Review Ned's Bake - Melbourne

Feeds For Three
Enjoyed the toasted sandwich and pastries here, especially the almond croissant. Large variety of pastries that are great for taking away in the mornings. The chilli scramble was a bit average, although had a nice kick in it. They're open early in the morning and got plenty of seats.

đŸ© caramel custard & pistachio donut 🍯 salted caramel kouign amann 🍊 chocolate & orange danish đŸ«’ olive grissini đŸ„– fig grissini 🏠: @nedsbake 📍: South Yarra 📝: Ned’s bake is the place to go to when you’re looking for fresh loaves or bakeries. There’s a selection of 15 different French and Italian-style loaves, as well as a large and colourful display of pastries, tarts, buns and savoury items . ❀: Words cannot explain my love for their World Donut Day special last weekend, the Caramel Custard and Pistachio Donut. So good!! Creamy filling and a nutty pistachio topping 😍. The Salted Caramel Kouign Amann with dulce de leche filling was also SO GOOD đŸ„°â€”can I have more please 😂!!!

Great atmosphere, staff were lovely and great food all around. Would definitely come back here again when we are in the area. Many selection of bread and pastries

Coffee is not bad. Food is decent. It is worth going back to try other items. Went there during Christmas and they were selling some xmas specials, worth visiting.

Good place for breakfast as it opens early compared to other breakfast places, however coffee was served cold on a cold morning.

Ned’s Bake Cafe is an exceptional venue to visit on your trip to Melbourne or for your daily pastry & coffee run if you are a local. If you have the opportunity to meet the owner on your visit, you will be met with someone who treats you like family or a close friend not just another patron. He is engaging & appreciates every customer he meets with. The food is fresh & has amazing flavour. I have a new found love for this place & will definitely go out of my way to return when I travel to Melbourne in the future.

When I’m the area, I often park in the near by street, this place is always packed, and I love my breakfast and pastries, so decided to give this a shot. The eggs, mushroom, pulled pork on brioche was quite rich and filling, but also over priced for what it was, the French toast had too much fruit on it, which overwhelmed the actual French toast. Grabbed a chocolate croissant for breakfast the next day, it was delicious. Overall, the good tasted good, but I found that $98 for breakfast was steep for me. I’d like to try their breads next time, but not breakfast.

Given that it was a public holiday morning, I understand how busy it was at the cafe but I must say that the customer service was terrible beyond words. None of the staff members had a smile, they were rude and made me feel like I should not be there. At one point I felt like they were scolding me for something I did wrong. We sat at the outdoor table, and the staff was in such a rush, took our orders, came to ask the same questions to confirm our coffee orders with a very rushed attitude. Worse than that, when we went to pay at the cashier, the lady at the cashier was extremely rude. We purchased some pastries, cookies and bread to take home with, and as I was ordering she aggressively spoke to me like a child “I can’t hear you because it’s really loud here.” I had my mask on so I shouted my orders to her but she laughed at me. It was our wedding anniversary and traveled half an hour away to celebrate at the cafe but other than the bread we ate, nothing appealed to us. The coffee was mediocre, customer service was terrible, it’s very unfortunate that it’s become such a bitter experience for me. Marketing, Instagram, design and branding is absolutely stunning and welcoming, and the moment I stepped into the shop, the experience was only a disappointing one, almost abusing. The staff must be so overworked with not much support. The bread was amazing though.

One of the few bakeries which open really early. So many fantastic options even though it just opened! I love the sausage rolls and Nutella Cronut the most. Coffee wasn’t as great as other standalone coffee places but the pastries were pretty fresh and delicious.

Loves the gnocchi, cafe is great too and they have a big range of sweets like little cakes and cookies (I’m a big sweetheart) <br/>Great stuff <br/>Amazing atmosphere <br/>Always pumping

Went to this café for the first time with my grandma as I've walked past it a few times to work and thought It looked lovely! I was wrong. <br/>Not only could I not have a good conversation with my Grandma as the music was way too loud but the service was not polite nor helpful. <br/>I've had experiences in the past where I will dismiss the awful service and atmosphere, as the food makes up for ALL of it. This is absolutely NOT the case at Ned's Bake. Two words: cold, overpriced. <br/>Needless to say I wont be coming back here again nor would I suggest it.

