Review Ba'get - Russell Street - Melbourne

I was after a Vietnamese baguette and this place has baguette in its name so I thought that might a clue on what they specialise in! From what I’ve read, they bake their own bread which is lightly toasted when you order one. There is a small area for dine in which is handy, I did notice that the tables had a lot of bread crumbs scattered, once biting into mine I could understand why! The bread is very soft and has a slight chew, with a nice crusty outer shell. I ordered the grilled chicken banh mi which came with marinated chicken and pickled and fresh veg and herbs. It was a good size for lunch, for $9, not bad on pricing considering it’s based in the CBD.

I ordered the Broken Rice with Crispy Pork. I was sceptical about it, but it blew away my expectations. The onion oil rice was very flavoursome; the crispy pork was perfect and the hoisin sauce was the ribbon on top. I've also ordered the vermicelli and banh mi previously, and have always left very satisfied. The service is always friendly and fast, and the aromas in the restaurant are very inviting.

The less unhealthy option among all the fast food restaurants in the CBD. Food is tasty, the restaurant is very clean and the staff are always great.

Goooooood food yummy Bit too pricey but it's a good alternative to rolld and other of the like

This is our favourite place to grab rice paper rolls from in the city and their bahn mi is always so fresh, with crispy yet soft bread. It tastes like a lot of love goes in to their food. Really good value for money; we just wish they were open later so we could grab something light on an evening for dinner.

Ordered many times here. Absolutely love their Banh Mi and Rice paper rolls. Dropped my airpod there once and after a long time, staffs still kept it for me. Very friendly staffs with good food. Just the vermicelli needs more fish sauce since 1 pack is not enough for me 🤣

The food was tasty, very friendly and welcoming staff, love it

Good location and super simple ordering with service. The pork and chicken rice / noodles was quite nice with fish sauce.

Service was fast and food well prepared . The only thing was the viet coffee $4 and not even full glass . About 60-70%.

I can't get enough of this place. They have great rolls, with your choice of meat. I love the crispy pork belly roll, which is massive and has great taste to it. They throw in some pickled veggies to add some flavour. I was actually pretty happy with the price, only being $9 - $10, seeing as other places like these can go up to $15.

Cheap, quick and tasty! The bread was the highlight, super soft and super crunch, real good quality. The tofu filling was average but the filling combination was good. Overall good value, but such good tofu tofu.

I came here for lunch. It was fairly busy, but they have such an efficient production line going, that I was served really quickly. I had the mixed ham banh mi with extra pate and the pork and taro spring rolls. The bread was crusty on the outside and super soft on the inside. They use really fresh ingredients as well. The pork and taro spring rolls were good, but the banh mi was definitely the highlight. This will be a regular lunch spot for me.

Fast service, reasonable price. Bread roll was nice and crusty. Grilled pork was good and quantity of meat was good. Overall happy with it all.

I love the bowls at this place, always fresh and fast. Add a fried egg to make them even better. And these guys take me seriously when I ask for extra chilli and I LIKE IT

Came here the other day with a friend I know who usually grabs a pork banh mi for lunch. They were doing a promo for half price bowls through an app called "hey you." I got the "grilled chicken" bowl and fish sauce and was pleasantly surprised. Delicious. The guy at the counter was really great as I had no idea what to get. Good price for the service and the speed, as well as the salad taste.

Popped in Ba’get on Russell Street since I have my Entertainment book Buy 1 Get 1 Free voucher. I was welcomed by their friendly staff member, he also gave me suggestions and shared their few popular dishes 👍🏻

🍔 Food 4/5 ⭐️
- Ordered the Grilled Chicken Vermicelli
- My bowl was filled with vegetables, grilled lemongrass chicken and peanuts + shallots. Pretty healthy and those who loves salad will love this dish.
- They were generous with the chicken meat! (although it’s not visible in the photo).
- You get to choose the sauce - go for the fish sauce! Don’t get turned off by the smell of it because it taste so goooood 😋

👯‍♀️ Service 5/5 ⭐️
- Served with friendly faces in the store! Service was quick and attentive. Big thumbs up 👍🏻

💰 Price $
- The vermicelli bowl was $12. The price is fair for CBD standards given the portion is good.

💰 Tip 💰
Remember to use the Entertainment book if you’ve got one and you get your second dish for free!

