Review Seven:am - Melbourne

Dave Weber
Update: new all day brunch +lunch menu with some really great dishes and good variety. Generous portions and friendly service. This may be a new favourite! Small but comfortable café with outdoor seating and courtyard at the back. There's an iPad out front to quickly order takeaway coffee too. (Photos below from old menu)

Went there for lunch as It has such high ratings, good reviews and close to work. Good coffee but food was just OK. I always have higher expectations when a restaurant/ cafe has more than 4 stars. Very friendly staff which is always a huge bonus
Anuj Luthra
A real good place for all day brekkie. The staff is really nice and accommodating. I had the omlette there and it was definitely Super. I'll be coming back here.
Don Pyke
The coffee was great. While that's always important Vegans was not fantastic on the menu. at 6 but this we had them for the week
Jane nguyen
Good coffee, nice porridge but the portion was too big for me, and can’t finish it
Alan King
Delicious breakfast, fast service and good coffee. Cashew butter smashed avocado!

Absolutely delicious !!! The food, the atmosphere, the decor and the staff were all immaculate and high quality. I highly recommend you ask for a toasted ham & cheese sandwich. Although it is not on the menu it is an exclusive favourite of mine. I also love, love, love the omelette! All of the flavours and juices come to getter and make a sensual dance in my mouth. A++

Coffee and tea was good but the service was slow - we waited nearly 40 mins for our meal and the cafe wasn't particularly busy. My meal was delicious (the emperor) but my husbands was extremely disappointing (corn and zucchini fritters) - it was absolutely tiny and completely devoid of any zucchini, and tasted more like spicy chickpea balls you'd order as an entree in an Indian restaurant. Not particularly recommend if you have a choice of places to eat.
Fiona Jones
Lovely food, delicious coffee and friendly service. Welcoming of kids which is always appreciated! Hope to come back one day and try other menu items.

Super lovely cafe in Port Melbourne. The coffee was delicious, as was the food! The staff were so friendly too, and accommodated our menu changes. Love that it's open super early in the morning, great for before work catch ups!

Waited for 30 mins, then they realised they didn’t put the order through. The whole cafe was full and I didn’t see one meal come out. No air con. No idea, Do yourself a fav and skip this one.

Thursday morning breakfast. Inside seating was full but cleared out after 9am. Staff were lovely & food was served quickly. Acai berry smoothie was huge. Hotcakes were good, lots of icecream but not a lot of berries.

Unfortunately I have to leave this review because I was so disappointed with my meal this morning. I ordered the Holly Eggs with shaved ham (so Eggs Benedict). It was one small English muffin cut in half, with two poached eggs and a small amount of ham underneath. Overall the dish was disappointing, but most disappointing was perhaps the ham. It was literally the ham you get out of the packet from Coles. In the Melbourne breakfast/brunch scene where Eggs Benedict can be a glorious mountain of beautiful shaved ham on thick sourdough toast and lovely hollandaise, this was more something you would expect from a country cafe. Definitely not worth $17. On a side note, the coffee, both white and black, is good.
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus<br/><br/>Came here for a quick Sunday brunch. Got the classic smashed avo and wasn't dissapointed. The dukka was a nice touch and added some good flavour. Great local cafe!

A great cafe that has been in Port Melbourne for a long time. This morning I had a soy chai latte with crumpets. The chai latte was delicious and warm made from chai leaves. The crumpets were lovely served with butter and jam. Free WiFi makes the place even better, plus a lot of seating for mothers groups, friends and for people working. See you again soon seven:am.

