Review Saigon Fusion - Melbourne

Awesome little Vietnamese restaurant in a cozy setting. Serves up the traditional pho which is amazing and great value. Pork belly roll is delicious too. Fresh herbs and chilli to smear on everything. Try for breakfast!

Crispy pork Vietnamese roll was yummy BUT they put chilli in it without askin if I wanted it or not :( I don't enjoy chilli at all so kind of ruined it for me. Not much crackling and lots of carrot. But better than many I've had :)

Ordered 2 bread rolls at 3pm but its crunchy wakes me up. I'm saigonese and those bread rolls in the center of Melbourne surprised me compare to many bread roll shops that I have visited around The Grilled pork chop a bit salty but I eat salty so it's all great. Would love to visit again.

Delicious and convenient food in the cbd. Staff are very nice. Happily replaced my tofu bun when I mentioned I couldn't eat peanuts. Cheap and cheerful. Highly recommended.

Great Vegetarian Food! Banh Mi Tofu! possibly the best veg banh mi in Melbourne - and ive eaten them around the world. They offer a decent range of vegetarian/vegan versions of their vietnamese menu. They do Pho with different types of faux meats. This is one of my favourite veg options in the city centre.

It used to be a fantastic cozy place with fresh food and quick service, managed by a lovely Viet family. Now it's been taken over by Chinese owners and it's a whole dofferent story šŸ˜.

Cheap Asian restaurant with no air-conditioning and birds flying in and out since the door is always open. Food is okay but atmosphere is well below average, relatively dirty.

I got food poisoning from the chicken banh mi :( was up all night sick. The banh mi was the only thing I had eaten in the last 48 hours so I know that it was the chicken in the banh mi.

K: On a lunch break, my heart craved a Vietnamese homely special known as Com Tam which loosely translates to Broken rice with pork and egg. Stumbling across Saigon Fusion, I had seen in the menu that they offered such an option so of course I had to try.

What came out was slightly disappointing. Small portions, tough meat, lack of soup complimenting such a traditional Vietnamese dish and a decent serve of fish sauce. I enjoyed the meal however thought it was very average. Not homely nor authentic. I felt that taste was traded off by speed or an attempt at modern fusions which just did not hit the mark.

Wouldn't recommend this restaurant for authentic, homely Vietnamese food but for a quick value bite, it isn't so bad!

Food: 3/5
Ambience: 3/5
Service: 2.5/5
Value: 3.5/5

The Dear Luncher
Quite a small, rectangular shaped operation that doesn't look all that impressive. And we were off to a very shabby start when the wrong salad was placed in front of a very Hungry Dear Luncher. The lemongrass beef salad was requested, and instead of receiving that, it was a pork belly salad. The staff were apologetic and pushed out the requested meal not too long later. The swiftness was appreciated due to the hunger levels but also led to some wondering about how rushed it might have been.Ā

The salad was decent, but sadly it was not anywhere near the benchmark Vietnamese style salad The Dear Luncher has experienced before. There was very little of that fresh crunch and ZEST you often get with these salads. The beef looked a little below average, but tasted OK. All in all it was a tad deflating. Condiments of the usual Vietnamese variety were not found on the tables and no tap water available either. Compared to the countless similar eateries available to discerning Melburnians, Saigon Fusion still has some work to do.Ā

Great hidden gem in the city for spicy noodle soup! The chicken is great, but I prefer extra veggies and no meat. The veggies are always fresh and the soup is bursting with flavor! Great prices too!

This is a popular place during lunch time for those who work close by. I've been here a few times as I find their prices reasonable and food quite good.

I ordered my usual grilled pork with spring rolls on vermicelli. This is my go to dish for a filling lunch with two of my favorites : spring roll and grilled pork.

This time around though I found the food was still good but not as good as I remembered it to be. Maybe there has been a change in chef or owners? It's still a popular choice with local workers though and at $10 it is reasonable price and value for money.

