Review Waterfront Grill Southgate Melbourne - Melbourne

I had a really lovely experience here! They were very busy, but the staff were professional, got us a table with no booking and attentive without being pushy. The food, while pricey, is absolutely delicious. The entrees were a real highlight!! The pork belly was incredible as was the sushi. For mains, the steak was cooked perfectly, the salmon delicious. No room for dessert but they all looked amazing. Great wine list, beautiful location and delicious food made for a delightful evening!

We came to this fantastic restaurant yesterday night and the experience was super duper. The food was not only delicious but also looked amazing. I also had the best service ever from Anna. Shes really nice and helpful. ❤️ Cant wait to go back. ❤️

So I came here after receiving a voucher for my birthday. My first impressions was it seemed over priced and a tourist restaurant in the heart of south bank. I walked away impressed but now sure if I will return quickly as it does feel like a little tourist trap as the prices were a little over the top. The T-bone special was good and they pear salad was actually yum. I have to say the waiter was very good

We celebrated our daughter’s 21st birthday last night & loved every minute of our experience at Waterfront Southgate. Our waitress Anna was so friendly, welcoming & attentive the whole night. All our meals were superb from the presentation, quality & divine flavours. To finish our evening we enjoyed a couple of the special desserts & our daughter’s was brought to her with a lovely message & candle which she loved! 10/10 for everything & a big thank you for the best evening out.

I am giving this 5 stars but I want to give it more. My wife and I had an excellent dinner of entree oysters, salmon, barra (mains) and sorbet trio (shared dessert) The service was exceptional. With drinks the cost was around $80pp. It was worth every cent. For a special event or simply if you enjoy quality choose Waterfront

Food was well presented and the mains were tasty. Bay bugs were a little watery and underwhelming for the price. Our table was also a little cramped and perhaps the service could have been slightly more attentive.

The Waterfront is an outstanding restaurant. Very friendly and professional staff, service was prompt and excellent, the food is fresh and tasty. I would highly recommend this restaurant If you are looking for a lovely meal with a great atmosphere and great views.

Love the food! Very tasty and well-presented. Great location along Southgate close to NGV, Arts Centre and Botanical Gardens.

The dessert plating amazes me the most.<br/>The salmon, the steak, mussels, prawns, oysters are all fresh and yummy. Have to admit the pricing is on the expensive side.

The staff are really efficient. They could probably do with more but the waiter we had was dealing with about 8 busy demanding tables and he managed very well. Hats Off! The food was very nicely cooked and the whole barramundi in the lime and chilli was excellent.

I really liked this place, the atmosphere was very cosy and home-like which made my partner and I feel comfortable. The food pricing was reasonable and the food was amazingly good!

The restaurant itself had a nice ambient. But food was very mediocre, nothing special. Seafood was not fresh and food took forever to come out. Waited 35 minutes for entrees to come and followed by mains 20 minutes later. <br/><br/>Sadly service was honestly disappointing considering how much we paid. Floor manager wasn’t very clear and told us that he had a “full house” but still got one of his staff to sit us down. When we sat down, the waitress gave us the drinks menu and walked off without even saying anything. After 10-15 minutes she comes back with the food menu and gave me a dirty look bc I didn’t “move” for her so she could place down the menu bc I didn’t see that she was there. 15 minutes later my friend and I decided what we wanted to eat so we were looking around for someone to take our order but staff weren’t very attentive. The waitress who gave me a dirty look was setting up a new table and made eye contact with me twice but did not come over to take our order but continue to set up the table. After 5 minutes she finally comes and ask us if we’re ready to order with an really bad attitude as if we haven’t been trying to get her attention ? At this point I was ready to walk out but it was pretty late and we were hungry. My friend and I ordered a lot of seafood dishes which included shell fish ect. She did not give us a bowl to put the shells in until I asked. Not once did any staff check up on us to see if everything was okay or even ask us if we wanted another drink. When we finished our food we asked for the bill and she bought us the bill but did not come back to finalise the payment. So we got another staff to come over and he bought us the eftpos machine. He didn’t ask if everything was okay but all he said was “receipt?” Trying to rush us out. <br/><br/>I’m sorry but I paid $300 to get really bad service and mediocre food. I would be pretty forgiving if staff was nice and food wasn’t that great. Overall , please fix your staffs attitude because customers should be your number 1 priority. Never coming back again and would not recommend.

A spectacular experience is an apt description for our first visit to this outlet. Situated along the beautiful Southbank of Melbourne with seating available in and outdoors. Friday nights are popular so best to make a reservation in advance. Service of an exemplary standard. Nice touch to serve small individual portions of seafood chowder together with the ‘bread basket’ at the start of the meal. The menu focuses mainly on seafood and related dishes but the meat options on offer are well worth considering. Our party had the Tasmanian Salmon, Salmon Wellington, Seafood Linguine and Scotch fillet as main courses. Portion sizes larger than normal with no extra side dishes required. All meals were of an exceptional quality.