An early Sunday breakfast at seven:am, it was toasty warm inside! I had the yogurt panacotta with apple, figs and berries, it was delicious and not too sweet for breakfast either! We also had the fresh apple and ginger juices which were so refreshing!
TresHungry
Tasty food although I'd say it's a bit overpriced. The yoghurt pana cotta I had was delicious and a perfect option if you're after something light and refreshing on a warm day. Only complaint is that there was nowhere near enough granola. It was more like a little sprinkle for decoration. I wonder if it was because I came late in the afternoon and they were running low. I saw a photo of the same dish and they were much more generous with the granola there. <br/><br/>Other dishes on the table were the chicken salad, which was chosen because they had run out of their super bowl (?) salad. This salad looked fantastic though. The serving may seem deceivingly small but its definitely a filling dish. The Pulled Pork Benny was one if the two specials of the day. My dad couldn't stop raving about the hollandaise sauce. Lucky for him but unlucky for the table behind us as they ran out of the sauce soon after. <br/><br/>The service was generally friendly, but the food took a while to come despite it not being busy. All in all it was an OK brunch experience. Good but definitely not outstanding and unlikely to warrant a revisit.
Long Black With Cinnamon
Good coffee, good service and delicious food! Scrambled eggs are soft and delicious, cauliflower was crisp and spiced well, corn fritters delicious and bacon cooked to perfection!
Julycheee
This cute little cafe's menu looked quite promising. We went with El Scorcho and the corn fritters, plus some fries. As soon as the dishes arrived, my first thought was how tiny the portions were. I also noted that (although both dishes had avocado listed) El Scorcho had a generous serving of avocado while I found only a couple of tiny cubes in the corn fritters dish. Both dishes tasted nice. El Scorcho was appropriately hot, and the corn fritters were delicious, with a really good corn to batter ratio. At standard brunch prices, the two dishes were incredibly small (therefore overpriced). The corn fritters were screaming for a lot more of the salsa, feta etc. I would definitely not recommend the fries, which were pale to the point of being anaemic. They were well under fried, and the sogginess only got worse in the metal tin - bad choice to serve them like that. Overall I just can't get over how small the servings are here, which was disappointing because the food (except the fries) wasn't bad. The coffee also tasted watery. (They also serve Butterbing cookies here!)
Rob Barrett
Late Sat morning brekkie with the kids. Naturally they want to change everything & none of this was a problem for the lovely person serving us. The atmosphere is terrific & all 5 different dishes were great. Definitely recommend!

Love the relaxed feel of this cafe which is always busy and has an energetic feel.<br/><br/>Staff are fantastic and welcoming. Sometimes it can take a while to get your coffees on a busy day but that is to be expected. <br/><br/>The breakfasts are generous and tasty. The menu changes are fab! I hadn't been back for a while but when I went recently I noticed a bit of a revamp inside. Nice work!

Excellent food with good service. Good menu, good serving sizes and excellent location. Also does coconut milk which is a huge plus, some places are still just stuck on soy.
LL
Great spot for weekend breakfast or lunch. Friendly bunch for a nice brunch in a quaint little setting. Good prices. Brunch for under $20. There's even a little courtyard.
Giovanna Isabella
Great little cafe with options for the health conscious along with your norm brekkie and lunch options. Awesome brunch spot if you are peckish and need something to satisfy. Staff was very friendly and accomodating to ammending dishes. I ordered an avo smash sans bread, with sides of mushroom and spinach and was just the thing I needed after a lovely 14km run down Port Melbourne. My friend chose the acai bowl and it was served as most are, very pretty and instagram worthy. If you're in the neighbourhood would highly recommend.

A cafe thats called 7am, but doesnt open until 8? And when i arrive early at 7.55am i was greeted by a male with<br/><br/> "we're not open yet" <br/><br/>Nothing about "oh we're still setting up" or simmilar.<br/>Just "we're not open yet"<br/>What you want me to leave and come back in 5 minutes?<br/><br/>My reply "thats cool im meeting someone here at 8"<br/>With him staring at me blankly and me uncomfortably sitting down. <br/>And i hear the coffee building up steam to froth milk for the staff coffees!<br/><br/>Food was nothing special. <br/>Coffee was disguised as warm milk. 1/10<br/>Rudeness and arrogance doesnt get you no where.
Micky&Goose
Lovely cafe with a good atmosphere. We really enjoyed our food - bacon was crispy, plenty of avocado and the fritters were great. Seemed like there were minimal wait staff but service was good.