Omg!!!!!! Man omg!!! That was the best egg in my life, what a shame that I didn't try that dish beforeeee, I'm going to cry

Neds is a fantastic breakfast/brunch spot in South Yarra. They have a huge selection of baked goodies to eat in or take away. Coffee is good, service is super friendly and it has a happy vibe to it all. I dare to you to step inside and not go home with a box full of treats.
Brunch Queen 👑
Go for the bread.<br/><br/>Be prepared to wait for a table as this place is in high demand for a city that loves brunch. I enjoyed some poached eggs on their beautiful bread and I would come here just to eat their bread! I did have food envy of my friend's frittata and will definitely be ordering that when I am in next. Quick service and lots of yummy baked treats to tempt you on your way out.

Will come back for:<br/>+ Apricot pastry<br/><br/>Stumbled across this place whilst on the way to a meeting and needing a coffee. The displays of pastry though not extensive looked great and certainly did not disappoint. I had the apricot pastry and it was great. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and well balanced with the sweet and tart apricot. This went really well with my coffee. Will definitely be back to try out some of the other bake offerings.

Found a hair in my orange juice, the waiter replaced it but the response was disappointing. Food is delicious but overpriced, level of customer service was disappointing.

Certainly, while DATS is the barista here:<br/><br/>There's nothing better than a "perfect fix" in the morning, right? <br/><br/>Then, honestly here's where to get serious coffee in South Yarra, if not of all Victoria.<br/><br/>As I'm pleased to say I visit almost every morning despite how far I travel.<br/><br/>Because unlike so many other coffee shops around/popping up everywhere.<br/><br/>With these coffee beans, ideal temperature applied, experience, the attentive service, result here is superb.<br/><br/>With his team that are always helpful and gracious.<br/><br/>Believe me it's the best shot for the serious coffee nerd.

$18 for a porridge is excessive to start with, but then when I was served a watery, tasteless porridge I was even more disappointed. I had heard great things about this cafe, but unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations.<br/>However, the pastries on the counter look amazing, so we purchased the almond croissant and donut holes to take home. The donut holes were old, dry and stale, but the croissant was delicious. Unfortunately not enough to make me return.

I will not beat around - this is a terrific place. Some excellent planning went into space utilisation and food options. It’s a busy place with an eclectic crowd. The atmosphere is relaxed as is the style. Somehow the show ponies have not managed to overtake the place, they are there but are not setting the style. Young and older business heavyweights (both male & female) are sitting next to smart young mothers with pushers, sharing space alongside active retirees with some of the best presented 20 to 40 Yo’s in town. <br/><br/>But the food? <br/>It’s exciting and appropriate to an International French Cafe style. I do brunch there about 3 or 4 times weekly, always the same. Poached eggs with bacon on sourdough toast, tomatoe sauce on the side. Bit pedestrian? Not! I am an expert on this dish and know all the spots and all the styles. Ned’s is so far ahead of the crowd it’s no contest. I think it’s the house sourdough toast which infuses the whole dish that does it, however the eggs are well sized and cooked to perfection. The warm plates help too. Don’t worry, I get at the pastries and coffee too. They are sublime. <br/><br/>Cafe eating, meeting and cruisin’ in South Yarra & Toorak - this is it for mine. <br/>Geoff Birtles

A very very busy restaurant filled with all wonderful things , love the ambience and love the food ,but service was kinda Ok!. Been there for a Sunday brunch ,was crowed but found the place pretty soon. Tried SOUFFLÉ and salmon frittata. Both were really tasty and have tried some of the sandwich to go there were just delicious and the coffee was just amazing . Would recommend for a yummy brunch and some coffee
Byron's Vanilla Slice Blog
I walked past Ned’s heading towards my lunch spot and was tempted. I stopped at Ned’s walking back to the car, and the family and I sat cozily on the busy street and devoured our spot of afternoon tea. Two coffees, a babycino, my vanilla slice and a vegan brownie for Mrs B totalled $21, so I estimated the fancy Mille-feuille slice to be somewhere in the $6/7 bracket. Pricey yes, but a high end Patisserie in a swanky neighbourhood normally command this price tag. That’s not to say that you always get value for money, but this time I most certainly did.

