Review Bangkok Terrace - Melbourne

Sarah Ellison
I’ve come to Bangkok Terrace quite a few times and tried a lot of different dishes. I highly recommend the Massaman Beef Curry, which was the highlight of the night. It was tender and very tasty. The duck salad was very delicious and the Pad See ew was ok. The deep fried salmon dish was very crispy and the sauce had a nice sweetness to it. Enjoyed the food and it was very filling.

Wonderful Thai cuisine. Soft lighting. Excellent service. What a beautiful restaurant. April 2021: Delicious Thai cuisine. Highly recommended.

We have been planning to go there once since our Camberwell days but finally got a chance to go there few months after we moved out of Camberwell. The decor and ambiance was nice. Menu choices were ok - not extraordinary but things that you expect to see at any Thai restaurant. We asked for Thai Iced Milk Tea however they ran out of that so had to settle with Thai iced coffee which was a bit of disappointment. I always had a thing for Tom Yum soup so of course I ordered one and we also ordered a seafood sizzling plate. The tom yum soup was very ordinary with two extraordinary jumbo prawns and countless mushrooms and there it stops. Very single dimensional dish with grainy texture and lack of flavour that you’d normally get in a Thai joint. The only positive thing in the soup was the presence of fresh, big fat jumbo prawns. The seafood sizzling plate was more of a veggie plate with some seafood hiding in them but again those were the freshest possible seafood and very juicy and tasty. Price wise they were ok considering the location right bear Camberwell junction. Good for trying once but definitely not for regular visit.

I order a meal at 6.30 and then noticed it wasn’t going to be delivered until 7.45. I called them And they said the meal is ready but it’s the Uber driver that hasn’t turned up. So my meal was ready at 6.45 and arrived an hour later and it tasted like it. DO NOT USE THIS RESTAURANT

Ordered a takeaway meal ($60 worth) at 8.20pm through third party delivery. No dramas. No issues. At 8.40pm 20 minutes later they cancelled my order with no explanation. Rang to see what had happened, advised 'we're not doing takeaway right now' and then hung up on. Only ordered from here as it said the wait time was shorter than neighbouring thai restuarants to start with. Its 2021, if youre going to not offer an option, update it as so. Dont leave someone hanging for 20 minutes to then surprise cancel on them.

Ordered Pad Se Ew through phone and repeated twice. But partner picked up and got back with chilli basil. Called the restaurant to clarify and insisted that I ordered chilli basil. Can understand if there is confusion but pretty average service trying to push the ball to customer without offering any apology. Giving 2 stars as their food are okay but service to be blamed.

The place has a convenient location near the tram stop on a busy street. The atmosphere is nice but the seat we sat on was stained & dirty. The bathroom (unisex) was not very clean. Our plates—although large in proportions—came out at different times, which could’ve made it a bit awkward for my date and I. Overall, it wasn’t that tasty and if I hadn’t ordered the coconut rice, I would’ve been still hungry. Seems like a place more for uni students on dates who won’t care too much for the finer things.

Delightful Thai food. The stir fry and curries are particularly delicious. The staff are always friendly and the service is fast.

Best Thai in Melbourne. Loved it, coconut rice was delicious and roti bread is the best I’ve ever had. Would also recommend the pad see ew and this fried rice. Service was great, very friendly staff. Will definitely be going back again.

Green Curry had 2 prawns and a few bits of mushy prawn and 3 prawn heads...this was a joke for a Prawn Green curry.
The restaurant was freezing cold, despite this they left the front door ajar to get freezing cold airflow for the open kitchen.2 staff on the floor for the entire restaurant of which one was only interested in doing take away.

My Rating: 2.5

I had less than 1 hour to have an early dinner before going to Rivoli Cinema for a movie. Did a quick search for eateries thats within 5 mins walk and decided to try Bangkok Terrace. The friendly customer service made up for the below average food with expensive prices.

🔆LOCATION🔆

Bangkok Terrace is situated on Riversdale Road in a nice modern commercial building only a few minutes walk from Camberwell Junction.

The restaurant itself is spacious and nice modern decor. It was a comfortable setting.

🔆SERVICE🔆

The staff were all Thai which was very nice, made the restaurant more authentic. The male waiter that served us was very efficient and fast, we were quite impressed.

