Review Invita Living Food - Melbourne

Love this place in the heart of the Vic Market. The standard of excellence for coffee & croissants is met every time. Friendly & efficient service. The ambience can change with the weather but the seats are comfortable and the tables adequate. Always worth a visit when I'm in the area.

Stumbled upon this gem that serves clean (on all fronts) and delicious food that would support anyone on every form of diet. The staff here are very friendly and very professional. I'd recommend this to all who visits Queen Victoria Market!

Service and food fantastic! Well worth the extra few dollars! We had pulled 'pork' burger and curry accompanied by two almond milk lattes. All vegan and very filling. Light dinner tonight ;)

I was craving some nutritious vegetarian healthy food & these guys provided exactly what I needed. The food was amazing, the presentation was amazing and the service was fantastic and the coffee was a great standard too. Will be back here for sure on my next stop in Melbourne. So many food options. To go wraps, cakes, snacks, Indian currys, pancakes, and brekkie classics. I opted for the Rosti and I had absolutely no food envy.

Really Good food, you can find many alternatives gluten free. The personal is really lovely and the atmosphère is magical , in the victoria market! :) i reccomend it

Great breakfast place , awesome vegan option and friendly staff. Cute indoor / outdoor seating, right in the middle of Vic market. I recommend :)
Marg Boutilier
Our ham & cheese, cheese & tomato toasties were very tasty.

Amazing muffin and great menu for vegans!! Ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture. Only thing is that they have moved to next to the organically section so the map placement is a little off

So happy to grab a fantastic coffee while visiting the Queen Victoria market from Invita. It's located in a convenient spot outside the main area, so the lines aren't as long as at other cafes near the market. The food also looks amazing, and there is a delicious choice of sweet and savoury dishes.

I grabbed a takeaway coffee and a raw carrot cake. The coffee was excellent, and the cake was amazing. Not too sweet, and a healthy alternative to the traditional kind of cake; I really enjoyed this treat. Service was excellent and I would return to Invita for coffee and snacks again.

will give 3.5 overall

service 5/5 - very patient staff and very welcoming with a smile on their faces and really laid back.

food
salmon eggs Benedict 3/5 - Overall it was an enjoyable dish! First the good: eggs were poached perfectly, good amount of smoked salmon (although I thought it would come with fresh salmon as the menu just specified 'salmon', which made me slightly disappointed), and the hollandaise sauce (which I did put on the side) was well made and seasoned. That being said, the dish overall was a bit simplistic and in my opinion, a little pricey even with smoked salmon. Perhaps it was because I substituted the bagel for sourdough bread, but I felt the dish was slightly lacking in terms of the contents on the plate and price. I did pay with Zomato gold and had 25% off, but without the discount the overall price would feel a little too much for me.

That being said, I think I wouldve loved their other dishes and it seems like those would be more worth their price than what I chose. I would also love to try their banana leaf meals next time I come! As for the actual dish of eggs Benedict, perhaps I'll try it with the bagel next time as well.

This cafe makes both tasty western food and tasty Sri Lankan food with a hipster twist. The coffee is good. Prices are very reasonable for what you get.

More brunch!!! My favourite meal of the day 😊 Thank you @invitalivingfood for cooking up an amazing meal!!

All the food is fresh, and super delicious. They use organic sugar and olive/coconut oils, and there’s no deep drying (a bonus for me!!) ☺️

I recommend their big brekkie!!

Will be back!

Perfect for a nice quiet morning. Super happy to find many vegan options - banana bread, tofu cheesecakes etc
Wen
Nice food, generous portion. Good environment, right in Victoria market, perfect for chilling out with friends after grocery shopping. Will visit again.

Good small cafe located very close to queen Victoria market. They have a good variety of options for vegeterains as well. I like their Dessert selection as well. The veg pie was a bit of disappointment though.

Lovely vegan breakfast. Tofu scambled “eggs” with avocado on toast and wedges on the side. Very quick service also for anyone having a hangover on sunday and wants a quick meal haha

The food is generally always healthy and delicious - but the portions are too small for the expensive price. I bought a $7 salad that was very tiny — it was child sized!

