Review Golden Fleece Hotel - Melbourne

Patrycja Huczek
This place is amazing! Their food and service is unreal. They have options for every dietary requirement and their drinks and cocktail list is very extensive but delicious. They opened 2 weeks ago yet have an outstandingly great approach to everything, due to the current covid circumstances. This is Melbourne’s FIRST EVER Mykonos style pub and they have completely killed the aesthetic, food and service! Would highly recommend and definitely coming back! 10/10

Beautiful place to catch up with friends for a sunny afternoon. The moment when you walking in to the restaurant you will feel the strong 🇬🇷 personality. It blows your straight away to the blue and white Islands. The upstairs outdoor space is the best spot to seat. Every single details keep reminding you about the warm breeze from the Aegean Sea. There are plenty options of seafoods on the menu. Fired pizzas appear on every table, very popular. GFH is definitely not a typical local hotel style. What it created and offered are above and beyond. 👍🏻

Five of us came to the Golden Fleece Hotel for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. We ordered a different selection of entrees, pastas, drinks and cocktails. The food was delicious and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was lively. The upstairs bar and dance floor is a lovely addition to the place. Thank you Golden Fleece!

A really nice bar in South Melbourne with a fabulous roof top bar. I saw it on a travel show (Postcards) and decided to give it a try. Very reasonable pricing on food and is a must do if you're in the area. Close to South Melbourne market. Big thumbs up 👍 👌

One of the most aesthetically pleasing bars / restaurants i’ve been to yet! Although it looks great, i think there are a couple things they can improve on. This Mykonos inspired bar serves up Italian food. Firstly, i think the bookings could be longer! 90 minutes is a little short, especially considering the fact that we were there for dinner and wanted to have drinks as well. The wait staff could also be a little more attentive to us and the kitchen, it took so long to get someone to come take our order for dinner & since our table was right by the kitchen, i couldn’t help but notice the chef having to ring for service a couple of times. The cocktails were decent, but I heard a waiter say that most of them premixed! I wasn’t expecting this, i thought they would be freshly made to order. In saying that, i reckon $20+ for these premixed cocktails is a little expensive. Food wasn’t too bad, our table ordered beef tartare, pumpkin, feta & pinenut ravioli, vodka agro dulce, braised beef ragu, scotch filler and margherita pizzas. None of the dishes stood out a whole heap but we were too hungry to complain. There’s a dance floor upstairs with a DJ, outdoor area you see on TikTok (which we didn’t manage to check out as it was booked out for a private event, but can from inside that the area is very small) and a pool table. really good vibes and very aesthetic. Make sure you book ahead to avoid being disappointed! Especially if you are keen on checking out that outdoor area.

Place was beautiful, but because the place is not really huge, the noise level was very high. Service was not the best, and servers showed reluctancy when we request for something. But it may be because there was a bridal function then. Food was not memorable. Ordered: Great Bulls of Fire: 5/10

Such an awesome venue/pub, felt like I was back in the Greek Islands. Food was spot on - especially the pizza bases. Service by super friendly staff and a backdrop of modern street art. Can’t wait to go back again

Gave it a try for Sunday Lunch, a little rushed to order and the food was a mixed bag, the saganaki was crusty, the calamari was a little tough, fish was bland but the risotto was very tasty. Great staff and the place has been done up well. They do have my pet hate though, the old 10% surcharge on weekends plus the credit card surcharge, all in 3 point font on the menu. They're not getting life but a suspension is in order

Great place for the perfect weekend evening!

Went there with my wife last night, we have the spicy lamb with bread to share; I have steak with peppercorn sauce for main, cooked perfectly, and Parma for my wife is delicious and all 3 dishes are good servings .<br/><br/>Value for money and nice atmosphere. Be back soon.

Just had delicious Groupon dinner tonight with my partner.<br/>Service was good as well as the atmosphere in the bar bistro area except for one thing, and that was a poodle dog was inside the dining area which is a breach of health regulations and it's owner was sitting on one stool with a leg up on another stool as seen in the accompanying photo.

Went here on a Groupon and partner and I loved the food! <br/>I got the chicken Kiev which was amazing, juicy and tender and asked to swap the side dish and they were fine with it. <br/>Partner got the steak and he loved it! Enteee of calinari and the wings were amazing! Would have loved to try the dessert but there is always a next time ! <br/><br/><br/>Paid for salad on side which was a main although thought for a salad it was a little expensive but otherwise No complaints!
FOOD TRIP
The Golden Fleece is a great pub to chill out and grab a bite to eat. Plenty of seating both inside and out. Food was good but the mains were a bit overpriced. Entrees were great!. Eggplant Chips $12. Massive serve! Great to just snack on but the salsa that come with it was hard to dip with. More like you just had to scoop it out ★★★

I went to the Golden Fleece with work colleagues and ended up having to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for my meal. Best to get there with plenty of time.
The Hungry Vegan
A local gem for sure. Huge serving sizes, and vegan friendly upon request. I ordered the eggplant chips as a starter (the bucket of chips was basically the size of my head!) And the gnocchi for mains, which they were able to make vegan for me (originally with a bolognese sauce). The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Cant wait to go back!