The food was okay but way overpriced for what you get, but I guess that's to be expected from most fancy restaurants in the Southgate complex. It was just disappointing that the service did not correspond with the prices on the menu, and some of the seafood was not as fresh as we'd have liked. This was particularly evident in the mussels and prawns in the paella. Also, $11 for a tiny plate of plain mashed potatoes... all I can say is wow. The ambience is lovely especially at the al fresco area when the weather is nice.
Therelaxedtraveller
A great restaurant for a beautiful night out in Melbourne! I had the steak which was nicely charred to my liking and awesome ambience! Loved the gesture of the small complimentary seafood chowder as well! The Staff were very friendly as well! Prices however could be better..!

Disappointing. Came for my birthday dinner and left with a lot to desire. Ordered the tempura soft shell crab, Deluxe Platter, Roma tomato salad and thick cut chips. Only two of these dishes actually came. The tempura crab was good. The deluxe platter had good crab, mussels, pipis, prawns and calamari, though none of it was particularly outstanding for the price. The grilled fish and bay bugs were overcooked and somewhat chewy, rendering the taste unsatisfactory. The sides as mentioned did not come, such was the standard of the service.<br/><br/>In this instance, even though the sides had been forgotten, we were told it was simply "too late" for the mistake to be corrected. Not a particularly gratifying response. Further to this unsatisfying service were more gaffes of this type, and though small, were undesirable for the type of restaurant this is and the price tag that comes along with it. These gaffes included not providing crab forks for not one but two dishes in which it was included. The serving of beverages was not regular for this class of restaurant, with drinks being placed in front of the incorrect diner when it was clear where they should be placed, and then the drinks weren't poured into the provided glasses with ice. After the meal was finished, the waiter simply didn't wipe the table or clear the plates until obviously prompted, and when finally doing so, did it over the course of 5 minutes returning twice when normally it would have been done in one go. <br/><br/>For the high cost of the dinner and the restaurant being in the higher-end eating category, these service blunders were quite poor. Likewise, the amount paid was certainly disproportionate to the quality of the seafood served.<br/><br/>Next time if I'm interested in finer dining for seafood, I might try the Atlantic, though it might seem both of these restaurants are the same in their incongruence of price to value, and indeed cheaper places like Clay Pots might be more enjoyable and with similar food quality without the premium.
Sisi Love Food & Wine
had work gathering here, I could try seafood platter which is over the top, crab was so fresh and so many variety too, I loved steak, I had scotch fillet medium, steak was very juicy , I liked steak more than fish, I have been this place in the past and tried fish here, fish was fresh however I think myself more like meat lover. <br/>Ambiance was nice and sophisticated table service was good which match the price we paid
Dumba
Good service and great food. Ceviche is fresh and the rest of the seafood is tasty. Seating areas are well sheltered and the location is handy.
Maryke Fry
Wow! This place is amazing and the food was fantastic. The oysters Kilpatrick are amazing! We also had some seafood chowder and breads with olive oil and balsamic. Omg what a treat it was!!! I had the Morton bay bug risotto and I must say it was cooked to perfection. My hubby had the steak and mashed potato. It is by far the best mash potato seriously!!! Our waitress was so adorable very friendly and looked after us. She made sure we had enough chilli and tobasco on the table. With such good food and fantastic service, we will definitely be back without a doubt!!!
Crabapples For Lunch
We used to come here occasionally a few years back when they had a selection of whole fish grilled with lemon and caper butter, but at one point they stopped serving that, which was a real shame.<br/><br/>We came back again the other night and our waitress was cheeky and pleasant, but I was quite shocked at their current prices. A whole 600g grilled flounder was now charged at $60 when it used to cost something in the $30s. Same with the steaks and other mains. The food was decent, but at these prices I can't help but feel ripped off. Only fine dining restaurants a cut above the norm like Dinner by Heston Blumenthal could justify such a pricing because of the entire experience, and I don't think Waterfront delivers that. If these were at the old prices of $30-40, in line with many other fine dining restaurants, I would be quite happy. But at these prices I can't really recommend it.
Melbourne Food Girl
Our family love this place, kinda like my 9 year old chubby self loved stuffing my face full of cake. It's okay, I've come to terms with those life changing school photos you can never escape from. What has changed is my love for seafood, up until I was in my early twenties, I'd never ventured far with sea creatures and yet now I'm at that stage where if i order a dozen oysters, that's for me only, get your own buddy. I know my fellow sea creature lovers get me, I have support out there, sharing is not always caring, sorry not when it comes to seafood. It's everyone for themselves, ya know? I've diverged haven't I? The review is coming, oh wait its here! This restaurant has been the annual family christmas lunch destination for the past two years and I think that streak is only going to continue. We love the food, the service and mostly the atmosphere, sitting outside watching the world pass you by with Melbourne city and the yarra river as a back drop. It really doesn't compare to many other restaurant experiences, one of those you need to try it in order to understand the sheer experience of it all. So you see what I'm getting at is, you need to this place. <br/>P.s. there's plenty of food for all my "not ready yet" seafood opposers, they'll take care of you.<br/><br/>+ Food, Service, Atmosphere and Views<br/>- Minor increase in wait time (very popular)

Meal: Dinner<br/><br/>Ordered: Red Wine, Snapper and Steaks <br/><br/>Having eyes Waterfront Southgate for a while, we finally got around to trying this place and were left very satisfied! After the initial confusion of our booking, we were finally seated at our table by the lovely staff. We ordered the snapper and steaks and they were yummy! The snapper was a work of art and we almost felt guilty eating into it! The selection of red wine was great too. All in all, a must try place if you are ever in the Southbank region!

