Review Guhng - Melbourne

Ziyang Luo
Here for a team outing. Juicy fried chicken and nice cut of meat. Meat are tender and cook to perfection. The charcoal definitely made the taste went to another level. The staff are friendly and attentive. The price is little expensive but definitely worth it.
Carlos Gonzalez
Nice Korean place atmosphere is full of hustle. Staff is attentive nice meat cuts the marinated rib meat cut is full of flavour must have soju and beer with meat. Keep an eye on staff when cooking meat they try to bbq all the meat in one go ask politely to slow down so you can enjoy the food whilst it's hot. If you like review please tick šŸ‘

The BBQ with all the extras is the dish to order - the quality and flavours were great, plus the experience with the staff preparing it right there on the table shouldn't be missed. The staff were friendly and helpful, taking the time to answer our questions. The atmosphere was friendly, not too busy, and felt relaxed. Not the cheapest, but it was worth it - so I'll return, but not too often. Would be good if we could book online too, there's a phone number to call and they called me back, but in the mean time I did start looking for another Korean BBQ. Glad they called back, really enjoyed the meal.

The quality of meat is very good. It is so tasty and Staffs are friendly

This must be the best Korean BBQ we have been to in Melbourne. And trust me we have been to many. The food was just awesome. The cuts of meat where juicy and cooked to perfection. The condiments are authentic and fresh. The Kimchi and pickled veg I must say where amazing, refreshing and cleansing. The service was to match the food, very attentive staff who where happy to make recommendations of the drinks and food we ordered. The decor itself is very traditional yet with style and funk. Thank you to the team who work there for an amazing and welcoming experience. And thank you very much for sending me home with some very nice Kimchi. We look forward to coming back.

Fun, impressive experience. Great food.

Food was awesome, had the premium beef set and the porterhouse was the bomb! Super tasty with good service for the value of money! Today was our anniversary and we had a good time there, especially with grapefruit flavoured soju!
Jess McGiffin
We had our anniversary here and I am so glad we chose this place. Arrived a bit early for our booking and the staff were fantastic and made sure we had a seat while waiting. The food was amazing, the staff fantastic and the atmosphere was great. We will definitely be back and can't wait to bring along some friends.
Albert Auwyang
Overcooked food by the waitress and overprice . Taste like normal korean bbq.. but place are fancy enough ..
Katrina Rayos
Love the look and feel of the restaurant! Food was amazing, a bit pricey but u can actually taste the quality of the food being served. We were a group of 9 and e spent abt $40 on food! A definite must try.
Dorothy Chung
Never miss to drop by this restaurant everytime Iā€™m in town. Grilled wagyu cube and the galbi is my fav! Donā€™t forget to book a table at least a day before coz walk-in you might be walking out dissapointed. Always fully book coz they are just so damn good šŸ˜Š

Delicious barbecue aside, had the tofu entree which is to die for. Lovely service, great ambience, funky venue off a funky, quintessential Melbourne laneway. Will be back!!

First experience with Korean BBQ and will definitely not be the last! Cocktails were delicious we had the Plum Negroni (winner of the night) and the Berry Sour! Ordered the $65 Banquet for 2 and loved every bit from starter to BBQ to dessert. Great atmosphere and dĆØcor, seats are comfortable but be prepared for lots of stairs, heat and noise. Waitresses were polite and well skilled but a little soft spoken so it was a little hard to hear them above the noise. All in all a great night!

Love it, great food and service. The restaurant looks beautiful 3 levels. The top one is a bar. We will be back!
Meagan Ciavarella
If you have to wait almost 2 hours and you haven't even got your main meal yet you need to fix your service! Staff seem to not know whats happening and don't know what to do. I wouldn't recommend this place.
Jai Horton
Wow! The service here was impeccable! Amazing...If you like being waited on for your every need then defiantly give this place a go! Food was absolutely amazing too :)

Nice hot pot, although it could have been a little spicier. The Kimchi was excellent!
Tanya Reid
Very good food, wonderful service. A little slow on drink order but the restaurant was busy. Celebrated a birthday, did not disappoint.

Amazing food amazing service! Thanks to Angela for looking after us on my birthday. Highly recommend.

Great staff and fantastic food

Another great place to eat at. Great staff and food

Upon arrival at the time of our booking, we were informed that our seats had been given away, as staff wanted to accommodate another booking that had shown up with extra people. Weā€™d travelled from the outer suburbs into the city for dinner but had to make our way back as every other place was booked out. We will never be back.