Interesting!! The rule of principle I practice when eating out is that: "If the food rates Just OKAY but the service is EXCELLENT I'll return over and over again." However, in opposite turn is when I begin to assess the worthiness of contributing financially to a non-deserving exercise.<br/><br/>After 4 visits (3 of those within the last month) my wife and I have not once experienced good basic customer service let alone the expected exceptional service one would appreciate.<br/><br/>Our last visit was early this week and am seriously contemplating on it being our last after the last fiasco. When we walked into the cafe the staffing levels appeared slightly overwhelmed and not one team member took the time to acknowledged us as they walked past. Although there were sit down diners occupying tables we were the only two customers standing at the counter waiting for service with the exception of one gentleman that walked in behind us.<br/><br/>After approximately 8 to 10 minutes one of the wait staff walked straight past us and asked the gent that was behind us if he'd like help. Give it that she wasn't aware of the sequence it would have been considerate to ask guests "who's first" ....... That kinda works and keeps everyone honest because this guy certainly wasn't and took her up on her offer to be served ahead of us.<br/><br/>At this point shit happens and surely the wait staff would turn to us next!! Not a chance and by this time 4 to 5 ppl were queuing at the counter and at which time she moved on to the next person and again bypassed us in the process. I then felt compelled to announce my presence and politely let her know we were next however, it was at this time she wanted to give us an explanation rather than just serve us therefore, instigating a response she now wasn't happy about.<br/><br/>I just told her we had been waiting for some time and in serving the other person before us was one matter but now she's about to move through a queue of customers.<br/><br/>The most shocking issue that actually occurred was the interaction with Ned (owner) himself. In the midst of the commotion Ned clearly heard me expressing my feedback to the wait staff and instead of offering to assist I received a death stare from him rather than the action of an owner who demonstrates good customer care. If looks could kill this guy certainly would have possessed the ability to achieve it.<br/><br/>I can play out about three different scenarios that he could have employed to rescued this situation but for some reason he garnered the perception I was asking for too much.<br/><br/>There are just too many wonderful places in S. Yarra and surrounding areas than to settle for substandard service. I can confidently say that Ned's off my list.

Came to this place after reading a review on broadsheet (listed among Melbournes best bakeries). Grabbed an almond lunette and sour cherry danish to take away. Both were lovely and worth the pop in visit! Only downside is this place is very busy on the weekend and it is apparent staff need to go on autopilot to cope (no time for pleasantries!)

Love love love this place! One my favourite locals. The staff are always so welcoming. And the food is always consistently amazing. They have a vast selection of savoury and sweet on display. And you can also order from the menu
Chloé Richards
Delicious bread and coffee but wouldn't eat in for breakfast again, ordered the beans and eggs and it was completely over cooked, the eggs were like rubber and I couldn't even eat them. Very disappointing when paying $22.

Dessert and coffee were delicious, the place is very nice and also busy in the morning. Great for breakfast, afternoon tea or just a cup of coffee.

Has a good reputation although my first experience wasn't the best, the food was so so. But! The venue is a good spot, maybe I should have just ordered a coffee instead?<br/>Friendly Staff so will try again.

This place is all marketing and not much of substance. The decor is great! The food... can’t really say the same. So my friends took stuff from the counter: pizzas, croissants with ham etc. It was horrible. The pizzas were miserable. The croissants, if I warm them up in my micro wave at home they would be better. Just terrible. The goat soufflĂ© I had was not bad though, very hot and difficult to eat but once cooler it was ok. The brownie looks very appealing but it’s not that good in reality... someone had mixed up the sugar measures maybe because the thing was absolutely not sweet, and I usually don’t like too sweet... I don’t think I’ll be going there again.

Such a popular brunch spot! I really enjoyed my experience at Ned’s Bake. I ordered an iced latte with almond milk which was lovely and the polenta and ham hock dish which came with poached eggs, salsa verde and spinach. A great combination of flavours and a hearty portion too. The pastries in the cabinet also looked amazing.

