Review Sal's Authentic New York Pizza - Melbourne

N Ş
The pizza is perfect. The dough is chewy and perfectly baked. The crust is nice and thin, a quality I love on pizzas. The toppings are fresh. My favourite and go-to right now is the classic Manhattan pizza which consists of pepperoni and mushroom. The sauce is great too. I rate the pizza 5/5. I’ve tried the garlic knots, they’re edible and okay tasting but I wouldn’t buy it nor do I recommend it so I’d say it’s a 1/5. (No photo attached) The pepperoni swirls (photo attached) are like little pizza scrolls. I rate them a 4/5 as I’m surprised by the great taste fitted in these mini pastries. Unfortunately the bottom was burnt and I had the burnt taste in my mouth which is something that could be easily fixed. The store is unfortunately too small but it does add a sense of coziness so I don’t mind. The only problem is it’s not ventilated as it should be for a pizza bakery and especially during winter when the front door is closed the smoke gets trapped in. I recommend one additional staff whose only role is cleaning the tables and floors, as there are 3 guys I see at all times who bake and take the orders but usually are too busy to tend to the dine in area. Sal’s Pizza offers wholehearted and unforgettable pizza dishes, and will always be a personal favourite filled with good memories and happy tummies. Follow me in my journey as I try to become one of the best food reviewers of Melbourne ❤️ Thank you.

For all those pizza lovers out there this is your place! We actually loved it so much we came back the next day! We only tried the pepperoni but that in itself was enough to hit the spot. The crust was perfect (I don’t like it too thick) and the sauce was very flavoursome, plus a great amount of cheese and pepperoni. Very reasonably priced too. Would highly recommend to friends and family!

Got there on Saturday night at 8:30pm and it was busy but we were able to get a table. The staff were friendly and all smiles. We got a pepperoni and garlic knots. LOVED the garlic knots with Sal's legendary sauce. I could have had another serving of it. The pepperoni pizza was HUGE. There is something about the pizza base that made it taste great. After adding parmesan and oregano flakes, the topping worked for me. Definitely will come back for the garlic knots and Sal's legendary sauce!

Oh my goodness! I finally got a chance to try Sal's Pizza and I was so happy and impressed! It's so tasty, the Sal's Famous combo was a great foot in the door, a slice of Cheese and Pepperoni, both were super delicious. If you get a chance, or next time you're in Melbourne, hit up a Sal's Pizza, go by yourself or with friends, they cater for both, and it's close to Flinders station so a great location too

The best pizza ever! Period. It’s a very small pizza joint which has been inspired by a New York pizza joint. Not a great dine experience but their Nonna pizza is the best as it can get. Get a takeaway and enjoy your movie night. They even have single slices for smaller appetites. My friends ordered the chicken wings which they absolutely disliked.

Great New York style pizza at a reasonable price. Had the combo deal with 2 slices, 2 knots and a drink for $15. Tried the Staten Island and Manhattan and they’re both great. The knots are decent as a side. Expect to spend around $10-15 for a meal here.

Great New York style pizza for reasonable price. Sal's legendary sauce goes well with garlic knots. Keep in mind that the restaurant does not accept card, but you can order online using card and it'll usually be ready for pickup within 15 minutes (even if the estimated pickup time says it could be longer).

Authentic? Sure. Great NYC style pizza. Ordered 4 flavours across 2 pizzas. It was huge. Buffalo chicken 10/10. Dough was plump and thin, slightly charred. Topped with lovely tart sauce and generous toppings. On the pricier side, but I guess you’re paying for the brand as well

The best cheese pizza I’ve ever had, every bite was a little piece of heaven

⁣The pizza at @salspizzaaus was honestly one of the best pizza I've ever had in my life. I don't know if we were just hungry but it was sooo good. We gave it a 4 because by the time we ate it, it was cold (we consumed it 30 mins after purchase but imagine what it'll taste like if we ate it straight from the oven 🤤) I ordered the classic 'sausage'. The garlic knot was pretty good too. I'm definitely going back!! ⠀
Food: 4/5⠀⠀
Service: 3.8/5⠀⠀
Ambience: 3/5⠀⠀

I cannot stop thinking about the buffalo wings we had. Extremely fresh, made to order with a delicious sauce that has just the perfect amount of spice. Definitely recommend the wings and will definitely be back to try the garlic knots too!