Surprisingly underwhelming experience given the review score is above 4 on Zomato. Came in with quite high expectation but its definitely one of the worst I have ever had. I was shocked because its actually hard to find bad Korean food these days especially in Sydney/Melbourne... I doubt this restaurant has any Korean customers because there are just too many way better Korean places in Melbourne. Service was good though
Stewart Wade
poor portion sizes for price, poor quality for price, and lowered standard overall compared to expected KBBQ experience

Came in, asked is BYO ok, answer was yes. Sat down with some bottles of soju to be told BYO is $12 per bottle. Equal to the price of buying soju in house. Why allow BYO at all? Alright fine, weā€™ll buy the house soju instead and have our drinks later.

Banchan comes out, 4 pieces of kimchi between 5 people. Refilled only when asked. Ask for water refills and the only refilled glass was the person who asked. Terrible service.

$365 set meal for 6 people is poorly portioned. ā€œAuthentic korean fried chicken with original korean sauceā€ is fried popcorn chicken with english mustard as a dipping sauce. Meat portions were ok at best. Quality was subpar for $200/kg meat.

Came here for korean bbq and we love the food very much.
The best korean bbq I ever had. Love the twice cooked pork belly and all bbq selection are delicious.
I also enjoy the black rice and seafood kimchi soup.
Service was good and attentive too.
Will come back for more!
Heidi Liang
Always here for the yoghurt soju,
The place you would go to for a more authentic and traditional Korean bbq with very nice ambient.
A good korean place for a date.
Linda
Pros: the pickled radish was a good amount of tangy and zest. More vegetables provided than other places. Ambience and service was exceptional.

Cons: there weren't many side dishes compared to other kbbq places.

3.5

Favourite place to go for Korean BBQ. Been here multiple times & the food is consistently good. Favourite dish is the spicy pork belly, marinade is really flavourful & the meat has great texture. Staffs are friendly too!
Chris Chan
Great service and wagyu is very good quality.
Sophiroth
My favourite Korean BBQ place! The meat quality is great, reasonably priced, and the BBQ comes with delicious sides (plenty, but not so many that you feel like you're wasting food). The cocktail selection is also really good, my fave is bongbong soju jug. Definitely one of the best places to go for dinner in Melbourne.
KitsuneAndFood šŸ¦Š
While pricey, Guhng is one of my favourite Korean BBQ places in Melbourne ever. It was one of the first restaurants I visited and I still enjoy it very much.
Melbourne Foodie
Had Korean BBQ- ordered a set. Nice food however the waiters do not cook the food for you. Very popular place and always busy.

Food: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Ambiance: 4/5

And they were so perfectly cooked by their friendly and attentive staffs. The side dishes are all so yummy too.Ā

We came in a big group of 9 and all of us enjoyed our time here.

It is on the pricey side but it is all worth it. Will definitely return when I am not so broke.

Went there on a Saturday night. Although it was packed, the staff managed to seat us (7 people) down. All the meats were fresh and amazing quality. We all enjoyed ourselves. Food came out quick. We will definitely be back!
Bea Marie Leandra
We got served this. The waiter knew it was inedible because he said it was too burnt to cut up but never offered to change it. Service was slow and he forgot 50% of our order. Maybe heā€™s a trainee but overall horrible experience. Never coming back here :(
Ece Keskin SĆ¼lĆ¼n
Iā€™ve been here a few times but today I realised that they renewed the menu. Today, we ordered Guhngā€™s premium set and really enjoyed everything except the last Type of meat (I canā€™t recall its name, something like King Gal-bi). King gal-bi was too chewy and even hard to swallow, none of us enjoyed it and thatā€™s why I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5. The team was so friendly and always took care of our BBQ to make sure cooking the meats perfectly.
Ai-Lin Chang
The wagyu here is unparalleled. Also shout out to chicken thigh fillet that was so perfectly cooked and tender that I almost shed a tear.Ā
Dined here with a friend who grew up and lived in Seoul for 30+ years and she completely agreed that Guhng was the real deal.Ā
It is expensive, however you completely get what you pay for. God bless.
Hunger Quest
I loved the interior, it felt a bit rustic and comfortable, I also liked the darker lighting. I ordered the lunch special bbq and I liked how it was a charcoal fire instead of gas. The meat was tender and they cook the meat for u
Daisy Duck
Authentic Korean bbq. Love their bbq set . There are beef , pork and chicken set to be choose. One of the best thing in this restaurant is that the staff can help you to cook the meat . You can just sit and enjoy the food. Nice and modern decoration. Staff there are really friendly and polite , which make me very happy to eat there. highly recommend if you feel like Korean bbq.
Makan2Melbourne
Guhng is one of the more high end korean restaurants. The price is more expensive than usual korean restaurants. Started off with the japchae. The portion was small, and it was oily. The ox tongue was a bit chewy, but the premium angus rib fillet was tender and flavourful. The yukhoe portion was huge, it was tasty, but too much, because of the raw beef, it can be overwhelming. Wouldnā€™t come back, there are a lot of better korean restaurants with lower price.
Nicola St John
Overrated Korean BBQ. What was once a great city find, has now well and truly past it's prime. While the decor is nice, the food was nothing special and I've had way more fun at cheaper Korean BBQ joints near the Queen Vic Market. If you want to dress up nice and sit with other fancy folk, then this place fits the bill - but if you're after delicious food, don't waste your money here.
Hon
The set up is very clean and nice with the charcoal bbq.
I was very excited to try their food as I was recommended to come.
We ordered the wagyu cuberoll 5+ which is expected for that quality
The king galbi taste very nice and well marinated
The seafood pancake was my fave, crispy!
We left with happy belly but the price is on higher side compared to other kbbq that offers wagyu.
Angela
Dined here the other night to celebrate our special day. The restaurant has sophisticated and calming atmosphere and the staffs were kind and attentive.
Itā€™s a shame that we hadnā€™t taken much photos of the food.

