Review Mabel Jones - Melbourne

Sean Otto
Very nice cafe. Food was great. Staff were very friendly but while standing around chatting they weren't watching customers trying to get their attention. Not many people eating in when I was there but the noise could get a little loud for my liking. Price was on the higher side for what we saw but it was nice.

Great place to grab breakfast or lunch. Staff are really friendly and the food is ALWAYS quality. A little bit to the expensive side for greensborough but you pay for what you get I guess. Keep it up guys kudos

Was treated to Brunch here by a local of the #3088 precinct and was blown away by the ambience, service and the food/coffee. Will be returning that’s for sure!

The cafe had a nice ambience with white furniture and heaps of greenery. The food and portions were really good. Highly recommend the baked eggs. Perhaps, the only thing that needs to be addressed is the entrance. The door needs a real kick to open. Hopefully, it's fixed real soon. EDIT: Great to hear the entrance is fixed.

We went to Mabel Jones for mothers day and to say we were utterly impressed was an understatement. The food was so delicious and value for money was impeccable. The staff are super friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable for my family. We cannot wait to come back !!

I come here most days for take away coffee. The coffee is definitely the best in the area and the staff are friendly. We have also eaten in many times as a family and enjoy the changing seasonal menu.

Slightly disappointed with our choice. I ordered the double cooked polenta with mushrooms & poached eggs. That was enjoyable but my partner's hamburger choice was bland & overpriced for the tasteless prepacked pattie (that's what it looked like). It certainly didn't look like a home made pattie & definitely needed flavour even a sprinkle of salt before cooking it. There's more flavour in a Hungry Jack's burger & cheaper! The older waitress forgot our coffees so when the young waitress came to collect our plates when mentioned our coffees. They hadn't been put through so we had them at the end when the food was finished. We did try to get their attention but they seem to be understaffed.

Always a great venue to catch up with friends for brunch. Good food, nice decor, can be a bit noisy sometimes, but still the best cafe in the Greensborough strip.

Came here for a quick lunch break. I got the mushroom and polenta which was really nice but I unfortunately found a hair in my food. I noticed some of the chefs had lengthy hair but with no precautions such as hair nets in place. As it wasn’t exactly cooked inside my food I continued to eat it. I kept the hair to show the waitress later just to inform them and the kitchen, so they can take more appropriate care and measures so it doesn’t happen to future customers. I didn’t expect a refund but was disappointed that there was actually no acknowledgment whatsoever, especially from the kitchen. An apology from them would have sufficed! It makes me reluctant in returning to this cafe as why would I, if getting a customers money appears more of a priority than providing adequate food hygiene and gaining customer satisfaction.

If you’re looking for a place with good food and great atmosphere, Mabel Jones is a great option. The menu boasts a range of delectable items whether you’re vegan, gluten free or just looking to indulge. The cafe is decadently fitted and provides a sense of tranquility. I’ll be coming back soon. Please just get rid of the black burger buns.

Have been to Mabel a few times, it used to be great, but has seriously gone downhill over the last few months. Went prior to Christmas, they had lost my booking & blamed it on the computer system, although I had email confirmation. Then we were told the kitchen was no longer doing food at 2.30pm, even though they close at 4pm. On this occasion the a/c also appeared broken/ completely ineffective. Tried again last week, not one, but three menu items were ‘unavailable’. Given the menu is not overly extensive, this severely limited our choice. Also we were not informed about the unavailable items until we tried to order them. Won’t be going back in a hurry.

Partner and I have been here a few times from all the positive feedback from others but again not a winner.

I had the peri peri scramble, it may be good if you’re feeling a winter dish but it was just too heavy and oily for me. The toast underneath was drenched in butter literally dripping off.

Partner had the “baked eggs” again butter drenched toast and oily dish, the eggs were cooked well but the Sufi sauce was overpowering and not really suitable for a breakfast dish but that could have been a wrong choice.

I came in around 11:30am on a weekday so not quite busy. I'll start by saying the decor is lovely and the coffee wonderful.

Unfortunately it was awhile before I was greeted (it wasn't busy and they did see me), and when I was the server asked if I wanted to pay for my meal. I awkwardly then had to tell her I'd just got there and wanted to have a meal and some coffee.

She asked where I wanted to sit and when I chose (a 4 seater near the window, having noticed there was at least 10 others 4 seaters free) asked me to sit somewhere smaller. I interred there was lots of space and she obliged.

The coffee arrived, again lovely coffee, but then when my scrambed eggs did they were terribly undercooked, so much so I had to ask for a replacement which I've never done before.

The new server was absolutely lovely and had them replaced quite quickly, the second lot were fine. If ironically a little dry now, but i get why.

I'm not writing this to deter anyone from eating here, having just moved to the area I was planning to make this my local.

There's just something missing about the quality of care with the greeting, service and food that I'm not sure about but may try again at another time hoping for new results.