Overall verdict ✅✅
Good service and tasty food for a fair price! Food gets served fast - will be my go-to Viet restaurant if I quickly need a good bowl of vermicelli.

Catering for all types of functions; weddings, birthdays and work meetings! Great range of packages found on the websites with great prices and delivery options!

Very nice banh mi place! It was right under our Airbnb so I figured why not give it a try? I love the original filling banh mis, so I always judge based on how generous they are with the fillings. This was very good, I loved the taste and they were generous with the pâté. I did not like how crumbly and dry the bread roll was however, as it was the only downside.

I also got a drink and a rice paper roll to go with the banh mi, and I was very happy with the poached chicken rice paper roll. For $15 it was a full meal and I will definitely be coming back for more in the future!

Crusty bread roll filled with fresh ingredients, delicious salad roll option for quick lunch 😋😋 If you're not into bread rolls you can make it into a vermicelli salad 😁😁
Some Bunee Loves Food
Ordered the grilled meatball banh mi, vietnamese cassava cake, vietnamese sesame donut and pork and taro spring rolls from Uber Eats. The banh mi was crunchy and full of filllings - the meatball was ok only. The cassava cake was average, the sesame donut was ok, the best thing out of this order was the pork and taro spring rolls - taste was great. Taro and pork meat worked really well together.
Quinn
I think they really do the justice for vietnamese banh mi. My Japanese friend was really happy with his order. I’d recommend this place for a quick lunch

Good for a bahn mi craving. Got the meal deal with a drink and snack as well. Really good value. Can see me coming back just for the viet coffee in summer!
Stahrrtrail
No good. Got the tofu banh mi which had soggy, gluggy oily tofu lining the roll. This had to be removed to deem the pickled carrot, butter, caramalized onions (weird) cucumber and chilli roll edible. Expensive at $9 for a very unauthentic salad roll. Won’t be returning.
Spaghetti Monster
Delicious Vietnamese banh mi rolls, bowls and rice paper rolls. Great friendly and polite service too. I usually get the crispy pork baguette (for an extra $1 it's worth it imo) which is delicious. Crispy roll on the outside with plenty of flavoured pork, salad and chilli on the inside). For $10 in the heart of this city is great. Always plenty of people but super quick service so you don't wait long. Highly recommend.
Daniel
The taste of the Classic Meat banh mi varies and never really consistent. I’ve been here a few times and each time it tasted different. My banh mi today had so much soy sauce that it was burning my lips. The pork puff was delicious the first time, but today, it was so dry and stale. If I am paying the same price, it’ll be good if the product is consistent.
Princeofharts
Disappointing in my experiences. Been here two separate occasions, both at lunch time. Both times my orders were taken, paid for and then I become advised that they had run out of food. I ordered 3 rice paper rolls and a baguette in the most recent visit. No apology, no explanation. This was just after 1pm on a Monday.
Add to this, the staff was unable to refund to the same payment as well... so I left without food and without a credit card refund :/
I’d be happy to discuss further with the restaurant if they’re willing
Catherine Nguyen
I was curious about their 'freshly baked' bread and gave it a go. I have never paid more than $6 for a pork roll so $9.50 for the basic classic pork roll was definitely a test. The bread was ok, it wasn't particularly 'fresh' but it wasn't stale. The most disappointing part was how dry the whole thing was, with minimal fillings the dryness was very apparent. Flavours were there though. I had half 'fresh' and the other half about 3 hours later and got to say the bread was as 'fresh' as I had it 3 hours ago. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Needless to say for $9.50 this was extremely overpriced.

I've been here so many times before.

Their tofu vermicelli salad is amazingly good though i feel like this dish is pretty much westernised. But again, I could never find anywhere else with that standard. I wouldnt mind paying more for it tbh.

The banh my is not bad. I really enjoy it but like others said i think its quite pricey (there are many other places that do better banh mi at much cheaper price).

I just kinda hope they extend their opening hours. The store closes really early every day - i could only visit it over the weekend.
Chey_ct
I've been here a few times and the staff is awesome! The banh mi is nice but I think it's quite overpriced for what it is and there are better banh mis out there for less money. The bread is crispy but not hard, however, the fillings are a bit lacking. I do like the Vietnamese salads though which I think are better value for money.
Flash Backward
Was pretty good.

