ones. Salad was fine. Chicken meat was tasty. What do I say? Average food for an average restaurant. Very annoyed their actual menu is very different to what is on Zomato:( clearly wont recommend and won’t be back

Oh this place..... The best meat you’ll eat, the chicken is to die for and if you’re lucky enough to be there for the lamb on the spit, AMAZING!! Just ask for the feast, you won’t go hungry!!!

Having lived for years in Cyprus, we were looking for authentic Greek cuisine in Melbourne that would not cost arm and leg, and this place is exactly what we were hoping to find! Meat plate is an absolute must try, also beautiful grilled octopus and wonderful house wine. Made us feel so nostalgic! efharisto para poli!

What a fantastic restaurant! The food was divine! I highly recommend the potatoes! Super delicious and wonderful hospitality from John the owner! A must try in Melbourne!

Terrible service we were the first people in the place we ordered our food didn't come a mother family who ordered at the same time or just after got all there dishes whilst we sat and sat and sat half an hour later one dish comes then 10 minutes later after I asked another comes then 10 minutes later another one so when you havering a share meal you want all your dishes to come at once like the other people got in the restaurant the most pathetic excuse for a Greek restaurant I have ever been to usually you're welcomed and the service is second to non but this place I wouldn't even bother wasting your time and effort go spend your money else where around the city cause I can garuntee you will get better service and food

Order everything and regret nothing, then order some more because the food is incredible. Twice I've been here and twice I've been blown away by how good the food is. Beautiful and tasty Greek food designed to share among friends.<br/><br/>The host is larger than life, friendly and welcoming, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and delicious meal.

So I can only assume that the previous reviews are fakes or the people who wrote them think the local kebab shop is a good night out. This place is woeful. Started out poorly with a waitress who couldn't have looked more morose. She was dull, slow and disinterested. Unfortunately things didn't improve with the food. Dry over cooked meats and a beetroot salad that consisted of pickled beetroot mixed with some questionable yogurt and crusty bits of parsley, just awful. The menus are dirty, the walls had food splats on them, the salt shakers were greasy (filthy actually) and to top things off there was a hair in my food. Needless to say I could've got a better meal (and service) from a dumpster.

I went here last night and the food was amazing the flavours melted in my mouth and was to die for. Best Greek ever!!!!!! I would recommend it to anyone

We attended using a coupon deal and enjoyed the atmosphere and a delicious meal. They were busy that night, and we were provided with two delicious greek salads to compensate for the delay in receiving our meat platter. Most memorable were the greek donuts with honey.

The service was good and the atmosphere was fun. We ordered the chicken souvlaki for a late night snack - it was good but nothing special. Worth a visit.

We always eat here with our group of friends that are a mix of GF, Vego, allergies to seafood and meat lovers.. We go in for the banquet, tell the guys what food issues there are at the table and they cater for everyone beautifully!! It's a rare restaurant that can pull that feat off!!! The food is lovely, well priced and we can BYO wine. We love spitiko. Be back on Friday night😀 thanks for the great service and food guys!!!
Shlomi
The tiniest souvlaki I have ever seen. I thought we ordered from the kids menu. No, that's the size, 3 bites with 20 grams of meat and you've done. Pretty disappointing, especially since we've done take away.<br/>Try somewhere else, so many good souvlaki out there.
HellenicDiner
Tried this place out after hearing about them due to their sponsorship of my favourite sporting club South Melbourne FC (www.smfc.com.au). We went with a group of four and got the $55 set menu. The food served was not only plentiful but delicious and beautifully presented. Really top notch and modern Greek Taverna flavours here, the highlight for me being the tender lamb souvlaki fillet in the meat platter. The ambience is very warming with excellent friendly service and the food was delivered with great pacing. In summary, if you're looking for relatively modern, tasty and super value Greek Taverna fare, this place is highly recommended.