Today 3 of my friends and 2 year old daughter had breakfast at your cafe.

We arrived 8:30am we had no one approach us to order a coffee for at least an half an hour.

Then had to wait anther half an hour for someone to come and give us a menu.
Then over 45 minutes for our food to be served.

In that time we had at least two couples been served and had food before we were approached by a waitress.

We went to pay at the counter the lady serving was so rude

In the past we have been able to split bills and asked if we could do so,
She refused that’s fine but her attitude was shocking.

I have loved in the past coming to Mabel Jones as I work in Greensborough shopping centre but now I will think twice.

I am truly disappointed with the service food and coffee was great.

Really nice space, open bright and good for groups. The coffee was good, and probably on the better end for the area. Nice service as well, so would definitely return.

I have been here a few times now for coffee only. The soy latte is so good. One of the best coffees I have had in a while. Great open cafe with a beautiful lay out.

Popped in for lunch with friends. Food was nice, service was good. Got charged a 15% surcharge for a public holiday, when it wasn’t actually a public holiday, which is a little annoying, but they did have a notice on the door, that we couldn’t miss when we came in, so kudos to them for making it clear *before* the bill arrived. :)

It’s a place once you enter and you don’t want to leave. It welcomes you with a great aroma of coffee. They have amazing choice of food and drinks. The staff makes a certain point to take care of you, even the restaurant is buzzing. This place just gives you special vibe.

Good service, friendly staff and lovely space. However I found it overpriced for what it is - a cafe in Greensborough.
I paid $18 for smashed avo on toast with a poached egg (singular) and this came on a single piece of toast! Talk about looking stingy on a ($18) plate .
Sparking mineral water with the black coffee was a nice touch though.
Would I go back? Only because a friend lives out there and she loves i.
Noodlelover54
The coffee here is actually really good - not just 'good for out in the suburbs' haha - actually really good. Also had some tasty food here too, like the fried chicken burger. Anyway definitely the best coffee and cafe in Greensborough, so worth checking out.
Jenna Brindley
Great food, fantastic staff/service and lovely ambience. The only issue is there is a new menu which some of the previous items are no longer there which is a shame. Otherwise will continue to keep returning.
Mary
Just walked in a few minutes ago to buy a soya latte. They told me the machine is closed, sorry. Yeah don’t advertise closing time at 4pm then.
Frank Smith
Nice place, great coffee and good food. A little pricey for Greensborough though. Oh .... you really should have 2 eggs in your breakfast meals. It’s a little stingy having to pay for the second egg 😳
Jezzybel
Huge place to dine in, very inviting and comfortable. But because it was huge it was very noisy. Food was good as was coffee. Portions were very big!
YummyKitty
We were heading into the city today so thought we would return to Mabel Jones. It was lovely last time (was newly opened back then). Today was appalling. Couldn't have my coffee the way I like it (had it that way last time) and water glasses were covered in lip gloss. Fresh ones were not resupplied until we asked again 10 minutes later. Coffees were ordered before food but only served just before the food came out. Coffee luke warm. Smashed avo dish was fine, eggs and bacon dish were ordered as over easy and came out rock hard. No one asked how the meals were, the staff attitude was so rude except for one older lady who was waiting on tables. Will never be back.
Jessicaaaa
Shocking coffee. Have eaten here three times and while the food is tasty and very well presented the coffee leaves a bad taste in my mouth (literally). It’s been undrinkable two of the three times I’ve been.

Sadly after my experience today I will not be returning. After being a very valued customer to Mabel Jones sister cafe I was surprised and disappointed that a alteration to my meal wasn’t allowed. I’m pregnant hence why I assumed there would be no hesitation to make a change to the meal that I AM PAYING FOR!
Food Perfection
The green smoothie was good but far too expensive.More vegan options on your menu would be good. The waiter who served us was friendly and displayed good customer service.More attention to finer details needed. My drink was delivered without a straw .I had to ask another staff member on her break for a straw, as there were limited staff nearby.
Foodiecritic
Great place and location, what a large bright place for venue, great food , burgers etc, have been for breakfast and a christening, and would recommend for both, only whinge we sat st front section and with coffee and smoothies machines going, very noisy, they need to use sound barriers

This place looks amazing, the decor and everything 💕 big heart ❤️ the staff is super friendly and professional 😌 happy happy 😆 it’s a crowded place, good to chit chat 🙋🏻‍♀️

Loved the bright and airy atmosphere. Good drink selection and lots of yummy goodies in the window if you just wanted coffee/cake. Great to see the inner city cafe vibes but maybe a little too overpriced for its location. I ordered the Mexi Bowl which was filling and had lovely fresh flavours. This would definitely be my pick again if I was in the area.

Visited Mabel Jones with a group of six people last Sunday for lunch, two of which were under 3 years of age. The little ones had scrambled eggs on toast and a chicken burger, both were really good and generous servings for kids meals.