Enjoyed the crispy pork and meatball baget.
Took a while longer but I respect the fact they took the time to remove peanuts from the baget (allergies).
The price point is a bit dear (at $8-10) as predominantly Vietnamese rolls are very cheap, so that hurt a bit.

Edit: in response to comment, I don’t care if you’re ‘not in a race to the bottom’ I am saying I don’t think your product is worth the price you are pricing it at.
Keith Lawrence
It's the bread that's the main problem with the banh mi (same at the Elizabeth St branch so I assume it's company policy). Bread is baked and then reheated - overly crumbly crust that deflects from the pretty good fillings inside (the classic pork or crunchy pork is always hard to vary when ordering banh mi). It's OK but a long, long way from the best.

And the place itself is soulless and anodyne.
Flying Forward
I can always depend on Ba'get for crusty banh mi. It's surprisingly common to get the banh mi from other places and it's slightly soft on the outside and disappointing.
Ba'get bake the rolls fresh and lightly reheat the rolls so the crunch is always satisfying.
I grew up eating this stuff, and it's come a long way from the questionable $2 rolls back in the 90s, so it still slightly pains me to pay $8+ for a roll.
They have the classic cold pork meats, but also, you can't go wrong with grilled pork/chicken, meatball or crispy pork.
Kelly Belly
Although the Banh Mi baguettes are fresh and crusty, the fillings are sadly lacking. My crispy pork was more fat than anything else, with very little pickled carrot, coriander and chilli filling. Won’t be rushing back here.

Came here for lunch w a colleague last wk and am surprised at how good the foods are. Prices are good. Even better when i got specials via the entertainment book!

Customer service was fantastic. Friendly and quick.

Location not too far from Bourke st. Can fit a small number of people but takeaway looks like a really good idea also as we didnt have to wait that long cor our dine in meals.

Colleague got the grilled chicken w vermicelli and it looked really fresh and tasty. Plenty of veggies ans sauce to accompany the bowl.

My grilled pork with broken rice was also very tasty. Meat was cut up for me so that was very different but pork was nicely marinated. Good amount of cucumber and tomatos to go with the fried egg and fish sauce. Mmmmmm

Not traditional Banh Mi however the flavour was absolutely mind-blowing. The price is a bit high for banh mi but the nice environment and customer service made up for it. I made an order to dine as shown on my receipt however they prepared it for take away.

Yum, I love the food here! I always get the same thing - the grilled meatball noodle bowl (add spring rolls to it if I'm feeling fatty!). The bowl has loads of delicious ingredients and is fresh and full of flavour. The fish sauce is well balanced and not too sweet. I choose this over other Vietnamese fast lunch outlets because it has a lot better balance of flavour. Staff are always friendly and service is pretty quick too. Thanks Ba'get!!
ElCompass
Went to ba'et to grab a quick lunch. I ordered the grilled chicken vermicelli noodles. I have to say it is probably the most authentic considering it is a chain. The bowl was quite balanced with just the right amount of all the elements. The chicken was well marinated and and just plain tasty! Would see myself coming back for this dish!

Finally, I found the place that can make the real taste of Vietnamese ice coffee in Melbourne. If u wanna have the real taste and very strong favourite of Vietnamese ice coffee, u should come here to try. 😍😍
Split The Bill
Lovely interior and beautiful looking cafe that provides your Banh Mi roles in lovely market friendly wrappers.

However, when you look past all the fancy this is where there was no substance in my simple chicken roll.

For $9 which this is pricey in comparison to other places that offer 'banh mi', I was expecting better, but all I got was dry chicken role with barely any pickled salad either.
The Gastronaut
Was walking by on Russel st finding a place to eat, when I found this treasure. It might look like a typical Vietnamese restaurant, but does things a bit differently. The service is quick and the portions are good. It has tables on the sidewalk too, so you can enjoy the a hearty meal on a warm day.
John
We ordered two Grilled Pork Banhmi. I was a little disappointed because this place is a Vietnamese store selling VNese Banhmi, but there's no Roasted Pork Banhmi, whattttt!!?!!? It never is a real VNese Banhmi if it ain't a Roasted Pork. So sad!!! But to be fair, the taste of the ones we ordered are good, it's just not the realistic flavour.
MY NAmE IS Lee
We have been to Baget for quite a few times. We usually order the grilled pork bowl and grilled chicken baget. They are pretty yummy and always consistently good flavour.
Ozzy Kunnu
Evening hunger-pangs lead Ozzy to this place that serves Vietnamese Food; which apparently we both love, and we loved Ba'Get so much that we have already frequented this joint twice.

