Review Korchi City - Melbourne

Vicky Nguyen
best jjajjangmyeon in town! always on the top of my list on a cheat day or when i need something filling 😌 love the black bean sauce here since it doesn’t have that really strong (herbal) taste (idk how to describe it but the chunjang sauce here is mild and very much my taste 🥰 their tang su yuk (sweet & sour pork) is so good, the flour coat is thick JUST enough not to be soggy by the sauce, but not to be too thick that you get sick of it. and the best thing about Korchi is you can have UNLIMITED kimchi & the yellow radish 😱 the portion is HUGE, def good value for money. If you decide to go for dinner, make sure to make reservation cause they usually have a long queue 😉 Highly recommend this place!! —— 📍Korchi City 🍅4.7/5 💵 ~$17/ per person

We went to Korchi City for a quick early dinner, and it was a great choice. We ordered the bibimbap and zha-jiang myun (noodle with black bean sauce) and both meals were authentic, delicious, generous in portion, and came with a complimentary side of kim chi. Service was friendly and efficient, and we loved the k-pop channel they had on the tv – it completed the experience!

Food portion in here is huge indeed. Yet they seems adding a lot MSG/ salt into the food😅 Feel extreme thirsty after having dinner in here. In conclusion: if you wanna feel bloated&thirsty after having a meal, defo recommended this place.

Good place to grab Korean food in Melbourne, taste not that authentic, but still good enough..

I ordered Tang Su Yuk(large) just now for lunch. It’s supposed to be crispy pork but the order was cold, not crispy and not fresh. Clearly, it had been cooked earlier and reheated. I’ve had this before from this store and it’s usually pretty good but not this time. It wasn’t worth paying $35

Food is good in price and quality. Although the service was just fine, I would love to still go have some tries !! I live the fried rice, because it made me think of “mother’s cooking dishes “ 🥰🥰🥰 I am not from Korea, so I don’t know how exactly like in traditional Korean taste! However, for me ... they are good enough ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ By the way... it’s big dish!!
Ethan
Pretty average foods. They do serve Korean style Chinese food. Not too bad. Worth it to visit from time to time. The way they provide side dish is kinda weird tho.. you have to grab your side dishes by yourself when the staffs are free.

$13.80 for a big bowl of noodles. So yummy.

Insta: melbfoodie_mark
YT: MelbFoodieMark
-
One of the more authentic Korean-style Chinese restaurants in the city - they are known for their Black Bean Noodles, "JjaJangMyeon". The sauce was savoury with a hint of sweetness. You can tell they add a lot of extra ingredients to make it extra flavourful!

Absolutely love Korchi City. They do delicious authentic Korean food and is very popular among Koreans. We had the jajangmyeon and the tteokbokki, both of which were huge portion sizes and very affordable too. Both dishes were delicious, especially the jajangmyeon which is probably some of the best (and one of the few places that do it) in Melbourne! Although the venue is quite cramped, it’s definitely worth a try.

a place that I’ve been taken to that has two things that I’ve always wanted to eat!!

first impression: a small store hidden in little Bourke street that plays k-pop (yay) and a great crowd of diners. Looks like this is the joint everyone’s been going to lately.

food: went here for two specific dishes so we got those.

jajangmyeon (black bean noodles): serving size was great for 2. Flavourful and honestly the best one I’ve eaten! The craves for this has finally been settled. I like how pickled radish (how it should be) was also served on the side! Then two compliment each other so well.

tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork): I’ve seen so many kpop idols say this is one of their favourite dishes to eat and I start craving it when I see them eat it. It’s rare for korean restaurants to serve this and since they only do sharing sizes and not for one servings it does become more expensive. The crispyness of the batter in the pork was absolutely perfect and was it tender once bitten. The sauce was made well and I just kept eating it. I was one happy gal!

Service: staff are very welcoming, made sure we were seated asap and provided menu upon seating. It was a quick order as we knew what to have! We asked for extra utensils (scissors) and they were happy to provide one and sharing bowls, staff was very well mannered.

Overall, Korchi is a great place to go to with friends and family. The dishes they offer are really good and I’d recommend people to come and try this restaurant. It is chinese korean but mostly focused on the korean side of food. If you’re a k-pop fan, dine her and enjoy the music they play on the screen 👍🏼

The service was friendly and quick. The tteokboki was cooked well and so was the japchae. However, the meat in the japchae was tough and unenjoyable. My partner said that the seafood pancake was bland and didn't like it.