Came here in the morning during my work break as they were one of the few places around opened at the time. I ordered the grilled pork and veggie fried rice with scrambled egg (an extra $1). The dish was average, nothing special. Must say I was a little disappointed by the lack of grilled pork, there seemed to be only a few thin small strips on top of the rice and nothing in between. Didn't end up finishing it as it was too bland, it was like eating plain rice. But I don't like wasting food so I figured I'd take it home and mix it with meat. They charged for the take away container, at 50c I didn't flip tables but I was very surprised as it's the first time I've ever been charged for a take away container before.. shocked especially as the food was very mediocre and it would've cost them nothing to make this dish with the tiny amounts of meat they used. Now I know why the other restaurants surrounding it (+39 pizzeria, little ramen bar, shanghai street etc) are always packed with lines out the door and this one is nowhere near as busy. Will not be back.

What a place! The banh mi is just so authentic and them OEM cracklings are out of this world! Don't forget to try the vermicelli too! Go for number 26, that's my old time favourite!

Admittedly I always get the same thing: the large roast pork sub with crackling and chilli, and it never disappoints. It seems to be their most popular item on the menu too. It's always made fresh and I have never had to wait any longer than two minutes for it. And the Lady that runs the joint is friendly and lovely too.

Delicious! I ordered a curry soup for vegetarians and received a huge bowl of yumminess for only $10.The staff were absolutely lovely and inviting, addressing everyone as 'friend' and creating a comfortable vibe. Music was also great, and the wide windows let in the sunlight and highlighted the street view, making the experience all the more enjoyable. My food arrived within four minutes. Cans of drink were two bucks which I thought was very good for the CBD. Will definitely be returning and recommending this to everyone. Wonderful!

I have previously been here before and has not once dissapointed me one bit. You know they serve excellent food if it's always busy. I'm going to try next door next time for variety, but this place has such a friendly atmosphere, staff and music it's a place you will come back to over and over again. Really good and cheap food for the cbd as well if I might add!!

Best pork roll in Melbourne Hands Down!!!! Believe the hype.
Haven't tried anything else. Would definitely return. Can't fault this place.

Wanted a quick lunch and next door Shanghai Street was packed so I decided to give this place a go. Ordered grilled pork and egg with some shredded veggies on rice. Everything was average. The rice was below average, being oily and a bit hard. Service was sub-par as well. Would not return.

Went there while being in a bad mood and not knowing what to eat. I have to say staff were very nice and helpful. I ordered Pork Chop and Fried rice and the Chicken and veggie no noodle. Chicken and veggie noodle was quite average and the pork chop was alright except the rice was not good it was quite hard ! (tried better fried rice on that price range). They recommended crab and prawn spring roll which was quite nice. If you are coming to eat a cheap lunch it is quite good although I like Rolld a bit more. If you want to spend more like me thirty something dollars just go to a more descent place and have 1 big main to share or something. For this price range not bad, might go again to try banh mi because it looked tempting.
Gee
Can't really fault this cheap and cheerful place. I've only ever had the banh mi (and plenty of them), but it's enough to bring me back regularly.

There is nothing wrong with this place right off of Elizabeth on Little Bourke. If you literally have $10 in your pocket come in and you will find plenty of options that taste great. The lady that works the front is super friendly and eager to please the customer. The food was freshly made and on point. I thought I ordered a hot soup but delightfully unexpected I had a cold rice noodle preparation but the pork and spring rolls were hot. I was given a sweet vinegar dressing that I was instructed to pour over the top and mix in. I also used the BBQ and Sriracha offered as condiments. It was delicious!!! Advertised as Vietnamese urban street food, all I can say is, yes please, I want some more!

The best banh mi in cbd! Loves the grilled chicken. I have been a regular for the past few months. Service is a bit slow if you eat the noodle soup but worth it!

I've been eating here for over 1 year .This is my favourite place in CBD .Food was nice and good value ,service was quick and friendly .....

Great vietnamese place in the city, will definitely be back soon!Ā Had the roasted pork (i.e pork belly cut up in pieces) and mini spring rolls on rice vermicelli noodles salad which comes with fish sauce to bathe all those yummy flavours. Everything was really nice and fresh, a large size was definitely the way to go although I had to fight with my three year old for the spring rolls. The owner even gave her an extra one on the way out as she liked them so much!