Loved the ambience, enjoyed interacting with the attendants and above all, totally loved their Grilled Chicken Banh Mi and Pulled Chicken Vermicelli Bowl. Full of Favors, tender chicken and fresh ingredients.

Happy Hours starts after 5.00pm and they sell almost everything at half the price.

Value for Money for sure.
When in and around Flinders Street, look for nothing if you an ardent fan of Vietnamese Meal or Banh Mi
The Dear Luncher
Ba'get is fast becoming a Dear Luncher special-time lunch member. The Russell St branch is the 2nd to have been visited and once again it was startling just how efficient and fresh the experience was.

Enjoyed at this branch was a vermicelli bowl with grilled chicken. More chilli sir? Hell yeah. Eating chilli makes you sweat, which provides the impression that one has been exercising. "Go for a run on your lunch break did you, Dear Luncher?" ... "Why yes of course, of course ...a lap of the entire Melbourne CBD".

Suckers.

Heard whispering: "He sure is fat for someone that does all that exercise" ..."Hmm, yeah, slow metabolism probably" ...

The bowl was superb, ladies and gents. Delightfullly constructed with just the right amount of chicken and noodles. It was crisp, fragrant and zesty.

Absolutely delicious !even it is pricey, but still more than happy to pay for it cause I know it can't go wrong . Loved the baguette in particular , it's soft , with the right amount of crunchiness Into it.

Never thought a franchised banh mi shop be this good. Never was a banh mi fan but now I am. Straightly I m fine with the coriander (forgot to tell them to leave it out) inside the banh mi .
Kim
Great, fast service. Amazing delicious food. My friend and I got the Buddha tofu vermicelli bowls. Nice atmosphere, casual. Will return. Thanks so much for providing vegan options. That is rare for Vietnamese restaurants in the CBD.

Oh man. The queue was so long and the staff seemed sooooo inefficient. I stood there waiting waiting and waiting. Eventually I downloaded the app to preorder. Cos downloading the app, putting my payment details in and ordering was faster than waiting in the damn queue. Then there was only one person making the food, and she made half a sandwich (banh mi sorry) as in, put the meat and sauce in, and wait for another person who is busy taking orders to come and complete the other half of the sandwich (put the veg in). Just kill me now.

The banh mi itself was yummy, just remember to preorder using the damn phone app.
Coffee And Food Enthusiast.
Fit out looks nice and clean, but $9 for a bahn mi is just too much, you would expect some razzle dazzle and interesting flavours, but it was just above what you would expect from a $4.50 bahn mi from your local vietnamese bakers. Probably wouldn't go again.
Little Pink Piggy
Alone one lunchtime, I decided Baget would do the job. I ordered the Buddahs Tofu vermicelli bowl and for $12 it was a bit steep but the food was delicious. I asked for extra chilli and I got it! The bowl comes with a choice of soy, hoisin or fish sauce. Even though it's tiny inside, I manage to always get a seat and they pump the food out quickly so you don't wait too long. To make Baget truely Vietnamese they would need pho on the menu but overall tasty and filling. Have to mention though that everything is served in plastic containers, ever eat-in, so would encourage management to be a bit more environmentally friendlyby offering proper bowls for eat-in. Also those little plastic containers with sauce are wasteful. Kudos on the wooden takeaway cutlery.

I love the classic meat ba'get here. So close to the ones I have in Vietnam. I've noticed that other restaurants usually go for grilled meats (pork, chicken, beef...) and I'm really disappointed. However, I found this place and it's so good. They have both grilled meat, vegetarian and classic meat ba'gets here which is awesome.
Staff are very friendly and service is relatively faster than the one on Elizabeth street.
Very happy that I found this place.
Will come back for other dishes as well.

