Review La Notte - Melbourne

Andrew L
Excellent customer service. We took our grandparents here to celebrate a birthday. The staff made a real effort with them, engaging is small talk and just making the whole experience fun and merry. The food is good. Too be honest a bit better than expected from this end of town as it's known to be a bit of a tourist trap. 5 stars for customer service.

Used a groupon - 9 course Degustation. The first course was the redeeming grace to bump up the rating from 1 - 2 stars. The host didn't seem particularly interested in being there but the waiter who brought our food out was a lovely chat. The pasta tasted like homebrand packet pasta and the other courses were exceptionally lackluster also. If you're after authentic Italian with decent customer service you could probably find something more suitable a few doors down...

Pasta was fine. Service was horrendous. My friend asked for gluten free gnocchi dish and was told in a very abrupt manner that gluten free gnocchi was not available. Instead of the waiter saying "I'm sorry we can't do that, but let me suggest something else" he then just stood there in a seemingly annoyed manner. My friend struggled to then work out what was gluten free, until finally asking if he could have the ragu with the gluten free penne. Other than that, the waiter was coughing without covering his mouth, and generally they all seemed confused, bored, and impatient at the idea of serving people.

Extremly disappointed to say the least . Lanotte has been the venue of choice at Christmas for a dining club I am a member of for some years as well as other tines during year. Our visit on 9/12/16 found the bread on the table in all plates was mouldy. My spaghetti marinara had minimal or nil garlic and almost no seafood for a price of almost $30.00 Service very slow. All others of the same opinion. Will not attend here again. New owners have to address these issues.

Overpriced, poor quality food, understaffed. Typical pretentious restaurant, trying to be "classy" and posh by bumping prices up - had calamari, according to the waiter was fresh but clearly frozen, pasta was very average. Plenty of nicer restaurants on lygon/Carlton.
Mark Hassed
Pleasant but not exceptional Italian eatery. Prices are a little high but I guess that is normal for Lygon Street. They often have interesting specials. Coffee is good.

One of my favorite places for lunch when I am on a break. The restaurant is close to my work and we are often visitors with my colleagues. I love the Alfredo pasta - it is always fresh and well-prepared.
Chris Guest
Very impressed by the breadth of the menu, reasonable prices and quality of the cuisine. The staff are very attentive and the interior is carpeted so patrons don't have to deal with that shrill cacophony that happens in a lot of modern eateries.

My partner and myself stumbled upon La Notte this evening whilst we ventured out to Lygon Street. We had not checked any reviews online but were sold by the man who greeted us whilst looking at the menus, who promised us we'd be impressed with our food from the first bite and he was not wrong. <br/><br/>The staff were quick to take our order, and the food was served extremely fast. The portions were the perfect size and the meals were absolutely beautiful.<br/><br/>The restaurant itself isn't anything fancy, but the food and friendly staff make up for that. <br/><br/>I cannot wait to return again sometime in the future as dining at La Notte was a highlight of our holiday.

On a Friday evening not knowing where to dine we travelled from Melbourne CBD to Lygon Street, Carlton and very spontaneously came across La Notte. We've never heard any reviews about this place from friends or online but decided to have dinner at La Notte. I must say we left happy. Everything I tasted was delicious. I wouldn't call La Notte a posh restaurant but it's a nice restaurant to dine with friends and family. The decor and furniture were pretty old. All staff that served us were very friendly, attentive, and polite. It wasn't busy for a Friday evening maybe that's why the staff had enough time to be so attentive. Thank you for making our experience a positive one. We will be back for more delicious Italian food. I highly recommend everyone to pay a visit to La Notte. They sure do make you happy customers.

Awesome coffee. Very very quiet on a Sunday so we were the only ones in there at 11.30-¹²pm Staff are attentive . might have to see of their main meals are any good.

La Notte is one of many Italian options along the popular Lygon St restaurant strip. I came to dine at the restaurant with my boyfriend after a day out, and it was one of the few restaurants who didn't have an incessant staff member outside the restaurant, pushing menus in our faces. This could've also been due to the fact that it wasn't yet dinner time, but I digress...We each had the pastas on the specials menu, and enjoyed our food. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so the staff were extra attentive, with one waiter bringing us the big Specials Menu to peruse, and leaving it beside our table. We received our food quite quickly, and the serves were generous.Whilst we enjoyed the food, and would return again, the restaurant itself is in need of a makeover. The decor is quite tired and drab, and much of the restaurant looks like it hasn't been updated in decades. As great as the food was, the atmosphere was lacking, and I feel like that outdated, muted nature of the restaurants furnishings added to this.