It’s amazing to go to a small cafe that is high in vegan options. I really enjoyed my ice chocolate which I specified to make vegan. It was perfect for the hot day that it was. The muffin was tasty but I found that it tasted quite dry. My friend really enjoyed her smoothie. Will surely go again and try one of those made meals.
Fike
They offer several vegan options. Suitable for breakfast and lunch. Tried the muffin, sausage roll, cookie and curry they’re tasty. Surely one of those cafe i’ll come back to 😊

Had my first meal of the day in Melbourne here! Definitely happy and satisfied. The taste was superb and the meal was wholesome enough to keep me from being hungry until dinner! This was a brunch menu 😁

Had the shepards pie with salad and the scrambled tofu. The meals looked and tasted amazing. Very colourful and fresh. Also very unique tastes - I've had several different vegan scrambled tofus before and this one had a light curry taste to it which made it even better! The only downside was the seating was covered with bird poo. I know that this is outdoor seating so of course birds wander in, and I love birds, however when I'm eating it's slightly off-putting and not really hygienic. I recommend getting chairs that aren't made of plant material/flax type of material that stuff can get stuck in and be hard to clean.
EsmeEats
Had a really pleasant brunch here, it is slightly pricey compared to places nearby but has such a varied tasty looking menu I found it difficult to choose! I went for the eggs/mushrooms/spinach/hummus on sourdough and my bf went for the berry pancakes. Mine was tasty, but could have done with a bit more caramelised onion to give a punch of flavour. The berry pancakes were amazing though - layers of berries in between the pancakes!

Favorite cafe at Vic markets because the coffee is good and the food even more so. It's a hard decision between their amazing smoothie options but be warned, the green smoothie is filling. I've tried nearly everything on the menu I think, all tasty nutritious food. It may be vegetarian but give it a go, you'll like the variety of flavours.

Waste of money and time. We ordered a cake which took more than half an hour to come and it wasn't even baked properly. For the rest of the food we had to wait almost an hour and it was definitely not worth the wait (cold, too salty...) even though it was well presented. If you have time and money to waste and are only interested in taking good instagram pictures, this place if for you. If not, find somewhere else!

The service was terrible and the food not so great. We ordered coffees and it was cold but well presented with some coffee art. We also ordered banana bread which took literally 40mins to arrive while it was just standing there in the bar. This banana bread was so dry and not well cooked at all, not edible at all. Also, the waiters were just terribly organised and doing nothing at times. But I guess the worst is that we had to wait 55 for a sautéed mushroom which was sour and did not worth the time at all. Will never come back there.
Food Hoarder
This is a very good café that offers healthy and delicious food. The portions served are sensible and the food is of good quality.
Coffee and juices are also great.

There are only a couple of things that I think this café needs changing/improving:

1: Customer service can be quite cold sometimes. Staff should genuinely be happy that people have chosen to spend their money at their business.

2: The food on the menu can be the same texture and you notice this if you eat there regularly. They need to offer different textured food as it can all be too soft, easy to chew and swallow. It would be good to experience some crunch that's associated with healthy vegetarian/vegan food. The menu needs more veggies that are robust and main star of the meal, not a medley of vegetables combined together to create a soft textured burger or pie filling etc.

3: The beetroot burger is way too salty and feels like you are eating velvet, and not in a pleasant way. Imagine trying to chew and swallow velvet needing a glass of water to help you swallow it down. Only to find it also sits in your chest.

4: Tables need to be cleared regularly as cups and plates can be left out on the tables for a very long time. When customers walk by an outdoor café that has stuff all over the tables, it can deter people from wanting to dine there.

As a whole, it's not my most favourite place in the world but my friend recommended it because she is vegan, so she had some options. She had the Scrambled Tofu, which looked amazing. I'm not even a tofu fan and would consider getting this. I just had scrambled eggs, which comes with grilled tomato and mushrooms ($14.50). My coffee was good too.