We ordered fried squid and seafood pancake, and the $95 premium beef set and spicy pork bulgogi.
Both squid and seafood pancake were really crispy. And there were fair amount of seafood in the pancake too.
I was pretty satisfied with the beef. Both cube roll and rib fillet were so tender and juicy, it feels as if the meat is melting in your mouth. (just like how Koreans describe good meat)
The spicy pork bulgogi was nice too, but we were too full to actually enjoy it as much as the beef.
We also ordered the mocktail called berry crush soda. I highly recommend it, such a lovely drink.

In addition, we brought our own cake. And I was expecting to be served just small plates and spoon on side with the cake in original box as all other places Iā€™d visited would. But they actually presented our cake on their plate. This is such a small thing that makes big difference. It made me feel much more comfortable about bringing outside food.
Crabapples For Lunch
Guhng used to be far better value for money than it is now. Over the years it has increased in price drastically, to the point where I find it very difficult to justify coming here instead of the multitude of other Korean BBQ places in Melbourne. We're talking about pretty generous set menus starting at $30+ per person, to the $70+ they're asking for now. The service and ambience here are nice, and the quality of food is good, but yea, not that good.

That said, we used to like aspects of the set menu such as the red rice they serve instead of white rice, as well as the beautifully plated desserts like the pannacotta and black sesame ice-cream inside a chocolate cylinder, which last we checked, they no longer serve.

Always wanted to go here because it looks fancy. Huge dining area from downstairs, ground level and to upper floors. We were seated in a private area. Really nice and ordered a few dishes from the a la carte, unfortunately I forgot to take photos of the food.
Jap chae dishes as smaller than expected. Kim Chi pancake was a little more eggy than flour. Itā€™s not a bad thing, Iā€™m just not use to it. fried chicken was beautifully crispy on the outside and shredded breast in the inside - one of my favourites. We also had the mushroom with glass noodle hot pot. The flavour of the soup base was mild. It was my least favourite dish.
We also ordered bbq set on pork and beef. They were good but much of the pork was very fatty. I didnā€™t enjoy some of the bbq because I was just eating fat but marinated in their sauce.

Service was good, after a few requests of more Kim Chi side dishes the waiters knew and kept refilling complimentary Kim Chi and water for us.

Overall, it wasnā€™t a perfect kbbq. But I enjoyed myself with some good authentic Korean dishes from the a la carte menu.
Linda
Sooo good. They get the balance of flavours totally right here. The flavours are authentic, understated but more-ish and flavoursome enough. Their lunchtime menu is great value and delicious also. Acoustics of this place makes it a lovely place to sit down to wine, dine and chat.

Beautiful layout to restaurant, food was amazing, consistent every time. Definitely would recommend booking before hand as it does get quite busy.

Both my girlfriend and I were very satisfied.
Especially they were so kind and funny. Also the food was really good.
I would recommend it who wants a special dayšŸ˜

The boys went here for a Friday lunch with an extended crew. We had about 8 people with us right before the lunch peak.Ā

Service was okay - staff were nice to us, however, there was a wait in getting our orders as we faced difficulty flagging a waiter.Ā

We were delighted at the price value of their lunch specials and the restaurant's atmosphere.