There was a 15 minute wait but that was fine. It was the busiest time of the evening and it shows how’s good the food is in this place. There were working class and families plus a few table of students. The place is moderately priced but the food is very tasty. We got the bibimbap very quickly but the noodles took extra time. It is a great place for a quick meal.

Rating 4.5 / 5

This place was chosen by our dearest friend who knows how much we love exploring places and food.

To begin with we wanted to try Korean Alcohol and not aware of the basics, we ordered 3 bottles of Jinro Soju. To our utter embarrassment, we were told by the attendant as well as the owners that this isn't a diluted version of Alcohol. We all had a hearty laugh and chose to go with one bottle of Strawberry. What a way to celebrate Ozzy's Belated Birthday by our beloved friend Mahi ....Korchi city serves one of the best Korean finger food as well as Noodles in the city.

While we toasted to our friendship and Ozzy's Happiness we also orders our main courses.

Ggan Pung Jee (Chicken), Gagan Sho Sae Woo(Prawn) and Pork Bulgogi.

Bulgogi was definitely the Dish of the Day. It was so flavorful and yummy.

Second best was the Prawn which was another level of good food.

After all those flavorful plates, Chicken dish was a bit underwhelming. Had we gone for the chicken first, we could be sure of enjoying it more.

Attendants are very friendly and happy people.

Vegans might not have much option to choose from but there's no harm trying.

Sochu here is a must.

Definitely returning. 😊
Brian Kim
All dishes pictured tasted great - 탕수육 was actually crispy unlike most places and 짜장면 had enough bean flavouring (compared to some blander options in the suburbs). As usual, side dishes are welcomed :) Servings sizes are also very generous here. Good value place in the city for a decent night out.

Only let-down is probably service time (around 40 minutes for food) - however, the waitresses are extremely friendly and considerate and even gave us complimentary cans of soft drink for the long wait.

Area is nice and vibrant with a good crowd vibe. Tables are averagely sized, and the place’s cleanliness is standard without having a sparkling feel.
Emily
They always deliver! The food is not only authentic, it is also served super quickly despite being lunch rush! Beef hot stone bibimbap is my all time favourite and portions are generous here so bring your friends!

Zhajiangmian is the best one

Got the jajangmyeon and mool mandu. Rather disappointed. Saw many good reviews but the food didn't live up to expectations; the food was rather bland. The nicest tasting food was the side dish of beancurd skin. Will not be back again.
Kheng OMNOM
Honestly had the best jajangmeon and tteobokki here and it was so cheap for the portion size. I wouldn’t be able to finish it so we ordered two to share to try both! Their rice cakes is probably the best ive had! So much flavour and love their side dishes too especially the kimchi. Will definitely be coming back :)

I loved this place before.... but.. something is changed with food.. so sad.... I don't know why... it was really nice..................................
Tracy Zhou
Food is okay, not the best. Strongly suggest don't come at busy lunch time. Your food comes very very slowly, and the service is just so so -- they tend to ignore you during this busy time. The same thing you need to ask for a couple of times. Consider the reasonable price, it's still acceptable.
Jessie Woo
Big portions and came out pretty quick!! Definitely get the jjajangmyeon!! So delicious and great value

this place is okay. the customer service is okay but the food is not the best. they have large portions however it isn’t very pleasant, and doesn’t taste very authentic. it’s a bit sickening when you’ve had it for a while.
Jo Tan
People working there are helpful and friendly. Food is amazing! Zha jiang myun and fried chilli chicken go so well together. Authentic. Big portion and very value for money. Highly recommended.

i had the jjajangmyeon!! so delicious and satisfying! one of the best meals ive eaten! i actually came here cos my friend told me they play a lot of BTS! and they do!! i was in heaven, with the delicious food and music from my fav kpop group playing!!
the service was so nice too!! i definitely want to come back here for more yummy korean and BTS! :D

😱Lizzie’s first impression: there were so many people in here on a Monday night - that’s when I knew they do really good food.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I tried the black bean sauce noodles and the stew with beef. they were both delicious and well cooked. The tables were almost full when I got there on a Monday!

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the place itself is nothing special but the food speaks for itself

🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great Korean restaurant

Discovered this shop by chance. Had vegetarian bibimbap in a hot pot (extra$1.50) but the dish was just slightly warm :(
One of the waitresses was nice enough to get me a tumbler of hot water 👍
Leslie Yapi
Chinese Korean place that is very rare to find in Melbourne.

Jajangmyun is their super super duper best menu.