Lovely decor, polite wait staff, terrific menu, good coffee. And the food was really nice-so all adds up to a wonderful dining experience! I had the tuna ceviche for entree and the whole red curry snapper- couldn’t fit in dessert but I had a mouthful of the raspberry pavlova which of course was to die for.
Good Food Good Mood
I caught up with a friend here tonight who was craving champagne and oysters and was not disappointed. I was personally a little disappointed with the frostiness of our server, particularly given what we were paying. There was a bit of snobbishness there which was quite uncalled for.<br/><br/>Not being an oyster eater I opted for something from the raw bar on her recommendation, the salmon and avocado sushi. It was fresh fish as was to be expected but quite expensive for what it was. I also had a lychee cocktail which was okay.<br/><br/>My main was the steak with red wine jus although the incorrect sauce was brought out (peppercorn) but swiftly changed when I flagged it. The steak was well cooked and flavoursome, the sauce was nothing special ($3.50) but I enjoyed the sides we added. For $10 the side of mash was not overly generous but it was lovely and smooth. I also really adored the oyster sauce on the broccolini and it was the first time the greens were a star on the plate for me. <br/><br/>We finished up with dessert, raspberry pavlova and chocolate fondant with the fondant being my favourite. This is pretty much my ultimate dessert and this rendition was no exception. Gooey decadent deliciousness. <br/><br/>Original review<br/>It’s hard for me to review this positively as I had the garlic prawns and it absolutely did not agree with me. Taste wise it was very good but I’m not convinced it was fresh given it made me feel so unwell. It’s definitely turned me off a return visit which is such a shame as I loved the atmosphere (we were inside, but the outdoor seating looks great too post it’s recent renovation) and the seafood on ice gave it a great ambiance. Its definitely not cheap and that coupled with the fact that its a friend of mines go to restaurant for special occasions and I was really looking forward to it made my experience even more disappointing

Was here for my birthday dinner. Everything was great from the beginning. The staff is very trained here to provide really good customer service and the food was great as well. They also have the best Molten Lava Cake here. Beautiful ambiance, great food and a great experience overall.

<br/>This place really took me by surprise! I’ve always wanted to try @waterfront_southgate however sometimes I don’t trust the restaurants in Southbank dude to the high tourist attraction which can cause a lack in quality and and expensive cost. I was very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant firstly the selection of what you could order was phenomenal and we went in at about 5:30pm on a Friday night and didn’t book and they managed to squeeze us in! The service was extremely quick and everyone who was in the restaurant was moving efficiently but also with ease which made it a very relaxed environment. The restaurant was very busy however it wasn’t overly noisy and the staff were super attentive and helpful. All the courses we had were delicious and cooked to perfection! The stand out dish was definitely the dessert I’ve never ever walked away from a restaurant feeling this satisfied! It was definitely the best dessert I’ve had in a very long time. I have been to various restaurants that specialise in desserts that have never reached the @waterfront_southgate dessert! I was blown away!! Very happy with experience and will return! <br/>Pictures:<br/>Raspberry Meringue <br/>Seafood Linguine with Queensland prawns, mussels, calamari, clams, local fish, olive oil, garlic, chilli, tomato, parsley, zucchini <br/>OYSTER BAR // Freshly shucked Pacific <br/><br/><br/><br/>

I went here at least once a year, the food is amazing and fresh. Of course staffs are caring and friendly. The price is worth paying. High recommended place:)

Our usual go to place for the friends to get together. We always get the large sushi platter to share, sometimes two because it’s so good, and then the eye fillet steak each with multiple sides, plus the drinks and desserts. Every time we come here, it gets better and better each time and never disappoints. The bill is always pricey, approx $150 per person, but for 3 courses and drinks, I’d say that’s totally worth it and can’t wait to come back again. Definitely a favourite.

I was having a bottle of sweet wine here and enjoyed my cute oysters. The place was quite comfy to enjoy the sunset surrounded with the beautiful view .

Went here on the weekend and ordered the marinere muscle pot. Enjoyable and decent pricing $30! My partner ordered the steak. He advised me that the steak was pretty average given the price on it. You’re better off going to Meat wine and Co or Squires loft for steak instead. Nevertheless, I would come back and try other dishes however I always go for the muscles!! - this is my 4th visit.

Went to dinner on a Monday night. The oysters were small and not fresh. Flavour was lacking in the seafood linguine. Baby crab found inside the mussels, which were undercooked. This was a similar case with the porterhouse steak. If you want a nice night out at a fancy restaurant, avoid this place, there are many more amazing places which will cost you a lot less. Very underwhelming and disappointing.
Sophiecoulton_222
Melt in your mouth eye fillet, even though it is a seafood restaurant they do know how to cook a good steak! They serve fresh, quality ingredients with minimum wait time no matter how busy they are. I’ve never had a complaint, after all these years even after their move from Crown/Southbank they have always been consistent!