I had the pork belly, which was a bit dry. The pork belly still tasted okay, but the rest of the meal was lacking in flavour and I couldn't finish the bed of lentils, it was just too bland. My husband ordered the adults chicken burger, which looked really good and he enjoyed it. The other two adults had the okonomiyaki, one regular and the other with pork belly. Both of them enjoyed their meals, except for one who didn't like a particular flavour in it, but I think that would be a personal taste issue and not the fault of the cafe.

My husband and I struggled to find much flavour with the housemade lemonade and raspberry lemonade; they had no sweetness to them at all and the plain lemonade really just tasted like soda water. I appreciate that home made lemonade is not meant to be as sweet as the stuff you buy from the supermarket and that's why I ordered the housemade lemonade because I don't normally like soft drinks, but I usually love home made lemonade. However, it just didn't cut the mustard for me.

I really like the ambience of this cafe and the staff were very accommodating and friendly without hovering around too much and we weren't moved along quickly, even though it was busy.

The thing that really let the visit down for me was the toilets. As soon as I walked down past the toilet sign, I could smell the toilets. They needed a clean and a freshen up, because if you were sitting around the toilet sign, it would put you off your food. When I went in to the ladies, there was quite a bit of toilet paper on the floor and it was just generally messy in there. One of the toilets had no toilet paper and the other was close to running out. I don't think they had been cleaned in a while, and I even if they had been cleaned recently, staff should be checking them regularly and keeping them clean.

I probably wouldn't go again for lunch, breakfast might be a better option, but I can still remember the toilet smell, so not for awhile.

Lovely staff and quick service, but I think there may have been a bit of a miscommunication on my visit. I asked for the vegan option of the Smashed Avo on the menu, and it came with a poached egg and butter on the toast (definitely not vegan haha)
Peanut Butter Cup
Beautiful cafe in the hub of Greensborough. Immediately greeted by lovely upbeat staff and served promptly. It’s so nice as someone who works in hospo to go to another cafe and get treated like this. Smashed the chicken burger in about 2 seconds and coffee was good. Prices are high BUT for all the right reasons because food is well prepared, fresh and leans more to a fine dining avenue 😊

Met some friends here for brunch on a Sunday and the place was quite busy. The service was good but the food was not great. It was pretty ordinary and was not up to the level of what it could have been. I could have whipped up something better in my kitchen.

We had coffee, lamb fillet and taste plate! Recommend lamb fillet! Great presentation and taste! Coffee is good too! Very pleasant brunch experience!

Uninspiring, tepid cafe. Such a limited lunch menu unless you want to do an overpriced all-day breakfast. A simple soup is $14. All the city wank in Greensborough. The best bit was the cakes and they are bought in - made by Little Bertha.
JB
Been here a few times now - seen a few menu changes but there is always something interesting. Smashed avo this morning and it did not disappoint. The coffee is always on point. No doubt we will return.

Probably a 4.5 I reckon... nice big cafe, great fit-out and a good vibe in the place. Had the pulled pork Benedict and it didn’t disappoint... on a rosti which I usually don’t like but it was big fresh and went well with the delicious pulled pork. Only one egg which is a bit strange but was well cooked... apparently used to have crackling with it which would have made it even better. Chilli scrambled were also very good... felt like they were Thai inspired... different but good.

I like mabel jones because the food is always fantastic, staff are friendly and the coffee hits the spot. However, when it's not busy the customers get forgotten by the staff and they spend a lot of time talking in between themselves not paying attention to the floor. Last time it took them 20 minutes to get our order... and the only reason they took it was because we called them over. The food is also too pricey for the portions that you get so be careful!

Last week I visited Mabel Jones in Greensborough and it had me feeling all kinds of ways. The place itself is cute as hell. Lush green plants and crisp white interior décor with an incredibly versatile seating chart to accommodate groups big or small. Expect a wait for a table, roughly 10 – 15 minutes depending on when you go. I ordered a skinny latte for myself and my friend, both of our coffees were delicious and arrived promptly.

For food, I ordered the Mushrooms & Hash w/ Haloumi and my friend ordered the Mabel Fry Up. Our dishes came quickly and they were well presented. The food wasn’t amazing, it didn’t knock my socks off – but it wasn’t bad either. My friend however wasn’t too impressed with her Fry Up and given another chance she said she would’ve ordered something else off the menu.

Halfway through my meal, I spotted a black hair cooked into my hash. I’m not too squeamish and tbh a hair in my food doesn’t really deter me. My mum used to say that a hair in your dish means the person who made the meal loves you – but I don’t think the Chef at Mabel Jones is my long lost love. Either way, I informed the staff of what happened, because I think it’s important in these kinds of situations to see how management responds.