Authentic Vietnamese food . First bite of the food will tell you that you have arrived at your destination. I loved every time I come here. The ambiance , food , customers service everything is top notch. Never disappoints me . I recommend to my mates and my co workers and they all loved this place. Good luck guys and keep going on with this hard work and quality. Should definitely worth a visit considering price and quality here
Two Bears And A Fork
Okay okay okay! I have to admit I dragged my feet into Ba'get. Perhaps it's the stubborn Vietnamese side of me that continually thinks because I make my own Bánh mì, nothing can possibly be as good as my own (or how my momma makes them!) LOL! But Hubby Bear wanted to try, I wasn't in the mood to make them, and we so happened to stumble upon Ba'get. Oh how the Food Gods watch over my hubby. But after reluctantly making my way to the counter to order, I have to say, mine was pretty freakin' good. Hubby got the Meat Ball Bánh mì and I got the Buddhas Tofu one. All the classic and necessary ingredients were there, and for quick lunch in the city $9/ea is a steal. Although, if you're willing to search a little harder on the fringes (or the Preston Market), you can get ones just as good for nearly half the price. BUT! When in the CBD, do as the CBD'ers do! Suffice to say, I'm converted, and will definitely have their Bánh mì again when I'm next in the city and want a filling bite to eat under a tenner!

Ba'get - CBD, cuisine - Vietnamese. What do you do when one of your favorite Vietnamese joint is on the other end of the cbd and you are really craving for it! @ubereats to the rescue. Getting deliciousness delivered to your desk is the most amazing feeling😊. So to talk about ba'get they do the most amazing tofu vermicelli salad - freshness galore! Their tofu Banh-mi and rice paper rolls are good too(so I have been told, I can't get past ordering the salad every time, one day!!) the tofu is so well done with amazing flavours - that is the highlight of the dish for me. Chilli on the top gives it just the right kick. Great lunch option. It is located at a couple of places in the cbd so u will find one near you for sure. @bagetau - time you came to docklands too!!! @ubereats_aus #rating4.5 #ubereats #baget #vietnamesecuisine #freshness #vegetarianrocks #vegbourne #melbournecbd #lunch🍴 #foodblogger #instablogger #alwayshungryformore #healthyeating #ilovechilli #buddhastofu #vermicellisalad #melbournebesteats

Authenticity is Ba'get's motto, mission and lifeblood. Ba'get is providing authentic Vietnamese food, made from recipes that have been handed down through the generations. Ba'get not only have a wide variety of their signature Vietnamese Rolls (Banh Mi) but they also offer Vermicelli Rice Bowls where you can choose your preferred meat or vegetarian option. Ba'get have recently introduced Vietnamese Broken Rice to their menu, and you can also choose your choice of meat/veg and a sauce to go with it.
Sweet And Sour Fork
I couldn’t go past the Classic Meat Banh Mi ($9), and this one was good enough to rival the Vietnamese family-run bakeries. The crusty baguette was stuffed with 3 types of ham, flavoursome pickled carrots, as well as the usual veggies and herbs. The only thing I would change is to stick some more pate in there, but I will admit to being a big pate fan, and the sandwich was plenty flavoursome just the way it was.
Gastrology
Ba'get is known for bringing together crusty, fresh baked bread with authentic house-made charcuterie, grilled meats, pickled vegetables, pate, Asian herbs and fresh chillies to create an all-encompassing flavour and texture sensation. To celebrate Mùa Đông (winter), Ba'get has added delicious broken rice to their menu - THink fluffy broken rice, succulent grilled pork, chicken or tofu, all dressed with our famous in house sauces. This special is available for a limited time at their Russell St store!

Ba'get is our quick fix for Vietnamese food. We love their combo Vermicelli salad with grilled chicken and springrolls $15 with drinks. Vermicelli is warm, the salad is fresh and crips, We'll keep coming back and try other food.
Karine Thai
Just ordered the BBQ Pork Banh Mi, it was DELICIOUS. I think they slightly have added some sauce in it which avoided the sandwich to be dry even though the pork was perfectly cooked and tender. The only negative comment that I would have is that I find $8 for a Banh Mi a bit expensive.
Melbourne Glutton
Ba'get is one of my favorite casual Vietnamese eateries around. Our favourite picks are the recently introduced broken rice, the vermicelli bowls, and their namesake, the traditional Vietnamese bagets.