Walked in today on a cold August night and was warmly greeted by a jolly grill man named Tony who i later found out was the manager.. We decided to have something light as we had reservations to another place later on in the night, we opted for the chicken gyro souvlaki.. Took one bite into this delicious wrap and my taste buds started dancing like a middle aged greek woman at a Demis Roussos concert.. The tomatoes cut not to thick but not too thin, the meat generously scattered throughout and the chips lightly blanched in a delicious oil that could heal Achilles wounds with the smallest of drips.. topped off with a smear of mustard and tzatziki that were just battling for my taste buds affection.. All in all a great experience with much to offer 10/10 well done spitiko nail on the head!

We were regulars 3 years ago and the food was great. We have been for a couple of years. We went back 3days ago and was very disappointed. <br/>We ordered the Saganaki and pickled octopus for entree and the grilled meat platter to share between the two of us.<br/>The Saganaki was almost cold and wasn't the best we have had but we were hungry so we ate it. The octopus was tasteless and rubbery and we had a couple of bites and left most of it. <br/>The grilled meat consisted of 2 lamb skewers, chicken and lamb souvlaki. The lamb meat on the skewers were cold in the middle, it was like they had just tried to reheat it but didn't do a very good job of it. We let the waiter know and he took the platter away and then came back and said 'we are making you another platter and the meal is for free for the inconvenience to you'. You can imagine we were impressed that they offered to do that and we were happy. The second platter came out and we grabbed the lamb skewers and took a bite...the meat was clearly off...we spat it out into a napkin. This was enough for us and lost our appetite. We decided to just finish our drink and go. Our waiter, who was really great, noticed we weren't eating and did ask us if everything was OK. We didn't want to complain to him as he had looked after us well, however we should have been upfront with him. My partner didn't want to offend them so she asked if we could take the food away. <br/>When we got the the bill, they charged us for the octopus, Saganaki and 4 beers, it came to $71, I was shocked! Then to add salt to the wound they charged me an $1 extra for using my card to pay, so all up $72.<br/>Needless to say that we wouldn't bother going back again.

Two years ago we had the best Greek dinner at Spitiko, and now we're back! For a four course dinner with wine for four ($95) valued at $197.60??  The deco hasn't changed except for the addition of a few pieces of art and the 'No Pokemon' sign, but the deal has. As we had five people instead of four (long story, summary is there is a reason I'm in charge of organizing dinners), we ordered an extra entree to share. So for $95 + $16.50 we had...
Thanos
This would have to be the worst meal we've had at a restaurant in a long time. Dry and tasteless meat platter, dubious quality seafood, stale sweets topped off by a hideously expensive and substandard wine list. I'd call it garbage but I don't want to offend garbage. As a Greek Australian it offends me that this place calls itself Greek. It's not. It's just an overpriced and substandard dive. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! <br/>

We went to this establishment for s take away souvlaki and we were very disappointed.. Considering there are many Greek restaurants to choose from, this particular one, does not seem intent on enticing its customers back.. Not only were the prices ridiculous, the size of the souvlaki and its content were a joke.. One tiny spoonful of tzatziki, maybe two-three pieces of meat and the rest chips... They even forgot the tomato as let's face it, it was a complicated order... <br/>Not good value when eating in.. Prices way over priced... Not good value when taking away either.. <br/>Jim's Greek tavern on Johnson St, can feed 4 people for the price of one in this joint... <br/>Just because you can give your address in Sth Melb, does not give you the right to rip off customers... <br/>Absolutely will not go back and will sing to high heaven, to any one who'll listen as to how bad this place is... Not even worthy of one star.....

Spitiko – our reliable local serving plates of lovely dips, pita, saganaki and grilled meats, perfect on a cold rainy night to bunker down in, their house reds are a decent drink and you and your closest can curl up and eat some real comfort food. Dips with tarama, eggplant, tzatziki and the most beautiful pita breads, all warm and fluffy, you’d feel sorry the gluten free crowd here.