After hearing so much about this place, my interest was piqued to see what the talk was all about! <br/><br/>Meal: Lunch<br/><br/>Ordered: Salad of the day with chicken and coffees<br/><br/>Was a bit disappointed with my experience after hearing so much positive stuff about Neds - ordered the Salad of the day with WARM chicken. Ended up getting a pretty disappointing looking salad with COLD chicken. The mrs ordered a Soy dirty chai latte and ended up getting a normal chai. On top, the service was okay, nothing too flash. There is a lot of potential in this place, so willing to give them another shot!

Poor customer service from one of the staff. Walked in asking for table for 1. Got seated by this lovely waiter with gold earrings and zero smile. Then I sat down for 5 minutes and there's zero sign of someone giving me a menu or a glass+water bottle which every other tables had. Cool, maybe they're just busy. Smiled at one of the waitress at the counter and she realized I needed help. Some other lovely waitress came with a menu and water, and subsequently, came back and took my order. Throughout this time, that lovely gold earring waiter was walking around, did not glance at the tables around me at all an didn't give any chance for customers nearby to ask for help. Cool, he's cool. Yet the soup of the day was awfully salty and the veggies are so overly cooked and tasted weird. Alright, sad, bad lunch, let's go.<br/>Of course I expected no sign of people will be helping me to get the bill because they are busy when the restaurant is actually only half full. As I walked up the counter and pay, the lovely gold earring waiter was just there 'helping me'. No bill shown, only the pay pass machine, no eye contact, no smile, he was talking to someone else, and he didn't even check the machine, no thanks, no goodbye, still no eye contact. Cool, I could've just walked out without paying if he didn't see me at all. Am I expecting too much friendly customer service? Maybe. The three stars are only to the two friendly waitresses and the food I tried here before, not the soup.

Incredible service and food! So many amazing options to choose from made from the finest ingredients! Very friendly and helpful staff and would 100% go back! We can’t wait for our next visit

Seriously one of the best cafes in South Yarra - Ned’s (owned and managed by an eponymous owner) is where good food meets great customer service!
Ai
It’s such a hidden gem!!! Their pies and tarts are the best, it made me so happy just to stand in front of the show case and watch all the mouth watering bread and sweets. The reason why I didn’t give 5 stars though, is because I also had a pizza slice which had basil pesto, asparagus and cheese. It was super duper oily and pesto had a very brunt flavour, but bread was so soft!! Otherwise, everything was so good. Especially the pie. So crispy outside but so soft inside, so much butter flavour and custard made it perfect! Someone in the review mentioned about their bad customer service but I didn’t find them rude. The guy helped me was rather friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back!

Do you ever dream of baguettes from your favourite bakery in France? Or that first slice of eggplant pizza you tasted in Italy? Ned Radojcic did. In fact, he dreamed everything about bread. So much so that he sought his favourite bakers in the world, brought them to Australia and opened the aptly named, Ned’s Bake.

Nothing smells better than freshly made bread, and you can find a variety here at Ned’s! Coffee is great also. Unfortunately the staff aren’t too friendly. We also tried the breakfast food once, it’s delicious but a bit pricey for what you get.

I was at Ned’s on Sunday. Looks like a buzzy place. <br/>Unfortunately the experience was far from glowing. <br/>I was placed in a spot that was a problem for any patron. Right next to serveryfor the staff. After having been knocked repeatedly from the staff needing to access the area I complained and was told that I sh have moved my seat around the table. <br/>I felt that I deserved to have my coffee refunded for the awful experience. The manager grudgingly agreed . When I left I received a bill and from there I decided never again at Ned’s.

My wife and I love going to Ned’s Bake for a casual lunch on the weekend. The food is great (my favourite is Buratta salad), and the bread is always superb.<br/>Today we enjoyed the Lamb minestrone soup. <br/>The staff are attentive, capable and warm - and nothing is too much trouble for them; especially Lucretzia and Eliza 😊<br/>

This place has the best Ciabatta I have ever tasted, beautifully chewy and flavourful i only had a slice of it with my meal but will be back soon for a loaf. I had the crab pasta which was gobsmackingly small for a main I did wonder if I’d ordered an entree but sadly no. It was delicious but overpriced for the serving size. The rocket salad was great how could you go wrong? My friend had the chicken which was a little over cooked and not particularly tasty. Overall a great place for bread and super friendly service.