I've passed by so many times and finally I tried the coffee there. Coffee used Axil coffee beans and I really enjoy it. Also notice they have so many choice of homemade vegetarian food which looks really good. And staffs are very nice.
Kim
I had breakfast with my friends yesterday. Don't like the staff in this coffee shop, but the food is great. Hope they can improve their customer service.
NellyBelly In Melbourne
In a sea of market chaos and fast food that characterizes our beloved Queen Victoria Market, Invita floats on its own island of ethical eating. For more than a decade, this popular market café is something of a paradise for people on alternative diets, namely vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free foodies. Though marketed for a niche group of people, the café attracts anyone with an interest in healthy and creative food.

Take the Sunrise Scramble Tofu for example....: a medley of mushroom, veggies and scrambled tofu in delicious spices...
Garry
Disappointing given the reviews. Dishes small for price, sliced bread from supermarkets, staff not knowing the difference between a corn cake or a shepherds pie?
Melbsgaleater
Lentils shepherds pie was delicious! Best thing was the BANANA SMOOTHIE!!! Vegan version with coconut yoghurt and agave SO YUM!!!! Staff are friendly. But I think they're a bit lacking on the hygiene, the cutlery that was given to me was dirty still and tables didn't seem like they had been wiped. Understandably a bit harder seeing as it is an outdoor cafe and doesn't take away from the yummy taste of the foods!
Marcus Kali
I'll start with the negatives
Where is my food? I ordered the scrambled eggs with mushroom and rocket and the French toast with herbs and cheese. Eventually it came, but instead we got two servings of the eggs, staff must have been confused? I then had to wait an extra ten minutes for the French toast.
The positives, well the food was worth the wait. Everything was tasty and filling and the Freshly squeezed orange juice was great too.
Pleasant outdoor setting. Impressive coffee art and good coffee.
Anita
A lovely place to eat and chill out. Great food, excellent, friendly service, wonderful vibe. The staff went out of their way to make us feel very welcome. We ordered so much food but managed to finish it all as it was just delicious. The Tiramisu cake was divine!!
Doug
Great coffee, great music. Chill vibes for a Saturday morning. Goes well with the authentic queen Vic jam donut.
Louise Rhodes
Obtaining much of it's organic & veg/vegan produce from the market, this little cafe offered a welcome respite from the serious queuing, smoke, heat, humidity and noise within the pavillions.
Goodhearted
Invita Living Food is an all vegetarian cafe that has been feeding shoppers at the Queen Victoria Market for a good 10 years. To this day, Invita is still going strong by dishing up hearty vegan lunches and delicious vegan sweets.

What makes Invita really special is that it emphasizes on using organic ingredients and has created a range of gluten-free, vegan and 100% vegetarian food for Melbournians. 80% of their food being vegan and GF friendly; and six out of their ten cakes are either GF or prepared without using eg

This cafe is vegan and I love their healthy soy hot chocolates. Who cares about the price because it is sooo darn good! I can get my salad fix here as well as my chocolate fix! And they do good teas too!

Best Coffee in the market. Gary the barista is a quirky coffee genius. Always welcoming and great service!!

Do not like it Food was fla.... Do not like it
Food was flavourless and coffee was very average to melbourne standards ( dont think Gary drinks much coffee) do yourself a favour go across the road for a great coffee and to the market and grab a carrot and save your money !!

Amazing food, great service!. I'm not even a fan of risotto normally, but the manager gave me a taste and it was so delicious that I had to order it!! Excellent service and a cute little cafe - highly recommended.
Christine
Probably the best risotto I've ever had! This cute little cafe has a delicious selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. I'll definitely be back to try them all; good coffee and lovely staff as well!

Best coffee in melbourne. You people who don't like this place are crazy. The coffee is the best I've tried in melbourne and the kids love the hot chocolate. Breakfast is great and the friendly staff make your day. The food is very healthy and the kids love the chia. Cakes and muffins are great and most are gluten free. Definitely reccomend lunch or breakfast. GO TO THIS AMAZING HIDDEN JEM!!!!!!!!

Took 20 minutes to serve 3 soups even though we were the only customers...

Chia pudding. Yum!

Amazing Sweets. I go to Invita every time I'm in Melbourne because of the gluten free, vegan chocolate cake. It's so hard to find (or make) good gluten free cake and this one has an amazing texture, and the icing is delicious too. I've also tried the shepherd's pie and the freshly made juices, which I would definitely buy again, all being very tasty. The service is always friendly and helpful, so I feel comfortable asking questions about the various options.