Groupon deal - food lovely, atmosphere upbeat, vibrant, relaxed, casual. Don't need a deal to have a evening of good food, good won't & fun - will come again with or without a deal😜

Thank you John and Tracey and all his Staff. <br/><br/>We Celebrated our Daughter's Christening few weeks back and I cannot speak any more highly of the friendliness, helpfulness and service we were provided.<br/><br/>John was very Accomodating to all my needs and had no issues with what I wanted and was very flexible with everything. <br/><br/>The food firstly was beautiful and it just kept coming out ...so much food!! Also the kids food was above standard then your average nugget and chips, so I was really happy with that.<br/><br/>The Staff were very attentive and friendly to all my guests needs. Drinks were not just your standard house wines etc they were all bottled and the good stuff.<br/><br/>We had nearly a full house and John managed to still fit my lollie buffet and magician for the kiddies.<br/><br/>He allowed us to come in the night before to set up the lollie buffet and he and his beautiful wife helped us and she even set it up and finished it off the next day for me. It looked amazing. thanks so much Tracey!<br/><br/>The restaurant itself is clean modern and funky with the little details that John has added like the photos and the signs and he even put my Daughters name on the sign when guest walked in they could see this.. These are little things that I did not ask for that he did.<br/><br/>Overall I am extremely happy that we did end up having our Daughters Christening here and will definitely go back for dinner with family and friends or hold another function here. <br/><br/>John is larger then life and a dream to deal with, he made everything work and his restaurant and food speaks for itself due to his success. <br/>Thanks Again John and Tracey and all your fabulous Staff, we will always remember our Daughter's christening as a fantastic day.

A warm, cosy and friendly Greek restaurant located in South Melbourne. The souvalaki and gyros were really good. Loved the saganaki but found the seafood platter a bit bland. Good selection of wines and excellent service.
Christina
3/6 of us got food poisoning after leaving then you cant really consider ever going back. However Host was hilarious engaging and attentive. Food lacked depth. However as a huge photography fan the walls were covered with beautiful warm old black and white family photos. If only the food gave me the same fuzzy feeling.

We love this restaurant food is plentiful and always spot on this is a lively place and we love the history and story of this restaurant <br/>Do not eat before you go there .... Or you will not enjoy the full buffet .... Happy to go back there again and again

Unpretentious home cooked Greek experience with our wonderful host John Kalos. The best hand foraged tatziki ever, perfectly cooked lamb, try the Mountain Fish. Definitely will return for more laughs and banter on our next visit to Melbourne.

Love, love this place, feels like home for us both. Home cooked greek food that tastes amazing . John and Tony are such beautiful people and they guide their staff so beautifully. The service is great and they always know what we will like or whats cooking thats special. We come from Kilsyth to get there!! Oh and the best Souvlaki's , just like Greece .<br/>Can't wait to go again<br/>xxxx

This restaurant was recommended to me by a Greek colleague, after I was raving about Hellenic Republic Brunswick East. Due to the different price points, its not fair to compare the two, so I wont. But I apologise IF my review is a little bit tainted by my experience at Hellenic Republic.<br/><br/>This restaurant was a disappointment. We dined on a Thursday night, and the restaurant was about one third full.  Decor was dated.  Service was non-existant. While patrons known to the owner were greeted affectionately and received service, as first time diners at Spitiko, we were ignored and treated as second class citizens.  We had to ask for drinks.  I had wanted a second drink, but no one offered, and by the time a waitress came near us, I'd had enough and was wanting to leave. Food was standard Greek fare, available at any suburban Greek Taverna.  <br/><br/>There was even a Fawlty Towers moment. The person I was dining with, asked the waitress if there was a Ladies room. The waitress said, "yes there is", and walked off!<br/><br/>Wont be dining here again.  Given its location, with the right management, this restaurant has potential to go a little bit up market, and offer more than your standard suburban Taverna.