The evening team here who took care of my friends and I, from the host to our stationed waitress, they were all very hospitable. It was very pleasant and, made the whole fancy dining-out experience worth it. I made a booking and arrived 15 mins early which the host appreciated since kitchen closes at 9:30pm on a Wednesday night. We were seated outside - as requested at time of booking - with a view of the night scenery. 😌<br/><br/>This place is very grand both in service and interior setting. We ordered the Chilled Seafood Tasting Platter with a side of Chunky Thick Cut Chips with Aioli. Everything tasted; well, fine and delicately-soothing to the palate. My only wish is that there was more to this particular platter in quantity but we all knew what it would be like proportion and amount wise. My favourite on this dish was the oysters, scallops and crab. <br/><br/>If you are like me, who likes their seafood with an abundance of on their plate go elsewhere but if you want to experience the night-time Melbourne scenery, fine dining service and spend it well in good company. Give this place a go. 👌🏽

No booking and got a table straght away. A knowledgeable waiter with very quick service. Food cooked to perfection and well presented. Great flavours through the dishes and they coped so well even through they were so busy

Foods were ok but bad services. Inattentive and unfriendly staffs. Not worth of money. When we order foods, we asked for recommendations and the wait staffs just said everything is good here and end the conversation. When she came to refill the water, she filled the glass half full and stoped after she realize it was a extra glass (I expected she will take it away). I mentioned it was my friend and my husband birthday, only one dessert with candle came and they have to share for photo which was a bit embarrassing. Staff kept my baby pram somewhere when we were seated and didn't return to us at the end until I asked (after we paid the bill and waited for another 10 min). Overall, very disappointed

@Waterfront Southgate<br/>Our local seafood restaurant. Nothing better than sitting looking over the Yarra at Flinders St station and the city.<br/>The Morton bay bugs with garlic butter are the best, I like the seafood chowder and the pasta! <br/>Again, my partner loves a steak so that’s what he had!<br/>Great restaurant, lovely staff, excellent seafood!

There are two reasons Waterfront has been busy on the two occasions we've eaten there: exceptional service and excellent food. Menu caters for a wide variety of tastes. Staff are friendly, pleasant and attentive where it counts. Food: Even without the delicious sides, there is enough on the plates to satisfy. We loved the crunchy hot chunky chips and side salad- plenty on plates to share between two. Steaks were perfectly cooked to order and very enjoyable to eat. The good service kept us there for coffee and dessert - we enjoyed cute little affogatos with a delicious lemon parfait- good serve.<br/>Wine: good choices with options of 150ml or 250 ml by the glass. Nice idea. I tried the Trout Valley Pinot Gris (Tyrell's). It was a very nice drop! <br/>We will certainly eat at Waterfront on our next excursion into Southbank and on tonight's dining experience, I can recommend this restaurant.

It has an amazing ambience and is overlooking the river which is great. The sashimi and oysters for starters were fresh and tasty. I wasn’t impressed with the lobster though. At $195 for half a tail you expect it to be impressive. It disappointed... Generally nice dishes overall they’re not the best I have had and definitely not worth the prices they charge for them.

I love the the view and ambience of this place and had a European feel in it.<br/>I ordered a green Thai curry with mussels it was decent size and absolutely delicious and fresh.<br/>I will recommend this place for a date.Shaun Mitchell <br/><br/>

Kids meals the beef a little bit hard. oysters and fish were fresh.specially the oysters were taste good.service were very good.the steam barramundi almost two mouth then finished for 40 dollars, could be better.
Gary Blair
Very pleasant. Service good and the seafood linguine good vfm and top drawer. Says it all when it was the only place busy on the front last night!.
FoodforThought
Quite a fancy lookin' seafood restaurant with a bit of a European feel. The oysters were really fresh and they seem to go better without the vinaigrette. It's funny we had to ask for more lemon because there was only a tiny piece of lemon on the plate for 6 oysters. I had the kingfish accompanied with mussels for the main. It was good but the amount of cauliflower on the dish was really pathetic. And the dish was missing some carbs? Was obviously left not feeling very satisfied.<br/>Nice place but it needs more attention to detail. <br/>

Had a wonderful meal to celebrate a birthday. The service staff were impeccable; friendly and helpful. The food itself was tasty and well presented. We were sitting in a booth and had a great vista of both inside and outside. The seafood was great and popular with many of the guests. The dessert was divine. It is a little expensive but I would go back again.

Searching for lunch by the river, Waterfronts elegant display of wine and meats drew us into a very glamorous dining room! We opted for the weekday lunch-special (3 courses + a glass of wine) for $49. Great value!!<br/><br/>Our waiter seemed professional, however scoffed when chose 3-courses over 2... Odd... Maybe because we're in our mid-twenties? Anyhow, we felt a bit judged!!<br/><br/>Onto the food! For entree the Sardines were tasty and the Salmon Terrine (with watercress and apple salad) was lovely, however needed more acidity - I borrowed my partners lemon 😉. <br/><br/>For main the Hapuka was the highlight! It was accompanied by a mushroom purée, burnt butter sauce and lovely charred onions YUM :). Lastly for dessert, the Assiette of Lemons individual components were nice, but taken as one bite left an odd bi-carb aftertaste that i wasn't too fond of.... Maybe go for the Sticky-Date instead :)<br/><br/>Overall, the interior and view of the river are absolutely gorgeous! If that's your thing it's worth giving this place a go. If you're particular with food, try the $39/$49 lunch-special and maybe spend the big bucks at another restaurant on Southbank 💵💵

Great service and entertaining friendly staff. <br/>Good coffee. Lovely view and ambience. The sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce was finger licking good !!