🔆MENU/PRICE🔆

Roast Duck Salad, $18.50
(Roasted duck with mint & coriander, special dressing)

Pad Thai, $18.90
(Stir fried thin rice noodles with king prawns, egg tofu, peanut, garlic chives & bean sprouts, and touch of chilli)

🔆VERDICT🔆
The duck was cooked well but it was too sweet with the marinade sauce. The salad should have been placed on the side not beneath the meat as it made the mixed salad warm and couldn't taste the freshness of the greens. Couldn't really pour any dressing over it because of the duck. We moved all the duck to one side and left the salad and only ate the cucumber.

The Pad Thai was quite dry and bland. I really dont have much else to say about it. It was pretty disappointing. I've had way better Pad Thai which costed less.

Overall, the cost of the meals we felt were overpriced and the portion size was more entree serving rather than main meal size.

Dim red lights, open kitchen and friendly staff

Curry puff - sweet pastry with mashed veggies. The sweet chilli compliments.

Green curry - great aroma and taste. Quite spicy but the chicken is tender and a generous amount of veggies. Highly recommend the cocounut rice which is very aromatic and one of the best I've tried.

Pad see ew - Having the noodles charred is key to having a great noodle dosh. Tender chicken, soft noodles and great taste. Squeeze the lemon for some zestyness.
Very popular and always packed out with locals! The service was a bit scattered but the food made up for it and the bonus of BYO made it even better.

We last went to this restaurant about 6 years ago and said we'd never go back. However we decided to try it again. What a mistake that was. The service was so slow. Only one young Thai girl, who spoke almost no English, was on duty. The kitchen were so busy with take away that they didn't really cars about the customers actually in the restaurant. When the meal finally came the rice was only luke warm, having been served and left sitting out. The barramundi special in tamarind sauce was deep friend and over cooked and flavorless. The vegetable curry was ok. Nothing special. The soft shell crab was not bad. But it's hard to get wrong. I will never return.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Fish Cakes
+ Crispy Prawns with green rice flake
+ Prawn Tom yum
+ Roast Duck salad

Lots to love in this restaurant. The flavours are generally authentic and rustic (dishes came cooked with raw whole herbs and spices). We loved the entrees we ordered; the fish cakes were deliciously bouncy, and full of herbs, and the crispy prawns great textural mouthfuls. Great way to start off the meal. The prawn tom yum was tangy, spicy and and the roast duck salad was smokey, fresh and a generous portion. We also had the Steak Laos which although was tender and good was a bit small for the price. The green curry was also on the sweet side, and I prefer a more savoury version of this. The service here is exceptional, and the staff really make you feel welcome. Will definitely be back to try out other items in the menu.

Been to this place countless times. The food never disappoint me. Love the curry and the duck salad. The staff are friendly too. The place is clean. Bathroom cleaners can be improved though.
Good Food Good Mood
We went to Bangkok Terrace tonight for a family celebration. The service was of the traditional Thai variety with lots of bowing and the interior was pleasant. I found the food on the spicy side but the coconut rice was absolutely heavenly.

We started with spring rolls and chicken satay for entree. The peanut sauce was yummy with a decent kick. The main dishes we had were Penang chicken curry (we enjoyed it so much we ordered a second), chicken cashew nut and prawn pad Thai.

The prawns in the pad Thai were complete with heads which was a bit unusual to see in this sort of dish and kind of irksome to remove the shell. All of the flavours were there albeit with more heat than I would have liked. Would definitely go back and try more of the menu
Vea Gunawan
lovely place, nice staff, and delicious thai food! the pad see ewe with beef is a definite highlight alongside the crispy barramundi! the vegetable stir fries were average, would defs opt for the noodle stir fries, curries and entrees.

We went on a Thursday night and it seemed popular so we thought we’d give it a try!
We ordered the chicken soup (Tom khan chicken) as an entree, but it had too much lemon for my taste. With a rocky start, we ordered the Pad Thai, Choo Chee Salmon, whole Barramundi, coconut rice and the chicken salad.

The pad Thai was great :) just the right mix of flavours, leaving me wanting more even though my stomach was full! The barramundi was also great as well, especially with the sauce around it. As someone who is really picky with her fish, I’d 100% recommend this one. The chicken salad was great, and the portions weren’t small at all! The choo chee salmon was great! The sauce was heavenly (though a bit spicy), but it went well with the coconut rice we ordered.