I was really disappointed  this morning.   Everything went pretty well; good coffee, nice atmosphere, good service.   Unfortunately we had to wait 40 minutes for our breakfast which I could have handled.   But...my breakfast of zucchini and corn fritters was a massive letdown.   Really small fritters containing no zucchini.   I mean zero.   I opened up each of the three spoon full sized fritters and found no evidence of zucchini.   The closest thing to green was a small piece of herb which may have been dried thyme.   I made it known to staff and they were good enough to deduct a coffee.   It wasn't so helpful telling me that it was grated in or that I couldn't taste it.   It was chickpea batter and corn and I left half an uneaten fritter on my plate to to illustrate my point.   Tasty enough but I wanted something light and this was akin to an onion bhaji entree and probably a bit smaller.    Melbourne has too many great cafes to feel the need for a second chance.

Lovely location, very close to the sea side. Warm and comfy premises. Quite good coffee and friendly enough staff. Food is great and well thought. The hollandaise sauce was superbly creamy. Not sure about the specialty coffees (a bit "unspecial") and, with food this good, you really want a slightly bigger serve. Happy to took an hour trip to go there and try.
CL
Came here on a Sunday, love the relaxed atmosphere and the deco. I ordered a scrambled eggs on toast with bacon , however the bacon is a little disappointing that I could tell the chef did not use a clean frying pan, bacon came out with slag. Overall experience was good.
Super T
Consistently good tasty food using quality produce. Cannot faulty & service is always friendly and food is served promptly. I had the chicken burger, on brioche bun with slaw which was very tasty. The coffee is always good, use 7seeds..the best!!! The best cafe in Port Melbourne by far!
Irishannie68
Great place for a early morning brekky just off the ferry. Lovely food, industrial feel decor. Brekky Board huge and beautiful. Yum! Great coffee especially after Tassie which has some amazing food but coffee is MelbourneI forte. Saturday morning early and it's busy.
Leslie Davis
Another delicious brunch at 7am. Emperor Eggs hits the spot after a late night. Delicious Beetroot relish elevates this from an ordinary eggy breakfast. <br/>
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Starting a new business in the midst of a global financial crisis does not seem like the wisest of ideas, but this is where Seven:am had its beginnings. The journey of cafe ownership has not been a smooth one for Jason Belcourt, with almost-inevitable mixed reviews at some stage of its life, to cafe break-ins and equipment breakdowns. Hanging in for the long haul has meant Seven:am has had the opportunity to learn and evolve with the needs and wants of both new and loyal customers, and it has now established itself as a Port Melbourne favourite. What better year for Seven:am to celebrate a milestone than its seventh year in operation?

Wow!!!! Amazing seasonal food.. Great menu with lots of variety. Peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Delicious coffee. Highly recommend the zucchini and corn fritters, the tomato relish was to die for. Definitely do yourself a favour and check out this delightful hiden treasure in Port Melbourne!!
Dylan Dunkley
Excellent food, didn't have eggs be edict but could put a few items together to make it. Hash brown tasted a little fishy but otherwise, good experience
Marie Searle
Great coffee and I meet friends here regularly for brunch. The emperor eggs are a favorite and their menu for brunch makes it hard to choose some days as so many yummy things. The staff are always friendly.

When a seedy night has presented in the morning after, it's seven:am at 1235 is what I needed to get the day going. ( check out my review of the Graham hotel)<br/><br/>In he door I almost pounced on the waiter with " mug of latte please and stat" to which it was delivered as per my request, it was heaven in a stick , if heaven can fit in a stick lol .<br/><br/>I ordered the Avo snack with Beetroot relish and poached eggs, Oh My Gosh !! Taste and fulfilment in one hit!!!! It's a must for Sunday mornings, ah any morning really...<br/><br/>What a great atmosphere, jars and jars of herbs in the wall representing organically, with clouds and raindrops overhead inside to enhance the organic feel of the place . <br/><br/>Food was great staff even better, it's a place you can drink eat flick through the news paper and a couple of hours have gone by easily .<br/><br/>Hope you enjoy it as I did , let me know if your there and what you ordered. <br/>
Sean
The perfect place for a hangover cure breakfast. With indoor and two outdoor dining options there are plenty of prime seats in this Bay Street favourite. The food is fresh, flavourful and delicious, served with minimal fuss and no pretension. Breakfast is served all day - hooray! I ordered The Emperor with bacon ( there is also a Salmon option). The addition of Beetroot and Orange relish to this version of Eggs Benedict is genius. I will be back.