Just arrived for lunch with my wife. We purchased a Groupon voucher to use while on holiday. When we walked in to a near empty restaurant and presented our voucher to a young man behind the bar, he asked if we had a booking which we did not after checking with the manager he told us we were 'very lucky' and they would let us use our voucher. He instructed us to sit where we like and he will be over when he can. After about 10 minutes of waiting the same man walked past dropping the Groupon special menu and without stopping said "you can pick from that". We were getting the feeling that he didnt really want to serve us however we dismissed it and set about choosing lunch. We decided to order some garlic bread from the main menu to go with our pasta lunch. After another 10 minutes he returned and stood beside the table staring arrogantly at us without speaking for a moment before saying "so, What do you want?" We gave him our order and told him that we would also like some garlic bread to which he responded "but you have to actually pay for that". Astonished by his rudeness i simply replied yes. When he returned to set our table he asked if we wanted our bread first or with the meal. I said it would be nice with the meal.Unbelievably he responded with "oh well too bad it is coming before", i asked him why he bothered to ask us if we dont get a choice, to which he responed "well i haven't actually put your order through yet". I can't understand why a buisness would offer a groupon special to bring extra customers in and then treat them with such rudeness as if their business didn't matter. At the beginning of our experience, we were planning to stay and order dessert from the regular menu, however after being treated with such disrespect, i can't wait for our mains to be served so we can leave.

For $25, we got a Groupon that was valued at $60. It was an Italian lunch or dinner and drink for two people. We rang up and made a reservation, and spoke to Mark who was extremely nice to talk to and very helpful.<br/><br/>Now, for $60 worth of food (even for two people) you think you would have a decent sized meal for $30 each. <br/><br/>But no no no. Even Crown Casino's hotels deliver room service meals bigger than this for less than $30!<br/><br/>We both thought we would go with the chicken schnitzel with a side of chips. (The Groupon menu was small so not much variety for you Groupon shoppers!)<br/><br/>We were surprised to receive our meals with the tiniest serving of chicken we had ever received before. If you were buying some special chicken blessed by God himself then you'd understand why you got such a small serving, but not for an undercooked pin sized piece of chicken as displayed in the photo below. The batter was all off as well, we thought we were eating fish not crumbed chicken.<br/><br/>Anyway, the handful of chips were extremely basic, tasted exactly the same as McCains frozen fries that you can buy in Coles in the freezer section. Am 90% sure that's what they use by the taste.<br/><br/>Top top off this disappointing meal, we were given half a plate of salad to cover up the lack of real food that we were given. <br/><br/>Basically, our meals were a main serving of salad with a side of chips and chicken.<br/><br/>No, really.<br/><br/>We will not be back.
I Love Food
Went here recently with a voucher for a sesfood banquet with bottle of wine. Firstly, the wine...it was bowler's run. This wine retails for $3! That says it all really, the seafood was overcooked/over seasoned, no water or bread offered and rude waiter. A horrific experience all round, don't bother.
Bon Bon
I guess it was a mistake that I bought this Groupon deal for the 9 course degustation. I was hoping for a better food but this so called degustation certainly disappointing. The best food that I had from them are probably the entree (aranchini, cheese snack ,sausage and eggplants plattter) and the steak. The rigatoni pasta with minced beef seem to be cooked and left in the warmer for more than 5 hours.just dry and not appealing, although the taste was alright. The dessert-tiramisu was so disgusting. I can't understand how a restaurant can serve up an over soaked tiramisu .judging from the plating, they don't seem to be able to pick up the cut tiramisu in whole and left a dent on the cream. The Nutella crepe .....well I believe I might be able to make a better version. Sigh... im not sure if other customers who dined in without voucher have been served with better food. However, dine in with vouchers should not be served with different quality of food and as I can remember that was a degustation that they sold. Despite that, they do have friendly staff and clean traditional Italian restaurant feel. If these are what you might be considering when you choose a restaurant. I don't think I will be back anytime soon.

Went here for dinner last night and we had a 9 course degustation meal. The entrees were very nice as well as the pasta. The lamb was probably over cooked and the desert was sensational. The service was very friendly.

HI everybody!<br/>What a lovely experience to have a meal at LA NOTTE.<br/>First of all: I was late to my pre-booked table : did phone the restaurant and, only had a very warm welcome. The waitress had a sincere and beautiful smile (sorry I did not get your name yesterday (Tue 08 March): Thanks for bringing me a glas of ice water which was very much needed due to high high temperatures. Also Mike and other staff members were so friendly: TOP SERVICE INDEED. <br/>The Restaurant has a lot of character and, it is very well established for some 31 years! The food was freshly prepared and, well presented: great taste too! Had my drink immediately served plus a jar of iced water. <br/>It was a lovely experience and, will come back again & will take some pics. Thanks/Grazie tante: you deserv e 10!! Ci vediamo!

It was just ok. Probably just because I went there in the cold weather, the cold food didn't make me feel very well. They would not make me feel sick but just I couldn't get used to this style of food. The price was ok due to using Groupon voucher.

Arrived the place was empty, no wonder.<br/>Had a Groupon voucher, was told that I had to make a booking, not sure why, the waitress had to speak to the manager a very unfriendly looking woman. She then came back and said ok you can sit down, I wish she had have said no so I didn't have to be subject to shi*t food.<br/>had pasta, worst I have ever had. Would not recommend or return. Unfriendly staff, no service, I find that most Lyon st restaurants are average and over priced.<br/>Anyone who says this place is good could not be taken seriously.<br/>Groupon have a lot to answer for.