Also try the
Ggan pung gi (Fried chicken with spicy garlic sauce)
Cheese egg roll
Jjam bbong (Seafood and veggie in spicy food)

Their portions are quite big, so be sure to not over order. However, if you do, do not worry because the take away containers are free of charge!

Went with a group of friends to this Korean-Chinese Restaurant for the farewell dinner. We have ordered The large tang su yuk (which is one of meat - I forgot the name in mandarin), Pork Bulgogi, Hot pot Bimimbab and the Zha-Jiang Myun, overall the taste good (not too oily), also the portion was super big with reasonable price for 5 of us (including 1 children). Will come back next time. 👍
Michi
We hardly get korean Chinese restaurant and hence korchi is always a favourite. Jjajangmyeon is delicious. Other dish that we normally order is tangsuyuk and kampungi. Both paired really well with rice.
JOELLE
3.5
Korean Chinese eats in Melb.

The place is decent in size though can be bit crampy and usually crowded at night. It has a nice chatty ambience which is why it's famous for drinks. Korean songs playing on the background can be a bit loud, as well as the chatter around.

The staffs do their job, they were pretty not very friendly on my previous few visits but my last visit the staffs were nice. I hope they keep up with this service though. Maybe at peak hours you can't expect great service.

Their famous jjajangmyeon is the go-to. I've had them a few times and they have always been consistent. The sauce is generous, and just the right consistency, taste wise, it's got a good balance of sweet and salty. These days there are more meat although they're still tad bit scanty and lotsa onions. The portion though is pretty huge it can feed two, but also because this dish can be too flavourful so it's hard to finish on its own. You also get pickled radish and kimchi which matches the dish really well.

Their ramyeon ddeokbokki is generous as well, spicy but tolerable. There's hard boiled egg and fishcakes. The rice cake itself is chewy but not hard and ramyeon is well cooked too.

Jjambong was pretty yums! The soup wasn't too spicy, seafood and noodle was pretty generous with lots of onions. I like the noodles used here, they have a nice bite and just the right thickness.

Tang su yuk was pretty great too. We had the large size and it was very generous indeed. I asked for the sauce to be separated so they stay crispy. They were nicely fried, not too oily, batter wasn't thick either. The sauce was a balance of sweet and sour and there were some capsicum and peas, and something resembling cucumber filling (?) which was interesting.

Kimchi pajeon (pancake) was pretty good, crispy on the outside but pretty oily. Good flavor, and good sauce too, though was bit salty.

Egg roll were too oily and took too long to cook, flavour was just okay and not that much cheese either.
Steamed egg (Gyeran Jjim) was decent I suppose. It's too salty to eat on its own so a rice is needed to accompany, and the texture is bit dense.

Had the woolmyun (changed noodle to rice for an extra $1?) it was quite good, the portion was good as well, though the oyster was definitely not fresh.

Mango makgeolli was pretty yums but maybe bcs we asked for less ice it was bit too sweet. Also, there was barely alcohol taste lol so we ordered soju.
They have promo for their soju after certain hours ($9.9) which is pretty good, and they open till 2am.

Overall a good place for korean-chinese food as well as booze, pretty good value too but service could definitely use some improvement.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.

I love their teokbeokki ramen.. it tastes so good, and they give a generous portion. I tried the pork cutlet as well, but it just pkay, nothing special. But i will comeback forsure to try others since it looks so good 😊
Split The Bill
Somewhere different for Friday treat lunch as per the other reviews the servings here are humongous!

For $14 per dish they were full of flavour my friend ordered the dishes but my favourites were we the Haemool Pajeon - seafood spring onion pancake, Lamen Topoki - Korean rice cake with fish cake and ramen noodles. Will certainty be back.
Sammy
Korean Chinese at its best! Love the jjajangmyeon and prawn gampunggi. They open till late too perfect for supper time with some tap beer on side.
Highly recommended place.
Sannguyen2001
Our order came out pretty quick and the proportions were huge! The food tasted good too and there was heaps to choose from. I ordered the most popular noodle dish they had and enjoyed it heaps and the price range was suitable too!
Eatwithbonny
My always go to restaurant for jjampong and jjajangmyeon.

Portion is very generous here. I always order gan- jjajangmyeon rather than normal jjajangmyeon. It has deeper flavour because they stir fried the onion, sauce and meat. They use lots of onion to give it more fragrance.

Their jjampong is spicy but refreshing (not sure if you get what I meant but thats how korean people expressed it). Lots of seafood but don’t expect to get fresh seafood.