Port Melbourne has got Aces in its deck other then a popular beach and photogenic piers. It's got Seven:AM.<br/><br/>Seven:AM Cafe is located on Bay St., the main thoroughfare in Port Melbourne. Flanked by fast food shops and beauty parlors, Seven:AM stands out from the generic eateries on the block. The single-front shop opens to alcove seating by the window- the beginning of a comfortable and attractive space. Exposed brick walls and wooden features, such as the high ceiling trestles, lend to an unfinished warehouse effect that is...
Darwin Tantra, TwoPaperPen
a small brunch cafe in Port Melbourne, just like the name (7AM), they are specialise in breakfast/brunch. <br/><br/>My favourite here is 'Emperor' kinda like benedict with beetroot and bagel!
A. Parker
cozy little shop. I had few take away coffee from here. Love their coffee. Friendly staffs! Haven't try their breakfast yet but on my must-try list!

Very good coffee, on the strong side. <br/>Food was just ok - poached egg was overcooked. Service was patchy, girl tried hard but to much to do for one person.<br/>Will be back for coffee, not sure if I would eat there again.
Fatcat-Skinnycat
Coffee was very good as was the service. The food however was underwhelming. French toast was bland with a hint of citrus which was really quite odd. It wasn't bad but it wasn't not bad either.
Elise Mac
First time here today and was very impressed. coffee was tasty, food was delicious and the service was outstanding! everyone in the cafe's meal, including mine, came out in record time & when paying my bill the waitress took off one coffee because she thought it took too long to come out! what a gem!
Jane Xiaoqing Xu
little cosy brunch place. love the relaxed decor. service is great. love the beetroot on toast "the emperor". Coffee is nice. just love the place. will definitely go next time.

Arrived just before closing on Melbourne Cup Day (being those customers), staff were more than happy to keep the kitchen open a little longer. Everyone was happy and kind, the food was delicious, and we even snagged ourselves a free muffin. 10/10 would bother them again!
Yvette.b
The food here is consistently on point. It also comes out quickly which if you're anything like me is always a big plus! Just one request: Please bring back the sweet chilli scrambled eggs guys! 👌🏻
Hello. Imnikki
It's sometimes easier to gauge a cafe's services by dining alone and the service here does not disappoint. Was served with a smile and made to feel welcome. Felt really taken care of and both coffee and scrambled egg was served promptly. Enjoyed my experience there immensely.
Cico Cheung
Ordered 2 breakfast with my friend. A pork sausage and a corn bead, each of us ordered a side hash brown which taste like frozen ones from Coles. The rest is not bad. Love the stir fry potato carrot with kale on the sausage dish!
AH
Good food and drinks and lovely customer service. The venue is small, but sitting outside on a nice day is so soothing and the perfect way to relax on a Sunday morning. Would come again if in the area.
Tricky
This is a regular favourite. Food is good an honest. Staff work really hard to please. Love the fact that they change the menu every year and evolve the menu. Eat here at least once a week.
Edible Melbourne
These guys have been around for a while; and for a good reason. The venue is quite small but very trendy. The menu has some real gems in it and evidently rated greatly locally. Inviting and warm, small and quirky. A good brunch experience for a laid back day when not feeling like traveling too much.