"...GREAT WAIT STAFF - ALMOST SURE SOME O' THEM WERE EMBARRASSED ~ BS FOOD - PRETTY DISGUSTED..."<br/><br/>Last night we ‘experienced’ a "7 Course...? Italian...? Dinner for 4...?" at LA NOTTE Ristorante, Lygon Street, Carlton...<br/><br/>I have never had a more disappointing meal - their choices; the flavours, textures, looks, smells, tastes; the whole thing - up SH.. CREEK - so poorly thought out.. more poorly prepared - no care.. no pride.. no sense to please.. so blatantly UN-ITALIAN….!<br/>What a let down.. What a crock.. What ignorant arrogance..<br/><br/>And not cheap - the Groupon deal costing close to $200 - a few extra drinks [not alcohol] sending it well and truly over....<br/><br/>All I can say to the managing owner - sure he was there - "YOU WILL NEVER EVER GET RETURN BUSINESS.. NOT ANYWHERE.. UNLESS, AT THE VERY LEAST, YOUR FOOD IS 'GOOD' OR OTHERWISE 'GENEROUS' - AT SOME PLACES.. YOU GET BOTH..  AND IN THE HOSPITALITY GAME..  A TINY SMILE GOES A LONG WAY - A LITTLE LAUGH, GETS YOU EVEN FURTHER - FFS..." <br/><br/>The 'Premium Priced Seven Course Italian Set Menu' you offered us last night was uninspired, insipid, MEAN and just thrown together like crap - It really ALL looked like left-overs - There were only 2 things that were any good - the protein component of the 5th course: that THIN TINY TWINCY eye of grilled fillet steak, albeit had to season it, sitting on that white dinner plate with 4 ridiculous pieces of totally bland vegetable [1 strip of steamed..? red capsicum, 1 green bean.. yes.. 1 only green bean, 1 'piece off'v' a broccoli floret, 1 slice 'raw' zucchini] and NIL sauce [a drop or two of olive oil would have sufficed], and the 7th course: the BABYCINO SIZED cup of 'Vittoria Coffee' cappuccino.<br/><br/>HONESTLY, WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY EXPECTATIONS - MIXED REVIEWS [ALTHOUGH, SOME WERE PRETTY GOOD] - HEAPS OF VOUCHERS AVAILABLE - BUT, WE DID EXPECT.. WANT.. REQUIRE.. DESIRE.. NEED - REASONABLY FRESH, BALANCED, WELL-COOKED, PRESENTABLE, QUASI MEDITERRANEAN FOOD WHICH SATISFIED.. EVEN JUST A LITTLE..<br/>If only you'd given us an ANTIPASTO OF SOME SORT, A GOOD HELPING OF PASTA WITH REAL GRATED PARMESAN, ANY TYPE OF SALAD, A PIECE OF BREAD, A LITTLE BOWL OF OLIVE OIL... we'd 'v been more than happy... over the moon, possibly... and, my comments 'd be entirely different today...<br/><br/>You cannot treat the dining public like 'imbeciles' and presume you'll get away with it..<br/><br/>Almost everyone in the place had some sort of voucher, or another, for half a dozen different promos you've got running - Got no idea how the kitchen knew what was for what - I don't think ONE of those customers is going to return - And most probably they will also tell others not to return - The point of these vouchers.. you see.. is to 'showcase' your biz - Rather, I think you've used them to make a quick buck.. <br/><br/>Not real smart - unless, of course you're winding it up..!!"<br/><br/>Last night, I was not too proud of my Southern Italian heritage.. Truly sorry about that.. I kept thinking of what my amazin' father, an avid Lygon Street Carlton devotee, [hey, he had balls, a natural sense of fairness/justice, and a great Aust-Italo pride] would have said to his compatriot..<br/>Pretty sure, I know what he would'v said - can't be repeated here...!!!<br/><br/>Visited on Friday 12 Feb 2016 for Dinner.

Avoid this place. We were made to feel so uncomfortable by (who seemed to be) the proprietor, an older gentleman. When we arrived and presented our Groupon voucher, we were told to sit at a specific table 'over there' .....in an empty restaurant, he then presented us with a Groupon menu, we chose our meals, my partners meal was checkin schnitzel and was served as a piece of schnitzel cut in half-he received just one half. The owners customer service skills were in general dismissive and rude, but the icing on the cake was when we were leaving and I enquired as to where the restroom was. He actually pulled a face at me and without looking said 'walk straight back.' I had to ask the waitress for clarification again on its location.<br/>The restroom smelt very badly of urine, and flipped my stomach even more about the whole experience.<br/><br/>Just awful.

We came to this place with a groupon voucher and we had the nine dish disgustation with wine for 2 people deal.  The food was really delicious, everything was impressive from entry down to dessert.   The service was exceptional and this gentleman - Michael, was so friendly and professional, providing us with such a good vibe, which makes our dinner such a wonderful experience.  Thank you :)

Have been here a few times. We have had the seafood platter a few times. Very fresh. Amazing chilli mussels. Attentive staff and a great atmosphere. I will be back here for sure.