What a great find. I remember eating in this restaurant in its old South Bank location. Seafood platter really lovely and the service was fantastic a big gold star to our waiter Palo.

Came here on a Sunday night for dinner with the family, and we all had a fabulous night! The vibe here is great, the staff are attentive, and the food is superb! First came the starters - bread and seafood chowder. Then came our orders. We ordered a seafood linguine, paella, 2 steak fillets, oyster tasting plate, fried whole fish, octopus salad, and a grilled mulloway. Would definitely recommend the mulloway and the linguine! The seafood tasted very fresh. For dessert, we had affogato, lemon macaroon, and a chocolate fondant. Overall a very pleasant meal, but the only things I disliked were the time it took for the food to come (we had to wait a long time) and of course, the food was a bit pricey, but that's expected at a restaurant like this.
Lauren
Lovely birthday dinner here last month <br/>I had the seafood linguine which was amazing and mojito and lychee cocktail. Entree was fresh oysters.. yum! The waiter was very friendly and helpful

Managed to get an outside table with a great view of the city. We started with Coffin Bay oysters which were sensational, then I had a Scotch steak which was perfectly cooked over wood coals giving a fantastic flavour, my wife ordered the Tina which was a little overdone for medium but still very good. Great meal.
Michelle Khor
The calamari 5/5, it was really fresh and just enough sauce but it took super long to arrive as they forgotten our table and had to remind them. <br/><br/>The salmon 3/5. It blended well with the pea risotto but the salmon had so many bones in it.<br/><br/>The steak was good but it had a little too much black pepper. The creamy mash potato was good too. <br/><br/>The view is 4/5<br/>The staff's service 4/5
Gavin Gusling
Excellent mix of fresh seafood, good pasta and prime steak. Wide range of wines by the bottle or glass and great service. Good view over the Yarra and a relaxing experience and great atmosphere.

Straight up the only good thing about this place is their oysters and some of their wait staff that aren't stuck up arrogant people. We had a booking which got cancelled due to a misunderstanding, the restaurant even acknowledged that I had called and there were notes to say please do not cancel my booking. Didn't do anything to really rectify the issue and had straight up told us no way we're getting a table that night. The hostess then asked if we wanted to grab a drink at the bar but when i asked if there were seats, she replied 'I don't know'. Amazing, the staff don't know if there are seats at the bar but have suggested I go there to get a drink? <br/>No free drinks on the house either.<br/>Terrible attitude all the way till we eventually got seated as a table was just leaving- lucky us.<br/>Mediocre food, crabs were mushy and the platters are definitely not worth it. Once again the only enjoyable thing was the oysters. I won't be back.<br/>
Venesa Ellis
Really underwhelming for what we were expecting to be a great seafood restaurant. Food was not brilliant for the price tag but the service was great.
Sam
Grilled and seafood are quite popular here. sauce is delicious. <br/>dessert was not too bad.<br/>good location and good atmosphere.<br/>Preferably take seats outside and enjoy the view along the yarra river.<br/>
? Freaky Frog ?
Ate here on Christmas Day as part of a large 14-person family booking. We were seated at 2:00pm, however it took 15 minutes before menus were given out, and a further 45 minutes before the wait staff returned to take our orders. Food was pricey, but having heard good things about the restaurant, we thought it was worth it.<br/><br/>We were wrong.<br/><br/>After placing our order we were brought complementary bread, however there was only enough for one slice per person. Despite being a scorching hot day, the water they served was room temperature, and we had to constantly ask for ice to be brought to the table so we could cool our drinks. <br/><br/>Classified as a main, yellow fin tuna meal was a rip off at $39, as it was nothing more than a glorified entree. Partner had to share my seafood linguine in order to feel satisfied. There was a member of our group who had an allergy to cheese, and so selected the seafood linguine from the menu because there was no cheese specified in the description. However, one bite revealed an strong taste of cheese, and as such, the dish was inedible. Another dish had to be sent back because it tasted as if it had been cooked on a dirty grill. When the manger was brought aware of the situation, rather than be cordial and professional, he got defensive and tried to tell us that we were wrong and the food was perfect. He refused to accept any criticisms. <br/><br/>Wait staff seemed to make a mission out of avoiding eye contact, and didn't seem to have a full understanding of the food they were serving. <br/><br/>At the end of the meal I ordered a "strong cappuccino" and instead I was brought a cappuccino with skinny milk, despite the fact the waitress read my order back to me and it was correct. <br/><br/>There's better places to spend your money at a seafood bar along Southbank. I'd recommend the Atlantic over this tourist trap any day.<br/><br/>

Ate here on Christmas Day after a long flight. Food was exceptional, I got the sesame crusted tuna which was exactly what I felt like, it was light and full of flavor. I also had a delicious raspberry pavlova for desert. Service was excellent on such a busy day,

Beautiful! We had a wonderful meal in the welcoming environment of the waterside. Everyone in my party loved their meal, but I especially recommend the red curry snapper. <br/><br/>A great time for beer lovers and fish food fanatics.