It's always so nice eating at Spitiko. The waiters a really friendly. I love that they will basically order for you when you're not sure of what you're after. The food is fantastic ! Meat is perfectly cooked and the loukoumades are a must try. The restaurant has a romantic feel with dim lighting. Highly recommend !
James
I recommend Spitiko to anyone who wants a great, fun, tasty and occasionally interactive dining experience. The food is always consistent!<br/><br/>John, the owner is worth the trip down to Spitiko alone. He is an out-going fellow, and isn't shy to say hello. <br/><br/>It's best to just sit yourself down and not worry about the menu - the staff will take care of the minor details. I really love the meat tray, as it is always hot, fresh and tasty. There are many seasonal smaller dishes that seem to change often too. The octopus is also a favourite.<br/><br/>Spitiko is also good for a casula pop in;  Just order one of their excellent souvlakia and sit at the bar. Don't skip dessert; the Loukoumades are excellent.
Alex
Yeah nah. <br/>VERY slow and inattentive service. <br/>Charged for additional food we never received and had to reorder twice.<br/>Food was lacking in flavour and below average.<br/>If you're one of the owners mates it looks like you get looked after ok but if you're just a random punter forget it.
GGx
Been here twice now, the first experience was fantastic, the second not so much. Inconsistency in food and service just doesn't do it for me.

Love this place.  We've been coming here for ages and it's become a regular place for us to relax and enjoy an evening out.  It's a great evening with excellent food, excellent service from lovely staff in a welcoming and comfortable environment.  The mixed grill is our favourite because it's tasty and works so well with sides and salads to share.
Munchkinmichie
Had the mixed grill platter, souva and dips, refreshing change from the normal fare on Clarendon street. Really homey feel to the place and friendly service!
Candice_presnillo
Appalling level of service. The host John decided to push a few tables into one of the elderly dinners to give him the message to move instead of just asking him to move. Wow! When a review was posted on facebook he was just disrespectful!!!<br/>Total fail on customer service.<br/>The food was average...better off going somewhere else if your expecting good quality food like from your Greek Grandma .... John admitted it's nothing like that....Don't get the strawberry ice cream the coles brand is much better! Seriously you are better off eating somewhere else!

Amazing!!!!. Everything was simply amazing! Fresh, exactly what the word "spitiko" means, home made! From the bread to starters to main course to the desserts!

Food was amazing, especially the lemon potatoes. Will deffinetly be coming back

Spitiko South Melbourne delicious. Beautiful Greek food with the cabbage rolls a real stand out. The host John was very attentive to all of our needs. We'll definitely be back!
Joanrog14
Great Greek food. We have been to Spitiko previously, but not for quite a while, as the last time we are little disappointed but decided to take advantage of a Scoopon voucher special and very glad we did. The 6 course banquet was great, very generous size serves and every dish absolutely delicious. The staff were attentive and the setting very comfortable. Although only two us us dined there, this would great for a large group also, as the restaurant is quite spacious allowing for larger tables. We will certainly be going back.
Susiebrown
Appalling service and Ordinary food. Dropped in for dinner this evening as I had always wanted to try this restaurant. We were greeted as though we were unwanted arrivals and then left at out table for ages before we were served. There was no description or elaboration on the items in the limited menu and it seemed that our waiter would rather be at home watching TV or doing anything else rather than serving us. There was no assistance with the wine menu either. The food was OK but once again our waiter could not be bothered to tell us what was in the set menu that she slapped down on the table. Really ordinary night out - there are so many better places to go in this part of Melbourne or further afield. IF these guys are any indication it's no wonder Greece in in the state that it's sadly in. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere for your hard earned night out!
Gixxergal
Amazing food and Excellent service. We dined here using a scoopon deal thinking it would be pretty ordinary and possibly small servings due to the special deal. Absolutely amazed at the quality and quantity of the food and had the best waiter attend to us. <br/>We definitely will be returning and would recommend to all our friends and family.