La Notte for me is one of the 'finds' of 2015 with superb Italian fare with front of house backing up the experience all the way. La Notte comes highly recommended, especially for lunch on a warm day there's no better place in Lygon St. Expect to part with around $35 of your hard earned for 2 courses + drinks

I had dinner with family at this restaurant last week. It was my third visit here and I've always found the quality of the food fairly consistent. The waitress who looked after us for the night was lovely and very helpful. We ordered the lemon pepper calamari for our entree. Gnocchi Ragu, Rigatoni Amatriciana, linguine carbonara, spaghetti marinara and the home-made lasagna. The favourite dish for the night would have been the cabonara- the sauce was just right and wasn't too heavy.<br/>All in all, we all enjoyed our dinner here. The price is quite alright for the serving you receive from it but it's definitely a lot more worth it if you share it the dishes out with a number of other people.

This is a nice place for sea food platters, and desserts. friendly and attentive staff,<br/>great atmosphere, nothing's wrong with this place at all.

I have never been to this restaurant and thought to try the food here and therefore I bought the Groupon voucher for dinner which comes with a glass of free wine for $28. I was utterly disappointed by the food they provide. I ordered the chicken snitzel and turned out they got limited selection of sauces unless you are willing to pay extra. The old waiter was not very friendly but the rest of staff were helpful. The chicken was sliced very thin and wasn't quite up to the standard. The French fries were small. The wine was bland. I felt disgusted and cheated and I don't think I would go there again or recommend anyone else to do the same.

Wow use to come here when we were young our local hang out , but geez that old waiter guy every time we can makes us hate that place more and more arrogant , rude walks off while ur talking to him , makes us feel in welcomed had Coffees they were cold , cheese plater was wow horrid empty platter half a strawberry cut into 4 pieces 1 dried fig cut into four just wow , nachos wow back in day use to be big plates full of flav I don't know what salsa they put on it more like tomatoes u would put on a bruschetta ... Then when reordering coffee I confirm mine is decafe ? Stupid waited responded what ever you had before ummmm no I want u to go back and check will never go back

Excellent service and good food. Had the special penne with wild boar, spicy and great value. Good coffee and generous slice of lemon tart that was more like a lemon cheesecake.

Sitting right on the Lygon street, this Italian restaurant provides lovely service and yummy food. Booking online is easy and we feel greatly welcomed.

Impressed ! We went on a voucher expecting mass produced fare... We were pleasantly surprised and have to admit possibly the greatest Affogatto ever . Friendly service and quality reasonably priced dinner !!

Enjoyed a beautiful dinner with my family here last night. The food was beautiful but even better was the fabulous service by the waiter Michael. Michael was extremely friendly, attentive and professional. I observed his exceptional customer service skills with every customer he served and his positive demeanor was consistent through out the night. Having a server as wonderful as Michael in a restaurant really makes a difference and has definitely encouraged us to come back to the restaurant in the future. Michael should be commended for his wonderful work!

I was really disappointed with my meal tonight. I had a grilled chicken salad. It was $22 and it had half a chicken breast that was dry. There were perhaps 4 cherry tomatoes halved and 4 pieces of orange segment. We also ordered garlic bread which came out dry toast with a side of oil with pickled garlic that you spread yourself, it was tasteless and bland.<br/>The waiter was really lovely and the service was great but the food was a let down.

Came here a month ago with a group of 16. The booking was last minute but they were able to accommodate and decorate the table for the occasion. The wait staff was attentive and patient. I had the Rigatoni Alfredo which is bacon, olives, spring onion and avocado in a creamy Napoli sauce. Great flavours, the avocado melts in your mouth. Amazing meal.

After many Groupon disappointments this was a pleasant surprise and quality of service and food was excellent ! I am leaving here stuffed and happy after devouring the seafood platter !

We came here with a Groupon voucher that was supposed to be worth $129 for a Seafood Dinner for Two with a side salad and chips, with a bottle of wine.  We believed we would receive the $110 Seafood Platter for Two plus a bottle of Rothbury Estate Sauvignon Blanc (value $129).<br/>What we received was a smaller version of the Seafood Platter (which was admitted to us at time of booking), a side salad for one person, and a bottle of Clear Skin Sauv Blanc.  <br/>Make of that what you will.  But in my books, that's pretty dodgy. <br/>Having said that, the seafood itself was fresh and had some very nice flavours.<br/>The wait staff were friendly and mostly attentive. <br/>I don't think we will be returning.
Samantha
From bad to worse, Quality of service has gone down since their main guy Paz is gone. bad service, non caring waiters, add extra food on our bill, no wonder you are not busy anymore. Good Luck, I will tell my friends not to come here.
Esstenn
Quality food and excellent service. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.<br/>Great atmosphere, entertaining waiters who are very helpful and informative about the food

Waste of my stomach space!. Just because we bought the Groupon deal, doesn't mean you serve us left over half arse trash! Rotten mussels, dirty-looking brown canned tuna pasta, stale tiramisu with watery crepes! The whole point of groupon is for you to attract more customers and give them a reason to come back, but I guessed you're too narrow minded to see the value of customers. NO MATTER how much they pay for a meal, Groupon or no Groupon..word of mouth goes a long way. Btw, there's no point of asking us how our experience was, when your staff can't handle the feedback and became defensive about it. Rude! If you can't take on board constructive criticism to improve your business than stop wondering why you only have 67%.