At the end of the day, we found the whole experience to be worthwhile and would recommend anyone in the area to stop by for an extended lunch.
Kitakai
Staff here are super polite and helpful, we were stoked that they were able to make room for us despite being booked out.

I appreciate good architecture and decor and the triple story restaurant itself is a sight to behold with it's blue stone walls and wooden fixtures and furnishings giving off a real antique-medievil feel.

The highlight of my dining experience at Guhng would have to the scallop salad with garlic dressing and asparagus. It was cooked to perfection and the garlic dressing was just enough so that I could still taste the freshness of the scallop. I don't think I've ever savoured a dish as much as that scallop! And complimented with the signature cocktail (which I've forgotten the name), a mixture of raspberry wine, gin and lime. Mmmm just deliscious.. I honestly don't think anything could beat this perfect combination starter, it's going to be hard!

The Angus beef was my favorite part of bbq cooked by our lovely waitress, it was soooo tender and so yum!

I've got mixed emotions about my chosen dessert, the matcha cheesecake. Flavor was on point. I love the taste of matcha, and the fact the cheesecake wasn't overly sweet due to the strength of the matcha, which in turn gave it a very powdery texture which was the only downside. Other than that, the flavor is still something to embrace!

Thank you so much for such a lovely experience.

Yummy korean bbq although on the pricier side. Kimchi soup had good flavour. Service and atmosphere was amazing, and the playlist was lovely, good vibes in there.

It was an amazing establishment! My friend and I decide to give it a try since we both crave for kbbq. And to be honest it wasn't a bad choice! We ordered some of their lunch set which comes with premium angus cube roll and bulgogi, rib fillet and kimchi stew. It was a perfect match you could tell it was amazing and delcious flavor. Overall, it was amazing experience and the good thing is that the prices are very affordable, be it kkbq! You can simply sit bacjk and relax! I would definitely recommend this spot!

I came here on a weekday for their lunch bbq set menu B which comes with some marinated pork belly, beef & chicken thigh.. the meat were all well marinated & full of flavour.. this bbq set also come with a number of side dishes similar to other Korean restaurant.. service here is pretty good and it is not too busy during lunch time.. I love the charcoal grill meat which makes it feels very authentic.. great value as we just pay $50 dollars for this set which are enough for 2..
Chin Jun
We went here to try their seafood hotpot. The seafood turn out to be not fresh. Prawn's texture were on the powdery side and a very strong seafood taste indicating that it's already caught for sometime. Portion for the seafood hotpot was alright otherwise.
Ambience is good with their asian fusion internal decor.
Mulan cocktail was not bad.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Been here a few times. Food is very consistent and beef quality is top notch. This is probably one of the best Korean BBQ in Melbourne. It is a little bit on the expensive side, but as expected when you get high quality meat.
Foodielover
Nicely decorated and spacious venue and staff is friendly and attentive. But the food is hit and miss for me. We order the chicken binibap, spicy pork bulgogi and hotpot beef. Pork is only luke warm but taste is ok. Nothing memorable. Once off experience

While looking for good kbbq places in CBD, I chanced upon Guhng & the zomato reviews made it out to be an amazing establishment! šŸ¤© Hence I decide to give it a shot today & steered away from the usual kbbq places. We ordered the Lunch Set A (58) which comes with angus rib fillet, premium angus cube roll & bulgogi and added on a kimchi stew (comes with free rice) for $8. It totaled up to be $58 between two people. My favourite was definitely the angus rib fillet šŸ„©, you could tell it was of a premium grade on first bite āœØ. While the portions seemed underwhelming initially, it turned out to be just right for two people šŸ˜‹. You definitely will not be 100% full, but you walk out with a satisfied meal! šŸ„° For the whole meal, the staff cooks the meat for you, so your role is simply to sit back and relax šŸ„³. The lunch prices are very affordable, be it kbbq or just a set meal, and I would definitely recommend swinging by when in the area!

Rating: 3.5

Organised a birthday dinner for my dad here and left with mixed feelings of the place. Decor and ambience was great, food was tasty and staff was nice. However, food selection was a let down as three of our first preferences had run out by 8:30pm. Was very disappointed at this, which ultimately meant we had to ask what was available and choose from there. Willing to give this place another shot though in the hopes for a better experience.

I spent really great time in here. premium beef set was super good. Beef texture was really soft! All staffs are very kind. I recommend this place!!!

Wow..... auawesome šŸ‘šŸ» this restaurant is clean and food is so delicious. Especially beef is so fresh and good. what ever you eat you are gonna be another level

What a awsome place! All the food was nice and all the staff aswell. We will come here later again for sure. Thanks for gave us good customer service.