If I could think of a few words to describe Spitiko – I’d say “hearty family restaurant that whips out home-cooked Greek meals”. When we were finishing our meal, the restaurant was quickly filled up with groups of family diners. The food was not only delicious, it was good value too.
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
Dinner with jas at Spitiko, a Greek restaurant that starts with a funny z sign that in maths means "the sum of". Google translate says 'Spitiko' means homemade, which suggests nothing that's packaged in foil or frozen somewhere far far away. The philosophy here is simplicity and freshness of great, home cooked Greek cuisine.
FoodieAboutTown
Spitiko has been around for a while and for some reason we have never ventured in but on a cold dark night I get a craving for good Greek food and my friends on Urbanspoon tell me it’s a good spot to visit! It’s warm, welcoming and I am glad as soon as we get settled in with a glass of wine! The staff are lovely and friendly and funny! The menu is making me drool and the special Thursday night whole cooked lamb sounds damn tempting! But it’s our first time and I really want a few different dishes! I love dips! And this one is a winner! Gorgeous, warm, fresh pita and wonderful ‘Tarama’ or taramosalata! When I ask why the abbreviation, the perfectly logical response of most people can’t pronounce it like that!!! It is perfect! Slight mix up with the cheese, I think I ordered halloumi with pomegranite but this was more like the saganaki with oregano and olives – who cares it is sensational! Perfectly sized portion of amazing cheese! For some reason I completely forget to take a picture of

We were privileged to indulge in some Greek inspired desserts. A particularly memorable dessert (and the dish of the night) was the halva ice cream - it was absolutely delicious.

I did not stay for long. I did, however, look longingly at the whole lamb turning on the spit.

The room was full of people, the drinks were flowing, the delightful food was abundant. The event was very festive indeed, reflecting the strong Greek theme of the restaurant. The restaurant itself was fitted with a combination of traditional brick fixtures and minimalist wooden furniture. Adding liveliness to the ambiance was framed photos and decorations on the walls, and a bar on one side of the restaurant.<br/><br/>The event was opened with such a classic Greek starter; warm fresh pita bread and creamy mixed dips; Tzatziki (Greek-style yoghurt with garlic), Tarama (caviar dip), and Melitzanosalata (eggplant dip).<br/><br/>Then there was the succulent lightly fried calamari served in paper cones, and on the lighter sides were crumbed green olives and Kolokythanthoi Yemistoi (stuffed zucchini blossoms with rice) that was juicy and flavourful that made a nice light entrĂ©e.<br/><br/>Next were some scrumptious souvlaki teasers; one on a stick and a mini one in a pita unique with tzatziki chips and mustard – quite wicked!<br/><br/>The last round of entrĂ©es was angel hair pastry wrapped prawns also known as Garides Kataifi (succulent prawns with crunchy exterior - yum!), and Kaltsounia which was spinach-and-cheese-filled pastry which had a bit of

Hearty, well-seasoned and delicious Greek food. Spitiko makes you feel like you're at home.

Fantastic food and atmosphere a really good night with family or friends. Great staff and friendly and attentive service. One of the better Greek dining experiences we have had.

Terrific. Went to Spitiko on a Cudo voucher to try out as we have never been there before<br/>The food was plentiful and tasty. We couldnt eat it all <br/>Sunday night there was about 150 people there that says it all<br/>Value for money and will return again without voucher as we use vouchers to find some exciting restaurants and this is one.<br/><br/>Karen and Garry Haynes

Went there for dinner with friends and from the moment we walked in, everything was amazing! The service, the decor, the buzz of patrons around the room. The food is amazing!!!! Something like mum would cook at home, amazing Greek food! Name says it all!! Quality home cooked Greek food.

Will not disappoint!. Fantastic in all aspects. I proposed to my wife here and have been back since. John and Tony and all staff are very welcoming and hospitable! Be sure to bring your appetite with you though because you will not leave hungry! Highly recommend and will be sure to return!