I went here for brunch with my friend and I can tell you that it was fantastic! Not only is it vegaetarian and gluten free friendly, the food is amazing and the service was fantastic, super friendly staff and amazingly priced meals! My new favourite! Definitely coming here next time I come back to melbourne!

Great Latte. This place has the best latte around vic market area hands down. After tasting many coffees around its vicinity I always come back to invita. Great service and good food too.

BEST VEGAN DESSERTS. If you are looking for a variety of vegan desserts this is the place to be! Whoever imagined a vegan Tiramisu!? Invita has it and you will be addicted after the first bite. I love it and will continue to come back there for more of their Tiramisu which is finished by the close of business. Try out their other dessert goodies, it's all awesome!
Juliemc9
Great Coffee. Great tasting coffee and also tasty gluten-free meal options.
Francie
Went here for breakfast with my partner and was really disappointed with the quality of food and the attached price tag. My coffee was ok but I ordered fruit toast that seemed to be reheated stale bread. My partners breakfast - eggs etc was really bad, sludgy, soggy and stale. His breakfast was approx $15, for this price we have been able to get beautiful, quality breakfasts elsewhere.
We really regretted eating here. On the upside, the staff were nice.
Save your money and your belly and opt for another cafe or some fresh produce at the market.
Marty Waugh
Terrible food. NOT good value for money. Coffee was ok, but I had 'scrambled eggs' for breakfast which were definitely made from packet powder scrambled egg mix. The side of spinach was burnt and abysmall, the toast was clearly made from stale re-heated bread. This standard of food is unacceptable for a cafe located in the heart of Melbourne's fresh food market. The serving size was small based on my experiences of eating the same priced meals elsewhere. The food standard is on par with a truckers roadhouse food in the middle of the nullarbor. Will NEVER return, save your money and eat somewhere else.
Nubymar Rangel
Slow service, tasteless food and small portions. Felt like I wasted my money. Never coming back.
Zoe
If you are coeliac or very sensitive DO NOT EAT HERE
I am incredibly sick from eating the 'gluten free ' food from here.

A happy regular. Invita Living Food is an amazing cafe` that I'm proud to call Melbournian. Great coffee, Amazing food and friendly service. I am a dedicated carnivore but I have to say that when I eat at Invita I do not miss my meat. Everything has a tremendous degree of attention to detail and is absolutely delicious, if a a little pricey. All in all I would urge anybody who visits this end of Elizabeth street to come and try it, you won't be sorry.
Alex Coath
Awesome place for Lunch. Full Vegetarian menu, but I didn't notice until my second visit. Soups, foccacias, pies, quasedillas, cakes, coffee, everything looks awesome, I can attest to the Mediterranean Foccacia to be as good as any in Centre Pl/Degraves. Location is great, well shaded, right in the bustle, but on the edge of the street so you can listen to hawkers, people watch or just pretend your somewhere else. Decent prices (9.50 foccacia)

Will go back (and do)
Lois Kerr
Amazing veggie, vegan and GF options. Best-kept lunch secret in melbourne!

I love cafe mocca~♥ GOOD COFFEE

Yummy veg hit. I can't get enough of their baby spinach and lentil soup, I have it about once a fortnight if I need a good veg hit. I don't think I've really tried much else other than the salads which are also delicious!
Brandy
Quick and friendly service. Great use of spices and flavour, good sized meals and comfortable environment. Thumbs up

Lovely outdoor cafe/lunch bar next to the lively market; I really enjoyed my chai latte and walnut & date slice.

Good food, Great service and value for money. This place is a 'hidden gem' in whole of Melbourne.... Food and service are amazing.. they serve vegan dishes and all of them are made up with organic ingredients and which is why it's located beside the organic section of the Vic Market...
My friend and I were very happy with the food and coffee we had...
Would definitely go back again to try some more dishes...
If you go to Vic Market or nearby don't forget to try this place out...
Alex
Really slow service, average breakfast and high prices for what you get.
Naomi Davies
The food was amazing. Lovely and home made. Lots of yummy vegan options and desserts!