Worst meal on Lygon. It's shame to let the customer pay this price when the quality of service is so poor.<br/>Fortunately the food was good

Meh. Coffee was pretty bad by Melbourne standards. <br/><br/>Pasta dishes tasted like canned spaghetti.

La Notte is an Italian restaurant in Carlton which has been around for many years. I had heard from friends that they do great food at reasonable prices. It is on the student side of Lygon st just a short walk from RMIT. RNIS bought a Groupon for this for $12.50 for a main and a drink. Since they couldn't have soft drinks due to the H30 challenge they had to have iced tea instead. There was one grumpy looking lady though and she didn't like to be told off by the boss. My iced tea came in a cute Saint Vittoria bottle. I didn't know that Saint Vittoria makes iced tea. The staff there were very friendly, but we already knew what we wanted which was vegetarian pasta. We chose spaghetti over rigatoni and penne. I really enjoyed it, however I wished there was a little bit less of that rich tomato sauce. It drowned out the flavour of the pasta and vegetables. The tomato sauce though was creamy. Rating: 16/20- liked it but there were some minor adjustments which need to be made here. We would be back and do buy the groupon. We wanted dessert but we were too full for it. They did look good though and so did the young boy's hot chocolate.
Melbourne Glutton
The food was simple and real. My carbonara fettuccine was so creamy and full of bacon. And the fettuccine was al dente just how I like it, not too soft and just chewy. The pesto sauce on the brushcetta was also a nice deviation from the standard tomato ta

Came here with a Groupon for a 9 course meal but were really served 4, as they condensed the first 4 into one dish! One dish really meant one type of food - one sausage counted as one dish! Only dish we really liked was the mussels with risotto, the pasta seemed like canned pasta with canned tuna. Dessert was okay but not overly fascinating. I think if you do a groupon deal, don't cut edges as you won't get customers returning next time.

Best Ragu gnocchi. Fabulous melt in your mouth gnocchi with lamb Ragu and rocket salad with caramalised figs and toasted almonds. Add a drizzle of chili oil and a sprinkle of Parmesan<br/>A perfect Lunch for 2. <br/>Service was friendly and prompt.<br/>An entree size gnocchi and a spinach salad was plenty for us to share.<br/>Loved it!

Food is take away quality. See attached of main meal received today 19/1/15 without even starting my meal. A disgrace<br/><br/>don't waste your money here

Came here with a Groupon for a 9 course meal but were really served 4, how can you count separate meals if the risotto was stuffed into the pasta shell, ridiculous. The waiters were very messy, we had 3 different waiters serving us so the night was a constant barrage of asking if we've been served yet. We had to ask for cutlery several times when they brought out each meal (as they took away the cutlery from the 'course' beforehand). The food was very bland and unsatisfying. Plenty of good restaurants on Lygon, do yourself a favour and go across the road or next door.

Not the same little slice of Italy that once was. I remember being served giant bowls of pasta, enough to feed the table next to you, but this Lygon Street favourite has well and truly taken the tasting plate concept to a whole new level. Add the unfriendly and seemingly unhappy wait staff who may try to tell you what to eat as opposed to asking you what you would like to eat. If the bottle of cheap wine had of been refrigerated I would have rated it a generous 1 out of 10.

Great vibe with sensational food. Had dinner here last week with a group of 10. The service was attentive and friendly. The meals were hearty and tasty. We loved the seafood platters and the suggested wines were great value and complimented the meals perfectly. Can't wait to go back.

Had breakfast here last week. I had breakfast here last week with a friend.. the price were ok.. the only thing was that our waitress while she was taking the order wasn t writing anything on the pad.. so our order came out wrong... and some food didn t came at all... when we asked for the bill we have been charged also for the food we didn t received! no big deal but my advise is to write down everything... i m not giving a bad vote to the restaurant because the food was ok.. and despite this misunderstanding the waitress was a nice person.. i will try again here

Give this restaurant a go. Very good service, nice food, attentive waiters. But unfortunately the wait time is a bit long, which is understandable considering they are busy.

Nothing Special. Was overpriced for the quality of the food

Tasty stuff. Shoe string fries were awesome... not many restaurants use them... Red was a gooddrop...Chicken was moist but on the thin side...My wife a chef gave it a 7 outta 10 for her dish, being a vegetarian its hard to get a good meal.... Well done La Nottee!
I_enigma
Good bye old friend, many Christmas parties and couples dining. No more, oysters not up to scratch, sent 4 back to kitchen, not even 4 oyster discount on a dzn. Waiter knew I'd been there many times before. Goodwill can be bought, you chose not to.
Nico M
The food was good, the waitress, I think she is Sicilian , ( can't miss her, walks like a duck ) should come down of her high horse and be a little more down to earth! This is no Italy , she worked at spaghetata and y stop going there because of her attitude .. Don't need people like that.. Good luck
Rita
Friendly service Very disap.... Friendly service<br/>Very disappointing main size for what you pay. For example - the scaloppini came with vegies - my goodness, u can sure see the price of vegies have gone up - there were hardly any there, very very disappointing. The scaloppini themselves were extremely small. <br/>Pasta is good but a little pricey and not as generous as they once were with their sauce. No complimentary bread or water. <br/>Service was good but expected more on their food.