The staff at Mabel Jones we’re incredibly apologetic and they informed me that they had removed my meal from the bill and that I was welcome to order another dish free of charge. I wasn’t really hungry at that point and I didn’t want them to make another meal for nothing, so I told them that taking it off the bill would be sufficient. When I went to pay my bill, the staff member at the counter apologised again and removed the two coffees we ordered off the bill as well.

I was really impressed with the dedication of the staff at rectifying the issue and the way in which they went about it. It’s an unfortunate instance that the one person that walked into their café with the intention of writing a review received the dish with the hair in it, but I guess that’s life. If you get a chance to check them out, let me know what your experience has been like
Portion size is great here in this large suburban cafe. The mushroom and hash was to die for, if only I had more room in my tummy to eat it all. The puree it sits on is fantastic just like the softness of the hash. The mushrooms were fresh and firm. Delicious.
The Mabel fryup was also large and came with all the trimmings! Perfect filling and tasty breakfast.

I ordered an iced chai, but it came out with ice-cream which I found odd. I didn't like it but it's okay.

The cold drop coffee is robust, lingering in the mouth and smooth.
Good Food Good Mood
I’d heard good things about Mabel Jones so I was excited to dine as a guest today. Having grown up locally it’s awesome to see a modern style cafe establish itself in the burbs. The Scandi like interior resembles that of any trending cafe in the inner city and the Axil coffee was a welcome sight. It maintains this sleek industrial vibe while also being family friendly with ample room to accomodate the many prams of brunching mums.
Food wise I ordered the coconut and chia pudding with gluten free granola and summer berries. This was a delightfully light option that was both tasty and healthy. I washed it down with a green smoothie (knowing I was going to be eating a dirty burger for dinner). A great summery and refreshing choice.
Other dishes at the table were the nourish bowl with pulled chicken, the southern fried chicken burger and the eggs your way which was customised with mushrooms and grilled haloumi. The cold drip was also highly praised by the serious coffee drinkers among us.
I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and can easily see how this became the stand out option for those in the area, but it is also well worth checking out as a destination in itself. Cakes catered by Little Bertha are always a good idea..

The poshest cafe in Greensborough but we’ve found some of the dishes hit and miss. Very expensive. Coffee is only ok. The place itself is gorgeous and bright. Lots of room for prams.

Their coffee is amazing and their cakes are house-made with lots of vegan and gluten free options. The breakfast and brunch options are many, I tried the ‘Pulled Pork Hash’ & my all time go-to dish ‘Smashed Avo’ on toast! The smashed avo had a beautiful balance of lime and salsa verde which brought the dish together. I always love a good Smashed Avo on some wholesome seeded toast!

I LOVED the Pulled pork Hash! The hollandaise sauce was so creamy and silky! Please check out my full review via the link below!

I was so excited to try Mabel Jones. Upon walking in was greeted by warm, friendly staff and a inviting, warm atmosphere. The actual layout of the cafe is impressive. Our party ordered the mushroom & hash, fritter and chicken burger. Each dish was not only presented amazingly, but also tasted delicious! The iced coffee had just the right amount of coffee and icecream to make it that much more creamy. Fantastic Mabel Jones, thank you!

the location is very convenient (near station, on main road), which gives the cafe an added bonus. Very spacious and decorated nicely. An incredibly nice place to go out for brunch

I had the breakfast roll, my partner had the pulled pork Benedict. Both enjoyed thoroughly! Food came out surprisingly fast. Great variety in menu as well as the standards i.e. smashed avo, big breaky etc., and 'build your own' type option. Fresh fruit smoothies, milkshakes and plenty of other drink options. Coffee was done perfect too. Saw some high chairs around, kid friendly. Prompt service, friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back to try the other menu options!

Mabel Jones has a funky fresh decor. A good selection of cakes and pastries. I felt very welcome when I entered and was served immediately. Takeaway coffee and a brownie. The brownie was very small, and at $4.90 I was hoping it was really delicious. Unfortunately it was very average. And didn't taste the freshest. The coffee was good. I would go back, but not for brownie!

Always delicious! Great brunch spot with lovely bright atmosphere & lots of room. Fabulous coffee & lovely seasonal menu. Highly recommend - definitely the best cafe/restaurant in the neighbourhood.

Loved their hot chocolate and perfectly grilled calamari. The seared tuna with quinoa, i like too. I guess i like the food combinations on their menu that is not usually common.

So much larger than meets the eye this cafe/restaurant wraps and opens up to a fresh, neatly presented dining area. Big open windows let the light in making it open and inviting. I just popped in for a small flat white with Paul and it was worth the visit. Big car park out back, conscientiously and easy access for a quick coffee or feed. This place may have the best coffee in Greensborough. Strong coffee hit, I highly recommend Mabel Jones!

Came here for an early lunch. Absolutely lovely inside and spacious. Open kitchen and lots of natural light which is always nice. Coffee was beautiful and so was the food. Would of liked to have seen a bit more on lunch menu. Service was friendly. Would be interested in seeing what dinner here is like... looks kind of expensive and not many options. Will be back again!