Worth the Airfares. We had heard about several Greek eateries and Spitiko was one of them We dined there and had the banquet We made the big mistake of ordering extra dishes and as we found out later there was no way we would be able to eat them Lucky we got given containers to take the food home The food was superb Not one complaint The service was great Tony was our friend for the night and i say this because he was much more than a waiter If the food was not good then the night would have still been good just because of this man The loukoumathes for desert topped off a splendid meal When we get back to Melbourne we will be back there for sure

Best Greek outside of Greece. Big call I know, but these guys are doing it right. Please make sure you go hungry, very hungry in fact...and thirsty. You will not be disappointed.<br/><br/>Great service, tasty Greek food and well made drinks - what more could one possibly want?<br/><br/>Yasou!

Best Greek restaurant within the area + surroundings. Can't come to South Melbourne and look past this place. From the cheerful management who make sure you're looked after all night, to the good Greek music and the quality of the food made there you won't be disappointed.<br/><br/>I finally made some time to check the place out last week (been meaning to for years now) and the first thing I thought to myself was "why has it taken me so long to come here?!"<br/><br/>If you like good table service, staff who know how to make you laugh and enjoy your night and you like a good Greek meal then you know where to suss out next.<br/><br/>P.S - The frappethes here are amazing. Best frappes in the area, not that there are too many places in the CBD/South Melb/Port Melb/Albert Park that do frappes but this place takes the cake. Only downside is the lack of Greek cakes on offer on the menu! :( But the loukoumades more than make up for that!!

Comedy wins. The guys who run this place could make money on the comedy festival circuit. Really engaging and friendly, they make you feel like you've dropped in to a friendly next door neighbour's place for a meal. And the meals are great. On a warm day I didn't want anything too heavy, and instead they delighted me with a series of tasty treats that hit the mark. Great Greek food.

Fantastic venue. I recently held my daughters baptism at Spitiko and loved it. The food was great and the service was exceptional. The feedback from my guests was very positive and everyone absolutely loved the food. This restaurant is a great venue for a function and I highly recommend it. The owner was very flexible, accommodating and a real joy to deal with.

Friendly staff.... Decent food... Cool atmosphere. Not a fan of the Greek rap music but all in all I love this place.

I've had a take away souvlaki here before and it was perfection so I made a mental note to come back when it was permissible in my schedule. So, we finally ventured over and in for dinner.... Great, real friendly service from the get go (Great personalities). Amazing food, good service. Very happy. New favourite Greek restaurant.

Love Spitiko!!. Have been coming to Spitiko for years and from the get go have never been disappointed. The food has always been exceptional, the service fantastic, such a warm and friendly atmosphere that makes you want to come back for more. Whether it be a dinner with a loved one, a group of friends or family, or even hiring out the whole place which we did for our engagement Spitiko can cater to your every need. What is normally quite a stressful experience John helped make one of the best I could have asked for. It was a night where I got everything I wanted and more. This is the place to visit as they will cater to your every need! <br/><br/>- Tina A

Best Greek Food Outside of Greece. I have dined at Spiti several times and have always walked away absolutely satisfied by the experience - food, atmosphere, ambiance, price, service are all exceptional. As for the calamari - the only better I have had is sitting at a beachside tavern in Greece. Mouth watering!

Fantastic place & staff!. I travel from ivanhoe to eat at tis establishment. <br/>The food, the atmosphere, the fun and prices are extremely reasonable.<br/>Always accommodating and never been let down.<br/>We Bring clients, family and new friends all the time and then they bring their friends and so on.<br/>There are nights where the restaurant is busy & management make the utmost effort to make our experience fun and enjoyable on a personal level, not just a client.<br/>I would and will continue to recommend this establishment to all my piers.

Fantastic!. Dining at Spitiko is like having dinner at home with friends. Except the food is so much better than mine! I have always found the service to be excellent, the food sensational, the staff friendly and the management entertaining and incredibly helpful.<br/>Many thanks for the wonderful times I have had there, I will continue to go again and again. Oh, did I say 'again and again'?<br/>My most favourite Greek restaurant in Melbourne. :-)

Always have a great time at Spitiko; relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, simple tasty meals and not pretentious. Happy to while away many a hour seated outside with a bottle, platter and sides.