Service was pleasant, and the ambience was warm and familiar, however I would’ve liked it if there was more lighting around the tables :)
Big Fat Layer
Pad Thai was way too sweet.
Jasmine rice overcooked and mushy, a big letdown to go with the delicious pumpkin curry.
Beef salad was great, juicier and more tender than those in most Thai restaurants.
Green rice flakes coated prawns were perfectly cooked.
Lily Jae
Have enjoyed every one of my meals here. They do a great pad Thai, and all the curries with coconut rice are also delicious! Probably had better mango sticky rice elsewhere though
Anna
I ordered the bbq chicken, which I found way too salty, but the smokey flavour was nice. Overall, the portion of chicken was quite generous, but the dish was not at all filling. The staff here are super friendly, and ambience quite nice, lighting a little too low lit for my liking.
Nomafoodic Chipineats
Flavours are really authentic, ambience enjoyable and cosy. Love the Tom yum soup, so good , be it on the small portioning side. Everything tastes so potent. Good service too!

Visited this venue for dinner with friends on a Saturday night. The venue has an excellent ambience to it and the staff was very attentive to our needs. The food was fabulous (I ordered the Pad Thai) and selection of drinks was also excitingly different to the usual choices you see on everyday menus. I highly recommend this place to anyone who has a palette for delicious Thai cuisine.
Emily Clare
Amazing service!! Good food, great ambience. Definitely will be coming back! Pad Thai was absolutely amazing and so was the crumbed calamari entree

Open kitchen concept, delicious and fresh thai foods. Been to this place many time and never disappointed. Recommended booking in advance to have nice sitting due to very busy weekend . Favourites dishes too many but here they are: Steak Laos, Holy Basil Crispy Salmon, Crispy Whole Barramundi ,Sizzling Seafood..foods may take up to 20mins waiting but it worth it.
Obaum0106
Food is fantastic, very filling! Would recommend. Dessert serving size is a little bit on the smaller side, but still tastes wonderful regardless. Atmosphere is great too.
Nicole
Such a disappointing dining experience. Food is overpriced, portions are small and the service extremely slow. We were two of only six people in the restaurant and waited 40 minutes for our first course. It is also futile to engage the waitress in conversation regarding the menu as I’m sorry to say they don’t understand English very well. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.
Diner
Atmosphere - bustling, lively, hectic, noisy
Food - nicely presented, tasty but on the sweet side
Customer service - friendly when waited on, you could sense they were understaffed, lacked attention to detail
Price - fair
Would I return? Yes.
Allison King
My partner and I booked last minute. We had a pile of starters to share. Spring rolls, money bags, prawns and satay chicken. The satay chicken was the best and the sauce was an absolute winner. We then tried the signature dish, ayam panggang. It was a dish that you just keep going back too. Was amazing. We also recieved complimentary coconut steamed puddings. They were gorgeous and silky. Great service as well.

Thank you for the amazing dinner.

Wednesday 1608.17 at 6.30pm.
The food was not true Thai and left a lot to be desired.
We tried the Bacon & cheese spring rolls - this seemed like it might be interested but underwhelmed.
The salad from the Duck Salad did not deliver.
The King prawns were ok, but not something I'll remember.
The staff provided sufficient service.
The restaurant was nicely decorated.
The place was slightly cold.
The entry lights in the main building annoyingly kept coming on and off.
Alan
Poor service, the food is below average. Wait for half an hour and informed milk tea has been sold out, a simple Stir-fry chicken takes almost 2 hours to wait....and the food is too salty!!!worst dinner experience so far. Definitely won't come back!
Aurnie
Love the food / ambience and the staff is super polite and friendly !!
We are Thai food lovers and I feel this place is best and less which ✅ all u need !!
Crispy barramundi and green curry is a must try and oysters and prawns were amazing !!
Give it a go !

We stumbled across this hidden gem just by chance, making a last minute reservation with 30 min notice. We ordered oysters for entree, Pad Thai, the Sizzling Seafood from their Signature Dishes and to top it off the Chilli Crispy Chicken. All the food exceeded expectations but what took us by surprise was the Crispy Chicken! It packed so much flavour, who knew such a simple dish could be so delicious?! For drinks we ordered the Young Coconut which came in an actual coconut with spoon and all (drink + dessert in one - BOOYA!) As we waited for our mains after devouring our entree, we realised our luck at having secured a table at 6.00pm for 6.30pm. The place was packed by 7pm! To add to the experience, the staff was so courteous, friendly and observant. We were looked after from start to finish. Definitely recommend! We know we'll be making the trip to try more!
Retro DD
The interior of this restaurant leaves me expecting the food to be pricey-however prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious.