First time coming here. The staff were very lovely. It was a really relaxing atmosphere and had beautiful lights on the ceiling. I had a southern burger, which was amazing and a nice portion. Will be returning.

I have been here twice as it's almost my local. The coffee is quite nice albiet on the small side but the food so far hasn't made me super excited to come back. Standard menu with expected items - to my utter disappointment they recently took off the baked eggs which is my go to. Interiors are good especially the off set coffee area where you can get a coffee whilst waiting for a proper table - this was a good idea. Didn't take any photos on my recent visit but this was of their original baked eggs which I'd love to see back on the menu!

Went for dinner on a Friday night a couple weeks ago. Booked for 7pm, restaurant was empty apart from 2 other tables, we were seated next to the window and it was freezing, we asked to be moved as we were cold and they moved up to another table next to a window again :/ Waiters were nice but the food was disappointing. Ordered 2 x small meals, croquettes and pulled pork burgers, pretty yummy, then we ordered 1 x big meal to share, the Chicken, disappointing as it was very oily and greasy and not well presented. We ordered a side (the mash potato with chicken jus) as the chicken comes by itself. It was more of a soup than a mash. Completely liquid, needed a spoon to be able to eat it. Very oily, did not feel great after the meal.
Have had brekky there before and it was nice, but I'd give dinner a miss.

Awesome place! Caters to my whole family. Portions are great. Service is good. Lovely atmosphere. The coffee is amazing, especially the single origin specials they have on rotation.

We visited Mabel Jones around 12 noon on a Saturday and fortunately did not have to wait for a table. This was the second time I've visited this cafe.
The first time I visited I ordered the corn fritters dish and thought it was tasty and satisfying, hence the return visit.

This time round, I ordered the mushroom & hash dish, and while I enjoyed the mushrooms I found it was quite oily which had made the hash soggy. The other photo was a special, chicken pie which was good.

The cafe decor is nice and there are large glass windows so you get a lot of natural light. I'd still revisit this cafe if I'm in the area, though may just choose another dish instead :)

Child Friendry cafe and comfortable large spaces whole outside view through glass wall on the corner of the hill. Sweet fluffy pumpkin pancake would be the best choice for me. Coffee is proudly using Axil fresh coffee beans which has beautiful blend with excellent taste.

We were super excited when we got to know that Mabel Jones has finally open for dinner service. We went on a Saturday night & the place was very quiet, which was surprising. For entree, we ordered cauliflower & corn fritters. For main, ordered charred chicken & chips separate.

Sorry guys but the food was not up to standard, my partner was shocked when the food arrived. Presentation was poor, cauliflower fritters were burnt & chicken had no salad ( just the half chicken on plate) . Paid $25 for only the chicken which wasn't even great. $9 for the fries were too much as well. Coffee at the end was nice. Really disappointed because you guys do good bfast & brunch.
Amy
Have been a number of times for breakfast and lunch and never disappointed. Friendly, attentive staff. Delicious food. Standouts are the avocado on toast for breaky and gnocchi for lunch.
Went for dinner last night and it was super tasty! Menu is designed for sharing, we got 2 "smalls" and 1 "big" between 2. A few little areas that can be improved - not nearly enough aioli with the fritters (easily rectified with the waitress happily bringing more) and beef brisket only just warm (again, easily and happily rectified by the staff).
We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Pleasant surprise and a cut above other cafes in the neighbourhood. Great service, and well presented and delicious meals. Nab a spot by the window and enjoy the view of the houses on the hill, feels miles away from Greensborough!
Hungry Catepillar
Very nice cafe in Greensborough. Well appointed dining that is spacious and chic. Service is friendly and attentive, coffee is really good and food was lovely.

Great coffee, modern cafe interior with interesting breakfast menu if it was a little brief. For lunch the changing burger menu is a favourite each time

Mabel Jones is situated in a very unassuming Greensborough street but walking in you are immediately hit with the large space similar to something you would walk into in Fitzroy. Food was delicious (a tad bit on the exxy side) and coffee was great too.
Sophie
Mabel Jones has a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff and a great use of natural light, HOWEVER the quality of execution when it comes to food orders is not up to scratch.

I have visited Mabel Jones twice. On the first occasion I went with my mother where we ordered the smashed avocado to share with a side of mushrooms, hollandaise sauce and an extra egg for $2.00 (as the meal only comes with one egg). When our meal came out we noticed two eggs on a separate plate, now we didn't think anything of it. Then the bill came and it was itemized with 'eggs with a side of toast (minus the toast)' at $7.00. Mum and I thought for an extra $5.00 or $3.00 if they charged $2.00 per egg was not too much of a hassle, we put it down to a mistake.

Which leads me to the next time I went. I took a friend with me, order two serves of eggs on toast and we both added extra sides; one being the double smoked bacon at $4.00 each. We ate, went to pay the bill and realized on the docket it said 'thick cut bacon' at $5.00 each. Now this wouldn't bother me usually, however it is the second time I have been and both times I have paid for something I did not order.