Y u let my guy go. Dear Current Owners <br/><br/>i used to be a regular of this restaurant, but b'coz of my work i moved overseas. i returned last week and as a ritual came back to my favorite place straight from Airport for 2 things, a good feed and my favorite guy Pawan. y on earth would u let him go. he was the brightness of this restaurant, always smiling. u need to get him back. he could make any situation better just by his jokes. ur service sucks, ur quality of food has gone down. ur current team of lady manager and waiters is just not doing the thing. me and my group of 15 will only be back if my guy is back.

Fantastic food.....best garlic bread!. Bought a Groupon voucher for La Notte. Glad we did, food was fantastic and we had a friendly, funny waiter who looked after us all night. Love the garlic bread they do....absolutely diviiiine! Great food, great service, will definitely be back asap.

Fantastic, Food, Service & Ambience!!. We've eaten at La Notten quite a few times over the past year with the latest visit only a week ago. After reading some pretty negative reviews which have shocked us, we wanted to share our experience with this brilliant restaurant! We've eaten there by ourselves, with family and with friends and every single time we've loved our visit, hence the reason for returning. From the Staff with their smiles and nothings too much trouble attitude to the beautiful food the ambience and feel of the buzz from a busy restaurant we always walk away feeling glad that we'd eaten there that night/day. Last week we had the Bruschetta for Entree (YUM), the Avocado Chicken which was succulent and the Risotto which was cooked to perfection with plenty of taste, (the children enjoyed beautiful meals from the kids menu), dessert we shared an amazing serving of sticky date pudding and ice cream! We will definitely be revisiting La Notte time and time again whether it's for breakfast, lunch or dinner! and we urge others to experience this FAB restaurant for themselves too!
Scottl
A DEFINITE Restaurant that we will be revisiting! Service and Food absolutely outstanding!. We purchased a Groupon Voucher and used it at La Notte prior to seeing a show. The food was beautiful from our Entree, Main to our Dessert and we received our food in a timely manner. The staff were attentive, smiles all round and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be returning with the family sooner rather than later! A very positive experience - Thank-you!!
Unbearable Appetite
Just another joint on Lygon!. Used a groupon, Entree was quite nice, Eggplant Parmigiana being the standout.<br/>Mains were Veal cooked in two ways. Vegetables we're a little hard still. Tiramisu was a worthy way to complete the evening. Shame the service was lackluster. 6/10

Worst of the worst. Came here with a voucher from groupon. very dry and tasteless bruchetta, uncooked penne matricianna, cabonara spaghetti which i can only see is pasta with very very minumum ingredient, dessert are plain pancake with ice cream which have to wait forever to come. Staff are rude very rude I mean. will never come back again and I dont think people are welcome at all. dont waste time and money!!!! go somewhere else trust me!

Myself and friends from Perth have been to La Notte four times on trips to Melbourne. The waitress remembered us a year later which was impressive. On all four occasions the food and service was excellent. On our last visit we were given at least two bottles of whiskey as complimentary drinks after our meal. I can only recommend this as a must visit in Melbourne.

Had a voucher from Groupon~the worst resturant ive ever had!!dont come and waste ur money

Terrible food & service <br/><br/>We came for lunch and were shocked at the poor food & service. Not only we were served poor quality food but very bad service. After waiting over 1 hour for the food, we were so disappointed. I would highly reccomend no buying th groupon voucher they are advertising, hardly worth the money or time to dine there. By far my worst experience.
Cookie Monster
Absolutely shameful meal ! Yuck ! Dodgy Italian gypsy food with such slow service of food! Long wait for such disappointing food course after course... Not coming back ever.
Neil
Had a late breakfast today, ran out of half of the menu, asked for the lunch menu instead and was told not for another hour, the two tables next to us we're given the lunch menu straight away and received food before us!. Service was friendly but not entirely working as a team.<br/>A little disappointed with the food as well!<br/>Maybe just a bad day

Don't like. Had a voucher from Groupon. Food was awful. Couple pieces of bread with tomatoes. Main was cheapest pasta with some cream and tomatoes sauce. Dessert very small pancake with half of spoon awful ice cream.<br/>The best part of this dinner is a wine. Which you can buy in any bottle shop.<br/>Dinner like this doesn't worth even a half price of Groupon deal. Shame! <br/>They have no idea about Italian food..
Gzjell
Gzjell. Never come back again. So seedy place, no conditioner, unprofessional staff, disgusting food. They are selling the most cheapest and awful food for big money. Bruschetta was just a piece of bread a little burnt with little tomato, the cheapest pasta, desert was disgusting too. The toilet was dirty. Very bad experience. Do not worse in to buy even from Groupon. <br/>.