We ordered the chicken pad Thai and the pumpkin curry. Both were delicious and perfect portion size. Friendly service, we will be back
Liu Dai
Been here three times already. Really enjoy the service and decorations here. We ordered Fried Calamari for Entree, Green Curry with Prawns, Roasted Duck Salad and Grilled wagyu beef for mains. Coconut rice served together with Green Curry was fantastic! Definetly will come back with friends!
Pinch Of Bacon
The food was a bit underwhelming and not true Thai. It was the noise level in the restaurant that was the most off putting though. Not likely to make a return visit.
Joel
Nice atmosphere, always good food. Went with a group of friends and ended up sharing. If you like hot, it's delicious. Staff is friendly and good vibe.

If you're looking for a good meal, stay away from Bangkok Terrace. Paid $33.50 for some vegetarian fried rice and some spring rolls delivered to my house. Absolutely appalled with the quality of food. It's inedible. The rice is basically mush, the spring rolls weren't cooked enough. I wouldn't feed it to my dog.10/10 would not recommend.
Meeee Hungry!
This is our local go to...for anything! Deliciously fresh and tasty Thai with stirfrys, curries and other yummy dishes. The flavours are rich and flavoursome. The coconut rice is the best - we have been known to grab one of these to add to a dish we have cooked at home as its so amazing! Everything is reasonably priced also, so good to buy a little bit too much to enjoy it the next day with leftovers!

My current favourite restaurant. We are obsessed since moving in around the corner and are tracking about twice a week, mostly dining in but have also tried takeaway. Their massaman beef is a favourite and their coconut rice and roti are as good as anywhere in Melbourne. The beef salad, crispy salmon and any dessert can all be recommended. They have a lovely team serving who are super nice and from our second visit onwards have recognised us and make us feel special every time we walk in.
AaronN
I liked the interior of this place, with service being good too, however food was not spectacular. We ordered the oysters, roti and peanut sauce, chicken wings with sweet chilli sauce, pad thai, and panag curry. Apart from the panag curry which was pretty good, everything else was just ok.
Fifi
We have found that this place has deteriorated a bit over the two years we have come. Food is generally good, our favourite being the prawn in betel leaf entree (consistent). Latest visit we had papaya salad, roti, green curry with prawns, Lao style beef. Mains came before entrees. Takeaway takes preference here, meaning it took 1 hr for final main to arrive, and drinks had to be reordered twice. Bangkok Terrace does great food, but it's fast sliding down in our estimation due to slowest of service.
Shoo Shoo
I've been here once before and decided to try it again. Last time I came, service ok and food was decent... maybe that was because of my BYO wine. Second time round service still wasn't much better. Little details make a big difference, such as a smile or friendly hello. I'm also not a fan of waitresses wearing their hair out or really casual clothes when at work (I get that's a personal preference), but it lost some appeal when I saw that.

Food was hit and miss. This time round we had curry puffs, the pumpkin curry (approx $18) grilled BBQ chicken (approx $18), and the whole barramundi (approx $26), with some coconut rice ($3.50 per serve).

The curry puffs had more of a sweet, soft pastry than that crispy pastry, however the filling was delicious. The pumpkin curry was a win and had a little kick - I'd easily order it again. The BBQ chicken was a flop. It was a bit bland and rubbery and the side salad was very unappealing. However the barramundi was also a standout. It was light and full of flavour.

One more negative was that our meals came out at different times. We had been served the curry and the chicken and were told the fish would be here soon. I assumed by "soon" it meant the time it was going to take to the waitress to walk from our table, to the food counter, and then back again. Clearly I was wrong. We waited a good 10 minutes for the fish to arrive while our other meals sat patiently and untouched. We ended up tucking into our food as our friend waited for his dish because I rather be rude, than eat cold food.

The restaurant has a good atmosphere for a date or small group dinner. As a whole it's not bad, and is actually on the list of places I would go back to. If they improve the details, it's a great little restaurant.
Parking in the area is easy, it's close to a tram stop, and it's BYO with a $3 corkage.
AF
Horrible customer service. Ordered entrees mains and drinks for a group of 5. Waited 30 minutes still no drinks... restaurant half empty staff just standing around. Attempts to grab attention lead to dismissive service. Entrees for the group turned up at 45 minute mark. One of the 5 mains came another 25 minutes later another ones did with a good 10 minutes before the next persons main turned up. Drinks ordered didn't arrive and we were just over it by the end. The bill included things we never received and staff were rude, unhelpful and doing anything to avoid serving any of the customers in the restaurant.
Queen Foodie
Love this place - flavoursome food, reasonably priced and always busy. Last night wasn't so busy but service was very slow. Thai green curry is a must and their coconut rice is one of the best I've had. One thing I absolutely hate about this place - it's always so bloody cold. Aircon seems to be on 24/7 and even when u complain, they bring little heaters around instead of putting on the big heaters - don't get it.
Anna Yong
From reading the reviews, I have to admit I didn't have high expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised when the food was delicious. Would definitely go back to try more of the menu. Nice friendly service and great decor
Sally Waller
Some of the freshest tastiest Thai around. The home delivery service was great. We will undoubtedly order from here again. Thanks Bangkok Terrace. Yum!