The food was lovely, staff inviting however I can't help but think in both these instances it wasn't a mistake just purely a money making scheme. I know it was only a few dollars, but to happen both times I have been I was not impressed to say the least. Won't be coming back unfortunately.
Armin Muminovic
Been here twice and both times hasn't disappointed. The fit out of Mabel Jones is modern as some of the better cafes in Melbourne. Had the avocado with poached eggs on sourdough with added mushrooms. It's a bit on the pricey side for some avocado on toast but I guess that's where everyone is at these days.
I must say it was pretty tasty and enjoyed it very much.
Do yourself and try it when in the area.
Bailey Austin
lovely warm environment with welcoming staff, food is presented beautifully, will be returning to try out some other things on the menu 👌🏽
Joey_kate83
Yummy food and friendly service. Pea smash was yummy and coffe strong and hot. Lots of convenient parking near by and love being able to split bills. Only complaint is not being able to book for less than 8 ppl

Delicious meal! We had a brunch here, I ordered the pulled pork Benedict which was full of flavour and my sister had the truffle omelette, both meals were delicious but filling. Both lunch and breakfast menus run all day which is a great idea! Cool quirky atmosphere and super friendly staff. Service was quick and coffees were well made. Will definitely visit again :)

I love this place, the best coffee in the area by far, they use Axil coffee roasters. The food is always on point and exciting, it's nice to finally have a decent café in Greensboro. The café itself is quite large and great for families with prams or groups of people, as there's plenty of room to move around. I love sitting and watching the kitchen work their magic with it all being open plan. You have to check out their homemade cakes too, on the counter, I can never leave without one.

Whilst my visit to Mabel Jones was good it wasn't anything special. My chai latte was lovely and sweet, not the typical powder stuff but the sticky pot type. My lunch however was fairly mediocre. I got the pork thingy and it was just bland and unappealing. This was MONTHS ago however and I really need to come back and pay another visit!
Steph
First thing I noticed when I walked in was the amazing interior design and look of the cafe. I'm a Greensborough local and this was so unexpected (more like what you'd see in Collingwood or Abbotsford). The service was lovely and fast. The food was great too! My partner enjoyed the 'bear essential' and I had the 'ricotta hotcake'. The flavours were great but the only flaw was the sizing. I would've loved more hotcake. There was t enough in comparison to the toppings (they were almost too sweet and overbearing). But all in all, we'll be back!!
Pat
Lovely staff, great coffee, fresh and open aesthetic and feel. The cost of the food is a little high compared to the portion sizes, although I can see where it comes from as it is fantastic food with great flavours you don't normally find in every cafe.
Lana Mclachlan
Food was spot on! Cherry ripe hot cakes and crispy chicken burger 👌🏼 Our waitress Clair was really bubbly and cool! Great friendly service, will definitely be coming back. :)

Caramel chilli pork belly was incredible and full of flavour. The chips were great also. All of our meals were perfect. The mark down on points was for the coffee. Honestly, I asked for iced coffee and all they had was "6 hr cold drip coffee"... it wasnt awful but its unnecessary and so small for the amount it cost. Just felt like cold coffee with a fancy name.

Had a very pleasant lunch here today. From the front the cafe doesn't look too big but it is actually quite spacious with an industrial theme throughout. Service was also very friendly and super speedy.

Most importantly however, the coffee was quite nice and the food very tasty.
Had the salad with quinoa, vegetables and pumpkin purée which was a winner for me, maybe just a little on the salty side for my liking but otherwise, great. Other meal at the table was a pea smash (unpopular opinion perhaps but I vastly prefer this to the avocado alternative) which had a lovely mint flavour, served with chilli and goats cheese. Again, another winner.

Overall, a much needed addition to the food scene in the area and will definitely will be coming back here again for coffee, lunch or breakfast.

Great food, great staff, reasonably price!

Went here on a Sunday morning after 3 other cafes were too full for us. So we took the chance and it has become our new go-to.

Having lived in the area for a while now, I had no idea this place even existed until a friend of mine took me here for breakfast on a Sunday.

Having read the reviews, I was a bit worried that we would have needed to make a booking but we were fitted in without a problem. I did see some people getting moved though to accomodate more patrons - this is just weird, and I can't understand why a place would do this particularly when they are telling you where to sit in the first place.

This is a welcome addition to the area, with some more unusual and fun options on the menu besides the regular (dare I say, boring?) options most places nearby offer. The addition is so welcome, I actually followed up the visit within a week.

First time, I had the pea and mint smash. It was huge. To the point where I didn't really want to finish it, but I did. It was good, and I know this is silly to say, but when it says mint it's means mint - a little too much perhaps. Next time, I had the baked eggs and meatballs. This was pretty good and cheesy (bonus points for the cheese).