They also serve several options of soju here. People who loves to drink should visit here. After 7pm, their soju only $9.90.

Will I be back? Yes!!

Vivian
Such generous portions for a great price !!

The delicious black bean noodles are a must . Love the hand made noodles with the best texture ever

Also the Kim chi stew here had so much flavour

We were trying some new places and stumbled upon this korean place that sells korean-chinese dishes.

We ordered their tangsuyuk (sweet & sour pork) and their jajangmyun (black bean noodle). Both which are their most popular dishes. And to be honest both tasted okay but somehow there was no ‘wow’ factor. I personally enjoyed the pork better as the noodle tasted a bit bland to my liking. The flavour of the black bean sauce was not as strong as I would like.

The staff were very nice and tried to cater as many requests as possible to each diners and the wait time for the food was also rather quick. As for the pricing, we suggest to aim for their lunch menu so you can get the same dishes for a better price.
Shin
Black bean noodle was goooood. Craving it as I am typing this review. Tang su yuk (sweet sour pork) was alright but not to my liking. There were a lot of Koreans customers so they must be doing sth right?

Will definitely return to try the jjambbong next time.
Pipi
The proportion of the good was great. Love the spicy rice cake. It was probably one of the best ones I’ve had in Melbourne.❤️ The staff were friendly as well.

Located at little Bourke street , Korean cuisine . The customer service is good, secondly the food tasty and large portion not bad , the price is reasonable . Will come back soon Cheers and thumbs up .

Ordered: Jaengban Zha-jiang (serves 2) $30

The food here is really affordable! Even between two people who hadn’t eaten all day, this dish couldn’t be finished, meaning the portion sizes were great (and luckily they do takeaway)! Staff were friendly and attentive, with a nice, cozy atmosphere that included KPOP performances playing on a giant tv screen. The idea to create a fusion of Korean and Chinese food was something I’d never heard of before, so getting to come here for such a unique experience was great fun. I look forward to coming here again in the future!

Took away a pork bulgolgi lunch set for $10. I generally have a large appetite but the portions were extremely generous - could pack it for lunch tomorrow YUM. They also gave soup and 2 vege sides which was a pleasant surprise. Really think this is a value for money and delicious meal. The restaurant was also jam packed with people, proving that I’m not the only one who loves this place!

Food is nice. Taste so good! Chicken, noodle and other menu they offer has really bigggggggg portion!! I really love it! Its really really nice! Moreover, they have free flow of the kimchi and beansprout!

We came at 12pm there are still plenty of seats available however it was filled up very quickly.. We ordered the Jajangmyun & pork bulgogi lunch box and we also shared a grape soju.. the portion here are quite big & I couldn’t finish the whole big bowl of noodles.. the black sauce match well with the noodle & taste really good.. I love the grape soju too.. price is reasonable for quick lunch.. will definitely come back again to try other dishes on the lunch menu..

Tasty treats in MASSIVE portions, been here twice and still underestimated the size of the food! You will guaranteed to walk out with the seams of your trousers busting open lol. Loved the noodle with dark mince sauce and the chicken. Perfect spot for dinner or late night snack

Came here almost 10 times! To go place for supper or after work meal. Best jjangmyeon that i had so far!😍
Have had,
Tangsuyuk : sauce is nice, big portion and tasty
Jjampong: not too spicy. >seafood get
Minhee
It’s not as good as it is in Korea. The sauce to noodle ratio for 자장면 was off, too much noodle and not enough sauce. But it’s not too awful and it does get really busy too
Big Tummy
The meals are good and they are all in huge size with a reasonable price.

However it takes forever to wait for a takeaway. It took more than half an hour for me and my another colleague to wait for our two jajiangmyun. (There wasn’t many people in the restaurant at that time). When we were politely asking about takeaway, the man there didn’t let us talk and just asked us to wait.
Lily Tang
I’ve been here twice for the rice cakes. It’s pretty good I just wish there was more sauce because it dries really easily and it sucks when ur eating and have to dig to the bottom to where the sauce is. The black bean noodles r pretty good just wish we got the normal ones not the spicy ones coz they were wayyy too spicy.

We’ve been searching for a good place for Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong for ages and I think we have found it! It’s a little out of the way but certainly worth the walk. Servings are huge, so bring your appetite. Another great thing is the price. Really great value for money. The place was full and busy when we visited. You will understand why once you taste the food. We will be back and try other things on the menu. It all looks yummy.