Worst place I've ever been. Stormed out after 2 hours after a little bit of food and we weren't the only ones complaining. Terribly slow not with my wait
Samantha Viti
The food wasn't too bad but having to wait an hour and a half for it didn't help. I understand Saturday nights are busy but maybe try not having more tables than what you can actually cope with - I could barely get out of my seat because they packed so many in there. It's very clear when places like this are about quantity and not quality.

I was surprised when I noticed that the restaurant doesn’t serve pork at all.

Tried:

crispy chicken red curry stir fry with long beans (this is usually done with crispy pork belly in other Thai places) – the chilli was nice. Not spicy at all. More like tangy and sweet.

pad thai – came with two big prawns. Probably the sweetest pad thai I’ve ever tasted! Wayyy too much sugar in this one and there was no heat in it at all although I recall the menu saying it would be spicy.

Lao steak – didn’t eat this but my dining companion said it was nice.

Thai milk tea – sweet and thick like how it is meant to be

Service was prompt and polite
Elle Lovestoeat
Definitely the best Thai in Melbourne. I always have the green or red pumpkin curry and it's always consistently good. It's exceptional value for where it's located and the waitresses are always topping up our jugs of water without even asking. I have come across the chef doing fire shows in the kitchen outlooking the dining area not sure if this is a regular installment or if it was part of a function but it was like being by the riverside at Crown.
Yang Chiachia
The service was poor overall, only one girl looked happy and enthusiastic. The price and portion were alright but the taste is not impressed. Can't think of a reason to go back again.
Melvern Widjajakusuma
The presentation of the food was good.. The place is very cozy and welcoming.. But the taste of the food is not as good as the presentation.. A bit like home cooking for me..

Great local, easy to order and efficient service. Tasty and food portion keeps my wife and I happy for dinner and lunch

The food presented well and taste wise a bit above average. Food come quite fast considered the place quite busy on Thursday night. But the only minus are the staffs. Quite hard to get them to look at you so we need to wave or to call and we need even to a bit to call loudly when we asked for the bill. Oh well...
Megha Koppa
Gorgeous authentic Thai food that's absolutely flavoursome! Pretty pricey but a wonderful place for a romantic date. It is slightly loud inside, however, it adds to the Thai atmosphere
Ari Armenopoulos
Great place for Thai food. Amazing tastes with a possible western twist?? Staff are great too. Thanks for a nice evening great green curry nice snapper and some great Thai beef.
Laura Chen
After a tedious phone ordering session involving repeated confirmations we enjoyed a free home delivered meal as local residents last night. Quite impressed with the speedy service and delicious food. The generously portioned Thai Fried Rice contained 3 large meaty prawns and the flavourful Massamum Beef Curry still has me salivating. We will definitely return to dine in!
Mimi
Best Thai restaurant in Melbourne in my humble opinion. There is a variety to pick from the menu but my personal favourite is the papaya salad! I love the curry here as well as the coconut rice! Portions are much better than rival Thai restaurants (not naming the obvious). Would recommend and come back for sure!
Bluecat
Nice atmosphere! Great service. In the food department, it's Modified Thai food for the western tastebuds. We ordered a lot of dishes and it was just okay. Portion size is a little small, most dishes had the same presentation. Check the pics I uploaded. Will I be back again, sorry ..no as I have many other Thai eateries to choose from.
Luke And Hannah
Decent place for Thai food, very nice decor with good Thai dishes. We tried the tomyom soup, which was tasty but a bit starchy, we guess they used powder rather than real ingredients. We also tried the Thai fried rice which was very delicious, just that the portion was a bit small. Coconut rice was excellent, sweet and salty. The prawns in the tomyum souo and fried rice were smoky, fresh and tasty. Overall the food here is good but a bit pricey since portions are a bit small.
Steph A
Great Thai food here!! I come here a bit and the food never disappoints! The hardest part is hooding what to have! The service here is also fantastic!
AdrianM
Visited Wed 30th Dec 2015, 2 of us, (middle aged blokes!) 3rd time here and somewhat disappointed to the level we would not return again. My friend ordered stir fried scallops and king prawns which had 4 prawn heads in it to bulk up the dish! As it was it had 4 small scallops a 2 king prawns. The waitresses were trying to do a good job but only 2 (max 3 occasionally) for a dozen tables. Ordered desert......never came but we were charged for it. No coffee on the menu for those coffee lovers. Very small portions, especially the boiled rice.....tiny in fact. When it came to deducting the desert off the bill, no real problem but no apology especially from the bossy looking tall manageress who was consulted, she acted like it was everybody else's problem but not hers.