A super large and fresh pizza. The 18 inch pizza can easily fill 3 hungry individuals! A New Yorkey vibe

Went here a few days ago, nonetheless, a great place. Got the $15 combo that consisted of 2 pizza slices, 2 knots (basically twisted bread, sauce and can of drink. Honestly I thought that this wouldn’t give me much because the slices looked small but oh no, they are bout 3x the size of a value range dominos pizza slice, and the knots were decently sized. The pizza was already cooked for easy access (cause cooking a whole pizza for one person is ludicrous) and they popped it into the oven. I didn’t expect much, as I didn’t read any reviews but this pizza was gorgeous, I ordered the classic pepperoni which the slice was perfectly thin, had a great crispness and the pepperoni oils on top made it superb. The pizza base sauce was a huge highlight, had great flavour, not too sweet, acidic and overall was a great slice of pizza. Also the crust was a joy to eat. He other slice I had was the (forgot the Italian name) mozzarella slices with tomatoes and basil on top as well as a cheesy base. This too was a banger, same as before, great crust, great flavour. Surprisingly had fresh tomatoes on top which I’ve seen is unusual but it is fantastic, perfectly soft. Overall great pizza again. The pizza bread knots were “interesting”, because I think the point of this was to just eat this and the sauce, the knots were awesome as well, nice and soft and the crust on the bottom was awesome. I ordered the spicy buffalo sauce which is definitely for spice lovers, and the sauce proportions are huge, considering these small balls basically had to be drenched in sauce. I found that the sauce was too spicy and had half the sauce carton full, and I had a good a mount of sauce on top. The drinks collection was standard as well as some unusual brands of drinks there, probably something American but I stick with my lemon-lime sprite can. Had a great meal and the price is reasonable as it was “city” prices.

First time trying Sal’s and I’m hooked. New York pizza is their name, and delicious pizza is their game. The slices are massive, and the pizza is wonderfully cripes, light and fluffy. Beautiful flavours too, and you get to choose a dipping sauce to go with your pizza. The garlic knots are the next best thing since sliced bread, and are incredibly yummy and addictive. Definitely can’t wait to go back for more!

Absolutely authentic NYC pizza. Would stand up with any you’ll find in New York. There must be thousands of places around the world that claim “authentic New York pizza.” I’ve tried quite a few out of my hometown Big Apple and NEVER found one worthy — except for Sal’s! Plenty of fine pizza in Melbourne, but none better than Sal’s.

I've never been to NY to try their pizza, but if it's anything close to what Sal's served up then I'll book my ticket right now! But seriously, great food and great service! Only wished they had another one down the road from my house!

The lunch deals here are amazing! Best pizza in the city by far! Cheesy garlic rolls - you can't go wrong! Definitely fell in love with the pepperoni pizza

Great pizza and were more than happy to add mushroom and black olive to the pepperoni pizza to make my ultimate-super-favourite pizza. And the wings were outstanding. Smothered in classic Buffalo sauce, delicious ranch, celery on the side. Just real proper wings. Last one was still crispy. No soggy wings here, just deliciousness.

Awesome pizza, love the sauce. The edges could be a bit smaller but overall a great pizza experience, will definitely be back. The garlic knots... I can pass the garlic taste was not really there as mine were a bit charred.

Came here with some mates for a quick feed after seeing it everywhere online. The buffalo wings were hectic!!! And the buffalo pizza and cheese pizza half half combination was wicked. Just real good pizza. Glad we finally have a NY slice in Melbourne.
DamoForce Food
Great range of options to enjoy along with some tasty wings as well. Top quality and would return

Wings Bra! That is all you need to know. Get the wings and thank me later. The best in Melbourne!

What a cool place - reminded me of being in New York. The dough on these pizzas needs to be tasted to be believed because it's fantastic.

Typical NY style thin crust that and a nice variety of toppings available. The pepperoni was top notch, the hot salami had a nice kick to it and there was a great amount of cheese.

Love that you can buy single slices or full size pizzas, I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the CBD.

My son took me to this newly opened NYC Style Pizza joint in a tiny lane of Melbourne's CBD area and all the walking effort was well worth with a great taste of NYC style sliced pizza. We had the Pepperoni Slice and it was cooked in near perfect NYC style. Must try once to form your own opinion.

Came to Sals after the big hype of being the same as New York pizza. Well...yes they have nailed it. The pizza was absolutely delicious, fresh and flavoursome.

The staff were amazing and super friendly. They recommended dipping sauce with the pizza. I chose the ranch sauce and blue cheese and it didn't disappoint.

The buffalo wings and garlic knots were however the stand out to me. It's a must try!

PS. Be careful biting into the pizza it's hot!
@foodtom
NY Pizza in the heart of Melbourne, came by for a quick slice to eat and was certainly delighted at how tasty it was. Although the standout for us was the Buffalo wings, they simply melted in your mouth.

Great Pizza tastes just like I had in NY. So happy to finally have something like this in Melbourne!

I was looking for a Pizza in the CBD and after seeing my mates constantly post about Sal's on their Instagram, I knew that was my spot to hit up! You can order by the slice or the whole. This classic NY style pizza is as authentic as it comes, it reminds me of my holiday a few years back and NY is one of my favourite places. It is great to have a pizza available in Melbourne on this level! Also, the wings are amazing!
Jelly9449
Fantastic pepperoni pizza and the guys were super friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back for the other pizza!

It really is authentic NY pizza! It reminds me so much of back home and my family and I frequent the place. The sweetness of the sauce with the saltiness from the crust and the cheese is just right. And I love how they have garlic knots. How I missed them! Can’t get to NY? Then check out Sal’s!

Authentic New York pizza! Great tasting pizza! Delicious and cheesy! Definitely worth the visit. The wings were extremely impressive and also the garlic knots are delicious and also a must try! If your ever craving New York style pizza then you must give Sal's a try!