Beautiful food & great service at this posh restaurant. The pan seared salmon comes with mashed green peas and topped with a scallop. The grilled mulloway fillet with King prawn served with tumeric and chilli sauce was delectable to my taste. Entree of dragon sushi roll was fresh & lovely. We finished off with coffee and desserts consisting of passion fruit cheesecake, sticky date pudding and lemon curd macaroons. Price $44 for seafood dishes. Quite pricey but fantastic feast. Love it!👍

It's a lovely restaurant. Nice location. Nice view. Nice decoration. I guess if you're looking for seafood this restaurant it's for you. We were looking for "amazing Australian meat" so we were not really impressed by the quality of the food(the mashed potato was really good though!). The way we were served, the good wines, the amazing desserts (awwwww the chocolate one. I'm telling you. Divine!) make this restaurant in my opinion a 3.5-4.0. <br/><br/>I would probably go again but for some seafood instead.
Gary Wright
If an over-priced and over-cooked steak is what you are looking for then Waterfront Southbank is the placed to go.<br/><br/>Dined here prior to a show at the Arts Centre and the steak, instead of being cooked medium was basically cook to well.<br/><br/>A complaint to the waiter was met with a total lack of interest. What he should have done is apologised immediately and had a new steak cooked.<br/><br/>Very disappointing but as I have said if you do not care that your steak is overcooked then head to Waterfront.
Melissa
If you're a massive seafood lover like myself this places is heaven for starters we ordered oysters along with a main sized sushi platter.for main we got lobster with garlic butter and to top it off for dessert we had affogatto yummy

Came here for a work Christmas function. Beautiful views of the Yarra and nice rustic décor. We were a bit squashed so I felt a sorry for the waiters, however they managed pretty well considering. For starters, my colleague and I shared the salt and pepper calamari and roma tomatoes with mozzarella. Couldn't fault, both were delicious! Mains; we had the mushroom linguine which was a large serving however found it quite bland. Also got the beef which was cooked medium (didn't bother me however, would've been nice to have been asked how we wanted it cooked). Dessert was the sticky date pudding and passionfruit cheesecake. Overall, it was a fun night and the food was good, but not great. However, I would still like to come back to try something off the standard menu.

Despite my skepticism of this building/area being a complete tourist trap I was pleasantly surprised with Waterfront. We recently came here with some visiting American friends for a birthday dinner. They were keen to try some local seafood and we managed to get an outdoor table with an amazing view of the city to boot, so they were very impressed.<br/><br/>The service was amazing without being stuffy and the food was sensational. With a few different dishes at our table no-one was disappointed. If you mix your own "surf and turf" with a steak and Moreton Bay Bug you'll be a happy camper.<br/><br/>It's not the cheapest place but the meals are certainly worth it and location and view wise you can't go wrong.

Went here for a business lunch on a weekday. There was plenty of space. It take a while before they came and take our order. I had a salad nicoise which was delicious with beautiful grilled tuna. However, it was $25 and not really enough for lunch. I think all the food was good and I can understand how  you pay for the location and for beautifully grilled salmon, but maybe there could have been some nice bread with the salad.

Wonderful place for steak and seafood. Our steak was cooked perfectly medium with lovely pink in the middle and the mushroom sauce was the best I had ever tasted.

Fantastic. Seafood heaven. <br/>Great wait staff. Lovely selection of meals. <br/>Our waiter catered for a seafood platter with extra's to start off with in the group we were with. <br/>Ordered delicious mains.. and our glasses were never empty. <br/>Made for a lovely evening celebrating my mum's birthday with family.

For a large dining eatery it is what you would expect, staff are attentive food is ok great place to watch the world go buy. Being in south bank it caters to the tourists but that's ok, we went on Tuesday night with a group of friends and it was good. Not sure how it would be on a busy Friday or Saturday night

It's exactly as you'd expect, walking past the venue. Quality food and great service. My friend and I came here on a Wednesday night and had one of the specials (can't remember what it was), but was executed perfectly. Also had a salad to share, a cocktail each and some wine. Only complaint was that our drinks took quite a while and we had to remind our waitress (not that we minded waiting-we just saw the bartenders not making any drinks so we assumed our order has gotten lost) and we were also probably not checked up on as often as we could have (but in saying that, we could always find someone to grab their attention). Overall positive experience. Will return!

I've been here a few times and never been disappointed..the food is delicious and the service is always good.. It's not that overpriced compared to other restaurants there

Food and service awesome well worth the effort to walk over here. The food was fresh. The tuna was slightly over cooked so was dry but apart from that awesome.

Order a seafood Linguine, taste okay but the seafood quality doesn't worth the price. My friend order a porterhouse, ask for medium rare but come up as rare.

Been here a couple of times now and has been consistent throughout. Seafood is very fresh across all the dishes which contained it and the lamb chops are nicely cooked, juicy and tender. The white wine mussels or the seafood marinara are my two personal favourites but you can't really go wrong with any of their menu options

Only went in for dessert and was won over by the pavlova and cheesecake being on the menu! Staff were lovely and attentive but my goodness the quality of these desserts were outstanding. We will definitely have to try the dinner menu next time.

Wow. What an improvement. My family visited the waterfront today and i think they have got a quality sushi chef, finally! It was 1st visit in last 2years and surprisingly the seafood platter was absolutely amazing. The texture and temperature of their sashimi was perfect!<br/>And the flour staff was attentive.<br/>All up, ill recommend this place to those who love seafood.