Best Korean bbq place in Melbourne cbd for me so far. Bought the marinated set for $65 with angus beef, chicken, pork bulgogi and mushrooms; and one of the soju cocktails (tasted like candy, tipsy candy). The meat was cooked in front of us and was cooked perfectly. I usually don't like eating chicken but the chicken thigh was incredibly juicy and unffff. Dessert was the matcha cheescake and black sesame icecream, average but not great.
Definitely come for the bbq.

Foods were good with a reasonable price and the staffs were very nice!
I would love to come back to this place for a good dinner with my friends
Tip top service, beautiful ambiance and amazing quality food. Iā€™ve had my fair share of stone bowl bibimbapā€™s and this one has to be my favourite, absolutely delicious. Iā€™ll be back in the near future for kbbq.
Hungry Big Potato Bear
You cannot fault this place! Both food and service is fantastic! Their beef and pork meatsĀ are the freshest! They have really good fried chicken as well.

Being a vegetarian I had very few options to choose from. Given the restaurant was advertised as vegan/vegetarian friendly I was a bit disappointed with the number of options available. If you are used to having spicy food you might feel the food is a bit on the bland side. I ate a Mushroom bibimbap and a tofu based tapas. The bibimbap was a healthy, wholesome dish with amazing accompaniments. The tapas was not that great and this is strictly from a Indian consumer standpoint who is used to having a lot more flavorful dishes. The service was cordial and they helped me figure what I could(as a vegetarian) have. Although I would say it can be improved a lot(They forgot to serve me water during the whole course of the meal). Also one problem I had was that they accept a credit card only if the order is above 30 dollars which can be a bummer for the people who plan on eating light. So finally.. Will I as a vegetarian go to the restaurant again.. Maybe not.. But will definitely ask anyone who is into seafood and the like to try out the place.

Went here with a group of five later on a Friday night. The restaurant was pretty quiet, and we were pleasantly surprised by the prices, as I read many reviews about it being too expensive and not enough food. We got the Marinated BBQ set and then ordered the beef brisket, as well as 3 sides: Korean Fried Chicken, the Kimchi Pancake, and the Crispy Pork Belly. The food was delicious, and we ordered way more than necessary - we couldn't finish everything! Service was a bit slow to start with drinks, but it was a great night. Would definitely come again!
Kimungie
Place I would like to recommend to those who are new to korean food. The banquet menu is good and gives enough variety of food, I liked that banquet menus consisted of other dishes other than just bbq. Side dishes were good, and it definitely has more quality cuts of meat.
Jlimxo
The best korean bbq Iā€™ve ever had.
I eat korean bbq very often and the meat and quality of food here is extremely good. I canā€™t rave more about it. The price is also very reasonable and the service is great. Thank you team Guhng!
Vanessa
Food was really nice but a little overpriced. Service was not the best when we first got there and the restaurant wasnā€™t that busy. However the night did get better when one of their lovely staff started cooking our meats.

It was totally nice. especially the atmosphere is awesome. There have friendly staffs . I extremely had a great time in there. thanks every staffs. I would like to go there again ā™„ļø I really recommend this restaurant. there is the most delicious Korean restaurant in Melbourn. you havenā€™t tried at there, you should go there. I am sure you will be satisfied.

Only went there for lunch! Staff are friendly and the bossam was great! Wish the portion for Bossam was bigger though. We had the kimchi jiggae as well and was pretty good :) will come back another day for bbq and dinner!
Naveed Kazi
Food is great and yummy no doubt. But they really need to have staff that can speak English. The staff could hardly speak a word of English or understand it. This turned out bad as they tried to charge me double for the premium set when I asked for one set... this happened because there was some ā€œmiscommunicationā€ as I was told by the manageršŸ¤”šŸ™„.
Linna (Gluten Free)
overall: 3.5/5
gluten free options: 2/5
food taste: 4/5
ambience: 5/5
customer service: 4/5
pricing vs quality: 2.5/5

rather disappointing in terms of gluten free options and modifying dishes wasnā€™t possible. ended up with a mushroom bibimbap, which tasted quite nice but not something i would usually get (beef bibimbap can be made gluten free so...). the mushrooms were great. and if you ate it too quickly like me, the rice wonā€™t get heated up properly so donā€™t do that LOL it tasted like a legit bibimbap which is great, but i just wish it had been more filling or there had been more of everything considering its price. altogether not too bad.

customer service was great as was the ambience of the place. only stayed on the ground floor though so i donā€™t know what the lower level is like. my only problem was how limited the menu felt as someone who canā€™t eat certain foods :( would definitely recommend this place to people who enjoy Korean food though :)
Enigma
This review is for lunch service only. Their lunch menu offers good value for money, however they are sorely lacking attention to detail in many areas. I've been here over a dozen times and, at least half the time, something has been missing. For example, Sundubu Jjigae (spicy soft tofu stew with seadfood) - I've never received this with an egg yolk on top, and last time I ordered it also didn't have any seafood. I've had cold rice, and cold miso soup. They often forget to provide kimchi. If you're lucky they'll pour water into your glass (meanwhile the table next to you is being poured water regularly). English skills of service staff varies making it difficult to resolve issues.