Was searching for home cook Thai food since I'm Thai and happened to be picky with Thai food. Bangkok Terrace has take me back home and complete all spices and herbs, well combined and balanced. Great Thai food. and Easy to get too. Definitely Masaman Curry, was spot on just like my mum made it.
Will definitely go back again.
Lucas Mullin
I used to live around the corner from here and was a regular from day 1. Highly recommended, good for takeaway but the restaurant is decorated well so it's great place to eat in too.
Lisa Tarzia
Very pleasant dinner out locally. Get there early so you can get a chair with a seat back as many are stools. The food was timely, hot and well balanced.
We had the prawn on betel leaf and soft shell crab (special) for entree. We kept it light with a green papaya salad (special) and the choo chee salmon - a might tasty salmon curry (maybe a bit on the sweet side). We shared a serve of coconut rice (a tad over cooked) between us. Total bill was $60 including $3pp corkage. Every single employee is Thai and all displayed beautiful warm Thai hospitality. A really nice evening

I have been wanting to go to this place for a long time so finally ended up 2 weeks back for a friend's Birthday. This was my second visit though, the first one was pleasantly surprising so I wanted to try again.

The restaurant looks very upmarket; loved the interiors. The dishes are well priced and you get a lot of food so sharing is highly recommended.

We ordered Pumpkin chicken, Ayam Panggang, roti bread, rice and Thai Milk tea. Roti bread was absolutely delicious so we ordered more, loved Pumpkin chicken and the flavours of Ayam but we felt it was tad bit too sweet and so was the tea. The service was slow and we had to wait for a long time before they took our order (the restaurant was almost empty so no excuses there).

I would have rated this place higher if not for the bad service and too much sweetness. I guess it is a bit of a hit and miss place. I would still recommend it.

Oh btw try their Salmon Chu Chee, i had that the first time I went there. It was absolutely fantastic and made me come back. Hope they are consistent with that dish.
Sam
Great Thai food with a difference! Beautiful interior and a varied, interesting menu made for an above average Thai meal in Camberwell. Food was inventively presented and quite flavoursome. A good option in Camberwell for a weeknight dinner.
LocalJ
This has become a favorite family spot - lovely staff, consistent good food, great atmosphere to catch up. Be mindful food tastes a bit sugary so you may want to ask about that when ordering. Of particular interest is they are Buddhist in faith and they give offerings to the gods every night, set a meal for them and give them food out the front. These are good people.
John
Great place! Food was delicious, staff were very friendly & definitely value for money. Went there with a group of 9 and we all left satisfied. Would definitely go back!
Mum Of A 2-year Old
I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The food felt "authentic" and in any case really delicious. But the seating is not so comfortable, some seats are quite low and with no back.
Laura
Overrated. Not that cheap. Too salty. The Tom yum tasted like stinking vegetable soup was used as a base. Poor services. This place has obviously gone downhill. Longest wait ever. Not enough wait-staff, and the restaurant management greedily packs in as many tables as it possibly can to maximize revenue to the inconvenience of customers. Don't go!
Chicken
Enjoyed the food very much. A little unrefined in areas but I think it adds to the charm. Service can be hit and miss but overall pleasant and recommended for a local night out.

Went Saturday night. Place was packed. Seats are quite uncomfortable. Prawns on betel leaf were great. Salt & pepper calamari was a bit stringy. Fish cakes not that great. We had 3 curries for main - chicken pumpkin, Penang duck and beef massaman - all fantastic. Also had grilled chicken & beef which were great. Desserts we had brownies, tapioca - all good
Bernyted
Great good but chaotic. I had eaten here before and knew the food was good so I recommended it when a friend was looking for somewhere good. What a disaster. It was embarrassing.

The food took so long that we got hungry and had to ask for it several times. In the meantime the rice got cold. We were sitting there looking up other local restaurants wondering if moving would be viable and stressing about getting back in time for the sitter.

The food, particularly the steamed fish was good except the calamari was over cooked and chewy and although was ordered as an entree as soon as we sat down (to have a snack while we contemplated the menu) some of it arrived after the main course, a considerable wait. We had to keep asking for it. The delicious smells coming from the kitchen made the long long wait torturous.