Seven:am is located in Bay Street, not far from the corner of Graham Street so finding the café wasn’t difficult and extremely accessible by public transport, driving home the fact that I really should have taken this journey sooner. Proudly emblazoned across the front window “Winner – Best Breakfast Restaurant in the 2011 Restaurant & Catering ‘Awards for Excellence'”, Seven:am was definitely a cosy, warm and inviting place to be.
Rob
Great food, very accommodating, there was a new girl (German, from Stuttgart) who was very new. She went out of her way to help us, and is 90% of the reason we'd come back. However what spoiled it, was the more experienced girl (blonde) working there, who went out of her way to belittle the new girl and point out her flaws in front of paying customers and management. <br/><br/>The managers need to look at this, it's a bad look and we won't be back as long as that girl works there.
Supssid
Great food!. Good atmosphere, great food, friendly staff, affordable pricing! Very happy! :)
Lobster
Great! For some reason this surprised me and I don't even know why. A lovely, crisp but cosy interior with enough space for comfort. And some bicycles hanging from a wall which is essential for a cafe to have at least one unnecessary decorative touch. The coffee is excellent.
Cat
The breakfast menu was short but interesting. I couldn’t go past MY favourite things, poached eggs and smoked salmon, and promptly ordered our favourite things, which was potato cakes with two poached eggs, salmon, rocket and a sprinkling of dukkah on the top. I always seem to be ordering poached eggs, basically because the one time Mr B and I tried making them at home, all we made instead was a whirlpool of stringy, spidery egg whites, and one very sodden yolk. Now we pay the professionals.
Fatboo
Good coffee and sincere food.

Very decent food, moderately priced too.

Wow coffee was super

One of our regulars - have changed menu recently / bring back the smashed avocado ! Great coffee - tried the almond milk & loved it

Oct 2016<br/>First time back for a while...terrible breakfast of fruit purée - still frozen! Apparently the 3 slices of banana and strawberry qualify this as a 'fresh fruit' dish! Way below par for other cafes offering similar menu item. Coffee and service was good 👍<br/><br/>Dec 2014<br/>Excellent all round - thanks seven:am!
Wikedwitchofthewest
Overpriced for what it is.. Didn't really enjoy my frittata. My friend enjoyed his poached eggs and salmon but the chai was a bit weak.
Penelope Berger
Just had a coffee here once & my friend & I were NOT impressed... Way too weak
Rosely
Smash 3.0 with Vegemite and poached eggs was delicious for those that love avocado. Service was good and place was busy with pretty cool decor. Worth a visit if in Port Melbourne area. Brekkie roll was a hit with the kiddies.

Great coffee, friendly service, Cajun chicken wrap is a must!! Is a standout in the area! Keep up the great work!

My mornings here are always good. Love the coffee, the service and the dishes. Really good experience and overall easy (which is what I need in the morning). Really love the smashed avo. Delicious.
Luvfood
Perfect. Delicious food and coffee.

Lovely relaxing cafe. I usually dwell in the cafes of Fitztroy/Northcote/Thornbury where I am a local but I have recently taken to heading out to a new suburb/café strip at least once a week and today I checked out Port Melbourne . Seven: am was an obvious choice to visit just for the urbanspoon reviews, and I must say I really enjoyed it. The coffee was YUM - just truly amazing!! It was a standout for me. Had the corn fritters with poached eggs - that was good too, though I might have let go off the turmeric for the fritters (and I say this though I am Indian ;-) But an enjoyable breakfast that didn't leave me feeling overstuffed. I also liked the service - I just wanted brekkie with a book, and the staff were lovely and attentive without being intrusive. The young waiter who served me was very sweet. Def on the list when I was a 'holiday' in my own city again but a break from the local area for a change ;D Thanks!!
Queen Of Tarts
Really enjoyed brekky here. Service was spot on and great food. Excellentl porridge. Happy to return

Went back again this week for lunch Food delicious good wholesome Staff excellent and with a genuine smile You deserve to do really well 7am Keep up the good work