On the plus side, it's a quiet environment for the CBD, and the food, when you get it correctly, offers good value for money. By all means go, just be ready to either try and resolve issues, or put up with whatever you end up getting.
Keenu
A place for a group dinner... itā€™s fun to watch staff cook your food on the table .., a pricey place but worth every cent ... when you walk out of the door you will smell like a bbq too ... banquets are recommended
Vanessa
My Korean friend took me here to try some cold noodle soup with pork belly on the BBQ. Really good combination of flavours and mixing hot and cold food is awesome šŸ˜Š The side dishes are generous and can be refilled if you ask. Sure, the price is a little more expensive compared to other Korean bbq restaurants... but the ambience here is great; warm and intimate.
Chris
it's the best korean BBQ restaurant I've ever visited so far in Melbourne(I think premium angus rib fillet and korean fried chicken are the bestšŸ’•šŸ’•)
I visited here with my family on my mother's birthday at the recommendation of my friends.
we could brighten up the day with the help of them and we became big fans of this placešŸ˜

Spectacular ambience, Guhng does everything right as one of Melbourneā€™s premier Korean establishments. Afraid that Guhng would be completed full on a Saturday night, I managed to get a booking through Zomato which was a surprise. Coming in I must admit the atmosphere is perfect for dates, groups of friends catching up or an excellent location to prepare before letting loose in the town.

ā€ØWe had a gungjung tteokbokki ( a dish that used to be reserved for Korean royalty, #KoreanFactDrop ) and a Kimchi jjigae. The tteokbokki was fantastic, great ratio of tteokbokki and meat and the thick sauce / broth goes fantastic with rice. Our visit was more of a pre-drink event so it was nice to have these fantastic dishes while downing my favourite Yakult Soju. Strong and they donā€™t skimp on the Soju.

Showstopper: Atmosphere & Ambience

Overall Grade: A-

I've been to this restaurant a week ago and this turned to my favourite Korean bbq restaurant. Because i could get well marinated King galbi, which is my fav. If you like sweet soy flavor, i'd recommend trying this. Also there were a variety of drinks not only beer and cocktail, but also Soju cocktail. Bongbong soju was awesome! I'll definitely go back and have barbeque.

Visited for lunch mid week. The absolute perfect place to warm up on a winters day! Down dark stairs into a traditional Korean set up. Staff were on point and helped with ensuring the pork belly and vegetables were barbecued to perfection. Great selection of sides. Pricey but justified. One of Melbourneā€™s upmarket Korean BBQ restaurants. šŸ‘

Beef bbq is good but not surprising. Wagyu is rare enough, i will give 4. Beef tongue is too thin to juicy. However, i come from Los Angeles - food in korea town there is paradise!!! maybe that s why i think ox tongue is not that good. they cooked for us because the table is too tiny during the lunch. Hot pot is very spicy. Side dish is just fair. It is not that many choice for lunch. I would like to rate 3.5 for this restaurant, worth to try one.
Kelly
If you enjoy sitting back and eating at kbbq I suggest you go to Guhng. Great service and great food minus the sides. I loved the pancake (best Iā€™ve had), the cheesey rice cakes were soooooo good. Do order a soft tofu jijae and the yoghurt and kiwi soju šŸ¤Ŗ Thank you to our waiter - I forgot your name... but he did all the cooking for us and we sat back like royalty

The Dear Luncher
Korean food choices are plentiful now in the CBD and The Dear Luncher has sampled just about every one of them. GuhngĀ isĀ probably the last, and it's not a stretch to suggest the best.