Went here because I miss the taste of banh mi so bad. The classic meat banh mi is almost exactly like what we usually get in Vietnam, slight issue is that too much soy sauce was put in, so it can be salty for some people but fine for me. They have a fair selection of choices for what goes in to the banh mi, tried the grill pork from my friend's and it was actually really good. I also ordered a sesame donut. Kinda knew what this was in terms of Vietnamese food, but it was not as I expected. It was thick and basically a big starchy donut which is not what we have in Vietnam, had a few bites and decided to stop.

Overall, the quality of the banh mi was on point. Would definitely go back for more!

Update: The best banh mi I've eaten in Melbourne!
Jeany Liong, TwoPaperPen
Express and delicious. I absolutely love the grilled pork bowl especially the fried shallot topping. The grilled pork banh mi's portions are rather huge but I can still finish it because it's so tasty. Definitely will cone back for more.

On days whereby I just want to have something light and fresh to bite on, I turn to Vietnamese food for two reason - one being it is affordable and secondly, I can get a decent fix of veggies in one plate/ bowl. Ba'get is conveniently located on Russell Street in the CBD. The shop's layout is catered more towards a takeaway concept but of course, there are seating areas for customers wanting to dine in. For $10, you will be well fed.
Annabelle Woo
ordered the grilled chicken vermicelli bowl- price was very reasonable and it was just delicious! the service was also very good and all staff were friendly and it was fast. would come back again

I love Ba'get, We were greeted by a cheerful, fun and helpful guy on the counter, who helped us with the different options available to our group. The selections ranged from the banh mi's to vermicelli noodle bowls, all of which were very tasty (I had a bite of others' lunches, of course!).

Can't believe that you can buy a lunch this good for so cheap. Definitely recommend if you're a CBD worker and you don't have too long to spare for your lunch break!
Dani R
Had a banh mi here, and though I wanted to love this place, I found it a little average. The roll tasted a little dry and overcooked, and the meat though generously proportioned was not counterbalanced by enough fresh coriander or carrot. The carrot also didn't have as much pickled flavour as I was hoping for. Still, all up, it's a decent lunch option and the service was friendly too.
Steven Pillay
Had the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork. Good sized portion and very tasty. For the portion size I think 2 portions of dressing would be more appropriate.
J88
They have the best and freshest Vietnamese Ba'get in town, their spice soy chai latte is awesome!! Highly recommend their Lemongrass chicken noodle bowl and you get to pick your sauce (Soy, fish sauce etc). Bagat is my fav Vietnamese food chain in the CBD, cheap and tasty. They open at 10.30 am daily, Liven or entertainment card member also get a discount.
Julycheee
We visited after work at 6:00 for a quick feed and were out the door at 6:30 on the dot. Our banh mi was rather bland, dry and needed more fresh salad, but the vermicelli bowl was delicious! The sweet potato fries took a while to come out, but it was worth it as they were freshly fried to perfection. Cassava was also really nice. Overall, very happy with our quick meal. Mains were filling and $10 or under, and had a lot of fresh ingredients.
MyFoodBelly
Vietnamese food is my go-to when I’m in the mood for a light meal, and when prepared using fresh ingredients, it can be both healthy and full of amazing flavour. This was certainly the case at Ba’get, a small, non-descript little restaurant and takeaway located along Russell Street that serves up an amazing selection of Banh Mi, noodles salads and rice paper rolls for a very affordable price.
MelbFoodie
Always consistant. Always tasty.

Great for a quick fuss free lunch!

Give it a try .. i go once a week!

My favorite is the grilled meatball bowl
Ben Lee Kong
Very reasonably priced and delicious bahn mi. I tried the grilled pork and there is plenty of flavour there. It was the weekend and quiet so difficult to judge the difference in quality at peak times, but besides being a bit light on pate their version is excellent.
Chow Yum Fat
Was pleasantly surprised by this Vietnamese fast food eatery. The Bahn Mi Classic at $8.0 was a little pricey but authentic, fresh and delicious. In Sydney, they're usually around $4.5 to $6.5 even in the CBD but I suppose this is a branded joint with comfortable seating and really friendly service. The Grilled Chicken Vermicelli bowl was also refreshing and yummy. At $10.00 I think this dish is the underpriced one! Rice paper rolls were also great. Recommended for a quick stop Viet hit if you're suffering from snacky hunger pangs.

When your sick of the usual sangas and salads this joint will add some colour to your palet. Flavoursome, inexpensive, speedy and delicious it's the perfect lunch time run.