Love the roasted pork with crackling banh mi! Haven't tried to original Vietnamese one as I was too tempted for crackling but I'm sure to get one next time. Service there is super quick and friendly, and the food is well priced as well.

All the food here tastes great especially the rolls and salad bowls but the service is so so slow. I can never work out why it takes 5 staff 10 minutes to make a couple of rolls.

Great Banh Mi!. We went in without much expectations but were pleasantly surprised by the Banh Mi (which were reasonably priced for inner-city). The baguette was delightfully airy and crispy, and the fillings were excellent and flavourful (we had pork crackling and braised Tofu). We'll be back!

Best Vietnamese street food in town !! Very reasonable price and extremely good service by the lady boss ! Highly recommended !!!!

Great Vegetarian/Vegan Options. They offer decent veg options for most of their menu. Great veg Banh Mi, Great veg Pho with faux meats. I go here for lunch regularly. It seems like a pretty new place, All the attention goes to their neighbours so you get served quickly and you can get a seat.

Its a bit of a family run joint so you might get small children cruising around, but that's kind of cute.

Average pho. Unfortunately an extremely average beef pho experience for lunch. The broth was boring to say the least, the noodles were thick and weren't as silky as they should be, the cuts of meat weren't great, I only got a 2 rare beef slices, and they didn't taste right. To top it off the plate toppings came out after the soup and there was a mix up with my order. It was amatuer effort all round. Such a shame because the staff were lovely and I was hoping that Saigon Fusion may have quietly produced the goods. I'm sure they do some great meals there, but the beef pho is definitely not one of them.

Quick and reliable. Friendly staff

Expect a little wait for anything except the Vietnamese subs!

Cheap and delicious. I've eaten a couple of times here and always go back for the pork crackling banh-mi. It's YUMM!! Haven't tried their pho yet. But I would agree with others about their slow service. But it doesn't stop me from going back there. Staff are friendly.

Hygiene definitely questionable!!! Saw the "chef" stir frying veggies in the kitchen with chopsticks that she put into her mouth then straight back into the pan. Twice. Disgusting. Could not get out of there fast enough!
Hilary
Food service is way too slow. Reminded the staff for about 5 times an finally saw them making my order. If people are in a rush wouldn't recommend to come here.

Forgot about us!. Waited while everyone before and after us in line got their order. Simple misunderstanding I suppose, except it took them 30 mins and not at prime lunch hour (2pm) to get us our food. Had to remind them after each dish came out what they had forgotten!
Food was good at least (:

Great food fast. This is the place to go for good quality great tasting pork rolls and noodle soups. Fast service as well. Friendly staff. You can't get better.

Roast Pork Roll with Cracklings. A Banh Mi roll with roast pork and crackling skin filling

It was really nice, although if you have it too late (like you order it at around 4-5pm), thr roast pork will get greasy.

Delicious food. Had Vietnamese broken rice with 3 kinds of pork and Vietnamese iced coffee. Verdict good.. would appreciate if cutlery is placed for us instead of having to take it on our own,Price reasonable, Good portion. will come again..
Alistair
Where to start.... our order was forgotten after we had already paid for it. Two of the three meals were served in take away containers. The service was non-existant, the food was delivered sporadically and without cutlery.
The prices are inexpensive - but now I am so thirsty, and my face is hot and itchy.
I will not return.

Food is incredible, sooo cheap, nice front of house

There's a good selection of Vietnamese bread rolls - traditional, roast pork with crackling, pork chop, grilled chicken and a few others. The roast pork wasn't quite ready yet, so the man behind the counter recommended the pork chop.

They say that we are the company that we keep. Nestled between the old favorite Shanghai Street, and the newly popular Little Ramen, Saigon Fusion is almost destined to be a success. Just like the other two, the food here is very authentic, very cheap and very easy to like. I got myself a medium sized traditionalĀ VietnameseĀ rollĀ for $5.50, and had to make a conscious effort to not splurge another $6.00 for three rice paper rolls. The prices are just too irresistible!