THE Best Cafe on Bay Street. Seven:am offers THE best coffee, fresh muffins, breakfast menu and salads in Port Melbourne. Not a good choice if you're after takeaway as the wait can be long. Breakfast menu is interesting with a good range of choices. Highly recommend the catering - the service, the food and the choice is fantastic. <br/>Love love love seven:am.
Unckieherb
Sunday Breakfast. Dined here for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. The standard of food was well above the average Melbourne cafe. I stuck with the the tried and true order of bacon and eggs with a few sides and everything was lovely and had tremendous flavour. It was so refreshing to be served crisp bacon for once! Someone at my table ordered a duck sandwich which looked phenomenal, I'm looking forward to coming back to try it. Pity this gem isn't closer to my house...
Nixie
Hrm.... I had high hopes for seven am based on reviews I'd read. My husband and I had a sporting event to partake in at 1pm so we thought we'd have a nice big brunch before heading out.<br/><br/>We arrived at about 10am. Our order was taken about 15 minutes later. I ordered a banana porridge, and my husband the poached eggs. It took 40 minutes for our order to arrive. In the meantime we got rather full on yummy chocolate milkshakes. By the time the meals came, we were pretty full and slightly over it because we were then in a rush to finish and leave. We were very disappointed by the wait, and received no explanation.<br/><br/>The banana porridge was okay and very filling. I wouldn't mind trying something different on the menu, but I think I'll have trouble persuading my husband to return.
Discerning Diner
Best poached eggs ever! Great food, friendly and professional service. Can't wait to return and to try out some of the other items on the menu.
Melanie
Really nice menu choices, friendly staff and overall good vibe!

Breakfast Bummer. My pal and I always frequent Grey & Bliss, (side note: Grey & Bliss the BEST place I have been for breakfast in port melbourne and surroundings)... However after deciding to opt for a change we wandered around searching until we finally decided on the cute looking seven:am. <br/><br/>We always get the "Smash" at Grey & Bliss, which is similar to what we chose at seven:am - though Grey & Bliss do it like is should be done - which makes it downright wonderous. Aaaaanyway. We saw the menu on the window at seven:am and decided that this similar dish at seven:am (cant remember the name of it) would be the way to go. It had avocado, fetta cheese (apparently), vegemite and a thin crispy burnt piece of sourdough or rye bread... Oh... and "mint" which was... a mint leaf on top.... A very small one.<br/><br/>To begin.<br/><br/>- The toast was burnt and crisp,<br/>- The toast was bare with a scrape of butter, and LOADS of thick, pasty vegemite,<br/>- The amount of avocado in the mix on top of this burnt toast was absolutely sickening. It was thick, as if the avocados had been frozen, and it looked like a layer of dryness had formed over it,<br/>- The waitress was ill attentive, obnoxious, obviously a lot better than myself and my pal *end sarcasm*, non receptive the to comments I had about the meal (for which she had asked) and kind of argumentative when I clarifyied my disappointment with my meal I had barely managed to finish,<br/>- I had to order a side of fetta cheese as the amount of avocado to fetta ratio as it was served- was majorly in favor of avocado... I'd say bout 6:1<br/>- The overall price of the meal was 24.90 (mind you, I had an earl grey tea), which I could have spent at the supermarket and made 5 times over OR gone to Grey & Bliss and been satisfied with paying around $18 (which includes a coffee - the best coffee in Melbourne - mind you) for a meal five times the quality of what I paid for at seven:am<br/>- It did not seem to simply be a 'dud' or 'one off' as my pal's meal was presented the same. Also, resulting in the same disappointment.<br/>- The atmosphere was crisp and disgruntled like, with the seating awkward and uncomfortable <br/>- $24.90 .... Not impressed. Never again.

Great little cafe highly recommend the midnight swim . Will be back
Shelly
Great, mostly. One of my favourite cafes. Service is great, particularly if you get one of the waiters who've been there for some time. The coffee is good (not great) and the menu varied and tasty. They changed the menu a couple of times a year, although I have to admit it used to be better about a year ago (has the chef changed maybe?). Still good though, just not quite as good as it used to be. Could do with some more comfortable seats as well.
Jemy2010
Had brekky here the other day and it was ok. We liked it, but we didn't love it. I can't even remember what I had now, which is a bit disappointing. What I do remember is the awesome coffee and the very friendly staff and I'd love to come back and try something else from the menu.
Jack Mathers
Seven am served me for lunch today at it was fantastic, a delicious salmon and spinach bagel, alongside the ever delicious flat white made by the master hands of Jason, and served by gracious and ever joyful wait staff. The new cabinet displaying bread surrounded delights and a range of deserts is a great addition to the cafe.