Wow, this a great place for a fresh banh mi sandwich! I ordered the pork sandwich and they asked if I'd like it spicy. Of course! Everything on the sandwich was so fresh including the bread. The bread was so soft and the ratio of bread to other ingredients was perfect. These types of sandwiches at other places can be heavy on bread, but this was perfect for me. I ordered the combo and selected a sesame donut as my side item. I've never had a donut like this before, but it was fantastic too. I think all the bread here must be fantastic. If one of these places opened up near where I work, I would come here often for lunch. They're open for lunch only so you'll have to get your fix before dinner. I'm getting hungry just thinking about that delicious pork sandwich again. Try them out soon and eat a sandwich for me!

Ba'Get continues to impress with Vietnamese street food served with a passion. It's been almost a year since I've seen Duy and his team, and their love for this business has only grown stronger. The passage of time has given him leeway to refine the operations, and it has also allowed him to expand his business, and Ba'Get is now in four different locations across Melbourne.
EatPraySleep
At one stage I would come here at least once a week. Over time the prices incrementally have risen over time. Still popular so they must be doing OK just can't justify it personally.
Mike Davis
I go here for lunch everyday and order the exact same thing. It's that good and consistent! Vermicelli with double chicken and extra chilli :) Elite form Baget. Never Change.

Ba'get is a chain of upscale Vietnamese canteens, offering banh mi, bowls and rice paper rolls. The flavours are pretty authentic although aimed it seems at a Western palate with a bit of a price premium.

On this occasion l had the grilled pork rice paper rolls - three fat, juicy and fresh logs for $10. A feature is that although they come with the usual peanut dipping sauce, these rolls are delightfully moist rather than dry, so the sauce is a pleasant accompaniment rather than a necessary component to ensure you can swallow your lunch.

My main hesitation with Ba'get is that they run out of menu choices frequently and early. I had wanted the grilled meatball rice paper rolls, or the chicken ones but neither was available. Same thing happened last time with a bahn mi order. That's probably a sound business decision to avoid waste but not good as a customer experience. I wasn't fussed enough to go elsewhere but l might in future.

Overall, pretty good but for the ultimate banh mi, l suggest Nhu Lan in Footscray or N. Lee in the CBD.

Long line at lunch but moves quick as much of the food is already prepared. Prefer to come here for lunch for a quick bite to eat than greasy fast food. Good city option for lunch.
Stacey
Quick and easy lunch option. Ordered the classic meat banh mi, filling enough and quite tasty but will definitely consider the combo option next time.

Their website shows the restaurant closes at 4pm but when you go there, the door says 3.30pm... so I couldn't try their Banh mi.

If you want a good banh mi, Nhu Lan in Footscray is good value

In Melbourne CBD, N.Lee bakery (422 Collins St) has got very good "BBQ pork banh mi" (Mon-Fri as they don't have fresh bred on Sat)

Fantastic value bowls, bigger than other Viet chain (starting with R) noodle bowls and tasted GREAT! I think the menu is well priced and it was SO delicious I will be back to try the rolls. One thing I didn't like was I ordered spring rolls and I didn't realise they would be chopped up into the salad and thus lose their crunch... would have preferred it on the side but not given the option. They also put them into the wrong bowl since I didn't realise they weren't separate. But that was a minor quibble.. otherwise the noodle salad was really tasty, filling, and the sauces were AWESOME! I thought the soy sauce would just be plain soy sauce and a bit much, same with the fish sauce, but both were mixed very well with other.. stuff and made a delightful dressing. Mmmm... totally worth the trip up from the other side of the CBD!

No service... waited and waited... had to get my own menu... then had to go up and order.... and the menu said $15.90 for noodle soup... and he charged me $19.90!! Over priced and just okay food. Wouldn't go back again. ...

Rather an average banh mi, it's also quite pricey for what it is. When the place just opened we were able to get a couple of sauces for the noodle but now we can only choose one. Some staff were nice and some are just plain rude, I have never come back.