Starting off with the surrounds, a very appealing split level setupĀ -Ā similar to many of the establishments on McKillop street. The alure is strong and the sense of calm is noticeable when you sit down. Architecturally pleasing all round.Ā

Four lads for a luncheon ā€“ we needed four shared plates and these were ordered without fuss. 3 beasts (pork, chicken and beef) plus a large kimchi pancake. Specifically, the crispy pork belly, Korean Fried Chicken, stir-fried beef rib and the Korean style pancake with kimchi. All four dishes were first rate. The KFC was not overly fried as it sometimes can be in Korean restaurants. The pork belly was delectable, a bit of a sweet tang ā€“ the only problem was that there wasnā€™t enough of it between four large, sartorial lads. The beef rib was juicy, and the kimchi pancake was pull-apart soft and just etched with an ideal level of kimchi-goodness.

This is a real what you see is what you get type operation. All of the dishes appeared on the table as they are pictured on the Guhng website. Thatā€™s the trick folks, donā€™t overpromise and then under-sell, or however that saying goes.
Ā
With all the wines by the glass being $6 this made for quite the jolly old luncheon. The Dear Luncher piled away three glasses of the Pinot Gris and then stumbled his way back to the office whereafter he pretended to do work for the rest of the day. Again the lack of nuance permitted with Zomato ratings makes this a hard choice to rate. The Dear Luncher cannot provide a perfect score, but it was just a smidge over a 4 as well.
Melt in your mouth steak, excellent side dishes and service with a smile. Guhng is great for lunch, dinner or a family occasion. The menu has a great range of choices with prices to suit anyone's tastes or budget!!!

It was a lovely place with a great quality of nice mood and service. I definately recommend to my friends to have a great meal here. The BBQ was really nice.

Actually i used to avoid Korean barbeque restaurants bc when i went to one of them, they are usually too crowded to enjoy my meal comfortably. So i didn't expect so much, but the atmosphere of here was quite relaxed and luxurious than i expected. The best thing i liked the most is they offer not only main barbeque, but also various entrees, tapas and desserts. The well decorated desserts were outstanding. :)

Very expensive food and the food quality was not the best in comparison to the price they charged. I have had much better KBBQ and at a reasonably priced restaurant. The ambience was okay. The staff was inconsiderate despite knowing that many people were not getting the adequate space at our table even though the place was already booked for the time slot. In short, I am never coming back to this place. Wouldnā€™t recommend it unless you are ready to spend $50/person or more and get food that is below average in taste.
Eating Away Melbourne
Probably one of my favourite Korean BBQ in Melbourne. Came here for dinner with friends and it was quite nice. Very nice atmosphere, food and drinks are both lovely and very good dessert options as well!

Went with colleagues for Friday lunch without a booking unfortunately. Was told to wait to see if there was a table. The waiter checked with someone and went upstairs. After 10 mins, came back saying a table is ready. So we went up and got a beautiful table set up. But that floor only had one table occupied.

What they can do especially Friday lunch is to have more tables ready. Not everyone has 2 hour lunches. After us 3 more tables were set up since more people came.

We ordered from the lunch menu and prices are very good. Food took about 30 mins to arrive though.

Seem to have a unusual system for staff with certain staff doing one thing. For example the food came out for another table but it was placed on what looked like a bookshelf until another staff member came 5 mins later to serve the food on the table.

Having staff doing different things might be classy during dinner but for work lunches when people might need to be back to work soon, it isn't so great.

Also appears they don't have a food lift so staff are carrying food etc up and down a 4 level restaurant.

Great customer services. I booked in for 6 pm session but told my friends it was 8 pm. Found out when I was waiting for them to turn up. I spoke to the manager and she changed the booking for me for an 8:30 session. This was on Saturday, given this place is very busy on weekends I was really impressed. Food was great, we ordered a BBQ set and some other dishes. The meat was well marinated, great flavours and fresh. Loved the kimchi pancake, crispy and flavoursome. If I have to pick on something, that would be the waiter's (who served us) English wasn't very good. He at times had some difficulties in understanding us and forgot one order. But this wasn't anything major, didn't make our meal less enjoyable. Of course, some would argue this restaurant is on the pricey side, but the quality of food and ambience is definitely worth what you pay for.

Flawless meals, attentive service.
Eggs benedict and grilled salmon were both cooked to perfection.
Could not fault a single aspect of the dish.
All staff, including who I presume was the manager, were highly accommodating.
The only downfall of the dining experience was the long wait time, but this was easily overlooked by the exquisite quality of the meal.

Couldnā€™t fault this place. Typical Melbourne good style and quality..yummy. We dropped in For an early meal after the football. Wine list is also very good great share plates

The place looks great and the food was nice, dessert was amazing. But There wasnā€™t a great service which was a shame, very slow service, we had to call out to get their attention to get our orders or start the grill, our table wasnā€™t cleaned up properly before us. Mainly the grills not having a chimney/fan on top of them makes them very difficult , all the smoke goes in to our lungs and eyes. I would be happy to go back for the food and give the service another chance (Friday night is busy I understand) but the smoke would be the reason I wonā€™t go back.