After reading some of the reviews for Sevenam I was hesitant re the service. I found the service to be kind and friendly! The team here are doing a great job.
Esther
As a group of 5, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast at seven:am today. Food was scrumptious, fresh and a good change from the usual breakfasts. We had chilli eggs - absolute winner & smashed avocado with mint, feta & lemon on toast, delicious. Staff were friendly & attentive. Thanks!! We'll be back
MajorTom
Not bad - but not special. Seven:am is an okay place. Food is pretty standard for Melbourne, but nothing that stands out ... just the same. Coffee and tea were good, but again something that I can get everywhere.
Jason Belcourt
To Matt. In response to your review:<br/><br/>We apologised for the eggs being a little overdone, and the spinach undersized. We said that we would pass the feedback onto the chefs and that we thought it was out of character for someone to have such a terrible experience, as the other reviews were obviously written because people had had great experiences. We offered a discount on the bill and expressed regret for your experience, and asked for what exactly had failed to meet your expectations.<br/><br/>What more did we need to do to avoid such a demoralizing review? We serve literally hundreds of very, very happy customers who love what we do. We put our heart and soul into each dish, coffee and day, and in one chaotic moment, the cafe was full to the brim, and you brought everything we do down to the level of complete mediocrity. We don't think it's fair to paint such a negative picture of us, especially when you're meals were prepared twice to meet your requests. If you order your meal with no butter and gluten free, it is to be expected that it will be dry. <br/><br/>And the comment about the mushrooms being prepped the day before was to demonstrate that they were fresh. All cafes 'prep' dish elements in anticipation of busy weekends. We really do pride ourselves on delivering a great experience through good food and coffee, but it appears you got us on a rare occasion where things went slightly amiss. We are human. It does happen, which is why we encourage customer feedback. We deliver hand-made products to every single customer that walks through the door. We are sorry you had such a bad experience, but we feel your review is not fair, and unjustly harsh.
Matt Slutzkin
Disappointing. We came here after reading very positive reviews about it.<br/><br/>My wife and I both had poached eggs, which came completely overcooked. We sent them back, and had them re-done, which was then ok.<br/><br/>We both had a side of mushroom and spinach, and the mushrooms were dry (we were told when paying that the mushrooms had been prepped YESTERDAY), and the spinach serve, for $3, was shockingly small.<br/><br/>The only positive was that we received 10% off the bill as a result of the issues. Overall, not a fan and we won't return.

Best place in Bay St. Foods great and so is the coffee. I'm always bringing clients here
Reg
Out of my way. I live in Carlton but yesterday was the umpteenth time I've gone out of my way to get to this little cafe now. The coffee is sublime, the menu is full of all kinds of surprises (the Midnight Swim is magnificent!) and the warm, cosy environment makes me feel like I'm having a secret picnic in my grandmother's attic. And unlike other cafes in the area I'd feel too rude to mention by name, every time I walk through the door the staff make me feel like I'm being welcomed into their home. Even despite their sudden newfound popularity that keeps them on their toes! Keep up the good work, guys. You're making a lot of people happy :)

Good coffee. Bad service. Tried it twice but not giving it a third chance.

Unfortunately customer service lacking<br/>But coffee is good

Fun and friendly place. This is a great local cafe for breakfast and lunch. I really love the avocado smash with vegemite on toast. I now it sounds rank but is yum!<br/><br/>They serve coffee supreme which would have to be finest coffee types around, really smooth bodied. The coffee and food menu is very well priced.

The epitome if Sunday brunch ambience. Creative but not hangover inducing decor, relaxing, funk tunes, friendly but not over the top staff and amazing food with a point of difference. Who wants to go out for a breakfast you can cook at home? The best part is, this place knows not just what they do, but why they do it. As far as a complete dining experience goes, this is up there with the best hatted restaurants I've dined at! Amazing!
Damonwithadee
First timer. Great coffee, cool tunes and fake grass on the footpath, I'm coming back! Awesome food, too.
AJ
We Just Love It. The food is always awesome, atmosphere always great, coffee really really good. Great for breakfast every day!