What a terrible experience and waste my money!
I always come to this restaurant to eat Yangjangpi(it’s a traditional Korean -Chinese food) Because it's pretty yummy and reminds of me in Korea. Today, I visited with my friend for a long time and ordered yangjangpi. The taste was completely different from the previous one, I told the owner that you should try this before you sell. However, he made the excuse that there are 3 chefs in the kitchen. So what? That means the taste is different depends on who cook for food? I won't come back here again. If you guys visit here just order Jjajangmyun. Do not try any other food for sure!
Ahh_Blueberry
3.5/5
The food portions at Korchi city are really no joke!! We came in today for lunch, and ordered jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) with Tangsuyuk to share, and all of us were beyond full by the time we were done. The jjajangmyeon was delicious, and it was worth the price ($11) considering how much there was (The picture doesn’t do it justice!!). As for the Tangsuyuk, it’s something nice to have with jjajangmyeon and to share, but I personally wouldn’t have gotten it otherwise ( I couldn’t take a picture because by the time I remembered we were already digging in haha)
I have to say, it did take a while to try and get the waiter’s attention, but it didn’t take away from the fact that we had a really affordable and full meal. Will definitely come back for jjajangmyeon again!
IsaH
Food: Both the jajangmyun and jajangbap were massive in size. I went through the reviews and know that it will be large but boy I was pretty shocked. I was pretty much rolled out of the restaurant after lunch. In terms of flavour, it got depth and was delicious. I highly recommend both. Will come back here to try out other dish.
Update: also tried the sweet and sour pork, a little too sweet to my taste.

Price: It was totally worth it, so cheap for such a huge portion of noodle and sauce.

Service: Luckily I didn't experience any of the harsh/rude service. Staff was quite nice, with prompt service.

Ambience: Very casual, a little stuffy because the tables are a bit cramped together but because the food is good I don't mind it.
Vanessa
**3.5 stars** Best Korean restaurant that sells noodles in black bean sauce (Jjajangmyeon 짜장면). This place is also a hot spot amongst the local Korean people and can get really busy. The portion is more than generous for the price (very affordable). I can’t comment on the service because my friends mostly talked to the staff members in Korean. But the food came out pretty promptly. Though it’s small inside, there’s a nice atmosphere.
Munching With Mel
Rating: 4
Food: 4
Value: 5
Ambience: 4
Service: 3.5
This was a hidden gem popular amongst local koreans in the far parts of the cbd on little lonsdale st. Staff were exceptionally friendly and we were served with only smiles. We ordered the jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) which we heard was good and definitely satisfied us for only $12 for such a huge bowl! We also ordered tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) + ramen, and also seafood hotpot which had a delicious portion of tofu shrimp and clam! We loved each and one of the dishes, even though it was so spicy. I was blown away by the price and the enormous portion. We could not finish half of it between the two of us and had to take away. Letdown was we thought they had a lunch menu but appeared not since i had calculated and thought we’d pay $10 less but food belittles this concern. Will come back with friends!
Elena
Although the food is ok, but one waitress attitude was terrible rude. I just asked her to take plate away, then I heard she said a Korean word “a xi ba”. I don’t speak Korean, but I know what this word means. What a terrible f*cking rude word! I am sure I won’t come here again. If your waiters keep this attitude, no one would come! From now on, behave yourself!
Brent
Wanted to try this for a while. Got a chance to go in a couple of weeks ago and grabbed the take away lunch special. $8 for very generous cup of rice with meat/veg of choice + a can of drink. Great value. I've been 3 times now (chicken every time), every time quick service and really tasty too. would recommend for a quick, convenient lunch. Would love to have a sit down meal there some day soon too.
Melbourne, Let’s Eat
Came here a couple times and loved the food! For the price I didn’t expect the quality and portion size to be great, but it has certainly exceeded my expectations for a casual Korean restaurant. You can’t expect amazing service but will come back for a filling and flavourful meal.
Annisa Prameswari Kesumaningrum
Love the food. Definetely one of the best casual korean restaurant in Melbourne. The taste was so identic like the one in korea.I try the ttoppoki & bibimbap. The ttoppokki was perfect. Not too chewy and not to spicy. They give some japchae inside the ttoppoki. But they only had a little oden inside it.

The ambience quite simple & comfy. But not too spacious. Especially during lunch hour it feel a bit crowded.

The price is so friendly! Its cheaper than any other k-restaurant in the same level.
Will be back for sure! For those who looking for k-food in melboure, this one is worth to try.