If I could give Neds Bake 2.5 stars I probably would as it really was an experience of two halves.<br/><br/>The service upon entering was very poor, lots of staff chattering behind the counter and some floating the only half full cafe but no one came to greet or seat myself and my toddler. Once I did manage to find a staff member to seat us, she was pleasant but elusive and scatty. When I finally managed to get a menu, I ordered a chicken sandwich and Italian onion soup. The sandwich came within moments but the soup came a good 15 minutes later by which time the sandwich was well and truly done. The sandwich itself was really nice, lovely fresh bread and nicely seasoned chicken, herbs and mayo - a big thumbs up from my little one. However the soup wasn't very nice at all and I really couldn't stomach more than a few spoonfuls. To begin with the bowl was overwhelmingly big and consisted of a very dated, over sweetened and under seasoned onion soup dotted with pieces of blackened (aka: burnt and tough..) prosciutto and offputtingly thick sliced onions.<br/><br/>I feel like I would like to review this cafe again if I was in for a coffee and cake as the sweets and pastries did look beautiful. However, as several other reviews have mentioned , perhaps lunch is not their forte and service definitely left a lot to be desired.
Worldnomad987
This place has turned into one of my favourites. I even go back both weekend days to pick out some of their goodies on offer. I only ever get takeaway so can only comment on the fresh bread and pastries they have but they have always been super delicious!!! Do yourself a favour and spoil yourself and family with the tasty creations from Ned’s.
Queen Of Food
Upon walking in the cafe the smell of fresh bread and freshly baked cakes fills the air. Excited we sat down to have breakfast. I ordered the avocado bruschetta with a side of mushrooms while my colleague had the capellini beans and chorizo. The food was good servings but lacked seasoning and I thought just average. I think their cakes are their forte and the food menu was an afterthought.

Parked near by Ned's bake on Sunday late afternoon. Inside seats were full and busy even nearly closing time.<br/>Unlike other reviewer's comments, they welcomed us to seat and let us know kitchen was closed for the day. All staff were friendly, polite and attentive customer service.<br/>I'm quite surprised the Zomato score is only 3.<br/>Baguette and croissant were beautifully baked, fresh and crispy. It was way better than the bakery in Fitzroy called for world's best.<br/>Quality ingredients from Italian supplier displayed over glass wall behind right side corner counter.<br/>Strong Latte had good flavour and hot.<br/>We'll definitely come back👍<br/>
Julia Stehli
Coffee is good, but service is a terrible let down. I wouldn’t mind too much if they were only slow, but on top they are just super rude and snappy, subpar to most places in Melbourne. A pity since the place had a lot of potential.

Had two great coffees here with friends, but the service felt a little confused at times. I'm not sure whether it was because we were sitting outside, but we kept getting asked if we wanted to order food even though we'd said a few times that we were just getting coffee. We didn't get any water, even though we were there for over 1.5 hours. We didn't eat food, but the pizza on top of the display cabinet looked great (though it was mouth height, so perhaps they could cover it or something...).
FoodieGuru_770
Food was average. The atmosphere was nice but the salad was drowned in tahini and I had a sore stomach after. I wish they were a little more tolerant to make a plane salad or grilled fish. Just seems little heavy in the dressing or use of dairy. <br/><br/>I like to vibe and the waitress was friendly.
Ana
Ned and his team are amazing. Service, coffee and brunch menu, everything is perfect. I am addicted to the multigrain bread and I am so happy to see them almost every day. Go for it
Jessica Crisp
Fantastic service and tasty food for brekkie. Delicious sourdough bread, poached eggs cooked to perfection. Friends got the avo bruschetta and spanner crab and rated very highly.<br/>Very friendly staff with great memory for orders. <br/>We went on the ANZAC day public holiday and the kitchen was running a little behind (not by much) but made up for it with a free dessert pastry while we waited!<br/>Will be going back to try more of the menu!