I have had the best ever restaurant experience at La Notte.Great service and best food ever
Tess_barclay
Wonderful experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the food at la notte! I can't fault the food or the service. I have been a few times now and have not had a bad experience. you must try the seafood platter and the sticky date pudding! the sticky date is the nest I have had. will definitely go back to la notte and will recommend to friends and family

Awful. Had a groupon voucher. Shared entree of 1 small arancini, 1 small ricotta fritter, 1/2 sausage & 1 small serve of not very good eggplant parmigiana each. Main was a choice of veal saltimboca or barbecued veal. Saltimboca was a small serve (which was OK as it wasn't good) with some steamed vegetables, served on an entree sized plate and zero care taken with the plating. Choice of tiramisu or Nutella crepe for dessert. 1 crepe, a little Nutella, small scoop of ice cream. According to the waiter the sizes were small because we had a voucher. There was nothing about the food that would cause me to return. All of it very, very disappointing.

I chose this restaurant from groupon, we had no menu, no chance of choosing our food. The worst restaurant I have ever experienced anywhere. Don't waste your money.
Tom
Had the degustation menu which you would think shows off the best food on the menu, however it was the complete opposite. Without picking out everything wrong, it was simply inedible and probably one of the worst meals I've had in Melbourne. Don't waste your money here, head down to lambs souvlakis on the corner like I did after for a real feed....

I came to this cafe after a gap of over a year, did not find my regular and by far the most favorite person(Pawan), its a shame the previous owners sold it and the new owners could not keep a person of his caliber, he was the best I had seen in a long time, would love to know where he's working. This place is not the same without his jokes, be it water shots or the empty coffee cups, always a comic.

Nice!. Came here on a groupon voucher for a seafood platter and bottle of wine. It was fresh, very tasty and just nice not too filling and the staff were friendly too. Would return again.

Amazing!!!!. We headed to la Notte on Lygon Street. The most amazing barramundi stuffed with prawns! It is a must! The service was second to none and the prices were great! We will be back!

Delicious food and good service. I haven't been to Lygon St for years and after a visit to the Museum we were looking for somewhere for dinner. As it was Saturday night everywhere was busy and as it was a pleasant evening we wanted to sit outside. We got a table at La Notte and were promptly served by a friendly, attentive waiter. I had seafood linguine and my friend a prawn and calamari salad and both were delicious. We also had a bottle of Italian wine, coffee and liqueurs and found the price to be reasonable

A good evening. We went to La Notte with a Groupon voucher and enjoyed the experience. All of the items on the seafood platter were tasty as was the dressing on the garden salad. I felt the highlight was the calamari which was just as I like it. My husband had a mocha as well and enjoyed it so much he got another one to take away. The only negative was that the king prawns which had been fried had a cut along the back (presumably to remove the alimentary canal, however this was still in place in all of the prawns)

Good Service. Having read another review, I must say that I am fortunate that the service is friendly and good. We came with a voucher for seafood platter and wine. All the seafood were good except for the prawns. Fresh oysters and grilled calamari was Excellent
Ruby
We waited almost an hour for the food and it was a quiet day at lunch time. First off the waitresses were not on the ball and never took anything away from the table leaving our table covered in finished bottles and empty glasses. The food was less than average, my partner could only manage a few bites, the kieve was over cooked and dry (no garlic butter) the veggies were slimy and under cooked. And the chips were the worst I've ever had. ( chips!! How do u stuff up chips)
Lilyeatscake
Not too bad.. We were not greeted by the man standing out the front, unlike all the other restaurants along Lygon Street. I smiled and said "Hi!" and received a stare in response (maybe he was having a REALLY bad day?).<br/>After being seated, we were greeted warmly by a waitress. We came with a Livingsocial voucher for the seafood platter. The seafood wasn't the freshest, but was seasoned quite well. The fish was a bit overcooked, but mussels, oysters and calamari were great. Another waiter was also very lovely and took his time to ask us how the food was.<br/>I paid $49 for the voucher. I don't think I would've paid more than that for the seafood platter though, as the two of us weren't very full afterwards.

Great service!. Had the big indulgent seafood platter here last week. Everything was amazingly tasty. The mussels especially. The service was fantastic also. Very happy. A good indulgent evening.
Pink.rhapsody
Tasty. The food was quite good. It isn't a five star restaurant - there is a kind of flow that is missing from the wait staff and the ambiance - but it does not need to be!<br/><br/>We had a living social voucher. They seated and served us amicably. The food that came out was fresh and tasty. The staff were sweet. The wine was acceptable for the price. A good time was had by all.

I am honestly surprised at the negative comments about this restaurant. I must say I was a little nervous about going here because of the reviews! (I'm a picky eater and can't stand bad service). 6 of us dined here tonight with a voucher and we were made to feel welcome as soon as we were outside the restaurant! We hadn't even walked in at this point and the staff were so friendly! They explained the process, we got our drinks quickly and only had to wait about 15mins for entrees - which were divine! We didn't wait long between courses AT ALL - the timing was impeccable and all dishes were tasty and lovely (and there was so much food!). The lovely French waitress explained all our meals to us and we were extremely impressed how all the wait staff were courteous and friendly not only with the diners, but also with each other. My mum loves her vouchers and we have been to a few restaurants using them - but this has been the friendliest, tastiest and best value for money. Also the house wines with the voucher were more mid-top range rather than lower range so that was impressive - and the glasses were full! I had a wonderful experience and could not fault anything. I would definitely go again!