It’s hard to find good classic Korean-Chinese food like Jjajangmyun in Melbourne since most restaurants here make just classic Korean but Korchi always hits the spot. You can never go wrong with the Jjajangmyun, Jjambbong, Tansuyuk here, it’s consistently tasty. The staff always look like they’d rather be even dead than working there but, I can’t blame them since they work until 5am and dealing with a lot of drunk and rude customers.
Just stay away from the RaBokki (Ramen+Ddeokbokki), that one was un-eatable for us but everything else is great.
Hoang Trang
Every time when I crave for Spicy Jjampong, I'll always come here for a quick fix. The portion is very large for 1 person so recommend to come and try their dishes when you've got someone accompanying. However, their banchan is cold which I don't like. The Jjampong is very very spicy so it's a challenge for me because I can only tolerate small amounts of spicy.!!

We went to this restaurant twice during our holiday to Melbourne. Both visits, it was busy, we had to wait for a free table on our second visit (approx. 15 minutes).

We didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive. We were so surprised with the size of the dishes. They are huge! One dish could easily serve at least three people. We ordered three dishes for three people and could not finish the third dish.

The food is certainly authentic Korean. There were plenty of Koreans in the restaurant, so it must be the real deal.

The restaurant is located a little further from the central shopping area, but the extra travel is worth it.

Overall, great food for immense value. We hope to visit Korchi City again when we are next in Melbourne.
Decent Feed
Came here on a Wednesday night, and this place was packed! I got the beef bibimbap. Whilst it looked well constructed and vibrant, I found the beef too tough and dry. Condiments and soup were not too bad, but I’ve definitely had a better side of tofu before at other Korean restaurants,
Was quite a large meal for 1 person, so would recommend people to come here on an empty stomach !
Dang.kim25
The food was so yummy. We came back twice in our one week holiday. Portions were big and super duper cheap. The tteokbokki was not too spicy and was full of flavour, it was the best. The jajangmyeon we ordered was also really tasty. Definitely recommend this place.

Amazing foood at such a cheap price! I love this place so much, I went twice during the 6 days I was in Melbourne. Jajangmyun, toppoki, lamen toppoki and the pork cutlets were so good - basically, every main on the menu is good. I recommend getting two dishes between three, because it was very big portions. Also love the mango rice wine, smoothie-like, sweet and really refreshing (ps drink it with the square bowl lol).
M
Found this place at random and went in to try their ‘Jajangmyeon’ which is black bean sauce noodles as I always wanted to try and I’m so happy I found this place! This dish was delicious and very filling as the portion size was HUGE (the bowl was bigger than my head haha). Could’ve definitely served 2 people with 1. The price was only $11! which was very cheap considering the size of the dish and how good it tasted.

The place itself has a feel good quiet environment, good korean music playing in the background and the staff seem friendly and service was fast. Perfect place for lunch/dinner with family/friends.

I recommend this place for anyone wanting to try authentic korean food. I’ll definitely come back to try other dishes in the future!

Korean restaurants in Melbourne, in my opinion, mostly serve delicious lunch and/dinner dishes. But they don't come cheap. This place is one of few Korean restaurants that actually offer a very good bang on your bucks. They serve great tasting dishes in a larger-than-average portion. We had kimchi soup, jajangmyeon, and beef bulgogi in our last visit and we totally enjoyed them, especially the jajangmyeon.
Debby
The reason we come to Korchi is for the jajangmeon and It never fail us. Consistenly yummy! Theres not much korean restaurant in Melbourne that serve jajangmeon. If anyone does crave for this, here is the place!
미안합니다!! I really like the spicy chicken was so good ever and the spicy seafood and vegies noodle soup was great as well. Service was awesome!
Christy Kang
They sell the best Jajangmyun in the whole Melbourne! I always visit them when I'm after a delicious Jajangmyn, or a Jjambbong. I really loved their fried pork (tangsuyuk) too. Haven't had a chance to try their soy milk noodles, but definitely will when summer comes!

Friendly staff. They're quick and accommodating. I am absolutely in love with their spicy seafood noodle soup and black bean noodles. Big servings for a good price as well.

My only issue is that their other dishes can be inconsistent such as the spiciness of their spicy rice cakes.

Chicken stir fry noodle with sweet sauce $10
HUGE serving. Easily two meals.
Simple flavor and typical vegetable mix
Comes with kimchi and miso soup
Great lunch for value

Food tasted nice, good price and portion size but service was average.
Waited 40min for our food and it was hard to get the waiters attention...