Will definitely be coming back here, great atmosphere, friendly staff and food was delicious, barista makes a good latte to, placed was packed on Sunday which you would expect.

Huge premises in convenient location. Very friendly staff. Food is excellent although I was expecting a bigger serve with my delicious duck. The coffee blend should be less acidic, from my point of view.

The food amazing been a few times now. Wait staff friendly and helpful. Very busy, expect to line up on a weekend. Last visit only 2 of us, we were told there were no tables for 2 left. We could sit at a bigger table (4 chairs) but if they needed agree to be moved, or wait for a smaller table to be available. Is my patronage not enough any more that if the "Tetris" of cramming everyone didn't work they can move me mid meal. There was still plenty of the bigger tables available. The rule should be you sit me you leave me. We weren't moved but they never filled up.

This place is a very welcome addition to the area - reliably good coffee and everything on the menu is divine. My friends and I returned for a third time to finally try the banana bread with caramelised pecans (after working our way through the other menu items), and to our horror the menu had changed!!! Nonetheless, all of our choices were lovely.

It fills the gap for a decent breakfast place in Greensborough. Coffee was great, but the food was a little disappointing but I would try something else if I were to go again.

Absolutely the best cafe for food and coffee in Greensborough, the northern suburbs of Melbourne, and possibly one of the best in Melbourne itself! Quality baristas pumping out Axil beans black, white and third wave brewing as well. A truly impressed former cafe owner and barista writing this review!

A kitchen that runs like Swiss clockwork serving up great dishes with a twist such as the Pulled Pork Benedict. Service is outstanding. A wonderful and friendly team. My workplace coffee spot, my weekend brekky spot!

This week I enjoyed what was easily one of my top 5 dishes of the year and surprisingly it happened on a trip to Greensborough. Located on busy Grimshaw Street, Mable Jones provides northerners with a great reason to dine locally. Offering friendly service, good coffee and a menu that is nicely balanced between classic and contemporary dishes, why travel to the city when there is a great option right on your doorstep.

Hmmm ok for G'borough. Service was hit and miss, some aloof waitstaff. I had the ricotta hotcake and it was rubbery. Coffee was fine. Hopefully this place improves.

Clean and crisp, Mabel Jones’ interior was refreshing. We were some of the first customers early on a Thursday morning, so we had no trouble getting a seat. I was torn between the Pulled Pork Benedict and Standard Smash, but chose the latter with an Iced Chai while my boyfriend ordered The BEAR Essential and Iced Chocolate. Our meals were fairly quick to arrive. The goats cheese and dukkah added a unique flavor to the Standard Smash. Back in Perth, I’m used to my smashed avo being slightly sweetened by tomato, balsamic glaze and feta, whereas Mabel Jones’ take on the classic was more on the sour spectrum. I also had a bite of The BEAR Essentials, which was devine. I’m a sucker for a good aioli and relish so it ticked my boxes. I did notice my boyfriend struggling to find an efficient way of eating it. Definitely more of a use-your-hands meal than a knife-and-fork kind. By the time our drinks came out we’d already finished our meals, which was a bit weird. Both our Iced Chai and Iced Chocolate were a bit of a disappointment because the ratio between milk and flavouring was out. We might’ve been drinking milk on the rocks and it wouldn’t have been any different.

Very nice inside, bigger than I thought, staff were very helpful, but to be honest menu was the same as every other cafe. My hot chocolate was cold, so they were good enough not to charge me.

Mabel delivered on my high expectations yet again! Pulled pork Benedict was recommended by the waitress and I was glad she did so, perhaps the hash brown was slightly under cooked and abit more hollandaise sauce? Am I being picky? Why don't you get down and judge yourself!

Finally somewhere trendy to go to in the north! Not the best baked eggs I have had, but they were still good. The size of the cafe is really big so we had no trouble getting a table on a Saturday morning. They do take bookings so next time I will book as this cafe is becoming a lot more popular. Service was just ok

Cappuccino with a friend who has visited previously, now know to order your coffees strong otherwise they are a little weak. Nice ambience. Went to the Lou , one out of two ladies had a broken seat, lock did not work on door, no soap left, both hand dryers had "out of order" signs.

Nice coffee. $5 for a strong 3 shot flat white. Which is on par for pricing. Nice little set up. The sweets look great. Good pricing as well. Close to a car park which is handy

I've been to Mabel Jones a few times now, and it's consistently an enjoyable experience. They seem to change the menu up pretty frequently so there's always something new to try. Being one of the only decent places in Greensborough, it's always super busy. So be warned: the chefs don't take kindly to requests for menu alterations.

On my most recent visit, I had ricotta hotcakes with rhubarb purée and candied pistachios - so delicious and so rich. I loved the edible flower. The coffee, as others have pointed out, is not that great. Drinkable, but it could be better. Other than that, no complaints.