An absolutely beautiful restaurant full of charm. The lighting makes the place feel cosy, despite it being large. The staff were very friendly, professional and willing to give suggestions and nothing seemed too difficult. <br/><br/>I ordered the chicken and my partner ordered a steak. The waitress double checked with the chef to ensure my meal was dairy free and explained the alternative sides I could order. Our food was incredible. We were also provided with a complimentary bread plate after ordering, which was a nice touch. <br/>They also had a wonderful looking dessert menu and my partner ordered the sticky date, since I didn't want dessert the waitress offered alternate suggestions in a non-pushy way. I ended up ordering a coffee and it arrived to the table quickly. <br/>I would definitely recommend this place!

Was a guest at a business dinner for 12 people recently and it was OK . I have eaten here before and it was not as high a standard of service that I experienced on my last visit <br/><br/>The food is fresh and different and the pricing for the quality of meal is around were it should be . The entree of Tempura Prawns & Soft Shell crab was good and the blue eye was very nice .<br/><br/>Large groups in any restaurant is always difficult from a service point of view , but they did themselves no favours by having 2 large groups right next to each other . It made it difficult to get meals to the table and meant that the service was a little slow .... In particular drinks . The noise levels created by 2 large tables was uncomfortable for us and I am sure the other diners . A lesson here that they should have large groups separated to different parts of the restaurant .<br/><br/>All in all well worth a try ...... But go in a small group !!!

If you're a massive seafood lover like myself - This place is heaven! For starters, we ordered oysters along with a main sized assorted sushi platter. And for main we shared half a lobster with garlic butter. To top it off we shared a desert: affogato with espresso coffee and ice cream. Everything was delicious and mouth watering. The service was top notch and the scenery/location was beautiful. Thank you Waterfront for a delightful date night.

I have tried their California Roll and King Prawn. And both of them are very delicious.<br/><br/>Coming from Hong Kong, I think most of us would find California roll too ordinary and boring. However, this is not the case in this restaurant. The taste of vinegar in the rice are well balanced with the saltiness of the deep fried soft shell crab. I would say this is the best California roll i have ever tried. <br/><br/>For the King Prawn, they gave us two options, cooked and chilled. I chose the cooked one as i was going there with my grandma. The cooked king prawn is nice as well. Stirred fried with garlic paste, the king prawn smells really good and the prawn is very fresh. I really like these two dishes.<br/><br/>One problem is that the server in this restaurant is rather unattentive, like I have to raise my hand for several mins before a waiter would come over and pour water for me. The same apply for the case of getting a bill.

I have visited here for over three times.<br/><br/>The environment and food are nice. I really like the California roll. It is crispy and well-marinated.<br/><br/>However, the service here is slow. The waiters and waitress always keep talking with each other. <br/><br/>If you go there, you need to be prepared that you will wait for over 15mins to have the bill.

Beautiful view and delicious food! I like wine here very much~ services and dishes are exquisite, u can enjoy some performance……anyway, want to come next time

Do: the eye fillet or rib eye, or the whole New Zealand flounder. <br/><br/>Don't: skip dessert. Sticky date and chocolate fondant were great. Not too sweet. <br/><br/>Tip: park at the Tan and walk over. A bit of a walk but it's nice, has a great view, can people watch and most importantly, free.

Sublime seafood and service !Lunched at Waterfront 15th February. Could not fault the friendly yet knowledgeable efficient staff, the beautifully presented and flavoursome food, especially oysters natural, Blue Eye and Barramundi ! Go there and enjoy. Great value for money! I'll be back!!

We had seafood platter..  I love the oyster serve in cold.. but.. not the rest of the seafood.. was too cold for me.. but, still taste good with the sauce that they provided. Love the atmosphere.. and the service also great..

Sparking moscato was flat.. We were charged for a full bottle of sparkling water but only received two glasses. The bottle was kept by the waiter. $125 for half a small crayfish was outrageous. Other food was ok and the parfait was on a plate rather than in a glass as anticipated. But was very nice.

Average food for a hefty price!!!!!<br/>Extremely disappointing. The food was average at best. The fish lacked flavour and the steaks were undercooked. We don't mind paying a hefty price tag, but they need to pull their game up. We've had pub meals with more flavour. The atmosphere was nice but we would never return.

We went on Saturday night and had a really nice meal for dinner. We had the Seafood Paella for 2 which was very tasty and then for desert the chocolate fondant which was just perfect. The service was good...just a very enjoyable experience.

We had a fantastic lunch today. Beautiful fresh oysters, large king prawns, nicely cooked snapper, sushi and sashimi main and desert. No complaints here, food and service great. Thank you!

Very disappointed with our meals here on new years day. Used to be regular customers of waterfront port Melbourne and was expect in the same quality but was very disappointed after ordering a seafood platter that was horrible. Not fresh at all. Definably not worth what we paid. Won't be going back.

Could not find a fault for this restaurant.<br/>The hot seafood platter was amazing with all the best quality food. Staff was welcoming and completely accommodating. <br/>Whilst eating, the view to the Yarra river is beautiful with a relaxed atmosphere <br/>Will definitely go here again.