Unless you somehow managed to flag down a waiters you got ignored. When you got one, they were flustered. We contemplated getting our own plates and cutlery to speed things up. There was no offer to order drinks on arrival for the designated drivers or open the champagne which was on the table (and no flutes).

It is not a cheap option but felt like eating in Coles cafe. They need to train the staff. We don't get out much and were really looking forward to it but it was awful. It was a 50th birthday celebration with dear friends but I wish we'd just opted for a stress free night in with takeaway pizza.
Al
Came back to this place for a second time.
We ordered our meal and it took 2hrs to come out!
no only that but the tables next to us who ordered their food after us came out before us. And they came 30mins after we had seated then ordered.
WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!
Mistermister
Great for a pre movie dinner.. Plenty of space. Kitchen is in the front so you can see everything they do. They aren't quick on service (order taking or bill). But the food came out in plenty of time. The fish cakes, betel leaf prawn and thai beef salad was not as tasty as I usually like (Jinda Thai-style). Green Chicken Curry was tasty, but a bit watery. Pad Thai was good but the chilli basil beef stir-fry was not chilli at all (still nice). Although, not all the flavours were strong, it was nice and fast for our 1hour dinner. We BYO and total was $110 for 4 people. Portions were slightly on the small side.

Never again!. Birthday dinner ruined, the food was awful, worst Thai food I have ever had! Service was really bad, portions very small not worth going there better off going to a local take away! Your bill is given to you written in Thai ... If you complain they pretend not to understand English! Over priced never again!

Really enjoyed. Family dinner here with teenage kids. The noise and bustle perfect for our group and the food was really delicious. Especially loved the crispy salmon.

Awesome take away. This is our local favorite Thai take away...over the months we have tried a range of dishes from stirfrys to curry's to lamb cutlets and all have been amazing. Service is also impeccable. Could not rate this place enough.

Busy restaurant, which appears popular & had great reviews. Pictures on an English menu is not really necessary as it is a distraction & unnecessary bulks up what is not an overly extensive menu.

Staff were appalling, zero service. We had to keep trying to get their attention. Food was OK. Nothing amazing. With so many other options for Thai around this is not a venue I would venture back to.

The decore was what attracted us and the staff were very good. However I've never had such a boring Thai meal. Completely uninspiring. The food was pleasant but boring however the soups were a great disappointment. They tasted like they were from a supermarket and served with a dessert spoon.

Modern ambience. Had dinner last night with a group of 5, waitress was helpful and efficient, no problems with service and meals, pad thai was a little dry and steak laos was disappointing as it only had a few strips of beef with salad on the side, green chicken curry could have done with more chicken however overall a good experience with a busy but cosy atmosphere, would go again in a large group, not a place for an intimate meal for 2 as its too busy

Huge disappointment. This is worst restaurant experience we've had in the last couple of years.

The food is okay, but no better than any other Thai restaurant one would visit at random. Given this, it's at least 50% overpriced.

The worst thing is that restaurant seems to operate like a mechanical assembly line cranking out meals without the slightest thought that it's supposed to be a social environment, and people would like to EAT AT THE SAME TIME! The time from the delivery the first main meal in our party and the last was over 30 minutes! The cook staff seems to prioritize the numerous take-out orders that are constantly streaming out the door.

A further problem is that there's not nearly enough wait-staff, and the restaurant management greedily packs in as many tables as it possibly can to maximize revenue to the inconvenience of customers.

Customers throughout the restaurant were frantically waving their hands trying to attract the servers attention.

The server had spilled water on our table and never came to wipe it up before the food was delivered.

We won't be going back.

Too many tables for the room. Amazing food which came out at a good pace for a shared meal for 6. Best Pad Thai we've ever eaten!
But OMG this place makes it hard to reach the bathroom so if you are sitting at a table anywhere near this space you are bumped and jostled all evening. We requested a move to a better table and were allowed to move, but only grudgingly. Staff are efficient rather than friendly or helpful.

The dishes at Bangkok Terrace are amazing. Have been there many times and have enjoyed their great selection of entrees and mains. I only fault them on the slow service at times. Especially if you're seated on the table furthest from the kitchen... you can be long forgotten. Room for improvement:(((

Delicious. Went for dinner and was not disappointed. Food was so tasty and fresh it was really enjoyable. Only one thing was that the Massaman curry was a little over salted but apart from that everything was perfect. Great service and food came out reasonably quick. Will definitely be going back.

