In Melbourne and craving some hotpot and with 3.8k reviews and 4.8 stars, I thought we can't go wrong, but I'm honestly not sure why it's so highly rated.
It's not bad, but I think it's far from a 5 star. The meat quality and selection is not that great. Also, at that price, I expect fresh house-made meat balls, not something out of a packet.
Most importantly, the soup was not good. We got the chicken and fish maw and tomato and ox tail. Maybe some people will like this but I really did think it was way too salty and oily. They did have big chunks of the ingredients in the soup though, which was pretty quality (chunks of ox tail, fish maw, chicken etc)
For sides, we got the pigs ear, brown sugar rice cake and braised ribs. All of them were so-so only, the ribs were particularly disappointing, dry and flavourless. Sauce options were limited, the house canned sesame oil was only 20% sesame oil.
Seating and decor was unique and comfy though and presentation of the food was really nice.

I was very wowed during my dining experience at David's Hot Pot. The quality of the food was amazing.
We had the set menu which offered a huge range of food, I particularly loved the wagyu roll and seafood. The homemade noodles were beautiful in texture and the soup broth was also very good. Everything was fresh and delicious.
I liked the decor, felt very authentic. Thanks for the invite, we loved it!

Been wanting to try out David’s hotpot since I moved to Melbourne finally managed to go on the weekend.
We ordered hotpot with 2 flavours.
You got the option of 4 different spice levels when choosing the spicy hotpot and we went for level 2 but got served level 1 as per receipt. I love eating spicy food but I think their scales need adjustment as it would be pretty spicy for average eaters. The mushroom flavoured pork hotpot was super nice! Service was friendly and knowledgeable. I liked that this place is one of the few places with a good table size and enough room between tables and other customers. Portion size on the other hand could have been a little bigger for the amount of money you pay.

I like the decorations inside. We tried the normal beef tallow base and tonkatsu base. The base soup was really nice. We ate the nine dishes set as well. I didn't really like those. But I think if you like multiple options, then you could try. There are different sauce you can choose but charge $2per person. Totally, it's little expensive for us. But still recommended for someone who likes spicy hot pot.

Delicious hot pot. The spicy stock was super spicy. Good selection of meat, seafood, vegetables and condiments to add to your soup. Reasonable prices. Friendly and fast service. Simple decor but I think the seats could have cushions for comfort.

I probably had very high expectations considering how hyped up this place was. It was decent but the menu and sauce bar was quite limited. The soup bases were not bad. The staff was very friendly and helpful compared to other hotpot places. 🙂

The food was not only the good part about this restaurant but also the experience. Selecting the ingredients which you would like to eat was a fun and easy way to customise the meal to your tastes. If you have not been there before ask for some assistance so you know exactly what you need to do. When choosing your ingredients consider that the price is based on the weight of your pot which holds the ingredients you are choosing. When selecting your soup base be in mind that even the mild soup is quite spicy and if you cannot handle spice this restaurant is not for you.

We had lunch at David hotpot for my birthday. It was amazing! The food presented very high quality! The soup base was very tasty! The service was so good. Very nice and friendly staff! I even had a free ‘ meat birthday cake’ for my birthday. Very very special! I definitely recommend this restaurant. It is one of the best hotpot in the city!

From the moment we entered we have received amazing hospitality and service. Sun in particular has been helpful since arrival as we had a bit of trouble choosing some good ingredients from the menu, he was very patient and helpful and let us take our time as well as suggested some good things to eat! The ambience in the facility is amazing as well, it really takes me back to my recent travels through Asia. They really put a lot of effort into the presentation of the food as well everything looked so appealing and delicious. The food and service the whole time has been amazing as well the atmosphere. Sun has really good customer service and I definitely recommend coming back!!!!! Sun is awesome :)

千层肚，鸭血，牛肉，虾滑都很新鲜，蔬菜品类也很多，口感也很好，上菜很快，店里面消好毒卫生很好，人不多可以慢慢吃，服务生小哥哥很nice。辣锅不是很辣，吃着很舒服。端午节和好朋友一起来这家店美滋滋，和别的火锅店相比味道真的好很多，来过很多次的火锅店了，好评！在墨尔本每当想吃火锅时都会第一个想到大味，味道依旧是熟悉的味道，有亲切的感觉，填饱了内心对祖国的思念！会一如既往坚持支持大味！

If you have been Melbourne for the first time, I undoubtedly recommend you to try the traditional Chinese hot pot. It must be the David’s Hot pot. The taste of David’s is real nice. I guess the chef must be the professional one from China. The meat, vegetable are fresh, the snacks are so yummy as well. As the matter of fact, this is the real nice place for friends reunion. The spicy soup can be divided into several degrees which you can choose by yourself. Also, another soup has the taste of tomato, mushroom, etc. More importantly, you can combine them. Oh , it is amazing.

The initial service here wasn't great, booked a table for 7 and ended up waiting till 7.20 to actually get the table. We were then told we had to leave by 8.30 and were pretty much ushered out at 8.30pm on the dot which wasn't great. The food itself was tasty and fresh, the broths were filled with flavour so no complaints there, definitely a plus. For 5 people it cost us $270 with 4 drinks. A shame that they want to hurry people through so quickly which makes it hard to enjoy.

We went to David’s Hot Pot for dinner. Loved the large selections and variety of meat, noodles, sauces and soups they had on offer although vegetable options were rather limited in comparison. The dishes we ordered were all so fresh and the ‘medium’ level spicy soup was already very spicy for me. Overall, I loved the authentic Sichuan flavours and service was very fast and efficient.

We walked out full, spending around ~$65pp.<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/> 🥘 Signature half half spicy soup base (less spicy) & mushroom base ($36.00)<br/>🥬 Bok Choi ($6.80)<br/>🍄 Enoki Mushroom ($8.80)<br/>🍞 Frozen Tofu ($6.80)<br/>🐑 Lamb roll ($12.80)<br/>🦐 Prawn mince with fish roe ($17.80)<br/>🐮 Premium wagyu roll ($24.80)<br/><br/>Review:<br/>Good solid food with plenty of good bopping options - and the spicy soup base is SPICY. Even though we chose the option that says "less spicy", best believe your tongue is going to be quivering. Thankfully I had the classic plum juice on the side to help my head and flavour muscle cool down.<br/><br/>My favorite topping for hotpot these days is the prawn mince. It cooks well, floats to the top when it's done and juicy to bite in to. Slowly it has become my hotpot staple!<br/> Service is fast, and quick. Cook and eat to your own pace as per the standard in hotpot restaurants! P.S. There's also a surcharge on card payments.

This was our first hot pot experience. Absolutely loved the atmosphere, the smells, sounds and vibe of the place. The flavours were outstanding. Really recommend the half/half hot pot with the tomato base and spicy base (good to have the best of both worlds). Our server James was soooooo helpful and kind and answered our endless questions. Also loved the beer game (pay $5 and try to grab as many from the bucket as you can!). <br/><br/>The only thing I would say that lets this place down slightly is that for the price, the portion sizes for some of the added ingredients should be bigger as it is for at least 2 people. Further, having tongs or some type of utensil to better manage your cooking would go a long way as you can struggle sometimes to get things out or outright lose some of the food! Other than this though, it is absolutely worth your time to check out this place and enjoy the experience. Thanks!!

We came on a weekday night without booking, luckily the restaurant was quite empty so we didn't have to wait at all. The ingredients were fresh and in overall good quality, however the place was a bit pricey compared to other hot pot places in the city. It's delicious but not competitive enough for us to return.
