The dumplings here always give a smile on my face. The lines can be awfully long, but def worth the wait.

Have been to this place so many times as they are our favourite dumpling restaurants. We love everything here. Dumplings are freshly made in house too. The wontons in peanut sauce were so delicious and creamy ! The Shanghai noodle was so flavouful!

I am always craving a good xiao long bao and the ones here don’t disappoint. I like coming here as the line is not as long. My go to is the dumplings and this stir fried noodle dish with mince pork
This is a great spot for lunch. A group of us shared a range of dumplings, but the highlights were the shanghai dumpling, and the panfried dumplings. So good, especially with the sauces. I personally like the mixture of chilli sauce and vinegar, and it seems to go perfectly with the dumplings. Great central spot, and for about five plates of dumplings amongst five people, it worked out to cost each person $12. Quality food and great price!
No frills, just amazing dumplings here. Love how they extended and open this branch as there is usually a que in the one in chinatown. Love their dumplings and xiao long bao and we keep coming back for more
I prefer to eat Chinese food on Lunch times. Not too strong flavor than other dishes and salty as well. This shop was good for everything to make me feel better to spend a day.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: another one of the shanghai st chains opened up on Russell and thank goodness it did because there is always such a long line.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I loved how simple the seating area is yet is comfortable and easy. The dumplings are made fresh and tastes good too. I loved the wontons with peanut sauce and I’d say it’s better than the little Bourke st ones. We always tried the pan fried dumplings that was good too.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: we ordered the mozzarella cheese with meat dumplings for the fun of it and I can’t say I tasted any cheese at all - at least it wasn’t horrendous.
🥇Lizzie rates overall: I will come back here time and time again now that they’ve opened another store!
Love this dumplings joint in the city. Always reliable, second location to the Chinatown location (which always has a one hour wait so we never go there) this place does consistently good dumplings.
We always go for a side of chili oil and peanut dumplings, a plate of pan fried pork dumplings and a plate of chicken and prawn dumplings. We also tried the noodles this time too which was in a lovely broth (:

Shanghai Street has always been my favourite spot for dumplings. They have the best dumplings in town with a very reasonable price. I always order fried chicken and prawn dumplings, Xiao Long Bao and fried mini buns. I like how they cut the prawns instead of mincing it with chicken hence you can feel the crunch from prawns. Xiao Long Bao are always juicy, sweet broth just pops in your mouth. Mini buns are a bit tricky to eat since the water can plash out from the bite. But it is worth the try.
I have been there customer from 8 years ago when they had only one small joint on little bourke street. Now they have many others in city it is great to see many people are supporting their brand just like me. The service here is getting better too. The lady manager at Russel street store is very nice and accommodate us well everytime we visit.
The best thing about ordering dumps in a soup is that it is essentially two meals for the price of one. You still get the glorious dumplings, but you also get a hearty broth with veggies and stuff (hot and sour) or a fat person's gym class (sweating from the hot chilli broth).
Shanghai Street's efforts when it comes to the dumps in a soup would have to be right up there with the best in town. Plenty of action, for around $10. Just look at the pic provided as part of this review, that's all the information you'll require.
They open at 5pm and we came before 5pm and they're very welcoming us. They allowed us to came in and sit first even before they ready. We ordered lobster with noodle, pipih with chinese donut and stir fry chinese broccoli and they were absolutely superb. All the food are very fresh and delicious. The restaurant is not that big though. Very recommended for fresh seafood.
I have just had my Christmas Eve dinner with my family there. Wonderful place! Fresh seafood and reasonable price. Highly recommend spring onions and ginger lobster with noodles. That’s the must try. Xo sauce Pipi is excellent too, you must order extra Chinese donuts, that is the soul of this dish. We also ordered the other 7 dishes and they are all fresh and tasty. One of the best cantonese seafood restaurants. Do not miss it.
This place re-opened as Chinese restaurant specialising in fresh seafood! The venue is quite small and cramped, and the front is filled with tanks full of love seafood. You can choose which seafoods you want from the tank and how you want them cooked.
Highly recommend their live snow crab and live lobster - we got the crab cooked in salt and pepper style and lobster with ginger and scallion with noodles. Both were super delicious! We also got a live fish steamed which was incredible.
Their XO pipis with Chinese doughnuts are also a must too (very similar to Ling Nan).
Service is super quick and no-fuss. Definitely come with a big group so you can try more dishes!

Amazing Chinese food, we had the Congee silky and "creamy" with pork and mushrooms mince.
The Pipis were outstanding, juicy and salty accompanied by Chinese doughnuts; crispy and crunchy.

Have been hanging out for a decent chilli mud crab for a few years now and after snooping around Chinatown for a couple of hours we found this absolute gem ! Apart from the best price in town the chilli sauce / gravy was to die for ! Great value in this busy small restaurant - only other dish we had was a Singapore noodle dish which was on the small size and less value. Asked to leave as soon as we had the last mouthful but this was expected as many others were waiting to get in ...byo is also a bonus. We had a lovely guy serving us but boss lady not overly friendly (but usually the norm). Will be back for another great feed of fresh seafood which is the speciality of this place - heaps of live seafood in the tanks out front to choose from.
Revisited a few weeks later and were not disappointed! Same meal - Singapore chilli crab and a separate dish of noodles - everything tasted better than our first visit ! Word of caution - make sure you view them weighing your fresh seafood - they also round up to nearest 100g then round up again when converting to pounds ....but in the case of mud crab current price was $29.95 per pound and is the best price to be found anywhere in CBD so still great value !
I genuinely have had a great experience here. Staff have been very accommodating and friendly. The food quality is great and cooked fresh.