My new week end home!. My husband and I just moved to the area and we tried a few places along Bay Street before discovering this one. So much wasted time! We loved it straight away. The waitress who saw us made us feel like guests, not customers, and made sure we got a table inside when one became available. I've asked this at other busy cafes before and they've always forgotten. Apparently they have a new menu, and I'll be going there as often as I can until I've tried everything on it! I think my husband is stuck on the Emporer though, a variation on the benedict. Very cosy place, and the best cappuccino I've had in this part of the city.
Allie
I had a great soy chocolate milkshake. Really friendly service and nice deco and atmosphere. I plan to make it my regular.
Katelyn Barry
BEST CAFE IN MELBOURNE!! The best coffee I've ever had and I've had a lot!! Small and cosy, wonderful, accomodating staff (especially the waitress Adelle) and great food with the ever improving menu!

Burnt Breakfast. Was so looking forward to visitung this cafe but was greatly disappointed. We arrived there Sunday morning, not many patrons there at the time. The service was very mediocre. Staffwas more interested in talking to each other behind the counter than giving customer service. The coffee was burnt and uninspiring. The worst though was that the baked eggs were burnt at the bottom and the burnt flavour permeated the entire dish. Could not see what was award-winning about this place. Had much better breakfat at other Melbourne venues

Average. This little cafe is decorated very nicely and seems to be quite popular. The back of their breakfast/lunch menu also tells us that they won the 2011 best breakfast award. Expectations of the coffee and food grew but sadly, just hit the mark. Coffee was slightly burnt, and the popular menu item Emperor was good, but failed to wow. Perhaps stronger and better combination of flavours were needed, perhaps just a bit more seasoning. The chili eggs had nothing chili about them at all - a few chopped capsicums does not ignite any sense of hotness or excitement. Service was excellent unfortunately with the abundance of good breakfast places around, we cannot find a reason to come back :(

Worth the 45min drive!!. Seven:am was recommended to me by a friend because they had such a great experience!!! I was not disappointed!! In fact, I have been back several times, and travelling 45mins from home is not a factor!<br/><br/>Atmosphere is relaxed and staff very friendly! The food is always fresh! Tea and coffee perfect! Every time I go, there is something different from the last time, from menu to minor decor changes. I can't wait to try something from their new seasonal menu!!

Best. cafe. ever. The coffee here is the best in Melbourne hands down. I have the emporer ALL the time, it's amazing, poached eggs on english muffins with bacon, beetroot relish, rocket and hollandaise. Must try! <br/>Great fit-out, friendly staff, over all favourite!

What a great coffee!. Very cool place, loving the upbeat vibe with good music, comfortable seating combined with good food. The Emperor breakfast appeared popular so I tried for myself on the weekend and was delighted! Cant wait to go back next weekend.

Seven:am. Found this neat little cafe in one of the most amazing and pleasantly forgotten little suburbs.<br/>You know that feeling you get when its the weekend and you know this is the reason you worked hard all week - you get that feeling while sipping on their coffee.<br/>Heart/soul and love in that place.

Lovely cosy spot. I've been here for an hour and a half on a weekday morning, peacefully studying at a big shared table and feeling no impetus to leave (although traffic has not been high enough to budge me from taking up a table that could seat five).<br/>I had the porridge with poached pear, which was great (still a bit toothy, which i prefer to the pureed mush you often get) and two excellent lattes. egg-based breakfasts smell and look good, and the music and staff are chilled out and friendly.<br/>Excellent find!

Little Gem. I have been to this little gem several times now and do not have a bad thing to say about anything, staff always friendly and welcoming, coffee superb and food that melts in your mouth! You MUST try the chicken wrap for lunch and the chilli eggs for breakfast.<br/>Perfect place to go by yourself or with friends, once you have tried it you will want to keep returning.