Sal's Pizza has a pretty basic operation and most people will come in for pizza by the slice. They've got various combos (we all went for the Little Neck combo) where you get a little bit of everything. The pizza selections are decent, after making your choice it is briefly heated up and served.

I started off with the knots, doughy and chewy and tastes similar to garlic bread. You also get a choice of sauce to accompany it, I got their chunky blue cheese which was quite mild considering how potent blue cheese can get.

For pizza slices I got their standard cheese pie and their pepperoni with jalapenos which had a bit of a kick to it. The slices were not sloppy nor overly oily and maintained it's shape quite well.

I wouldn't say it's the best NY slice I've ever had (not that I've had many) but it makes for a convenient quick feed if you're on the go. Seating is limited.

A New York pizzaria with diner store interior.

Just light the States, authentic slow rising dough is used. The pizza has the crispiest base and crust and remains crispy throughout the journey of eating the big pizza slice. Pepperoni slices and oozy oily cheese are used for toppings.

This is by the far best pizza i've had in Melbourne.
We walked past Sal's Pizza daily and always wanted to try it and it didn't disappoint. NY style pizza that is piping hot and delicious. Thin crust which I love. We ordered the pepperoni and added extra meatballs and jalapenos as toppings for $5 extra. They could be a bit more generous with the meat balls as a topping. Half a pizza with the $5 toppings put the bill to $25. This is pricey but the pizza was the closest to a NYC pizza that you can get in Melbourne. Pizza is twice the size that we are used to. One slice is the equivalent of 2 slices of an Italian size pizza. Will return again as it was so darn good!

We headed all the way from Bendigo for these pizzas after my bodybuilding competition. Was not disappointed, other than by my lack of appetite and inability to finish more than 4 slices.

The Buffalo was an absolute 10/10, cannot top it and the Pepperoni on the same level. These two were by FAR the best and absolutely amazing.

The Nonna was also great, as were the others although those two were just too good to pass. The mozzerella sticks were great and the garlic knots with some blue cheese dipping sauce wow.

Do recommend. You need to try this place and order a whole pie - you likely won’t finish it but it’s even better heated in the oven the next day at home.

Really good pizza in this little shop on Flinders lane.

I wouldn't say it tastes exactly like NY style pizza but then again I think NY style pizza is over rates so that is a good thing.

Easily Melbourne's best NY style slice! Thin and crispy with that authentic NY flavour. If you're in the city and want to grab a quick bite, you can't go wrong with Sal's.
Quince And Cheese
I've finally found New York-style pizza that rivals what I'd eat back in the States. Sal's may be a kiwi invention, but it was started by an Italian American who knows what he's doing. If you're up for a carbo load or pie by the slice, this is the place to go. I tried the new Nonna (basically a Margherita with parmesan) and the Vegetarian. Both were heavily sauced and cheesed and bready, making them more filling options that the standard Melbourne Italian pizza. The garlic knots were good but a bit too bland for my liking. The mozarella sticks, however, were perfect. If you're looking for something to counteract the effects of all that wheat and dairy, Sal's also sells kombucha.

Quintessential NY style pizza. I have been on the hunt for sometime now for a good NY style pizza in Australia. Safe to say the hunt is over.
Large crunchy and chewy slice of pizza with a perfect balance of cheese to sauce ratio. Decor is super casual like a family owned Italian pizza slice shop.

Would recommend 100% and I will be visiting this place often.

Seriously delicious Pizzas and true to the NYC big slices I remember. I had Sausage and Nonna...Also highly rated the Pepperoni Wheel and Buffalo wings which are that classic spicy Buffalo sauce that you get in the states!
Clove
In my opinion the best pizza (of any kind) in Melbs. Hands down the best NY pizza, but for me beats wood-fired or any other way they're cooked. Ingredients are imported to match the exact specs. used in NYC's best pizza parlours. Being from NY and growing up on it this is the real deal - sweet delicious tomato sauce and premium mozz. Having lived abroad for many years now, I can't tell you how happy this makes me. Large cheese pizza or capsicum (peppers) and sausage is a home run. Don't sleep on the buffalo wings, un-real. So good it's here...
Whalesfoodadventure
Very friendly service. 15 min wait for the pizza and then suggested to wait 3-4 mins after it being served. Theres extra parmesan on the table to sprinkle on top. Got the vegetarian pizza and half sausage pizza. Love how much cheese there is. So tasty. Highly recommend this place
Hungry Koala
Very true to the New York style pizza. We got the NYC sampler which came with pepperoni wheel, garlic knot, a slice of New York pizza and a soft drink. My new place to go when craving New York pizza

My partner introduced this restaurant to me. My partner is pizza lovers. So, obviously I need to try this highly recommended pizza.
This pizza is originally from New York. To be honest, I don’t have much knowledge about pizza. My partner ordered half cheese and half brooklyn pizza. The pizza size is massive. We had it in the store so it tasted even better because it was freshly out from the oven.
