Review The Melbourne Bakehouse - Melbourne

Sowmya Shree
Yummy desserts and pastries. Coffee was good too. The outlet was busy when I went there around 12:45pm. Looks like a popular bakery to go to. Loved the pastries. Gobbled most of them before I could take a shot. Reasonably priced and decent food. They have build your own sandwich and roll service, which is essential for picky eaters.

Two cakes are fine, but this custard & raspberry pie is so awesome even it's hard to eat&cut. The young woman served me was so kind. Resonable price in Melbourne, comfy vibe.

Great place for good desserts and nice coffee. Very generous serving too which is nice. Apart from the great variety of cakes and good coffee is the exemplary customer service. This is why we keep going back and I even get cakes for work functions here. The barista really embodies amazing customer service. If you want to see how good customer service should be delivered, get yourself down there!

Best ever. The most amazing breakfast/lunch or afternoon tea đŸ” fresh ingredients and the smiles 😃 from the owner are always pleasantly welcoming 🙏. It's like coming home. Some good old fashioned favourites 😍 mixed with the traditional European style and flavour. Always a favourite on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch or even a catch up with friends. Not only one of Melbourne's best and finest but a Port Melbourne's Institution. Mmmmm yum 😋

Loved their version of sticky date pudding as well as bread pudding.... Probably one of the nicest bakeries in Melbourne that's always crowded, especially during office hours where people are ordering made-to-order wraps and rolls and sandwiches...Definitely returning to.try them Service is quick and easy. Easy on the pocket!!

I visited this establishment for the first time 10 days ago. Apart from great food and competitive prices, what impressed me more than anything else was the polite manner in which management and staff spoke to patrons. By that I don't mean only the regulars but me a stranger. Good manners are free, but a genuine greeting is indeed very rare these days. Thank you.

Excellent cakes and coffee. Open 7 days a week until late afternoon - great for a cafĂ©/bakery (far too many cafe places close and must think people don’t want a coffee and cake after 3pm). Even open very early for those on way to work at 5.30am.

Sadly the almond croissant I received was not edible, completely soaked in oil, hard like a leather shoe and looked crushed from sitting on the display too long (I threw it in the bin after one bite). The customer service also was terrible with the older woman behind the counter staring at me, not saying “thank you” after I politely thanked them and grunting after placing my order. I am confused as to why this place is popular with the locals, I guess it’s just the location on Bay Street. I’ll be avoiding this bakery as it’s really gone downhill in the past 12 months.

This was a lovely discovery yesterday! The ambience was nice and warm with the most friendliest service. They were very accommodating of us and the food was delectable. So glad we were able to have lunch there. Did I say that we experienced the most friendliest service? 5/5!

In the midst of covid 19 this bakery is still upholding its cash only tax dodging policy. Oh but it’s okay they have their own cash machine charging you exorbitant fees for withdrawal. I do love the pies here but is it worth having to deal with germy money. The staff are also forever changing and never seem happy. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some kind of exploitation going on.

When the craving for a meat pie and sausage roll hit, you can do way worse than the Melbourne Bakehouse in Port Melbourne. This busy bakery in the main street has glass cabinets overflowing with delicious looking treats of the sweet and savoury persuasion.

I bypassed all the delicious cakes, pastries and biscuits and selected from the pie oven. A sausage roll is always a given, and we also chose a cheese and bacon pie and a chicken and leek pie. They looked appetising and the smell was sensational. The pastry held together really well, but was still buttery and flaky. The sausage roll had a good amount of vegetables and herbs, so it had a delicious flavour. Both the pies also had yummy fillings, with the beef nice and tender with a peppery gravy, and the chicken tasted great.

There are quite a few staff as this place gets busy, so service is quick and friendly; and I always leave happy with my experience at the Melbourne Bakehouse.

I was initially frustrated trying to find a bakery that sold Napoleon cake. Eventually, i made a call to this bakery, and luckily they were able to do special request cakes. The cake tastes amazing, it was baked to perfection with super creamy layers of cream inside and out. The customer service was also really great and accommodating. However, would have been better if they allowed payment by card, as the fee to take cash out was pretty high in here.

Overall great experience!
Good Food Good Mood
We had a super indulgent extremely dense chocolate mud cake today from Melbourne Bakehouse which had me on a serious sugar high, so delicious!

The food is fine. You get an amazing aroma around and the items look very appealing. But the taste is just fine. I went on a Saturday and the area was kind of crowded. But the outlet is pretty spacious. The staff is also cooperative.

My last day of work coincided with a birthday so there was a combined cake bought for the occasion. A delicious Ferraro Roche covered cake that although containing mouse and covered in chocolate was actually quite light being made with fresh airy sponge. Nicely decorated and a big hit with the rest of the project team.

Cakes, coffee and more cakes. A family run business where you can watch the bakers create their sweet delights. Our coffees were hot and balanced. We’d love to come back for lunch after seeing the fresh, full salad rolls being made.

Pretty decent cakes here which wont break the bank, perfect for occasions, birthdays etc. If you want a coffee in the sun on bay st then this is the place to be, as its north facing and the otherside of the street is always cold and in the shade. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make this a popular venue.

Tried their wagon wheel yesterday. It was quite nice however the biscuit was pretty hard and I was worried about the possibility of cracking a tooth lol The marshmallow centre was nice and gooey and the jam was the right amount. The chocolate on the outside was also nice too.