I really enjoyed this Italian cafe/bakery! They make the pastries and bread fresh in house everyday, producing an amazing smell as you walk past in the mornings! I went with a friend Saturday morning around 10am and there was a queue out the door! However it moved quickly and we were seated within 5 minutes. I ordered a cappuccino with almond milk, an option I am sometimes sceptical about as too often my almond milk has been burned, however this coffee was perfect! I ordered a simple toast (whole meal seeded) with jam. The toast was very fresh and the jam we had was delicious. I believe it was some sort of honey marmalade. They offered samples of fresh bread on the counter you could go up and try, helping us to decide which bread to have which was a great idea! From glancing at the other breakfast food, it was pricey for what it was, maybe why it attracts a slightly older crowd. If I come here again I’ll probably stick to a pastry or the toast with jam. The service was quick and friendly, the atmosphere was great and the decor was clean, sophisticated and warm.
Piero Pellegrini
Asked for a croissant sliced in half with butter and marmalade on the side. The Italian waitress says, ‘ no sorry we are too busy to do that today, I ll give you a knife and you can do that yourself’.<br/>Great place and great food, staff need serious training.
Hello. Imnikki
A 3.5 for Ned. The bread was indeed the star, considering that it prides itself on its freshly baked bread and pastries. It was no wonder too that the next best thing after the bread was the scrumptious fig tart.<br/><br/>However when all components came together, the meal wasn't too memorable. The execution of the mains couldn't be fault but the flavours were average. $20 for the bacon sandwich with a side salad was quite dear.<br/><br/>Our coffees arrived at our table within a minute of us ordering it, causing us to have some doubts but luckily they turned out fine.<br/><br/>We were served by a cheery and helpful waitress, and while the atmosphere was relaxed, it lacked warmth.

Ned’s Bake, Toorak road, South Yarra. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, so no doubt I loved a gourmet tomato and cheese toasty with some blackberry and cream danish... win win all the way! Great way to start the day. Lovely place with amazing varieties of bread and danishes! Lots more to try for the next time. And oh I almost forgot - Happy Valentine’s Day all of you - may you have an year filled with love and lots of lovely food 😊😊 @nedsbake #southyarra #brekkie #ilovebreakfast #breakfastismyfavoritemeal #danish #croissants #loveforbread #vegbourne #vegetarianfoodie #foodielife #loveexploring #igersmelbourne #melbourneblogger #toorakroad #instablogger #foodblogger #vegetarianlife

Delicious place to grab a pastry and coffee on Toorak road. Love the relaxed atmosphere, welcoming staff and coffee is good. Will definitely come back.
Nastie Pastie
We were seated quickly as they weren’t that busy, and ordered a coffee which didn’t take long to get. The coffee, although nice, just didn’t have the flavor of good coffee for me to order another, so my rating for coffee is 2.<br/><br/>We ordered a avocado bruschetta and and the smoked mozzarella toastie. Both dishes were enjoyable and well presented but not something I would order again.<br/><br/>Because of the flavourless coffee I won’t be rushing back.
Itsmissprincess
Lovely food and amazing pizza! Overall great staff although one of the staff stands out as being very rude to customers and appears very miserable.
Mrs Mark
Came here for a mid week breakfast. Service was incredibly slow which might be the reason my coffee came out cold. Not rushing back anytime soon