Went with my girlfriend and proposed to her there and then. We loved the food and the service
Cristi
Dined using a groupon voucher. Clearly not a priority. We were there for two hours & had not yet received our mains... Very poor service
Rosely
Had the seafood platter with a bottle of wine and the food was simple and good. Unfortunately not a standout but seafood was clean, fresh and good. Service was attentive and if you're not sure of where to go on lygon street - try la Notte for a good meal.

Great fresh food!! Went to La Notte a few days ago for lunch, ordered the lamb shank special, one word...WOW!! Meat was fresh melted in my mouth great flavour great service what else can i say?! NO GOOD ANYMORE. I always went here for dinner or lunch and didn’t go for probably 3 or 4 months, decided to go with my partner and was shocked. It is shocking everything was bad. We miss the old staff and how it was
Jaq
DISLIKE. Dislike, dislike, dislike! Terrible service - i will not be returning! With so many other great places on lygon st, why would you go somewhere that does not care about its customers!?
Tony.tobin
La Notte - La disgrace. We ordered the signature seafood platter dish. The dish that arrived did not live up the advertised dish. The dish comprised of 2 large and rubbery pieces of white fish, 4 prawns, 2 oysters naturelle and 2 oysters Kilpatrick, some calamari rings and a large number of small chilli mussels. NO CRAB, NO MORETON BAY BUGS. They skipped all the good stuff and replaced it with lots of rubbery mussels in shells We will never go back and cannot recommend it to anyone.

There's just no excuse for bad service provision. I thought the food quality was excellent & prices competitive – but I thought the service provision was really poor e.g. ordered accompaniments arrived either 10 minutes after 1 of the meals. & not at all in the second instance. Also the waiters just left us “hanging” so often. When I said something about it as I paid the bill, the male waiter simply shrugged it off saying, “We were ‘one down’”, to which I replied, “Sorry – that’s your problem, not mine".<br/><br/>Phill Jury (food critic & writer)

Very disappointing!. My husband and I were looking for a restaurant in which to have dinner on Lygon St and randomly chose La Notte as it had lots of people sitting outside which is usually a good sign. Boy were we sadly mistaken! Apart from the waiter being clueless about the menu (he had no idea what vegetables were served with the mains) the food was pretty appalling for this sort of establishment. The local pub would have been better. We both ordered veal scallopine vino bianco. The presentation was lack lustre but I overlooked that in the hope that it would be tasty. Wrong! My first bite revealed that the veal had been coated in flour before cooking creating a mushy sludge around the veal which was covered in a very bland sauce. The veggies were boiled with no added flavourings whatsoever. In no way was this meal worth the money we paid for it ($51.50 for two). It is such an insult to patrons for a restaurant to serve up this sort of cheap, lazy, clueless type of cooking and expect us to part with hard-earned cash for the experience. Harsh? You betcha!

Reccomended. Good food & amazing service! I recommend anyone looking for a great meal to try here!!<br/>Staff are really friendly & attentive which is different from most of the other restaurant in the area

Won't go there again. Got a Seafood Platter For Two through LivingSocial. It arrived minus some of the items on the menu - no Moreton Bay Bugs! No crab! Food was very average. Dessert was burnt. Waiter was really weird, to the point of rudeness. When we asked to swap raw oysters from the platter his response was: "If you don't like them, don't eat them. There are only three". Platter came with no raw oysters, and nothing extra to replace them. Had taken a guest as a treat and by the end of the meal actually apologised for having dragged them there. It was embarrassing. I wouldn't recommend it - especially once I saw the full price!

La Notte..... AMAZING. Orde.... La Notte..... AMAZING.<br/>Ordered a seafood platter for two... Was treated to a large double table with excellent service, drinks are a reasonable price for whats on lygon street. <br/>Very classy restaurant unlike some of the corny, pushy "italian" ones further up.<br/>Food was exceptional with large amounts of good quality seafood. Flavours were amazing and not over the top.<br/>Will defiantly go back and recommend to anyone!

Overall not bad. Went here for brunch this morning. The prices were decent, I paid around $11.50 for an eggs benedict. I wasn't too impressed with the hollandaise sauce, it wasn't creamy enough and there wasn't enough of it. Other than this the service was really good and the waiters were attentive and helpful. I would come back here to try other things on the menu.

Great food. Loved the seafood- amazingly fresh and very nicely prepared. Kid friendly - like being in an Italian family home.

Message for master chef. It was sunday night , we went la notte to dine and we all had very bad experience ,could not enjoy that moment .My steak was poked lots of times and over cooked ,vegetables cold ,pasts no flavour .chicken avocado dry and no flavour .Hey master chef do u actually know how to cook or just...? I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for a long time (3 years),i noticed the quality and taste of food has been slipping away. oh another unacceptable thing ,one of my lady friend was saying that she noticed a cigarette smell on her food. Plz guys (master chef ,iron chef what ever u r ) respect ur profession . I just wanted to ask one question to the la notte management ( i heard that its under new management) that do u have capable and qualified chef/cook (back bone of ur restaurant) in your kitchen????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