I have found the service to be poor on multiple occasions. They also do not accept credit cards which can be inconvenient. There are plenty of better options in the local area.
Split The Bill
This bakehouse has been around for a long time. Don't expect fancy foods like all the other cafes on bay street, you won't find it here, but they do offer cheap basic foods like sandwiches & quiches and you can buy biscuits in bulk. Dont get me wrong, the bakehouse is still a popular place with locals.

Got sick from a pie I had from this joint.... DO NOT GO HERE...

Whilst I must admit their cakes and other sweets are quite nice, and I haven't tried their coffee yet, I hear thats quite nice, that still doesn't justify being stuck on the toilet doing a runny you know what...

Modernised bakery, good old fares .....

Busy bakery, lots of friendly and attentive staff.

Bakery stuffs are good and especially well made pies.

Coffee is okay too.

Not many seats so I've never eaten in. Coffee is better than you would think from a bakery. Love grabbing a sneaky pie or sausage roll for lunch.
Byron's Vanilla Slice Blog
And so to my second vanilla slice of the day - a tip off from a follower on Twitter. This slice looked much more in keeping with the traditional appearance and for the size and weight of the product I thought $4 was a reasonable price. Then the cashier tried to charge me $4.50, even though the docket in the cabinet explicitly indicated $4. This was immediately followed by a massive wave of disappointment, when it became obvious that this product was made with inferior ingredients. The custard was very flavourless and 'set' in texture, the pastry soggy and breaking apart in sheets and the icing way too sweet and artificial flavoured. After taking a second and third bite trying desperately to see the positives, I gave up and threw the rest away. Having eaten so many slices, this one just wasn't worth the calories.

The Melbourne Bakehouse has so much to offer, beautiful cakes, sweets, pastries, pies you name it. I have sat in to eat once or twice but always found it to be uncomfortable. It gets so crowded and loud that you can't hear yourself think. Great food! Coffee is okay. Recommend take-away.

By far the best Tiramisu I have had!! Every single time I go there, they are always so fresh! Not to mention the excellent coffee. Highly recommend if you havnt yet tried:)

Everything here is great. Fresh, high quality food prepared with love. The warmth of the staff is equal only to how hard they work. The place is packed with locals. If you're looking for a fancy new cafe then don't come here. If you're after the kind of place that doesn't exist any more, with a real sense of community, then come on down.

Such a great warm family feeling here.., Nic the owner creates a grest atmosphere and Rae crestes the most amaaaaazing sandwiches

I was in your bakery today at approx 1.45pm and was witness to one of the most awful displays of workplace bullying & harrassment. The incident took place between two ladies, both middle aged, the first in plaits & the second with died red hair & glasses, whilst speaking to your international young employee. The young employee was very kindly making my sandwhich & asked the red haired lady about the price to charge, in which the lady responded with unnecessary rudeness & quite frankly blatant harassment, all because she wasn't sure what to charge me for a sandwhich?!. This type of behaviour is unacceptable in the workplace & I truly hope that poor employee quits. I have never felt so uncomfortable & I will never shop in your bakery again. The behaviour of these two older women (particularly the one with died red hair) was soo poor that I feel I am well within my rights to formally report this abusive & bullying incident.

Fast and friendly service. Enjoyed my coffee and sausage roll too.

Bad Breakfast. Just had scrambled eggs here, a rubbery overcooked omlette chopped up is not scrambled eggs.
Amanda
Great cakes!!! Friendly owner, best coffee on bay st
Mistermister
Stinky texta on lids of coffee ruins it.. Don't write on lids with stinky textas.

Nice food but a bit overpriced...

Nothing amazing but they do the job. We had a meat and chicken pie - they were nothing amazing but not really bad either - not a big fan of their pastry though, prefer a lighter one, our other dining partner had a kind of quiche thing that was pretty good. We ordered one tea but I asked for another cup - the kindly middle aged European woman there however bought us out another cup and pot free! I was impressed! Anyway with that kind of service I will be back - but won't push my luck again asking for another cup...:-)

Decent food, horrible coffee, busy only due to perfect location

Coffee is good here and service very quick even when busy. Pies are to die for and the cakes are so yummy! The best is the banana coconut cake.

Many Pleasant Surprises. Have had lunch here 4 times now. Have never had a negative experience but many positives.
Service 5 stars. It is popular but they always friendly and efficient.
Food 5 stars. As fresh as possible. The pasties have vegetables that are firm and full of flavour. Not mushy at all. All rolls/breads freshly baked. Love their vanilla slices. They use a sort of wheat pastry. Flaky and light no hint of dough. Great coffee.
Prices reasonably low.

Good cheap lunch. Very tasty egg and lettuce sandwich on fresh bread for $4.00. This is perfect for a quick lunch in a very convienent location. Had some of their baked goods which were also tasty and cheap. Choc chip cookies, lemon tarts all yum and hardly put a dent in my wallet! Service is friendly and efficient.

Good convenient location to catch up after a sunday ride. Coffee is very average, spanikopita was quite sour and pies/sausage rolls were run of the mill. Egg and bacon roll is nothing special, but the chocolate slice is spectacular. Come here if only for this!
Tardar Sauce
Had the spanakopita - not bad.
The guy that served our meals had a LOT of dirt under his fingernails - looked a bit feral.
Pinchi Face
These guys do a mean pie! Just had the mexican pie. Omg. Delicious! Defs going back again

Really good pies had here

Spanokopita slice was pretty nice. Coffees ok. Great value

The only reason I power through their terrible coffee (espresso drinker) is because they do a good cheap egg and bacon role.