Rude owner. Coffee Good. Bread Good. <br/><br/>My host walked in off the street (first timers here) and was directed to a table by staff after informing them there would be a good 8 to 10 people revolving in and out for most of the day. Decor is spartan, loaves in cages hanging off the wall (cool), bakery in the back, big glass display chock-a-block with food, fairly busy. Table Service is slooowwwww. <br/><br/>After a good twenty minutes, I walk to the counter to order. Let's start with Coffees (good), Specialty Bread (good), Avocado Bruschetta (very good), OJ's (it's O.J.), all good thus far. After a period of not being attended to, nor being able to grab a waiter’s attention, I walk to the coffee bar, it's unattended, I grab a carafe of water and a clean glass, which apparently caused a stir, as the poor tattooed waiter-fellow copped a spray in a certain Southeastern European language that I have a handle on. Hey, still all good. Long...busy...day, right? The aforementioned spray-er, who turns out to be the owner, is casually complaining about customers, to other customers, in front of other customers...wait a minute; staff are frowning ,i.e. look miserable (except the long black haired girl who was smiling all the way), more complaints about customers wafting by, hello... oh don't worry, back to the counter to grab a cake, ahh yes, the Hospitality-Equivalent of the Butterfly Effect. Boss not happy. Staff NOT happy. <br/><br/>Having a good ten years’ experience in the industry, I get it. So, what the heck, I take the initiative to make someone’s day; I approach the owner and say..<br/><br/>"Your coffee and cakes are lovely thank you"<br/><br/>response<br/><br/>"you take up my best table, for five hours.."<br/><br/>response<br/><br/>"Oh..that's where your staff put us, they were told we would be here for most of the day"<br/><br/>response<br/><br/>"You take up my best real estate, it's my best table, and you could have picked any table in the f@#king house"<br/><br/>reponse<br/><br/>Hvala puno<br/><br/>So Ned, 9 individuals are now in the throes of the Disgusted-Customer equivalent of the Butterfly Effect. How dare you speak to me in that way! The others thoughts, specifically? Well, Toorak road is very long, plenty of other former Aircraft Engineers turned cook, to be sure

the best breakfasts, excellent customer service. I love this place. Its meals and attention make my day really very nice. I recommend so much this Bakery

Busy place and i thought the bread looks awesome.<br/>Coffee was great.<br/>All of the menu was worse than i expected.<br/>No tasty and high price<br/>Prefer to have only drink and dessert.<br/>

Coffee and food are great however one particular wait staff ruins my visit every time. His arrogance and unpleasant demeanor are uncomfortable.....if other staff members have to apologize for your poor behavior then it's a bit of a problem.......Cringe.<br/><br/>"Shorty's got an attitude"
Jenny Hetherington
As a local I regularly get take away coffees and pastries from there but the take away process stresses to out, people are ordering and queuing from beside the till and from across the pastry counter, there is no clear queue so they never know who has waited the longest esp when very busy. Once you've ordered, there is no where to stand, you're either in the way of staff trying to serve, blocking the front door or standing right next to a table where people are trying to eat. This really is a big negative for me and needs reviewing. <br/>Layout/design 4/10<br/>The pastries, bread and coffees all get 10/10 <br/>Staff are often rude and unfriendly, the one exception is possibly the owner who always says hello to everyone. Not a great local 'friendly' vibe <br/>

Fantastic bread, great tasting pasta - quite a quirky mix of bakery and restaurant. Really, it only falls short in that service is slow, prices are expensive and portion sizes are small. But quality is great.

Look, sorely disappointing. Chaotic atmosphere and no structure. My life partner and I walked in the get a coffee and savoury. Not only did it take a matter of staff members to acknowledge our presence but they were rude and short with us. Not a good start. <br/>We took a seat outside to enjoy the morning sun and spring-u vibes-u. The table was wet with the rain and riddled with leaves. This wasn’t wiped over for our sanitary convenience at any point.<br/>We finished our coffee (which, BTW, was actually okay albeit other, more ruthless reviews) and decided to soak up a prosecco before the midday. I ventured inside and again overlooked by the many staff members that seem to just be running about like headless chooks. So chaotic. I was eventually served by a rude waiter who barely lifted an eye to me. <br/>Prosecco was served and table was not cleared of our DIRTY dishes. Prosecco was the only plus at this establishment. I would not advise going here.

Today was the 3rd time I've been to Ned's Bake since it opened and I think it will be the last... I've read the "glowing" reviews both in the media and on the customer review sites and also have had numerous friends rave about it. But I just can't share their enthusiasm, no matter how much I desperately want to, as the area seriously needs a good quality cafe/bakery.<br/><br/>The layout for a new fitout is so limited and squashy - customers are literally sitting on top of each other. There is no sense of privacy or relaxation. The counter and kitchen area is out of proportion with the seating area and everything is so dark inside. I totally agree with another reviewer in that the pastries and food laid out on top of the counter being breathed/coughed upon by all and sundry has to contravene food handling regulations.<br/><br/>I called twice beforehand to make a reservation for lunch and the landline goes through to a mobile number and my messages not returned. Today we had a party of 3 and ordered 3 ready-made rolls but they were ridiculously overpriced - costing $40 in total, no coffees/drinks. My dad's baguette was rock hard but my ciabatta roll was fine.<br/><br/>The staff are amicable enough but hassled as it feels like a very chaotic space to work in. I would label this place under the title "The Emperor's New Clothes" or actually "Her Majesty's New Clothes" as it used to be the site of Her Majesty's Hotel many years ago...