Another pub review after another good feed! <br/>Firstly, I was introduced to “eggplant fries” today. I didn’t know they existed and certainly didn’t realise they could taste THIS good! Loved the crumb and loved the perfectly cooked eggplant within. The home made salsa to supplement gave it a good additional edge. <br/>The calamari entree was also cooked well. <br/>We had the scotch fillets for mains and although the sauce and potato wasn’t cooked to my liking, the meat was cooked wonderfully medium rare. It was soft and melted in my mouth. <br/>Hubby was happy with the craft beer on tap and I loved the friendly service. Keep it up guys!

Our second time to the Golden Fleece, and it was just as impressive as the first. Dani and the crew do a wonderful job. The GF comes highly recommended at around $40ph for 2courses + drinks

On a balmy night with wide open doors and dim lights complemented with candles created a lovely ambience. The chicken Palma and the steak were excellent. To top it all off friendly warm helpful service from the staff. Enjoyable night and we will be back.

This is classic pub food that caters to most, if not all. Burgers, Steaks, Fish and Chips; all of quality. There are some great specials too. The staff are energetic and attentive. Great beers on tap too. Highly recommended.

Held a function here for 30ppl, ordered off their main menu. Everyone in my party mentioned how great the food was. Major standouts were the duck, and the scotch fillet, both cooked perfectly. Scotch eggs also rated highly. Service was fast and friendly, all staff that evening were excellent. As a pub, definitely one of the better places I've enjoyed a meal and a few drinks. Facilities are well kept, modern, and everything clean as a whistle. Highly recommend

Have had 20+ lunches here over last year and always well looked after. More recently have noticed that prices have creeped up approx 20%, but that's cool - they did start very cheap to attract diners to start with. <br/><br/>Meal sizes however can differ on exact same order - one risotto/pasta/salad can be up to 33% bigger than another on table for example - & some ingredients have ever so slightly crept down a notch in quality, in particular their proteins. Most noticeably the steak & chicken.<br/><br/>Good spot for an icy cold beer & feed - can't fault it too much at all.

Why is it so quiet here?<br/><br/>Ultra modernly converted grand old pub, just check out the toilet. Upstairs for function and downstairs for dining, bar, and pool, it comes with an outdoor dining area too.  <br/><br/>Food is not as refined, although it has potential and comes in a generous size. <br/><br/>Full stock Bar with a great wine list that comes with a very pleasant and knowledgeable barman.<br/><br/>Enjoyable drive and dinner to South Melbourne.
Parma Daze
I'd happily pay another $24 for this parma for the quality of the schnitzel alone. The Golden Fleece runs a few special nights including a $15 parma night on Monday (Including the nude and the Mexi-parma) as well as some solid happy hours and other food specials - be sure to check their website for more info.<br/><br/>The Golden Fleece is a great little pub that was criminally quiet for a Thursday night (Granted it was about minus ten degrees outside, so that may have contributed to the hibernating patrons). The parma had a fantastic foundation that just fell short of the mark - I instantly regretted not getting the Mexican parma instead as I think the addition of those extra toppings would really make this bird a home run. <br/><br/>Worth a crack, But I'd say go for the Mexican over the traditional.

Recently had dinner here after a 10 year absence and we were delightfully surprised at the improved quality of the food!! Service and bar staff were great. Had entree and main and both our meals were well presented, tasty and fresh! We would definitely go back again!

Good quality pub fare , plenty of specials to pick from. We shared olives and the salt and pepper Calamari to start and then moved on to the Salmon and Crumbed Lamb cutlets. Worth a visit.

great cheap lunch specials, and good specials all through the week. great value and good atmosphere for a pub. the steaks have a charred grilled taste

Good quality food and not just your standard Pub Fare. Inviting Decor and friendly staff.<br/>Hand cut fries with a deliciously just charred juicy steak. Thick meat patty cooked all the way through and tender. Chicken Schnitzel breast Mexican style with beef chili sauce and jalapenos.  All meals looked and tasted terrific, with a great side salad/ veg. A good range of craft beers on tap. and lots of table options.

A quick work day pub lunch. Chef's platter hit the spot with beef skewers, calamari, garlic bread and some tempura mushrooms.<br/><br/>Fleece never disappoints.
Cristian
Surprisingly nice steak for a pub!<br/><br/>Plenty of specials during the week to try and its newly renovated so it looks beautiful inside, you can see a lot of work has gone into it. <br/><br/>Good selection of drinks too; will definitely be back to try some more dishes.