Worst place every I think. I'm not one to complain but this is one of the worst places I have ever been to. I was expecting better given urbanspoons 82% rating of this place at the time I went<br/>Things that I didn't like:<br/>-the meat was of low quality and really dry<br/>-the chicken was all those yuk little pieces with alot of skin<br/>-the chorizo was too soggy<br/>-the potatoes were very soggy<br/>-service isn't the best <br/>Given all this crap the place is an absolute rip of.<br/>I don't understand how a place like this can survive

Absolutely Spectacular. I have been here on a few occasions but not for over a year now. We needed a place where 4 different people with 4 different types of eating habits could be catered for (i.e. seafood only, meat and seafood, vegetarian). Spitiko is fantastic for this. There is an abundance of different kinds of wholesome, traditional and great tasting food. As a carnivore, you can't go past the Mix Grill. We had a Mix Grill for two between myself and my brother, and I can I tell you, apart from being absolutely great tasting, there was no way we were going to finish it. It was huge! And it was GREAT! You can't go past it. All mezzes that we ordered were absolutely divine, especially the saganaki. All the staff were very courteous, joyful and professional. A real treat for anybody who is after some traditional Greek cuisine.

Magnificent Food. Definitely going back. The food was delicious, fresh and generous. Service was prompt. The waitresses were polite and smiling. The chicken gyros was to die for.

Great Service and Great Food - a real Greek gem!. Went to dinner here a few weeks ago with some friends and thought it was great. The servings were perfect for sharing and great value for money. Oh and their house wine was delicious too - I would definitely go back!

I would challenge anyone to find me a better atmosphere and dining experience at another greek restaurant in Melbourne that could compare to spitiko. I've been here many times over the past two years and my fiancé and I have decided to hold our wedding reception here due to how fantastic the hospitality and food is at spitiko. John and his staff are nothing less than hilarious and helpful every single time. Food portions are amazing and the quality is incredible. LOVE IT!

Best souvalaki I have had
Davina
I really enjoyed that our restaurant host took time to stop and chat, let us know that Saganaki was best eaten soon after it's served, made sure we had enough to eat (in fact two of them regularly checked on us). Our dinner experience was enhanced because someone cared enough to make sure we were looked after. Thanks Ron!

The extra mile. Third time visiting this fine establishment and the food and service was magnificent as always. We had planned to stay for the evening and did them a favour by moving to the seats outside after finishing our meal (in plenty of time) so they could use the table again. As a result we were treated nothing short of royalty, including complimentary drinks! We left with full bellies and sore sides from laughing with Tony and the team. Thanks guys, a great night had by all and we will certainly be back.

The original copy, no1# souvlaki. Spitiko souvlaki<br/><br/>1. rapturous delight.<br/>2. an overpowering emotion or exaltation; a state of sudden, intense feeling.<br/>3. the frenzy of poetic inspiration.

Fantastic food and service. This place does Greek food exceptionally well and offers extremely good value. We went for a work function and everyone was left very satisfied with the food. Well recommended to all.

Nice but so full. Had a nice meal, bit too salty for us. We asked the waiter if we had ordered enough/too much he said all good, once we got our meals (for 3 ) could have feed 5, bit disappointed he didn't suggest we may have ordered too much. Don't think we will return but if you like Greek I'm sure you would like it.

Great family restaurant in South Melbourne. Restaurant that caters for all, both groups and couples, from families, friends, elderly couples etc. The restaurant has a great vibe and you could tell everyone was enjoying themselves. In terms of food, we went with the $40 banquet and the food was very tasty. A great feed for groups!

Greek local secret. Love this place, if we are dining as a family, this is where we all choose. The food is wholesome and packed full of flavour. Nearly always packed with locals who know a good thing when they taste it.

Birthday celebration. Having booked my birthday dinner at Spitiko, I was a little worried after reading the review by "concerned". I didn't need to be.... There was so much food that we were given containers to take home and it was a relief to have lunch taken care of the next day! Service was fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend Spitiko. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the experience!