Really disappointed. Ordered coffee and spent about $20.00- 2 of the 3 were wrong and all were luke warm. Went back to fix the order and for the second time both coffees were even colder. The best part about my visit was the warmth the cafe offered from the bitter Melbourne weather.

Overall: Great hot chocolate! Can't wait to return to try new things and see how consistent it is.<br/>Food: Prosciutto pizza (from menu) was lovely, generous amount of toppings, but a tad over priced. Chocolate fold and nutella folds were nice, would've been better warmed up. Cinnamon bombolinis were fantastic. The people next to us had the meat/cheese platter, which was huge.<br/>Drink: Hot chocolate was excellent. But small.<br/>Service: No issues. Tiny tables if you order several items.

Overpriced, small portions and worst of all they are really very average. Disappointed.<br/>Waited over 30 minutes for our food and when we asked, there was no apology and the waitress simply brushed us off and said they will be here soon. <br/>There are a couple of really friendly and helpful waitresses there though. And decent coffee. <br/>Most likely not going back :( even though I do like the ambience a lot.

I'd give this a zero if I could. Serious attitude problem from all staff members. Pathetic excuse for a cafe when we have so many lovely cafes in Melbourne. Avoid!
June Days
TERRIBLE service and experience here. Sat down and ordered a chai late immediately. Looked at the menu and the meals are confusing, not one thing stood out as appetizing. Everything probably tasted fine, but nothing is just a simple meal. Waitress didn't recomend anything on request. I just ordered toast in the end. <br/>My chai late took a good 10-15 minutes to come, and it was luke warm which means it was probably sitting there for a while. Toast didn't come for at least 30 minutes, so we got fed up and went to pay the bill. By the time we got to get the bill, the toast was ready so we got it takeaway. It was extremely meh. <br/>What was really annoying was the whole time our waitress was busy talking to her boyfriend and was very rude and disinterested in us. <br/>If you go I suggest you don't order a cooked meal. All the food at the counter looks delicious and is probably fine.

Delicious bakery & patisseries... one of the best bread makers in Melbourne! The bread is so fresh & good! Not a big fan of pistachio croissant but ham & cheese was ohhhhhh so good! 😋 đŸ€€... but! The food was average.

Fantastic baguettes and selection of pastries. Great service and atmosphere. Would definitely come again but unfortunately I don't live in Melbourne.

Stuck In Transit
Located on the busy Toorak Road, this new-ish bakery/cafe has made quite the impact on locals since opening their doors just a short while ago. We have walked past far too many times, so thought we would finally pop in and see what this bustling bakery had to offer. . ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE

I love my local bakery. Haven't sampled much of the menu, put the bread is the best south of the river! All the staff are super nice too. Keep on doing what you're doing guys!

Amazing pastries and charcuterie boards. I go here most Saturdays just for the croissants. Ned is lovely and the organised chaos of people inside is reminiscent of Italy. So warm and inviting. Love love love.

Welcome Ned's Bake! Although there are plenty of good pastry and bakery in this neighbourhood there is always room for one like Ned's. Great trendy fit out with friendly staff. It is on par with trivoli bakery but no where near as busy. <br/>Check it out!

Incredible cafe, large and the staff are great! A fresh twist on the cafe classic pastries, a must visit for all. Great to see the bakers hard at work in the centre of it all.

Lovely environment and nice bakery! But the breakfast menu seems a bit ordinary. I was expecting something more interesting or something creative.

Bread and pastries are terrific. My first experience at Ned's was soured by the fact that it was horrendously understaffed - I suspect some may have called in sick, as I've never seen so few people working there than that day. Our waitress mucked up our order and was run off her feet, but the coffee was nice nonetheless.