We have eaten here twice. Food is pretty good but the size is pretty small. I had Morton Bay bug rissotto. Nice flavour but could hardly find the meat, May be three small pieces. Whole fish is dip fried. Big problem we had was with customer service. Waiters constantly making mistakes with no apology offered. Our entree arrived with main and the guy didn't care and when we pointed out he still left the dishes on the table and returned to kitchen. Some people who ordered large size main for 2 didn't get main plate and had to eat in entree plates. Coffee arrived long after dessert was served and more.

Absolutely love their lunch special.. Value for money, excellent service and ambience.. Delicious seafood chowder and lunch menu. Restaurant is great for business lunch or romantic date..

Crowded restaurant, we were seated in between a couple of other tables and the bar. Felt a little bit too close for comfort. The waitress however was very friendly and attentive, great service and the food came out extremely fast! We ordered and received our entree within 5-10mins and then received our mains only 5-10 after finishing our entrees, quickest service I've ever had. For the entree, my partner order the calamari and I, the soft shell crab and tempura prawns. Both dishes were great. For the main my partner ordered the whole snapper which was lovely however very boney (to be expected). I ordered the moreton bag bug risotto which was really creamy which I was happy with. We also ordered a bottle of the presecco which was only because the glasses of wine were all about $10 each or more compared to the $40 bottle. We had finished our meal and then proceeded to attempt to finish the bottle for another half hour so as to not waste money! Overall I would visit this restaurant again as I was impressed by the speed, lovely service and great food.

On a sunny afternoon eating the fresh catch was just wonderful. It is my second time here but the 1st time was a moonlit night this time it is worm and beautiful day so once again enjoyed every bit of it ...

We had a fantastic dinner here. We got in early before the crowds at about 6.30pm. It was still very busy at this time though. The man that greeted us was very good at his job at organizing the tables and very friendly. <br/><br/>The food was delicious. The three of us had the red curry snapper and a seafood paella for two. Both were amazing. The service was fantastic and waitress was wonderful. Our food came out extremely fast also.<br/><br/>Would highly recommend :)<br/><br/>Thank you for a wonderful meal

Surprisingly good seafood. It's a truth usually borne out that the better the view the worse the food. With such a warm night on a long weekend, it was going to be a challenge to find an outdoor table. After a few rejections along Southbank, we found ourselves here, with a smart maitre d' who fit us in between bookings rather than leave a table vacant for 90mins. We were lucky to find a place with really good food as well. <br/><br/>My friend and l shared a very good (main size) sushi and sashimi platter ($36) that was tasty and fresh, accompanied by lots of wasabi and ginger as well as daikon and seaweed salad. My seared salmon was well prepared - juicy and moist with crispy skin although the pea and fennel risotto that came with it was a touch salty even for my savoury tastes ($39) My friend's grilled cod in turmeric ($43 - a replacement for the usual kingfish) was equally good and delicious. With four glasses of French champagne, the bill came to $215 before tip, on the steep side but appropriate for the special occasion and lack of other outdoor options. Service was swift which is what we needed, being between two performances, and international - a mix of accents l always enjoy. I'd be happy to come back here for a more leisurely meal (noting we had our own time limits and weren't rushed by the restaurant), and reassuring to know that you can have a good meal and view in one.<br/><br/>

My rating is for the location not the food. Really average considering the hefty price tag. In the old days, this would have been thriving. But now Melbournians can do better for a whole lot less coin. I imagine the chefs need to up the ante if they are going to stay around. Such a pity.

Restaurant is situated at a nice location in Southgate, over looking the Yarra river. It had a nice and calm atmosphere to it. I must say it's a busy restaurant. We had a team lunch here and ordered dishes from their express lunch menu. The food was ok, Nice seafood but it didn't really wow me. Although I really enjoyed the dessert a lot. The parfait was amazing and the elements that it had it go so well together like the lemon curd and honeycomb as well as the cookies and cream like dollop on the base was so yummy.

Had the barramundi in master broth with dumplings... Yum yum yum! Very delicious.. Table of 12 of us last night and there were no complaints at all!

This place has really improved. Have a some great steaks here lately and also the seafood platter is a real winner. Yu won't be able to finish it. Steaks are properly aged and handled very well. Alaskan king crab legs.... Yummmmmm. Not cheap but fine dining with nice atmosphere. Professional service and overall enjoyable.

Food was excellent but they brought my entree (oysters) with my main ( steak ) at the same time silly error that lets them down bad training bad management <br/>Won't see me again

Had dinner which included the Chowder special and then followed with Rib Eye steak. Both of these were excellent and service very professional <br/>Great venue with good views over the river to Melbourne skyline

Had the $35 express lunch here and it was great. Had the salmon and to be honest it was one of the better salmon entrees I've had in a long time, generous, fresh, well seasoned and flavoursome. Followed up with a Pie main, which was delicious as well. Technically I wouldn't classify it a Pie though as it didnt have the pastry and crust I imagined, more like a potato bake seafood, so do take note. Definitely order seafood here as it does deliver. The area they need improvement is the time it takes for the mains to come, as it was definitely a substantial amount wait. (it was not packed). Wouldn't call it the " express " lunch. This was the second time we encountered this as well.

Lovely restaurant with a great view. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. A special mention to the calamari dish, which tasted amazing. The service was also top notch.

Came here for lunch one day and ordered the lunch special. Great place to sit down outside and enjoy the water view. Seafood is fresh and they have a good wine selection.