Amazing service, good vibes. Though since last year they’ve got rid of their avo smash which is a brunch staple, there isn’t a big breakfast you have to construct one yourself costing $20+ if you wanted it.

Absolutely sensational. Had our first visit To Mabel Jones today and now we can understand why the line to get in has always been present. My wife had the pulled pork benedict, my daughter had kids egg on toast with bacon and I had the avo smash with bacon, we all gave the meals 10/10. My wife even commented that her breakfast was the best she had ever had. Enough said. I'd love to keep this place a secret but they deserve a huge compliment, definately our new breakfast/lunch favourite. A++

I have nothing to complain about from my visit to Mabel Jones! We had a booking for Father's Day and were promptly seated upon arrival, with the friendly and attentive waitress passing by every few minutes to check if we wanted coffee/were ready to order. The food arrived quite quickly considering how busy it was, and all dishes were thoroughly enjoyed by the group. Coffee is also great.
Just a lovely place with a great menu, friendly staff and nice interiors. Reasonably priced as well. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you find yourself in the northern suburbs!
Chris
I've been here twice and I'm growing to like this place more and more. The benedict is a little on the underwhelming side when it comes to portion size but the taste was great. The smashed avo was generous with the avo but I wish they served it with two eggs instead of one. The coffee is very good and I've ordered a second latte each time. The cafe itself is pretty on trend, and the big windows are lovely but I'd add a bit more warmth to the place with some warm lights and soft textures. The walls are bare and it feels a little clinical. The prices aren't exactly cheap but pretty on par for a trendy cafe. About $30 for a meal and two coffees. The service is friendly and attentive. I'm in the area quite often and I think I'm going to be making a visit to Mabel whenever I get the chance.

Nice bright and airy place. Unfortunately that makes it very very noisy.
Coffee is no better or worse than anywhere else around, however if you like it better than luke-warm ask for extra extra hot. That's when you can finally track down the staff...
Menu looks good, and interesting, but the food itself was all vaguely sweet. I had their burger which was tasty, apart from the jam- it was meant to be relish, which made it annoyingly sweet. The pulled pork also tasted like it had sugar in.
Perhaps we were just unlucky, but do try it, especially if you have a sweet tooth.

Went back- The coffee this time, was hot but DISGUSTING- it was so bitter and almost salty, I drink it black and almost had to put sugar in to make it drinkable. The mushroom hash was almost invisibly small on the plate, nota good thing at that price. The hash brown had become soggy because of the tasteless slime it sat on, and the mushrooms themselves were leathery. The whipped goats cheese was delicious!!
I'd recommend walking further up the road...

This place looks great, but the service was dreadful on my first visit there yesterday. I had previously been told that they had many options for 'dairy free' cakes. On my visit there was one - orange cake - which I ordered with a coffee. The coffee came fairly quickly, (which tasted fine, but could have been hotter,) but the cake failed to arrive. When the waitress came to ask if I wanted another coffee, I said the cake hadn't arrived. (I had finished my coffee by this point.) She then asked if I wanted to pay at the counter and take the cake home! I declined. No apology from her on the missing cake. When I went to the counter to pay, I again said the cake hadn't materialized, again no apology. Not impressed.

Walked in and there were no tables free so we waited, for no longer than 10 minutes. All staff seemed very welcoming. Sat down and not long after ordered coffees and food. One downfall was that we received the banana bread 15 minutes prior our two coffees.. would have liked for them to come out together. Must say though, the banana bread is to die for, perfect combination of ingredients. Highly recccomend and will be back for more!! :)

The pulled pork benedict seems so wrong for breakfast, but is so good. Friendly staff, and decent coffee. Can be ridiculously busy, but it deserves to be. Long live the trend of inner north Cafes opening their sister cafes in the outer north east.

Been here multiple times now and coffee has always been good. However, banana bread is a very tiny serving size as is the smashed avo. I also ordered the fritters last time I was there. Not the usual fritters I normally get elsewhere, more like falafels and not that good!
I Just Enjoy Food
Many thanks for making my birthday breakfast so special-drove past a few weeks ago & saw a group around your big table at the front & new that's how I wanted to celebrate. That's such a beautiful table-so much space. Great if you have kids with you to keep them away from other patrons=everybody wins! Lovely service, let us split the bill (although the person i paid did seem bothered by something-only reason for the -.5) beautiful food, everyone had something different but everyone was happy. I had okonomiyaki & it was divine. Beautifully balanced flavours. Lovely coffee too. Pretty good value for a special meal. Oh & thank god there's somewhere to eat with a clean spacious toilet!!! Thanks very much.

Just happened on this cafe recently. Very interesting menu with nice interior, and excellent friendly service. As a previous review, can recommend the blue swimmer crab okonomiyaki, beautifully presented and tasty. A friend had the cauliflower tempura which looked great on the plate and was also very good. If there is a negative it would have to be the noise level. Food was great and well priced.