Guhng Korean BBQ restaurant in CBD. I would like to say that I like the design of the whole restaurant, not like other Korean BBQ restaurant and whole environment give you the feeling as a fine dinning experience. Food was also nice but personally I think it is a bit expensive.

Itā€™s an okay kkbq place. Iā€™ve had better and a lot cheaper. This place is quiet overpriced and requires bookings.
The atmosphere is nice, better for intimate dinners rather than a large group.

The food was great however we had terrible service. We didnā€™t get our food till 1 hour later, and even though the staff made a mistake with our order, they got angry at us and became unhappy to serve us. Unfortunately we will not be returning here. Please train staff about customer service as that is also apart of the restaurant experience.

Korean restaurant with comfortable seating (which I found rare in the CBD). Nice atmosphere and good food. Lunch here is great because they offer a discounted price 10.9 for bibimbap with kimchi and miso soup (woohoo who doesn't like an economical tasty lunch?)!

Definitely the more pricier of the KBBQs in the area (compared to Wooga).Ā
However, the level of detail is definitely noticed. More flavoursome cuts, especially when they infuse the angus cube roll with more flavour by leaving a rosemary sprig on top. Service is attentive and they do chop and cook the meat for you as well.Ā

Stand out dish from the $65 banquet was the "Minced beef cutlet". My mate affectionately labelled it a deconstructed cheeseburger but with the amount of bizarre goodness in the starter dish; I'm considering going back just for that.Ā

Make a booking - it's definitely a treat yoself' kind of meal.Ā

Ordered:Ā
$65pp banquet:Ā
Starter: Green Mushroom roll, Minced beef cutletĀ
Charcoal BBQ: Premium angus beef roll (100g), Bulgogi (125g), + Your choice of pork belly/chickenĀ
Dessert: Your choice

This place was beyond perfection.

We had marinated korean bbq and kimchi pancake with fried chicken!

I love the atmosphere, friendly and quick service. The waiter was awesome and very kind šŸ˜ā˜ŗļø.

Thank you Ben for being so patient with us, kind and friendly!

P.s try the yoghurt soju! It is smooth and not too strong. Highly recommended!!!

5/5 šŸ˜

A really cool venue, love the decor and feel. One of the better Korean venues I have set foot into. Staff are fantastic and drinks selection is superb.

Yummy bbq and they definitely have my favourite japchae here! We ordered their combination bbq set which we get to choose 5 different meats we want plus their pork rib hot pot and a few other dishes to share among the 7 of us! All the food was really good and I really enjoy the hot pot a lot even though it was 35 degrees outside.

A really good experience. The restaurant had classy decor and a spacious layout. The prices are on the high end of the spectrum due to the location but the quality of the food makes up for it.

The service was attentive and friendly. I only wished that we could do more of the cooking ourselves!

We had the $65 banquet and we found it to be good value for our money. The quantity of the food was quite sufficient for two fully grown adult males. All the meats were well seasoned and extremely tender. The vegetables were also very fresh.

Perhaps one minor complaint is the small number of side dishes. Only 3 side dishes were served which is rather few compared to most other Korean restaurants.

I would happily come back again. That's saying something as the Melbourne CBD is full of options.

Guhng is a particularly elegant restaurant. The interior is dark but well lit, with copper extraction tubes hanging above each table and metal detail and decoration throughout. I donā€™t think I have been to a classier Korean BBQ joint.

We ordered a-la-carte (there is a set menu option) and our favourite was the Angus cube roll which was tender, flavourful and perfectly cooked. The other meats and vegetables we had cooked on the charcoal grill were also fantastic. If I went back Iā€™d skip the entrees (the beef tataki was unremarkable and so were the dumplings) but the kimchi pancake was great.

The service was attentive and professional but communication was a little lacking, for example when we arrived for our booking we were standing around for five or more minutes waiting for our table which was confusing as the place was mostly empty. They also did not check we were done ordering before removing the charcoal grill, which was not a problem for us, but we did feel a little bad making them set it up again for just one more dish.

Reasonably priced too, we paid about $55 per person for food so $65 for the basic set menu also seems like it would be good value for money.

Iā€™d be back for sure.

Can't love this place more.. One of my favourite korean bbq joint in Melbourne. Packed of flavour, fresh and well marinated korean meat for bbq. Also, very excellent service by their floor staffs. Will be back in a heart beat.