Was originally planning to go to another Korean restaurant but took a spontaneous detour - and I'm so glad we did because we found this gem! It was a cold night, perfect for a hot bubbling bowl of kimchi jjigae (stew) with soft tofu, pork and veggies coupled with some side dishes and rice, while my friend got the beef bulgogi. It tasted like everything a hearty kimchi jjigae should be, and decently priced too. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the ambience relaxing. Would visit again! 😊

Been here after my friend's suggestion, the experience was so good! I've always been craving for Korean-Chinese food and this place just delivers everything so well. I love jajjangmyeon here. Staffs are friendly and helpful. I also love the korean drink. Food are delicious and it comes in big portion. Such a cheap place to have a nice lunch in the city. Highly recommended.

Very bad service.... I tried to order multiple time and each time they were not willing to understand simple english. Additionally, I was left shocked when I tried to ring up and order except they did not my simple order and was confused as to who was ordering. I ended up speaking to the boss who ended up hanging up on me. Not recommended at all... as they are quite busy and popular they feel like they can afford to have bad customer service!!

This place is packed for a Friday lunch hour! Ordered the beef and pork bulgogi from their lunch special (Mon-fri 11.30am-2.30pm). It comes with rice, spring rolls, salad and miso soup. The beef bulgogi which was marinated in sweet soy sauce came out sweet but lacking in flavor. The pork bulgogi fare better in terms of flavor. Pork was marinated in spicy soy sauce. The spring rolls and the miso were average. The dressings on the salad was kind of weird so we didn't really finish it. The side dish they gave was generous and nice. It is definitely good value for your money. Would consider coming back to try their other dish.

Had their Zha-jiang-myun and Soon-doo-boo Hotpot. The Zha-jiang-myun was delicious as the noodles were commendable. The noodles were smooth and springy, and combined well with the generous black bean sauce. Moreover, given the price, it was very worth it as the portion served was large. The Soon-doo-boo Hotpot was also decent as the broth was rich in flavours from the seafood and the soft tofu was satisfactory. I may have not tasted many Zha-jiang-myuns in Melbourne, but this it my current favourite!

Ordered:
🥞 Pork Kimchi Jeon: Kimchi based spicy pancake ($12)
🍜 Zha-Jiang myun: pork & vegetable black bean sauce ($11)

Food:
💼 The kimchi pancake was really good! Great batter, fantastic dipping sauce (though it was really bloody spicy if you hit the chilli portion) and lots of vegetables inside. In comparison, black bean noodles were really really plain. It honestly got kind of tiring to eat after a while.
Portion sizes were massive in relation to the cheap price. Great to bring a pack of hungry guys who value quantity > quality.

Service:
Since we were seated right near the door, their attention tended to skip over us during the meal. I ended up bringing empty water containers to them (which I didn't mind) in exchange for new ones.
Considering we were out of the central of CBD, the place was still quite packed around 7.
As such, would definitely recommend booking if you have many people (we placed our booking for 6:30pm for 9 people).

They also had free wifi!!! :D

31 degrees and their a/c was out of order on one of the hot and humid day. Please look after your facilities, the summer is not over yet.

Food: 3/5
Atmosphere: 2/5

Waiters were kind and nice. Food were delicious and prepared in time. Foods remind me memories in Korea. I highly recommend jjajangmyen and jjambbong.

A cheap, decent quality Korean restaurant in the city. It was suggested by a friend due to congestion at much more popular Korean joints in the CBD.

Service is friendly, and food arrived at a good pace (went as a large group of probably 17-18 people). Dishes were pretty standard, and it was an overall good feed apart from the fried chicken, which was messily presented and rather rich. It served as an alternative (perhaps a more Chinese influenced dish) to most other Korean places in the city.

This will still be an option if I ever have cravings for Korean food on a busy night in the city.

Came here on a rainy night and were super hungry.. glad to know they serve generous portion of food! Jjajangmyun was really good but I found their tang su yuk a bit overwhelming. The deep fried pork was a bit too big and hard to cut, we ended up asking for scissors. All in all, would love to come back to try other dishes! 💋

2nd visit: omg their jjampong is the best!!!!!

3rd visit and so on: wool myun!! My ultimate dish!!

Spicy !

If you love spicy food, this is where you should go ?
Well most of the food that we order that day was super spicy even thou the spicy rate was 1 chili. Because we are super hungry, we eat it anyway. But its too spicy for me that i cant really enjoy the food. I could say i dont really eat spicy food.