Yummy but not amazing. For $7.90 you'd expect an exceptional roll but I got the "classic meat" and there wasn't much to it. Left me hungry and disappointed

Delicious banh mi! Purchased a classic and a lemongrass pork banh mi and I've discovered that I'm not a huge fan of the lemongrass but that's just my preference. Quick service and friendly staff. The pickled carrots could be a bit more sour

I discovered this place for lunch one day, the Lemongrass pork vermicelli bowl is really yummy and good value for $9.90. The shop is clean, bright and cosy.

I am definitely coming back to try other dishes. They are always busy, walked past their Elizabeth store last night twice, it was packed, standing room only.

A great place to grab a tasty and quick lunch. My (current) favourite is the lemongrass pork vermicelli bowl with fish sauce - it's fresh (with a nice crunch to it), very filling and too not badly priced at $9.90.

I haven't tried the bahn mi, but my friend has, and his opinion is that it's not as good or nearly as filling as the vermicelli bowl or rice paper rolls (especially priced at $7.90).

Spring roll sides seem pricey and not worth the extra cost.
FOOD TRIP
Same concept as Little Brother but in a chain store format. Cheap, simple, quick and tasty Vietnamese food packaged behind a brand and a higher sticker price. You'll find much better options in Richmond and Footscray. But if you've got the craving and you're in the area, Little Brother is still a better pick.
FOOD TRIP
The place is nice and cute. We ordered a noodle salad and a roll. The food was decent, but quite overpriced for what it is. Feels healthy to eat and quite satisfying, but probably wouldn't come back.

Second time was much better. Tried this place again and had the salad roll without the hoisin sauce (personally, I found it too sweet). Was really tasty with fresh salad and great mayo. Great lunch time option.

-----23 Mar, 2015-----

Worst roll I've ever had. My experience here started well, with a great reception from the enthusiastic staff member who was keen to help me decide. At $7.90, I expected it to be the best Vietnamese roll I'd ever had. What a disappointment it (the lemongrass chicken) turned out to be! The sauce on it tasted of pure sugar, which ruined the whole roll. It was revolting. They need to either change that brown sauce, or put less of it on the bun. It was so sweet that I threw most of it away. Suffice to say I won't be back.
Snow Crab Nebula
This chain is kinda a safe, whitey place to get a banh mi. They do a decent banh mi, certainly not as authentic or tasty as some of those you get from Vietnamese bakeries but it'll do in a pinch in the CBD. Prices are fairly reasonable, but again not as good as in the aforemention...

There's a fun eatery filled with tasty pho and delicious danishes just down the street from where I work. Ba'get is a concept borrowed from street food during the Indochine period in Vietnam when the French colonised this south-eastern nation and brought forth a fusion of cuisines that celebrated the best of both cultures. I love pho...

Love it!. The best vietnamese food. So fresh and tasty. I will definitely be back!

Great little lunch place. Tasty and value for money. It's not often you find a meal in Melbourne CBD for under $10 and be full. Oh, and you can help yourself to fish sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce and pandan tea! :)

Excellent fresh Vietnamese!
Connoisseurofallthingssweet
Cheap and cheerful. Tasty banh mi, the menu offers a good variety of options. Grilled chicken, shredded chicken, meatball, and tofu ones all delicious! Pandan tea also available on a self serve basis.

The best and good value !
Much Ado About Food
Grilled lemongrass chicken bowl hits the mark.. Tried Ba'get for the first time today... very impressed. Ideal work lunch option - quick, light, tasty and healthy. I am a big fan of Vietnamese and find myself chasing the elusive dragon of traditonal tasty vermicelli salad (bun) that is the right balance of noodles, vegetables, herbs, crunchy texture from the penuts, lean, tasty marinated meat with the all important nuoc cham sauce.... Ba'get gets the ratio just right. The first of many visits for this Vietnamese addict!

Brilliant. Highly recommended. Fresh rolls Nd tasty fillings. The perfect lunch if you're pressed for time. Love it

I've been here a few times now for lunch and haven't been disappointed yet.
The bread roll is soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The lemongrass pork and grilled meatball was soft and tender but nothing beats the classic ham.
The ice coffee is also good.
Give it a try if you're looking for healthy alternatives during lunch.
Kevin Piggin' Out On A Budget
Good but... But... Everything on the menu is very similar, just different in meat and sauce. Anyhow it still tasted very nice tho! And only $6.80 (: most things are below $10.

I had the lemon grass chicken in a "Ba'get".

Seriously good. One bite and ... oh yeah!