Absolutely love this place! The staff are so so friendly and the meals are delicious. Even better that its BYO. Great traditional atmosphere. It's a great place to go with a small or big group.

Great food, nice decor but crap service. Our meals came out at a reasonable pace, but our 3 mains were brought out 5-10 minutes apart. Also not one staff said hello, just took orders or placed food onto the table without a word. One particular waitress had a very short skirt on with a dinner plate size tear in her black stockings - it looked like she didn't care. Have to agree with a couple of other reviews about chipped plates too.
I'd go back as the food is great (especially the wagu beef salad and roasted duck), but staff need to lift their game.

Love it! Regular customer. I have been here three times now, the food is just fantastic. Went here last night for my birthday dinner and the other 8 people with me all agreed everything was delicious. My favourite dish is simply the coconut rice, I can eat it on its own it's so sweet and perfectly cooked. Will definitely be back!

The quality of the food is not good, not fresh. There is no main chef, looks like just a bunch of students cooking, they don't seems to be experienced cooks. More, the food do no taste like Thai food. Won't visit again. Defenetly not paying for what money is worth.
Chris
More like pad dry. Avoid.
Antoinette
Beautiful Thai food but very slow/inefficient service.

Dinner Experience. Dinner booked for 6,
2hours37 minutes for the mains to arrive,
disgraceful, the table next to us got up and left after waiting over 1hr 20.
Meals arrived and were put on the end of table- staff forgot who ordered what.
A very poor restaurant experience and would not go again

Great food but unfortunately extremely poor service ! It's simple either employ more staff or cease doing take away !

Beautiful decor and ambience with plenty of noise and friendly staff. Food quality varied, most meals were nice without blowing us away. One chicken dish was drowned in sweet and sour sauce. And dishes arrived at our table in a pretty haphazard way. BYO is a must, as is booking! it is always quite busy so make a reservation. Penang curry is very spicy, but yummy. some vegetarian options, mostly with silken tofu. Betel leaf entree is a cheap and tasty starter, and the spring rolls were crunchy and yummy. Overall a fun night out but don't expect the best Thai food in Melbourne. We will definitely be back though.

Great food, great value. Very good, creative food. The prawn on betel leaf was outstanding, and so was the roast duck salad. The papaya salad, salt and pepper calamari, massaman curry and holy basil salmon were very good as well. With BYO wine our dinner came to $35 per person. Excellent value! The place is a bit crammed and was very noisy on a Saturday night so it's not suitable for a quiet, intimate dinner but it's great for exceptional Thai food at a very reasonable price.

Great fresh food!. Dined here for the first time. Really impressive fresh, tasty food - loaded with herbs and quality ingredients. My two children (11 and 12 years) loved it too. Service at times a little patchy - ie had to get waitresses' attention but I can very much excuse that given the outstanding food - and they were always friendly. Would go back in a heart-beat. The green papaya salad a stand-out amongst an impressive line up, as were the fresh spring rolls. Duck curry divine too. Well done Bangkok Terrace!

Quality Food. Easily the best Thai food you could ever find, and reasonably priced. Great decor, only suggestion would be for staff not to rush the diners so much.

Just ate here after seeing all the positive reviews. Absolutely DISSATISFIED! Tasteless spring rolls and rubbery calamari for entrée, so so Green curry for main that could've been from any Thai takeaway. This restaurant is so greedy. They had obviously overbooked, everyone was literally forced to Sit back to back without enough room to even get out to use the bathroom. Alongside the fact that it was so noisy my wife and i could not hear each other. When we finally got our bill after 3 asks, the waitress stood over us and watched while we paid. We were then forced to shuffle out sideways along the back wall of the restaurant as there was no way to walk out past the overcrowded tables.

Will never eat here again!

Caught up friends here last night and it was great. Food delicious, not too expensive and atmosphere just right. Could have had another dish but no-one checked on us and has to ask for dessert menus. This is a small issue that would not have any impact on my decision to go back. Highly recommend

Great service, delicious food. Had a party for 40 here the other night, staff were very attentive and accommodating. Food was absolutely delicious, and was brought out together despite the large numbers. Will definitely go back!
Ayla
FINALLY! Delicious fresh Thai and they delivered! Green flaked prawns and prawn pad thai incredibly fresh and tasty. Vermicelli spring rolls not that great- wont order again but happy with meal and delivery time 45 min window delivered in 35 mins

Waited over 1.5 hours for main. 3 in the group received mains others had to wait even longer. Only received mainz after constant requests. Should have called in for takeaway from the table. Never again.