Well I'm not sure about the opening hour. But on Friday, we came at around 11. And its still open. So maybe you should call first before you come?

Not a fancy place, its good for hangout and eat.

We ordered Zha-jiang-myun (black bean sauce noodle), original boneless fried chicken and half marinated, pork marinated in spicy sauce with vege, and soft tofu stew with seafood.
- Zha-jiang-myun. Not spicy and its okay.
- Original boneless fried chicken. Not spicy and very crispy. Looks like those japanese chicken katsu.
- Marinated boneless fried chicken. The sauce was like a sweet spaghetti sauce. But its good.
- Pork marinated in spicy sauce with vegetables. Spicy as the says in spicy sauce!
- Soft tofu stew with seafood. Expensive and spicy ! The chicken was cheaper than the stew. And the stew is for maybe a person ? Its so small and not much seafood in it. Not recommended.

So maybe if you guys love spicy food, you can enjoy the meal here more than me.
So hope you guys do enjoy your meals here ! Cheers! 🎉😁
I have visited this restaurant twice, the first one was okay but the food were so much better today. Recommend their jjajangmyeon and tang sul yuk (sweet and sour pork). They are a bit spicy but definitely good!!

Decent and very cheap korean option in the legal district.

The zhajiangmyun or the jjambbong are good choices as is the tang su yuk. Portions are very very generous, so come here with an empty stomach.

The bad: the miso was bit plain. Spring rolls were cold
The good: the portions are big, the chicken bulgogi was fresh and hot. The service is always friendly.
Fast service, cheap $9.50 lunch, will be back!

Wow, the servings are massive. The prices on the menu may not seem cheap but for the portion sizes they are pretty good value. Had fried pork cutlets with rice ($15) and there were two fat & thick (battered) pork snitzels waiting to satisfy even the most famished person out there. Also ordered a large fried chicken in soy garlic and a stir fry rice cake (ddeokbokki/topoki) with instant noodles and fish cake. Both of those were also enormous and we weren't able to finish any of the three dishes, therefore we got plastic containers to take them home for supper. Having said the above, the flavours are kind of on the average side and nothing too exciting. It's quite popular though, we went in at 5:30pm and there were already heaps of people there. Maybe the food tastes more home-style therefore the Koreans really enjoy it? Anyway, we will surely be back. It's a good place for group gatherings because the portion sizes are perfect for sharing.

Korchi didn't live up to my expectations. Food was over oily, pancake was too thick. The flavours of the pancake were fine, not great. I would have given a rating of 3.5 for the food, though the service was really average. Ordered a bottle of soju as we were seated, didn't come. Ordered another bottle as we ordered perhaps twenty minutes later. Other tables were seated and they were served before us. We ask for a third time and seemingly put out the staff by doing so. Wasn't huuuugely busy. The guy that appeared to be the owner was very friendly though. I wouldn't go back on a weekend, but perhaps I would on a weeknight to see if the service and food was better when there is less going on.

I noticed that a lot reviews on this place are around it being a basic lunch venue. It's Not. It becomes an awesome late night Korean dining joint. It may have been after one too many bevvies, or that it was my second dinner venue but Korchi is an awesome, fully adultered food porn venue. I am rarely defeated by a meal.. but this place has done just that. It's non descript, tucked away and the venue is basic. But omg, the food here is next level. It's Bourdain level Korean cuisine debauchery. Admittedly this was a second dinner after countless drinks but that didn't stop us ordering (Notorious BIG) heavvvyy.
The cheese chicken. Wow. It was more cheese with a side of chicken with gooey madness going everywhere. The fried chicken and vegetable / capcisum thick sauce (tang su yuk) was average, though the experience of pouring that stuff in is hypnotic. I get why they would serve how it was which pushed it up a notch. The piece de resistance was the army stew (budae jjigae), I've seen it before but this was the first time I've tried it. It is so bad and yet so good. Baked beans , spam, cold meats, sausuages, kimchi base, cheese, pack of noodles. It's everything you probably shouldn't eat into a dish but it was awesome. I can't rate this enough. Sure the decor is plain jane and service ok, but the food at this place is ridicolous.
Jajjang and jampong! Favourite menu here in korean chinese restaurant! The portion is generous and the staff are very friendly! But the deep fried pork is a bit disappointing.

Happiness in a bowl. Affordable lunch in the city. The zhajiangmien (dry meat sauce noodle) is delicious. Very saucy, perfect in taste.
Korchi's seafood pancake is really good too, great texture in batter and seafood is fresh.
