Review Alfie's Wine + Grill - Melbourne

I love to try new places. I've found this trough the fork. When we read the reviews, got some good ones, thought we just gave it ago. The place is very cozy, it's quiet nice actually. The service was great too. The girl who was looking after our table was very attentive. We've ordered the prawns, snapper, bettroot salads and steak. The prawns, beetroot salads and snapper were so so. They all need more flavour. I've found the prawns and snapper were a little bit overcooked. The steak was ok. Good quality of meat. The sauce for the steak was a little bit too watery. Was a little bit disappointed to be honest. Hopefully they would make some improvements in the future for their menu

Thank you to Alf, Jeff and the rest of the staff at Alfie’s Wine & Grill for hosting the fabulous celebration following my book launch. It had a great vibe, delicious food and an excellent drinks menu, all adding to a truly memorable night 📚🥂🍾🍷

Well chosen, well priced wine list and exceptional food. Our table had 3 mains and none of us could agree which was best! The chicken was beautifully cooked and the croquettes were outstanding. Great atmosphere for a date or a larger group. Would highly recommend if you are in the area as this is well worth it!

food is very slow, entree portion is super small, octopus is over grilled (black), very slow service as only one waitress attended. Over cooked potato..

We went to Alfie's for a family birthday last night, and they were amazing. The food was fantastic! As we were a large group, we went with a set menu and a number of the items we were served were dishes I wouldn't normally opt for, but I was impressed by everything I had. In the end, I was glad we had the set menu as I would have missed out otherwise. As for the service: some of our family members were less than ideal patrons. They can be on the obnoxious side even when alcohol isn't involved, but after a couple of pre-dinner drinks, they were not easy to deal with. Despite our group making every element of the night difficult, the staff at Alfie's were infinitely patient and gracious. To all staff at Alfie's last night my sincere apologies and many, many thanks. Highly recommend!!

I had the eye fillet steak last night, and i do have to say it was quite wonderful. Remarkable tenderness, brilliant taste and an overall amazing experience enhanced by the charming service. In my opinion quite easily the best steak i have had in Carlton, i highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious dinner. Went in and menu and had just changed. Had our heart set on the chicken and rump and they were more than happy to provide us with the older mebu. Service was warm and accommodating. Excellent wine list. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Well worth the visit!

We had the shared plate which makes it easy without having to decide between the yummy choices. The house made bread were dense and fluffy, the oysters fresh and absolutely delicious with the champagne shallot vinaigrette.. the chicken with charred crispy skin was moist, the salad so fresh and the light dressing was just perfect. The burnt honey complimented the cheeses so well. All washed down with a great Tempranillo. A beautiful charming spot. Perfect for a romantic date or a night out with good friends. Great service... will definitely be back!!

I love to try new places. The place is very cute. The service was amazing. The girl who looked after our table was very attentive. However, a little but dissapointed with the food. The prawns and snapper were a little bit over cooked. They need to have more flavour. The beetroot salads was so so. The steak was ok .. good quality meat though. I’ve found the sauce of the steak was a little bit too watery. Hope they will make some improvements for the menu.

Service 2.5/5
Ambience 3.6/5
Food 3.4/5
Overall 3.5/5

The good: Duck confit. Ham croquette.
The bad: hassleback potatoes, risotto.
Most dishes didn’t hit the mark but weren’t terrible.
The duck was nice and crispy.

Service was variable - one waitress was very helpful, the other not so much.

Harley the chef is awesome! The meat is cooked better than Rockpool, honestly, and the octopus is sous-vide to perfection. Even the cabbage and brussel sprouts rocked my socks. 10/10

Great food Great atmosphere especially during a very cold winter. Wine list boasts some top shelf labels. No disappointments here. Highly recommened.

Great quality food. The sharing menu is great value and delicious. We were there on a quiet week night and felt relaxed in a welcomimg vibe. Would go back again.

Dined there with my work colleagues. I’ve never been before and the food was great! Reasonable price and great location. Definitely I’ll be back.

Cosy little wine bar with sophisticated food menu and impressive wine list. Between two we shared the ham hock croquettes, the anchovies, the cauliflower with blue cheese cream, the char grilled prawns and the octopus with njuda. The octopus and the cauliflower were standouts in particular 👌🏼

Four of us showed up on a cold Saturday night and Alfie's has a chilled dimly lit interior with lots of black tiles that create shimmer with the low lighting. Seating is comfortable on stools rather that chairs and the tables are ample for dining. Staff are unobtrusive and very accommodating, popping up at just the right time to assist. The menu isn't large but there is more than enough to choose from, with some very interesting items, and portion sizes are very good so you shouldn't go hungry afterwards! Standouts for us was the Angus rump, Bannockburn chicken, grilled cauliflower and ham hock croquettes. Did I mention it's dimly lit inside? Also great if you want a quiet night to enjoy company without all the noise of some restaurants. Certainly worth a try!
Alfie’s is a beautiful dining experience, right from the front door step where Alfie himself greets you and takes your coats, through to when you are seated in the wonderfully designed interior with these stunning tiles (seriously look at the tiles), cutout metal wraparound the bar... and then of course, the food is good!

Prices are reasonable for both drinks and food, especially considering the quality and taste. It is best to order a few dishes to share. The stand out was the Parmesan and porcini croquette. Phenomenal.

Thank you Alfie and we wish you all the best, we will be back later next time we visit Melbourne!

Choice wines, delicious bites and a genuinely chilled and social vibe (used to be a bread shop back in the day and definitely retains the interesting old world feel) .
A perfect Friday night unwinding spot 👌🏻

I love the vibe of Alfies! The decor is inviting and relaxing, and the food is delicious and full of flavour. Would highly recommend for dinner or even just a glass of wine and a nibble of the grazing plate :)

Meeting up with friends to talk about various work-related projects.
Alfie's was the perfect setting
Loved the decor: European chic -redolent of bars in Madrid or Paris - stylish and welcoming
Friendly staff who enjoyed talking with us about the food and extensive Australian and overseas wine options
We opted for a selection of tapas-style sharing plates and really enjoyed sampling a mix of tastes and textures. One of our group is vegetarian and great to have a variety of dishes available.
I particularly enjoyed the roast chicken and mushrooms and the croquettes
Looking forward to my next visit!

The decor, the staff, the host and food are awesome. Alph and the team have generated a real following on bayside. This is a lovely place for great food, brilliant wine list and lovely ambience. My wife loved the anchovies on sour dough (make sure you ask about the secret of the bread - its awesome) and our daughter gave the croquettes two thumbs up. The oysters are superb!

8 of us went for Sunday lunch today. Sat in the cosy courtyard. Tried lots of the menu. Service was attentive and friendly but unobtrusive, just right. Everything we tried was delightful - standouts were the croquettes, chargrilled cauliflower, quail, chicken and hasselback potatoes - mouth still watering! Then topped it off with chocolate tart and rhubard cheesecake - yum!! Looking forward to coming back!!
